I’ve been wanting to try storytelling for awhile but I have no idea how to do things? Or where to start. I’m a bit of a perfectionist so I’ve mainly kept my stories and ideas to myself. Do you have any advice on how to start?

i have a bunch of storytelling tips in my advice tag, but the absolute best advice i can give you is to literally just start. try your hardest to let go of your perfectionist tendencies and remind yourself that this is a hobby and a creative/emotional outlet, not a job. the only person you need to cater to is yourself!! it always kills my soul to see someone give up on storytelling because they were too hard on themselves or compared themselves to other people and got discouraged. you have to be willing to be "bad" at something before you can ever become good at it (i have my gripes with calling art bad/good anyway but you know what i mean)

if you're anything like me, you'll probably be frustrated by the limitations of sim stories in the beginning. there were so many ideas i had to abandon because i didn't know how to make poses, objects, tattoos, etc. to make my visions come true. over the years i've learned SO MANY other skills that have helped me with storytelling, but you have to be patient with yourself and learn things one at a time. i have seen people get overwhelmed by trying to learn everything all at once and they think there's something wrong with them for not "getting it", when the truth is that a ton of us on simblr have been practicing for YEARS and are still learning every day (i've been here for six years and there's still so much stuff i'm in awe of people being able to do, because i have no idea how!) it's cheesy to say, but this is an art form like any other; we all start out with limited abilities and we develop more over time (example...)

to wrap this up: i would LOVE to see more new stories on simblr and i hope you'll give it a shot!! i would love to help you start in any way i can. if you need advice, if you need someone to make you some custom cc (within my skill set lol), quick poses, or editing help, etc. i would genuinely love to help you out. i would also love to just talk to you about your story/characters if you need someone to bounce ideas off of!! 💖

Textile Time: House of Dragons Season Two Opening Credits

It took nearly 2 years for House of Dragons to come back to us and yes, this post is a bit late with only one episode left of the season 😬 but I’m trying to embrace the "it's better late than never," and I'm working on being an im-perfectionist these days, so here we go.

A rush of excitement ran through me like an electric jolt as I heard the first notes of epic opening credits theme.

I settled in on the couch and to my utter delight, I saw not the expected template of blood spreading rapidly while fueling the mechanical architectural map of last season and GoT but a fabric becoming blood stained as it is digitally embroidered, threading a chronicle of Targaryen history (updated throughout the season) and expanding before our eyes.

What makes the new opening credits so stunning beyond the Targaryen content is the method in which the captivating digital embroidered effect, coined “threadification,” is executed by design studio yU+co’s 3D division. Kudos for taking a medieval art and a modern art form and created a striking Medieval-esque masterpiece.

The success of which can only be credited to the commitment in understanding the threading process and how it could be transformed into a digital media.

I embroider myself and am self-taught. It was something I picked up more than a year ago, so this truly hit the spot for me.

Research pays off

yU+co’s design team studied the embroidery process from the Game of Thrones Tapestry and examined the Apocalypse Tapestry. It comes as no surprise that the GoT show runner would pitch The Bayeux Tapestry as inspiration for yU+co. 

The Bayeux Tapestry is not a tapestry!, it is a 1,000 year old embroidery narrative depicting the series of events leading up to the Norman conquest of England in 1066, fought between William the Conqueror, Duke of Normandy and Harold, Earl of Wessex, later King of England.

Using this real world pictorial testimony of medieval war as a guide for the House of Dragons opening scenes only adds to the credibility and stellar execution.

Now a confession -

I was only this many years old when I found out about the existence of the Game of Thrones Tapestry😳. I thought I was a fan.. but apparently I was living under a rock because how did I miss this amazing piece of GoT content and art???!?

I believed the new opening credit sequence was completely original, as in no embroidery existed in the GoT world until HoD’s season two opening. Nevertheless, the opening credits are still amazing, still impressive, still educating people about the middle ages and how not dark they were.

Embroidery vs Tapestry

Magaret Wade Labarge in her article, "Stitches in Time: Medieval embroidery in its Social Setting," defines embroidery as:

"..the art of applying decoration by needle and thread to the surface of a piece of woven cloth, usually called the "ground." It is an optional decoration worked after the while weaving process, including the dyeing and finishing, has been completed."

When we look at the Bayeux Tapestry we clearly see the richly colored stitches embroidered on top of a cloth. The “design” is independent of the weave.

So why does this misnomer matter? Because knowledge is power or maybe not, but you never know when this topic will come up at a dinner party or when you might bump into Chris Helsworth.

But really why should you care? First of all, it's important not to take things at face value, like The Bayeux Tapestry. And also this visual record is an extraordinary piece of history. Do you know how difficult it is to find textiles that survive, let alone in this condition?

The Norman Conquest was a big deal in European History. French speaking Normans ended up conquering England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and even got to Southern Italy and Sicily! And, in doing so, they brought a wealth of new words, thousands of which are still used by us English speakers today.

