seriously, though. i work in higher education, and part of my job is students sending me transcripts. you'd think the ones who have the least idea how to actually do that would be the older ones, and while sure, they definitely struggle with it, i see it most with the younger students. the teens to early 20s crowd.
very, astonishingly often, they don't know how to work with .pdf documents. i get garbage phone screenshots, sometimes inserted into an excel or word file for who knows what reason, but most often it's just a raw .jpg or other image file.
they definitely either don't know how to use a scanner, don't have access to one, or don't even know where they might go for that (staples and other office supply stores sometimes still have these services, but public libraries always have your back, kids.) so when they have a paper transcript and need to send me a copy electronically, it's just terrible photos at bad angles full of thumbs and text-obscuring shadows.
mind bogglingly frequently, i get cell phone photos of computer screens. they don't know how to take a screenshot on a computer. they don't know the function of the Print Screen button on the keyboard. they don't know how to right click a web page, hit "print", and choose "save as PDF" to produce a full and unbroken capture of the entirety of a webpage.
sometimes they'll just copy the text of a transcript and paste it right into the message of an email. that's if they figure out the difference between the body text portion of the email and the subject line, because quite frankly they often don't.
these are people who in most cases have done at least some college work already, but they have absolutely no clue how to utilize the attachment function in an email, and for some reason they don't consider they could google very quickly for instructions or even videos.
i am not taking a shit on gen z/gen alpha here, i'm really not.
what i am is aghast that they've been so massively failed on so many levels. the education system assumed they were "native" to technology and needed to be taught nothing. their parents assumed the same, or assumed the schools would teach them, or don't know how themselves and are too intimidated to figure it out and teach their kids these skills at home.
they spend hours a day on instagram and tiktok and youtube and etc, so they surely know (this is ridiculous to assume!!!) how to draft a formal email and format the text and what part goes where and what all those damn little symbols means, right? SURELY they're already familiar with every file type under the sun and know how to make use of whatever's salient in a pinch, right???
THEY MUST CERTAINLY know, innately, as one knows how to inhale, how to type in business formatting and formal communication style, how to present themselves in a way that gets them taken seriously by formal institutions, how to appear and be competent in basic/standard digital skills. SURELY. Of course. RIGHT!!!!
it's MADDENING, it's insane, and it's frustrating from the receiving end, but even more frustrating knowing they're stumbling blind out there in the digital spaces of grown-up matters, being dismissed, being considered less intelligent, being talked down to, because every adult and system responsible for them just
ASSUMED they should "just know" or "just figure out" these important things no one ever bothered to teach them, or half the time even introduce the concepts of before asking them to do it, on the spot, with high educational or professional stakes.
kids shouldn't have to supplement their own education like this and get sneered and scoffed at if they don't.

