This is a Fortnite Chapter 5 rant. Please ignore
But they’ve ruined this fucking game. When they brought og back for a bit I thought it meant epics developers were listening to its playerbase finally. I had fun. Enough fun that I put money into the game for the next battle pass, thinking the next season would continue to bring in changes and new features that the players were asking for. Rather, I’m now trapped playing a game that makes me miserable because I can’t afford to put any amount of money into a game and then just not play it.
They essentially created an entirely new game and using Fortnite’s existing player base to “prove” to themselves the changes are successful. They added actual ai hordes, minibosses, in battle currency, a crafting system, and fishing* (for some reason). They entirely overhauled their guns, movement mechanics, ranking system**, and entire map. Outside of character customization and the battle bus, the basics of Fortnite aren’t there anymore. It’s an insult to the players to continue calling this the same game, especially since some retcons have already been announced.
The playerbase is also in rapid decline, but it’s not immediately noticeable without playing the game yourself. Technically the number of players has not changed, but if you play the game you can notice how many “players” are actually bots trying to emulate actual players. The skill gap between these bots and people is also insane, making it incredibly obvious that the bot count is growing every day despite the claim that the number of people hasn’t gone down a noticeable percentage.
And every day that skill gap grows as casual players continue to leave the game for several reasons…
*As cool as the fishing mechanic is in theory, it’s unusable as other players kill you on sight faster that you can switch from the fishing rod to a gun. Most fishing points are at the bottom of valleys or on a lake at the bottom of essentially a bowl, so you aren’t likely to even notice a player aiming at you until you’re dead and staring at your “queue for next match” screen. You also have to drop a weapon to open a slot for the pole, so unless you’re willing to risk being down a weapon in one of the most vulnerable areas in game, it’s an unusable feature.
**The ranking system is now based on wins and how far you make it in each sessions rankings. Top 10 to top 5 is the ultimate goal, outside of being crowned victor each match. Since the amount of kills you get or damage done to other players now has little effect on how to rank up, people are adopting a much more frustrating and try hard camping approach to each game. Those who can’t compete with camping sweats in ranked are now taking the same playstyle into non ranked lobbies and eliminating anyone who is trying to play casually, ruining the experience almost entirely when combined with every other change they made to preexisting mechanic. So, the casual player base continues to lose numbers as we wait for epic to ultimately go back on their changes or bring the og back again (which they have announced will happen next year, but still no word if they’re gonna make it a permanent game mode or not)
Honestly, I could keep going about how much I despise this new season. It’s awful and almost entirely irredeemable in my eyes. To make matters worse, so many players who haven’t already openly dropped it refuse to acknowledge it’s many flaws outside of the new movement, which isn’t actually any slower it just looks slower because they smoothed out the animations. However, they’ll come up with excuses not to play when offered. It’s just all so frustrating.
#somethingabouttrees rant#I know part of my hate is that so much changed so quickly#and autism makes it so hard to accept these#but I was never upset to anywhere near this degree when they would change#add or take stuff away in og#I just want to have fun#there’s so much more I can complain about too#Fortnite#gaming

Affinity Designer 2—Weaknesses and strengths.
I think the higher end of Affinity Designer is pretty good. It's fairly easy to draw things, but it needs some work on the basics of drawing to smooth out workflow that even Inkscape has.
Strengths:
I like the greyed out text to show what one has not labeled yet.
The ability to join by drag and drop is super cool. However, I still want to be able to join without doing that and being able to press a keyboard shortcut.
gradient and brush support is excellent. The styles panel is actually useful.
The pattern tool is cool, though I wish it did patterns with vector instead.
In no particular order:
deleting an anchor is unbelievably hard. You have to use *both* hands to achieve this task, when it should be with a keyboard assist with one hand, or one click. or better both options available. placing a wrong anchor is a frequent task. The default isn't good. I changed it to delete and cued it up on my tablet.
Reflect is near to impossible. Even the hacks are imperfect.
The anchors on the gradient tool need to be changed so the ends of the anchors are replaceable by other colors without having to go into other panels. (The colors at zero and 100 should be able to be dragged off and replaced)
I wish the Illustrator import was stronger. On one of the things I created, it failed to import the sub folders from Illustrator.
I wish it could import strokes *with* the interior of the image with the stroke width from AI instead of creating a whole separate stroke for each shape. That information should be embedded in the file.
Import from illustrator file often forgets or misses layers, even when importing from an EPS, SVG or PDF file. This is painful because it doesn't remember layers even if that information is encoded from illustrator and Inkscape has that architecture.
Reflect, and merging tools should be separate from the Move tool, so it can be accessed in the Node tool. It's one less click. Make them their own panels. Even the OG tools had that.
Easier color select and style system with the eyedropper.
Intuitive percentage scale Especially for multiple objects in a scene and unlink from the move tool.
Vectors for custom patterns and pattern Vector Brushes. If not that symbols. All three have been on early versions of illustrator.
Basically, Affinity designer is good for bells and whistles, but needs to check out and make sure the basics of making shapes and workflow are better. When the basic functions work and have a steady workflow, that's when you start to add the shiny bits.
I think Affinity designer should work on the core and make sure those are solid before it gets to the shiny bits. If Inkscape is doing it better for free, then it's time to really think about also making sure that Affinity designer can at least match Inkscape in core functionality.
And in case anyone is wondering... Yes, I did do UX, and yes... I've fed suggestions to companies and done whole write ups for bugs. I'm breaking a bit here, 'cause I HATE Gen AI a lot. Like a super ton, but at the same time Affinity designer can't get the basics right which is driving me up the wall. I made all of those layers and folders to do the animation part.
For example, it failed to import all these layers from the PDF, which Inkscape could read and get the colors correctly.
I carefully labeled and named all of the layers. So I don't understand why Affinity designer skipped them just because it felt like it, and the importation of the EPS file was miserable since the colors turned all to black.

