I don't know if you've done this before but what are some good ways to describe speech?
Ways to Describe Speech

His voice was deep like the rumbling of the earth.
She had the voice of a singer, smooth and rich like chocolate.
Their voice reminded him of spring rain.
He often paused in his speaking, like a car radio that had lost signal.
She had a lilt to her voice that made it seem like she was asking a question.
Their voice was monotonous, threatening to put her to sleep with every word.
He couldn't put her voice into words. It was... otherworldly.
Her voice was brittle, as if she were on the verge of tears.
Their voice was authoritative. Their words carried like a loud command.
His voice, unapologetic and unwavering, made her shrink back.
Her voice was barely above a whisper.
Their words were cold with anger.

Hi, I know you've talked about differences in MDZS translations before so I wanted to ask something. In the exr version of the Yunmeng/Dream Come True chapter, after Wei Wuxian admits that he just wanted to hang out with Lan Wangji back then, they translate one of the lines as "Be honest about whether or not you thought about me in the same way." In the 7s version, they translate it as "Tell me if you felt the same way." However, the exr line seems to have more romantic undertones than the 7s one (i.e. 'did you feel the same about me' vs. 'did you also want to hang out'). Do you possibly know which is more true to the original meaning of the text? Or am I just reading into it too much and there really is no difference between the two??
I can't tell you which translation is closer to the original wording of that section, because I can't understand the raws and there's no third translation to act as tie-breaker. I feel like they both say the same thing, though, it's just that the 7seas version reads weirder because it breaks the rhythm in wangxian's call-and-response by deleting the repetition, which also makes that bit of dialogue sound awkward and clunky.
He turned around to give him a hand, “And so, Lan Zhan, you’re gonna have to be honest too.” Lan WangJi also went back on the boat. He handed him a red ribbon, “Be honest about what?” Wei WuXian held the ribbon in between his lips, using both of his hands to retie the hair that had come loose underwater, “Be honest about whether or not you thought about me in the same way.”
—exr
vs.
“So tell me honestly, Lan Zhan.” Lan Wangji got on the boat and handed him a red cord. “Of what?” Wei Wuxian held the red cord with his mouth as he pulled back his hair, which had come loose in the water. “Tell me if you felt the same way,” he said solemnly.
—7seas
Idk why the 7seas translator went with that choice of diction, but this is why it's good to have a translator who is also a good creative writer translate creative writing.

Thank you, Claudia Gray, for giving Rael Averross that stupid accent; finally I can write some dialogue at all similar to the pattern and sound of how I speak irl. Tragically, some of us have yankee-doodle-ass cowboy hot dog mouths up in here.😔