Alright, so boom…I was listening to music (when I should’ve been napping) and the playlist was GIVING…

Coco Jones “ICU” came on and it gave me a story idea and I’ve been jotting down notes since. I tend to use my random gameplay moments to guide what happens in Melo’s story and so far it’s just been fun gameplay but it’s been helpful because my ideas end up coming full circle when I press play. It’s like reassurance honestly!

Anywho, I’ve been debating how I want to write Melo’s story for THEE longest. No, seriously...way longer than I should have. I'm a recovering perfectionist and an artist whose sensitive about her shit...or whatever, so this is an ongoing battle. Dialogue is always my biggest challenge because I know exactly how I want the scene to go but I get confuzzled on who should say what and how etc…Issa work in progress and practice makes better. Right? So there’s that! But I am slowly working on his mini series/story. Emphasis on mini series because my brain gets overwhelmed when things don't have an end date. It’s literally been living rent free (with many renditions) in my notebook for damn near 3 years now. 😳

I'm prepping to do my bi-annual cc clean and prepping for the new update (once it's safe to update all the cc tings) but I have a title and have sorta kinda mapped out how many "chapters" this mini series will have. I've had to slowly start a new save for him because of the lag and I want to get into downloading more builds from the gallery and cc-ifying them myself and/or building sets myself. My pinterest board is full of ideas at this point but I'm excited.

1. Alpha CC or Maxis Match? I used to be hardcore Maxis Match but I am getting into Maxis Mix these days because of the characterization you can achieve with skin details and eyes. 

2. What’s your favourite sims death? Few deaths are as good as the Mummy’s Curse in Sims 3. Honorable mentions go to pufferfish nigiri and deathl-scented flower arrangements for hot babes that do murder.

3. Do you cheat when your sims gain weight? I’ve had a vain sim buy the insta-lean reward before, but I hated the result so I haven’t used it since. Other than that, no.

4. Do you use move objects? Who doesn’t???

5. Favorite mod? I’ve been playing this game waaaay too long to have just one favorite, lol. If I have to choose just one to feature right now… TOOL, maybe? But the Nraas suite from the Sims 3 days is also a contender. 

6. First expansion/game/stuff pack you got? Of all time, Livin’ Large, of course. I usually get the first expansion for each installment of the series. I got all of the Sims 4 expansions at once, though. 

7. Do you pronounce “live mode” like aLIVE or Living? Live as in alive. Sorry, folks.

8. Have you made a simself? I tried once but it looked nothing like me. I’m not really a simself kind of player. 

9. Who’s your favorite sim that you’ve made? Come onnnn don’t ask me thisssss. If we’re talking completely from scratch, I have to say Biagio. I think Luisa is a really good-looking sim, but she’s technically based on her Sims 3 counterpart who was born in-game. 

10. What sim traits do you give yourself? If I have to pick just 3 traits from Sims 4, it’s probably Art Lover, Perfectionist, and Jealous.

11. Which is your favorite EA hair color? Probably platinum blonde? Or possibly the brown and gray for added townie flavor.

12. Favorite EA hair? I really couldn’t tell you. It’s probably a male hair. A lot of CC male hair is a little too K-pop for my taste.

13. Are you a builder or are you in it for the gameplay? I like a healthy mix of both, but I’m bad at building so it gives me anxiety. That’s when I set the game down and walk away for several months. 🙃

14. Favorite life stage? None! I play on really long lifespans and it’s a joy to watch a sim go through them all. 

15. Are you a CC creator? I’ve recolored things for myself and make my own poses, but I don’t follow any quality control so I don’t share them. 

16. Do you have any simblr friends/a sim squad? Not really. :( Most of my mutuals from the Sims 3 era seem to have retired. Shout out to the people that do consistently interact with my stuff. <3 I’m trying to be more active so I can connect with people again. 

17. What’s your favorite game? (1, 2, 3, or 4)  They’re all special in their own way! If I have to pick, it’s a toss-up between 2 and 3. Sims 2 had some of the last really EXCELLENT writing of the series, and Sims 3 is still undefeated in terms of sandbox gameplay. 

18. Do you have any sims merch? No, lol. I think I had that USB at one point. No idea what happened to that. 

19. Do you have a YouTube for sims? No, but I want one!!

20. How has your “sim style” changed throughout your years of playing? I used to play strictly one family legacy-style on normal lifespans, trying to get as many generations as possible. Now I like to take more time with my characters to develop them. Now I play extreeeemely long lifespans and rotate between many families.

Little bullet point headcanon dump beneath the cut.

Just generally adores and is very adept with music in general. Playing instruments, writing music, singing, dancing—it's her life's passion.

Her primary instrument is the flute, but she learns a number over the course of her life.

Dance-wise, started out in ballet at a very, very young age and then branched out from there. Still skilled at ballet, but generally prefers partnered dances.

As a music teacher, is very supportive and funny, but very no-bullshit when it comes to acting out. Not mean, but if she threatens getting sent out of the room/etc she means it.

A perfectionist to the extreme. Has perfected her Look (makeup, fashion, hair), won't perform unless she's perfected the piece, etc etc etc. If you're thinking "Boy, that sure mirrors your William," you're right. (Is it funnier if it was an accident?)

