For @118dailydrabble, word 61: Stuck
TW: potentially fatal injury, mentions of blood
"Hang in there, Tommy," Eddie says, working his way through the rubble Tommy is stuck in together with Chimney and Hen.
"Haha, good one," Tommy mutters, head lolling to the side.
"Eddie," he adds, brows furrowing. "I think ... my legs are broken."
"It's alright. We -" Eddie freezes, his breath hitching.
"Jesus." Chimney's eyes widen.
Tommy's turnouts are dark from blood steadily seeping out from where a piece of metal pierces through his abdomen.
"Think my legs are broken," Tommy wheezes. "Sorry."
Don't panic, Eddie tells himself, taking a steadying breath. Stay focused.
"Ev," Tommy whispers.
Right.
"Call Buck," Eddie tells Hen.
She nods, knowing as well as Eddie that Tommy might not make it out of this alive.

The Return
(Follow up to the The Dream)
Pairing: Steve Rogers x reader x Bucky Barnes (a hint of Stucky x reader)
Summary: Will 513 find her way home?
Warnings: Mentions of readers death / being missing in action in another multiverse, multiverse travel (if that's a warning???)
Follow up to The Dream. As request by @obsessedlilqueen
Reader in this insert is 513 Y/N.
"So your answer was to go to another universe and take their Y/N? And what? Destroy their lives instead?" Steve yelled.
"Look, we were looking at all options. You heard Strange. She's meant to be here. Yes, we looked at taking somewhere else's Y/N, and yes, we may have poked around and 616 may have found out. But she said they weren't together. You heard that right?" Tony replied.
"But that doesn't mean we should just take her, she's not our Y/N."
Tony went to answer again but was cut off by Bucky.
"She loved them though."
"But they weren't together." Tony pointed out again.
"But she loved them. She had that look in her eye. The look our Y/N got when she thought we didn't love her back, that we wouldn't want something with her."
Natasha who'd been silently observing confirmed Bucky's thoughts.
"I remember that look. I'd tried to convince her you felt the same, tell her to get her head out her ass. You'd all be making eyes at each other. You'd look at her like she'd hung the moon and still she'd doubt herself."
Bucky and Steve nodded.
"We didn't get long enough." Bucky muttered, looking down at his feet.
"So, we keep looking." Steve said, voice full of authority.
"Make sure you keep using that Captain voice Rogers, you know how she loves it." Nat replied playfully.
Steve shook his head, the slightest hint of a smile on his lips. You really did like his Captain voice. He went to respond but was cut off by Sam and Clint entering the meeting room with purpose.
"You got something?" Steve asked. Clint and Sam exchanged a look.
"Not us. Coulson's team. Ecuador. Old Nazi base." Clint tapped the Stark pad in his hand and projections showed round the room. It showed a mix of images. Labs, cells, rooms set up with medical equipment and a metal chair that looked all to familiar to Bucky.
"So Hydra then." Tony stated.
"Nope, good old fashioned Nazi's." Clint replied, tapping at the screen to show the old uniform and flags scattered around. "There's also very little in the shape of electricity and tech, they were running on the bare minimum."
"And anything that was there, that had any sort of energy is crumpled. All the hostiles are knocked out too." Sam added.
"What's this on the walls? Scorch marks?" Tony asked.
"According to Fitz and Simmons the heat is matchable to a volcano." Clint confirmed.
"Y/N can't do that." Tony pointed out.
"Johnny Storm can." Natasha replied. Steve's head snapped in Natasha's direction.
"Call them." He ordered. Natasha pulled her phone from her pocket and moved into the corridor. She entered one of the nearby rooms and asked FRIDAY to sound proof it.
"Anything else?" Steve asked.
"There's another base, like for like pretty much, in Paraguay. It's showing heat and energy flares. Coulson's team are on route, so are Danvers and Thor."
Steve and Bucky locked eyes.
"It's her Steve. I know it is."
"Sam, Clint. I want you going through these images looking for any sign, anything that she could have left us to find to let us know she was there." Steve ordered. "FRIDAY, get Vision down here and on this too."
Natasha came back into the room.
"What'd they say?" Steve asked.
"You're not going to like it." She replied. "Johnny's been gone for two weeks."
"WHAT?" "They didn't think to tell us." "That's bullshit man." Came from found the room.
"They only realised today."
"How is that possible?" Steve asked.
"Him and Sue got into another fight. He stormed out. He's been seeing an ex-SHIELD Agent. He said he was going to stay with her."
"Who's the Agent?" Tony asked.
"This is the part you won't like."
"Go on." Steve urged.
"The agent formerly known as Agent 13."
"So baby girl was right to be suspicious of her then." Sam added.
"Natasha." Steve said firmly.
"I've already put the call out."
"Whatever price you put on her head, double it." Tony said, an edge to his voice. Natasha nodded, telling him a certain merc with a mouth was already on the hunt and offering do it for free.
"Clint do we have an exact location?"
"It just came in." He confirmed and a map appeared, showing a flashing marker on the edge of the Chaco forest. Bucky turned to leave but was stopped as Vision and Wanda came in, partially blocking the doorway as Happy followed behind them with a parcel trolley, boxes pilled up. He huffed and pushed passed them, Steve trailing behind.
They all knew they'd probably be heading straight to the jet and they knew by now there was no point in asking them to wait. They'd follow once they'd ran through everything, checking again as they made there way to the location.
Happy took a quick look around the room, seeing the team deep in work and hoping it was something to do with you.
"Sorry to interrupt boss, but where do you guys want these ten thousand tea bags?" He asked Tony.
"I haven't ordered any...." He voice trailed off. "Wait, what did you say?"
"There's ten thousand tea bags. There's also a crate of biscuits. Chocolate too, Cadbury's I think. Shall I put them upstairs or over the drinks stations too."
"WHO ORDERED THESE???!!!" Tony yelled.
"It's on your credit card boss." Happy replied, looking at the delivery paperwork. The team fell silent and looked around at each other. There was only one person that would order tea in such large amount and would have the balls to use Tony' credit card.
A click out in the corridor had them looking around Happy towards the sound. Vision stepped around him, eyes drawn to the drinks station. Amongst the fancy coffee machine, various types of snacks and a fridge full of different milks, sat a cheap looking electric kettle. Tony hated it. It didn't match anything and looked out of place, he'd told you. You'd told him the water from the coffee machine wasn't right and plugged it anyway. A year on and he couldn't move it. Vision turned towards the team and smiled.
"Someone appears to have put the kettle on."
______________________________________________________________
"I don't care if she's Peggy's niece Steven, if she's hurt our girl. She's dead. It'll be the soldier she meets, not me."
Steve wasn't going to disagree, but part of him wanted to know why Sharon had done this. How was she involved? Was this about him? You? Her pardon taking longer than theirs? He couldn't be sure. Would she really damage Peggy's legacy like this? Or was that the issue? Would she always be in her shadow? Steve followed Bucky onto the jet and started to change into his gear, Bucky barking orders at the AI to get them in the air as soon as possible. Steve turned towards the front of the jet as he pulled on the top of his stealth suit, wanting to check FRIDAY had the correct location. Bucky continued to ready himself, strapping on weapons and muttering under his breath. It was then as Steve listened to his mutterings and checking the screens of the jet, that he saw something flash by the corner of his eye. Something bright, flying and moving at speed.
He looked to where it had travelled to but was blocked by the positioning of another quinjet. Then it flashed by again. Steve is sure the figure salutes him as it goes by. Johnny Storm.
Steve turned and is met with Bucky's wide eyes. No words are exchanged as they both turn and rush off the jet. They ignore the clatter of the compound doors and the team rushing out, shouting something about tea and biscuits. They rush around the line of quinjets and out to the grassy field that ran alongside the compound. Now overgrown because Steve couldn't stand the sound of the mower, his mind busy with thoughts of you, it hadn't been cut in months. It blew in the breeze, swaying as though it was the sea. The sun was shining so bright that they both had to squint their eyes, as they came out of the shadow of the building. Steve positioned his arm to block the sun, as Bucky mimicked his actions at his side. They scanned the field and their eyes found the spot where Johnny looked to have stopped. The exact same spot 616 had disappeared from as she'd left.
Standing with her head tilted up to the sun, hair matted, stealth suit scorched and covered in dust, dirt, blood and grime stood their girl. They watched as she let out a shuddered breath as her hand skimmed through the grass.
Bucky gasped.
"My god." Steve whispered.
Your eyes snapped to theirs, and then you were moving towards them, a limp in your run and a sob in your throat. They sprinted towards you. It took seconds from them to reach you but to Steve and Bucky it felt like you were moving in slow motion.
Reaching each other, you fell into their arms. Sobs of relief, questions of where you had been and what had happened filled the air.
You were home. Reunited and back where you needed to be.
Enjoy this fic? Fancy a cuppa? My Ko-Fi.

For the character asks, Lance Hunter
Thanks for the ask! 💙
First impression: Loved him. I think I found him a little bit annoying, but in a good way, of course.
Impression now: I somehow love him even more. I still can't believe the writers just wrote him and Bobbi out because they were such great characters. He deserved to stay even just for comedic relief, because God knows the team needed a laugh sometimes, and so did we.