AUTHOR'S NOTE: This one was a popular request! While not one of my favorite yandads, I really did enjoy writing a scenario like this, probably one of my more unique ones so far! It all happened so very quickly; one moment, you're just scrolling through your phone with your headphones in and listening to music, occasionally glancing outside of the plane's window to admire the view of the forestry below you.
The next thing you know, there's an explosion coming from the airplane engine. Everything starts shaking rapidly, people screaming as they quickly put on their seatbelts and look for oxygen masks—yourself included.
However, it is no use. The airplane makes a loud nose-dive towards the ground, and before you could even process what was happening, everything goes black.
...
You feel like death warmed over.
When you awake, there is an immediate burning sensation that fills your entire body, particularly your left arm. It feels broken. In fact, all of you feels broken. You feel as if your body has been run over by several trucks. Your face is throbbing.
What the hell happened?
You manage to lift your head. There's blood and bodies everywhere, some of the blood is definitely your own. No one else seems awake, or even alive.
There are small fires surrounding you that provide light in the dark forest. One wing of the plane was blown completely off, but it looks like you're still close to where most of the plane is gathered.
Even if it hurts like hell, you manage to somehow get up on your own two feet.
With the little amount of strength you have, you stumble out of the plane and collapse on the dirt floor outside of the area.
You are panting heavily, looking around at your surroundings. Your entire body screams with agony, every time you breathe, you're inhaling ash.
Despite having just woken up, you already feel yourself about to pass out again from the pain. You stumble as far away as you can from the plane, looking for any other survivors. Surely it can't just be you, right?
Wrong.
No matter how much you look, you don't see anyone even close to being conscious. Not one.
That's when it hits you like a bus—you're going to die.
You fall to your knees, clutching your chest in terror. All that you were able to process before the crash happened was the explosion. Now, all you know is that you're stranded, possibly hundreds of miles away from any sort of civilization.
What makes it worse is the fact that your arm is probably broken, meaning that there is no way for you to defend yourself from anything that lurks in this godforsaken place.
But knowing how doomed you are, is there really any use in that, anyway?
No... The best option would just be to curl into a ball and give up on life right here, right now. You lay on the grass, clutching one of your many wounds, shutting your eyes.
The sound of footsteps and horses galloping makes them snap back open.
Your head immediately whips to where the source of the sound is coming from. Your first thought is other survivors of the crash who woke up the same way you did.
That idea is crushed, however, when you look closer only to find that these people are clothed weirdly—in odd dark green robes with some kind of golden symbol engraved on it.
It doesn't take a genius to realize that these people aren't survivors like yourself.
These people must've been waiting for someone in this forest.
And even if their faces are hidden beneath the cloak, you know their eyes are all glued to you.
Your blood turns ice cold. You try to stand back up, but the searing pain prevents you from doing so, which only results in you falling down to the grass again.
Now, you regret not giving up on life earlier.
These people are getting closer, making a circle around your bloody state.
"Look, Father!" One of them speaks. Their voice is muffled behind the hood over his mouth. "I told you! We heard an explosion nearby!"
Father?
All of a sudden, a taller figure emerges from the group. His attire is slightly different than the rest—the robe appears lighter colored with more intricate designs on it.
He lifts his hood off of his head, revealing a man in his mid to late-forties staring down at you with a grin on his face. He has long blond hair tied in a low ponytail and green eyes that glow in the light of the flames from the crashed plane.
The man's expression turns from neutral to glee. "My dream was correct!" he cheers, causing everyone else surrounding him to do the same. "The Gods have blessed me with a child!"
A what now? You try crawling backwards away from them, shaking your head frantically. You attempt to open your mouth to say something, anything, but your vocal cords don't seem to be working after screaming bloody murder during the crash. Instead, your thoughts come out as coughs from smoke inhalation.
"Oh, my baby," he croons, kneeling beside your injured body. "Don't be afraid, little one. Papa's here now."
"They're injured, Father Lux," one of them states the obvious.
Despite that being obvious from one glance, it seems this man, Lux, was too happy to even realize until it was pointed out. His expression turns concerned, looking over your tattered self.
You try backing up from him again, but a few cultists gather around behind you so that you have nowhere to escape to.
"Poor thing, you must've been so scared." He tuts, grabbing you by your intact arm gently, examining all of your wounds. "Those burns are going to need treatment. And..." His hand hovers over your broken limb. "This will certainly need medical attention as well."
"Should we carry them back?" another follower asks.
He thinks about it. "I'll bring them on my horse back to camp. Opal, you follow, just in case." She nods. "The rest of you salvage the airplane for any useful parts."
"And if there's other survivors?" one of them asks.
Lux smiles eerily, shooting a glare in the direction of the plane.
"There are none," he tells them firmly. "But if there are, put them out of their misery quickly. They were not in the prophecy." His eyes turn to you, softening immensely. "Let us get you somewhere safe and sound, shall we?" He kisses your bloody forehead. "Welcome home, little one."
Without another word, he scoops you into his arms and carries you bridal-style towards his tan horse. The entire time, he coos at you sweetly.
It's a miracle you've even stayed conscious for so long. Finally, you black out with Lux stroking your face with his fingers as your head rests against his chest.
...
You wake up yet again feeling like death itself.
Although this time, instead of the sounds of screams filling the air, it's replaced by silence accompanied by chirping birds and crickets outside. The burning hot sensation still remains on your skin, but it has decreased significantly from earlier. Your body is covered in bandages all over, and your arm is now in a secure cast.
Even better, you're no longer laying down on grass or dirt, but rather on a comfortable mattress. As your vision becomes less fuzzy, you can see that the room around you isn't familiar either—it's furnished with various paintings and candles.
It's very clean.
You also find that your outfit has changed—you're no longer wearing your bloodied clothes, but rather an oversized cloak similar to the one Lux was wearing.
At this realization, memories of last night's events flood into your mind.
Oh, no. The airplane, the crash, the green robed-cult people—
You notice that your throat is dry. There's a glass of water placed nearby. Despite how painful it is to lift your arm, you muster enough strength to sip the glass and hydrate yourself.
As soon as you place the cup down, however, a new figure enters the room through the door. One you recognize.
"There you are, my baby." The tall man from before approaches you. He's not wearing his cloak this time, but what resembles more of a surcoat. "How was your nap?"
You swallow your own spit in attempt to soothe your dry throat. "What is going on?" is all you can rasp.
"Aww," he coos, walking closer and sitting at your bedside. He strokes your cheek with the tip of his index finger. "Don't you remember, little one? Your airplane crashed last night, and you were nearly torn to shreds."
Torn to shreds is quite the exaggeration, but okay.
"Okay, but," you practically cough out, "who are you? Where am I?"
Lux chuckles. "Everyone here calls me Father Lux, as I am the founder and prophet of this society." His smile grows wider. "As for who I am to you, that would be 'Papa.'"
"I... I have no idea what you mean," you state honestly.
He keeps that smile that you could only describe as eerie. "Despite my followers calling me 'Father', I never viewed them as my actual children. I always longed for a child of my own. Every night, I prayed to the Gods for one. So imagine my surprise when they informed me in a dream of your arrival. When you would come falling from the skies!" He places a kiss on your head. "Oh, I am so very grateful. Even if it weren't in the prophecy, I would have adopted you on the spot regardless, sweetheart. But alas, destiny spoke and gave you to me." He holds both of your hands in his with a loving stare.
You pull away from him immediately, hissing from the pain of your burns and broken bones as a result. "I'm not your child!" you cry out.
Lux's cheerful expression suddenly morphs into a firm scowl. "That wasn't very nice," he says sternly.
"You don't understand," you croak. "I need to get home. Please."
"Honey..." he places a hand on your cheek. "Home is where I am."
Your heart sinks. This guy is insane, you conclude.
And unfortunately for you, insane people aren't exactly reasonable.
Still, you try. "I'm not even a child! Look at me, I'm an adult!"
He just coos at you. "The outside world really corrupted you, didn't it? They fail to acknowledge not all adults are fully developed mentally. And when it is acknowledged, its only to bring shame." Lux shakes his head disapprovingly. "Little ones should not be ostracized in society. Everyone develops at their own pace. Some will mature slower than others. There's no harm in embracing being younger than you are."
You shake your head back and forth. "This is absurd," you tell him desperately.
"Even if I were to let you go, where would you go to?" he asks.
A lump forms in your throat. That's a good question, actually. You have absolutely no idea where you're currently located or how to get anywhere from here.
"Let me tell you something," Lux continues. "We're in dense mountains, deep within forests and surrounded by animals who won't hesitate to devour you alive in an instant. Not to mention, the nearest civilization from here is miles away. I know, because that's the exact reason I chose this place." He strokes your cheek, looking at you with faux concern. "So why don't you take a second to rethink your options here?"
There's a tight knot forming in your chest.
He's right. You literally have no other choice but to stay here.
"What does this cult even believe in?" you challenge, but there's no more anger to your tone. Primarily defeat.
"Cult?" Lux tilts his head to the side. "Oh, silly, this is not a 'cult.' A cult implies we are some sort of strange, extremist religion."
You furrow your eyebrows.
"This," he motions his hands in the air, "is simply a sanctuary. A community." Lux pauses to look down at you. "As for our beliefs, well, everyone is free to believe their own thing, because everyone has a different interpretation of the Gods."
"Then what's your point in being here?" you ask, exasperated.
"Well, there's something we do all collectively believe in. Peace, love, acceptance." He brushes a strand of your hair behind your ear. "Something that you, little one, are very unfamiliar with. I'm here to help everyone else—including you—to escape from all that chaos and destruction."
"From the sounds of it, you're just making yourself out to be a god, talking about dreams and prophecies," you retort. "It seems all these people believe you."
Lux nods. "I suppose that's another thing all my followers can agree on; I'm simply a messenger, someone chosen to lead them in the right direction. But I am no God, sweetheart." He kisses your forehead once more. "Just a vessel of sorts."
You want to tell him he's insane. That this entire place is a complete madhouse.
However, that doesn't seem like the greatest idea at this point. For all you know, this man may be capable of things far worse than death.
Not that you'd have much of an option, anyway. All you can do is sit in this bed as your wounds heal painfully slowly.
"Listen, sweetheart," he whispers. "I promise, you're going to love it here. There are many others your age for you to play with. Here, you don't have to worry about a single thing in life aside from living, breathing, and being loved every moment."
You gulp at that.
"But you don't even know me," you whisper back shakily. "None of you know me."
"On the contrary," he argues. "While you rested, I asked some of my followers to gather identification documents of other victims to bury along with their bodies." Lux pulls out a piece of paper that turns out to be your ID card. "(Y/n) (L/n)," he reads, grinning. "Though, now I suppose that'd be (Y/n) Sampson. My surname, if you weren't aware. It's your surname now as well."
All of a sudden, tears begin pricking your eyes. You can't even wipe them with your injured arm.
Lux quickly uses his own thumbs to brush them away from your cheeks.
"It'll be okay," he coos, pulling your fragile self into an embrace. "You're going to thrive here. I'll make sure of it."
If anything is true, it's that you definitely won't be thriving. Or keeping your sanity, for that matter.
...
For the first few weeks, you remain bedridden, with only minimal ability to walk around due to your injuries.
The house you both reside in is bigger than all the other's houses, you assume. It's a cabin-style cottage made of logs. It appears to have several bedrooms and other amenities such as running water.
Yet no phones, televisions, radios—basically anything related to communicating with the outside world. No form of entertainment.
Well, there's Lux, but you'd hardly call him entertaining.
On the plus side, the area surrounding this small commune is incredibly gorgeous.
There's an endless array of forestry, hills, mountains, and wildlife. There are even certain areas where wildflowers grow. And that isn't to mention the incredible views of sunrises and sunsets every day, even if only outside of your window.
Sure, most of the time, the scenery is blocked by high trees. But it's better than nothing.
Occasionally, Lux will allow you to step outside the house with him and accompany him in strolls around the perimeter.
Today is one of those days.
"This is the best part of living out here, if you ask me," he tells you as the two of you stroll through the gardens. "Look around, angel. Beautiful flowers bloom everywhere, every single day. Gods truly are magnificent beings. You can see their artistry shining through everything." His hand finds yours, locking together.
The only thing that prevents you from recoiling from the touch is the fact that you know it's a losing battle.
Since that fateful night, you've learned quite a lot about this place.
Firstly, you have a bedtime that cannot be broken for any reason whatsoever.
Secondly, Lux does indeed consider himself your father, but gets upset if you do call him "Father". That's something only for his followers, as he genuinely believes you are more than that—his actual kid. Or "baby" as he prefers to refer to you as sometimes.
Lastly, there is absolutely no way of escaping. You're hundreds of miles away from anything remotely close to civilization, and even then, Lux has eyes practically everywhere, making sneaking off impossible. Especially when everyone in the entire village is in constant awe and praise towards you.
There's no doubt in your mind that anyone would snitch on you immediately should they spot you trying to make a run for it.
So in short, you're stuck here until your untimely demise.
"Why are you so quiet, sunshine?" Lux suddenly asks.
His voice snaps you from your thoughts. You blink a few times.
"I'm thinking," you shrug.
"Mhm." Lux hums disbelievingly. "About what?"
"About my family and friends who must be worried about me." It's the only thing you have been thinking about lately. "They probably think I'm dead." Just like everyone else.
Lux drags out a long sigh. "Good. Let them think that."
Ouch.
"Do you not understand?" He stops in place. "You and I were destined to meet. It was fate that brought you into my arms that night. All of it happened for a reason." He cups your face in his large palms, tilting your head up to look into his green eyes. "Do you really think its a coincidence that not only did you survive a plane crash where most died, but that it had to crash in these mountains? In this location of all places?" He clicks his tongue. "Nothing happens unintentionally."
You narrow your eyes at him, ready to give him a snarky remark in response, but think about his words. "'Most'? So you're saying some did?"
"Hm?"
"You said most died."
He stiffens momentarily, almost as if debating on telling you the truth. "Some did live after the fall," he admits eventually. "Not everyone, of course. Only a few. But they were in pain. Too much pain that could be helped. The medic only has so many supplies, all that should be used on you."
You freeze, giving him a wide-eyed gaze.
"Lux," you barely choke out the name, "are you saying that you killed them? When they were still alive?"
"'Papa'," he corrects. "And it was mercy kills. It was better this way, honey. Imagine having survived an airplane crash, but in agony with limited medical care."
"So if I weren't in your stupid prophecy, you would've killed me too?"
"No." Lux says it with absolute certainty. "Whether you were or weren't, you would be right here, with me." He presses a kiss to your temple. "Even when they are dead, the outside world still wishes to tear our bond... now no more talk of that dreadful place and situation. We're supposed to be enjoying this beautiful evening together."
...
More days pass, though you aren't sure how many. It feels like its been forever, but its likely only been three weeks at most.
Either way, you miss the outside world. A lot. Never did you think you'd be saying that.
You miss your family. Your friends. Technology. Entertainment.
But alas, none of that can happen out here, in this stupid mountain cult society with their insane leader.
Their insane leader that wants to adopt you as his own child, apparently.
You're allowed to go outside more often now, but he always appoints someone to watch over you and supervise every move you make. After all, you're supposedly the equivalent of a toddler, so you need constant supervision. Like toddlers often do.
The people your age or older get to choose if they still wish to be treated as children or like adults. You don't mind that, but you wish you got the same option of choice they did. You're often forced to play with them outside.
From the looks of it, it'll be hard to escape. Not only are you doomed from a geographical standpoint, but there are always guards, even at nighttime.
Yet perhaps luck will be on your side. Maybe if you get out of here, you can find the crash site. All planes have some kind of way to track them, right? Maybe they are looking for you. You know they'll likely assume you're dead if they don't find you at the wreckage.
Even then, its not like you're on an island. Maybe you'll find hikers, or someone who isn't insane who lives here.
You decide its worth trying only after you're more physically healed.
"Stargazing?" Lux asks you suddenly.
He's standing nearby on the porch of your shared cottage home, sipping some hot beverage. Probably tea. Its chilly, and there's a blanket wrapped around his shoulders.
You nod wordlessly. You have to admit that its probably prettier than the view back where you live. Less smog and air pollution blocking everything.
Lux smiles, putting his cup down to join you. He wraps one arm around you to keep you close.
"These mountains provide us with such peace," he states. "Away from cities and towns full of chaos, where we can bask in nature without the stresses of society plaguing us. I think you're already healing because of it."
"Healing," you echo bitterly.
"Indeed." He tilts his head upwards towards the starry sky. "Isn't this so much better than looking at your phone? Than hearing traffic noises at ungodly hours of the night? No stressful paperwork, no worries about working nine to five just to have a roof over your head or decent living conditions?"
You want to disagree, but you can't. Because technically, he isn't wrong. It is nice. Even if you'd prefer your other life to this.
But maybe you can change the topic to something useful.
"Do hikers come by a lot? Or outsiders, in general?" you ask.
He shakes his head. "I know what you're thinking. And no, sorry to disappoint you. The last outsider we had was about two or so years ago."
You grimace, looking down at the dirt.
"Your home is here," Lux continues, kissing your temple. "You have no responsibilities here. You can play all the games you want, make all the friends you desire, enjoy the beauty of the outdoors every morning until nightfall. And most importantly, you're safe, cherished, and adored. How could you ever wish for anything else? Do you think you have a family out there that loves you more than I do?"
"You don't love me. Besides knowing my name, you don't know anything about me," you mutter.
Lux gives a light smile. "I've been urging you to tell me more about myself, it isn't my fault you little ones are so stubborn; but I don't need to know everything about you to know that this is what you need. Here, you have a warm bed to sleep on every night. Plenty of food to eat. Fresh, clean air, a caring father, and lots of friends."
"I don't even know them," you reply curtly.
"You will in due time." Lux runs his hand up and down your back comfortingly. "You shouldn't think so much. Leave those matters to me, all right?"
...
Its been about a month and a half when you're feeling much better physically.
Mentally, well... you'd rather not think about that.
Every few days, the cult has some kind of celebration. Everyone is singing, dancing, eating, laughing. There are bonfires, flower arrangements, all of it.
You never participate, despite all the coaxing. But given you plan to escape tonight, you might as well. Maybe you can give Lux the false notion that you're beginning to enjoy it here.
Then, when everyone is having a good time, you can just slip away and pray the guards are too distracted to notice you.
As soon as Lux sees you shuffle outside to the event, he lights up.
"(Y/n)!" he exclaims happily. He's wearing a much more bright robe, as the rest of the people are, as well as a flower crown out of sunflowers resting upon his head. He takes a glass of grape juice and offers it to you, which you accept.
"How lovely it is to see you joining us!" he continues.
"Just felt like being social today," you lie with a shrug.
He claps his hands together giddily. "Oh! I knew you would adjust!" Lux brings you into an unexpected embrace that crushes your bones.
You force yourself not to wince or recoil, and instead lightly hug back.
Lux proudly shows you off to everyone. They all greet you excitedly. You respond, though with far less enthusiasm. The entire time, your eyes scan every inch of the area, trying to find out the best route to run away through, and where all the guards are located.
At some point, you don't even feel as if you're faking your enjoyment.
Everyone is so eager to hear what you have to say, and the food is delicious. You even end up wearing one of the flower crowns one of the other little ones (as they are referred to by Lux), put on your head.
Unfortunately, before you can even slip away from everyone, you end up exhausted, plopping yourself onto Lux's lap while he eats by one of the bonfires.
He seems shocked at this, and you are as well by your own actions, but he wraps his strong arms around you and pulls you closer to his chest.
"Oh, look how tired my sweet baby is," he coos. "Looks like it's past your bedtime."
Despite everything, you sigh contentedly and lean against him.
Maybe just this once is fine. After all, you haven't done this since you were actually a child. Plus, you're exhausted.
Tomorrow is another day, and this definitely isn't the last celebration they'll be having.
"It was so wonderful to see you smiling and laughing tonight," he tells you, brushing the hair out of your face. "And the other little ones were so happy to see you. I think you have the entire community wrapped around your finger." He boops your nose. "Including myself, of course."
"Is (Y/n) tired? I was gonna show them the kites we were making earlier today!" one of the littles exclaims to Lux.
He smiles. "Sorry, little one, it appears so. I think it's not far off from your bedtimes too." He helps you up, keeping a firm hand around you to support you and your sleepy state.
Once you get home, he tucks you in your bed, gently removing the flower crown to place on your nightstand.

