gender microlabels are really cool to me bc a lot of the time they're like, metaphors almost, for how someone experiences their gender. like constellunyx, which is a gender connected to the moon, stars, & the connection between the moon & stars. or mechuatic, which is a gender related to mechanical sharks or fish. or lunaboy and solgirl, which are a gender related to the moon + femininity while being a boy, & the sun + masculinity while being a girl, respectively. or genderfunky, which is when ur gender is funky and goofy, and has a really fun flag. like i genuinely think it's so cool!! i love it & i wish microlabels weren't so looked down on both within and outside of the queer community bc it rules!!!

ngl i do find rewrites of double exposure vastly intriguing ( and want to do one myself ) but the moment people make a huge point of removing amanda and vinh as love interests i immediately lose steam lol. where’s your whimsy … every lis game has romance and max is not some sort of nun character, who is known for putting her feelings aside for the sake of a case. after all, while the world as she knows it is ending, max writes this in her journal about warren and chloe :

like!! she would kiss amanda and vinh!! she would!! max is impulsive and feels things for the people she cares for very, very strongly and i feel like erasing her canon love interests in a genuine rewrite of the game is sort of a null point. no, max wouldn’t think through the logistics of kissing two people while investigating the murder of her best friend. no, max wouldn’t abstain from indulging herself in something she genuinely wants just because she’s sad or busy. idk. double exposure desperately needs a rewrite but the second you write max as someone who’s ‘above’ love affairs i shake my head in disagreement. there’s a difference between including love interests and then allowing the player to have max not romance anyone versus forcing her and the player to not romance anyone at all.

I just watched the first episode of the Librarians and this new nerdy mathematician/physicist woman Lysa is so Cassandra coded, I love her. If they don’t have her meet Cass I will SCREEEAAAM. They deserve to do pretty math/science together. And maybe. Be gay. As a treat?

I occasionally wish to reach out to old friends/acquaintances I haven't spoken to since high school/some other even earlier time in my life, but I have SOOO little social energy even for required tasks (like making dr phone calls or etc), I never have any leftover for extra ones, and it would be very odd to message someone I haven't spoken to in like 5 years out of the blue but then take 4 entire months to respond back lol.. My natural curiosity with nostalgia/collecting details of the past/etc. (literally if I were born a little earlier I would definitely do scrapbooking or something lol) is very strong, but, alas, not strong enough to beat out the Social Issues Demons apparently

#facebook always does that 'here's a post from this day 8 years ago' thing. and I see old comments interacting #with people and it's so like.. OOOOO~~ where are they now?? what's going on? how much have they changed as people?#how much are they the same? this is fascinating. i should contact them!!' but then it's like... take that to it's logical conclusion though #you would contact them and then IF they even responded it would take you 80 years to respond and then they would #think there was something wrong or that you were trying to be insulting or something. To contact anyone I need to include an 85 page #disclaimer of all of my social issues & mental illness things. 'If i take 3 weeks to reply I promise it has nothing to do with u' etc lol #THIS is why more people need to be into phone calls/voice calls/some form of audio real time communication/etc.#I think one of the main things that's hard about messaging through text for me is it's so unscheduled and open ended #(plus it takes forever if you're talking about anything in detail and gets very long very quickly)#because like you can send a message and then just get a reply whenever. and then you're expected to reply back whenever #so it's like you never know when the response will come or when a new obligation to reply can come up? so it's like this sudden thing with #no outline?? if that makes sense. whereas a phone call is very like 'hello let's schedule a call from 10am - 2pm on thursday'. And you know #EXACTLY when the interaction will start and EXACTLY when it will end and you can plan around it in your schedule easily.#I have the reverse thing of a lot of people (how people don't pick up phone calls/hate calls/only text)#I would literally talk on the phone with a stranger. I would have a discord voice chat with someone I barely know.#if someone I hardly even remember from elementary school asked to have a voice call with me out of nowhere I would do it.#but if a stranger MESSAGED me?? or someone I barely know sent me a TEXT or something?? I will never reply probably #It's just too vague and weird. and you can't read voice tone over text. and the interaction could last forever with no clear end #point and etc. etc. But a call is like. set. established. clear boundaries. you can read the flow of conversation better. rapport. etc. etc #I get that I guess people feel more anonymous or distanced over text?? but you can have fake phone numbers on the computer. or do like disc #rd calls. or zoom without a camera or etc. etc. Also the distance that's present in text is BAD distance because it just means that tone is #not conveyed properly and you will never truly get a sense of the person's conversational vibe or mannerisms or how well you really click.#ANYWAY ghgjh...... I'm so so so interested in concepts of like.. How did that one kid I used to talk to in elementary school #but then they moved away in 5th grade - how did they end up? what are they doing now?? etc. etc. Like despite the severe social anhedonia #and general lack of connection with others I'm just really fascinated in like.. idk. the human development of it all and like #the concept of how we're actually a million different people through the course of our lives ever evolving in different iterations and etc.#PLUS again. i love nostalgia. sometimes old peple you know might remember a shared memory or can tell you about something you forgot #or etc. like it's SUCH A COOL THING in CONCEPT but I am too socially inept generally speaking lol. which people I still talk to today are #familiar with my 'phone call once every few months' communication style. but strangers would just be like... wtf. And I don't blame them #Sure I literally cannot change the physical health + brain issues i have - but also I know enough to not put others through that lol

