I saw the thing about asking a question about a story. I figured I'd ask about Liability. What's your favorite part of that one?

Oh, interesting choice of fic to ask about! Cool! So yeah: while series 3 was airing, I wrote a number of shorter stories, which more or less correlate to how uneasy I felt about each episode as it came out, lol. After The Empty Hearse aired, I just wrote one, Unspoken, which is my shortest story ever, just over 1,100 words. It’s just a projected pre-wedding scene wherein Sherlock tells John, RIGHT before the ceremony, that he doesn’t want him to marry Mary and kisses him. After The Sign of Three, the uneasiness increased significantly and I wrote The Rising Tide, which is a dream fic that John has on his wedding night, wherein he dreams about the stag nights. Then I wrote France, which is about John coming back from his honeymoon to find that Sherlock has disappeared and that everyone seems to be pissed off at him. It ends with him going to France to find Sherlock. And then I wrote Liability - all in this one week, so these were all pretty hastily written! - which to my knowledge is actually the first fic that predicted (wrongly, alas) that John wasn’t the father of Mary’s child. And then His Last Vow aired and I lost my damned mind and churned out fix-it after fix-it for the next three years, not stopping until series 4 aired, lol. What I like about Liability is that I always love writing the Holmes brothers. I find their relationship so interesting, and one of my favourite scenes in series 3 is the goldfish conversation between Sherlock and Mycroft. For me, this represents a major shift between them: prior to this, Mycroft always looked down on Sherlock for his susceptibility to getting “involved”, to becoming too attached to people - and later we saw, because of his traumatic losses as a child (his sister, his home, his dog/friend). Sherlock always seemed to, if a bit resentfully, accept this view of himself as the less intelligent, less able to commit himself to emotional detachment compared to Mycroft, who is a master at it - save, perhaps, when it comes to his younger sibling(s). In the goldfish conversation, it’s Sherlock who turns the tables on Mycroft and calls out his inherent loneliness, the price of his self-imposed isolation. It shows him not apologising for or ducking away from his acknowledged desire to have John in his life, but coming to terms with it, accepting it, even defending it. The parallel to the smelly-hatted train enthusiast is pretty clear, too. Sherlock asks, “why would he mind being different? Why should anyone mind?” (or words to that effect), claiming his own uniqueness without seeing it as a social or professional liability. It’s an important turning point in their relationship, and it comes about because of John’s importance to Sherlock and Sherlock’s unwillingness to even consider not wanting it as a part of his life - and not backing down from Mycroft’s criticism of it, either. This story is meant to build on that, even in Sherlock’s post-wedding despair - which turned out to be pretty canonical. I think that they’d teased that John was going to be pissed to find Sherlock in a drug den or something, so that wasn’t just clever projection on my part! I also just like writing from Mycroft’s POV. I don’t do it very often, but it’s highly enjoyable when I do! Thanks for the question! :)

@corpsereviver2  ( @bergamotandbone ) wrote a very nice potterlock fic, with Sherlock and John as Hogwarts professors. Sadly, their AO3 is no longer to be found.  Some of their previous work can found on the wayback machine, but not this one, last I looked.

Sherlock is dead. Moriarty is free. And John is … falling. What do you do when you have nothing to lose?

YES! FINALLY! On Sunday we get to start posting the new fic. The third story in the Forethought and Fire series, I have the absolute honor of writing this one with the amazing @7-percent.

Continuing on from A Dead Man's Money, Few Escape the Gallows pits a grieving John Watson against an angry Sebastian Moran.

You don't need to have read the previous two fics to know what is going on. Suffice to say Moriarty has a plan and Mycroft is going to pay.

And then there is Sherlock …

This fic promises johnlock and mormor. With @7-percent's skill in twisting the literal and metaphorical knife, there is a shed-load of case fic. It is a whole lot darker and angsty-er than my previous two, so please heed the tags and trigger warnings accordingly.

Welcome back to our first chat for the fic Summit Fever by @jbaillier! We had a grand old time, with some fun little pop ins by the author themselves!

So, it was general consensus that James Sholto is a . . . not very cool dude.

@reveling-in-mayhem​ - I can’t stand James in this story. Who does that?!

@srebrnafh​ - James is definitely the acting asshole.

Ignoring douchebag James, John is very mature and perceptive in this fic, especially in relation to Sherlock.

@saki1010​ - Yes, John is very observant in this, as he has to be as a guide and a doctor with many people's lives in his hands.

@shiplocks-of-love​ - No matter which universe, John Watson will always be the one finding Sherlock special

We took some time to do some fancasting for Val and Mince.

Mince has been cast as Taika Waititi

Val has been cast as Eva Green and/or Irene Adler

We also took some time appreciating the breath-taking imagery in this fic

@shiplocks-of-love​ - I absolutely hate heights and almost got a bit dizzy with some of the descriptions. Watched videos linked on the notes with one eye open

@benzedrine-calmstheitch​ - Oh yeah, having had very mild altitude sickness and being a bit nervous with heights, watching the linked climbing videos was like watching a thriller. but like, a really pretty one.

One thing we all seemed to enjoy was the universe’s representation of Harry Watson.

@saki101 - A very refreshing change.  And it brings them even closer, because they can share these experiences, understand what each of them sees/saw in them.

We noted how lonely our two boys are,

@sherlock-nanowrimo​ - The first convo that John and Sherlock have together sort of reminded me of their attitudes on the show in that John agrees with Sherlock in a lot of his points, but disagrees on the most fundamental thing – going it alone. Very similar to the show.

@benzedrine-calmstheitch​ - Anyone else feel a bit sad for John, that he's got company when he's in some of the most isolated places on earth and then goes home to an empty apartment in the city? my boy is lonely

@elwinglyre​ - It’s about two people who think they don’t need anyone else. Sherlock on the mountain, and John in his heart.

And how that likely lead to John’s not so good romantic relationship with James Sholto and his choice to continue working for him

@yorkiepug - He was probably staying with James to just not be alone

@inevitably-johnlocked​ - Like it was mentioned above, John was just with James to avoid being lonely

@hpswl-cumbercookie​ - I can imagine that he stays working with James because despite the awkwardness, it's comfortable, and he knows he has that job

Sherlock, we determined is a smol bean.

@elwinglyre​ - Sherlock doesn’t want to join the others. Keeps to himself. Until John. He takes a chance.

@benzedrine-calmstheitch​ - That moment in the helicopter. the fact that his reason for not going to the campfire isn't "i don't want to," it's "nobody wants me to"

@masterofhounds9​ - Sherlock is the kid desperate to fit in to the group.

And as usual, we got a little thirsty for muscular Sherlock and Bearded John . . . and fried eggs and potatoes.