Now that I think about it, the aliens probably didn’t teach the kids sex ed (since Till has no idea what a kiss even is)
Ivan does know what a kiss is, probably because he was more wealthy and had more access to information
Interesting how Sua is wearing Mizi’s outfit she wore in Round 1, so it must be pretty close to that round, but the tips of her hair aren’t blue, Mizi is also wearing a long, white gown, which could be Sua’s outfit without the puffy sleeves and bow
Is it an outfit swap? (like the scene in wiege)
Was Sua originally meant to wear Mizi’s clothes?
“The same number of toes, the same ten fingers, the same body heat, felt between breaths of equal heat.” Could be like Luka, counting his fingers to cope with the trauma and abuse he endured, or could be mizi finding comfort in familiarity and routine that doesn’t hurt her
“You’re adorable” “You always say that” Mizi probably knows about Sua’s deep rotted insecurities about her appearance thanks to her family and says it to maybe build her confidence?
‘You’re adorable’ also has some childish connotations, like ‘you’re cute’ - a thing you’d say to a dog or to a child, Mizi could be subtly getting some revenge for the way most people treat her in her life or is that the only way Mizi knows how to express her love based on the way people have treated her growing up
‘You always say that’ Sua doesn’t have that high of self esteem and doesn’t take the compliment as good because of how insecure she is, could also be that she believes or knows that Mizi doesn’t mean it?
Maybe she isn’t used to being complimented?
Sua looks either sad or content in my eyes
She’s blushing, she knows Mizi very well and has probably deduced why she’s being treated like this, but goes along with it because she wants to mean something to someone/make the person she loves happy

She felt crushed all throughout her life (hell, even her own MOTHER was crushed), inflicting her suffering onto someone else may feel her a lot better
The title of the comic is, ‘My fragile God, fading fast,’ Mizi sees Sua as her God, but also as someone she can crush in an instant, maybe a way to feel that she can gain power and have agency in a hopeless world run by aliens
Fragile can also be replaced by the word adorable - “My adorable God, fading fast”
Maybe she sees herself as a demon for ‘ruining’ a god (MaDOka MAgiCa ReFereNCE!?)
Fading fast could refer to the fact that she’s dead or not that perfect??? (but Mizi already knew that so I’m not sure what this could mean)

Been wondering this for a while, but does Mizi actually need glasses? Maybe her eyesight got bad later on, maybe she uses it to hide her facial expression, maybe her guardians thought it looked cute on her, or maybe she wears contacts?

At first, comments like “She’s so adorable!” show how much they love and accept their new daughter, but later on, it becomes apparent that they only see her as a toy/pet, not actually caring for her wellbeing
“Careful at the touch, so she doesn’t burst” - Could the reason her guardians treat her the way they do is because they don’t want her to end up ‘crushed’ like her mother?
She uses the word adorable on Sua as well, implying that she sees her this way as well. I don’t think that’s true and is only pretending to do that to feel powerful and have agency
Maybe she uses the word adorable to get Sua into her shoes and make her more empathetic of her situation and understand her more instead of ‘trying to protect her innocence’
Mizi grew up learning that ‘love’ means endless praise, worship and compliments, which could be why Mizi calls Sua her god

“I want to live a little long, so please keep loving me” The reason she’s so obsessed with Sua, perhaps? Because she loves her and it makes her existence feel validating (if I can’t love myself, I’ll at least have someone to do it for me, type mentality?)
Though, her way of wanting people to love her isn’t generalistic, as she’s not a fan of Till’s love for her or the Blonde guy in ‘The True Face,’ could be either because they’re both guys, which Mizi isn’t attracted to, or because she feel forced to act a certain way to get their love and approval, meanwhile, with Sua, she can act almost anyway she wants and Sua wouldn’t mind (and sometimes be lowkey into it)

If Shine was a normal human, with normal kids, she will DEFINITELY let the internet raise her child instead of doing it herself, and then wonder why her ipad kid never wants to talk to her anymore, doesn’t have any friends, is addicted to the screen and is lazy
The point is, they couldn’t be bothered raising a child that was slightly inconvenient, so they sealed her away in a bubble (kinda reminds me of the bubbles in Round 1 ‘My Clematis’)
Her guardian is berating Mizi for mistaking another sea creature as food… but it’s pretty obvious who’s eating who here, they really don’t pay attention to her
No wonder Mizi slapped Sua in ‘The True Face’ comic, I’d be pissed too
Every child deserves a parent, but not every parent deserves a child… they couldn’t be bothered in taking the time in removing her hair in a safe and harmless way that doesn’t hurt her, either that, or they don’t understand how fragile children are and treat them like dolls: Could be a mix of both
To Mizi, being called adorable or cute is infantilizing, the person calling you that thinks you’re weak, someone so fragile that they could break at any instant
Slightly unrelated: But does this mean that Mizi canonically has a bald spot?
At first, the ocean was a vibrant pink, but then, as time passed on, it took on a more realistic colour that accurately reflects the feeling of the deep ocean, an dark, empty space with barely any lights

The hand placement on Sua’s arm is the same placement Mizi has on her arm in the next panel - was that Sua’s way of comforting herself? is Mizi trying to do that with her? am I reading into much into this?

She sees Sua, alone and suffocated just like her and forms a bond over that, she feels seen, not alone, someone she can finally relate to and understand her
Maybe Mizi feeling like she can ‘crush’ Sua at any moment reflects how she views herself or a way to relive and try to understand her trauma better
Or maybe a way for her to feel like she has power and authority and agency in a life were she is constantly oppressed by the aliens, and even the people around her
But, deep, deep down inside, what Mizi truly wants is for someone to love her, not because of her looks or that she appears fragile, but because of her as a person, to be treated and loved as a human being, flaws and all

She means what she says when she compliments Sua, but probably doesn’t like the word due to how it was used to her when growing up
Now that I think about it, how does Mizi know what a kiss is but Till doesn’t? I feel like their ‘families’ are both either middle or upper class and have access to good education, maybe Till’s guardian was never bothered to teach him things he as ‘useless’ or that didn’t contribute in making Till grow as a singer, maybe Till wasn’t interested in learning such things (he doesn’t even know how to flip someone off properly smh)

In regards to King's mistreatment of Lancer... (+ perspectives on how dark worlds work based on who makes the dark fountain)
I've seen a few people on here talk about how it feels like King's neglect (and possible abuse) of Lancer seems to be getting swept under the rug, and I wanna add something to the conversation that I haven't seen a lot of people mention.
First off, no, I am NOT going to be trying to justify King's actions. Quite the opposite, in fact!
I WILL be talking about chapters three and four below the cut, so be warned!
Ralsei mentions something about how Lighteners can be sort of "reborn" in dark worlds, but only if the memory of the deceased is strong and vivid enough in the mind of the Dark Fountain creator.
(This immediately made me think that Alvin was the one to open the Dark Fountain in the church, but that's not what this post is about.)
Because of this, I belive that whoever opens the Dark Fountain has a heavy impact on the Dark World, which is backed by how Susie's Dark World was different from whoever made it before she did, down to the colors and everything.
(Which, by the way, everything being flipped in Susie's Dark World could be symbolic for Kris' and Susie's different goals? Seeing as Kris is trying to keep both us and Susie out of the Shelter and we're trying to get in.)
So, if the creator has a heavy impact on the Dark World, what does this mean for King and Lancer?
Well! If you remember Tenna's words, apparently King, Queen, and Tenna were all in possession of the Holidays and the Dreemurrs once, with them playing with the cards and laptop, maybe while watching TV?
So, if King, Queen, and Tenna were all influenced by being around the two families for so long, it means that they could have seen the downfall and splitting of the two families.
King: represents neglect (emotional and physical), with not caring what Lancer is up to and not bothering to make sure he eats, leaving Roulxs to feed him worms and three glasses of milk for dinner.
This COULD be mirroring how either Kris or Noelle didn't feel cared for enough, especially Kris during their parents' divorce and Asriel leaving for collage, I can see them feeling neglected and abandoned.
As for Noelle? She prefers to stand outside her house's gate rather than bother her mom at work. Sure, being the mayor is important, but Carol already lost one child, what has she done to cause Noelle to prefer standing outside for hours instead of asking for the gate key? (My theory is emotional abuse or emotional neglect. "I shouldn't bother mom at work, she's doing important things and I can stand outside for a while" even when your mother is supposed to be one of the two people you should be able to rely on as a kid to keep you safe and warm.)
Queen: represents forcing a kid to do something you yourself believe will help them, without asking for their input. She tries forcing Noelle to open another Dark Fountain, believing that it is what SHE wants, believing it's what will make Noelle happy, even when Queen herself had never asked Noelle herself what she wanted.
I don't currently have any ideas on what this could mean for Noelle (besides imagining that it's similar to what's happening between Carol and Noelle), but I DO have an idea for how it could relate to Kris.
As we saw in chapter four, Kris and Carol are working together, presumably with the Knight. I believe that one, Kris had a hand in Dess' dissappearence, and two, Carol is trying to being Dess back via the Knight (what with how powerful they're said to be, and how similar the Knight is to Dess) and is manipulating Kris into helping her with that.
(This is probably due to grief. Not saying it's okay, of course! Kris is a kid! I'm merely explaining what could be happening, regardless of if it's right or not.)
As I've seen other people theorize, Kris could have possibly gotten their knife from Carol, hinting that the two were super close before everything. If Kris DID have something to do with Dess' dissappearence, then I could imagine them running to Carol and explaining everything, and Carol, in turn, made them promise to her that they'd do everything in their power to get Dess back. Possibly believing that doing so will absolve Kris of their guilt?
Tenna: represents the fallout of everything. The distractions kids use to ignore their surroundings, though no matter how bright the screen is, no matter how loud the volume is, it can never fully drown out the dread of KNOWING there's another fight happening.
This applies mainly to Kris; just pay attention to Tenna's dialog during the third board(?), it's pretty obvious.
Maybe it applies to Noelle as well, but I can't think of anything at the moment.
All in all, this doesn't excuse anyone's actions, of course it doesn't. But it could shed some light on the story, on what's going on in the world of Deltarune.
I believe that all of this is building up to something huge, something that deals with parental neglect and abuse, and the Dark World bosses are simply a reflection of that abuse. I don't think Toby would just ignore that, especially since it's such a big theme.