Favorite moment: When he shows up in prison to "talk to his client" in season 5. That was so iconic because not only was it a great entrance, but also such a relief to see a familiar face in that situation, especially if said familiar face has a hilarious dynamic with Fitz. That was obviously written for the fans, so I have no complaints. Honourable mentions to when he punches the guy from the ATCU without so much as a second thought, when he rants about Bobbi in 2.04 pretending he's not in love with her, and when he goes undercover as an obnoxious IT guy.
Idea for a story: This is not my idea, but I need to know what happened when he and Bobbi almost got married again between seasons 3 and 5. What do you mean "the ninjas showed up"? This had so much potential, but I think the fact that he never explained makes it funnier. Is it a weird metaphor for something? Did some ninjas actually attack them right before the wedding? Are the ninjas some friends who didn't think they should get married? We'll never know.
Unpopular opinion: I've seen somewhere that Most Wanted was a bad idea from the start, and I'm here to tell you that's wrong. I think it's a tragedy that it got cancelled, because can you imagine the potential? A spinoff of the best show on Earth? Our favourite problematic spy couple on the run breaking the law and causing problems? How is that a bad idea. Even if the script was bad and the plot was bad and everything was bad, it's still extra screentime for two awesome characters. If nothing else, we all know he would have had hilarious one liners, and I would have loved to watch it.
Favorite relationship: Huntingbird. Yes, I know he and Bobbi had a LOT of issues, but that just makes it funnier. Their bickering was on point, and the way he so was so obviously down bad for her the minute the words "demonic hell beast" left his mouth is so pathetic and hilarious. On a more serious note, the way they worked together as agents was great. While they may not have always trusted each other, they always had faith in the other's capabilities to do a good job in the field and stay alive ("Don't die our there"). They worried, sure, but they didn't try to keep the other out of danger Fitzsimmons style because they knew they could handle things, and for the most dysfunctional relationship of the show, that was pretty healthy. As for platonic relationship, Fitz. All they had in common was the fact that they were sassy Brits with serious relationship issues, and that was somehow enough to form a great dynamic. I loved all their little moments in 2.04, especially when Fitz talked about his crush on Jemma in the weirdest, most uncomfortable, and out of context way, and Hunter just went along with it and comforted him.
Favorite headcanon: At some point watching season 6 I decided it was stupid that they hadn't returned to SHIELD, so in my head they did. It just didn't make sense that they still had to live a life on the run when SHIELD was a legitimate organisation again, especially when the new director was their best friend who could have pulled some strings to have them there. It would have been so cool to see them again, not to mention it would have been very helpful for the team. And can you imagine Hunter's reaction at seeing Sarge? If anyone could have added some levity to the situation, I know it's him.
Writing this made me remember how much I love and miss him. Please send me more!

🍁🍁Comfy-vember🍁🍁
Day 12: Movie Night
Daisy Johnson & Everyone, Agents of SHIELD, Saving Grant Ward AU, pure fluff, Skyeward is there but not the point
------
It's Daisy's night to pick the movie, and because it's the first week of December, and she's feeling extra sentimental, and she knows it's Jemma's favourite, she calls Anastasia.
Bobbi and Mack bicker in the kitchen over how much butter the popcorn needs, while Grant and Coulson portion out the hot chocolate. Daisy snitches a cookie from the tin May had just pulled the lid off, and ducks the mock glare May sends after her as she scuttles for the movie room.
Oatmeal lemon, one of May's best, and Daisy savours it as she claims her spot on the couch.
On the loveseat Fitz and Hunter appear to be watching a soccer match on Hunter's phone, while Jemma sits on the floor between Fitz's legs, resting her head against his knee, and smiling a little as she stares up at the Christmas lights. Samson, Tex, Lincoln, and Lia are draped over the odd assortment of chairs they have collected, and are talking... hair and skin care routines? Huh. Daisy smiles to herself.
"Hey, babe."
Grant sinks down next to her, passes over the pawprint mug, and she smiles.
"With peppermint shavings, whipped cream, and almond?"
"Yes, though I don't know how you drink it with so many different flavours." He shakes his head, drapes an arm over her shoulders.
"The compliment each other," she insists, leaning into him.
"It's confusing," he says firmly, takes a sip of his own, which she knows is the OG Coulson family recipe, made with milk chocolate and a dash of cinnamon.
There is a brown milk mustache left on his upper lip, and Daisy giggles, wipes it off with a finger. "It's December, buster, you can shave again."
May comes next, sits on her other side, between her and the arm of the couch. "Want a cookie?" she asks, deadpan.
Daisy giggles, and then May grins back, a full, proper smile, and Daisy can't help it, she leans over, and quick as lightning kisses May's cheek.
There is no time for May to make startled faces, because Coulson is there, taking his seat beside Grant, and Mack tosses the TV remote at Daisy.
"Take it away, Tremors," he says.
The funny thing is, she used to hate this movie. She'd seen it at several foster homes, and even at the orphanage, as if it were a given that every parentless child should love it. Only in the last few years has she come to enjoy it, to enjoy Anya's spirit and bravery, to sing along with the songs like Jemma, to watch the happy ending without feeling like she wants to throw up or destroy something.
"I was in Paris right before I found out Dad was still alive," Grant mutters.
Daisy glances over, sees Coulson's hand move to squeeze Grant's knee.
"I've been everywhere but Paris," Daisy says.
"Really." Grant tilts his head, gives her a calculating look. "Good to know."
A spark of curiosity and excitement stirs in Daisy's stomach, as she remembers Christmas coming. "Isn't Paris the romance capital of the world or something?" she whispers, and he smirks, before he leans down and kisses her.
"Oi!" Popcorn kernels pelt them, and Daisy hides her face in Grant's shoulder to escape the buttery splatters.
Jemma is hissing for them to be quiet, Fitz is snickering, and Bobbi is trying to scold her man. May flicks a finger at Daisy's feet, tucked up next to her thigh, and Daisy swallows her giggles. She does want everyone else to enjoy this movie too.
The grandmother giving up on searching for Anastasia brings a lump to Daisy's throat, and she tries not to sniff. She thinks of her parents, of the joy turned to horror, of the love shattered into fear. At least her father has something like a happy ending.
"Aw, come on, don't leave Pooka behind," Grant mutters, and Daisy has to smile. Dogs in movies make him soft; he always cries over The Incredible Journey.
There's a lull; everyone watching, eating, breathing, quiet and easy, and Daisy glances around, struck with the fragility of this, right here.
Bobbi and Hunter curled on the loveseat, hands bickering over a popcorn bowl. Fitzsimmons on the floor, eating cookies, and leaning on each other like they used to. Mack slouched in an armchair with his feet propped on Tex's hip, and Tex stretched out half-asleep on the floor. Samson and Lia singing along with 'Paris Holds the Key'. Lincoln looking relaxed for once, licking butter off his fingers.
Ward leans away to catch Coulson's whisper, and they smile at each other, shoulders pressed together. Something warm covers Daisy's feet, and she glances over to see May has moved the blanket in her lap, sharing it without Daisy even asking.
Daisy realises she is holding her breath, holding time, holding this moment, like a crystal figurine balanced on a fingertip. Because it could shatter as easily as exhaling.
Their world is in constant turmoil. There could be a report of another Inhuman, or HYDRA or an explosion or people vanishing to other planets. Any day they could be shot or blown up or turned to stone.
Nights like these are things they have to fight for, to choose deliberately. And sometimes that's exhausting.
She bites back tears, even as she's forced to release her breath; a hard enough sigh that Grant slips his hand into hers, squeezes lightly.
I don't want this to end.
But the funny thing is... it doesn't. Not then, anyway. She breathes, and they eat popcorn and cookies, and Jemma has colour in her face again, and Lia passes Lincoln the cookies, and May stays exactly where she is, and Samson finishes the song with a flourish.
She breathes, and nothing shatters, nothing breaks, and she can feel herself mending, hairline fractures in her chest closing, as she lets herself come back into the moment.
"You okay?" Grant whispers.
She nods, lays her head on his shoulder.
This, right here, is the family she asked for, this is the place where she belongs. She mustn't be afraid of that.
On-screen Anastasia trembles as she waits for Dimitri to announce her to the Empress, and Daisy smiles. She knows how it ends, after all. Happy endings don't come easy, but in the movies at least, they do come. Maybe sometimes they do that in real-life too.
#this is somewhere in the first half of season 3#so 2015?#aos timeline is useless after the fall of shield which can be aligned with the movie#they don't even have anyone celebrating any holidays to give timing markers!#whatever#would you believe this took me a week to write?#watched anastasia multiple times for this#daisy johnson#other aos characters#also some ocs#agents of shield#my writing#comfy vember 2024

IDK who to tag so I shall tag @amethystgoldenwind
Thank you @alien--cookie for tagging me! It took me sooooo long to respond lollll but that was because there were so many questions and I immediately got super overwhelmed 🤣 BUT HERE I AM!!! And it’s funny because some of your answers matched mine and I was like omg twinninggggg 😝
What's the origin of your blog title?
