this is something i haven't touched upon in any of my writings, but am eager to bring to fruition -> i view barty as eastern european

you give me a dark-haired, thick-browed, chaotic, loud, incredibly welcoming and loyal to those he loves, avid drinker and smoker, i will tell you he is eastern-european

i am not necessarily particular about which eastern-european country, but personally i am partial to romanian

this is partly because it's the nationality that fits best with the rest of my hcs (as it's a romantic language in eastern-europe, surrounded by slavic nations), because i think the stereotypes work well for barty's characterisation while also not putting him too much in a box (unlike for example russian) and i can just see it

romanian pet-names i think he'd use: Dragă (dear), Inimioară (heart), Buburuză (ladybug), Soare (sun), Pisicuță (kitten), mami (lol)

i will also accept polish (known in europe for being high-energy and off the rockers), moldavian (alcohol is part of their blood) and bosnian (good-hearted, explosive temper)

specifically, i think his mother was eastern-european and his father was english; his mother tongue was romanian but they primarily lived in england because of his father, thus he went to hogwarts instead of durmstrang

because he is so fond of his mother, i believe barty feels a rather strong connection to his eastern-european culture and it's definitely something he brings up/jokes about a lot

this all ties into another important hc i have for barty, which is that he is The Polyglot TM -> and provides the reasoning for why (apart from the fact that he is freakishly intelligent)

growing up, his father was neglectful and rarely spoke to barty unless it was to scold him. romanian became barty's native language because he was only ever truly raised by his mother.

thus, i think he struggled with english quite a bit in the start, because he was not exposed to it to the same degree

when crouch senior used barty's lack of fluency in english against him, taunting him, barty experienced his first act of rebellion/spite by ensuring he became so fucking good at english

it was not enough for him to become fluent, he needed to be a master of it, even learning many different accents (which he often pull out for a joke or a party trick btw. suddenly he's just speaking with a heavy derry accent)

both to a) show off and 2) prove his father wrong

as he grew a bit older (all still pre-hogwarts), the thought of being so connected to his father's language kind of soured for him, and to counter act that, he decided to pick up as many eastern-european languages as he possibly could

barty is nothing if not petty, fuelled by spite for his father

thus, he learned russian (very common language in eastern-europe), moldovan (neighbouring country to romania), hungarian (neighbour) and serbian (neighbour)

most of the slavic languages are fairly similar, so once you learn one, it is "easier" to learn the others, especially at a young age

by the time barty started hogwarts, i think he was fluent in 6 languages already, toying with a few others

when he befriended regulus in his first year and found out he was french, his reaction was immediately "oh guess i've gotta learn french now too!"

both to know what regulus was saying and so that the two of them could talk shit together

as a romance language, it was fairly easy for barty as a romanian to adapt to it, which is also how he throughout his time at hogwarts also learned spanish and italian. maybe latin?

barty is intelligent, out-of-pocket, spiteful and loyal; thus he is the epitome of an eastern-european polyglot

i think it's also canon that barty received 12 owls? that is a piece of canon i am 100% compliant with. he is just wired like that, he is the type who does not need to study for it and loves to flaunt that in others' faces

lastly, while i often depict barty as aloof and careless, i view this as the persona/facade he is putting on for protection. i genuinely believe barty is so terribly vulnerable and has some grade A meltdowns during his time at hogwarts

i don't want to say outright that i hc him as someone with borderline, but i will say that my partner has borderline and kins him for that exact reason so. do with that what you will

the only people who truly get to see this is the skittles, you, his mother and james potter on one unfortunate evening (which led to him understanding and respecting barty like never before)

evan

first and most obvious: twins with pandora

he was born 12 minutes after her, though i don't view them as the type to argue about "oldest"

visually, i have always imagined them to be almost identical (sometimes one of them are hc-ed as trans and they are identical twins, but i think regardless that they have the same face, height and size)

absolutely angelic, ethereal creatures -> all sharp angles (in their faces, sharp teeth, almost fox-like) and large contrasts (dark skin, blonde dreadlocks & very white teeth, big noses and thin eyebrows)

the twins have hetereochromia -> one green eye and one brown and yellow (again with the contrasts)

evan is also a very contrasting figure between his looks and personality; i see him as an incredibly beautiful, almost feminine person who has a primal, stoic personality

the type of face that makes others' jaws go slack while his tightens painfully at their reactions

i have seen others hc that evan is called a "doll" by everyone because of his looks and i think that does something to him mentally over time

it sent him to a quiet, dark place before he found true comfort and belonging with the skittles -> by seventh year, i think they had made it into an inside joke

stoic in the sense that he does not speak before he has thought over his words extensively and his face is in a constant deadpan, not letting anything slip

incredibly observant, finds comfort and joy in watching others. it can be studying human behaviour and social cues, or watching others squirm under his watchful eye, relishing in their discomfort

i believe he was selectively mute for a period of his life and pandora spoke for him (twin telepathy is real with these two)

with the skittles, he was treated as a person of interest for the first time in his life, with particularly dorcas and barty prodding to find out who he is and what he thinks

this is how he grew comfortable with them; he tested the waters and when they liked him even more for all his weird, he let go with them

humour wise, i believe him to be the type that snickers and barks laughters when he is with his select circle

crude, direct, unapologetic, clinical, curiosity-driven, loyal, animalistic

he is not the type to snap, but rather to sit back with his emotions and let them simmer until he channels them into something dark

however, if one of His People TM snaps, he is loyal to a dangerous degree and will be right there with them, going for blood

