Its no secret that Tumblr doesn't give a damn about its user base. It's been made abundantly clear to me that not only do they not care. Tumblr is allowing posts with direct links to nazi propaganda and chatroom sites to be blazed!

The only reason I found this post? Because Tumblr put it in front of my face on my dashboard.

In the notes of this post there were dozens of reblogs with things like "is this an ARG?" "Oh whats this, save for later". One comment that said "tempting".

This is a neo nazi trying to recruit you.

If you want to know how I figured out what this was in more detail, I'll put it under a read more so that everyone can be a little safer and a little smarter out there.

I kept scrolling. Most are youtube links posted with 0 notes or interaction. This is another link to the same site here.

If you scroll far enough, you'll see they've reblogged an original post.

If you directly copy and paste this text into google, you'll find exactly one result. A PDF in Bulgarian hosted on a website named aobg.org.

Its the official website for the Bulgarian Society of Anthroposophy. A 'new age spiritual movement based on German idealism'. A cult.

As soon as I made the connection, I knew that clicking the original link would lead me to something similar. I felt confident enough to click it safely (DO NOT TRY AT HOME), and was launched into the shittiest little pro Nazi website with a live chatroom on the side.

After a final adjustment of the ring light and a quick wipe of the bench, it was ready to go. With a quick breath, you finally clicked the button, the little blinking red light on your camera assuring you it was rolling.

Within seconds, the viewers started flooding in. The chat was racing with excited comments and greetings.

“Hi everyone! How are we all?”

A smile spread across your face almost instantly. Your viewer community was so lovely and supportive – small, perhaps, but they never failed to make your day. You’d started streaming before you became affiliated with the UKYT scene and had been gradually growing in popularity. But thankfully, nothing much had changed. Despite being in the odd video with Chris, the Arthurs, Bach, and George, you’d been lucky enough to keep your small Twitch community. You were able to stay at a comfortable few thousand loyal subscribers – and you liked it that way. There was something safe in just doing what you loved without the pressure of pleasing a large audience. Your little community was all you needed.

You’d seen the stress the boys go through to please their large fanbases. Keeping up with millions of sometimes impatient fans across multiple platforms was hard at times. Especially for George recently. Despite his seemingly chill persona, George had been a bit on edge over the past couple of weeks. Balancing filming for the Sidemen, podcasts, streaming on Twitch every other day, on top of filming and coming up with his own YouTube ideas, was becoming a lot to handle. There had been nights where he’d lock himself in his room for hours on end and beg you to ignore him until he finished his seemingly endless list of tasks. By the time he'd emerge, the exhaustion would be etched into his face. His eyes drooping and crease lines on his forehead. No words would be exchanged as he padded over and curled into you, falling asleep almost comically fast with his face tucked into the crook of your neck. It was tough, seeing your usually bouncing-off-the-walls boyfriend so tired and stressed. So you decided to help him out a little.

Ah yes, the multitude of ingredients lining your bench. Flour, sugar, a plethora of chocolate chip varieties – today was going to be a long one.

“Alrightie, my lovelies! In case you haven’t already picked up on it – today we’re doing a baking stream! I haven’t done one of these in a while and you guys enjoyed it so much last time I thought I’d bring it back.” The chat spiked, voicing their approval and sending your long-unused baking emote. “And buckle up, team – we’re doing a long stream today.”

And it was – George was out filming for the Sidemen until around 4 p.m. A quick glance at your watch told you it was 10:30. And you had no doubt you’d still be in the kitchen by the time George got home.

“George has been a little bit busy recently, so today I’m going to be making a few of his favourites, and a few other goodies for him to try. Anyone who knows George knows he loves a good sweet treat, so we’re spoiling him a little bit because, quite frankly, he deserves it.”

The chat flowed with lovely messages.

One by one, you ran through all the things you planned to make with your viewers. Chocolate chip and M&M cookies – one of George’s favourites, melting moments – one of your specialties George had been pestering you to let him try, peanut butter cookies, blueberry muffins as a "healthy" option, double chocolate brownies, and finally, a lemon, ginger and coconut slice. A long day indeed. But George was worth it.