Moves with intention and purpose. Could probably be described as moving "like a dancer."

Despite where things end up, she's a wonderful mother prior to the Worst of Things. Extremely affectionate and doting and adores her kids regardless of the circumstances.

Leaves the orchestra after hearing about CC's death. She never goes back to it.

Where things go for her post-William's disappearance is up in the air. In canon verse, she probably eventually starts working at a music school. I am definitely not opposed to AUs that involve her more significantly in stopping William/ending Fazb.ear Entertainment/etc. This franchise needs more women involved!

Yes, exactly! I am going to offer a very personal perspective: I cannot work due to mental health issues and I feel so guilty about it all the time. So I try to "work for the Simblr community" instead. I share my knowledge and offer my help with CC creation, I occasionally manage to publish some CC, too. But if I fail at those things, I feel that guilt again, and it is even worse, because I cannot succeed in doing what I love.

I realized very early in life that I cannot force myself to do stuff I do not want (I cannot motivate myself to do it, at all). Thus, I have always gravitated towards things I love because those were the things I could actually work on.

I feel frustrated when I get little recognition for my very niche content (mainly creating patterns for TS3), but others in more popular areas (making conversions, etc.) get a lot more notes and reblogs. It's not that I actively chose to publish only patterns, it kinda happened. I found that creating a pattern is the right project size that I can manage to actually finish (it is still a struggle to fix mistakes though, that is not fun, but my perfectionism demands it). I used to create meshes too; ambitious projects, but that is currently not possible for me anymore due to my mental health issues. I am a perfectionist, very likely have ADHD (still undiagnosed), and have severe executive dysfunction and anxiety. This combo makes it nearly impossible to finish a project or publish Custom Content. I often question myself, wondering what I am doing wrong and how I can overcome my problems (but there is no simple solution). I know one aspect of it is that I am not consistent or reliable, but everything in the world seems to be built on consistency, algorithms favor it and people come to even expect it, especially if you want a bit of pocket change for your efforts. People happily join your Patreon, but it seems like you have to deliver like clockwork. It's really tough if you cannot fulfill that demand but still want to be recognized and get an occasional donation for your efforts. I have to specifically ask for donations to offset the perpetual costs for my website which I publish most of my CC on, and that I am very emotionally attached to (and I have to explain myself every time and deal with people who say I should not have a paid website or switch to a cheaper provider, etc.) I'm also not a person who likes to wave donation buttons all the time in people's faces... Once a year, I attempt to make my yearly Advent Calendar. It's become a thing and I know that people love it, but I get so burnt out every time after it and cannot create for weeks or even months after it. It stresses me out so much, but I want to power through to show myself I am not a complete failure. But still every year, I fear what may happen if I cannot get it done. If I have to stop halfway. If I cannot keep it up. If I cannot even achieve that one project in an entire year. Nobody forces me, nobody even expects me to. I have the nicest followers of all, they are so kind and patient. But I feel like if I cannot deliver at least that, I'm letting myself and everyone else down. This will sound super cheesy and delusional maybe, and few people would even admit it, but I secretly dream of making an official CC pack or some other big project that people will recognize me for. I was mediocre in everything my whole life, in school, in sports (okay, I was even less than mediocre there)... I want to excel at something and be recognized in a big way for it. I know I have potential (I think everyone does), but lack the consistency, discipline, and mental stability to work towards making them a reality.

Behind every creator, there is a real human being, not a machine. And you never really know what is going on in their lives.

It makes me really sad that sometimes, creators get all thrown into the same pot and called greedy just for wanting a little recognition or money for their efforts. You never know what it truly means for someone to get a donation. What it means to see my content get used and praised by people who enjoy playing with it. What it means to maybe one day be able to buy a new graphics card from all the donations you received over the years on Patreon. Especially for someone who has never had a proper job before and does not know the joy of getting a paycheck you feel like you truly earned.

I wonder how it feels like to get more than the bare minimum in donations so you can actually feel like you earned something, not just offset all the costs.

Do not get me wrong, I feel very blessed that I can scrape together the necessary donations to keep my website going. In that situation, there are very generous donations coming in and I am super grateful for them!

But I sometimes wish for more. Just like any other human being should be fairly compensated for their efforts, I want that, too. I think society and also communities are so weird for discriminating against what kind of effort deserves what kind of payment. And apparently, CC creation is deemed as not worthy of being paid. You are basically a scumbag in some people's eyes for wanting money in exchange for working hours and hours on CC (even those who do not put up paywalls. I do not endorse paywalled CC, let me be clear on that). But for lots of other side hustles it's okay to want to get paid. Most people are willing to pay for painting commissions and hand-knitted sweaters, but in the Sims community (the Sims 3 one especially), it is considered the worst offense to ask for money if you are creating CC. Most of the people who think that way also think all CC creators can and should work other jobs. Alas, that's not always the case. Maybe these people have no concept of what it means to not be able to work. Not having ever experienced that must be really nice though.

Well, that is the reason why I never ask for more than I need for the website. It hurts too much to be called greedy when people truly have no idea what is going on, why I would want that, or what it means. But now you know a little more about what it would mean to me.