Friday Night - Chapter 3 - Part 1

*Warning Adult Content*
The thick faux leather chair had grown too warm for Hunter Dannings.
While he typically thought of it as comfortable, a welcome addition to protect his back as he sat behind a desk all day, it had begun to feel sweaty and stuffy to sit in.
He shifted continuously in his seat, trying to get comfortable but finding it impossible with the persistent heat.
He debated getting up from his chair to sit on one of two pale, gray couches meant to break up his large office but he didn't want to rest.
He wanted to work and that could only be done behind his thick mahogany bureau.
Eventually, he found his layers to be unbearable too, peeling off his suit jacket to free his wide chest and rolling his dress shirt sleeves right above his elbows.
As the hours passed, even his tie became too restrictive.
Hunter hooked a finger into the top, dragging down the knot with a practiced ease and releasing a deep sigh.
The handsome business man should have been used to long work days and hours behind his desk but he was distracted today or to be more accurate, he'd been distracted for the past few weeks.
A vibration in his pants pocket alerted Hunter of the incoming call.
He pulled the device out, ready to upkeep a cool, professional tone when a booming voice came through the other line.
"Oh, Hunter, this new sign of yours is working wonders. We have so many new customers coming in every day."
He immediately regretted ever bringing the phone up to his ear.
Quickly switching it to speaker, Hunter rubbed at his abused ear.
"Hey, Anna," he greeted her, trying but failing miserably, to make himself sound energetic.
"I'm glad the sign is helping."
A couple months ago when Hunter first got the idea to create the new logo for Anna, he did worry that she wouldn't like the design.
Anna was an older woman, a family friend Hunter had known since he was a kid and she enjoyed her traditions.
While spending hours perfecting the logo, sign and animation for Anna to use for her bakery, Hunter worried she would reject the entire thing.
Luckily, she was beyond ecstatic when Hunter revealed the design to her two weeks ago and was already enjoying the free sign Hunter got made to hang above the bakery as well.
"It's doing more than 'help.' We now have so many trendy teens coming in to order. They keep asking for Bob to drink."
"Bob?" Hunter asked, his brows drawing inward in confusion.
"I've never heard of that drink before."
"Bob, babe, B-B-Bobbi, I think?" Anna huffed, growing increasingly frustrated with her own memory.
"Maybe Bob-eye?"
A laugh barricaded its way out of Hunter's chest as he held both hands over his mouth, trying and failing, to hold it back.
"Boba? You're talking about Boba?"
"Oh yes, that. What a strange thing to name a drink."
Anna further distracted Hunter from his work, having ceaseless stories to tell him about the bakery and changes her employees were inspired to make after getting the free sign and logo.
When she turned the conversation to him, Hunter answered in the way everyone expected him to.
Work was great... the company was expanding... so many clients they're excited to work with.
He did this because he couldn't explain the other development that was creating a bigger and bigger impact on his life.
Hunter's craving for alcohol had grown but only in relation to the cute bartender he knew would be serving it every Friday night.
What first started as a simple curiosity and attraction seemed to be taking up more and more space in his mind.
He wanted to get to know him, see more of him, show River Conners why he should get to know Hunter better too.
Time he typically spent obsessing over the next big move for his company was instead being filled with the next big step in their relationship.
Which was crazy considering that what they had could barely be called that.
It was simply a few words and pleasantries shared across an occasionally sticky bar but those words were growing to mean more to Hunter every day.
His life had definitely become too lonely.
The possibility of a brief conversation in the middle of someone's shift now seemed more compelling than the riveting work he completed on a daily basis but trying to logic himself out of it didn't work.
Hunter was very much smitten by a man he barely knew.
It made him restless these days.
He grew less satisfied in his hours turned days turned weeks behind his desk.
It all seemed to take away from the time he spent trying to see behind River's impenetrable mask.
A savior complex Hunter didn't realize he had was working overtime, pushing him to go back each and every week.
How long has this been going on?
A month?
Counting on his fingers the number of times Hunter went back to 'Adonis' he realized that was accurate.
Sweet old Anna was still outlining the bakery's plan to expand their soup line but Hunter was checked out, already deciding to pay Adonis another visit tonight.
"The pumpkin soup would be such a nice addition, no?"
"No... I mean, yes. That soup would be great, Anna."
A woman with as much life experience as her definitely knew when a man was not paying attention but she satisfied herself with the response anyway, releasing a pleased hum as the contemplated her new pumpkin soup recipe.
Hunter's eyes continually strayed to the time lit up in the bottom corner of his screen.
As he got closer and closer to the end of the day, time seemed to slow down just to torture him and his work was definitely suffering for it.
The eloquence and detail he usually invested into his emails was slowly condensed into bare bones.
People were lucky if they even got three sentences out of Hunter who was far more concerned about finishing so he could leave than anything else.
Finally, the clock struck 5:30 pm and Hunter couldn't get out of his seat fast enough.
As Hunter was locking up his office door, he turned to find his PA, Joshua, staring at him with wide eyes.
Joshua was a dark-skinned man, smaller than Hunter in just about every way.
He was half a head shorter and his metabolism didn't allow him to keep even one extra pound of fat on his thin frame but he styled himself like he was ten feet tall, all crisp long lines in a business casual that looked a lot more approachable than Hunter's uptight suits.
Thinking of that now, Hunter could see why the man was so shocked.
Hunter's suit was in complete disarray, his jacket off, his sleeves pushed up and his tie embarrassingly disheveled.
"Are you okay?" Josh asked, his jaw still slack.
"I'm fine. I just felt a bit hot inside my office."
"No, I mean is there a family emergency or something? Why are you leaving on time?" he clarified, clearly trying to tease the taller man.
"You always leave right after the rooster crows to wake people up. You basically live here on most nights and treat 5:30 like a suggestion but look," he pulled up his watch...
"You're right on time."
"Shut up," Hunter groaned, not caring how unprofessional he sounded.
"It's not a crime to want to go home."
"I agree. Which is why I've been trying to convince you to leave on time for years," Joshua shot back.
Hunter kept his mouth shut since he did remember several conversations along those lines.
Joshua reached behind his desk, grabbing his bag and racing to follow the taller man.
"Seriously, what's changed?"
The elevator arrived but Joshua didn't drop the question.
Instead, Joshua threw out ideas and guesses as the elevator doors closed and it didn't take long for him to stumble across the broad category of 'love'.
This got Hunter's face going from paper white to tomato red in seconds.
"So it's a crush," Joshua exclaimed excitedly, not reducing his tone even as they heard the ding of the elevator before the doors slid open.
Their seal of privacy was broken but Joshua didn't falter for one second.
"Who is the amazing person that caught your eye...?" Joshua stopped speaking, getting drowned out by the noise of several conversations happening all at the same time.
They both turned to look ahead and Hunter's eyes went wide seeing the floor in front of him in a complete mess.
Several people were walking around and yelling at once, their voices blending together in an angry blur.
There was a man off to the side, his head hung and eyes misty as if he was on the verge of tears but emerging from the fray was Kellie, coming toward the elevator with such haste that her long braids flew away from her round cheeks.
She stopped her pursuit when her eyes fell upon Hunter and the look of relief that passed over her face was intense.
What just happened?

What are your tips for new fanfic writers?
Oh, jeeze... 🤔
Keep in mind that I haven't completed an actual story since, I think, high- No, middle school.
But, if I had to say anything, nail down the major plot points?
Also, be careful about info dumping. That's a problem that I tend to have personally.
Also, try to put yourself into the characters' shoes & think about how you'd react in their situation. While you might not actually want them to react that way in the story, it could give valuable insight that could lead you to how you actually want them to react.
And keep in mind their motivations & goals. Think about the position that they're coming from & why they're doing the things that they do.
It also helps to build them a backstory in order to build their thought processes off of. Even if that backstory ends up being mostly subtext for just your use with only little tidbits sprinkled throughout the story itself.
Like, in the Super Mario Movie, at the end of the movie, Bowser said something along the lines of "I was finally going to be happy" & "I'm gonna make you miserable just like me." This implies that maybe Bowser hasn't had a very good life. Possibly even that he grew up in an abusive or neglectful household.
If true, then it could also explain why Bowser is often portrayed as being a very present & caring father to Bowser Jr. in the games as victims of child abuse either end up perpetuating the cycle of pain or, in this case, breaking it entirely.
Of course, even if this is true, that doesn't excuse any of the things he's done or tried to do.
Which is another thing to keep in mind. For a dynamic story, everything has consequences, whether positive or negative. And just because the character is your blorbo, that doesn't make them exempt from cause & effect. A good author keeps these things in mind.
Something else is the societal pressures & expectations that would be placed upon your characters based on the situation of the society around them.
For instance, the Gerudo from Legend of Zelda. They are an all-woman (for the most part) society that only gets 1 male ever 100 years. They also reproduce in the same way that humans do. As such, this forces them to create a culture run entirely by women, which in & of itself is an interesting concept to explore much like with the Greek Amazons. However, a consequence of this is that each & every Gerudo woman would realistically have a LOT of pressure put on them from a very young age to leave home, find a man, & have as many daughters as possible. Why? Because if they don't then their entire culture will die.
Something else to consider is that 3 of these 100 year men have turned into evil, power-hungry warlords hellbent on conquering their much larger, much more populated neighbor who also happens to have more land & resources on hand. So, every time these warlords have been dealt with, it logically would inevitably result in renewed prejudices towards the Gerudo, which the women have to deal with the consequences of because it wasn't just these 3 men who were responsible. A lot of the Gerudo women supported their campaigns to go to war too.
This, most likely, is part of the reason why the Gerudo in recent games have put a ban on men entering their capital settlement. As due to these compiled traumatic experiences, their society has most likely developed misandry towards the males of their own culture.
Another good thing is ✨️worldbuilding✨️ which circles right back around to my last point! In case you haven't noticed, I LVE worldbuilding!!
Figuring out how the world around your characters works can give you insight as to how those characters have adapted to react to things.
Things like culture, which is influenced by language, customs, sayings, beliefs, foods, clothing styles, who they're allied to, & the local environment. The environment including the climate, weather, season, & local topography as well as available plants & animals which, in & of itself, influences what materials are available & thus affects things like the food they eat & the clothes they wear. Things like that.
All these things can contribute to how someone acts in subtle or obvious ways. For instance, did you know that it would be considered a social faux pas to stick your chopsticks upright into a bowl of rice at a Chinese establishment or residence because it resembles the incense that is commonly burned at graves?
At least, that's what I've heard. I could've been misinformed.
Another important thing to consider is if a situation makes logical sense. If it doesn't, but is somehow integral to your story, then explain why it's important or how it's possible.
I just recently read a story where... You know what? I'll put in a link to a post I made concerning it below.
Now, I will warn you that the post is a rant/vent, so don't be surprised at the pointedness of it. Even so, I think that I made some good points.
Here: Establishing the Rules of Your Fanfic
Also, don't be afraid to just throw things at the wall to see what sticks or even let your environment influence you. Sometimes things will just jump out at you from doing your daily hullabaloo.
Oh yeah! And OneLook! OneLook is a Godsend when you're looking for a word, can't remember, but know the meaning.
Following that, be careful about repeating the same words & phrases in close proximity to each other.
Of course, you don't have to do all this. It's just what I, personally, do.
Either way, that's about all I have. I hope it helps! :D