To further conceal the surprise, you’d temporarily blocked all of your friends on Twitch, so they wouldn’t be able to see your stream. Thankfully, your chat agreed to keep the stream quiet.

“Okay, I have a whole system ready, guys,” you say with a giggle as you hold up your whiteboard checklist. “I’m going to start with the slice and melting moments, so they can set before George gets home. I’ll work my way through, and make his chocolate chip biscuits and the brownies last, because he likes them fresh out of the oven.”

The hours flew by as you baked. Flour burst into the air on a few occasions, now dusting your hair like you'd been caught in a blizzard. Bags of chocolate chips and pretzels had been opened and scattered across the counter, even though they were definitely meant for George's cookies. Not to mention the egg casualties. The kitchen was messy, to say the least.

The view count fluctuated throughout the day, which is to be expected for an almost full-day stream. Some even left to run errands, returning hours later with an "Oh my goodness, she's STILL going??". It was a long stream, but hey, a lengthy day with your Twitch community was a lot better than an entire day baking alone for hours on end. Throughout the day, your followers made small donations, choosing songs to add to the ever-growing playlist and sending you Text-to-Voice messages with questions, compliments, and random facts – baking streams were definitely a favourite.

By 3 p.m. you'd made the slice, three batches of biscuits, muffins, as well as an unplanned strawberry cake. Home stretch.

You let out a laugh at the banter before a ping on your phone caught your attention.

The next hour is controlled chaos. Flour and chocolate powder particles flying through the air as the batters were whisked quickly, bubbles floating around as you scrubbed the dirty dishes. Your viewers queued up various white-girl anthems to hype you up, speakers blasting 2010s top 20 hits at borderline obscene volumes. The timer for the last tray of cookies sounded through the kitchen just as the front door pushed open.

"I'm home, love!" your boyfriend's voice echoed down the hallway. He sounded content – like he'd had a good day but was excited to be home.

Your smile was instant. "In the kitchen, hon!"

You placed the final tray of cookies on the bench and turned the music off just as George wandered into the room. Upon seeing the kitchen, and the delicious spread of cookies and baked goods covering the countertop, he slowed.

"What's all this then?" His smile was wide and his eyes held a mix of disbelief and appreciation.

"I just wanted to do something nice for you."

He only let out a breathy laugh as he walked over and wrapped his arms around you. Instantly, you melted into him, the familiar warmth in your chest blossoming at the feeling of his strong arms circling your waist and faint heartbeat against yours. His hand threaded into your hair to gently tug you closer, allowing him to nestle his face into you. His deep, grounding breath didn't go unnoticed by you. Instead of pulling away, you allowed his scent to envelop you, along with a hint of grass and Mexican food. It was so easy to get lost in him. Especially when he held you like this. What you both momentarily neglected to realise was that the camera was still rolling.

"Oh, hi chat!" George's voice broke you from your trance. But his hold on your waist didn't waver as he looked over to watch the scrolling messages. "How long has she been on today?"

"11ish?" George burst out, his hands finding your cheeks and tilting your face to meet his eyes, blown wide in shock. "Darling, you've been baking for over five hours?"

Your hands instinctively found his wrists, stroking the skin gently as you spoke, "I had chat to keep me company, we had fun! And I did promise them a live taste test, if that's okay?"

George couldn't help the grin taking over his face as he caught the cheeky glint in your eyes. "You know I can never say no to your baking, love." You turned to walk back to the benchtop before he caught your face. "Wait."

He licked his thumb and swiped it over your cheek, eyes laser focused. After seeing your nose scrunch up in mock disgust, he just gave you a playful smirk. "You had chocolate on your face."

You turned to your camera with a look of betrayal that was quickly overshadowed by your growing smile. "Why did you lot not say anything?"

And with that, you took his hand in yours and led him to the benchtop. One by one, you both tasted all the creations, George toasting each goodie with a signature rhyme. Each bite was met with widening eyes and groans falling from his lips, somehow more impressed by each treat than the last. The way his eyes filled with emotion when you presented him with his favourite cookies did not go unnoticed.