I am part of the Sims community because I love how the Sims games bring people together and foster creativity. I love the meditative process of creating, and the feeling of overcoming a challenge. And I love the excited comments and messages from followers and interacting with them. I feel at home here. I am a teacher at heart, and it gives my life meaning to be able to help others achieve their goals. Not being able to fulfill your calling, your innermost desires, your goals you want to achieve because you want to feel worth something can be devastating at times.

But still, here I am, trying.

I think it's time to stop shaming creators for wanting acknowledgement or recognition and for wanting to be seen. It's not wrong or shameful for someone to want external validation when they share something they've made. We share things because we want others to see, and if it appears that no one does, then that can be demotivating and defeating and doesn't encourage more creativity at the end of the day.

But a lot of people are preaching the "do it for yourself" gospel, and part of that is gaslighting people into thinking that if they seek any kind of external validation whatsoever for their creation, then their motivation is wrong, which in turn is the reason for their dissatisfaction.

It's a whole other story if somebody's sole motivation is to create content for public consumption just to become popular or internet famous, or to go viral. I'm not talking about those people. I'm talking about authentic creators who struggle with feeling unseen in online spaces as well as being invisible everywhere offline too. People who don't feel they're being acknowledged in their real, offline lives will sometimes seek acknowledgement from "their people", i.e. people in online communities who share many of the same interests as them.

While I agree that the first and foremost reason for creating something should be the creator's own desire and motivation to create the thing, it's not as simple as that. None of us creates in a vacuum. None of us can thrive indefinitely on our own ideas or subsist indefinitely on only self-validation. People do need encouragement from others and at least the sense that they're not simply tossing their creations into an empty void when sharing them. It's okay to want commentary and feedback. It's natural to want that, and it's natural to need it.

No one should get to tell anyone else that wanting external validation is wrong, because it isn't. No one should get to tell anyone they should be ashamed of seeking attention or validation. No one should be shamed for wanting someone to pay attention to their creation.

Get to Know Me_Sims Edition

got tagged by @olya-occult-lover and @van-yangyin, thank you for the tags :D I have a tendency to ramble so this is gonna be a long text post so feel free to skip this if you don't feel like reading.

1. What’s your favorite sims death?

Ngl, I personally find death iffy when it comes to playing Sims since I get way too attached to my characters so much that I never get past Generation 2 while playing the game with the Aging off. xD The most bearable death in the game that's okay with me would have to be the Drowning Death Moodlet since it reminds me of the first Sims game. (tho even back then I'd rather take care of sims than kill them at all) Any time one of my sims gets a dying moodlet, I internally panic and make sure that they evade death by all means possible. (I ensured each of my played sims have death flowers in their inventories as well as those different items that make them immune to death)

2. Alpha or Maxis Match CC?

Both! I never understood the war between the two styles since they're both just CC to me. Basically, if I like something then I like it. Both have their unique characteristics and their flaws. No need to match it with the game since no matter what one does, your character will stick out anyway thanks to the custom content itself. That being said, I like both as long as they aren't unnecessarily high-poly.

3. Do you cheat when your sims gain weight?

Back when I was a kid I used to, thanks to my own personal challenge with body dysmorphia so I never had a healthy relationship with weight. Now older, I don't have a problem with it at all with my sims since I now know it's just a normal part of life.

4. Do you use move objects?

Of course! I doubt anyone would ever build without using that cheat. It's basically essential at this point.

5. Favorite mod?

Any mods from Gauntlet101010 and @baniduhaine :D I fell in love with Gauntlet's work through their Grim Reaper mods very early back then since no one else at the time catered to occults. And now, I really like baniduhaine's work since they also cater to a lot of things that occults really lack in-game (their occult bloodlines mods and plantsim mods are just <3 ) If you're a big fan of occults, please check out their work! They're really neat!

6. First expansion/game/stuff pack you got?

I remember buying Cat and Dogs first if I remember correctly??? Not sure tbh at this point since it's been a long time. But at this point, I prefer other means asides from buying now. If you get it, you get it ;)

aLive. I would liken it to how a reporter would say, "We're now live." Though I am unaware if there is a correct way of saying it in the first place. But if there is, feel free to enlighten me :)

...this is a difficult question... it's like being asked which one's your favorite child. So how can I possibly choose? But since that is not at all the case, and hopefully my characters stay fictional it would be the rundown of the following in no particular order: Pancakes, Bacon, Hamburger, Chocolate Chip Cookie, Mixed Berry Milk, Ice Cream (Cone), Sugar Cookie, Cow's Milk, Bear Burger, Strawberry Shortcake, Goth Burger, and... *proceeds to list the rest of the Food Sims Series Cast*

In recent years no. The last time I did was back when I used to play Sims 1. I was never fond of making real-life people. Characters, on the other hand...

Whatever you call this hair color?? Also, I got carried away with editing so uhh, enjoy? (Yes in the photos are Pancakes and Chocolate Chip Cookie testing out the in-game hairs...and yes they do look quite cursed as blondes so I rather imagine them testing out wigs for a play or something.)

