Another slightly insane crossover but like IT and falsettos!! I think that falsettos and the way Whizzer and Marvin interact is so reminiscent of reddie and NO it's not just because they are both bickering married couples! I find the parallels in their dynamics clearest in Falsettoland (or just act 2 lol).

First up like the Whizzer singing "don't let me make the same mistakes" is just like when the losers club reunite after 27 years, particularly Eddie and Richie wanting to return to the dynamic they had as kids, but at the same time knowing that things have changed, and that they have to rediscover things about each other. They are both (whizzvin and reddie) able to comfortably slip back into routine and the dynamic they used to have, but being unsure if (unsure in the case of reddie, i think Whizzer KNOWS that they need to change lol) that familiar dynamic is what is best for them. Should they change? Will they change? Will they make the same mistakes? Can it ever work out between them?

I think the clearest crossover for me is the last two whizzer/marvin centric musical numbers though, "unlikely lovers" and "what would I do?".

Likeeeeee I can totally see Richie saying, "let's be scared together" and "let's pretend that nothing is awful" to Eddie while he's dying. Also, the parallels between Whizzer dying, leaving Marvin alone while Cordelia and charlotte get to survive (the "unlikely lovers") and live happily, then like Eddie dies leaving Richie alone while Ben and Beverly get to live happily together (the losers club). The line "I'd like to believe that I'd do it again and again" from What would I do? is so so so Richie Tozier coded. Honestly the entirety of What would I do? reminds me of Richie at the end of It chapter 2 so bad, just completely shaken by the love of his life dying in his arms. That mix of being unable to think about anything but how helpless he feels with Eddie gone, grateful that he was even in his life in the first place and regretting not having done more, not having fought to have him.

Whizzer and Marvin were also robbed of a life together, just like Richie and Eddie :(

God, the way that Ben and Beverly are kissing underwater while Richie is grieving is like genuinely the most sickening part of IT chapter 2 for me, second to the scene where the little girl gets lured under the bleachers, but that's completely off topic.

This is the most 2019 post I think I've ever made. It's actually so hard to hyperfixate on movies/musicals with a fanbases that peaked almost a decade ago.

Ok so I've been commenting on how everyone is in their falsetto but Jason in march of the falsettos for years now and I was starting to think about what that would mean if it's intentional.

The entire point of the song is to show how Trina sees all of the men in the musical with how immature they're all being, which you see in Trina's song with "men who aren't quite men yet, but aren't boys," which makes sense for everyone but Jason.

The rest of them are grown men who should know better, specifically Mendel with how he's completely using advantage of and manipulating all of them to get closer to Trina, and Marvin with how he's literally been forcing his ex wife, child, and boyfriend to live in the same house. This isn't to say that Whizzer isn't doing anything wrong because his character definitely has flaws, especially through Trina's eyes.

Everyone singing in their falsetto is used to symbolise the fact that they're acting insanely immature for how old they are, but a lot of Jason's actions are completely normal for his age. He's 10-10.5 in act one and all he wants is to have a normal life, but everything keeps falling apart around him. His internalised homophobia at the start of act one, while it's very different from how kids today would view things, is kind of to be expected considering the fact that queer people were less talked about in the late 70s and definitely not in a positive way when they were, so even that was a lack of education, which you can see as he gets more and more comfortable around Whizzer and the lesbians (as well as Marvin but he had to get more comfortable around him for other reasons), when he starts genuinely caring about them and spending more time around them.

The reason he wasn't singing in falsetto with the others is because, while he's still immature at times, it's to be expected from how old he is at the time and it's also good that he has some childlike qualities left with how quickly he had to grow up. The rest of them have no reason to be acting as immature as they are because, while we have no confirmed ages, they're all somewhere between the ages of 30 and 45 (ish, I've seen 20 in Whizzer's age range but I'd rather not think of him being that young), it's a lot worse not just for age reasons but also because in some of their cases, they're harming people with how they're acting.

The reason jason isn't speaking in his falsetto is because his behavior can be excused with his age, while the rest of their behavior very much can't be.

Sorry this was a lot I'm very hyperfixated on this right now

writing under cut :D

"I'd love to be somebody's "The one who got away"," Whizzer said for the millionth time since they've been together. And it's been 10 months, —Not 9 Whizzer stop smelling the damn roses.—

Marvin rolled his eyes and he knew by proximity alone that Whizzer saw the action. Whizzer slouched from where he sat in Marvin's lap and pouted with a huff that blew on Marvin's stubble. Marvin could barely stand him. "Ever thought of monogamy? It's a joy, I'm sure you'll love it," He drawled, repeating words of his own. 

"I'd love to leave you, ever think of that?" Whizzer quips mercilessly, but still it's repeatitive. He's smiling now, though, testing Marvin. They both know where this leads. 

"I'd love for you to love me, or want me, or need me even." 

Whizzer scoffs, "Don't be so foolish, Marv. You know you'll never get what you want from me." Whizzer's smirk is wide, Marvin wants to kiss it off. 

So he does, because he always gets what he wants.

"Marv, did I end up as your "One who got away"?" Whizzer asks off handedly one afternoon on the weekend. Which means Jason is quite literally a room over and Cordelia will likely be busting down the door any second now, Charlotte in tow. 

It's been years since Marvin's heard that phrase, and every time Whizzer would bring it up they would fight. Marvin hates those fights now, and that phrase is so negative in his mind now that he freezes up. 

Whizzer who is sat on the chair in front of him notices —of course, Marvin couldn't be discrete about it— and he seems to perk up. What? "You okay?" Whizzer asks simply... But could it ever be that simple? Two years ago Whizzer would have never showed that kind of care however simple. Instead Whizzer's mouth would form a familiar insult, whether it be about his clothes or rightfully calling out the sack of shit Marvin was. 

So hearing such a simple question fills the burnt pit in his stomach before he feels the words finding their way up his esophagus and out of his mouth. "I am. I am so much more than okay with you." 

Whizzer smiles and his face scrunches together like he's trying to surpress it. He looks uncharacteristically bashful. Whizzer stands from his chair and walks to Marvin, causally taking a seat beside him, so close their knees touch. Marvin responds by placing his hand on Whizzer's thigh. Whizzer lowly chuckles and takes Marvin's hand in his own. He traces Marvin's knuckles, rubs circles into his palm, and Marvin had never thought he was a touch starved man until now. Until Whizzer. Whizzer had flipped his entire life upside down. Whizzer indirectly made him better. Whizzer was constantly on his mind for the last two years. Whizzer speaks, "You still didn't answer my question."

Marvin snaps out of his trance and looks at Whizzer's eyes which are fixed on their connected hands. "Shit, what was the question?"

"Oh, it's only the question i brought up pretty much everyday for nine months straight," He lightly teased and Whizzer connected their hands fully, tilting his head to return eye contact. His smarty smile is beautiful. 

Luckily the hint lands and Marvin squeezes Whizzer's hand and smiles faintly, wanting to return his joy but still the thought of that question... "Yes... But you're here now, aren't you?" 

"I am," It's a finality. "I just remembered how often I would ask that and got curious." He leans into Marvin and their hands never part. 

Marvin preens at the contact but takes a finger to guide Whizzer's head up again. Their eyes meet and Whizzer must be the most beautiful thing in the world. Marvin has never felt so lucky to be loved, to have Whizzer again in his arms and in his hands. Marvin pecks the tip of Whizzer's nose before saying softly, "Then that makes you the one who stayed."