My childhood nickname was/is Lavender Twilight! That came about when me and my cousin/best friend would play outdoor roleplaying games and we didn’t want to be named ourselves when we played as characters, so we made up our own names and mine was originally Ruby Scarletsun, but after a few years, I changed it to Lavender Twilight, and that has been my nickname ever since! And 23 is a number that I just have taken and put in a lot of username stuff over the years :P
OTP(s) + Shipname:
CHERIK! CHERIK CHERIK CHERIK CHERIK (CharlesxErik, X-Men)
And Fitzsimmons (Fitz and Simmons, Agents of SHIELD) in the back of my mind, but I’m into X-Men right now 🤣
Favorite colour:
RAINBOW! Even as a kid, I could never pick, so I always said all of them, rainbow. Ironically, I am both ace and bi and found that out last christmas/fall soooooo 🤣🏳️🌈
Favorite game:
Game??? Liiiike what, video game? Board game?
Okay, uhhh, I like Taboo, Heads Up, Scattergories, and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Oh, and lots of old Mario games like Mario 64, Mario Kart Wii, and New Super Mario Bros Wii because NOSTALGIA
Song stuck in your head:
Two:
BYE BYE BYE
and
Chopin Waltz Op. 69 No. 2 🤣 (banger)
Hobbies:
Lots of things! Mainly writing, watching movies, hanging out with my friends, and slowly making my way through the multiple books I’m in the middle of 🤣
If you work, what's your profession?
I’m unemployed lolllll but I’m in college for film and I want to get an on-campus job when I’m off spring break, and then also find a job over the summer because college tuition is makin my bank account look real sad right about now 😅
Something you're good at:
I like to think I’m decent at writing! 😅
Something you're bad at:
Self-love, sometimes 🤣 When my anxiety gets in the way of shit, I’m immediately like ‘yeah anxiety, you’re right’ 😅
Something you love:
SO MANY THINGS!!!! Movies and writing mainly, I mean there’s a reason why I want to be a director/screenwriter! Most music (except rap and rock, sorry), and fun clothes!
Something you could talk about for hours off the cuff:
Why the How To Train Your Dragon live action remake is a horrible mistake that makes me want to flip a table. 😅
Oh, and why Charles and Erik from X-Men are completely in love and NOT platonic.
Something you hate:
Disloyalty and being ignored.
Something you collect:
I collect bookmarks! Not as much anymore, but I used to love going to libraries for the simple fact of getting a few free bookmarks!

Math stuff. As soon as numbers start getting involved, my brain just checks out, and I never remember anything.

A CHATTERBOX. Way too friendly for my own good, my parents were worried that I would get kidnapped because I would just talk to EVERYBODY.
Favorite subject at school?
English!
Least favorite subject:
MATH OH MY GOD
What's your best character trait?
Maybe my empathy and my ability to be compassionate toward people? I’m an empath so I can to some extent take on other people’s emotions, which sometimes can be really hard on me since sometimes I get emotionally overstimulated and then have breakdowns from feeling others’ emotions, but when I can manage it, it allows me to be a really good listener and give good advice or just sit with someone if they need it.
What's your worst character trait?
Probably my habit of being WAY too hard on myself 😅
If you could change any detail of your life right now, what would it be?
I would want to NOT be as hard on myself lol
If you could travel in time, who would you like to meet?
J.R.R. Tolkien, probably! I love love love Lord of the Rings! Although I’m more of a fan of the movies than the books for obvious reasons (aspiring filmmaker lol), I would still love to meet him! Fun fact, out of all the LOTR cast, Christopher Lee (Saruman) was the only member of the entire cast and crew to have actually met Tolkien!
Thanks again for the tag, and sorry it took me so long, haha! 😂

Chapter 6: I’M NICE TO MEET
“Another bust,” I say into my comms as Fitz, Johnson, Ward and I exit the base, leaving knocked out or restrained HYDRA agents for the local authorities to find.
“Copy that,” Fury replies.
“You know, this is like… we’re vigilantes, right? This isn’t legal anymore? We have no jurisdiction anywhere,” Fitz says.
“SHIELD did what SHIELD wanted,” I shrug. “Now it’s our turn.”
“That’s true, SHIELD never followed the rules, not even their own,” Daisy added.
“Excuse me, did you forget that you were on the line with the Director of SHIELD?” Fury defends.
I chuckle. “You mean former right? Because Fitz has a point, if we get caught we go to jail too.”
“Well, good thing we still have access to a quinjet,” Fury says as he lands right in front of us.
“Very smooth,” we climb in as the ramp comes down and take a seat. I sigh, “gone are the good ol’ days.”
“I never even got to experience them,” Daisy shrugs.
“They weren’t that great for us. She had it good, being Level 7,” Grant comments.
“You’re Level 6! I’m still Level 4!” Fitz exclaims, offended.
“The system collapsed when SHIELD fell, I can make you unofficially Level 10 if you’d like?” I offer as I go to the mini fridge to take out a… “who ate the mozzarella and prosciutto wrap?” I say, closing the door and looking at everyone disappointedly.
“Wasn’t me,” Daisy and Grant say.
My eyes shift to Fitz. “I’m sorry, did it have your name on it? Because it didn’t so…” I pick up an apple and throw it at him. “Ow ow ow what the hell!”
“Behave,” we hear May through the comms.
“Sorry, May,” we all say as we take out seats, buckling up to meet Fury.
He’s typing away at the computer when we enter his makeshift underground office. It’s still hard to get used to being based here and not some fancy DC high rise.
“We’ve stormed two bases and found nothing. The Avengers have cleared four and they haven’t found the sceptre either,” Daisy recounts.
“There has to be something we’re missing,” Fitz says.
“We have two computer geniuses, tactile and operations experts and we can’t find a magical space stick,” I say, frustrated but this mission isn’t the only thing on my mind. It’s been almost a year since Steve asked Sam and I for help and we still haven’t found anything solid. The HYDRA bases haven’t revealed anything helpful either.
“On a lighter note, HYDRA is six bases down! I see that as an absolute win,” Fitz smiles.
“I’d say you all take a break. I’ve not found anything as of yet so… go back to your lives for a little bit. I’ll send directives if I find anything,” Fury orders.
“You know… you’re not the boss of us anymore, right?” I raise a brow.
“You’re dismissed.”
I go home with the intention of getting some rest but there’s something grating at my mind. It seems too easy that we’ve taken down six bases in the span of a year after HYDRA had been hiding in the shadows for decades… I go to my laptop and map out where each base was found. Huh… They arrange in a line of six and when the order of discovery is taken into account it seems that each base gets farther and farther away from one country. Sokovia.
I pack a bag with disguises that I still kept around, a photostatic veil and more subtle weapons in the place of guns. Time to go into the belly of the beast.
I look at my phone and assume the identity of a scientist that I see is on her way into the base. Before she gets too close I knock her out with a an electric disc. I drag her unconscious body to a place with cover and scan her face with my phone, syncing it up with my photostatic veil. Once it uploads, I put it on my face which has now taken hers. I style my hair similar to hers and replace my clothes with hers. I tie her up but inject her with a sedative that should last long enough for me to gather intel. I go through her bag and read through her diary and tablet to see where she should and shouldn’t be, to prevent suspicion.
I sigh. “Ideme na to,” here we go, I practice my Sokovian.
I enter the base. Doctor Kovak seems to be reporting to sub-level 3 according to her diary. I follow the signs quietly but the staff here seem to be too busy with their own tasks to mind me.
“Doctor Kovak,” I turn to the source of the voice. Wolfgang von Strucker, of course. “How are the test subjects?” he asks.
“I’m checking on them now, Herr Strucker,” I respond. He nods and gestures for me to walk with him. He leads me to two rooms with one sided glass. HYDRA’s still experimenting on people… There’s a man in the cell to the left who looks healthy enough and a woman in the cell next to him, sat on her knees looking at blocks of wood. I raise a brow but take out Dr. Kovak’s tablet, tapping around to find something.
“Magnificent, aren’t they?”
I find a tab on SUBJECTS and tap it, leading me to 16 more tabs labelled FAILURES but two SUCCESSES. This brings me to the Maximoff twins, Pietro and Wanda. The doctor’s newest entry was from last night. “The male has increased metabolism and improved homeostasis,” I say. “His vitals look normal, for someone going through this,” I add as I look to the monitor on the wall of his side. “The female has exhibited abilities of telekinesis.” I stop myself from frowning… they’re human?
“Keep an eye on them. I want to know more. I want to know how they survived the powers of the sceptre while many others did not. What makes them special, doctor? We are running out of bases to feed the Avengers.” He walks away before I can acknowledge his orders.
So the sceptre is here and they were just trying to keep themselves out of our radar. My stomach sinks slightly in disappointment as there was the possibility that what HYDRA was hiding was Barnes… maybe he’s still free then. Hopefully.
I look at the twins files for more information on why they would volunteer for such experiments. Native Sokovians, orphaned at ten years old and only having each other since then. I look up and notice that Wanda is staring at me. Or, correction, she’s staring into my soul.
I need to find the sceptre but that can wait at the presence of two enhanced individuals that have chosen the opposing side.
I open Wanda’s cell. “Miss Maximoff,” I greet. “Good morning,” she doesn’t reply. “I just wanted to learn more about you.”
Her head tilts but she doesn’t say anything.
“What made you want to volunteer for this… program?” I ask.
“Why do you want to know?”