The bunnies’ other jobs!
From my bunny cafe au
((I am so peeved :((( I had this all written out!! And I deleted it by accident!! Darnnnnn!!!))
Anon asked “You mentioned that some of the bunnies have day jobs so do they all have jobs outside the cafe or just a few?” (Something along these lines…again…I deleted it by accident 😔)
👯♂️💕👯♂️💕👯♂️💕👯♂️💕👯♂️💕👯♂️💕👯♂️💕👯♂️💕👯♂️💕
Diluc/‘Angel’
After his father got bored with the wine industry, he passed the whole company off to Diluc on his 18th birthday in order to shift his focus to mining. Diluc found himself swamped with all kinds of business decisions while just barely being an adult. He expanded the company and hired some very trustworthy people to handle things for him so he could finish college
When the business was given to him, Diluc and Kaeya had an explosive fight over it. Kaeya felt like he deserved to have some say in what happens to the business, he’s still a part of the family! But Diluc refused to let him in on any decisions so Kaeya packed his bags and left (not before cussing him out in front of their father, staff and business partners). He was just in a silly, goofy mood. They’re fine now, not on the best terms but they do chat and meet up for lunch on occasion.
He is filthy rich, he couldn’t spend all of his all of his money if he tried, so he doesn’t really need the job at the cafe! Kaeya got him the job because he knew his brother was stuck in a weird, antisocial funk and needed some fun in his life
Diluc loves this job, he has a great time, but it isn’t his main job. His priority will always be the family business!! If he has to quit his job at the cafe, he would in a heartbeat
👯♂️💕👯♂️💕👯♂️💕👯♂️💕👯♂️💕👯♂️💕👯♂️💕👯♂️💕👯♂️💕
Kaeya
Kaeya was going to go into the police academy but was scouted out by a modeling agency. They had seen him at Ragnvindr company events and thought ‘well damn’ so they gave him a pretty generous deal
Kaeya makes a good living off of modeling, the tips and paycheck from the cafe. He rakes in cash pretty quickly just cause he knows how to get it. That, and his dad sends him checks every other month as well. Kaeya thinks of it as ‘I’m sorry’ money. He isn’t wrong
He doesn’t travel much for modeling, which he doesn’t mind, so he kinda just hangs around the city with a lot of free time on his hands between photo shoots. That’s why he got this job at the cafe! It gives him something to do and it’s fun as hell ;)
Albedo
Bedo is one busy bunny. He finished college early and is getting his masters degree online. He works most days at the cafe and on the weekends, he tutors other college students in bio/chem/science related subjects
(He was actually Xiao’s tutor back when he was failing chemistry!! Xiao is very thankful for Albedo’s help!!)
His dream is to become a biochemist, he’s always been interested in cells and what makes up living beings. So having a career in that field would make him the happiest man alive
His mother and sister live outside the city in a more rural area so he spends a lot of time FaceTiming the two of them! Klee is always so excited to hear about Albedo’s experiments or the people he’s met while working in such a bustling, fun city :)
Zhongli
Zhongli is a simple man! He’s a bunny waiter and an artist
He creates intricate pieces based on folklore from different cultures, focusing mostly on dragons. His favorite medium is paint, he loves painting on glass and layering the panes in order to create a 3D piece
He sells his works to galleries, shops and anyone who wants them! As long as they appreciate the story behind the artwork. Sadly…He undersells his work. He could def be making more money but he just does not desire money or material goods the way others may
So he got his job at the cafe in order to help out his dear friend Ningguang, not for money, he only planned on working there for a month or two until she got more bunnies but…he ended up really loving the people he works with :’) he looks forward to working with them now and texts/calls them outside of work to meet up for lunch or bowling (such an old man thing to do omfg)
Dainsleif/‘Sweetie’
Dain was a bouncer at another bar before leaving to come to Celestia’s! He’s good friends with Beidou, they belong to the same motorcycle club so when she was talking to him about the lack of security at the cafe/bar, he stepped in to help out
Little did he know…he’d actually become a bunny…And like it
This is his full time job now, he doesn’t have another for the time being. While he is a bunny at the cafe, he still keeps an eye out for any threats to his coworkers and has access to the offices upstairs (Ningguang’s office and the security office)
When he isn’t waiting tables, he’s upstairs in a tank top and sweatpants keeping an eye on the security cameras and talking to the other security guards through their ear pieces
Ajax
Ajax is a student who doesn’t really have much time on his hands
He mows lawns in the summer and he’s quit his job as a cashier to come work at the cafe! He mostly works night shifts his cause he’s still going to school aaaaaand he’s on his college’s swim team! He’s about to graduate so he works close with his coach to help train the others on the team
He doesn’t really want his family knowing that he skips around in a skimpy bunny outfit and fucking customers most nights but I mean…They’re bound to find out if they see him in pictures people post
Xiao/‘Tofu’
Xiao is an art student!! He wants to be a tattoo artist :)
He’s already got one sleeve of tattoos, it’s unfinished but you can’t really tell just by looking. When he isn’t at the cafe, he’s either in class or shadowing Ganyu, his best friend and tattoo artist. Their art styles greatly differ, she focuses her craft on cutesy, colored tattoos, but she is skilled. And Xiao looks up to her
Xiao admires Zhongli too, they met at the cafe and when Zhongli found out Xiao wants to be a tattoo artist he told him that once he’s licensed, he wants to get a tattoo from him :’)
Baizhu/‘Honey’
Baizhu is a (mostly) full time pharmacist, hence why he isn’t usually at the cafe
He also has a niece, Qiqi, who he babysits often. He loves her very much so he has no problem watching her! Baizhu will even bring her to the pharmacy with him when he’s swamped with work. In the break room, he has a play kitchen, coloring books and a bunch of puzzles to keep Qiqi occupied while he works :)
When he’s not at work, he’s at home resting. He has chronic pain flare ups in his back and shoulders that can make life miserable :( he has plenty of good days that outweigh the bad! And as a pharmacist, he has access to any medicine he needs to make his life easier!
Dottore(Alain)/‘Doc’
Alain’s an oral surgeon who’s a little bit….too into his job
He isn’t phased by blood or gore so he’s easily able to conduct procedures that would make other squeamish. He’ll pull teeth, put in dental implants, remove rotten tissue, any of that without even flinching
Outside of that, he works at the cafe. He wears a mask in order to avoid being recognized even though at his job as a surgeon, he’s usually wearing a medical mask anyways. It’s just a precaution
This has nothing to do with his career but he used to be a tap dancer and actor so he’d join in on local theatre shows! He helped build sets when he wasn’t rehearsing. He doesn’t have time for that anymore (which kinda makes him sadddd) but he has all kinds of theatre playlists on his phone and in his car that he’ll sing along to
Scaramouche/‘Boss’
Scara’s job at the cafe is his main job! His side job is something you may not expect from such a grump
He works at an animal shelter! In fact, he brings cats home to train so they have an increased chance of being adopted. Someone is more likely to adopt a potty trained, socialized cat than a feral cat who doesn’t know what a litter box is. So Scara brings them to his apartment for some one-on-one socializing, training and cuddling
One time he offhandedly mentioned working at an animal shelter while he was working at the cafe and sure enough, three separate customers from the cafe came by to adopt!!! Only one actually took an animal home but he was still surprised that those people had listened to him and cared enough to come by
Scara is a jerk most of the time but when he’s at home…by himself…With a lil kitten sleeping in his lap while he plays games on his PC…Yeah, he softens up a bit
So as you can see, we have a very diverse group working at the cafe! They’ve all learned a lot from each other, come to appreciate each other’s friendship and come to help each other out when one of their coworkers is in need or upset.