(which is how he and barty always ends up in fist fights)

barty gave him his first piercings in third year (perhaps to offset the whole "doll" thing at the time) and ever since, evan has been getting more and more

if his body is an angelic vessel, he wants to decorate it as he fucking pleases

oh and i think he curses like a sailor. again with the contrasts between looks and personality

anything unorthodox or "unacceptable" catches his attention -> his mind almost gets hung up on certain concepts or thoughts like a scratched plate

it can vary vastly from things considered "immoral" to things people just look down upon -> e.g. taxidermy vs skating

fascination with creatures (human or animal or fantastical), their bodies (blood, bone, veins, etc.) and behaviour (social interactions, hierarchies, relationships, etc.)

the point is that evan himself has lived as an oddity his whole life, so he pursues oddities in all forms. a sense of belonging and understanding.

preferably does it all with pandora

in a muggle au, evan would either be a tattoo artist specialising in occultist imagery or a biologist within a super niche field of a species he became obsessed with -> same same but different

regulus

i apply the generally accepted headcanon that the black family has french roots and thus french was his mother tongue; he slips into it when deeply emotive (in either end of the spectrum) and he borrows his favourite words that he feels does not have a sufficient equivalent in english

for instance, he calls his love amour instead of just "love" because he feels like the word holds more meaning in his native language

personally, i don't necessarily view regulus as a polyglot -> i think he could learn spanish and italian if he felt like it, but he would rather pursue poetry and music

(though i do believe he has taught himself latin to be That Bitch)

i recently touched upon this, but i believe that regulus is the most exquisite violinist

all sacred 28 children are raised almost as royals with all the "traditional" upper class teachings of learning classical instruments, reciting sonnets, horseback riding (though perhaps a magical creature instead? thestrals?)

both regulus and sirius were taught the piano to begin with, but regulus excelled much quicker than sirius, and mastered the piano incredibly early on

(the boys were heavily pitted against each other and made to compete, and due to their age difference, this was one of the few areas regulus outdid him. i believe regulus always did better than sirius had at his age, he felt as if he was behind because sirius was better than him in the moment. so he absolutely cherished it, and thus made musical instruments a large part of his personality for the first half of his childhood.)

to continue im(proving) himself, regulus decided to try out the violin, and i believe this is the instrument he truly fell for

the violin is a more physically engaging instrument than piano (at least for regulus, pianists don't kill me) -> he has to move his whole body to make the sounds he chases after, he can hold his fingers down on the sharp strings until they bleed, he can clutch the violin in between his chin and shoulder until it bruises

it becomes a much-needed physical outlet for him as well as an artistic one

if we want to get very sad, i picture sirius unable to listen to any music with violins in them in the parts of his life he spends without regulus (for whatever reason)

generally, i view regulus as someone who appreciates the arts as an escape

i believe he also reads and writes poetry -> originally he mostly consumed and replicated the sonnets he had forced down his throat (shakespeare was probably a wizard, right?) but as he grew older and continued, he developed his own style

i think he primarily discusses different manifestations of pain and generational trauma in his works; these are the pieces he is proud of and considers publishing under a pseudonym

but when regulus falls in love, he falls hard and i think it would be impossible for him not to write sappy love poems; these are the pieces he stows away and vows to never share with the world, until he is old and married and healed and finds them once more and walks into the living room to show his partner as they laugh and cry together

i think his most emotive pieces are written in french, his most secretive ones are written in latin and the ones about healing and developing are written in english

i don't feel like i need to dive deep into it, but i obviously believe regulus is a cat animagus

(i think he either did it young simply because he could, or he found out that sirius was an animagus and refused to be upstaged once more, so he did it over the summer after he discovered it)

i also want to touch upon the fact that i often (though not always, and rarely explicitly) view regulus as transmasc

i might delve more into it one day, but for now i'll just say i think he would use he/they pronouns if given the opportunity

dorcas

without a doubt, i view dorcas as the strongest of the group, maybe even the strongest of all marauders era characters.

this is referring primarily to her magic but also her will power.

her spells have an explosive force to the point where she prefers not to cast healing spells or casual spells, because her magic is too "rough" for it to be suitable. she's a strategist in that sense, often delegating such spells to others. she works on more permanent/solid spells, e.g. putting up wards, hexing objects, any and all battle spells, potions.

she is a proper scholar and a good student who gets top marks, but that is not where her talent or aspirations stem from. she knows her power and she wants to use it effectively and pragmatically.

that goes for her willpower as well. say it with me: dorcas "debate team champion" meadowes. she is blunt and direct and unapologetic about it. she believes there is such a thing as a "correct" opinion and she will tell you as much in a so devastating manner you cannot formulate a response.

(canon-compliant: this is why she was killed by voldemort himself. she went straight from the mckinnons' home to where she knew she would find as many death eaters as possible, and then she just unleashed everything she had. knowing it would kill her, a form of suicide mission. she could not live without marlene, could not take the grief, but she wanted her death to be worthwhile; thus, she let go and single-handedly caused the largest amount of casualties for the death eaters had had in one battle. it was voldemort himself because no one else could.)

most of this stems from a pathological need to prove herself.

unlike the other four skittles who all grew up in abusive homes (although in varying forms), i believe dorcas grew up in the foster care system. which in the uk 70s was not a pleasant experience.

i don't think she experienced many caretakers who were angry/violent, but i don't think they were involved or engaged with her at all. they were just there, she was just there, and that was that.