“I believe there is something special about you and your brother. We’ve of course taken biological samples but I like to take a more… holistic approach to find out more.”
She looks at me and I swear her eyes glow red.
“I just want to help.”
She blinks and her posture relaxes as if she believes me. “I lost everyone but my brother. There’s so much wrong with the world. We just want to change it.”
“That’s why you agreed to be experimented on?”
She nods. “My turn. What did you do to the real Dr. Kovak?”
I look up sharply. How could she possibly…? Wanda doesn’t seem to want to alert the other scientists and agents of my presence so I clear my throat and straighten up. “She’s safe. I just needed intel.”
Her brow raises. “On what?”
“Can’t ask me two questions in a row, Miss Maximoff.”
“I could just… read your mind.”
“You can do that?”
Her brow quirks as an answer. “Have you been withholding information from Strucker?”
“Yes.”
I hum at her honesty. “Good. You can’t trust him.”
“And I can trust you? A strange woman who is wearing someone else’s face and clothes,” she counters.
“Compared to anyone else here? Yes.”
She is about to say something but alarms sound. I leave the cell, closing the door with a last look at Wanda. I’ll get her out, I promise myself.
“What’s happening?” I ask, tucking the tablet away.
“We’re under attack.”
“Who?” Strucker asks.
“The Avengers.”
Shit. I sneak out and hear Strucker giving out orders. I find a server room and start downloading what intel I can about HYDRA’s plans and remaining strongholds for any clue on Sergeant Barnes’s locations and slip out. Rogers doesn’t need to know I was here with no back up.
The cold air greets me as I climb out of the base and start to discreetly make my way back to the town to catch a train to the next city to catch a flight back to DC
I feel someone behind me and I sharply turn, dodging their hold and kicking them in the knee by instinct. I stop when I see who it is. But he doesn’t as he goes in for a punch, I dodge and use his shield to propel myself backwards to get some distance between us.
“Steve! Don’t sneak up on a spy like that, you’re gonna get yourself killed.” I reach a hand down and he takes it as he gets back up on both feet.
He frowns under his helmet but there is no recognition in his eyes. I remember than the veil is still on my face so I peel it off and undo my hair.
“Y/N? What are you doing here?”
“Same as you,” I shrug.
“Did you come in with a team?” he asks concerned as he places his shield on his back. “Y/N where is your team? Did you not have back up?”
“I went in alone, okay?”
“Why would you do that?” Someone in his comms must have spoken because he turns away briefly. “I’m dealing with something but south west is clear.”
“It was just intel retrieval. Nothing big.”
“It’s you vs HYDRA, that’s not enough. Did you even have an extraction plan?”
“I was gonna take a train to Bucharest and then a plane back to DC.”
He gives me a what the fuck were you thinking look. “You ride back home with us. But for now… care to join us?”
I smirk. “How could I refuse?” We enter the compound to take down more HYDRA agents. As Steve kicks down an agent Strucker runs into us.
“Baron Strucker. Hydra’s number one thug,” Steve says, circling the man.
“Technically I’m a thug for SHIELD,” he retorts.
“Well then technically you’re unemployed. Where’s Loki’s sceptre?”
“Don’t worry, I know when I’m beat. You’ll mention how I cooperated, I hope,” he surrenders immediately. Suspiciously.
I frown and see the flowing red eyes in the shadows.
“I’ll put it right under illegal human experimentation. How many are there-”
“Cap!” I warn but it’s too late as Wanda hits him with a red surge of energy that knocks him down the stairs.
I’m ready in case Wanda comes for me but she doesn’t, just exiting the place and closing the door behind her.
“We have a second enhanced. Female. Do not engage,” Steve says into his comms as he runs back up the stairs.
“You’ll have to be faster than that–“ I hit Strucker with a disc and he convulses as he falls.
“I love those things,” I remark.
Steve chuckles then picks Strucker up. “Guys, I’ve got Strucker.”
“Want me to keep looking for the sceptre?” I offer.
He nods. “I’ll take Strucker, you find Tony. Nat and Bruce are still on the field but Thor and Clint are on the jet.” At my confused look it’s like he read my mind. “Clint got hurt. But he’ll pull through.” He turns into his comms. “Tony, Y/N’s coming to you.” Steve gives me his communicator and leaves with Strucker.
I go back to the level where the twins were to start looking for Stark.
“Mr. Stark this is Agent – well former agent Y/N L/N, are you able to give me your 20?”
“Well, I found the sceptre. Bringing it up with me now. I was at the south corridor and I found a secret doorway.” I follow where he says, remembering the map I saw on the tablet. “Nice to meet you, former agent.”
“I’m nice to meet, Mr. Stark.”
“I like you.” He taps something on his bracelet and his armour envelopes him.
“Is that it?”
“Yep. Pretty underwhelming, huh?” he seems out of breath… shaken.
“Are you alright, Stark?”
“I’m fine,” he responds all too quickly.
“Let’s get to the jet,” I follow the coordinates that Steve sent me on my phone and the Avengers are all there waiting.
Natasha smiles as she sees me. “What a surprise,” she says going in for a hug as Stark hands the sceptre to Thor and starts up the engine.
“Whatcha doin’ all the way out here?” Clint rasps.
“I could ask you the same thing old man,” I lightly joke, weary of his injury.
“Who you callin’ old? We got a thousand year old and a hundred year old on board.”
“Alright, ease up before you hurt yourself even more,” Natasha says as she gives him a sedative.
Once Clint was passed out and secure I take a seat with Nat next to me.
“So what are you doing here?” she asks.
“Same as you.”
Raising a brow she sighs. “Don’t tell me Fury’s still working you?”
“Of course he is. We have to take down the rest of HYDRA.”
“That’s our job, now.”
I roll my eyes. “Yeah, you’re doing great just invading countries that already hate you and wrecking historical sites. Top notch spy work.”
“Not a spy anymore, Y/N and neither are you,” she retorts.
Steve enters our conversation, standing tall with his arms crossed. “What do you mean?”
“See, you don’t even do your research before you go in. What happened to knowing your enemy?” I ask them both.
“Last I checked our enemies were people we thought were friends so I think we know them pretty well,” Steve replies.
“The two enhanced?” I counter. “What do you know about them?”
“What do you?” Stark asks.
I smirk. “So nothing?” I pull out the tablet that miraculously did not take any damage. I turn it on and find the file on the twins. “They’re called the Maximoff twins; Wanda and Pietro. They were orphaned at 10 years old when a shell hit their civilian apartment in the Novi Grad Bombings. Sokovia has been in the middle of a rebellion for years now. They don’t like you guys very much. Wanda has… special abilities. Neuroelectric interfacing, telekinesis, mental manipulation,” at confused faces I simplify. “She can move things with her mind and read yours. The latter, she has kept from Strucker.”
“So how do you know about it?” Stark asks.
“Because I spoke to her,” I shrug. “I know she can read minds because she knew I wasn’t the doctor I took the identity of.”
“You got in proximity with them?”
I nod.
“You know how dangerous that is, Y/N? You could have gotten killed, going in there like that, all alone. Did anyone else know where you were?” Steve demands.
“Okay, one, I wasn’t alone, I had my weapons.” He rolls his eyes. “Two, that’s classified.”
“There isn’t a SHIELD anymore, Y/N. Information isn’t classified.”
“Then I’m not telling.”
“Why not?” Nat asks.
“Because you’ll yell at me.”
Steve presses two fingers on the bridge of his nose and huffs, knowing the answer.
“What about the other one? Pietro?” Stark asks.
“He’s just really fast.”
We land on the helipad at Stark tower and Helen Cho and Hill take Clint to patch him up. Steve asks about Strucker and we get the news that NATO has him and it’s all in all mission accomplished.

MASTERLIST
< previous chapter
Word Count: 7,320ish (I know... yikes)
Summary: Y/N tries to help Simmons and Daisy save Fitz, Mack, May, Director Mace, and Coulson. (Sorry, I hope it’s not too confusing as you read it. It’s a lot...)
“Okay… So… Let me get this straight…” Y/N’s mind was trying to comprehend everything that Simmons and Daisy had just told her. “Dr. Radcliffe created a Life Model Decoy—“
“LMD for short,” Simmons added.
“Right. He created an LMD of his computerized assistant… just saying that takes me back to Ultron.” A shiver went down her spine. “Anyway, and she went crazy, building more LMD’s to replace the team. She put those she replaced in what is called the Framework, some sort of computerized alternate universe where consciousnesses can live… Am I getting this right so far?”
“Yes,” Daisy nodded.
“And Aida, the crazy LMD, has replaced May, Coulson, Mack, the new Director, and Fitz. And to stop them, you blew up the base and now need to go into the Framework yourselves and pull the team out. Correct?”
“Basically.”
Y/N sighed, running a hand down her face. She was still dressed up for her date, standing in front of Simmons and Daisy who were both injured, with Yo-Yo standing beside them.
“Okay, where do you need me then?” Y/N asked.
“If we’re in there too long, our bodies will… give out,” Daisy said.
“Well, that’s the hypothesis,” Simmons clarified.
“You’ve got to be kidding me, right?” Y/N exclaimed. “You guys want to go in there knowing your bodies might give out?!”
“We have to get our team back,” Daisy stated.
“I know but just… I’m going in.”