Feeling content with my finds, that Simon insisted I won't be paying him back for, we three settle at a small eatery for some late lunch.
"13, stop pouting. You have no reason to pay me back."
"You just bought me an entire wardrobe and further nesting supplies," I frown at him. "Why would I not want to pay you back?"
"Because I'm meant to be your alpha," he says firmly then takes a sip of water. "This is part of taking care of you, my omega."
The omega in my mind jumps for joy at the idea of 'being taken care of', but my frown turns to a glare. Johnny shifts uncomfortably at the table and clears his throat.
"May I... offer a potential compromise?" Johnny says a bit nervoulsy.
Simon looks at him, almost glaring, and I turn to him with a curious expression.
"Ah, don't look at me like that, Si! The woman's clearly the independent type! Give her a chance to repay you, but," he turns to me, "not financially. Sounds weird, I know, but let me finish," he adds in a rush, holding up his hands. "In order to do this, though, 13 would need to either be mated to Simon or wear something that symbolizes Simon. Would you... are you prepared to be mated yet, or would you rather wear something that visibly marks you as Simon's... intended?"
As soon as Johnny says the word 'mated' I glare at him too. What the hell is he on about? I barely know Simon! I agreed to this to get to the bottom of whatever Salvation is up to! And, for fuck's sake, I've never even-
"Now, lass, I can see the rage igniting in you and I want to specify that both are meant as safety precautions. To keep you safe to repay this debt you seem to believe you're in. It could be either, or. Whatever is most comfortable for you and Si." Johnny pauses, glancing at Simon before continuing. "Have 13 get a job, go to school, something to occupy her time - especially for when we're off on missions - so she's not sitting an constantly feeling like she could be doing something, anything to say 'thank you' for what you did for her today.
"I will say, I agree with Si," Johnny says to me again, with a soft smile. "This is just part of what it means to be an alpha with an omega. Especially when they first arrive in our lives. He's doing these things because this is part of... whatever agreement you two have going. But if it would help you rest easier, find something that will keep you busy and feeling indenpendent."
With that, Johnny shrugs and gestures to Simon and I. The two of us turn to each other. It's... not a terrible idea, really. Feeling like I'm doing something to contribute would help me with this, I'm sure. At this point it's a matter of what I would do, what safety precautions we'd take, and if Simon is comfortable with this.
He doesn't look overly pleased, though.
"I already feel like I own you a lot for you getting me out of there, Simon," I say softly. "Let me contribute in some way, let me find something to keep me busy. Especially while we're solidifying whatever goals or plans we have regarding our situation. Please."
Simon's expression softens as I speak and he lets out a small sigh by time I finish speaking.
"Alright," he agrees quietly. "I don't like that you feel you owe me any kind of debt, but alright. If it'll help you feel better and less stressed, then yes."
The smile that lights up my face has Johnny chuckling and Simon turning away for a moment. Our food is delivered shortly after and we eat while enjoying lighter conversation for the meal. Johnny asks me about my hobbies and Simon seems to just absorb the information, just listening to us.
By time Simon and I get back to his car I feel like I need a nap.
"Tired?" Simon asks quietly once the car's in motion. I nod as my eyes fall closed. "I can take the long way home. Take a nap."
I don't respond in anyway besides doing exactly as he says.

"She's just got an infinite imagination, Ricky," she says softly.
She's terrified.
"She's insane, Opal! Look at her! She's talking to thin air!" He shouts and gestures wildly in my direction. "She's worse than you."
Maybe... maybe I am crazy? But...
"I'm talking to-"

"13?" Simon's gentle voice pulls me from the dream. "13, we're home."
My eyes open but I don't move otherwise.
"Alright?"
"I... don't know? Had a weird dream. Haven't had a dream in a long time to begin with but..." I trail off and sit up to look up at the bay window in the living room.
Selene is seated there, staring directly at me. When our eyes meet, she blinks slowly before jumping to the floor.
"Do you want to talk about it?"
I shake my head quickly and make my way out of the car. I'm not even sure if that was truly a dream.
Or a memory from my childhood. If it was... how am I supposed to explain to Simon what I possibly remembered? How would he take it? Would he call me crazy too?
It's best to keep it to myself.
After we get everything in from the car, I begin removing tags from clothing so I can wash them. Selene circles my ankles, making sure to move if I shift in any direction, as I work. Simon shows me how to use the washer and, when it's time, the dryer.
"Did they put you through school in Salvation? You said you were 13 when..." he trails off, not meeting my eyes as we settle in the kitchen so he can start dinner.
"In a way. I don't think I have a diploma or anything like that, though."
He nods, accepting my answer, and we both fall into thoughtful silence.
"What... are we going to do about..." I trail off, unsure how to ask my question. "My heat. I know I'm due for one soon, but I haven't had one outside of Salvation's carefully constructed precautions in a long time. I had a few before being sent off to them, but..."
I begin fidgeting with the shirt he gave me for the day, avoiding looking at him from my seat on the counter near him.
"I suppose I should first ask what the hell our plan is," I laugh nervously. "Are we actually going to exist as alpha and omega, mated? Or will you just have me wear something that marks me as yours until we can decide what to-"
"13," Simon says calmly, cutting me off as he chops up some vegtable. "If you're not ready to talk about this, don't."
"But I'm due for a heat sooner as opposed to later and we need to figure out where I'll be locked up-"
The blade he's using stutters and slips over his fingers of the hand holding the vegtable still.
"Fuck!" he shouts and pulls his hand away from the food immediately.
"Are you ok?" I call after him as he darts down the hall to, I assume, his room then his bathroom.
All I hear in response is various curses and the sound of running water. Then, as I make my way down the hall to his room, I hear him moving things around.
"Simon?" I say softly, slowly stepping into his room.
He still doesn't respond, but I find him digging through a first aid kit one handed.
"Let me," I insist and start looking for supplies to clean up the cut and bandage it. "Now let me see."
Quietly, though he looks absolutely livid, he offers me his hand. I get to work, making sure stitches aren't necessary - thankfully, they aren't.
"What do you mean 'locked up'?" he asks through gritted teeth, eyes fixed on my hands disinfecting the cut on his knuckle.
"We're always put in special rooms meant to dampen smells and sounds," I explain quietly. "They called it heat containment. For our safety and others'. They'd send employees in, dressed so we couldn't recognize or smell them, to check on us and sedate us if necessary."
Simon's had begins to shake as I prepare the bandage but he stays quiet. Once the bandage is on and secure, he tucks the index finger of his uninjured hand under my chin to tilt my head up.
"I'm going to finish making us dinner," he says in a calmer voice than I expected. "You're going to curl up with Selene on the couch and watch tv while you wait. Tonight, you'll spend every second resting. Tomorrow, I'll make us a nice breakfast and we're going to have some visitors. All three of my closest friends, Johnny included. It'll be hard, and I apologize for that, but I need you to tell all four of us everything you can about what happened in Salvation's facilities. Alright?"
I nod slowly, frowning and confused.
"Alright, go get on the couch. I'm sure Selene will join you once you're settled. Want any of your blankets or pillows?"
My eyes drift to a throw blanket at the end of his bed for a moment, but I shake my head.
"I'll grab it and bring it once I clean up the mess in here," he assures me, seemingly having noticed where I looked.
Without another word, he gently with shaking hands, ushers me from the room.

Night One: The Summoning
You didn’t mean to summon a demon.
It was supposed to be a harmless curiosity—a strange, leather-bound book you found at the flea market, with pages so old they crumbled at the edges. You thought it was just another artifact of forgotten lore, something to flip through on a rainy evening when boredom clawed at your thoughts.
But the moment you traced your finger over the peculiar symbols and spoke the words aloud, the air in your room thickened. The temperature plummeted. Your breath came out in a misty wisp.
And then—
A gust of wind tore through your space, rattling the windowpanes. The dim glow of your bedside lamp flickered violently before shattering, plunging the room into near darkness. A faint, sulfuric scent curled in the air, followed by the low, almost amused chuckle of someone who definitely wasn’t there a second ago.
A figure emerged from the shadows.
Tall. Broad-shouldered. Dressed in all black, the fabric of his coat swaying like it was caught in an unseen breeze. His hair was the color of a burning ember, dark but catching the light just right. And his eyes—God, his eyes—glowed like molten gold, sharp and predatory as they locked onto yours.
“Well, well.” His voice was smooth, laced with something dangerously sweet. “I thought I had the night off.”
You stumble backward, your heart slamming against your ribs. “Who—who the hell are you?”
He tilts his head, looking you over like he finds your question amusing. Then, with an elegant flick of his fingers, a string of crimson energy crackles to life between them, curling like smoke.
“You summoned me, sweetheart. That means you already know the answer.”
Your breath catches.
Demon. He’s a demon.
And you—clumsy, curious, catastrophically unlucky you—had just called him into your bedroom.
For a long moment, neither of you speak.
You’re still pressed against the wall, staring at him like he might lunge at you any second, while he stands there, hands in his pockets, completely at ease—like materializing in someone’s bedroom is just another Tuesday night for him.
Finally, after a pause that stretches a little too long, he sighs.
“Okay, let’s make this easier,” he says, stepping closer, his molten eyes locked onto yours. “I’m Jake. Demon of contracts, second-class under Lucifer’s domain, and—at least for the next seven days—your personal servant.”
His lips curl at the last part, like he finds the idea amusing.
Your mouth opens, then closes. “Jake?”
He raises a brow. “What? Were you expecting something more dramatic? Like ‘Azazel the Devourer’ or ‘Lord of the Abyss’?”
“I don’t know,” you admit. “Jake just sounds so… human.”
He smirks. “Maybe that’s why you don’t seem as scared of me as you should be.”
You bristle at that. “I—I am scared.”
Jake leans in slightly, gaze flicking over your face, as if he can see straight through you. “No, you’re not.”
Your throat goes dry.
He grins.
Then, just as you’re about to retort, he shifts back. “Anyway. Since you didn’t actually read the summoning terms, let me break it down for you.”
Jake stretches, rolling his shoulders. “You get seven days. Seven wishes. Once those are fulfilled, I return to my realm, and this little contract is over.”
You cross your arms. “And what happens if I don’t make any wishes?”
His smirk deepens. “Then I stay here. With you. Forever.”
Your stomach drops.
Jake chuckles at your reaction, clearly enjoying himself. “Don’t worry, angel. You don’t have to wish for something crazy—just something. Otherwise, you’ll have me as a permanent roommate.”
“Great,” you mutter. “Because that’s exactly what I wanted—Satan’s little helper haunting my apartment.”
Jake laughs. “Oh, I like you.”
You huff, exasperated. “Fine. Since I have no choice in this, I guess I should introduce myself too.”
He tilts his head, waiting.
You sigh. “I’m . Fifth-semester biotechnology student, struggling to survive exams, caffeine addict, and now, apparently, an accidental demon summoner.”
Jake whistles, leaning against your desk. “Biotechnology, huh? So, what, you make potions?”
You snort. “It’s more about genetics, microbiology, and improving food production. Less ‘magic spells,’ more ‘science and suffering.’”
“Sounds boring,” he says.
You glare. “Sounds like you wouldn’t understand even if I explained it.”
Jake grins, leaning in. “Try me.”
His sudden proximity makes you stiffen. He’s close enough that you can smell him—a strange mix of something dark and intoxicating, like spice, smoke, and danger.
Your eyes flick to his lips before you snap back to reality, heat rushing to your face.
Jake notices.
And he smirks. That bastard.
You step back, clearing your throat. “Ahem. Let’s focus on the contract, shall we?”
Jake doesn’t move. If anything, he steps closer, his body heat pressing into you, golden eyes flickering with interest.
“You know, angel,” he murmurs, voice dropping just a little lower, just enough to send a shiver down your spine. “Most humans who summon demons want one of three things—power, money, or revenge. But you…”
He trails a single finger along your jaw, featherlight. “You don’t seem like the type.”
Your breath catches.
For a second, the air between you crackles.
Then, like nothing happened, he pulls back with a lazy smirk. “Guess I’ll just have to figure you out.”
You exhale sharply, heart pounding.
Oh, he is going to be a problem.
Eventually, after way too much teasing, you sigh, rubbing your temples. “Fine. If I have to make a wish, I’ll start with something simple.”
Jake raises a brow. “Oh? Something like wealth? Power? Eternal youth?”
You shake your head, a smirk tugging at your lips.
“I wish for a cup of hot chocolate.”
Jake stares at you.
Then—
“You’re serious?”
You nod.
For a moment, he just looks at you, as if he’s waiting for the punchline. Then he bursts out laughing—the sound rich, warm, and infuriatingly smug. He snaps his fingers. A steaming cup of cocoa appears in your hands, complete with tiny marshmallows.
But as you take a sip, Jake suddenly leans in behind you, his body brushing lightly against yours as he peers over your shoulder. “Is it good?”
You nearly drop the cup. “Jake—personal space!”
He chuckles, voice way too close to your ear. “What? I just want to make sure my first granted wish meets expectations.”
You swallow hard, forcing yourself to focus. The warmth of his breath lingers against your neck, and you hate that your body reacts to it.
It’s going to be a long seven days.
Jake watches you, his smirk softening. “That’s one,” he murmurs.
You swallow. Six more to go. And something tells you—
This week is going to change everything.