Humans are weird: Assassins
( Don’t forget to come see my on my new patreon and support me for early access to stories and personal story requests :D https://www.patreon.com/NiqhtLord )
The soft light of the morning dawn slowly filtered into the room through cracks between the lavish curtains. Streaks of light bounded off the polished gold detailing of the rooms furniture and made the room appear as if the very stars themselves had come to adorn themselves upon the walls. So bright were the reflections that it managed to find their way underneath several layers of bed sheets and directly into the face of ambassador Glifin.
Roused from his seemingly peaceful sleep Glifin slowly pushed off the sheets one by one and rolled to his feet. The loud thuds of his hooves touching the floor sent a shudder through the room as he stood and stretched out, his general grogginess slowly shaking off. With a loud yawn finally leaving his throat he rose and shambled over to his desk to begin his day’s work.
Tonight he was hosting a party honoring visiting royalty from his home world on Argon. The prince had decided he wanted to visit this miserable planet he had been stationed on, though why anyone would want to visit this world was beyond him.
Glifin’s posting on the human homeworld had been sold to him as a great honor but in reality it had been a means to keep him from continuing his political rise. On Argon he had been a senator whose mere whisper was enough to make generals and minor nobles quiver in fear. His star struck ascension didn’t go unnoticed however and just before he was to be elected into the office of Artock Supreme and reside over the entire senate the royal family had stepped in and given him the position of ambassador to humanity.
Within the spam of a solar month he was shipped off the throne world and sent to this backwater dump of a world; were he had to smile and feign sincerity to these miserable sacks of flesh all the while his political powerbase slowly began to crumble in the senate.
Now fully consumed by feelings of dread over his situation Glifin did not hear the sudden knock at the door. Only after several more knocks did Glifin look up from his paper work.
“Come in.”
The door slowly opened and Glifin’s aide Jafal walked in and bowed.
“My apologies for disturbing you at this early hour, but Mr. Robinson has arrived with your evening wear for tonight’s event.”
Glifin nodded and shuffled his papers back into his desk and locked it just as a new figure entered the room.
“Say what you want about Argonian fashion, but they do have such a wonderful sense of aesthetics when it comes to room decoration.”
A slim human emerged from the doorway pushing a small cart with a metal rod built in holding up two clothing bags.
“You have a problem with Argonian styles?” Glifin said as he rose to his feet and walked over to Robinson as he pulled out a tiny box device and casually threw it down on the floor. The moment of contact it sprung open and in an instance a large set of mirrors emerged from it giving an impressive view from all sides.
“Oh far be it for me to question ones culture, “ Robinson continued as he opened the first bag and stepped aside for Glifin to see the contents, “but some would consider the amount of dead mammals your people adorn on themselves to be a tad morbid.”
From the corner of his eye Glifin saw Jafal’s face redden from anger but with a motion from his ambassador kept his tongue still.
“I would find it surprising for a human to find anything morbid with the amount of toxins you willingly consume.”
Robinson flashed a brief smile and shrugged. “You do have me there; personally caffeine will most likely be the end of me one day, but we’re not here to talk about my eventual demise.”
“An end that will come much sooner if you continue to waste my time with idle chatter.”
Humanities incessant need for small talk and idle conversation was something Glifin had never come to terms with; and this human fashion designer was by far the worst example he had ever put up with. Part of him viewed it as a challenge to see how long he could endure before snapping the tiny man’s neck, and though such a moment would no doubt bring him great pleasure the other part of him realized that Robinsons work was well regarded among prominent members of society. Not just with other humans, but with other alien dignitaries who had embassies on the human homeworld. It had been surprisingly an ambassador from the Hive that had recommended the human’s services when it was suggested that Glifin update his style to match his new role.
Walking up to the first black bag that Robinson had opened Glifin inspected the wardrobe.
Inside was a finely trimmed suit of Rygonian Leaper fur of a dark blue with a sash of Haponi tongue and a dashing pair of pants metal grey Roller Worm hide.
It was custom in Argonian culture to wear the skin of that which you have killed, thus the outfit before him was a prime example Glifin’s traditions.
“A fine work indeed,” Glifin said as he ran his fingers across the material, feeling the roughness against his skin. “For a human” he finished as he turned and smirked at Robinson.
“With the effort it took to obtain the materials you requested I would say it is nothing less than an example a miracle performed before your very eyes.”
Glifin stopped his examination of the attire and looked at the human. “For a miracle you sound so…displeased with your work.”
Robinson crossed his arms for a moment and pouted as if considering his next words.
“My work is perfection, I can assure you, but a man in my trade is not just meant to listen to the specifications of their client but their intention as well.”
“And your point?” Glifin queried.
After a moment he outstretched his hand and casually gestured to the Argonian clothing. “Is this really the message you want to be sending?”
Glifin looked at the suit again then back at Robinson. “I don’t understand.”
“If you go to the event dressed like this it will send the message that you still value your traditions, but I worry that it shows a disconnect with your current situation; almost as if you are attempting to relive the past.”
“You would appear as an old war hero trapped in past glories that the other guests would acknowledge, but not make to engage in conversation.”
Glifin opened to rebuke the human but stopped himself as he pondered the man’s words. Robinson stepped forward to the other black case. “Now this,” Robinson said as he slowly pulled down the zipper revealing the contents, “this would make you not only the talk of the party, but would make you the talk of the after party all the way back to your homeworld were many people would no doubt be very much interested in your on goings.”
“Each piece has been designed by some of the most dangerous animals on this planet, and in some cases far more ravenous then anything back on your respectable homeworld.”
Robinson went about and pointed out the specific materials used one by one.
“The body is made from a powerful species that inhabits the various swamps and wetlands around the globe with jaws so powerful they could cut you in two with a single bite.”
“Each of the buttons along the coat are the fangs of the most poisonous reptilian creatures on the planet; each one capable of killing a human let alone an Argonia ten times over with a single drop of their venom.”
“Now the pants I am particularly proud of as they are the skin of the deadliest hunter of all the planets seas. They can smell fresh blood from miles away and commonly take on prey twice their size.”
Gliffin heard Robinson go through the list of creatures but his expression remained emotionless.
“Why would these creatures be any more interesting than my own worlds?”
Robinson smiled. “Because everyone from your world already knows about them and have hunted the same creatures for generations. Yet I would be so bold as to wager my humble shop that none of them have ever faced down the black eyed stare of a great white shark, nor wrestled the deadly crocodile demons of the swamps, and most certainly have been quick enough to pluck out the teeth of rattle snakes just as they lunge to strike.”
“Neither have I,” Gliffin said with a hint of disgust in his tone, “and you would make a liar out of me for saying so.”
“My dear ambassador, who but you could say what you do or don’t in your free time?”
Robinson leaned forward and whispered into Gliffin’s ear “I am no doubt sure many of your females would find the idea of a striking Argonian such as yourself sneaking off to go hunting the unknown for sport a rather attractive quality.”
Glifin looked at the new set of clothing and then back at the original set of traditional clothes. He went back and forth for several moments before finally settling his gaze on the traditional garments.
“Take these away.”
_______________________________________
The lights outside Robinson’s humble shop slowly went off one by one as he walked between the displays straightening out garments and folding tossed aside pieces customers had casually put aside when the door rang.
“I’m sorry but we are closed for the night.” Robinson said as he returned behind the counter with a stack of clothes.
The figure slowly approached the counter and took off their hat. Robinson looked up from the register to see the figure was a Rohanan; a species known for its gel like appearance yet could collect random bits and bobs to create a sudo skeleton and present themselves as humanoid.
“That’s alright,” the Rohanan said, “I am here to pay for a set I ordered for a….friend.”
“Then they are most fortunate to have a friend such as you then.”
Robinson’s smiling nature unnerved the Rohanan but nonetheless they placed a small envelope on the table and slid it across. Robinson placed a hand on it and tapped his fingers several times against the contents inside before opening it and spilling the credit chips on to the table.
“Is it satisfactory?” the Rohanan said, their nervousness building as the human finished counting the chips.
“Oh yes indeed; I believe you have paid in full for your order.” With a swipe of his hand the human pushed the chips back into the envelope and sealed it. “Always a pleasure to deal with such an honest and upstanding man such as yourself during such troubling times.”
Robinson leaned in towards the Rohanan, his expression shifting from smiling to one of mild concern. “I heard there was a most unfortunate incident up at the Argonian embassy several nights ago.”
“Several guests including the visiting prince and ambassador himself all died from poisoning.” The Rohanan confirmed.
“How gruesome!” Robinson said as he recoiled in shock and finished putting away the remaining clothes while he talked over his shoulder.
The Rohanan regarded the human for a moment before continuing. “The strangest thing was that the poison was not native to this world, but is most common in the Hagar system under Dovorian rule.”
“A most embarrassing situation I am sure considering the Dovorian and Argonian people despise each other.”
“Indeed; one might wonder how such a toxin came into contact with them.”
Robinson shrugged and turned as he finished placing the final shirt back into the display. “With all of those fangs, bones, and animal skins I would not be surprised if someone grabbed a tooth or two that hadn’t been fully drained of its contents.”
The Rohanan laughed and placed their hat back on their head just as they stopped at the door.
“You were worth every penny, assassin.”
“An assassin you say?” Robinson’s smile returned and he casually waved to the departing customer “You must have me mistaken for someone else, as I am but a simple tailor.”

ITT: PREMIUM FEATURES YOU'D PAY TUMBLR DIRECTLY FOR
Here’s the plan: Tumblr telling its users that they can get paid for creating fanworks is a legal minefield for reasons many other people have explained in great detail already. Suffice to say it’s a bad idea, but Tumblr does need an income of some kind or it’s going to go away and we’ll all be stuck having to choose between fucking Facebook, Reddit and Twitter, none of which will make us happy (or, alternatively, uniquely miserable in the same way Tumblr does).
So instead of just yelling at them for having another horrible idea that appeals to nobody who actually uses the site and letting them think that the monetisation itself is the issue and not the stupid way they're trying to do it, I thought it might be cool if we pooled our ideas for premium features that we’d pay for directly. Once we’ve got a good batch of hypothetical features pooled in one place, we can collectively get in touch with Tumblr and tell them about the ones we like best, because a whole bunch of people contacting them and telling them the same things will mean a lot more to them than it would if we were all sending different messages individually! What premium features would you pay for?
Here’s a few of my ideas to start with:
No ads, obviously
Animated avatars
Badges for posts and profiles
Advanced custom theme tools, incl. tutorials
higher filesize limits for gifs and other images
higher filesize limits for audio and video
more images in a single post
higher post limit
a custom email address using your URL
GIVE US THE PORN BACK.
A friend mentioned "mood themes" like what they had on LJ back in the day, too. I'd also love it if Tumblr implemented community paid ads, provided they were properly moderated by real human people and displayed alongside appropriate content. I'd be fucking stoked to see what kind of bullshit the people on this website would spend $5 to make me see. That'd be amazing.
Let's crowdfund some suggestions that we can contact Tumblr with.

Hi I have finally gotten around to reading all of the Alterna Logs after speedrunning my way through world 5 and 6 because I had enough eggs and didn't have to play any of them and. and.
Wow! They did a great job of continuing the Splatoon trend of giving us a funny concept with absolutely decimating lore behind it! I'm absolutely miserable now! /pos
more. under the cut. spoiler warning
ough what the FUCK /pos /pos /very much positive! Wow! All of humanity is dead but the new species exist because of US! That's absolutely miserable!
Honestly, I never really expected an actual reason to how the sea life evolved so quickly. I mean, it's only been 12,000 years since humanity died. There's no way that squids evolved into humanoids THAT FAST. But I didn't think much of it. Sure, Splatoon has a tendency to give proper and often detailed explanations towards little details (ex. the reason you can customize your character after the beginning is because squids can change color irl), but I just figured... eh. It's Splatoon. they can do what they want.
But NOPE! Turns out, there IS a reason for it!
I don't know if there's anyone still reading this who doesn't yet know the lore but doesn't care about spoilers, but here's a copy-pasted message from me talking to my friends about what the reason is:
"The few remaining humans on earth decided to build a dome underground, for their safety. Eventually, they developed these 'crystals' made from the bodily fluids of squids, that could essentially read minds and reflect the hopes of humanity. They filled the ceiling of the dome with these crystals, and they turned into the Earth's sky- the humans just wanted to be on the surface again, all we really wanted was to be back up there. All we wanted was to see the sky.
Eventually, this last group of humans had children, and the new generation was just as wistful as the last; they wanted to be on the surface too. Even though they had never seen it.
Against the wishes of their elders, they built a rocket ship to get back up there. But this... was a mistake. As soon as they attempted to turn it on, it started burning up the ceiling. The 'sky' fell, crystals included. It killed everyone. There were no more humans left on Earth.
But these crystals... they began to, essentially, merge with the sea life around their dome. And as the crystals reflected humanity's hopes and dreams, the sea life began to rapidly evolve into humanoids. They became humanoid because of us. Because of our desires and love and hope, the squids and octopi and every other creature we had found began to become us, or as close as they can get.
They are our last creation, our last little huzzah. The product of our last hope. They wanted to go to the surface just as we had, because that was what we wanted. They became land animals because of our dreams. They left the dome because that was all we wanted to do.
They saw our sky again for us. And yet, they had no clue that they were our result. They just... wanted to see the sky. Just as we had.
In typical Splatoon fashion, you have a funny premise (humanoid sea creatures have a society) followed by absolutely devastating lore."
Just... wow. Alright. Alright! That's some of the most horrifying lore we have yet! I mean, knowing that all the humans died because of World War 5 + global warming, including the few who survived in domes, was already miserable, but now.. now we get to know the history behind it. Now we get to know more about the domes they lives in, now we get to know more about their final years. Now we get to know that they hoped and dreamed too much.
They followed the story of Icarus: they flew too close to the sky. That's all they wanted to see, all they wanted was to be close to it again, they just wanted to see the blue sky and feel the breeze and watch the clouds. But they failed, and the sky they had, fake and artificial as it was, fell.
... Like Chicken Little.