“No. You need to stay about here and—“
“And what? Watch over your bodies with Yo-Yo? No thanks. You’ll have a better shot with me in there.”
“Yes, but we need you out here,” Simmons said. “The Government won’t be far behind looking for us and you can help stall them.”
“You realize I’m a fugitive of the law, right?”
“Do you realize we found you with Tony?” Daisy retorted. “Isn’t he suppose to arrest you on site?”
Y/N clenched her jaw with a huff. “Fine. I’ll stay in the Zephyr. When do you need to go?”
“Now,” Simmons answered.
Y/N watched as Daisy and Simmons set up everything and connected themselves to the needed equipment.
“Meet at the rendezvous right away,” Daisy told Simmons and they both laid down. “That’s where I programmed the backdoor to get out.”
Y/N stood in between the two beds. “Listen, you two,” she said, trying to hide her worry. “Living in there too long may kill you, but dying in there will definitely kill you, so… just be careful.”
“Remember, Y/N and Yo-Yo,” Simmons started, “even if our vitals are going haywire, do not—“
“Do not pull you out or wake you up,” Yo-Yo finished. “We know. It will cook your brains like huevos rotos.”
“Cause permanent damage to the cerebral cortex, test.”
“Just promise me you’ll get our guys back, okay?”
“I promise.”
Y/N watched with bated breath as they hooked themselves up and seemingly feel asleep. Feeling around in both their minds, Y/N could tell they were in the Framework though. Now it was only a matter of time.
~~~
“They missed you,” Yo-You said.
Y/N had changed and the two of them had been sitting in silence, watching their two friends, for who knows how long.
“I’ve missed them, too,” she replied. “I… I really didn’t want to leave.”
“They knew that. And they felt terrible for what had happened when you woke. They had many arguments with Director Mace about it.”
“I didn’t like that guy.”
“He grew on me,” Yo-Yo shrugged. She leaned back in her chair. “Where have you been?”
“I can’t say,” Y/N shook her head.
“Understandable. They never stopped searching, you know?”
“I figured.”
“They actually caught sight of you once. In South Africa, I think.”
“They wouldn’t be the only ones. I was stupid for staying too long in one spot.” Y/N silently watched her unconscious friends for a moment. “I was going to say that I can’t imagine what’s going on in there, but I kinda can. Falling asleep, walking up in a new world. It’s how I got here.”
“Except they’re walking up to a demon world.”
“Truth,” Y/N chuckled. “Very true… Do we have any idea where the others might be kept at?”
“No.”
Y/N let herself comb over Yo-Yo’s thoughts briefly. “You and Mack, huh? That’s…”
“Interesting?”
“I was going to say exciting. The height difference must be a real challenge though.”
Yo-Yo laughed. “I don’t let it stop me.”
“Never thought you did.”
“And you and Stark?”
“It’s complicated. Especially now.”
“I can imagine.”
“Honestly, Yo-Yo, I don’t know if you can."
~~~
“Agent Rodriguez!” A woman came jogging up to Yo-Yo and Y/N, who were still watching over their friends. “Agent—“ She came to a halt. “Agent Rogers? I thought—well, you should be—“
“On the run. I know,” Y/N responded. “You are?”
“Agent Piper, ma’am.”
“And what seems to be the problem, Agent Piper?”
“We’re running out of power. Keeping them plugged in is draining the Zephyr faster than we thought.”
“Are we cloaked?”
“Yes, ma’am.”
Y/N took a deep breath, thinking over the options. “It’s going to be risky but I need you to uncloak the Zephyr.”
“What?” Yo-Yo questioned. “You can’t be serious? They’ll see us.”
“Just trust me and do it, Agent Piper.”
“Yes, ma’am,” Agent Piper responded, heading back to the controls.
“And please stop with the ma’am, it’s annoying.”
“Are you sure about this?” Yo-Yo asked her.
“No. But if anyone tries to take this bird down, I’ll take them down first.”
~~~
“Zephyr’s got 24 hours till it runs out of power,” Agent Davis, a man, informed.
“We can’t wait anymore,” Agent Piper chimed in. “We need to touch down and refuel.”
“Let’s not have this conversation again,” Yo-Yo said.
“Okay, we don’t know who we can trust at SHIELD and, the government, Talbot’s been trying to reach us. Maybe it’s time we talk to him.”
“Not an option,” Y/N said. “You’ve seen what they’re saying in the news. We’re lucky they haven’t shot us out of the sky. Not to mention that I’m on board and that if they turn off the Framework—“
“That thing’s draining all our power,” Agent Davis stated.
“Might be time we figure out a way to wake up Daisy and Simmons,” Piper suggested.
“Again, not an option,” Y/N argued.
“We must find something else to turn off,” Yo-Yo said.
“We already shut off all non-essential functions,” Davis stated. “Including the heat and the cloaking.”
“Why haven’t they shot us from the sky yet?” Piper wondered. “We haven’t been cloaked for almost a day.”
“Because I’m cloaking us,” Y/N stated.
“What?” / “How?” / “You can do that?”
“I’ve never released the amount of power I’m releasing for this long of a time, so I really don’t know how much longer I can hold it for.” Y/N turned to Daisy and Simmons, nibbling at her thumb nail. “They’re taking too long though… I think I need to go in after them.”
“No!” Yo-Yo exclaimed. “If you’re what’s keeping us safe, then we need you conscious.”
“It’s still only a matter of time before we have to land and I can’t hold it anymore. I can get in there and pull them out.”
“You don’t even know where the duplicate of you is.”
“What makes this world different, Yo-Yo? Why is it different than ours?”
“Simmons said something about taking a regret away.”
“So everyone has one regret taken away?” Yo-Yo nodded. “Then I have a pretty good guess where I’ll be.”
“You have no way of knowing if your powers will work.”
“If it’s basically a replica of our world, then I’m pretty sure they will. Besides, I’m not an inhuman, my powers are from sources much more powerful than some stupid computerized world. Now hook me up, we’re running out of time.”
~~~
Y/N gasped as she woke, immediately taking in her surroundings. She was in a casket, in the ground, inside of the Framework. She wasn’t surprised at all to find herself there, there was only two things she ever regretted. This regret Y/N had was one she always kept to herself, for reasons as to not hurt the ones she loved. She took a deep breath.
“Here goes nothing,” she whispered to herself.
She put her hands on the top of the casket and focused. The purple energy quickly glowed from her hands, blasting forward to free her from the ground. She crawled out of the hole, analyzing her surroundings. Arlington Cemetery in Virginia, just outside of Washington DC. Looking down, she realized she was in an old, warn out, military uniform. Out of the corner of her eye she saw the headstone. Turning to look at it she wasn’t shocked to see what it said:
Y/N Rogers
July 4th, 1918 to November 1945
A Hero Of World War 2
A Champion For Women
“Okay,” she whispered to herself as she stood up, brushing herself off, “If I were SHIELD, where would I be?”
Raking through her mind, it didn’t take long for her to come to a conclusion.
“The base.”
~~~
When Daisy woke up in the Framework, she was shocked to find out that here she was working for HYDRA, her powers weren’t active, she’s was still Skye, and that she was dating Grant Ward. HYDRA had taken over the world, SHIELD had fallen. Trying to find Simmons without the rest of HYDRA, she’s followed by Ward.
Simmons woke up in a mass grave of SHIELD agents, her Framework double having died in the fall of SHIELD. She eventually came across Coulson on her way to find Daisy. Here, Coulson’s a teacher teaching a HYDRA-approved curriculum that warns against the dangers of inhumans. Simmons tried to convince Coulson that he’s inside a virtual simulation, only to fail and have him call HYDRA on her.
When Daisy and Simmons finally met up, they tried to exit the Framework using a safeguard they created. They realized they were in over their heads in here and they needed back up. Unfortunately, Aida, the Director of HYDRA, blocked their way out. Ward then revealed himself to be a mole in HYDRA for the Resistance, out to protect Daisy since she’s inhuman.
On the run from a HYDRA attack, Simmons explains what happened with Coulson. This caused Daisy to go visit him, where he remembered her name. Ward took Simmons and Coulson to the Resistance, though he wasn’t so sure to believe the story Daisy and Simmons were telling. The Resistance is the remnants of SHIELD, led by inhuman Director Mace.
Daisy went back to HYDRA to find Radcliffe, hoping he could help them escape. But May, now a top HYDRA agent, gave her a new mission on the orders of Fitz, lead HYDRA scientist, and Aida, though she goes by Ophelia or Madame Hydra in the Framework. Daisy sent the information to Simmons on Radcliffe’s whereabouts before going with May to arrest Mack and his daughter Hope. May forced Mack to trick Daisy into confessing her true allegiance. Daisy gets placed in a cell and tortured. Mack, after him and his daughter are freed, joins the Resistance, having felt bad about what he did to Daisy.
Ward, Simmons, and Coulson find Radcliffe living in seclusion with Agnes Kitsworth, the woman he based Aida off of. Radcliffe explains that him and Agnes cannot leave the Framework since both of their real bodies have died. Fitz and Madame Hydra arrive. Radcliffe attempted to appeal to Fitz, though Fitz seemed to already know of the “other world” and believed that Radcliffe had enslaved Aida there. Fitz killed Agnes and takes Radcliffe as a prisoner, all while Ward, Simmons, and Coulson watch.