Finally, with bellies full and trays embarrassingly empty, it was time to end the stream.

"Thank you so much for joining me today, guys! I'll be updating next week's stream schedule in the next few days, so hope to see you guys soon!" George's arm snaked around your waist and tugged you into his side, waving at the camera with a smile. "Bye everyone!"

A silence fell over the room like a warm blanket as the camera light flickered to a stop.

"I can't believe you did all this for me."

George's eyes were full of love. He always looked at you like you hung the moon and stars, but his gaze now somehow held even more.

You didn't need to say why you did it – he already knew. That was something that made your relationship so special. There was such a deep and raw understanding of each other that couldn't really be explained, and it had started within weeks of knowing each other.

At your first pub crawl with the boys, George, somehow sensing your social battery depleting, had led you outside with a protective hand on the small of your back. When you'd asked him how he knew, he’d simply answered, "Just a feeling." And you were the same for him. He'd been editing in his room, and opened his door to find you standing there holding a warm box from his favourite pizza place. He asked you how you knew he was hungry, or how he even felt like a pizza, and you'd simply parroted back to him: "Just a feeling." Your friends joked that you were telepathic. But your favourite theory, by far, was ArthurTV's: you were stardust soulmates. Every human has remnants of stardust in their bodies, and Arthur always said that you and George "had to be" from the same star. And it almost became a little theme in your relationship.

No words were needed. You just wrapped your arms around him, carding your fingers into his curls like you were anchoring yourself. His head immediately dropped to nestle into the crook of your neck, pulling you tightly into his chest in unspoken gratitude. For a beautiful moment, everything was quiet, broken only by soft breaths and syncing heartbeats.

His voice came out no louder than a whisper, "I love you. So fucking much."

"I love you too."

"And you have flour in your hair."

Oh, you know, just the usual internet browsing experience in the year of 2024

Some links and explanations since I figured it might be useful to some people, and writing down stuff is nice.

First of all, get Firefox. Yes, it has apps for Android/iOS too. It allows more extensions and customization (except the iOS version), it tracks less, the company has a less shitty attitude about things. Currently all the other alternatives are variations of Chromium, which means no matter how degoogled they supposedly are, Google has almost a monopoly on web browsing and that's not great. Basically they can introduce extremely user unfriendly updates and there's nothing forcing them to not do it, and nowhere for people to escape to. Current examples of their suggested updates are disabling/severly limiting adblocks in June 2024, and this great suggestion to force sites to verify "web environment integrity" ("oh you don't run a version of chromium we approve, such as the one that runs working adblocks? no web for you.").

uBlockOrigin - barely needs any explanation but yes, it works. You can whitelist whatever you want to support through displaying ads. You can also easily "adblock" site elements that annoy you. "Please log in" notice that won't go away? Important news tm sidebar that gives you sensory overload? Bye.

Dark Reader - a site you use has no dark mode? Now it has. Fairly customizable, also has some basic options for visually impaired people.

SponsorBlock for YouTube - highlights/skips (you choose) sponsored bits in the videos based on user submissions, and a few other things people often skip ("pls like and subscribe!"). A bit more controversial than normal adblock since the creators get some decent money from this, but also a lot of the big sponsors are kinda scummy and offer inferior product for superior price (or try to sell you a star jpg land ownership in Scotland to become a lord), so hearing an ad for that for the 20th time is kinda annoying. But also some creators make their sponsored segments hilarious.

Privacy Badger (and Ghostery I suppose) - I'm not actually sure how needed these are with uBlock and Firefox set to block any tracking it can, but that's basically what it does. Find someone more educated on this topic than me for more info.

Https Everywhere - I... can't actually find the extension anymore, also Firefox has this as an option in its settings now, so this is probably obsolete, whoops.

Facebook Container - also comes with Firefox by default I think. Keeps FB from snooping around outside of FB. It does that a lot, even if you don't have an account.

WebP / Avif image converter - have you ever saved an image and then discovered you can't view it, because it's WebP/Avif? You can now save it as a jpg.