Typically Young Adult. I also don't mind Teen, or Adult. And when I do make Elders, I kinda make sure they don't die lmao. I was never that attached to the kids, infants, or toddlers life stages unless they're the love child of my Sims.

14. Are you a builder or are you in it for the gameplay?

Despite its non-existence, I was originally there for the gameplay then I got into building. (But since I poured all my efforts into CAS these recent years, I've forgotten how to build now smh)

15. Are you a CC creator?

I am :) though I mainly specialize in headgear accessories. I find it a necessity nowadays to know how to create my own Custom Content as I'm never content with my sims unless I reach what I envision for them. Not to mention the lack of CC that caters to my personal tastes which makes it even harder to stay as a simmer that is only a gamer. I guess I could say that I became a creator solely out of necessity. Though that doesn't mean I don't enjoy the process of creating. On another note, maybe one of these days, I'll try learning how to make hair or clothing since there are still concepts there that I wish was available for Sims 4.

16. Do you have any simblr friends/a sim squad?

Do my mutuals count??? There are a handful out there that I am very fond of although we never had a proper conversation. Then there are those that I did talk to and I apologize for the experience of talking with me since I am not very good at socializing asides from comments. I wish I could talk to my mutuals more but I become too nervous conversing in real time that I sometimes just nope out of the conversation. If this happened while we're speaking, it's not you, it's most definitely me lol

What Remains of Edith Finch, The Stanley Parable, The Beginner's Guide, The Sims, Cube Escape & Rusty Lake Series. (I mainly stick to narrative-oriented games or point-and-click adventures)

It changed a lot. I won't say that my style got better or anything like that as that would do past me a disservice. I think it's fairer to say that my style got more fantasy-oriented when I began to understand the available CC resources that I had. My Before Simstyle is probably around 2017-2020 while my current sim style is now 2021-present. Ngl, if I ever get back into actually playing Sims 4, I'd probably use less CC similar to my sim style previously.

One is not better than the other, it's just heavily dependent on what mood I feel like when I create sims.

23. How long have you had a simblr?

I joined the Sims Community around 2020 I believe? Though at the time, I only stuck to the Sims 4 Studio Website. I think I've had this account since November of 2021 though I only started posting in January 2022. This account was only supposed to be a way for me to keep track of CC creators... I didn't expect to turn into a CC creator myself.

24. How do you edit your pictures?

I take photos using Geforce Experience while simultaneously using Reshade and CAS Lighting to achieve the best results. Then I go edit the photos in Photoshop or Canva. I also recommend using Nvidia Inspector to help fix the Graphics in Sims 4 to make it look better.

Honestly I feel like Iris needs a friend, someone who she can trust and vent to, someone who won’t feel the need to justify stuff about how story was hurting too, just a friend who she can cry in front of and finally spill our everything that is hurting her, including the fact that she can’t get pregnant at the moment. Also I know James is going trough a lot with his ptsd but I was reading you were holding her and I was so mad with the way he said that story was the one taking care of posie when Iris couldn’t bare to look at the baby like WHAT THE FUCK YOU ASSHOLE that’s your wife you’re talking about ?????? Do you think she choose to have postpartum depression and not being able to properly take care of her daughter????? He made me so mad I swear to god! I understand he cares about story and is worried about her but the fact that his wife is struggling mentally and going through so many things regarding her fertility and he isn’t realizing that she is not alright because he is too busy being worried about her sister is just not doing it to me. You're not wrong. Iris needs an outsider to an extent. Her friendships have always been based around Aster. Most of their friends were guys, and most those guys hurt Story. She has turned to her other family a lot during this time. Especially the Adler/Levinson side. And who does she have there? We also know that Iris does like sex a bit more rough (there will be some insight to this tomorrow 😉)

James definitely didn't react well to that. Iris, like her mother, is a big believer in therapy. So don't worry those two are going to work on learning better communication skills. They're both struggling and going through so much individually it's hard for them to be what the other needs. And Iris is a perfectionist. On the outside she will act like everything is okay, and on the inside she's hurting so much more than she's showing.

But Iris does find a friend in Little Princess (much to Ari's chagrin). For age references, Little Princess is around 40 at this point, Ari is 62, and Curtis is 51. Iris is 26.

You open the door to see Ari's youngest niece Iris there. Ari had explained that it was complicated what was going on in her life, and had mentioned the weird relationship with her, Frank, and Ransom. You had met her a few times and even her family. Despite the past, everyone is relatively close. But seeing her there, without her daughter, as she quickly tells you, "She's at my parents. James is at Carter's. Can I come in?"

You open the door for the dainty girl, walking her to the living room, you can't hide that chair fast enough. Iris's eyes go wide, and you just pretend that nothing happened. "What cha doing sweetheart?"

"I just needed to get away for a moment. Thought Uncle Airy or CC would be here."

"I'm sorry, they're not. CC is still at the station, but Ari should be here soon. Are you sure there's nothing wrong?" you watch her flop down on the couch with a huff and she starts to talk about everything that's happened since her sister went missing.

