Email alternatives to Gmail

Tuta: Based in Germany, Tuta offers an end-to-end encrypted email service (with encrypted calendar!). Tuta Mail recently shipped an email importer, making it easier to migrate away from your current provider. The free plan offers encryption, 1 GB of storage, and one calendar, and paid plans start at €3 per month. The company has taken a strong stance against incorporating AI in its email client.

Fastmail: Based in Australia, Fastmail has been operating since 1999. While it doesn’t offer end–to-end encryption, it’s no slouch when it comes to security. It doesn’t offer a free option, but plans start at a reasonable €6 per month.

Proton: Based in Switzerland, Proton has long been synonymous with privacy. What started as an end-to-end encrypted email service has expanded to offer a calendar, wallet, VPN, password manager, and cloud storage, making it a pretty compelling Google competitor. (That being said, we’d be remiss if we didn’t point out their CEO’s recent praise of Trump.)

we also watched a lovely documentary called "birdsong" about this autistic ornithologist from cork on a mission to record all the bird calls in ireland. he seems so wholesome and so, so obsessed with birds. sometimes he would be talking to the camera and then abruptly cut off to go "there! did you hear that? woodpecker!" and just go running off to take a recording

anyway if you like birds i would recommend it. lots of good bird content with an incredibly earnest presenter. and unlike many documentaries it's not Here's A C List Celebrity Learning Basic Facts, it's Here's A Guy Sharing His Special Interest With The World so you get to see the quiet competence of a man listening to a bird mimicking the calls of other birds and a) identifying the mimic and b) naming all the other birds it's mimicking, one after the other, just by sound

he talks a little bit about finding out he was autistic (essentially his partner was doing an education degree and learning about autism and went. "ah. hang on. seán i think you're autistic because they just described you exactly." but it's not a sob story or an inspirational story or anything, it's just kind of Bonus Context for his life and the fact that he likes to run off into nature to listen to birds when life gets too noisy and full of people)

"show" dianshiju 电视剧

"watch" kan 看

"novel" xiaoshuo 小说

"read" yuedu 阅读

"online" zaixian 在线

"free" mianfei 免费

"sub" zimu 字幕

"comic" manhua 漫画

"animation" donghua 动画

"audiobook" yousheng duwu 有声读物

"audio book" yousheng shu 有声书

"dub" 配音 (Specifically for Chinese dubs: 国语, 台配, 普通话)

There's MANY Chinese websites, just as many pirating sites as in English. If you can search for what you want to find in Chinese, it is ridiculously easy to find it. You can find whatever you want (mostly), if you just search in Chinese! Just search Google, or Duckduckgo, or searx.space search engine of choice! And yes, I've brought this up before. I've mentioned these search terms in other posts. They're useful!

What I think is so important to learning how to truly appreciate life is learning how to appreciate the creatures and things we've categorized as "disgusting" or "gross."

When I learned to appreciate wasps, I realized how much they just... don't really care about anything, and they're not trying to be an asshole because they're uniquely cruel. If they have any wants, it is to live. Why would I punish that when I also want to live?

This isn't to say you need to fall in love with the creepy crawlies that stalk this world or to love what you cannot, but to recognize that in their arrangement of atoms, they are trying to persevere, and in the end... aren't we all?