Oath-making and heathen practice

Jólablót and the winter solstice are around the corner! You might have already planned your celebration, but I'm here to give you a last minute idea! I realized I'd never really tackled the topic of ritual oath-making in my posts before, despite it being part of my personal practice. In what circumstances would oaths be sworn, historically? Where does the arm-ring come in? What sorts of oaths would be made? Let's dive into this topic.
While the importance of oath-making was somewhat exaggerated by heroic literature, keeping one's word was most certainly regarded by the germanic peoples as a crucial element in the social order. The Cleasby & Vigfusson Old Norse dictionary refers to a such a practice as heitstrengingar (heit-strengja), meaning "to take a vow".
This ceremonial event would generally occur at larger gatherings, in communities with an already established religious order. In other words, in a setting where there was a religious leader to preside over the practice. Understandably, this element can be foregone in the context of modern practice. According to the sources that history has left us with, this practice of ritualized vow-taking would more often than not be performed on Yule, at weddings, at funerals or at banquets. But where does the arm ring come in?

It's stated in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle that when peace was established between king Alfred the Great and the danish army which had invaded Wareham, the latter party swore on a "sacred bracelet" to respect the newfound peace. This so-called bracelet was later regarded as the very same ring, generally made of either copper, silver, or gold, and worn around the arm, which was bestowed by chieftains onto successful warriors as a symbol of their prowess.
It's also said that some temples were equipped with a ritual ring, which would be worn by the goði in between ceremonies.
"Therewithin was there a great frith-place. But off the inmost house was there another house, of that fashion whereof now is the choir of a church, and there stood a stall in the midst of the floor in the fashion of an altar, and thereon lay a ring without a join that weighed twenty ounces, and on that must men swear all oaths; and that ring must the chief have on his arm at all man-motes." Eyrbyggja Saga - The Saga of the Ere-Dwellers, chapter 4.
It's interesting to note that oath-making was often followed by ritual toasting. In this sense, a neo-pagan can choose to prepare a drink to go along with their oath! This is especially relevant if you're somebody who has chosen, as I have, to respect the three Jólablót toasts (one to Óðinn for success, one to Freyr and Njörðr for peace and prosperity, and one for your ancestors, in the name of memory). The order in which one carries out their Jól celebrations is theirs to decide, but I've always found it practical to let the oath be directly followed by the toasts!

So, it seems you might need an arm ring on which to swear your oath, right? Don't be so sure! There have been attestations of oaths being sworn on the ritual drink itself, which bears comparison with the wider practice called symbel.
In the texts where the practice appears, a bragarfull ("promise-cup") is used as a vessel for the toast. So what's the point of adding a drink to the mix? You can regard it as adding further spiritual meaning to the practice of oath-making. After all, it's believed that the symbel must have been greatly significant in early germanic religious practice. See the following passage from the Fagrskinna which describes the ceremony during which inheritance is bestowed.
"And when memorial feasts were held according to ancient custom, it was required to hold them in the year of the death of the man in whose memory the feast was being held. And he who had the feast prepared must not sit in the high seat of the man whose memory he was honoring before men had drunk the memorial toast. The first evening, when people came to the feast, many toasts had to be offered up in the same way as memorial toasts are now, and they dedicated those toasts to their most important kinsmen, or to Þórr, or to other of their gods, in heathen times, and finally they had to drink the bragafull, and then he who was holding the feast had to make a vow on the bragafull, as did all those attending the memorial feast, and then he had to mount into the seat of the man who was being honoured, and he then entered fully into possession of the inheritance and honour of the dead man, but not before." Fagrskinna, a catalogue of the Kings of Norway.
According to the Fagrskinna, the vow is to be made after having drunk from the bragarfull. Interestingly enough, drinking from the bragarfull also seems tied to the celebration of Jól. A passage from the Helgakviða Hjörvarðssonar reads:
“Hedin was coming home alone from the forest one Yule-eve, and found a troll-woman; she rode on a wolf, and had snakes in place of a bridle. She asked Hedin for his company. ‘Nay,’ said he. She said, ‘Thou shalt pay for this at the bragarfull.’ That evening the great vows were taken; the sacred boar was brought in, the men laid their hands thereon, and took their vows at the bragarfull.” Helgakviða Hjörvarðssonar, part 4.
It's also said that apart from ritual drink and arm rings, an oath could also be taken on a stone. If you're someone who enjoys crafts at all, a fun way to incorporate this practice into a Jól celebration would be to paint or decorate a stone, or to carve meaningful runes carrying your intent onto it, and to make your vows upon it on the longest night.

So what sort of oath should you be making? In the context of neo-paganism, and especially for those of us interested in reconstructing historical practice, oath-making doesn't need to have a spiritual dimension at all. Historically, it served a rather down-to-earth, even political purpose. See this exerpt from the Landnámabók:
“A ring weighing two ounces or more should lie on the stall in every chief Temple, and this ring should every chief or godi have upon his arm at all public law-motes [...]. Every man who was there to transact any business, as by law provided by the Court, should first take an oath upon that ring and name for the purpose two or more witnesses and repeat the following words : ‘I call to witness in evidence, he was to say, that I take oath upon the ring, a lawful one (lögeid) so help me Frey and Niord and the Almighty God, [...] that I will deal lawfully with all such matters in law as I have to deal with while I am at this Thing.’” Landnámabók - The Book of the Settlement of Iceland, part 4, chapter 7.
You'll note here another fascinating tidbit of information regarding ritual oath-making: the presence of one or more witnesses! This element of the ritual is also attested in other such sources. If you're comfortable involving a loved one or more into your Yule celebrations, it's possible for you to do so, as they will bear witness to your vow.
If you regard oaths as sacred at all, I would advise not throwing them around lightheartedly, especially if they involve a deity in any way. Personally, I prefer to make oaths that: 1, I know I'll be able to keep for sure; and 2, I know I'll have control over. For example, changing a certain habit, working on an aspect of myself that I want to improve... Even from a historical standpoint, these ritualized oaths didn't have much to do with the Gods, but were rather centered around the human experience. In a way, this is reminiscent of new year resolutions. Since the time or year coincides, a lone practitioner who must stay discreet with their pagan practice can still take an oath in the guise of making such a resolution.
As usual, I feel the need to specify that not much is known about this practice at all, especially not when looking at it through the lens of history. This is a practice that you can take or leave, depending on your preference. What matters most in my opinion, meaning from a reconstructionist perspective, is to treat oath-making with due respect, regardless of the ceremonial elements or lack-thereof that one chooses to surround it with.

I had a wild theory that the hydrangeas Phuwit brought to the hospital to give Thun were a good sign because they were blue and symbolized forgiveness.

So I was hoping that, beyond his shady demeanor, he would end up being a truly good guy.

But now @negrowhat just hit me with some (great?) news because during a re-watch, it was noticed that someone else had blue hydrangeas in a hospital room.

I had already thought it wasn't a coincidence that Yut just happened to volunteer at the same exact hospital that Ait's sister had been moved to, but now I feel more convinced that something is up.

Somebody is paying for Keaw's medical bills after seeing Ait's live with Keen, and I thought whoever that person was would be the bad guy holding this great debt over Ait's head, so he would have to screw over Phuwit and the gym, but now?

I'm not so sure who is a hero and who is a villain.

These are the facts-ish about Phuwit:
Emphasis was put on Phuwit bringing blue hydrangeas to the Thun
There were blue hydrangeas in Keaw's room
Which means Phuwit could be the one paying for her hospital stay
Phuwit was the one who insisted Yut fight in the event
Yut volunteers at the same hospital that Keaw was transferred to
Yut is doping up like Typhoon
Typhoon is managed by Pakorn, who might be/is Thun's dad
Someone is after Phuwit and using Ait to get to him
Someone also killed Keen's dad and Muay
Someone poisoned Thun, but that person couldn't have been Phuwir since he funded the event and got backlash because of it
Right now, Phuwit as the good guy would make sense but him being adamant that Yut fight is what keeps throwing me for a loop. And also, why would Phuwit do all of these good things? It just can't be for the love of game. The color blue and the actions would make more sense if he was Thun's dad or even Ait's (or gay and in a relationship with someone's daddy), but right now, it doesn't make sense!

Keen was in the live with Ait when the donor saw the story about Ait's sister. Yut joined the fight because of Keen. Thun is now tangled back up with Typhoon and Pakorn because of Keen. And the entire fight was Keen's idea, which he got from his homemade childhood crossword book, Archetypes of the Enemy

In the book, he had completed a crossword that was written in blue:
2. mistake that involves losing or giving up something - forfeit
3. want something to happen or be true - hope
4. deal with an unpleasant or difficult situation - brave
5. graceful and stylish in appearance or manner - elegance

But he didn't answer the first one, Thun did — 1. both heroes and villains know its weight, giving up for other seals their fate - sacrifice

And when he went to the bar later where he met Yut, he was finishing a word search in red: perseverance, ignorance, selflessness, family, frustrated.

So what if Purple Person Phuwit is both a hero and a villain? He is already blending the colors so why not be a mix of what they represent? Maybe he did something wrong in the past (or is even doing something wrong now) and is trying to make amends for it by helping Keen and all his loved ones in all these ways?

What’s your lore for peony? Cause isn’t it canonically like, a proxy/servant of the spectre or something?
Does the evil hat have a redemption arc (very normal sentence without context trust)
YESYES ^_^ ohhhhh peony my beloved,,,,..,uughghggh it's hard to put into words but i'm gonna try, mb if it's worded weirdly im ass at explaining,,,,,, Cooked allat lore just so i can have the silly sentient hat stay and now im attached to her too icanT
the hat itself isn't a malicious creature, and wasn't created by the spectre either. its original creator, blizzaria, made it as a magical companion for themselves a long, long time ago.
'This powerful hat contains the essence of the never ending frozen wasteland that is the origin of Blizzaria and all that is cold.'
this holds true; however, the power once held by the hat has diminished over the years after its creator's death, much to the disdain of certain future wearers who weren't the greatest people and expected something more from it.
eventually, the hat landed in the hands of the spectre, who was beyond intrigued by its unique ability to link consciousness with a wearer.
and uh. essentially my idea with this is like. it's actually not easy for the spectre to directly influence a person's mind without other aspects that would help with it (such as john doe's corruption which was already destroying his mind, or a child's mind already being vulnerable enough in the case of c00lkidd,,u get it)
azure was basically an experiment of the spectre, which utilized the hat as a proxy that would influence his thoughts and actions. it was the hat that became completely corrupted by its powers, and due to now being connected to azure, the initial hatred, confusion and resentment he felt after the sacrifice was constantly being greatly intensified and fueled by it, keeping him in a state of anguish that he could not control.
the hat's ability to speak for the wearer in their voice was also used against azure, the spectre literally zipping his mouth shut so no words of his own would ever come out. (fun fact - i imagine blizzaria was also mute, which is why this ability exists :] teehee)
the hat was barely aware of what was going on during forsaken due to being completely taken over by the spectre's power, so post-forsaken she was.genuinely very lost & confused,, why and how does she have a new owner again?? and why throwing her to the ground with fear and rage on his face is the first thing he did?? however, he could feel what she feels too due to their connection and could tell that said feelings were actually genuine,,he was just as lost now, but hesitantly took her back as his new companion.
he later on gave her the name peony - a flower that, among other things, symbolizes healing, love, happiness, prosperity, and good fortune ^_^
she serves as a means of communication for him & as a sort of voice of reason in some cases,,trying her best to help him deal with the heavy emotions he still often feels after everything that happened.
azure also leaves her to watch over breeze when he has to do something else (like chores or tending to his garden) but wants to let them rest and not drag them along with him HDJHFKG it's both so they don't feel lonely and.for their safety,,she can still notify azure from a distance in case their behavior is worrying(this is actually significant in another lore bit i have but i won't get into it now anD it's a sensitive topic HHHHH)
she's genuinely really fond of both him and two time/breeze after spending lots of time with them, she loves them to bits,,, they actually treat her like a living being instead of just an object. like i mentioned earlier, not all of her previous owners were good people, and even though she only has vague memories of them, she's grateful she ended up in good hands right now, even if the road to it was.very messy to say the least
so yeah. the homophobic hat (that wasn't even truly homophobic) turned into the actual #1 azuretime fan LMAO
misc fun fact 1: she can't remember her creator at all anymore, but cold, snowy days in the winter still bring her a sense of nostalgia that she cannot shake off.
misc fun fact 2: she makes a sound similar to purring when she's happy, as well as an assortment of various little squeaks and noises ^^ silly hat,,,,,she loves being pet as well teehee