Ward, Mace, and Coulson then infiltrate a HYDRA “Enlightenment Camp” to free an undercover agent, Antione Triplett. They are tracked there by May, who uses a super serum to fight Mace. Coulson attempts to save one of his former students who he sees being held in the camp. Mace followed him into the building to help free all the other kids. HYDRA brings the building down with a missile. Entering the rubble to ensure Mace is dead, she finds him stopping debris from crushing a student, with Coulson and Tripp helping other children escape. May is horrified to find children being victimized by HYDRA. With the others having escaped to safety, Mace is crushed beneath the debris, dying in both worlds.
Through the vents of their holding cells, Daisy learns from Radcliffe about a backdoor he installed to escape that Aida is unable to disable. Turning on HYDRA, May sneaks a terrigen crystal into Daisy’s cell so she can gain her abilities within the Framework. The two women work together to escape HYDRA, with Daisy using her abilities to break Ophelia’s back.
Ophelia insists that Fitz, her lover, complete the work on their secret project, Looking Glass, after which her Framework body will no longer matter. Fitz then, with his very much alive father, becomes the head of HYDRA.
~~~
Y/N knew that it wouldn’t be smart to just appear in the base, so she showed up at a known SHIELD meeting spot. Appearing, she saw May and Daisy get out of an old car.
“I saw the building collapse on him,” May stated, getting out of the car. “I have the body-cam footage to prove it.”
“A building collapsed on who?” Y/N asked, worried.
Daisy spun around. “Y/N?” She questioned.
“You were taking too long.” The two women rushed into a hug.
“We tried to get back out to get your help, but Aida—“
“Stopped you. I got it.”
The three women pressed themselves up against a storage container.
“That’s not possible,” May whispered, staring at Y/N. “You’re Y/N Rogers. You died in World War 2, in the plane crash.”
“That, let me guess, my brother survived,” she responded.
They heard a security drone whirring near them and they pressed themselves up further against the storage container. May glanced around the corner to see the drone fly away.
“This is our window,” May stated.
The three then walked around the corner, Daisy leading the way. They were all on high alert, two of them now being considered terrorists. Daisy knocked on the red door of the building. A man quickly appeared, gun out.
“Get out of here,” he ordered.
“Hey! Hey,” Daisy exclaimed, hands up in surrender. “We are friends of the Resistance.”
“I know who you are. There’s chatter all over the police hand.” The man kept switching who his gun was pointed out.
“We weren’t followed. We were careful.” Then tires screeching were heard.
“Not careful enough,” May said.
Daisy and her quickly pulled out their guns. They took cover behind a trash can as those in the speeding car began shooting at them.
“Milkman, I have contact!” The man shouted into a walkie-talkie before getting shot down.
May and Daisy were firing back as Y/N pulled the man into the building.
“Come on!” She shouted. May followed.
“Incoming!” Daisy yelled, seeing a bomb thrown their way. She stood up and quaked it back into the car. She was shutting the door to the building as the car exploded.
“I’m going to be honest,” Y/N began, “I have not missed getting shot at.” Y/N began pushing large things in front of the door.
“He’s still breathing,” May said checking on the man. “But we’re gonna need to find another way to get out of here.”
“How long before HYDRA busts down the door?” Daisy asked.
“Not long. They’ll be following SOP for a hostile inhuman. Six teams to sweep the area. And if the hostile’s taken cover they’ll call in an air strike and sort through the rubble later.”
“Like what they did with the Patriot?”
“What I did. That air strike was on my order.”
“You didn’t know.”
“Doesn’t change what I did.”
“I’m sorry, who’s the Patriot?” Y/N asked.
“Director Mace,” Daisy answered.
“So, he’s…” Daisy nodded. “Oh, gosh.”
“May, you can’t blame yourself for their lies. Once you learned the truth, you fought back. That is what we need.”
“Daisy’s right. If more people see what you saw, they’ll probably start fighting back too.”
The three of you froze, hearing the HYDRA agents break down a door down the building. The three women hid, waiting for the agents to come to them. When they did, May jumped down on one from the ceiling, Daisy took one from the side, and Y/N appeared behind another, quickly knocking him out. The three HYDRA agents were quickly finished off.
“Three down,” Daisy whispered.
“Stop right there,” a HYDRA agent ordered, aiming at Daisy.
May and Daisy held their hands up, while Y/N’s hands slowly started glowing purple. Before any of them could do something, Mack showed up from the side, knocking the guy out with his guy.
“Mack?” Y/N and Daisy questioned. The three headed towards him only to freeze when he aimed his gun at May.
“Mack,” Daisy called.
“I’m here to help you,” Mack stated, “not the woman who held my daughter hostage.”
“May is the only reason I’m alive. She helped me escape. HYDRA messed with her head, but she’s fight back now.”
“How do you know she’s not lying?”
Coulson and a SHIELD agent ran in. Assessing the situation, Coulson stopped between May and Mack. Y/N was relieved to see her long time friend.
“Not a good time to be holding guns on our allies,” Coulson said.
“Alpha One, report in,” a HYDRA agent requested from outside. “What’s the situation down there?”
“We have to go, now.” Coulson slowly walked towards Mack. “Mack, I get it. These wounds don’t heal overnight. But for reasons I can’t fully explain, I trust this woman. And so should you.” Mack put the gun down.
“This place was originally build during the prohibition,” the SHIELD agent explained. “We have a secret tunnel out of here.”
“Lead the way,” Y/N said.
Mack grabbed the SHIELD agent from before and they all jogged towards the secret tunnel. Coulson moved so he was beside Y/N.
“Y/N? Right?” He questioned.
“You remember?” She asked.
“Little things. But you’re also known here. Not necessarily in a good light, but you are.”
“I’ve missed you, Phil.”
“Weirdly, I’ve missed you, too.”
“Y/N?” Daisy called. “Do you think you could just portal us there? It would be faster and safer.”
“And miss all this fun?” Y/N smirked. “You kidding?”
~~~
“Welcome to SHIELD,” Coulson said as the group walked into the base.
“So the secret base is the base,” Daisy said. “Probably should’ve guessed that.”
“I did,” Y/N said. “I just didn’t want to scare everyone.”
“Been looking for this place for years,” May said, looking around.
“I got to go find my little girl,” Mack stated, leaving.
“Thanks for your help,” Coulson said.
“Thank goodness you’re alright,” Ward said, coming towards them. “We’ve been combing the streets looking for you.” Y/N clenched her fists and they slowly began to glow purple.
“I can take care of myself,” Daisy responded.
“And you are?” Ward looked at you before noticing your hands. “And what are you doing?” He went to grab his gun but Daisy quickly stepped between the two of you.
“Woah, woah, woah.” She had her hands out. “Stop. Y/N,” she turned to her friend. “This is not the same Ward that shot you.”
“I shot you?” Ward repeated.
“Yeah,” Y/N responded. “I almost died.”
“That wasn’t me.”
“Y/N…” Daisy called. “Calm down.” Y/N looked at her friend and nodding, powering down. “Now, you want to explain the purple hands?”
“It’s complicated,” Y/N answered.
“How about we go take a look at that body-cam footage,” Coulson suggested. “Could really hep the cause.” May and Coulson left, leaving Ward, Daisy, and Y/N.
“Y/N and I are gonna go talk to Simmons,” Daisy said.
“She and, uh, Agent Triplett are on a recon mission,” Ward said, stopping them.
“Tripp?” Y/N repeated.
“Mm-hmm.”
“That’s the best news I’ve heard in weeks,” Daisy smiled.
“What’d you need to talk to her about?”
“It’s not exactly—“
“She told me about the other world.”
“Ah.” Daisy nodded. “Right.”
“Is that what you believe?”
“Yeah. And I need you to trust me. I know a way for us to get back home.”
“By ‘us’, you don’t mean me.” Y/N stepped back, feeling the tension. “I guess I was holding out hope that Simmons was wrong and that you’d still be… the girl I knew… I’m glad you’re safe, Daisy.” Ward walked away.
“Well that was…. Weird,” Y/N said. “Do you want to tell me—“
“Not really.”
“Okay.”
~~~
Y/N and Daisy walked in as Coulson, Ward, and May had just finished the body cam footage of Mace’s death.
“Getting this footage out isn’t enough to make up for what I did in HYDRA,” May spoke up. “But it’s a start.”
“Changing people’s hearts and minds is great,” Daisy said. “But I know a way to destroy HYDRA for good. Remember the place Simmons and I were trying to find? Radcliffe told me where to go, how to find it.”
“The way out of this?” Coulson asked.
“Yes. If we can get there, all of our problems go away. We just— we need all the help we can get.”
“I don’t know what you mean,” May stated. “THere’s no magic bullet against HYDRA.”
“Yeah,” Ward agreed. “This footage is a close as it comes. I mean, people will finally wake up.”
“No, you don’t understand,” Daisy said. “None of this will matter in the long run. It’s— it’s… Coulson, this is the only chance to actually wake people up.”
“Maybe the only way to solve our problem,” Coulson replied, “is to solve their problem.”
“What does that mean?”
“Getting to Radcliffe’s coordinates right now is next to impossible. We need a way to divide HYDRA’s forces.”