Her words coming out in almost a long slur and you just listen. Her talking about how she feels that Andy has poisoned her blood, and how she can't get pregnant, and it must be all her fault. How she wants to forgive her sister, but for whatever reason she can't. The conversation going on forever, and you just sit there listening.

"Can I give you a hug?" tears spring to her eyes when she nods her head yes. Ari coming in at the moment confused, but chooses to walk into the bedroom to change quickly.

"Um, Y/N?" she asks with a bit of curiosity, and you hope that he doesn't hear. Ari always hears. "What's the deal with the chair?"

"That's enough. Iris, you want to stay for dinner? We'll order pizza."

The night goes by easy. Curtis has his least favorite shift and doesn't return, until much later. Iris already fast asleep on the couch when he arrives. But when Ari leads you to the bedroom, his dark eyes looking over you. "You'll pay for her seeing that chair."

"I didn't think who was at the door was coming in, Daddy."

"Still getting punished. Curtis won't save you. And if you mention anything about our lifestyle...well."

He never gave you the answer, so it's fair game to talk if she asks, right?

10. Is your story fully planned or are you still working things out? Is there a definitive end?

A lot of my story is fully fledged out. I spend a lot of time thinking over everything, and am quite the perfectionist when it comes to my writing. For me, every detail needs to make sense, as if it could actually happen. None of the tragedy or drama that comes to pass in my story happens 'just because' or 'for reactions and likes'. There is a reason for each and every moment, and it takes months for me to ensure if the events could be plausible. And for that to come to pass, it takes a lot of time and planning.

As of right now, there is no definitive end. My story goes at a very slow pace so I have the opportunity to really dive deep into the story. No flying through decades just to get to a new generation of sims on this tumblr page. I want to tell people the story of these characters I spend so much of my life with. They are such unique individuals, each with their own journey to share, and if I'm fast forwarding through a series of several years at a time, readers never truly get to relate and understand the characters they read about. Storytelling is an incredible tool, and I do not want to waste an opportunity to really give my readers a story worth telling. <3

11. Why have you decided to tell this story? Are there any messages or meanings within it?

I started to tell this story at the start of the pandemic. I was in the process of working on another story I've been playing around with for over a decade, but was struggling with the dialogue. I was also very into playing Sims at the time, especially as I could not leave my room for hours on end while my flatmates worked from home. While I was downloading cc, I came across my first sims story, and thought to myself: 'I never thought to do this...maybe I should give it a shot, not to mention, I could use this as a chance to improve my dialogue writing."

And that's where I started. I created a new story, new characters, and tested the waters. I was uncertain at first, but then as my characters began to tell me their story, everything just started to flow.

As for any messages and meanings? Yes, there are a few. But none I can say too much about at the moment. A big message and meaning will come from Eleanor's storyline in chapter eight (those of you that have been around and reading my story before I accidentally deleted my blog).

Eleanor is a character I am deeply passionate about, because while see appears quiet and timid, she is so much more. The only problem?She is currently unable to see it. The other aspect of her character I am eager to explore is dealing with her emotions surrounding her pregnancy. Those who have been here will know she's a woman terrified of being pregnant, as well as the day when she will give birth. I wanted to explore a women who doesn't like the idea of being pregnant, rather than a woman who is beyond happy of the news. To explore the emotions of women in general who share those same feelings. But unfortunately, that will have to wait until I get my story back up and running once more.

21. Choose your least favourite shot so far.

I lost a lot of the photos I originally had, but of the ones I have at the moment, I would have to say this one. It did not turn out like I had hoped. I suppose one of the few things that comes from accidentally deleting my blog is the fact I have a chance to redo some of these scenes (sorry for those triggered by the events of this part of the story....or am I? ;) )

I hate (love) when i want to dress a sim a certain way for an edit and i have the perfect cc, but it doesn't have a swatch that matches what i want, so i exit the entire game to quickly add 1 swatch but then i end up making 10 other swatches cause i am a perfectionist and i cant just do things for the heck of it and now i have a whole new .package seprate from the original thats just recolors in my style .

i tried to figure out the enneagram types of dream smp characters

have you ever wanted to know the enneagram types, and therefore motivations and fears, of your favorite dream smp characters? that’s a rhetorical question. don’t answer. this post contains a quick explanation of the enneagram and an analysis for every included character. i’m just gonna put it all under the cut.

i’d absolutely love to hear your thoughts!

ENNEAGRAM EXPLANATION

a quick low-down on the enneagram, for those who don’t know:

the enneagram actually refers to a funky circular graph, numbers 1-9 on the outside that depict 9 different personality types. each type is adjacent to two other types around the circle (see image for clarification). the two types on either side are the possible wings for that specific type, a wing being an additional set of personality traits alongside the main personality type. an enneagram type is written as [type]w[wing]. for example, my enneagram type is 4, and i have a type 5 wing, so my enneagram type is 4w5.