Costume Meta 7x05
Hello, Hey, how we all doing??
Ready for another super long meta post??
There is so much to talk about this week - admittedly mostly Buck and Eddie related, but there is also plenty going on for Hen and Karen as well.
No Bobby this week as we only see him in uniform, and only the one costume for Athena as well. I also want to say that I am not doing any of the costumes from the Madney wedding that we saw at the end of the epsiode - I want to give them the space they deserve and I will probably write a separate pre episode meta for those costumes specifically! All I will say is Maddie looks stunning, Buck in white - hello! and Eddie in a just a collar making him look like a pink priest - hilarious!
The rest is under the cut as always 😎
Let's start with some of the guest characters.
Alien Hand syndrome man continues to prove the check means bad things theme, which makes me happier than you can ever know!!
Then we have Deidra in her very bright pink coat. If you read my promo meta for this episode you will have read a fairly sizeable section at the end on my thinking about the use of pink in this season (going to make a separate post during this hiatus so its all in one place). All of the times we see it in this episode, play into (and I guess prove) my thinking. Deidra is acting with good intentions and while I don't think she's naive or innocent in the strictest sense of the word, she is perhaps continually being naive in thinking that not revealing Mara's past is the right way to go (don't come at me about child protection etc I am fully aware of what the real world laws state, but this story arc really highlights the fact that in trying to protect children who are at risk and in the system, they can also cause ongoing harm if things are not taken on a case by case basis - its a whole other essay that I am not getting into here).

Then we have Mara herself who is never without pink - namely her pink blanket. The pink plays into the theme of innocence especially with Mara and while she may not be innocent of the act of maiming Denny, her innocence goes much deeper. Its meant as a very clear signpost of the innocence of childhood - that pink blanket and her clinging onto it is a symbol of her clinging onto her childhood, despite the fact that she has gone through a terrible loss and trauma. she is still a child and the show is clearly going to play into the idea that as she settles into the Wilson home and is able to work through the trauma, her need to cling onto her childhood in this way will diminish and we'll see her slowly become less attached to the blanket. We already have signs of progress with the colour journey her tops have been on - lavender, pink and then the turquoise one at the end. Lavender is also a colour associated with childishness or lethargy, pink the colour of innocence, and childhood. While turquoise is a colour of calmness and clarity. its signalling HenRen's breakthrough with Mara and that she's growing and beginning to feel secure.

Hen and Karen
Hen and Karen go on a real colour journey this week - I'm doing them together (along with Denny) because they very much work in tandem clothing wise (and also because I was running out of pictures again - whats new there!)
So first up we have Karen in this beautiful dip dye ombre dress in purple, pink and mauve. it also has this drip staining pattern which has deliberately been created during the dying process. The lavender at the top of the dress is representative of hope and serenity, this is Karen in a great place - about to expand her family and fulfil a dream. The pink as I've said is all about innocence and naivety - more innocence in this case - both the new baby being innocent and Hen and Karens innocent hopes for their future. The dark mauve at the bottom of the skirt - eating into the pink is such a choice - gathering storm clouds, foreshadowing the turmoil about to come - taking away the innocent hope. mauve can be standoffish and withdrawn, and in this context those are great descriptors for Mara and her struggles that Hen and Karen will need to help her work through.

Hen's in cyan blue trousers - which is a colour associated with clarity and balance. whilst the cream, black and blue jacket with stars on is the beginning point for a theme that runs through the Wilsons arc this week - black is a power colour, associated with many things, but for Hen and Karen in this arc it is very much about protection and strength. Here for hen it is mostly about protection - protecting this new baby they are about to take in. The cream is warmth and tranquility.

Hen is wearing check - foreshadowing the upcoming struggles with Mara. Karens bronze and black Jacquard trousers are a symbol of strength - bronze as a colour means strength and support, it's also a symbol of faithfulness. It's telling us that Karen will take the lead on supporting Mara and being strong for her.
We see a lot of white on Karen in this episode, white, like pink is a colour of innocence, but it is more associated with purity and balance. It is also a colour of neutral refelction. By this I mean that it amplifies other colours by providing a neutral background - allowing other colours to shine. I find this a really interesting thing when connected with Karen - it amplifies her strength and supportive nature when the Wilsons meet Mara.

Hen adn Karen in bed are in dusty versions of blue and pink - Karen innocently tries to touch Mara and that is when the screaming starts. Putting Hen in blue is about relaying her trustworthiness and sets her up as a soothing and calming presence for Mara - hence the sleeping on the floor of her room!

At the hospital, We see Denny in red - he was wearing it when Mara woke the house up and its an indicator of what is about to befall them (in the same way Bobbys red in the cruise ship disaster adn Athenas red in relation to Harry, or Bucks back in s5 when Eddie broke down).
We again have Karen in white amplifying the other colour she is wearing, which in this instance is this buff/brown oversized sleeveless coat in teddy fleece. The brown is stability, dependability and responsibility - playing into the fact this episode really highlights Karen's position in the family as this stable rock which Hen and Denny lean on when they need support. Karen's unswerving and solid personality is once more being shown off. Its really a key thing for them to show as it feels like a set up for Mara and how she is going to bond and rely on Karen and that dependability as she unpacks her trauma.

The orange jumper is a really interesting choice. I do love the loose threads on the design of it - paying into the idea that Hen and Karen are at a loose end and unsure what to do going forward. But, the orange itself is generally an open minded colour, its energetic and its also a colour of transformation. These are all things we know are true of Hen and Karen and it hints at the fact that they will fin a way forward. Once again we have Karen in white amplifying Hen's orange and the energy and idea of transformation the colour brings.

Denim jacket and white tee. I love the distressed nature of this denim jacket and the way it plays into both scenes we see it in - playing into the distress Hen feels over finding out what Mara has gone through and how it explains why she has become non verbal and incredibly protective over her pink blanket.
Again the white of amplification and purity. Hen has pure intentions and the white amplifies Karens black when they are at dispatch listening to the 911 call.
We also have the Karen necklace back - once more showing this ism't about Hen - its about Karen and their family.

Black on Karen for this scene is such a choice. Black is a power colour, it means strength and protection. Here it is showing Karens determination, as she gains understanding, to protect Mara and support her through her trauma - it is representative of Karen choosing to use the power she has been given through gaining information. The gold highlights hint at success.

I love these lavender pyjamas on Karen - lavender is a soothing and sleep inducing colour (along with its scent which is possibly where the association came from for the colour) along with a Japanese print of mountains and trees, which plays into the idea of serenity and peacefulness.
Hen in contrast is wearing fairly bright and bold black and green. The green is all about that growth and learning once more, the growth of Hen and Karen, learning more about the issues Mara faces and seeking a solution, but also the growth of their family. The black is a reflection of power - much in the same way Karen wearing black when they heard the 911 call Mara made, here it is Hen, representing the protection that Hen and Karen are offering Mara.

Athena in green - again with the mesh open weave knit - this may be a theme for her this season - potentially something to do with feeling caged or caging someone/something - especially children as both scenes we've seen it so far have been to do with young people and the law in some respect - ending up in the system - Harry through is crime and Mara through her parents death.

Chim
This dark bottle green with a fawn brown (what I think is a polo) shirt underneath is Chimneys only non uniform costume this week . This kind of dark green, is as always a signal of growth, but its also a colour of harmony, and right now - everything in Chim's world is harmonious.

Maddie
I don't thinkI've said it yet, but I am so happy to have Alayna back dressing Jennifer - I feel like we're really back on track with Maddie's costuming after last season where they somehow managed to make Maddie look terrible. The costuming overall last year was fine - not as good as Alayna's work, but it was for the most part good - except for Maddie where it was all over the place!
Anyway - Maddie in black here is very much about focussing the attention on Hen and Karen - like with CHimney's muted green, in tandem they are making the viewers eye focus on Hen and Karen - especially Karen - who is the brightest in the room.

Maddie wearing this sage green colour when Buck comes out to her is sheer perfection from my perspective - we, once more have the green of growth and renewal, the green of learning - Maddie learning more about her brother - this new thing that he is realising about himself and choosing to share with her (even if inadvertently). But this green is also sage green - sage as in the play on sage advice - which we see Maddie give him. Buck needs that good advice - he needs to hear that its ok, that he can take the time to figure himself out and that its ok that he's only just uncovered this aspect of himself and that it doesn't invalidate him being an ally up to this point!

Ok not going to lie - I got a little carried away from here on out - so sorry in advance for the rambling mess you're about to read!
Marisol
I'm doing Marisol in a weird order - because I wanted to talk about her date night outfit in tandem with Eddies - because its relevant. So we start of with virgin Mary Marisol! Honestly this outfit is just perfection from the costume department - they saw the brief and went to town and I love it. Its so good to see what they can do when they get to play!
One of the things I really love about this costume is the blue that they chose. Because that blue - that is Bucks blue! the virgin Mary blue is usually a much brighter royal blue. It really helps to place Marisol in parallel to Buck and we get the play on t he fact that Eddie seeing Marisol in this way changes everything for him, whilst later on, whilst Buck is in the same blue, he reassures him that nothing will change between them.