follows a young man whose brother was cursed and killed by an infamous outlaw 5 years ago, and he’s finally able to curse him back - but it rebounds, as he’s somehow fatebound to the outlaw

to find a cure and save them both they have to team up, and he quickly finds out that the resources the outlaw is stealing go to the thousands of people neglected on prison planets, and he has to go against what he thought was right to help them

no romance, aroace MC, focus on platonic relationships

#Lord of the Empty Isles #aroaessidhe 2024 reads #I enjoyed this quite a bit! But I think it could have gone a bit further in places.#It has some interesting concepts and a great cast of characters and yay no romance #I do have a lot of thoughts and little critiques...#it's p obvious where the plot is going and what's going to happen #There’s clearly a lot gone into developing this bond system but to be honest I still don’t entirely get it?#It seems to emphasise that the bonds just reflect connections between people rather than predetermine anything; but also the plot kind of #hinges on Remy and Idrian having a predetermined bond? There are a lot of explanations of intricacies but a lot of it didn’t sink in idk #It’s promoted as QP but to me it reads as a general platonic relationship. I generally expect a depiction of a QPR to have like..#some form of acknowledgement/depiction of the form of their relationship being a particular (undefinable?) kind #with some specific level of commitment? I’m being picky maybe they mean queerplatonic themes/vibes rather than saying it’s a qpr #specifically. the centred platonic relationship is good! it doesn't seem like a qpr to me; at most what could one day be that #also things are solved quite quickly and easily in the end - both the curse and the downfall of the bad guy.#I feared it would go down the route of blaming things on the person in charge rather than emphasising systemic issues which it kinda does….#It’s impossible to ignore right now just how deeply people are willing to believe dehumanising propaganda - and how 'telling the truth'#and exposing the person in power as bad doesn’t actually do anything so that happening here made me go…… oh okay. well.#there is room for a sequel that maybe will explore this tho. idk #complaints aside - I do recommend this! It was fun and pretty unique.#aroace books #no romance

general characterization dislike lol. i know people hate him for all sorts of reasons but hes just not the sort of character i tend to like

#hes very self centered in a way that doesnt really amuse me like odysseus does idk #especiaaally in his relationship with katniss #hes very posessive of her also #hes upset even at the idea of katniss being FRIENDS with peeta (see: when she proposes bringing him to escape)#hm theres also a thing i notice susanne does with both gale and peeta #with the moments they both realized they loved katniss #peeta says its when she sang as kids. he just loved her voice #but gale says that its when someone else tried to get her to kiss him and says 'i realized i minded'#its not about HER its about the idea that someone else could haver her #so he gives me bad vibes all around because of that #just in general hes very lacking in redeeming qualities to me #on my first read through i didnt have a very strong opinion #hes very much a non character in the first book and so i didnt really pay attention to the later stuff #in general i dont think his character gets as much attention as most others #his nicest moments are when he thinks katniss is something he can have and every other moment hes openly hostile and its like #eugh #shrug just assorted gale thoughts #sorry eheh i dont tend to dislike characters but when i do im kinda annoying abt it #ash answers #<- new asks tag!