OH MY GOD??
I thought they were just named after the weather! Big Man's still left out tho...
EDIT in here too: Y'all. I KNOW Big Man is a pun on Man-ta ray. I was talking about how Shiver and Frye are named after groups of their respective fish, meanwhile Big Man's left out because a group of mantas aren't exactly called a big manta.

My #1 post of 2022
Wait, I just realized.
In the final fight of Octo Expansion, against Commander Tartar and the NILS Statue, Tartar talks about how he was created to help the next sapient species not make the same mistakes as humanity.
He talks about how he was disgusted with the new species, and how he wanted to start anew.
Specifically, he details that he was horrified at the fact that they "obsess over trivial things like fashion", and "wage war over minor genetic deviations". All of these are things humanity did, too.
But now, with the new information from Splatoon 3, that... gets painted in a bit of a different light.
They obsess over fashion and fight over small differences, like us... because they're a product of us. They evolved the way they did because of our influence, as unintentional as it was.
Back then, I just thought that it was an unfortunate coincidence. But now it's... it's weird to look at.
Tartar hated them for the same things we did, not knowing that they were a product of our influence. God, that's just.. sad, huh?

just some venting & thinking about things in general under the cut ill be ok im just having one of those days u kno
recently talked to my dear friend who lives in chicago about how things are going & we were talking about him trying to raise enough/earn enough money to get his lovely amazing fiance a computer thatll be good for doing illustration work and anyway the point of me mentioning this is that i told him "yeah im unemployed right now" and i keep coming back to that phrase because it just feels... weird and incorrect despite yeah, i dont have a job right now, so that makes me unemployed. but ive been thinking a lot about my physical and mental health problems especially after how awful my last job was and how much i just felt completely and utterly unable to handle it or pass myself off as a ~normal person able to function normally~ no matter how much i tried. lately i wonder if the combo of my chronic pain/other physical illness problems and my various mental things makes it almost impossible for me to find and hold down a job that also isnt miserable for me yknow. as far as mental health goes my long term job at the flower farm was good because i didnt have to do customer service and my coworkers aside from one were very understanding of my audio processing issues and would explain things or help me until i was able to do things right and that was great. but on the flip side that job was so physically demanding that it literally broke my back and now i dont know if im even physically able to really do a job that i got my associates degree in horticulture for! like i dont think im physically capable of working on a farm anymore and i dont know how physically demanding greenhouse jobs would be in comparison but i also know that those are tough competition.
ive been hoping that there would be an opening at the library i volunteer at which i could maybe get but at this point im kind of giving up on that option because theres almost never any openings and when there are its like librarian students from the nearby uni get preference which makes sense. like two days ago i checked indeed for my area and saw that the humane society that i used to volunteer at has two different job openings so im going to work on applying for those but im also really filled with doubt because of how physically demanding the description of the job sounds. i am very good with taking care of animals and cleaning which is a lot of what the job would be but idk i just am worried that i just am unable to hold down a job like i said before.
also just feeling very discouraged and disheartened lately i just have so little faith in myself and am constantly doubting myself and feel like giving up on everything. last night i had really awful trauma nightmares which isnt unusual i have a lot of nightmares but the ones last night really shook me up because it was all these people from the past and the present including my parents my abuser and people i love like humiliating me and yelling at me about how nothing i did or created was any good and that its all trash and embarrassing and that i just need to give up and that wanting to be an actor is just a fairy tale dream that isnt possible and stuff with my parents throwing things at me and just very stressful. and idk i do feel like giving up a lot lately im always begging the universe for some kind of sign of what im supposed to do or some kind of help from the universe but instead i just get nightmares of people telling me to give up. but i wont ill keep trying even if its hard
anyway thanks if you read all this. love you and hope yoyr days going well

Limited Edition. So Far Away
[FULL MASTERLIST] [Limited Edition Master list]
Beta: N/A Rating: All audiences Genre: Fantasy, Comedy, Fluffy Fluff, Adventure. Pairing: Bts x Friend!Reader Words: 1.4K
Summary: It is your first time buying proper merchandise, there are new chibi figurines and the first person to order will recieve a limited edition set. But what happens when BTS have gone missing without a trace and a few days later you receive your package. The box says congratulations, you open to find your limited edition figures, they look so lifelike. OH WAIT! it’s cause they are.

Returning home was quiet, absolutely no stress about little men being seen. Even going through customs was a breeze. You felt like you had succeeded but in what you were not sure. The boys had shown you around Seoul for a week before you had to return home.
You didn’t miss them, at least not yet. But when you opened the door to your home, it felt almost empty. You walked into the house and heard a shuffling. “Who is there?” you said thinking perhaps it was Jungkook or Seokjin raiding the cupboards again
“Hey best friend” A wave of disappointment washed over you. “where have you been?”
“Oh…” You shrugged “Around”
Walking dejectedly to your room, you went to unpack your suitcase and saw the dollhouse. “It hurt a lot to see it without them in it. You placed it on your desk. Before promptly face planting your bed and crying softly.
The days passed, you went back to your university and you started working on assignments and keeping busy with lectures and tutorials. You spent your time filling the void of loneliness and you never had the heart to throw away the dollhouse.
Just when things started to look better, you remembered them when they were Tiny. Rocking out to Mic Drop and Yoongi’s little hand gestures as he rapped.
Or on days you caught a glimpse of the boys on run bts or alive you would remember how they were when they had transformed back.
“How does it feel being the small one?” Namjoon grinned looking over you trying to be intimidating. News flash he wasn’t after seeing him reduced to the size of your hand with dimples and two left feet. That man couldn’t scare you. So why did you cower slightly? It was probably because you were weirded out by the sudden height change.
“It is odd” You muttered “I am used to you all being so small and adorable and needing my help and just generally being cute. But now…”
“Now we are sexy and manly and big and strong” Jimin puffed his chest making Jungkook and Taehyung laugh.
“You can admit it we are beautiful,” Seokjin said
One night you hid it in your closet thinking that maybe it was best to forget it all like it was all a dream. But it wasn’t. They would pop up with another live stream smiling and dropping little hints as if hoping you were watching.
“We really enjoy the Tiny Tan animation videos going around and we are planning to contact the artist and work with them, to create something” Hoseok grinned
You hadn’t left your bed in days hoping that you would soon forget that one day you would wake with no memory of the boys. But the notifications on your videos brought you back to the present.
Life had gone from bad too worse everything was going wrong; family, friends, job, and school work.
Your friends alienated you because you didn’t have time for you anymore so they stopped inviting you to things. Your parents continued their usual.
“you're wasting your life and you aren’t doing anything” “What’s the point of us paying for your college?” “When will you get a job?”
You were sick of their complaining and just everything screaming at you, you were unhappy truly.
Walking through the front door you see your friends all getting ready to go out and they went quiet looking around awkwardly.
Dropping your bag and taking off your shoes you received a call, “Good afternoon this is Y/n speaking” you looked in the fridge for something to eat.
“Hello miss Y/n this is Sejin,” Sejin introduced himself “I am calling to offer you flights to Korea for a week, the boys are feeling quite down and they mentioned wanting to see you” “Is it okay if I think about it and get back to you?” “Of course”
You just walked past your friends hearing a few whispered comments about yourself. Exhausted stepping into your room you flipped back on your bed staring holes at your cupboard.
Unable to hold back any longer you, opened the door and took the dollhouse from the top shelf and placed it on your desk. You opened the front panel and inside you saw a full-sized letter. It was obvious they had snuck it in your bag before you left Korea.
“Dear Y/n, we were not the best guests in your home. We are sorry for making you cry. We all hope to meet you once again. Namjoon” they had each written a tiny little message underneath with similar messages.
“If you ever miss my handsome face, come see us, also I need someone to make me those delicious snacks you make TT visit again soon, Jin”
“I would like you to know I will cherish the memories and photos we took together, Jimin”
“I hope you always feel welcome to visit, Taehyung”
“Whenever I feel down I will think back to the times we had together, your hope”
“I don’t like to play favorites but you are my favorite Army. You made me so happy and treated us like people, Jungkook”
You couldn’t help the tears that fell especially when you saw Yoongi’s comment. “What is keeping you there? You are miserable. Come join BigHit and take any position you wish. I am just being selfish and rude because you are leaving, Yoongi”
Taking out your suitcase you shoved everything inside, clothes shoes and looking around, was there anything else you needed or wanted to bring.
You took your computer external justice, all your paperwork, and zipped up your suitcase. Calling Sejin back.
“Actually Sejin does the offer still stand that I can get a job in Korea?” You said rolling out to the kitchen opening the fridge and grabbing a bottle of water and some fruit. “Well that’s the other reason why we were calling you back, Mr. Bang really wants to offer you a job” “Listen I will take it, is it too much of a bother to ask for a place to stay?”
“Of course we can find you a small apartment,” Sejin said “you would work as an assistant manager so you would work with me if you want you can have any job you would like,” he said and the girls were looking at you. “What’s the earliest flight you can get me there? I am packed and ready to go as we speak?”
“I can get you on the next available flight. How far are you away from the airport?” “An hour?” “I can get you a plane in two hours?” “Perfect I will be there”
Hanging up you felt a sense of relief “I’m leaving my parents will grab my stuff, so please do not stress. Our lease is up in a month so I will pay it out”
“Where are you going?” Your roommate asked hugging you
“Korea, I got a job a house and a few friends that I miss dearly” you hugged all your friends and sighed “I have been miserable after they left and I don’t think I can live without them”
“Good luck and have fun”
“Listen I will call you, I will keep in touch and if you ever want to come see Korea hit me up” you grinned “I am sorry for ghosting you all because I was sad but I think this is what I need”
With your bag in tow, you took a taxi to the airport and boarded the next plane to Korea, the whole way you were watching over the videos you and the boys recorded together.
Getting a notification for a new Live you watched it happily. The boys were talking about things being slow and they wish they could see their Army and perform.
Namjoon received a text and read it silently before grinning wildly. “I got a message from manager-nim” he grinned, showing the others his cell phone and they all grinned.
“Here to Korea?” Taehyung asked excitedly
“Yes and permanently” Yoongi read the text. “As Sejin’s assistant manager”
The comments were going off, “Army we have a new assistant manager please be kind they are a wonderful person who took care of us and brought us back to Korea when we had gone missing”
Jimin read the comments with a laugh. “SAM, SAM, SAM? Why do they keep saying three? What does that mean? Three?”
“Saviour Assistant Manager” Hoseok read over his shoulder laughing.