Look, I'm not going to lie, when I saw Marisol in blue and yellow for this scene I laughed because Blue and yellow (as I've gone on a million times about) means queer coding so to blatantly put Marisol in it - in a washed out form, and very much connecting her to Catholicism - genius move. It marks her out as a roadblock, but also puts her into the role of beard (unknowingly on her part) because Eddie is still in the midst of his repression, even if it is beginning to unravel now.
The black top with spaghetti straps is clearly a theme they're going with on Marisol, as are the ditsy prints. The yellow high waisted trousers are interesting because of the specific shade of yellow. Yes the whole communication theme still applies here -and we see it in action, but this shade of yellow is sallow and sickly (one of the reasons its called sickly yellow is because its the colour of a lot of medications!!) - this relationship and its restart are ill and that automatically means its going to struggle to survive.
It plays into the more negative meanings around the colour - uncertainty and idleness and cowardice. For me the cowardice aspect is an interesting one in relation to Eddie - he has behaved cowardly up to this point - hiding out and not having the conversations that need to be had, and even in this scene it is Marisol who takes the lead.
It's really giving us an indication of things Eddie needs to work on in regards to himself - and once more it comes down to communication. Communication has always been Eddies major flaw - that he isn't good at it, unless really really pushed into it - essentially under duress. The other thing with communication is that it plays really well into the catholic guilt aspect - this idea that growing up catholic has taught him to repress part of who he is - to go along with what is expected of him, but that it also taught him not to ask for what he needs, to not communicate. We see it in this episode with his inability to say no to Marisol (the whole hiding out at Bucks so he doesn't have to have sex speaks volumes) even down to suggesting there's a third type of guy - who just needs a minute. Because, while that might be true to a certain extent, the fact that he says this off the back of her expressing her distress and upset about how all guys are one of two things, speaks volumes - its not him saying this because that's how he actually feels, its partly him saying it because he is pushed into a position where he doesn't want to be the bad guy. its really not a good place to be restarting a relationship from.
We also have the ditsy print of doom in play again - like I've said before, ditsy print on Eddies girlfriends - never a good sign - its really playing into this idea of Eddie jumping in headfirst with gay abandon (pun intended) and then regretting his life choices. Shannon wore ditsy print a fair amount - especially in the I think I'm pregnant' and 'we should get a divorce' scenes. Ana wore ditsy print A LOT - she was wearing it when Eddie had his panic attack in the shop and at other key moments that marked the death knell for their relationship. And so this appearance of ditsy print here marks the same - the relationship is not long for this world

OK date night Marisol. The way this outfit played out more or less as I expected, She was very much an 'innocent' bystander in this scene (whilst also creating one corner of a triangle with Buck and Eddie) , and the ditsy print very much played into this. Like I said in my promo meta, both Shannon and Ana were costumed in ditsy print as well as in lots of pink!!!
The other aspect of this outfit that is making me laugh is the fact that the skirt is giving me 1980's/early 1990's teen vibes (not to out myself as old but trust me I had some just like this back then and I wouldn't be caught dead in it now as a grown woman!!) and the baby pink handbag looks like something an 8 year old would have to play dress up with - its all very childish and immature - naive one could say, and while it didn't play out quite how I was expecting, her being a novice nun, sure explains a lot of why she comes over as pretty immature.
The other aspect of this childish style we're seeing on her plays into Eddies narrative of looking for magic and trying to recreate what he had with Shannon. He's attracted to Marisol because she is immature and childish - it reminds him of what he had with Shannon when he was young, and when you're trying to recapture that, its easy to fall into the trap of thinking someone behaving in a naive manner is you finding what you'd been looking for. Eddies journey, along side his catholic guilt, is about learning that he cannot recapture or recreate that magic he had when he was young - that the love of youth - in all its innocence is not something that is sustainable or actually what he wants in the present.
Then we have Eddie in white. I spoke in the promo meta about how the white set him and Marisol as opposites and that remains true - very true on more than one level. What I especially love about it and something I could not have predicted is how it plays into the novice nun aspect of their story this episode - truly this show is a comedy! Because nuns wear black and white this is an obvious play on that, but it is also a play on the fact that Marisol is still a practicing catholic, whilst Eddie is very much not. The other aspect of this white is that of Eddies two non uniform costumes, it is the first one and we get this black and white play on religion - the black and white of nuns and priests - the black and white of being religious or not. Eddie never questions if he wants to become a practicing catholic again - he is lapsed and that is how he intends to stay.

Eddie in uniform, with his green trainers, blue towel and water bottle. the blue towel and bottle play into the buck and Eddie blue green theming we see with them. But what is interesting is though is that Eddie is fulfilling all the colour theming on his own - he is both blue and green - to me this is about Eddies own struggles within himself as well as foreshadowing the Eddie Marisol break up down the line (green shoes suggest a road needs to be to walked before we get there) - it hints at Eddies internal struggles and implies that its will ultimately end in a break up a bit further down the line.
I also think it's only when in Uniform that Eddie can admit to his catholic guilt. Because we all know when Eddie is struggling with some form of emotional turmoil, he wears a black singlet - and he could've been wearing the same here, it would've been totally fitting with the situation - he is going through something emotionally and struggling with it.
But he's in his uniform. Part of it is to have him on a different level to Buck - they are both struggling with something in this scene. When we have previously had Buck and Eddie scenes like this one at work, the one dressed in uniform, tends to be the one offering advice to the one not in uniform. That isn't the case here. Part of it comes back to Buck not actually needing advice, but needing to reveal something about himself - to confess. Eddie is the one who needs advice.
This is a flipping of the traditional narrative for these scenes and is proof that even though Eddie might later tell Buck that nothing is going to change between them, that it has in fact already changed, it is just that neither of them are fully cognisant of that change at this moment in time. It is a key indicator to use the audience that this has happened before but that things are not going to play out the same way this time.
Put it this way - Eddie has form for doing something extreme with his relationships with women in the aftermath of Buck doing something dumb - its one of the manifestations of his repression. This time its asking Marisol to move in with him in the immediate aftermath of Buck going full green monster over Tommy.
Last time it was in the aftermath of Buck begins and then doubling down with Ana after the shooting when Buck had hooked up with Taylor and before that in the aftermath of Shannon's death and Buck suing the department he went and joined a fight club - but he has form. Its completely in character for him to pull this sort of a move. I know he says he's going with his gut but I argue he is in fact ignoring his gut - or at the very least confused about what his gut is telling him, because that would mean actually looking at why his gut reaction to Buck doing something dumb makes him do something dumb in turn connected to these women in his life.

Eddie in black - this is the same shirt as the white one - just the reverse colour - which is important. This shirt has several layered meanings to it. its about the reversal of what Eddie wants - from him being bubbly and excited about Marisol moving in, to the dread of her having moved in and wanting her to move out - his feelings go from white to black - light to dark - happy to unhappy and it all sums up the relaity of that relationship - while it was new and unserious, it was fun and light, when things got real - it becomes dark and oppressive.
I'll go into more detail about this shirt when I get to Bucks costume for this scene - because they are connected!
The other thing about this outfit is that the green trousers have been replaced with jeans. Now I see a couple of reasons for the wardrobe department doing this. Firstly is that it plays into the 'nothings is going to change between us' of it all. Its a visual indicator that in fact things have changed (along with Buck wearing a brighter shirt than we normally get in these buddie heart to hearts that take place in Bucks loft but more on that later) the Buck being bi and going on a date with Tommy of it all aside, this is the first time we've actively seen Eddie hiding out at Bucks to avoid his girlfriend - this was a barrier that had existed between them previously that has now been broken down. Then there is the fact that Eddie does go home to Marisol - and he couldn't be wearing green at that point because she was wearing blue and Eddie in green would've meant break up time - only the Marisol as a plot device arc isn't yet over (it will be soon I promise - all the costume signs are there!) so that couldn't happen.

Tommy
This dark olive green shirt that is almost brown. The brown undertones hint at the stability he represents while the green is hinting at his military past and once more paralleling him with Eddie. One of the things about green as a colour is that its not only a symbol of growth and renewal, but its also a colour of learning, and in an episode titled 'You don't know me' it feels like all the green is very much about education - learning about other people - and the growth that results from it. It feels especially important here for Tommy and Buck - that is after all what going on a date it all about - learning about one another and seeing if you're compatible.
The other fun thing about this green shirt is though that the green plays into the blue green colour theory when it comes to Buck and Eddie and their partners and the end of relationships. This one before its had chance to begin.

For Coffee we have a grey Henley and a blue zip front hoodie with a grey striped undertone to it (I am pretty sure this is actually a hoodie we've seen on Chimney but I can't remember when and I don't think it would be the very same one as pretty sure Lou would not be fitting into Kenneths clothes ever, but Chimney has definelty worn the same style!!). Again Henley's are an Eddie thing, so we once more have the parallel with Eddie being drawn.
The interesting thing here is that the grey blue is the same colour combo Buck wore on their first date attempt - the costume department played a lot with flipping colour in this episode, so to have it done here as well is really fun - the fact there is more grey than blue is also interesting. It's a neutral colour, it is seen as a colour of stability, but is also a colour of uncertainty. It really plays into that theme of uncertainty running through the Buck and Tommy arc. The blue hoodie is actually pretty important because we've had one of Buck and Tommy wearing something dark blue in every scene they've had together - usually the one on the back foot. Tommy in this scene is relatively neutral in terms of position for most of this scene - they are equals - but he is put onto the back foot by Buck asking him to be his date to Maddie and Chim's wedding.

Buck
Where to start with our beloved bi disaster!
I obviously spoke a fair amount about the date night shirt in my promo meta. The navy blue knit bowling shirt with these silver/grey close together pinstripes running down the front playing into the Buck wearing vertical stripes theme we've has running with him for at least the last 2 seasons.
What I said about false starts and this date absolutely played out - in the same way the sperm donation shirt represented a false start on that donation, this shirt also represents a false start on Bucks dating life as a bi man. The white trainers are also carrying on the theme of Bucks Journey towards happiness
What I find most interesting about this outfit though isn't colour theory related. its all about the fit of the clothes. Because these are ill fitting on Buck - not something we see from him very often - in fact I think the only time we see him in anything close to ill fitting to this extent is back in season 1 when he was figuring out who he was and if being a firefighter was the right for him and exploring relationships and what he was trying to find in that arena. The trousers are the most ill fitting of it all, but I'll come to the trousers later on as they are part o a wider Buck costume theme we have going on!
The shirt is a little roomie, but not overly so, it just stands out more because we're so used to his shirts fighting for their life, here this one is baggy and really helps to sell the idea of defeat, but also that h was trying on this new part of himself for size and that it doesn't quite fit. It's the only time this episode we see his clothes not fit him in this way and its a really small but expressive part of costuming that I love to see.

Then we have this blue broadcloth jacket over a white tee and with these plum/brown coloured trousers - they're a bit blink and you'll miss them so its hard to be sure what type of trouser they are, but I think they are essentially smart joggers - jersey material but trousers!
We all know that Buck in white means trouble, I'm putting him outing himself to his sister as the bad thing - along with the fact that the date didn't work out.
I'm really fascinated by the fact that we really seem to be leaning into navy blue and Buck being bi. Navy has always been a colour we've seen a lot of on Buck in general, but there is something about the fact we've seen him (or Tommy) wearing it in every single scene that is about his bisexuality. I'm talking from the kiss scene onwards, not anything before that as Buck wasn't aware of his bisexuality before the kiss. I can't wait to see if it continues!

The green shirt jacket is an interesting one. it obviously helps to play into the buck and Eddie blue green theory, but it does in a smaller way play into the blue green theming we see around Buck and Eddie and their relationships - specifically around issues arising. Both Buck and Eddie wear green when they break up with their significant others and while there is no break up here, there is a break of sorts. This was Buck about to try and tell his Best friend that he was actually out on a date with Tommy and that he's bi
symbol of growth - Buck went in with a goal - to tell Eddie he was on a date with Tommy, but changed tack when he saw Eddie needed to go through something - this is Buck growing as a person - not making something about him.
The other thing about this outfit is that its basically the same as the one Eddie wore at the airfield (even down to the badding of the trousers) - just in reverse - Eddie black trousers, black jacket, green top, and here Buck is black trousers, black top and green jacket - I find this fascinating as a metaphor for where the two of them are on their respective journeys.
Buck is now bi and out (he's told his sister) and has been on a date with a guy (regardless how successful it was - he cannot put it back into the box) - his growth is externalised and therefore expressed through the wearing of a green jacket. We get a lot of storytelling through the various Jackets Buck wears (we've seen him in over 35 at this point!)
While Eddie - who we could say was being taken on a date by Tommy - even if he didn't know it (because who flies someone to Vegas to a sold out fight if its not a date??) wearing a much brighter green that we've seen on him before now (pretty much all of his greens are more army green with a couple of exceptions - much darker greens akin to Bucks jacket in the below picture) - still in the army green wheelhouse, but much bolder. Eddie's queer status is still very much internalised - hence it being underneath the black jacket.