from her fellow children in the system, she learned both what love and hatred was. the first girl she kissed was a roommate at one of the houses she spent some weeks at. but in the orphanage she spent most time at, she was caught in a severely psychologically harmful environment among the children. there was bullying, there were fights, there was instability.

dorcas was a blurred face in a massive crowd, moving at full speed. she needed to stand out, she yearned to be someone.

so; she began proving herself and she never stopped. academically, socially, capability-wise. which is how she harnessed such massive power. she had to establish a strong sense of self and make it seem to others like she stood with her head held high at all times, even when she was feeling fragile or scared.

i don't think she had a temper like barty's though, nor was she so wrung-tight like regulus. she was not one to snap or shake. she fake-it-till-you-make-it-ed her self assuredness and honestly believes it herself until she is alone.

when she crumbles it is through exhaustion and maybe a few tears that lead to silent sobs. if you don't know to look for it, you would never be able to notice it when she's in bed.

"i'll keep everything bottled up right here thank you" and does so successfully until she is held gently and then she melts

from northern england in my mind. favourite curse word is "bloody" and she overuses it.

because she is confrontational and not afraid to ask the tough question, she is the ideal person to come to when you need to get some real advice. in that sense, she serves the same purpose in the skittles as lily does with the gryffindors. i think the two would bond a lot.

dorcas is really proud of her name. i think she feels a real connection with it and identifies with it – it's beautiful. despite this, she likes the nickname "cas" because it signals a closeness she has yearned for her whole life. as i already have written about a lot, she can and will kill you if you call her "dorc" (the skittles still do ("but it's with a c!").

i would not go as far as to call her a pyromaniac, but she has a fascination for flames. i think she identifies with them a lot, too. she would have many candles lit around her at all time, and plays with the wick and the wax when she's bored.

she likes to read kind of niche, disturbing literature. she likes tropes like "cannibalism as a metaphor for love", "transforming into a bug", "a relationship between a voodoo doll and its maker"

i always believed dorcas' features and voice to be rather soft. i think her voice especially was naturally quite airy and light, which she tried to fight against for years to make it louder and match the power she knows she harnesses and wants to exude. as she heals, she knows she does not need to. she can still command a room with her soft voice and can still lead an army with a soft face.

i feel like maybe one of the most disputed aspects of dorcas is her style? and i'll tell you right now, in my mind dorcas has a light academia meets princess mermaid style. and it is significant. she dresses like she is the president of the debate team and would be the best person to bring on a beach date at the same time. with potentially some witchy/whimsygoth undertones.

in a muggle au i picture dorcas as either being in the un or a professional volleyball player. i don't think i will elaborate.

pandora

nicknames "dora"

everything said for evan regarding looks of course also applies for pandora as his twin -> ethereal, angelic, "doll-like" looks, heavy contrasts in colours and features (including heterochromia and blonde dreads)

i occasionally view pandora as transfem (making her and evan identical twins) and i think their features are quite androgynous, though femme-leaning

when i view her as trans, i think it was evan who picked her name out with a reference to pandora's box

in general, "pandora's box" is a running joke within the friend group. there are no ends to how the term is used; it can refer to her mind, her room, her partner, her bag, etc.

she has had the same wide cloth shoulder bag throughout all her time at hogwarts, that she always patches up by hand using natural elements, and she has hexed it so many times (to have more storage, to not let anyone with ill intentions in, etc.) that it radiates this magical energy you can feel when your hand hovers above it.

pandora's oddities are just as severe as evan's, but partly because she's a girl they're more often brushed off as "whimsical" -> i argue this is a mistake on their part

she is not the flora to evans' fauna; they are both fauna, they are both primal and wild

the reason evan is more violent than pandora is largely because he does it out of loyalty to barty and because he has been shunned in a more aggressive manner due to gender roles. pandora instead can be mentally and magically violent, creating new jinxes that crush someone's psyche in ways previously unheard of, should need be.

she is also primal in the sense that she is a very tactile person -> she touches to understand and learn. she can randomly grab someone's chin mid-conversation or rub at their eyebrows. her friends are not fussed over this whatsoever anymore, carrying on their sentence without any disruption. others, not quite as much.

pandora collects bones and uses them with everything from her magic to jewelry or decor. she has a habit of giving the prettiest bone of whatever creature she is pilfering from to whoever she is happiest with at the moment, kind of like a crow.

she has a deep respect for all fauna and their way of life; she often finds it to be more logical than humans'

pandora thinks on a plane above most other people.

i believe her to be a seer, though not always in the traditional sense. she doesn't necessarily know everything that is going to happen (some of it, sure), but she sees thoughts and feelings that are about to form in the air around her. she sees auras and sounds too.

in fifth year, her and barty make a business out of her giving relationship advice based on the fact that she is a seer. unfortunately, she actually said it as it was, leading to some unhappy customers, leading to barty beating them up. not good for business (but hilarious stories at parties)

she enjoys crystals, tarots, sage and other things we usually associate with spirituality. she enjoys them both for the concept of occultism or otherness, and as actual tools for her more unorthodox approaches to magic. many of her friends don't quite believe it, but it always works when she uses it all on them, so they don't say anything. i think dorcas quite enjoys learning tarot from pandora, while barty makes up fake stories for the cards.

her seer-abilities leads to a lot of miscommunication and is in large part why she talks the way she does. on her own plane, she often misses certain social cues or sarcasms, while others aren't privy to what she bases her worldview on, because they cannot see it.

i have always thought her voice and way of speaking to be very similar to luna's (that's where she got it from). it's airy and light, like she is addressing more than just the people present in the room.