Ref anon: I hope you can get help for that pain. Maybe a nerve is pinched? I'm really not sure about my future. I have a lot of hobbies but just work a shit customer service job. Getting motivation to do drawing at all is difficult let alone animate. Which is a great mental state to be in when my only plan for my whole life since childhood was animation. 🤷♀️
its tendonitis and im pretty sure the only way to get rid of it is to take a break from working which is obviously not possible so just gonna ignore it till i die i guess \o/
so yeah you struck a cord with me, this got long...
i cant help with motivation, i have too much of it. i lived with my grandparents for a year while grandpa was sick, and it was the first time they'd ever really seen me /work/ and even they were shocked. it really is constant - if i have twenty minutes and im not using it to draw its wasted time, you know? my first roommate here in LA was concerned too - she kept trying to get me to stop working and go out and back then my excuse was i didnt have a job and no money for going out, but really im just like that all the time. i try to balance it with seeing friends and social media and everyday shit like eating food, but its hard, my favorite people are the ones who will just sit and work with me lol! (or going out and working in places im not alone and quiet). i guess what im saying is...if its really your passion, is it not there all the time? i only ask because it took me a long time to realize that although i loved to analyze animation and watch it - the way i process art doesnt quite have what it takes to do that. we all love the end product, but just because the animation part is the most front facing part...doesn't mean that's necessarily where your actual passion might lie...if that makes sense? there's SO MUCH to do in the animation industry, its crazy. for me, i finally realized that all my obsessive energy revolved around character and especially faces, and i just started focusing on that. i would much rather be concepting a wide variety of characters than spending a whole year animating about one minute of a two hour movie.
that said there's also the sad reality that some people have had doors open more easily than others. i feel you about being stuck in a retail job you feel wasted in :( im sorry you are in that position. i hope you are able to make a change, but i understand just how fucking /trapped/ that can be. watching life slip by into nothingness while the tiny snatches of meaning only happen during off hours and scraped together seconds of free time. one of the biggest ironies though is that this is how a lot of original animators felt about dsn*y. i mentioned that on my road trip i stayed with the son of an animator who worked on snow wh*te - he wasnt one of the 9 old men but he was their contemporary and friend, and the animator took the job just to make money off his art. animation just wasnt his full passion and he eventually quit, moved up north, and started experimenting with helicopters and boe*ng lol.
and in reverse of that, as i grew up with a father and a grandfather who worked for boe*ng and the US space program, ALL my open doors were flight and space related - my cousin currently works for N A S A and my other cousin for boe*ng - they took the doors but i didnt want anything to do with it. it took years for my grandpa to finally come to terms with the fact that my passion for art was as strong as his passion for airplanes. he grew up a farm boy daydreaming about flying, and had to take a circuitous route to finally get there - army, college, mechanical engineering, finally rockets. he gave my dad and me all the chances grandpa would have wanted as a kid - my dad took them - i didnt want any of it. i would much rather have had those chances that the animator got.
and then of course there are the institutionalized gates - barriers against entry for women, minorities, LGBQT, people without money...its a LOT to fight against. which is of course why we celebrate the exceptional people who DO break through those barriers and succeed despite it all. but it can be demoralizing to be on the other side of those barriers. demoralizing is too soft a word. i dont think there is a word for how much it can hurt.
some wisdom that might help: randy pa*usch's last lecture - he is a white male who definitely does not understand the race/sex 'walls', but he makes good points, and also he came at the animation industry sideways for very similar reasons - through education and research rather than the traditional job promotion route. and then someone closer to my own age/time: justin scar*ed - i dont mean his road trip videos, i mean the old vlogs from 3-6 years ago when he was 31 divorced and depressed and realizing he had to release himself from his own pressure of his music career. his quest for positivity is an interesting concept, and i sympathized with that feeling of your life taking a direction you didnt chase after but somehow ends up being the thing you were actually looking for the entire time. if you want a success story there’s always my favorite: steve aok*. he went against everything that was set up for him in life and still made it work ^_^ (of course of these three, guess who also grew up the rich kid lol). or norman re*dus who quite literally accidentally became a model and successful actor. im paraphrasing this horribly, but my impression was that as a teenager he was selling shitty cat paintings on the streets of paris - which sounds romantic but miserable at the same time - and then followed a girl to california, got a crappy job in a motorcycle shop, went to a party and yelled at some people from a balcony, landed his first stage role...and eventually created the character of daryl and finally got the chance to have his genius really shine. (sometimes i wonder though, if it was frustrating to end up being famous for acting rather than art which was arguably his true passion?)
i hope any of this helps, i am pretty exhausted lately so apologies if my sentences are incomprehensible in some parts. and you know, my DMs on here are open if you want to talk more specifically off anon <3

