do you mean the hammer of justice? as far as i'm aware, it's established he's a different person than gerson. it's susie who assumes he was revived by the dark world, but then it's ralsei who clarifies that no, the old man isn't gerson brought back to life – he's a darkner modeled in his memory, someone who has his existence tied to that fountain as a result. he's the hammer, of course, but he's shaped not only by the fountain's own will but by the dust that bore gerson's last will too. that reveal, though, that's what makes susie snap. ralsei didn't tell her something important yet again. but the flavor text and menu never refers to the hammer of justice as gerson even before ralsei clarifies her assumption – it's clear that the hammer being a zombie isn't really the case. he's still his own person, still "the old man" even after that seeming reveal, even if they share a face.