in my fics, i usually make her quidditch commentator for that reason -> people find it entertaining (some in good nature, some in taunting) and her insights in players' mindsets and actions is beneficial

incredibly kind and patient with her friends

i think she has a fascination with mirrors -> both the concept of reflecting back, the idea of distorted mirrors, using mirrors in her magic, etc. her house is full of them.

i often view her as on the aroace spectrum ("i have greater concerns"), but if she is not i think she either:

a) views relationships and situationships in an almost clinical sense; experimenting with quite a bit of detachment, maybe even taking notes of it, yet somehow in an innocent-ish way

b) mates for life. finds one person and goes oh yes this one'll do and stays with them forever. (which i suppose is what she did with lovegood?)

in muggle aus, i think she would work at a funeral home and be that soft, celestial presence that sticks with a grieving 8 year old for the rest of their lives like a loving ghost reminding you that death is natural and grief is loved persevering

on that note, given the option i fully believe she would have become a ghost. the only reason she isn't in canon is because she missed evan and regulus.

the whole gang

everyone has made out with each other at some point -> have you heard of the term queer platonic? yeah that's them

overprotective in every form of the word. supporting each other in their maniacalisms. a cohesive group to the core.

pandora and regulus are best friends who can talk about the real shit and understand each other on an almost cosmic level

regulus and barty are best friends who are back to back in any situation, ready to be with each other through the worst -> the type who have been close for almost too long and bicker like an old married couple because of it

barty and dorcas are best friends who "will do it if you do it" and end up in the most nidicolous situations together just for the laughs

if barty goes through a breakup, it's dorcas he calls. if regulus goes through a breakup, it's pandora he calls. if evan goes through a breakup, the group splits in half where regulus and pandora stay with him while dorcas and barty goes to kill the breakup-er

regulus is the mum friend of the group, the kind of exasperated mum who sprays her kids with a spray bottle and put them on leashes. when regulus is out of commission, big sister dorcas picks up the mantle in the most chaotic manner you have ever seen (swap the spray bottles for bug smackers and the tired sighs with screeching). pandora is constantly the aloof auntie. evan and barty are babies with no regard for safety (their own or others').

their interests loop together into funny weird little systems

for example: barty finds the dead animal (maybe kills it if we're being honest), evan experiments on its carcass and dissects it, pandora retrieves its bones afterwards and makes jewelry with it

another example: pandora likes creating paint from natural elements, evan likes using it for his skateboard, dorcas likes using it for her paintings and clothes, and barty likes huffing it

on graduation day, pandora handed them all little dolls of each of them that she made herself -> in reference to the "rosier dolls", showing that they were all dolls because they were all family. they looked like a combination of voodoo dolls and babushka dolls, painted, sown and bedazzled with button eyes. they treasured them.

when i write fics where the skittles never got involved with the death eaters at all (which is most of the time), i usually hc dorcas as half-blood and the discrimination she faced is a large part of the reason why they were turned away.

they will vocal stim at the same time together, particularly barty and pandora. it drives regulus mad, while dorcas and evan don't even notice it.

when barty got in fights, evan backed him up and eventually threw him over his shoulder when it was time to stop. if they were fighting someone who deserved it, regulus and dorcas would stand on either side and throw healing spells on the perpetrator/victim, so that the punishment could be prolonged without actually killing someone.

pandora is the only one with veto rights in the group. whether it is to stop an argument, decide who is right, decide what to do or any such thing, it is only her word that is final. it's not always it comes to that, but when pandora's soft voice says "stop" or "yes", that is the end all be all.

What’s your favorite adaptation of J&H?

Great question! I don't know that I have a singular favourite, so I'll just ramble about a few notable ones.

Minor spoilers but just notes about aspects I liked and nothing big, as long as you're familiar with the general concept

I am of course quite fond of the original novel (1886). It started it all and was well written and a good read. And of course, the undisputed best line of "If he be Mr. Hyde, I shall be Mr. Seek." Pop off Utterson.

I feel like I have to give a shout out to the 1912 short film because it's impressive to me that there's a film adaptation that old, as that's toward the start of films in general. It's 12 minutes, it's online free, it feels like a lab safety sketch, good little watch.

I really enjoyed the 1968 movie and thought it was a good portrayal. I liked that we got to see a nice and charismatic side of Hyde before he became really abusive (I'm a fan of more nuanced presentations over ones that treat it like a purely good vs evil monster movie). I liked that it kept some aspects of mystery and that it was fairly true to the book.

Dr. Jekyll and Sister Hyde (1971). Hyde is a woman and a girlboss, what more do I need to say. I support her wrongs.

I adore the songs from the musical. Unfortunately some of my favourites from the album seem to not be in the actual play, but I am a theatre kid and love me a good musical.

Mary Reilly (1996) was the first film adaptation I saw so I'm partial to it. Good sense of mystery about the situation since it's from the perspective of one of his maids.

I'm also a fan of the 2015 series. Definitely very different to the book and follows his grandson so it's different characters/story, but I found it to be a very enjoyable series. I'm very upset that it's only one season, particularly given how the first season ends. I hc Hils as trans and you can't change my mind.