turns out I wasn’t quite done yet
@scumerage I realised I wasn't satisfied with my response to you, so now I'm digging a bit. Found sales figures for season 2, and now I'm just looking at the enterprise from a business standpoint.
Fundamentally, the value of OPM lies in delighting the customer. It doesn’t make the customer rich. It’s not something they need. It’s entertainment. If they're not delighted, they won't buy. It's compounded by the fact that the anime has low to no-cost first view access. Unlike a movie theatre where you can at least charge people to watch new releases, most streaming services are very cheap -- or even free if you just want to watch the anime.
Just as movies don't make money on people who only go to the theatres to watch it once, the anime doesn't make any money on people who aren't invested in the story enough to either buy the Blu Rays or DVDs, or the merchandise and they'll only do that if they're really delighted.
So here's the business question: what does delight consist of? Delight is when you get something that you expect and yet is also novel in a way that is pleasurable. We're very weird that way, we like the same but different. How different stories create delight is a variable thing, but they have this element, especially when they run long.
The brand ONE created in OPM takes something very familiar -- strong man saves the world -- and makes it novel by looking at tropes in an unusual way and using it as a platform to explore the human condition. The crazy things that happen, the gags, and the bombast go on top of it.
Who is the customer? Even though it looks and smells a lot like a shonen story, its profitable audience skews older and more female than the usual shonen audience. It's an audience that prioritises quality over quantity. Failing to understand that is the big mistake Bandai did in rushing season 2 out. When Murata puts Zombieman on the cover of volume 17 because he recognises that a lot of the paying audience are women, he understands where his bread is buttered. If you don't understand who your customers are, you fail to sell.
The sales figures were really horrible for season 2 -- shifting 1265 copies of the 1st blu ray in the same time period that the season 1 had shifted 8865. Link https://www.reddit.com/r/OnePunchMan/comments/doi0l9/opm_season_2_volume_1_sold_1265_bd_copies/
You can tell that the sales didn't improve in two critical ways: near-total radio silence on official channels and the increasingly miserable extras included. OAV 6 looks like it was done by people who have all given up and just want to go home -- not a thing you associate with a successful franchise.
Whether or not they make an operating profit on season 2, their sales forecast has just been dragged round the back and shot. Return on investment has tanked and what seemed like a cash cow is looking rather shaky.
Which brings us to mistake number 2: understanding the brand.
Natsume really got that brand. He approached OPM as a drama that was only secondarily about a superhero. And then he got together a great and talented cast of animators to really make it pop. A win on all fronts that brought what made OPM work to life in a coherent way. Even people who generally didn't do anime bought it. So the brand the anime created was something of rarity and high quality in addition to the drama, the humour and the subversion of familiar tropes.
That is something Sakurai did not get. You can talk about characterisation and pacing and animation until the cows come home, but the biggest problem was a lack of a clear director's viewpoint. He could have taken a different point of view from Natsume and had it work, maybe lost a few people, but he’d have gained some more. The lack of a clear vision and understanding of its brand really hurt and was the source of confusion from which everything else flowed.
Expectation and novelty. When you don't meet expectation, people don't buy in. Plain business. If you don't understand the brand and you don't understand the customer, you won't meet their expectation.
Why did Bandai do this? They’re not stupid. They’re not blinded by greed, let’s be clear on that. They have a business model based around regular availability which has worked well for most of their properties and failed to check if those assumptions were true with regards to OPM. They're right that in general, 'is it on screen' trumps 'is it any good' for a lot of properties, but OPM specifically is a manga that comes out in a hit-and-miss fashion and still has a large and loyal audience. They're not as availability sensitive. Not checking who actually buys into OPM and how those customers might differ from their other properties is like selling Motorola phones to Apple customers on the basis that they’re both smartphones.
To make it worse, we come to another core business principle: stakeholder management.
It's no secret that JC Staff didn't have as good a working relationship with ONE and Murata as Madhouse did. It really shows in the OAVs – it’s so clear that ONE had less and less to do with them as they proceeded. However, it also translates onto the main story as they weren't as concerned with 'getting' where the author was coming from. Which is a problem as OPM isn't a straightforward story to adapt. It doesn't just follow one or two characters, so there's a lot of thought to go into what to emphasise and why. Who best to ask but the author? Natsume had a great working relationship with ONE, which combined with his great relationships with other people across the industry, led to a stunningly good season.
If Bandai greenlights season 3, they're going to have to find a studio and a crew who need to build a good relationship with ONE, which is all that time, time, time they didn't want to waste, but have wasted nonetheless. You do business with people at the end of the day. Or they could just go crawling back to Natsume and see when he has time. Or Studio Bones, who also work very well with ONE. Wherever they go, it’s going to take longer than they ever hoped for initially.
Here's the evillest kicker of them all. If I remember correctly, OPM season 2 was originally coming out next April, right? That's why they decided they couldn't wait that long and took the property away from Madhouse. But the next reasonable place for season 3 to stop is going to be out in print at the time that season 2 was going to run. If they'd not been so impatient, there'd have been one long wait and then we'd never be more than 18 months away from a new OPM season. As in not every year would see a new OPM season, but every season would be worthwhile with a good director who has a great relationship with the author and a consistent studio delivering that money-making delight.
Now, they're going to have to start afresh whenever it is that they make enough money to consider making another season. So there's two long-ass waits rather than just one.
Bad business for Bandai, a shame for us viewers.
That's business for you.
1. Check your business model assumptions.
2. Understand your brand.
3. Understand your customers.
4. You do business with people.
So, anyway, season 3. If they rush again and put out something that looks like a minimum viable product (if you like, ask and I’ll break down what that means for season 3’s story specifically) into a market that's made it very clear that it expects a premium product, they will never make another OPM season. They'll lose too much money.
I may stan characters, but I do more than just that.

For the princess asks,,, all of them
!!! You!!! Are The! Best!!!
*rubs hands together enthusiastically* Let’s Go!!!
Belle: Why is your favourite book your favourite?
What a big one to start with! My favourite book is my favourite because it feels like a fire inside my heart. It reminds me how every person is living their lives in a deeply complex world, just like mine. It reminds me what a responsibility we have to support and understand each other. It inspires me and makes me hopeful that if we support each other individually, a better future is possible no matter how many times the big things go wrong. (My favourite book is Les Miserables, by Victor Hugo)
Ariel: Favourite mythical creature?
I usually say ‘gods and goddesses’ to this question, because it’s so cool to see how humans create humanoid representations of power and ideals? To what extent are they human, to what extent are they inhuman or more-than-human, and how do those things intersect? Myths are just so COOL!
Tiana: What’s your dream job?
Oh, my dream job would be to establish an alternative school system that emphasizes independent and different kinds of learning!
Snow White: Name the oldest book or film you like.
Book? Uhhh, I read a lot of old books. The oldest?? The Canterbury Tales is pretty good, I loved the first half of Beowulf, the Bible has some pretty interesting stories, Ovid told some really good myths... My oldest favourite book is probably The Canterbury Tales. I’m not super into medieval-era stuff, but Chaucer really makes me cackle. (As far as old films go, I’m a Charlie Chaplin fanatic.)
Cinderella: What’s the most unusual item of clothing or accessory you own?
I own a couple medieval-style tunics and corsets from an incredible shop in Quebec City. I also regularly wear devil horns with punk outfits. I have a pair of pointy anime sunglasses for Reasons. I used to have a pair of armbands with custom knife-sheaths inside them. I really like unusual accessories!
Aurora: Describe your favourite colour without using its name.
It’s a void. It’s absolute simplicity. It allows your eyes to rest, to take a break from all the loudness of the world. It’s welcoming, and embracing, and it’s an empty space into which you can project entire worlds. It allows every other colour to look better when placed against it. It’s original, and beautiful, and perfect.
Merida: What is your favourite hobby?
Oh, writing for sure! I love stories that other people tell, and I love being able to tell stories. It all feels so magical, creating and manipulating worlds.
Pocahontas: Do you enjoy learning about history?
Uhhh, I enjoy hearing and telling stories about history! When they’re personal I can really connect to them, when they’re clearly from someone’s perspective. History that pretends to be subjective is both threatening and boring to me. Also, history makes me sad a lot so I like to learn about it in small doses!
Jasmine: If you could wish for one thing, what would it be?
Hhhhhhh god I don’t know. A functional government system. A functional economics system. World peace, on an international and interpersonal level. Less ants in my kitchen.
Elsa: Summer or Winter?
Spring is my favourite season, but I’d choose summer if I had to go with extremes! I’m very much a ‘prefer to be too hot’ kind of person.
Kida: Are you adventurous?
To an extent! My brain rather over-reacts to certain stimulus (such as sleep deprivation, insect noises, crowds, and unfamiliar food), so that does limit my adventuring quite a bit, unfortunately! That said, I do love to explore new places, to seek out secrets in the woods, and to boldly go where no one has gone before! I just need long periods of recharge time in my comfort zone before I’m ready for another adventure!
Giselle: What fictional world would you love to live in?
If I could choose an adventure to have, I would love to travel with The Doctor. I’d also be very pleased to live in the Sandman universe, from the comics.
Megara: Is there anything you’d sell your soul for?
Same as my answer to Jasmine. Minus the ants in the kitchen, I don’t think that’s quite worth my soul.
Vanellope: What is your favourite type of candy?
Chocolate! I love mint chocolate, chocolate with peanut-butter, 70% chocolate, 90% chocolate, chocolate truffles, chocolate mousse, chocolate icing, chocolate-covered strawberries.... just EVERYTHING CHOCOLATE!
Moana: Do you enjoy the journey or the destination more?
Depends on the journey! Car rides are awesome, and planes are pretty cool. But buses are intolerable unless I have very good headphones. And walks are nice, but sometimes you get dizzy. So... yeah! Depends on how you’re getting there, but I do like travelling as a general rule.
Esmerelda: What’s your favourite part of your appearance?
My dad always said I have ‘Victorian heroine eyes’ and I’m quite fond of that idea! I have grey eyes with a bit of a blue tinge, and a fleck of yellow in one eye.
Eilonwy: Name an underappreciated film that you love.
I don’t really have a very non-mainstream taste in films! I tend towards action and classics, and even the ‘unusual’ films I like are still the big ones, like Wes Anderson films or cult classics. I guess I’ll just reveal that my favourite romcom is ‘The Holiday’ and I watch it every year. It might be cheesy and pretty bad, but it sure as heck makes me happy every time I see it.
(some previous answers/ reblog the questions!)
Whoo this took like forty minutes to type out! Thank you for such a pleasant break from my schoolwork! Back to it!