Buck coming out to Eddie from a costume perspective was a glorious parallel that I have already mentioned in the promo meta (I've run out of pictures so you'll have to go watch the scene yourself if you want to see what I mean). Its actually a bit deeper that I appreciated in that promo meta, but that is in part because at the time of writing the meta I wasn't 100% sure it was a coming out scene and I didn't get to see the way it was shot and how that also played into the paralleling.
Costume wise - I already spoke above about Eddies black shirt and how it is reversing him in the episode. But what I didn't mention is that fact that it parallels in colour terms, what he was wearing when Buck informed the firefam that Connor and Kameron were pregnant. Eddie wore a black marl henley - black with flecks of dark grey running through it, and Buck here is wearing a slightly darker blue version of the same top he wore in that same scene. He is standing in the same place at the counter of his kitchen, or sitting very close to the same position and we get similar camera angles. As a whole the parallel is very loud - Buck was happy and proud of something he had done and wanted to share it with his friends - wanted their approval. He was feeling good about himself and confident in his decision.
The biggest thing about the blue - this shade specifically is the way it play into the blue theme we saw last season with Buck - the theme that started in the 5x18 finale at Hen and Karens vow renewal, when he was free of Taylor and moving forward and essentially restarting his search for happiness. We saw it weave a thread through the entirety of season 6, being worn at key moments that played into that theme - after Lev died, at various points in the sperm donation arc, and a key points in the aftermath of his death and rebirth.
The successfully helping create life aspect of this is so interesting. It on a low key level plays into the you don’t find it you make it manifesto that’s been at the heart of bucks arc since s2. the whole year if yes was supposed to be about this very thing - about Buck creating the life he wants for himself  - the sperm donation isn’t about the baby it’s about Buck and about him figuring out what he’s missing (which comes back to not only Thomas and Mitchell, but also Lev).
The other thing that ties into this theme is that Eddie isn't really changing but Buck is. Whenever we have a scene at the loft between Buck and Eddie Bucks costume and colour varies, but Eddies stays more or less the same. Bucks colour Palette for these scenes goes - dark grey in the you want to go for the title scene, then we have the grey blue on the balcony and now this much lighter blue. This is highlighting Bucks progression while Eddie who remains in his black shirt and that progression - while Eddie essentially remains steadfast - is key - it’s showing us that while buck is still doing dumb things, he is learning - he is listening to whatever Eddie is telling him - that he’s accepting Eddie’s absolution of his sins more and more - growing and understanding. 
It’s building on his long running arc - his fear of being left behind, of not being important enough for people to stick around for - and showing us he’s increasingly understanding that that fear is unfounded - that he’s found his personal- the one who will stay and who is steadfast in that. That’s why we see Eddie unchanging in his black shirt green cargos while buck gets lighter - more unburdened by that fear.
Before you think all is lost on the Eddie front though, we are seeing change - the army green trousers are gone and have been replaced with jeans - perhaps, in the same way Bucks growth into his bisexuality began with his beginning to wear jeans again, Eddies own growth into his own queer identity also begins with jeans - moving him away from Eddie the soldier - fighting for others - being a rock for others and now into a position where he can do his own growing.

In the sperm donation arc, Buck was finally able to donate and was wearing that super pale mint green polo. we don't see the same with the outcome here at this point in the story (although the beige/mint green jacket from the bachelor party is making me👀👀👀 at this moment in time!) - we get this cream open weave linen shirt with black and terracotta and golden brown vertical stripes.
I love that they went with a shirt that has such an open weave - playing into the whole concept of Buck being open and embracing this newly revealed part of him that he's discovered. But what I love most about this shirt is the way it ties back into the Buck learning to accept himself and find his happiness.

Because this shirt is so similar to the one from 6x01 - when he decides he doesn't need a new couch, what he needs is to be ok on his own and with himself.

lets talk Buck and his trousers because the trousers are a whole thing this season and I am truly in love with the long game the wardrobe department have been playing on this one. They know that we have all been out here raising eyebrows at Bucks trousers for the past few seasons as they've gotten shorter and shorter and ill fitting. I know I've made comments in previous costume metas about the fact they must be doing something intentional with them being so short in the leg - that them doing this is giving the appearance of a child who is still in short trousers and isn't fully grown - hasn't moved on to wearing full length trousers yet.
Well it would seem I was right and thats exactly what they were doing, putting him in short trousers to show that he wasn't his fully formed self - that he was growing and learning and figuring things out. because - I've gone back through my spreadsheet and checked his trousers out for all of his scenes and there are only a handful where he has trousers on that are well fitted and the correct length. One of them is at the start of season 6 - at the end of the episode where he moves his armchair instead of getting a new couch - the one time in season 6 we see him most at peace with himself
I remarked in the 7x04 meta that we only saw Buck in his too short trousers in the one scene at the airfield, and from then on, he was was in jeans. Now the jeans are a mimicking thing - Buck hasn't worn stone wash jeans since Eddie appeared on the scene back at the start of season 2, so for him to start wearing them again as soon as he becomes jealous of Eddie and Tommy - and Tommy is wearing jeans - was pretty telling in its own right. It's Buck trying to get Eddies attention (not Tommys - Eddies) because, we do not see Eddie in jeans in 7x04 - but we do see Tommy in them - and in Bucks head he is loosing Eddies attention to a guy wearing stone wash jeans - so if he wears stonewash jeans then maybe he'll get Eddies attention back.
That obviously didn't work out how Buck thought it would, but it did lead to him figuring a new part of himself out.
We can see how his trousers are all now sitting at the correct length, I grabbed this still of the black ones, and you can see in the full length still from the date those are as well (even if they're too big more generally) but the others are all sitting at the correct length as well.

We also see the jeans back for his scene with Tommy - I truly am fascinated by the choice to put him back in stonewash jeans aafter so long as a theming choice for his bisexuality, I really am enjoying this more relaxed looking Buck from a costuming perspective - the journey we've been on with his costumes is great - the increasingly formal style thats just a little too small and tight we've seen over the seasons now slowly relaxing once more into something much more comfortable and well fitted - showing just how far he has truly come.

Not sure if this has come out longer than last weeks, I think it might've, but I can't be bothered to check! I'm kinda curious, especially since a lot of people have very different views on this: How do you think Loki and Mobius would be in an actual, official, romantic relationship? I kinda think they would keep doing what they're doing but I don't really know what level of romantic stuff they would do. They're already pretty physically affectionate, but would they do that in public since both of 'em are pretty secretive about their normal emotion? They compliment each other but would they use things like honey and dear in a serious way? Etc. So...How do you think this time couple would be like?
I adore this ask because all my headcanons about Loki and Mobius being in an established relationship are SOFT. The best part is, canon supports this.
While I do agree that Loki and Mobius's dynamic will continue the way it has been, I also think a certain level of emotional intensity will be brought into the mix, increasing their general chemistry in front of others ten-fold. The banter, the idea spit-balling, the lack of personal space, the smiles, laughs, and long gazes ... imagine all of that dialed up. Loki loves as hard as he hates and is a hedonistic show off. Mobius has loved Loki since Day 1 and repressed his feelings for long enough. Are they really going to be reserved around each other once they're securely in a relationship?
No! They will be the most sickeningly lovey-dovey couple in the MCU.
WORDS OF AFFIRMATION
S1 had Mobius advocating for and complimenting Loki in private and in front of others. S2 had Loki reciprocating. It is not hard to imagine them becoming fiercely protective of one another on and off the field. Cross one, the other is crossed. They are a two-package deal, and both are vicious when it comes to wielding words on behalf of the other's dignity.
As for terms of endearment, I can imagine Loki calling Mobius "Darling" on spare, particularly emotional occasions. Mobius, on the other hand, still has Don in him. "Sweetheart" and "Honey" are very in-character pet names he would use. Both reserve usage of these names in private as Loki hates blushing in front of others, though Mobius has a tendency to slip when he's multitasking at work.
PHYSICAL TOUCH
The hug in S1E5 seems to have opened the door for physical affection come S2E1. Loki and Mobius (especially Mobius) touch one another with affection, attentiveness, and protectiveness on instinct. Despite not being romantically involved in S2, they move around one another the way two lovers in a small kitchen might. Once in a relationship, they will continue to do this but certain gestures will hold more meaning, in particular: holding hands.
One of Mobius's first gestures of kindness, which Loki initial rejected, was a handshake in S1E1.

The second time Mobius offers his hand, Loki takes it and uses Mobius's compassion as an opportunity to steal the time twister from his pocket.

Physically (and symbolically), Loki and Mobius's relationship was founded on Mobius extending a hand and Loki refusing it, betraying it, and finally taking it. I therefore see them holding hands regularly, every day, because holding onto one another is grounding, comforting, and reminds them of these earlier moments in their relationship that they've overcome together.
As these two are not shy about tight embraces in public, I doubt either would feel shy about chaste kisses either. They are so in-sync and adoring of another that it goes without saying that when they have sex, they make love passionately. They communicate with touching just as much as words, so heteronormative "bottom and top" designations are thrown out the window and into the dumpster (where they belong). How they have sex conveys how they feel about one another in that specific moment.
PDA
Among others, I can see them being nauseatingly sweet. We already know what bystanders look like when they tease and bicker with one another:

And make no mistake that Loki would up the dramatics with PDA just to gross Thor out. Thor making a "barfing gesture" cracks Loki up every time, and Mobius, resigned, goes along with it because who doesn't want to get peppered with kisses?
QUALITY TIME
I haven't seen anyone point this out yet, but it's hilarious to me that S2E3 starts in broad daylight and cuts to evening by the time Loki and Mobius stroll out with cracker jacks in their hands.

Loki looks a little annoyed but he is going along with it for Mobius's sake. Sightseeing at the World's Fair makes Mobius happy, and whatever makes Mobius happy, Loki will indulge even if he's not interested. Like that key lime pie he didn't eat.
If this is their relationship when it's platonic, then be ready for Mobius to take date night very seriously.
Dinner and a night at the opera? Naturally.

Mobius will take care of all the planning and Loki will enjoy sharing new experiences together. On (frequent) occasion, Mobius will surprise Loki by choosing an activity he knows Loki will enjoy, such as visiting an ancient library or perusing fine clothes at a bazaar.
Point being, these two have always enjoyed each other's company and have fun together. In a relationship, they will actively take time out of their schedule to bond more purposefully!
ACTS OF SERVICE
Both Loki and Mobius are strong when it comes to communicating love through acts of service. Where Mobius is a little higher on words of affirmation, I believe Loki is slightly higher here. Loki pays attention to Mobius's interests, habits, and creature comforts. He will commit to memory the exact way Mobius prefers his steaks, sandwiches, salads, and coffee prepared.
Mobius, for his part, will take care of things Loki doesn't like doing. Taking out the garbage? Done. Washing the car and filling it with gas? Did it while you were asleep. Filling out paperwork? Say no more.
Sadly, I don't think either of them have a talent for cooking. Loki grew up with palace servants. Mobius relied on the TVA cafeteria. They will attempt to conquer the kitchen together, but the end result is always either a fire or a flood. It's okay. Loki can name Mobius's top 5 take-out places off the top of his head.
GIFTS
Neither Loki nor Mobius strike me as big on gifts, but when they feel the sentiment, they give one another meaningful things that only they understand.

I think Mobius may be slightly more inclined for gift-giving. He knows what material objects mean most to Loki and why. Loki, meanwhile, might feel challenged in this area. Not for a lack of enthusiasm, mind, but because Mobius doesn't have many material desires beyond a jet ski. Loki would like to think he's more creative than getting Mobius a new one once a year.
In short, Loki and Mobius already engage in the 5 love languages. Being together will only strengthen what they do for one another, much to their friends' longsuffering annoyance.