I'm fond of a lot of different aspects of different depictions so it's hard to pick a singular favourite. There are more that I've seen that I enjoyed that I may do specific review posts of later, as well as more detailed thoughts on these, but that's an overview of some of my highlights, and some recommendations if you aren't familiar with these

1984 by George Orwell - I'm long overdue a re-read of this and it's a very angsty-teenage pick for my favourite book of all time... but very few dystopias have even come close to the pure gut-punch that the ending to 1984 leaves you with. And it's inspired multiple Muse albums so I'm contractually obliged to love it 😅

The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins - Wanted to pick a series I loved as a child and this *just* beats A Series of Unfortunate Events in terms of its quality holding up on an adult re-read. I don't love every book in the series but Katniss (and Haymitch) are fantastic, wonderfully flawed protagonists and the political themes are handled far better than most YA novels.

The Song of Achilles by Madelline Miller - I'm definitely partial to queer novels that can make me cry so as cliché as this pick may seem, it would feel dishonest to exclude it. Especially as I re-read it recently expecting the impact to be lost and it still had me crying during the final few pages 🙃

The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien - Just an absolute classic in the fantasy genre. A couple of the 'Song of Ice and Fire' novels could also be candidates for this slot, and I've recently finished and loved the Lord of the Rings series but I feel I need a little more time to digest those books fully, whereas The Hobbit has been close to my heart for over a decade.

War Doctor by David Nott - Utterly heartbreaking piece of non-fiction by a British surgeon who has travelled to multiple warzones from Sarajevo to Gaza to Aleppo and documented his work with incredible healthcare workers from all over the world. There's so much horror and despair in every page but so much hope as well. I first read it only a month before the war in Ukraine intensified in 2022 and re-read it recently thinking of all the medical staff in Gaza who are fighting to save people every single day with limited resources. Obviously a topic close to my heart and not a read I could recommend to everyone, so 'This is Going to Hurt' by Adam Kay deserves an honourable mention as a slightly more light-hearted take on my chosen profession 😉💖

'The Flame and the Moth' by @uhbasicallyjustmilex - I could be here all day waxing lyrical about your incredible Four Walls and Here Comes the Sun and I suspect your gorgeous TAOTU fic will become a new favourite soon, but this one is such a beautifully written and characterised gem of a fic and the ending still takes my breath away every time I revisit it. Definitely one that appeals to the angst-lover in me 😉

'Young Volcanoes' series by @gasdancer - An absolute classic in terms of fics set during the TAOTU era and one of the stories that made me fall in love with this fandom way back in the day. I shamefully still need to finish the final fic in the series but I can't wait to revisit it on a rainy day 💖

'you've got control of everyone's eyes (including mine)' by @alexturne - I could be here all day recommending fics by alexturne as she's the queen of endearing, fluffy Milex, but I have such fond memories of following this AU chapter by chapter and watching the boys develop their relationship from animosity to the deep love we all recognise 🥰

'Satin and Lace' series by @yellowloid - Another author where I could essentially list off every fic they've ever written as a fave, but this series is particularly special; so gorgeously written and romantic and features one of my favourite proposal scenes ever.

My brain was not braining at the moment I was answering Pokémon ask, but I'm curious about your preferences too. Sadly, I don't know much about new generations and can only ask about Kanto. So what Pokémon of Kanto did you like to use in battles the most (doesn't have to be the favorite)?

Unfortunately I haven't played Pokemon games with Kanto, only Hisui, but I googled pokemons from Kanto and chose some. :3 I know you want to know pokemons I used in battle, but yeah, unfortunately I can't fully answer this question, so I have to answer differently. But somewhere in the end I showed my Pokemon team from Pokémon Arceus. <3 Those pokemons are from Hisui and I think some of them are also in Kanto. <3

But to partially answer your question, what I think I would choose for my team, then I'd probably choose bulbasaur, gyarados, snorlax, pikachu and squirtle. <3 I don't know how many pokemons you can have on your main team, so I picked 5. <3

Bulbasaur was in general my fav pokemon when I was a kid. I remember having a small figurine of bulbasaur on my shelf. :3 And its ivysaur evolution is really pretty!

Squirtle will always remind me of those three squirtles from the beginning of the Pokemon anime. I loved their style with sunglasses! <3

Charizard seems really cool. I don't remember why exactly I liked charizard, but I'm putting it here mainly for nostalgia reasons. >:3

Psyduck is one of those pokemons I got to know through memes. I don't know if I saw him in anime first, all I remember is seeing him in memes. And psyducks often attack me whenever I do something in Pokemon Arceus. >:( But they look cool!

I don't really know horseas and seels but I find their design really adorable. <33

Gastly looks so creepy and cool! I remember seeing air humidifiers with gastly and it looked really cool. :3 And it's really scary to walk around in my Pokemon game and suddenly see gastly appear... 😔

I love Cubone's design, especially the fact that it got a skull mask! I think cubone appears in the beginning of the anime? At least somewhere in the beginning of season one? But I am not really sure. I just remember the design.

I don't have much to say about Mewtwo. I just love its kitty design! Lemme pet it. :3

Polandball Voltorb looks really interesting. There's no special reason for me to like it. I just like it. It doesn't remind me about anything from the meme culture, nothing at all.

Poland Electrode got a very funny smirk. Like, why it looks like this, it's so funny. Also, I fought it in Pokemon Arceus and had to calm it down, so I got some memories from fighting it.

Magikarp became my favourite due to me feeling guilty for rejecting it. What I mean is that around 12 years ago I was playing Minecraft with my friends and we had Pokemon modification uploaded on our server. And literally none of us wanted to catch magikarps except one person. And when this person's magikarp finally evolved, everyone finally noticed that it's actually a pretty cool pokemon. And now I got plenty of magikarps in my inventory in Pokemon Arceus. And its evolution, Gyarados, got a name Gyatt. I won't elaborate, I will leave this fact to your consciousness that one pokemon in my inventory got that kind of name.