YouTube Search Fixer - have you noticed that youtube search has been even worse than usual lately, with inserting all those unrelated videos into your search results? This fixes that. Also has an option to force shorts to play in the normal video window.

Consent-O-Matic - automatically rejects cookies/gdpr consent forms. While automated, you might still get a second or two of flashing popups being yeeted.

XKit Rewritten - current most up to date "variation "fork" of XKit I think? Has settings in extension settings instead of an extra tumblr button. As long as you get over the new dash layout current tumblr is kinda fine tbh, so this isn't as important as in the past, but still nice. I mostly use it to hide some visual bloat and mark posts on the dash I've already seen.

YouTube NonStop - do you want to punch youtube every time it pauses a video to check if you're still there? This saves your fists.

uBlacklist - blacklists sites from your search results. Obviously has a lot of different uses, but I use it to hide ai generated stuff from image search results. Here's a site list for that.

Redirect AMP to HTML - redirects links from their amp version to the normal version. Amp link is a version of a site made faster and more accessible for phones by Bing/Google. Good in theory, but lets search engines prefer some pages to others (that don't have an amp version), and afaik takes traffic from the original page too. Here's some more reading about why it's an issue, I don't think I can make a good tl;dr on this.

Also since I used this in the tags, here's some reading about enshittification and why the current mainstream internet/services kinda suck.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii contains an unused object called "EN_REVERSE", which is represented in the footage by a black hole. Note that the game does not contain any graphics for the object and the black hole was chosen merely as a visual aid.

The object allows Mario to swap layers between foreground and background, similar to how ducking on white blocks worked in Super Mario Bros. 3, except that the effect is not timed and instead permanent until Mario uses the object again.

While in the background, Mario will walk behind decorative objects, walls, and not interact with any foreground enemies, as shown in the footage. The object seems to be fully implemented and works without any issues when put back into the game, which raises the question of why it was abandoned during development.

I really hate how ads have taken over the internet. On one hand, I know that hosting a website costs money, right? And ad revenue is one of the simplest ways for free-to-use websites to cover their operating costs.

My question is-- and I would genuinely love an answer-- is this ever going to stop? Tumblr ran for a long time without ads. So did Youtube. I know that the cost of hosting so much media has gone up, but there are a lot of users on these websites that make the content that drives people to use the service that don't see any of the money generated by this revenue. On Youtube, there's at least a way for creators to make some money from what they do. For most, it isn't much, but the opportunity is there. On Tumblr, well... the ability to convert the visibility of my blog into any financial gain practically nonexistent, though they did at one point promise that users would be able to make money from ads run on their blogs (whatever happened to that, Staff?).

"You can pay to avoid seeing ads!" Tumblr says, as if the views on my main blog alone over the past few years have not generated more than enough ad revenue to cover the price they're asking me to pay, the person who is actively making content that brings eyes to their ads.

I'm not mad at Tumblr for hosting ads. I get that it has to happen because it's the easiest way to keep the site free, and honestly, I imagine Tumblr's staunch opposition to monetization has been a real obstacle for the team building Tumblr. But at the same time, it feels like yet another small concession in the usability of the site. I'm tired of ads that auto-play with blaring audio while I'm scrolling. I'm tired of adds that, if I touch them while trying to scroll past them, take me to an external site. Outside of tumblr, I'm tired of looking for information online only to get a webpage that's 95% ads and otherwise illegible. Hell, I recently got an ad on Discord. Was it unobtrusive? Maybe. But it was there, for the first time, and I know that won't be the end.

I know the first reply I'm going to get on this is "use adblock", and yes, that's a solution, but think about how much the landscape for media has changed in just ten years.

Popular forums are basically gone outside of reddit.

Youtube, without Red, is ad hell. You can't watch more than 3-4 minutes of video without getting sent to marketing hell.

Instagram, Tumblr, Twitter-- it's terrible. I firmly believe they've manufactured a worse experience through the implementation of ads to convince you to buy into their premium services.

Remember when games didn't include micro-transactions? Blizzard is charging $70 for one mythic skin. You could almost buy Overwatch 1 twice-over at that price-point.

Influencers make a living by making their lives into advertisements.