“To save ourselves, we need to save the world,” Y/N said. “Well, I’m in. But I guess none of us really have a choice, do we?”
~~~
Using both Y/N’s and Daisy’s powers, a small SHIELD team broke into HYDRA’s broadcasting center. All their people hand their hands held up. Bakshi was sitting at his news anchor desk. Coulson, May, Y/N, and Daisy walked up to it.
“Heard you were looking for some enemies of the state,” Coulson commented.
Y/N and Daisy looked at each other with small grins. Coulson would always be Coulson, even if he didn’t remember everything. With a nod from Coulson, Y/N controlled all the people to stay in their seats. Ward tied Bakshi to his chair.
“Stay quiet and we won’t have a problem,” Ward warned Bakshi.
“May and Coulson are getting everything set,” Daisy told Ward and Y/N.
“We’re good to go out here. No one’s putting up a fight.”
“That’s because I told them not to,” Y/N explained. Ward looked at her, confused. “I have a variety of abilities. Just don’t plan on crossing me.”
“Yes, but we will,” Bakshi said. “If you think you can force me, Sunil Bakshi, to go on air and slander HYDRA, then you’re delusional. I am the most trusted voice in journalism—“ Daisy quaked him back so that he hit the wall behind him. “Just, uh, put it in the teleprompter, then.” Bakshi was scared.
“We don’t need you to say a damn thing,” Daisy said. “The facts will speak for themselves.”
~~~
Y/N waited by herself for Coulson to finishing filming his speech. She longed to know the truth about what happened to Steve, Bucky, and Tony in this Framework. She was just too afraid. With a sigh, she looked to the side and saw a HYDR computer. Y/N contemplated for a moment before finally giving in and searching.

Anthony Edward Stark

Former CEO of Stark Industries. Son of Howard and Maria Stark. Died trying to stop the fall of SHIELD.
After reading everything, Y/N quickly turned off the screen. She wanted it get out of this hell whole faster now. This was not the place she longed to be. She met up with Ward, May, and Daisy, right before Coulson entered the room.
“Well,” he began with a breath, “that’s that.”
“Let’s get out of here,” May stated.
Coulson noticed that Ward’s gun was on the table and he knew that Ward was planning on staying. “The Patriot would’ve been proud of what we did today.”
Ward and Coulson nodded to each other before Coulson walked out of the room, with Y/N following. May and Daisy were close behind. Ward began the broadcast, playing it on every screen.
~~~
Daisy stood by Y/N’s side as they watched the news from the base. Everyone in the room had their eyes on the screen. Madame Hydra had sent crews to take back control of the broadcast center. Y/N huffed as she watched people getting beat up by HYDRA agents.
“She’s not subtle, that Madama Hydra,” Daisy commented.
“Yeah, just look at her uniform,” an agent said from beside them. “It’s so crazy hot.” They both gave the guy a look. “I-I mean, if you’re into the whole ‘bad girl’ vibe. Not—not me. I’m just… making an observation.”
Just then, Tripp and Simmons walked into the room.
“Tripp,” both Daisy and Y/N gasped.
“It’s so good to see you!” Daisy laughed, pulling the man in for a hug.
“Hey… person I don’t know,” he said, hugging her back.
“Right.” Daisy immediately let go. “Yeah, sorry. I-I heard about your mission. Awesome job.”
“Thanks.” Tripp looked at Y/N, studying her. “I… do I know you.”
“You might have seen pictures,” Y/N responded, thinking back to the conversation she had with the real Tripp. That seemed like so long ago. “Y/N Rogers.” She held her hand out to shake his. “I worked with your Grandfather, Gabe. He was a—“
“Howling Commando.” He shook her hand. “I’m sorry, but shouldn’t you be dead?”
“Long story.” Y/N pulled her hand away.
“Tripp,” Simmons got his attention. “Do you mind if Daisy, Y/N, and I have a quick word?”
“Sure,” he agreed. He looked at Daisy. “You can finishing hugging me later.” He chuckled before walking away.
Simmons grabbed grabbed an arm from each of the other women, pulling them to the side.
“Aida’s building a body for herself in the real world,” Simmons stated quietly. “A human body.”
“She wants free will,” Daisy said.
“Which would allow her to unplug the Framework… killing us all.”
“Okay,” Daisy sighed. “We can still stop her. Radcliffe gave me the coordinates to the Framework’s back door.”
“Will it work?”
“According to him, all we have to do is pass through the exit point, and then our minds will disconnect from the Framework.”
“So we just need to get everyone there.”
“Which own’t be easy,” Y/N said, “with May and Mack having no idea what’s really happening.”
“Well, and Fitz had HYDRA guards around him at all times.” Y/N and Daisy shared a look. “What?”
“Simmons, we can’t reduce Fitz right now,” Daisy said. “There’s no time.”
“We can’t just leave him behind. He’s part of our team.”
“And the current head of HYDRA,” Y/N reminded them.
“The Fitz in this world wants all of us dead,” Daisy added.
“Guys—“
“I know that it’s not his fault, but that is the reality that we are living in. If we don’t get Coulson, May, and Mack out of here, Aida will kill all of them.”
“I can try to get Fitz, if the time is right,” Y/N offered. “But I can’t promise anything.” She shook her head slightly. “What I can promise is that we will find a way to get Fitz out once everyone’s safe. Okay?”
“Okay,” Simmons agreed quietly.
Daisy left quickly, realizing Mack was leaving. Y/N stayed by Simmons.
“When did you even get here?” Simmons asked.
“When May and Daisy were escaping HYDRA,” Y/N answered. “The Zephyr is almost dead. You guys were taking too long, draining the power. I had to jump in to see if I could help.”
“Thank you.”
~~~
Y/N found herself mindlessly watching Mack interact with Hope. She didn't even notice that she had been staring too long until Mack met her gaze. She looked away, trying to compose herself.
“Hey,” he greeted, walking up to her.
“Hey,” she replied. “Sorry about staring. I just… you two are a good pair.”
“Yeah.” He smiled softly, looking at Hope. “Have any kids of your own?”
“I… I should have… He… there was a big fight and I lost him before he was even born.”
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean—“
“It’s no problem. Really.” She waved him off. “I’m… it’s still a little fresh.”
“Did you, uh, pick out a name?”
“Anthony James, or AJ for short.”
“That’s nice.”
“It is.” She nodded. She looked at Hope, thinking about how Mack will after to leave her soon. Even though she’s not real. “Just.. Mack, don’t wast any second. Every moment is precious.”
~~~
Y/N met up with Daisy and Tripp in the Director’s office. They were leaning over a map.
“Okay, so, Radcliffe’s coordinates should put it right about here,” Daisy stated, drawing a circle on the map. “DO you think you can fly us there?”
“No problem,” Tripp agreed.
“Great.”
“But what’s with this team of yours? A HYDRA agent, a school teacher, and a dad? Looks pretty bad news hears to me.”
“Trust us, I think they’re up to the task,” Y/N replied.
“Does this have anything to do with that other world Simmons was talking about?”
“She told you?” Daisy questioned.
“What can I say? I’m easy to confide in.”
“Okay. Yeah, you, May, Mack, and Coulson were all apart of our team in the other world.”
“So that’s why you were so happy to see me.” He smirked. “You and I,” he pointed between Daisy and himself, “we must’ve, uh, you know—
“Dated?”
“Sure. We’ll go with that.”
“Uh, no. Sorry.”
“Right. Me and Simmons, we probably—“
“Nope.”
“Agent May?” Daisy shook her head. “Y/N?”
“Sorry, Tripp,” Y/N smiled.
“Damn. And this is really a place you two want to go back to?”
“Easy, playboy. Right now, we have to round up Simmons and the rest of the team.”
“Doubt she’s back yet.”
“What are you talking about?”
“I thought you two knew. Simmons left base an hour ago.”
“Where was she going?” Daisy asked.
“I don’t know.”
“Let’s go ask Coulson and May,” Y/N suggested. “Maybe she told them.”
The two women rushed down to find May and Coulson walking the hallway.
“Do you know where Simmons went?” Daisy asked them.
“No, sorry,” Coulson responded.
“She went to find Alistair Fitz,” May replied, like it was no problem.
“What?” Daisy questioned. “Why didn’t you come and tell us?”
“Because I don’t answer to you. Not here or any other fantasy word you three might have cooked up.”
“You told her?” Y/N asked Coulson.
“It came up in conversation,” he shrugged.
“How does the existence of an alternate reality come up in a casual conversation?”
“I’d like to think it’s because we were bonding, though I don’t really want to speak for her.”
“You’re really not helping,” Daisy said.
“Don’t worry. Melinda here said she’d keep an open mind.” May sighed.
“We can’t leave without Simmons.”
“She knows how to stay off-radar,” May stated. “I’m sure everything’s fine.”
~~~
The small team packed up the quinjet. And now the only person they were waiting for was Simmons.
“Hey,” Daisy went up to Tripp in the pilot’s seat. “We all good?”
“Ready when you are,” he replied.
“Yeah. We just can’t leave without her.”
Y/N was waiting at the end of the ramp. She was the first to notice Simmons.
“Jemma!” She exclaimed rushing towards her friend. “You okay?”
“I was trying to save Fitz,” she answered, clearly shaken up.