Snorlax is soooo cute! I always loved its big body. 🥺💖 Even as a child I loved snorlax a lot. One time someone tried to fatshame me by calling me a snorlax, but I will take it as a compliment because this is such a lovely pokemon. 😌💖

Decidueye is my starter pokemon. Well, technically it was rowlet, but it's the same exact pokemon! It was a pleasure to evolve him. I love him so much and he always stayed on my team. :3 And I called him Alice. :3

Luxray is also my fav pokemon. I named him Naruto, even though it would be more logical to call pikachu like this. But I don't care. He's Naruto. He started from being shinx (I called one shinx Shin) and now he's luxray. :3 I put him on my team because I wanted to have an electric type and didn't want to go with pikachu. But I don't regret it. <3

I wanted to only evolve Floatzel slightly and then come back to my precious Bibarel, but forgot about it and now it's floatzel on my team lol. I won't mention her name because her name is controversial now in Poland. But it's after one Polish influencer that did some bad things. So I need to change her name soon.

Infernape name is literally Molotov. Like, after cocktail Molotov. I think it's self-explanatory. And I know it sounds funny after I refused to mention floatzel's name, but yeah. My infernape's name is after a weapon. Though I didn't think he would stay on my team for such a long time. I think he got there only because I looked for pokemons that would go along with decidueye and someone said he's one of good choices for the team? But I don't remember anymore.

My Ursaring's name is Gorgonzola. There's no deep thought behind this name. I just think Gorgonzola is such a great name for him.

My Crobat's name is Draculaura and I think this name is perfect for her! I think she also became a part of my team on the first part of my game? I am not sure but she's for such a long time with me already! :3

Raichu got a name after Naruto's dad - Minato. I know I should have named pikachu Naruto, instead of luxray, but at least raichu got Minato! >:3

Ponyta is named Gracjan for absolutely no reason. It's Gracjan and it always has been Gracjan.

Mime Jr. is named "My Friend" because I wanted to include Goldy in my game. <33

It may seem like I only write KnB these days but I don't consider myself to be done with my SPOP comics yet.

Tagging all my writer friends but I'm going to mention @active-mind-15 because you're kind of new to me. But I really want to hear about all my writer mutuals and followers. By the way if you've written one unfinished fic or tried to start to write your ideas but can't, or haven't written for years, or have any other struggle that makes you feel invalid, you count as a writer.

Going to elaborate under the cut because I felt like it.

My old account was FinFanFun, a Finnish site I used mostly for reading Facebook wall fics about that which should not be named.

AO3 is where I publish my KnB fics though I've considered branching out to see if there's still some fandom corners I haven't reached.

I'm slowly introducing myself to writing smut but the only story I've published has been called mild and soft smut or smut-ish, and I doubt the rest will be much different.

I frequently beta-read for friends, though fanfiction is the minority.

I used to have two beta-readers but they're unable to do it anymore so all my fics rely solely on me for now, which makes me really anxious sometimes. I am pretty desperate for a new beta-reader so if KagaKuro and a million words of "homework" doesn't frighten you, please jump into an adventure with me!

All my fics are self-indulgent in that they're what I want to see play out in the story. They are not personal fantasies, or necessarily what I want to see in real life, but it's what I envision for these characters.

I'm always reading old favourite fics again and I need to branch out actually.

If I'm in need of a short fic to read I will probably pick fluff.

Have written m/m and f/f (and m/? and m/f) but honestly it's weird to put them in the same category when m/m is so overrepresented.

I'm not actually sure if I consider fanfiction as a genre or rather a medium, because all genres exist inside fanfiction. Medium is probably more true but I seem to have checked it anyway because I feel like the point here is whether fanfiction is valid literature and that it is.

I don't know if two fandoms with one being dormant would be considered multifandom so maybe no.

I do anxiously wait for feedback since I'm very community oriented but I'm also very introverted and internally motivated so the lack of it doesn't discourage me. I have patience and I can wait for connection for years and years. Not that lack of connection doesn't affect me, of course it does, but giving up is just a very antithetical concept to my beliefs and life.

I have one on-going long KnB story and one unfinished She-Ra fic that is waiting for a better time. Which is an exception since I tend to finish what I start before moving on.

Editing fanfiction is actually not as bad as editing original fiction because I put much less pressure on myself, partially because you can always edit your fic again.

Always listening to hours long conversations in my head between characters when I'm trying to sleep. They're really bad at shutting up and I'm supposed to remember this stuff in the morning?

I was mildly drunk for ten days straight to write Anything Can Happen. Haven't done that since but it was really fun.

My main KnB storyline gets most of my attention. It's just my thing, I pour everything into it.

I didn't check 'wants to be a professional writer' because after three traditionally published books I consider myself to be that already. I actually went the other way around than seems to be the norm: I was an original fiction writer first and then branched out to fanfiction in my twenties. I can see it greatly affects how I write fic, and it's probably the main reason I feel like a bit of an outsider.

I (unfortunately) don't have an ao3 account, but I wanted to come here to praise your identity v fics, if you don't mind of course. (and while I'm 95% sure I have the right person I apologise if I don't lol)

I've read both of them (re-read and wrong the laws you thought immutable recently, and realised there was another in the series I had missed, so I've just finished reading both back to back) and I have to say they're absolutely wonderful.

I've always been a fan of injury and recovery fics, and both of your works absolutely fit the bill!! (I especially like how the first is a very detailed scene that's slow with Andrew's perspective, and how the second is a collection of snapshots with Luca's, rather fitting for someone with memory issues. It's really fun having variety in that.)