I honestly can't post more random shit on twitter so here's where I'll store my garbage brain reading magi comic
- I SHIP TOTO AND MORGIANA how dare you sink my ship with only like 2 chapters
- finally reached them plot beyond anime adaptation and first thing we learn, someone need to water spray Alibaba's horny ass
- Yunan and Sinbad bicker back and forth...? Must be exes (nod) also Yunan you fucking twink
- but he's an intellectual twink I approve
- kou empire being a commentary on ancient china (even china today) and it's ideology of unification by not accepting diversity but promoting a single culture language and customs that are it's own is not a critique of communism rather colonialism....thank you
- maybe it's too quick to judge but good grief I hate people like koumei the most :( being able to rationalize and institutionalize violation of human rights is a lot scarier than any crazy loony. And it honestly is some 1984 shit going on here
- oh.............................
- Ithnan is a gay baby
- so the story of alma toran, shares the same core idea of Jesus Christ Superstar (jokes aside the discussion of power and divinity is really fucking beautiful
- It is incredibly distracting however that in a magical world deeply rooted in Arabic culture, people have names like Solomon or Sheba or Ugo that the ultimate villain is just called, David. Like some guy from work
- final chapter of the arc looping back to aladdin wishing to be friend with ugo....It's fucking poetic, it's fucking beautiful. The whole alma toran story obviously isn't telling us that Solomon's will is just good, or that he did everything right. Just like he once did, aladdin is now questioning the world's principal and all acting from the base desire of happiness. I don't think my sleep deprived mind grasped or made sense of everything going on here but damn, this is good shit
- I read shonen to feel good about myself and the world because they get cool powers and unconditional friends and most importantly through trial and error they actually win. But damn is it suffocating to read magi (but in a good way), nihilism, existentialism, philosophies I contemplate all day every day being presented in such a way is really, idk, making me sad, just like the real world
- Hakuryuu and Judar's fight against Arba is so fucking good..............and my god all these motherfuckers from Kou are scary. But I just want to hug these two sad boys, which is not saying that I think their thinking is rights or makes sense it's just...you can't blame them, and bitch I relate. Being unable to escape a loop of hate and anger for so long and so much that you internalized it to become something much worse.......and that makes you doubt even more about yourself and the people around you. Which is why therapy is important, at least for me lol.
- SERIOUSLY WHAT IS THIS FUCKING FIGHT????? WHY??????????? WHY ARE THEY DOING THIS TO EACH OTHER IT'S SO MISERABLE I CANT-
- Aladdin's expression.......INSTANT TEARS
- he's so pure I'm crying
- Sinbad you actual SON OF A BITCH
- SINBADDDD WHAT THE FUCK YOU ARE WHO?????? And putting Sinbad' adventures in his younger days into perspective it's just fucking tragic, if you have to be a piece of shit fine but what about the good people and their good intentions..............
- FUCK I knew one of them is going to die out of the fucking blue and I know I said I hated koumei but, FUCK
- jfc it's so............miserable....................
- human justice change, and as long as we are able to question it, the world would be a better place, and we are able to move forward, to have meaning. I want to hug Hakuryuu until he can't breath.
- oh no kougyoku.......come here that's right Sinbad is a piece of shit
- wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait WHAT
- she..!!! he......!!!!!!! Can she do it to literally anyone furthermore does, does like Ja'far know about......him???!?!????!?!!!????
- damn the opening chapter of the final arc is so beautifully done it's fucking art.
- To think that I was so obsessed with Yunan when I was like 13 first watching Magi anime...he's actually just a sad twink
- they got cars???? They got phones????? They got fucking planes??????? I've only ever seen fantasy + technology as in steampunk but this shit, it's purely magical, and it makes sense holy shit
- the gags in Magi are one of the greatest I swear they are so random
- this is...genius, it's not a conflict of communism and capitalism but rather the culture rooted in Eastern and Western civilizations and the different difficulties they face stepping into this new world.......these two economic system aren't inherently eastern and western either, it's just, cultures, and the conflict created thus.
- and Alibaba are you our socialism icon??
- no wait wtf alibaba WHAT fucking plan is this that's not how, that's not how it works. To introduce a concept previously foreign to the population is not to domesticated it like that...? It suggests that....people can't change, culture can't change, Idk it's kinda worrying. But I do understand, as a temporary measure :/
- ALIBABA. YOU. GREAT. HUMAN. BEING.
- fuck capitalism and monopoly fuck you Sinbad
- this is the scariest shit I've ever seen good grief arba can you not
- I'm going to say it while I still can without being creepy since technically I'm still a teen? Aladdin how is he hot af now
- now that I think more about it Hakuryuu's redemption happens so naturally, it makes me so happy to see the struggle for truth and happiness is achieved through one's reflection, coming to terms with mistakes. Again this shit is fucking beautiful.
- Alibaba Keanu Reeves Saluja ("no, you're amazing"
- YUNANNNNNNNNN NOOOOOOOO
- I fucking love Yunan I just really like this character ever since the first time I watched magi for some strange reason and NOW NOOOOOOOO WHAT DID YOU DO TO MY BOY
- Hakuryuu could be in a infomercial about insects repellant by now things would be much easier if you know his arms could stop getting bit/stung by snake/scorpion
- "can I have an Apple now Mr driver" ALADDIN YOU BIG FLIRT I WILL DIE WITH THIS SHIP and damn his change is even more oblivious put next to Alibaba
- crybaby Hakuryuu.....they all changed but hasn't at the same time I'm crying
- is Hakuryuu me?????????? Crying all night after getting wasted
- two minutes after I said I'll die with the ship....the ship died, bye everybody
- just kidding Alibaba and Mor as so sweet it's just I really ship Aladdin and alibaba....I get more and more estranged feeling as I keep reading because it's not silly, feel-good adventures anymore, "少年漫" 里面的 "少年感" 被渐渐冲淡了因为真实世界比魔法对决宏大多了. I mean, it doesn't seem real that Alibaba and Mor are getting married, I still see them as hot headed companions that are teens going for their dreams against a whole unkind world, it just doesn't seem real. But not in remotely any bad way, it's me who hasn't grown up, I guess.
- that said you guys can really just start with, a relationship? Ya know???? "Lets become husband and wife" I can't take this it's too fast lmao
- NO STOP PUTTING ALADDIN AND KOUGYOKU TOGETHER I DONT LIKE IT (they are both lovely people I just don't like it#!!!!!!! They had zero chemistry#!!#!!#!!!!!!!! It's weird!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I refuse everyone's getting fucking married!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- stop.......being..........so.............full of yourself, sinbad
- what, the, fuck, is, going, on
- what
- the
- fuck
-Sinbad

3 11 13 (for video game asks)
yay yippee. I typed up much more than I anticipated, I enjoy thinking about my little games.
1-3 games you’ve played in the past 12 months that you really enjoyed
Resident Evil 4 Remake
A perfect translation of the original game, they got a 10/10 twice out of RE4.
It keeps the same structure of the original while updating the gameplay in a way that makes sense as both a more direct sequel to RE2Remake and as a reimagining of RE4. The game feels so fucking good to play, they updated the high-pressure combat by making it feel breakneck. Since the player has more mobility than they ever had in the original, the enemies have also become aggressive as hell, sometimes overbearing. I've never said "fuck offff" so much while playing a game (non-pejorative), and the village fight at the beginning was insane to experience for the first time again. Check it out, Leon is the hottest guy this summer.
Plate Up A fun "roguelike" kitchen management game where you run around, cook, serve miserable customers their food, and find more efficient ways to do it. Absolute blast with friends, but just as fun alone if you're like me and like cooking gay little meals. Since it has to do with optimizing a process, it tickles all the funny parts in my brain and makes me feel super involved. Even better in coop where you have more than one person saying "no, I think we should do the kitchen like this. It's got a fine progression system that keeps you hooked for the first few hours, with unlocking new foods to cook and new items to use on future playthroughs, but honestly the gameplay loop has me hooked like a bird on nectar. Check it out, it's got the hottest dish this summer.
Analogue: A Hate Story
A visual novel I picked up on a whim and felt focused enough to finish reading playing in one sitting. I haven't played many visual novels, but the way A Hate Story presented its story was great. You piece together a story of what happened in a space colony by reading diary entries of different people, and you unlock different "threads" of diaries as you read through them. You make assumptions about one character based on what someone writes about them, and then get a different angle when you read that character's diary entry. I don't want to get too into it since it's fun piecing together exactly what's going on, it's far from a typical "scifi space colony" story. Check it out, it's got the hottest AI this summer.
Many other games from the past year I enjoyed, 3 is too few to list. These are all just from the past month. Shouts out to Roadwarden, Dragon's Dogma, the entire Hitman series, Mini Metro, Mini Motorways, Project Zomboid, etc etc etc too manny games...
Do you prefer ‘blank slate’ main characters you make yourself or otherwise project onto, or characters with a set personality and backstory?
Either is fine with me, just depends on what I'm playing. The only games I ever "self insert" in are Animal Crossing an Pokemon, something about those games has me thinking "don't get it twisted, I am doing all this". Otherwise with games where you make your own character like Fallout or Dragon's Dogma, I make just make an OC and play with them like dolls. Characters with set personalities are also fun to play with dolls, I like twirling my hair when I play with Leon RE4. Even games where you play as a set character but still have dialogue choices are fun. Stuff like Disco Elysium, The Walking Dead, Deus Ex Human Revolution is all great because they manage to give you just enough character and let you steer them in a direction. The only game I can think of at the moment where I actively disliked its player/character set up is Cyberpunk 2077. It plays it kind of in the middle, where you totally create V's appearance and character build, but I was just not a fan of how they handled the actual character dialogue and motivation. Ideally, it is supposed to be an RPG where you build your own character, choose your backstory, and play through at your own pace. In contrast to that, you are also playing as V, who has their own set personality, tone, and motivations that can sometimes play against whatever you may have imagined for your own character. It just never clicked with me, either make them a silent protagonist with a wider variety of dialogue like Fallout New Vegas, or make V a set character who you play as.
Quick, name the first song from a game that comes to mind
Find Your One Way from da Guilty Gear Strive soundtrack. Not even my favorite song from the soundtrack but it was the first. Check out the entire soundtrack on Spotify dot come, it has the hottest sounds of the summer. Some of my favorites are Rock Parade Mirror of the World The Circle What do you fight for Crawl