Janeway being comfortable with distance from others #and heavily segmenting her personal vs private lives and Tuvok who is the most quintessential Vulcan also being the closest to her for the #longest time (They've been friends 20 years prior to the show's opening)#There's no component of their relationship which demands Tuvok be more Human which is something I /WISH/....we EXPLORED more....the #Janeway-Tuvok friendship....it's SO telling that other Main Vulcan-Human pairs are like the most delved into relationships on screen but #Tuvok & Janeway's relationship is paid lip service but never REALLY is any time devoted to it explicitly. I wonder why that IS.

man. whenever i see someone discussing it/talking about liking it i feel myself Wanting to like. respect? extreme horror as a genre. more than i do. and i think my problem boils down to like. some of the places these things go.. you need to be a damn good writer, and you kinda need to make it have a Point or a Reason at least somewhat. you gotta be able to suspend your disbelief. that doesn't go any different for any flavor of horror than any other type of nonfiction writing tbh and in my opinion is generally harder to pull off. what happens does, in context, need to at least kinda sorta make a little bit of sense in some way and not be happening Just Because. and because of the rarity and stigma of extreme horror its less likely to qualify well for either of the above and just ends up attracting people who want to write some Really out there shit and get upset when they get justified critique from readers (usually people who bought their book and Enjoy extreme horror!) and always want to couch it like they're being oppressed for Writing which is a super disingenuous way to put it

#crow.txt #like i dont even find the genre unsalvageable or unforgivable #i havent ever come across anything i think i could read myself. just the things ive heard people talk about have been genuinely nauseating #but with some stuff and especially with some authors theres a pattern and a point at which its. very.#ok we get it you genuinely just wrote this to be edgy and complain when people dont agree completely with all your choices #its a really fine line but making it too off the wall/ridiculous/gross is just. so. wild to me. happens frequently.#extreme horror fans dont even seem to like it!#i was looking into summaries of a book called woom bc its the first thing thats hoved into my field of view in a while #and increasingly the more i found out abt im just sitting here like. ok why. what. this is like looney tunes if it was violent and gross #on purpose #the idea of these things happening individually is crazy. together its just kinda dumb and gross #seeing even one person say they felt like. connected to the characters is so wild to me bc it does not appear theres much. like. substance #+ feeling connected but not enough to want to read the sequel to see what happens is pretty telling lmao #you cant have extreme horror with No edgy shit but like. idk. its kinda clear when something has a Point and when something is shock value #hyperspecific genre doesnt make things more appealing to read or. like. easier to work into a plot if you don't have that skill #there almost seems to be an aspect of 'haha i tricked you into reading This gross shit' that is so hard to vibe with.#but mainly one author comes to mind #very difficult genre in general for many reasons but especially worse if you don't even have the backbone and self awareness to like #acknowledge it isn't for most people and like. act accordingly. ie when someone bitching about it online in public Just Shut Up #good advice for anyone that writes but like goddamn. authors here seem extra touchy sometimes. which feels weird bc you know what you wrote #like for reference ive read borrasca and think it was a really really good and grounded story. fucked up! extremely! it is ROUGH #and hard to recommend. for quite a few reasons. but like. i like to think i know what I'm talking abt at least a little #i wouldn't even consider it extreme horror but id argue it absolutely has elements. kinda a lot of em. especially if you count the followup #it takes a little too long to Get There and doesn't like. Sit In It. too heavily. the bad part is done pretty tastefully for what it is imo #and that is truly only because a very deep level of thought went into like. every aspect of it #you can tell when something has been carefully considered and crafted vs building the plane under them as it flew