You characterize everyone so well!! I truly enjoy the little sparks of life you put into them (like Antonio speaking Italian occasionally, or the sort of... distant-ness (forgive my lack of a better term) of Edgar suitable for a god-like figure) that makes them feel so much more charming than I often see in fics these days.

Nought may endure but mutability is my favourite out of the two, so I wanted to pick out some highlights that I particularly appreciate.

I enjoy the sudden reveal of Luca's memory loss (even if it's standard by now it's incredibly well done, and to be honest I didn't expect it), and how it's initially taken as him being self-praising before the realisation that something is horribly wrong.

I especially like the moment where Luca asks about his father, only remembering the bad while Andrew was only ever told the good, doing his best to recount what Luca had said and Luca knows it's so horribly inaccurate yet he can't say it

Luca's breakdown is heartwrenching (I love how it was partially foreshadowed before by Edgar), and I adore Luca using the laws of physics as an analogy because it really feels like something he would do! (I am also in love with the small exchange of "I'm here" "You are. Am I?")

And finally, not really a highlight but I generally just enjoy how everyone clearly cares so much for Luca in their own different ways.

How old were you when you read/watched LOTR for the first time? 15 or so. I believe it was early high school. The books were my gateway drug, and I was hooked from the very first chapter!

Favourite lotr character?: Frodo! In high school, I loved him for his androgynous beauty (thanks, Elijah), and as an adult I truly came to comprehend the depths of his pain and sacrifice. Hence, he is a hero for all seasons of life.

Books or films?: Both! They are both incredible works of art on their own right, and the movies are the ultimate homage to Tolkien's work.

Favourite movie: The Fellowship. It has the most Frodo in it.

Which location in Middle Earth do you want to visit most?: I can't pick just one! The Shire, I suppose, for when I want to touch grass, Rivendell for a spiritual retreat, Minas Tirith for the excitement and the cosmopolitan vibe, and Erebor and the Mines of Moria (before.... everything) would be fascinating to explore to see the marriage of nature's creations to the ingenuity of dwarrow craft.

Favourite scene: Again, I can't pick just one! I am particularly partial to the first hour or so of The Fellowship, and all the events in the Shire with Gandalf and the hobbits leading up to the quest.

Which middle earth race would you like to be?: as much as the hobbits have my heart, when it comes to lifestyle, talents, interests, and general demeanor, I would probably be an Elf. My self-insert OC is a silvan elf who traveled to Rivendell to leave behind trauma and become a healer, and then came with Arwen's entourage to Minas Tirith, met an ADHD-afflicted citadel guard, and stayed. Which makes all the canonical sense, of course.

Favourite lotr ship: Frodo/Sam (platonic, romantic, all of it!) But now I've also started writing about the rarepair Frodo/Marigold Gamgee, and I'm really enjoying that as well.

Giggles this is a delightful ask (full of delightful colors!! That really is fun)

1. Fav song at the moment idk if this counts but the wellness session music from Severence is crazy good and I've been listening to it on repeat. The other one at the moment is Movies by Weyes Blood (that I am actually about to make a music Monday post for!)

2. I haven't seen the Walten Files but I have seen a bit of the Mandela Catalogue which what I saw was very good and also very scary lol the eyes thing freaks me out a bit, gives me kind of a palinopsia where I can't get it out of my head so I haven't seen much of it

3. Both good for their own reasons, both I especially enjoy the "sire" aspect and I do really appreciate the predatory nature of both, among other things. Though I always pick werewolves at the end bc 1 nothing can beat the knot and 2 Big Doggies!! They are big silly doggey guys who can eviscerate you to shreds and I looovvee that. Get you a woofer who can hunt you down and is also a big cuddly doofus

4. For TMA this is a toughie bc Eye is really appealing I mean heck I get real curious by stuff to my own detriment (see: my curiosity for what TMA was about and ending up terribly disappointed when I finished it) and just the inherent Eye nature of the audience. Meanwhile Slaughter really speaks to me, along with Flesh (see: my meat posting tag) and also Spiral. I was scared for the longest time of being crazy but I'm now a lot more at peace with my crazy lol (however when it comes to trusting myself or even knowing myself... haha .. lol even) but okay back to Slaughter and Flesh. Slaughter bc I get that fun "very often triggered by very normal and mundane things" disease so I find myself wanting to go ape shit all the time. A little "can I kill your dad and also that loud noise" in these trying times. And Flesh? Partially bc I can be a bit of a masochist and I also just heavily subscribe to the idea of how our Meat Suits are what makes us "present." Like for a while I struggled with my identity and who am I when I'm present and what does that even mean to begin with. In the end I think it's what's going on with your meat and in your meat space, and I find a lot of grounding and meaning in that. (Heh, ground meat) You are who's experiencing the Meat

Also! random story: I rearranged my room today, and it went pretty well all things considered, but according partially to Murphy's Law and just common principle, at least one thing must go wrong with a major event! and today it was in the form of incense XD

So right as I began to start moving things around (not many things, I was just tucking my desk in the corner and moving a shelf to vibe with its companion across the room) I realised I wanted to smoke some incense! not sure if I've told you that I really enjoy the smell of incense, but I do XD!