(the lines through the inside of the enneagram won’t be mentioned in this post, but you can find more information on them online if you’re curious. i won’t link anything because links can be sketchy)

the nine enneagram types are mostly easily explained by their basic fears and basic desires. the enneagram is intended to explain the “why” behind someone’s actions, which is why it’s so hard to type someone else. you cannot get inside their head to find out their true motivations. however, today i am working with entirely fictional characters and not the content creators themselves, so i give myself a free pass. please don’t go around psychoanalyzing your friends or people you don’t even know and jumping to conclusions without their input lol

also all of these are just what i think ! if you (respectfully) disagree, i would actually love to hear your opinions - you are probably right and i am probably wrong.i don’t watch every stream or even know of every event, and my reasoning is probably weak at best. enough rambling, here we goooo

the grouping will be by type, just because… idk how else to organize this.

type 1: the reformer

principled, purposeful, self-controlled, perfectionistic

desire: to be good, to have integrity

tubbo - type 1w2

tubbo is a classic example of a type 1 being put into the worst possible situation for their current mental state. tubbo was the moral and sensical anchor for tommy’s more eccentric and self-centered actions, and they functioned as this duo UNTIL tubbo was made the president of l’manberg. tubbo’s more self-critical tendencies were amplified because his actions had so much weight. tubbo is quick to turn against and polarize those he sees as “evil”, making broad generalizations like “technoblade is wrong” and “tommy is good”, regardless of all the moral gray areas, and even changes his mind drastically between them as he seeks the right answer. (ex: exiles tommy, but then decides it was the wrong idea, and now seems to agree with everything he says again.) i think part of his flip-flopping comes from a sense of people-pleasing and generosity, again amplified by his position as the (now former) president of a nation.

type 2: the helper

generous, demonstrative, people-pleasing, possessive

desire: to feel loved/appreciated

quackity - type 2w3

(as far as i know) quackity’s first major action on the smp was to run for president. wilbur and tommy wanted quackity (as part of swag 2020) to share the votes of the two parties in order to ensure a victory over schlatt. however, quackity acted out against them because he felt used instead of appreciated for his ideas. schlatt promised him at least some amount of respect, so quackity switched sides regardless of what was better for the smp at large. i believe quackity kept looking for approval from others, but also some sense of accomplishment, by founding mexican l’manberg (is this even canon…idk but i liked it), starting the butcher army, and trying to bring schlatt back to life. quackity even fought technoblade despite being grossly unqualified and i believe this is due to the martyr mindset that often comes with unhealthy type 2s. 

type 3: the achiever

adaptable, excelling, driven, image-conscious

desire: to feel valuable

nihachu - type 3w2

(at the time of writing this, niki hasn’t had a ton of canon screentime, so this is mostly based off of the doomsday stream.) when in emotional distress, niki applies her type 3 ideas of being the best she can be to others, hyperfocusing on “teaching them a lesson” by destroying l’manberg. unhealthy 3s also tend to become jealous of other people’s happiness and success to the point they attempt to destroy it, perhaps explaining how niki’s character felt that no one wanted to listen to what she had to say about the political state of things. i see niki as a character that values her image in relation to others, hence the 2 wing. when fundy showed her respect, she became even more sure of herself, and this seems to be the kind of thing she is after.

schlatt - type 3w4

much like ghostbur (as mentioned later), schlatt is a very exaggerated character. it’s hard to type him, because the enneagram focuses around people who behave in the way real people do, and schlatt is a larger-than-life villain. i’ve typed schlatt as a 3 because of his narcissistic tendencies. schlatt not only wanted to be but believed he was integral to l’manberg’s continued function. unhealthy 3s tend to be devious and manipulative in order to hide their own wrongdoing, like how schlatt exiled the main opponents of his rule. schlatt doesn’t have the emotional introspection of a 4, only the temperamental self-absorption, but i think this is the best i can do lol

type 4: the individualist

expressive, dramatic, self-absorbed, temperamental

desire: to be significant, to find identity

tommy - type 4w5

most of my reasoning for tommy’s typing comes from his time in exile. tommy displayed an impressive connection to his emotions, maybe just out of necessity because he was alone. his constant cry was that no one cares about him, but not in the way a 2 may fear the same thing. tommy feared he had faded from significance. when he felt this way, he was quick to make rash conclusions and decisions. he is self-centered, caring more about his discs than about anything on the server. the 5 wing is there because of tommy’s constant assertion that people pity him when they show basic human kindness. he dreads others viewing him as incapable.

type 5: the investigator

perceptive, innovative, secretive, isolated

desire: to be capable and competent

awesamdude: type 5w6

is sam incredibly important to the plot? not as i write this. but i don’t want to leave type 5 empty. sam does cool redstone and built a cool prison. he’s super swag. i’m too lazy to attempt to do an analysis. this is just what i believe to be the objective truth on his character. give sam your primes.

type 6: the loyalist

engaging, responsible, anxious, suspicious

desire: to have security and support

wilbur (alivebur) - type 6w5

(pls disagree with me on this. this was so hard and i didn’t start watching dream smp until after the original “it wasn’t meant to be” moment sjkdfadkl) it’s right in the l’manberg national anthem. a place men could go to emancipate the brutality of their rulers. wilbur created l’manberg for what i interpret as security reasons. a peaceful land without americans. as an american, i understand completely. wilbur demonstrates the tendency of 6’s to shun outsiders and to turn to hysterical violence in times of distress. wilbur’s final action before his death was to blow up his safe place, because he believed the security had been tainted. i have typed wilbur with a 5 wing almost exclusively because of the intentionally radical beliefs that unhealthy 5s exhibit, becoming obsessed with blowing up the place he once called home.

