i just wanna talk about hyperhidrosis for a minute because it's something that has caused distress for me since i was a kid but i never see it talked about. for context, hyperhidrosis is when your body produces way more sweat than is needed. it can be a symptom of other things or can just be something that happens on its own and is pretty commonly hereditary.
both of my parents and i have hyperhidrosis. i'm an only child so this meant that my entire household experienced hyperhidrosis since i was young, which made me think that these symptoms were much more typical. i would be constantly sweating, i couldn't go outside in the summer without being supremely uncomfortable. i would often sweat through shorts and shirts. it was very easy for me to be dehydrated and on more than one occasion i would near passing out because of it. it made taking care of hygiene even more stressful, as being trans and autistic i already struggled with hygiene, and sweating all the time meant i had to be more rigorous and routine to make sure i smelled okay, but i often struggled, leading to more social anxiety and often bullying.
i'm on medication now for it, as when i started testosterone i started getting severe hot flashes often (which my mother did also when she went through menopause). i talked to my doctor about possible solutions and she recommended a hyperhidrosis medication for it (because going on estrogen isn't exactly ideal), which has decreased the hot flashes and my overall sweating. i don't think i would have started this medication if it weren't for my severe hot flashes and avoidance of estrogen medication due to being on testosterone. it's made my experience of testosterone a lot different because where most people start sweating more, i have been sweating less than i have ever been. my body temperature is much warmer but i'm not overheated and sweating all the time.
i don't hear about hyperhidrosis, like ever, and while i still hesitate to call it a disability, it does shape my disabled experience in the way it interacts with my ability to function, especially in conjunction with things like my chronic pain and autism. it shapes my trans experience too, and my trans experience has shaped my experience of this disorder. i wanted to share my experiences with it in case anyone else has experienced something similar because you don't hear about it all that often and i think it's important to know other people experience this too.

I hate excessive sweating its so exhausting going out these days cause you get drenched so easily and it’s embrassing looking like you’re melting taking forever to cool off, doesn’t help the weather is getting worse.

I really hope i can get effective hyper hidrosis treatment without having to wait years still. Most of the time I can't do embroidery, i can't see by hand, i can't touch food, i can't write on paper, i can barely ever read physical books it's so fucking annoying and disabling. I keep having to take off my thumb brace so i can wipe it dry. It makes holding my crutches a lot harder. Actually it makes holding most things harder. I'm always drying my hands off on my pants and shirts. And when it's at its worst i can't even use my phone because no touch screen can read it properly if your hands are literally dripping wet.
I hate hyper hidrosis so much
If there was a single thing i could change about my body, anything, i would take away the hyperhidrosis. Not the shitty joints or digestive system, not my circulatory system or my neurology issues, not the autoimmune bullshit. No, i would choose to get rid of the stupid hyperhidrosis.
#It can literally be more disabling than my hyper mobility and all that comes with it#Which is a lot of shit#Palm hyperhidrosis#Hyperhidrosis#sweating#Excessive sweating#disability#disabled#chronic illness#chronically ill#how is this my life??#why is this my life??#fuck my life#shadows talk

Ok not sure how long these would stay cold but the instant ice pack + absorption of a maxi pad and adhesive so you can stick it anywhere under your clothes??? And you DONT NEED TO FREEZE IT? And it's DISPOSABLE??? this may just be the godsend I was looking for 😭

This is the second night I've gone to put my jammies back on from the night before
And they smelled like brown sugar
I was a little concerned last night but whatever, maybe it was food spilled on it (and not my bloodsugar trying to tell me something)
But again? Yikes 😬
I checked my bloodsugar just now and it wasn't skyrocket or anything. I did miss my dinner meds and also maybe had cake 👀 💦
Actually, it's like... really good, considering. Just 30 over what the doc would like.
Brown sugar is not what my sweat usually smells like. When I can smell it, like when my head is soaked, it smells like almost turned tea. 😅 (I drink a shitton of tea)
So. It's kinda freaking me out 🫣

i could research this instead of asking tumblr but also it’s a niche ass question so idk what google would even have to offer me…
does anyone know if there’s like. a reason i shouldn’t buy that hydrophobic spray the girlies get for their uggs and spray it on the inside of my shirts? like does it only work on suede? is it bad to be coming in regular skin contact with? any reason that it would be a bad idea really.
or like. if any other sweaty folk have tried this what were the results?
#hyperhidrosis#clothing care questions#DIY questions#i hate my life. my mom paid the $17 for the drysol medicaid wouldn’t cover so i don’t have an excuse not to go up north#despite up north sounding extra physically taxing on me this year with additional sensory overload due to the precarious plumbing situation#like man my heat intolerant hypertonic pelvic floor ass cannot shit in only a portapotty for 10 days and be well#i am gonna have to throw on a bathing suit to go out there like every time so i dont drench non-waterproof clothing in sweat#and the swimwear gets. somewhat of a wash in the water. dunno what imma do bout the pissy juice i only got 3 bathing suits that fit#and only 7 comfy pairs of underwear that are summer appropriate and comfy :/#for a 10 day trip no laundry capabilities idek if they have a laundromat within half an hours’ drive#not that i’ll have my car i will be getting basically kidnapped by my parents which nice no paying for gas! but also.#horrifying. i can’t leave… not even to find a laundromat. hopefully my cousins’ bnb has a washer and they give me a ride over to use it#bc also my shirts… my shirts get so sweaty… i can’f rewear my shirts unless i only wore them for like an hour…#sigh. i digress. i will not be trying this experiment until after if at all bc apparently we leave on thursday x.x#*PUSSY juice omfg

Does anyone know if there's a connection between connective tissue disorders and hyperhidrosis?
I have pretty severe hyperhidrosis on the palms of my hands and my occupational therapist had interesting theory on how it might be caused by my connective tissue disorder and now i'm curious to see if anyone has similar experiences

no one really understands how much hyperhidrosis sucks. the insecurity of growing up with it, wearing boots and shoes all around the year. the stinky socks and shoes because of all the moisture. wearing black clothes and wiping your hands on your pants. drenched papers and sticky keyboards. the fear of working or dating because of the shame. friends being disgusted of touching or holding your hands but you just have to laugh it away.