So I lit the charcoal, set the little thurible (kind of) on the small shelf I set up for it, and, after a couple minutes, put the incense resin onto the charcoal! I chose one of my favourites 'cause I definitely pick favourites when it comes to incense XD

But like maybe 15 minutes after putting the incense on, I noticed, while I was continuing to clean my room, that it was a lot smokier than usual, despite my window being as wide open as it's ever been in the past

Long story short, my guess is that the outside air being about equal in temperature to the air in my room made it a lot harder for air to naturally flow in and out as it had during the colder months, and that led to the smoke of the incense building up in the room, which then. set off. my. smoke alarm XD fortunately the classic 'violently thwapping at the smoke detector with a shirt' method worked well in quieting it, but goodness was that a fright when it just randomly went off XD those things are loudd

good part about that though, kind of, is that it finally got me to like. actually do some research for once

apparently I'm not actually that weird and feeling like multiple vaguely distinct but also kind of the same people stuffed into a suit that doesn't fit and having gaps in your memory are actually pretty common experiences

my favourite female character: lady argent my beloved..... i got super invested in her when i did her romance and now i am just so interested in her, i want to know her backstory and her connection to sharks and see how her mission with the regenerator ends up my favourite male character: herald my little sunshine boy 🥺 he's so wholesome and just so good i love that scene where sidestep tries to nudge him into dropping them when he's carrying them to the roof and they can't because they realise there's just no part of herald that wants to harm them three other favourite characters: ortega (his dynamic with sidestep is so painful but so deep and so engaging), mortum (hello trans black romance option in popular game), steel (i was fairly neutral on him at first but the more that's revealed about how he actually feels towards sidestep and the more we dig past the surface-level parts of him the more interested i get) my least favourite character: hm. i'm not really sold on hollow ground yet i guess, i don't dislike them and i think their physical similarity to sidestep is interesting, but i see a lot of people in the fanbase loving them and being super eyes emoji at what their whole deal is (even people wishing they could romance them) and i just simply do not care about them that much my otp: dude this is so hard to pick for this game. i love sidestep/ortega because of their history (and all the ways that history can go) and how complex their relationship is, i love sidestep/herald because herald is exactly what they need in their life with how genuinely selfless and pure and loving he is, i love sidestep/argent (especially with an orangestep/a sidestep that is more of an outright villain bc of the implication that you can persuade her to your side) bc of the enemies-to-lovers flirting-while-fighting vibe... i'm also pretty partial to the poly routes of sidestep/ortega/steel and sidestep/ortega/herald my notp: steel/f!sidestep. mrrffm. let him be gay. the character i’m most like: i got that sidestep trauma and self-deprecation and inner conflict but i think externally i'm most like herald? puts a lot of value on compassion & kindness, wants to be useful, not the physically strongest or most experienced but Very Speedy, not always the most observant, gets called naive favourite game: retribution babeyyyy, i was a lil let down the first time i played it just because i'd played the demo so many times and it felt like the full game was basically just the demo and then like... 10 extra minutes at the end, but ignoring that and just seeing it in a vaccuum i love retribution so so much more than rebirth most attractive character: herald & mortum even though mortum is on thin ice for wearing so much orange. my least favourite colour ...

Aw yes more little!Mick!!! I love him so so much (I am very much in a Mick mood, a Mick and Charles mood... poly!mick/Charles verse? anyone?).

So firstly, I think little!Mick has LOADS of friends!! He loves playing with people and is so outgoing and fun. So of course there any many different people he loves. I mean, he basically loves everyone.

His bestest best friend is Esteban!! Esteban doesn't regress, but he's always ready to play with Mick and watch cartoons! If he sees Esteban while regressed, he'll immediately run straight over cause he knows at the very least he'll get a hug. He calls him este and he's always asking if este can come play.

Of course he also adores seb! I think maybe seb took on a partial caregiver role before you came along? Unfortunately seb never had the time to be his full-time caregiver, and he's so thankful that you came along because he knew Mick deserved someone who could be there for him whenever he needed them.

He also loves Lewis!

I think seb would tell Lewis that Mick is an age regressor when he was caring for Mick and needed to leave. Little!Mick can care for himself if need be, but if he regresses with a caregiver around then he tends to regress much younger so it's so much harder for him to suddenly have to care for himself when seb has to leave.

So seb called Lewis and Lewis was more than happy to come over and take over. He LOVES little!Mick so much, especially because he just loves having fun? He genuinely needs the stress relief of playing with Mick as much as Mick needs the stress relief of regressing.

As for other littles, I think Mick's favourite friend is George? Which is a bit strange because George regresses very young and actually can't play very well like the others? Sometimes he doesn't even show any interest in toys, but other times he'll pick them up and kinda just hold them.

But Mick treats him almost like a little brother? If he's playing with his cars, he'll tell George EVERYTHING! Providing George with a constant commentary about what's happening and George LOVES it, honestly he likes watching Mick play more than he likes cartoons.

I also think Mick likes little!Charles? I think Mick actually helps Charles come out of his shell quite a bit? Charles is a very shy and nervous little boy, thinking that everything is too loud and scary and not wanting to annoy anyone.

But Mick manages to coax him into playing and have some fun, and it's really sweet to see.

I also agree on little!Lando being a bit too overwhelming.

Honestly it think that little!Lando struggles with emotional regulation a lot? He tends to get angry or upset very easily, and regularly needs to be spanked or put in time out to calm down again.

He's kinda just a cranky toddler when he regresses.

Honestly Lando doesn't tend to get along very well with other littles, because he thinks they're too loud or chaotic or just... just not nice.

So yeah, Mick doesn't like little!Lando too much, because you never know when Lando might start screaming or crying or throwing his toys and it scares Mick a bit too much.