Youtube has retaliated against users using ad-block on non-chrome browsers by artificially inflating the load times of it's videos.

What can we do about this? I imagine companies see it as an infinite money hack; users can't stop companies from hosting ads, and the action they could take to voice their displeasure-- leaving the site, using other competitive services-- has been all but obliterated thanks to the homogeneity of popular social media outlets. If someone is truly so incensed about ads, well-- it isn't like they have to engage with them, right? They can enroll in a cheap, auto-renewing service to get rid of ads entirely. Well, wait, the price of premium might just have to go up. Don't worry, it's auto-renewing! You won't even notice it. Oh, no, it's got to go up again, you won't even notice it.

There's no incentive for them to cap this behavior, and no way for us as users to pressure them to do so. We create these spaces; we fill them with color, art, activism, community, and the companies that ride on the tailcoat of the spaces we create tell us to give them more. What comes next?

every platform wants your attention because your attention = profit. tiktok, youtube, even your student portal — everything’s designed to keep you scrolling, spending, or stressing. time is a resource. start protecting it like your money.

but what does that actually mean?

recently, the ftc hosted a 2025 workshop called “the attention economy: how big tech firms exploit kids and hurt families,” highlighting how platforms intentionally hook users.

studies show that 1 in 5 teens spends over 2 hours daily on tiktok—over recommended limits—and higher usage is linked to anxiety and lower self-esteem.

researchers also warn that algorithmic amplification (like tiktok’s for-you feed) fuels compulsive use by reinforcing targeted content deep into feeds.

here’s how to take your attention back and why it matters:

1. delete one app every weekend. just for two days. a brief digital detox, like removing social media apps over a weekend, can reduce stress and improve focus.

2. if you wouldn’t pay to see it, don’t give it your full attention. time is a resource—if content wouldn’t earn your money, don’t give your attention. treat it like currency.

3. make your phone boring. moving apps off your home screen and switching your phone to grayscale can reduce its addictive pull .

4. start “micro budgeting” your attention. time-blocking your screen use—like budgeting money—improves control and awareness over where your time goes .

5. set one hour a week as “no input” time. intentionally unplugged time helps spark creativity and mental clarity.

Thanks for sending this to me! Honestly, I know the majority of the critics and antis dislike him but I will admit Raphielle’s perspective is interesting.

Here are some notes I made while watching the video:

- Raphielle ships ValAngel but not in a “I want them to be happily ever after” but he likes the dynamic.

- Raphielle grew up with a conservative mother who controlled them for majority of his life.

- Raphielle didn’t know the user he interacted with was 15 years old. According to Raph, he allegedly checked their profile and there was no age.

2 months later, another user dug the conversation and informed Raph that user is 15. Raphielle clicked on the profile and the age was there. Raphielle panicked and immediately apologized.

- Raphielle (in the interview) detracts their apology because the user (the 15 year old) blew it up into this big thing.

- Raphielle deleted Twitter because he realized there are a bunch of minors in this fandom who have no business being here.

- Raph acknowledges how his content and the things he enjoys is triggering. He apologizes and mentions how he doesn’t want to be a problem for people.

- Raphielle says that you cater your own experience and create your own internet experience. And says to block and mute him.

- Raph says that it’s not his job to vet every single person who follows them. It’s the parents’ job to watch their kid(s).

- Raph says that ValAngel people are the nicest people he met because they are open and understanding.

- Raph loves the kink community.

- Angel Dust positively changed Raph’s life (when he cosplayed Angel) and realized this what was holding them back. Raph loved how unapologetically Angel Dust is.

- Raphielle’s first assignment was “Addict.”

- Raphielle took pole dancing classes because of Angel Dust.

- Someone chooses to watch it beyond the warning (Raph is aware that there wasn’t a warning and is glad they added it), but once you see that warning and see what this is about- Raphielle acknowledges the Hazbin haters are fully aware of Angel’s story from Addict. And you the viewer decide to watch it, you are consenting to watching the thing.

Raphielle mentions that the viewers safe word is the pause button and the X button. Raphielle uses the same logic for their artwork as they mention he has warnings, etc.