type 7: the enthusiast

spontaneous, versatile, distractible, scattered

desire: to be satisfied and content, to avoid pain

fundy - type 7w6

fundy grew up in constant distress, what with his dad kinda losing it and the constant political turmoil. fundy has acknowledged that there is nothing that comes from conflict except for personal gain. fundy is selfish (taking netherite meant for everyone, hardly taking other people’s feelings into account) by nature of the society he was born into. like most distressed 7s, he has mood swings and comes off as demanding. i gave fundy a 6 wing because of what i see as the origin of his issues: a lack of support and stability. because of this, fundy often seeks external solutions (material possessions) instead of internal ones (fucking THERAPY OH MY GOD).

type 8: the challenger

self-confident, decisive, willful, confrontational

desire: to protect themselves, to be in control of their own life

dream - type 8w7

(warning, a lot of this typing is based on my own theories about the smp, because dream doesn’t stream rp to give us his own perspective.) dream claims that his motivation, at least presently, is to cause as much chaos as possible, but this has to come from a more philosophical place. dream is the one who started the server, and, i believe, canonically created the world they all populate. dream’s rule was originally questioned by the creation of l’manberg, which he interpreted as a personal attack. as a type 8 would, he is attempting to destroy all that does not conform to the vision he has for a peaceful, unified server. this may make it seem like dream should have 9 wing, but i don’t believe stability factors into his reasoning. dream seeks fun, for himself and others, and also finds this by causing chaos, as mentioned before.

technoblade - type 8w7

now, just because techno and dream have the same enneagram typing here does not mean they are at all similar. techno also lashes out at things that do not conform to his vision (anarchy) but has a stronger connection to his 7 wing. he wants to protect himself because of the comfort and happiness that would provide, not exclusively to be in control. he cares more about the pain and suffering caused by the government. still, i don’t think techno’s primary motivation is to be happy, as he still causes harm and puts himself in danger in order to achieve his goals. when a type 7 would become depressed and isolated, techno decides to spawn six withers. to each their own.

type 9: the peacemaker

receptive, reassuring, agreeable, complacent

desire: to have inner stability, to avoid loss

ghostbur - type 9w1

more than anyone on the server, ghostbur is a two-dimensional character. (absolutely not meant in a negative way. i adore ghostbur as both comic relief and a consistent character. ghostbur simply doesn’t behave like a normal person, and that is the point.) this makes it difficult to type him, but i tried my best. ultimately, ghostbur cares about others, but not in the way a 2 does. blatant negativity from people he interacts with doesn’t affect him in the slightest. he hands out blue because he is good, hence the 1 wing, and not to be loved. the only time (i can remember) that ghostbur has expressed anger was when friend the sheep was killed in techno and dream’s terrorism upon l’manberg. loss is the only thing he seems to be afraid of, and he applies this to all people within the smp. 

philza - type 9w8

to put it nicely, philza is a mediator. to put it not-so nicely, he doesn’t give a fuck. philza has actually achieved much of the goals a 9 has, making him an anomaly on the smp. (most every one of these characters expresses extremely unhealthy characteristics of their type.) philza is accepting of others, and does more listening than speaking. however, philza still feels the effects of loss from murdering his own son in cold blood (just minecraft things <3) and presumably fears losing something else important to him, thus forming few attachments (ex: didn’t care his house in l’manberg got blown up, didn’t react much to tommy’s betrayal.) i typed him as a wing 8 because of his healthy self-confidence and confrontationalism.

please keep in mind that this is all referring to the dream smp characters these streamers portray. i don’t claim to know anything about their deeper philosophical reasoning for whatever they do irl. not really on that parasocial type beat, ya feel me? i would love to hear your thoughts.

I am still working on my sims 4 series and I discovered that being a perfectionist is not always a good thing... every detail must be how I want it. To take a break I decided to go into CAS and play around.

Meet Corinna. Her story is rather simple. She comes from a family that always found themselves in the outdoors. When she was still in diapers, she was beside her mom in the garden while her dad was always finding something to build or fix. Growing up, she could never be found indoors the minute the sun was up. Spring is always Corinna’s favourite time because she loves to watch all her hard-work start to grow. That doesn’t mean she doesn’t take some time to be alone and go for a warm springtime walk.

Perhaps one of my random CAS creations will become a character later in the series... oh decisions, decisions.

I am this close to wanting to switch all my default EA hair colours to Witching Hour ones, but I can’t, because I’m already a perfectionist about so many things when it comes to my CC, and I can’t honestly stand the idea of trying to recolour a bajillion package files or download/make new ones/recolours for all of them. X) It already drives me nuts when I have CC that doesn’t match the EA default swatches, let alone adding new/different default colours to the mix. 😅