Something about being an IDW OP fan is that even in positive works about him I feel like his problematic aspects are brought up way too often even in an appreciative way.
Ignore the haters of IDW OP/other characters I'm using as an example bc I'm talking about how fans talk about their own faves.
Like with Prowl fans, they know he's problematic but they pretty much just go "yeah he's an asshole what about it" or just don't acknowledge it at all and write/draw what they want to see. Some might allude to ACAB stuff but they don't do a disclaimer on every post about him with "btw I know cops are bastards and war crimes are evil I just think he's neat"
Pharma stans make content about him, whether apologism or just fun haha chainsaw doctor, without having to constantly be like "medical malpractice is bad and all but" or "He kills people and that's definitely important to talk about but" they just write about Pharma being a tragic/evil character and that's that
Megatron fans definitely are willing to talk about him being problematic, but again that element of self consciousness isn't there and ppl write headcanons and fics and stuff without Megatron having to turn around in the narration and go "oh I'm evil I'm so awful no one should be like me" as a sign to the audience that the author doesn't condone Megatron's actions and thinks colonialism is bad
I'm sure I could come up with other examples but like it's just weird to me that even among ppl who like IDW Optimus (and I'm not immune to this either), there's like this self-effacing attitude where ppl can't just say "I like him" or "It was cool when he did this" without almost ALWAYS preceding it with some sort of "He is a cop but" or "He's kind of a jerk but" or "I would hate him IRL but" as if there's some sort of Transformers fandom panopticon saying that you're not allowed to talk positively about IDW OP without first mentioning all of his flaws/problematic aspects. People sort of speak about him as if he's enjoyable or well written DESPITE being problematic, or that enjoying him has to be justified bc him being problematic automatically makes him repulsive. As opposed to merely talking about IDW OP as he is, and the problematic parts of him are thinks you can talk about or not talk about just depending on your mood and what angle you want to approach. No, every post or conversation has to always allude to how "IDW OP is an asshole, but he also has positive traits" or "I know he's problematic, but hear me out."
Hell even tho I'm seeing a little more fic about IDW OP or OPs with more IDW elements, it still feels as if most writers put him in situations where he goes "yeah I'm sorry I'm problematic and did bad things" as if he has to confess his sins publicly before being allowed to be a person. Or that the author feels the need to write him as such to reassure the audience "No actually I know ACAB just because I like IDW OP doesn't mean I'm not progressive look here I'm writing a story about everyone calling him an asshole for being a cop and OP kisses Megatron's ass because revolutionaries are actually right and it's only state propaganda that maligns them as violent and capable of wrong."
Idk I just think that among people who enjoy problematic characters, there are still a lot of fans who are either immature or self-conscious in their enjoyment of problematic characters. Where they DO have that enjoyment but they feel the need to make public disclaimers constantly or write their stories in a moralizing way to demonstrate how well they know that character is problematic. To contrast, I think true "problematic character" enjoyment comes when people can just LIKE A CHARACTER and it's a morally neutral act where they don't feel the need to make demonstrations about how transgressive it is and how their taste in fictional characters definitely doesn't reflect their real life morality.
It's just saddening bc even tho these days, there are lots of people who like IDW OP and there's fewer people being assholes about him, it still feels as if content about him is self-conscious of the fact and won't let him exist as a character/funny guy in your brain/vessel of themes and plot and instead it's some sort of Hays Code-esque thing where every time he appears on screen at least one person has to call him a cop bastard so the audience knows the fanfiction isn't copaganda.
But what if instead IDW OP fans and fan content had the same energy as other problematic character fanbases like Prowl or Megatron and we could just go "yeah here's a story about my favorite guy" without making a whole disclaimer about it

andie, having grown up in brooklyn new york and to a jewish family, does know (select) yiddish and will throw out phrases or words from time time. it doesn't always quite mesh with the rest of her vocabulary, but nonetheless they are words she knows and will use! your muse isn't necessarily expected to know what it means that's fine

HOW TO DECIDE A TITLE FOR YOUR STORY
Picking titles for your story can be crucial. Creating the perfect title that tells its own story and is unique, importantly, it should reach the right audience.
"If they can judge a book by its cover, they will judge the title."
Know the summary of your story, and build a title based on it. (Your title should relatively give an idea about the story)
Deciding the title after significant elements in your book.
Naming the title after the plot twist (no one sees it coming)
Give the title of your story based on the main character.
Avoid cliches and long titles. (They aren't as impactful as you think)
Titles often vary by genre. For instance, mystery titles might aim to be more enigmatic, while romance titles may focus on emotions or relationships.
Remember, your title should make the reader think, excite them, and create a memorable title.
Author Tip: Picking the 'perfect' title can be difficult. Take help by browsing through movie names and mix-matching the words.

that last, complete breakdown, felt like dying.
but it seems some things are finally starting to click now. I think I'm closer to seeing everything, exactly as it was, than I've ever been. the fog in my mind still overshadows the details. probably more than I can even imagine. the days are blurred, I remember still pictures and drowned feelings — my memories are locked away somewhere in that haze.
I can't reach them yet. but. in this current retrospect, I see enough to understand.
a few things. at least.
enough to let it happen. I think.

3. One emotional aspect of a ship that always gets you
12. List 3 ships you currently love
38. Describe their ideal home (for a pairing of your choice).
3. Probably how people take care of each other. Like, it's always such a good foreshadowing technique in stories when one character goes out of their way to help the other. Helps the slow burn :3
12. 1. Ann Elliot and Captain Wentworth from Persuasion. I'm so glad I finally got around to reading Persuasion. I love how despite the fact that Captain Wentworth was considering courting other women, he always made sure that Ann was comfortable and taken care of. And they end up really suiting each other!
2. Leslie and Ben from Parks and Rec. I love how capable both parties are, and I love how in awe of each other's abilities they are. That and they goof with each other, very healthy to see.
3. And because I made it, my own WoLxUrianger ship! It has all my favorite tropes XD!
38. Going through Alexander, I kinda joked that Minthe and Daedalus' house would be in the strange city within it. Minthe wouldn't care so much for location, but she would decorate it to her liking. Daedalus would probably make a bunch of renovations and Minthe would be proud of everything he made with his hands.
Thanks for the ask!