Daisy noticed blood on Simmons jacket. “Please tell me that’s not his blood,” Daisy pled.
“No. It’s… It’s from his father. I—I killed him.”
“That’s—that’s okay. Fitz’s dad is just an avatar. You didn’t kill anyone. You just made some ones and zeroes disappear.”
“But Fitz won’t come with us now. We’ve lost him.”
“No, we haven’t,” Y/N said, shaking her head. She rested her hands on her friends shoulders. “We will figure something out. But first, we have to get back to the real world before Aida makes us disappear. Okay?”
“Okay.”
Y/N and Daisy guided Simmons into the quinjet and Tripp took off.
~~~
The quinjet landed on the roof of a steel mill. Everyone armed up and headed out, leaving Tripp with the quinjet. May led the way into the mill.
“Just up ahead,” she stated.
“Something doesn’t feel right,” Y/N said, cautiously surveying the area.
“Nothing about this disgusting world feels right,” Simmons stated. “It’s hell. A digital hell.”
“Radcliffe said the back door was in a public fountain, not some creepy steel mill.”
“If only the exit beacon I brought to this world worked, we wouldn’t be in this mess.”
“Yeah, well, if we’re gonna get out of here,” Y/N said, “this is our last chance.”
“Found the location,” Coulson called to them.
They quickly followed him. He led them to a pool of molten steel.
“This can’t be it,” Daisy said.
“Uh, the coordinates lead right there,” May replied.
“Into a pool of molten steel?” Coulson wondered. “You think Radcliffe gave us bad info?”
“Radcliffe’s a prisoner at HYDRA,” Daisy said. “He’s got no reason to lie.”
“Maybe someone else found it and took it,” May suggested, getting annoyed.
“The back door is part of the Framework’s digital infrastructure. It can’t be moved.”
“But it could be concealed,” Y/N spoke up. “What if Madame HYDRA discovered the back door and built this place as a way to prevent people from passing through?”
“Wait a minute,” Mack interrupted, confused. “What is this back door everyone keeps talking about? I thought we were here to take out Madame Hydra.”
“Let me guess,” May started, “no one told you about the other world.”
“The other world? What?”
“So what does this mean for us?” Coulson asked, ignoring Mack and May.
“It means Aida’s won,” Simmons stated.
“You seriously believe that there’s some magical back door that will transport us to another world?” May wondered.
“It’s not magic, May. It’s science.”
“Then where’s your proof?”
“We just have to trust Radcliffe,” Daisy said. “He said when a person passes through the back door—“
“That they wake up on the other side. This is what you really believe?” May asked Coulson.
“Admittedly, it doesn’t sound great when you say it like that,” Coulson admitted.
“You lied to me,” Mack said to Daisy.
“Mack—“
“No, don’t try to talk your way out of this. You’re a damn liar. My daughter looks up to you, and for what? SO you can bring me out here on some wild goose chase?”
“Daisy was only trying to help,” Simmons excused.
“How?” By taking me away from my kid? What the hell is wrong with you guys?” Mack pointed at Y/N. “And you? You’re willing to let me feel the pain you felt. That’s… that’s cruel.”
“Mack, you don’t understand,” Y/N began. “It’s different. So, diff—“
“No it isn’t.”
“Hey, guys, maybe we should start thinking about a plan b,” Coulson tried to cool everyone down.
“Glad you’ve finally come to your senses,” May said. “We need to get out of here.”
“Actually, I was thinking we might try to find another way through the back door. I still believe Daisy’s right.”
“Wake up!” Mack exclaimed. “There is no back door, just like she’s not Moses about to take you to the promised land."
“That’s it,” Y/N whispered. “Daisy, quake it.”
“What?” Daisy questioned. “What do you—“
“Quake the damn thing, Daisy!”
Daisy held out her hand and quaked the pool of molten steel. It revealing the backdoor beneath it.
“HYDRA!” May shouted, as bullets came at the group. “Take cover!”
The small team took cover. HYDRA started shooting more and Y/N caused them all to drop to the ground, unconscious. Daisy went back up to the platform and quaked the steel again, uncovering the backdoor.
“It’s real,” Coulson said.
“It could be a trap,” May suggested.
“The time for doubting’s over. We’re going back to our world.”
Coulson got up from where he was hiding, heading to the platform across from Y/N, Daisy, and Mack. Unknown to the team, HYDRA agents were below them. Shots were fired, hitting Coulson.
“Coulson!” Y/N screamed, quickly appearing at his side. She had watched him die once, she couldn’t bear to do it again. “We have to get you up.”
May and Mack began firing at the lower agents as Y/N helped hoist Coulson up.
“This feels oddly familiar,” Coulson grunted, blood covering up his chest.
“Sadly, it is,” Y/N replied.
“You were there… I think I remember that…”
“We need to get you patched up,” May said, coming from behind.
“No, it’s too late for that. Help me to the edge. It’s the only way.”
“Daisy!” Y/N shouted. “The door!”
“On it!” She replied, quaking the door open again. May and Y/N helped Coulson to the edge.
“Hey, come with me,” Coulson told May.
“How can you be sure it will work?” She asked.
“I can’t. Guess it’s gonna be a leap-of-faith type of thing.”
“It’s not that simple for me.”
“Yes, it is… Just follow my lead.”
Coulson pushed himself away from Y/N and May, falling back into the door. He disappeared, causing a wave to ripple out through the Framework, showing that it wasn’t real.
“They were right,” Mack whispered. “It’s not real.”
“Go May,” Y/N urged. “He’ll be right there when you wake. And we won’t be far behind… Go.”
Giving Y/N one last look, May took that piece of faith and jumped. Y/N sighed in relief. Two down, just 5 more of them to get through.
“Simmons, you’re up!” Daisy shouted.
As Simmons headed towards the platform, a gun cocked behind her. She looked back to see Fitz pointing a gun at her. Radcliffe was handcuffed behind him.
“Hello, Jemma Simmons,” he greeted. “Seems you finally found me.”
“Fitz—“ She tried to rush towards him.
“You don’t get to say my name! Not after everything you’ve done.”
“It wasn’t supposed to be like this.” Simmons shook her head. “Aida, she took you from me, and I cam to rescue you.”
“So you kill my father? Right after he tells me that he loves me, you murder him in cold blood as I listen.”
“I am so sorry,” Simmons cried. “I was an accident.”
“Nothing that you’ve done has been an accident! You want to destroy this world! To destroy me! You want to destroy the woman that I love!”
“That woman is lying to you! None of this is real! She’s not real! Aida’s just a robot yo and Radcliffe created.”
Outside the small room Fitz-Simmons was in, Y/N was wondering what was happening. So she slowly walked over, ready to attack.
“Her name is Ophelia,” Fitz defended.
“It’s name is Aida,” Simmons responded. “Artificially Intelligent Digital Assistant. And stop making excuses for it!”
“She’s right, Fitz,” Y/N cut in, bringing the attention to her. “Radcliffe, Simmons, and Daisy have all told you the truth.”
“Y/N?” Radcliffe quietly wondered. “Wow, they really called in the big guns.”
“Please… Fitz,” Simmons pled. “You have to wake up.”
“Get on your knees,” Fitz ordered Simmons.
“No.” Fitz shot Simmons in the foot causing her to fall to the ground.
“You don’t get to touch her!” Y/N screamed freezing Fitz in place. “You don’t.”
“Let me go,” he growled.
“Fitz, listen to me,” Simmons begged. “I love you.”
“And you mean nothing to me.”
Suddenly there was a gun shot. Y/N turned to see that Radcliffe was out of handcuffs now and had shot the agent with them. He pointed his gun at Fitz and took Fitz’ gun away. Radcliffe looked at Y/N and she let her hold on him go. Radcliffe hit Fitz on the side of the face, pushing him towards the door and the platform.
“This was never my intention,” Radcliffe stated. Y/N quickly went to Simmons, helping her up. “The Darkhold corrupted my mind. Please, don’t blame yourself.”
“Go,” Simmons nodded at Daisy. Daisy quaked open the back door.
“It was all my fault.” Radcliffe pushed Fitz through the back door. Simmons caught Radcliffe before he fell in too. “Bringing Fitz here was the only way I could truly save him. I know I can’t make everything that happened in the Framework right, but at least— at least this way, Fitz gets to be his old self again.”
“Simmons,” Y/N called. “Go.”
Simmons nodded, limping forward and throwing herself through the doorway. That left Mack, Daisy, and Y/N.
“Now it’s your turn,” Daisy told Mack. “You said it yourself, this world is not real. And in the real world, you’re in danger right now.”
“What about Hope? Is she in danger?” He asked.
“No,” Y/N answered, appearing beside Daisy. “Things are different there.”
“Different? How?”
“Hope… she isn’t alive in our world. I’m so, so sorry. I… I don’t exactly know what happened. It’s not something you talk about.”
“No, no. That— on, the doesn’t make any sense. She’s alive here. Why would it be different there?”
“Aida,” Daisy answered. “She made changers in this world to keep us from fighting back. So fixed your biggest regret.”
“Then I’m staying.”
“Mack—“
“I don’t want to live in a world without Hope.”
“But it’s not real,” Y/N argued. “You saw it with your own eyes it’s a computer program. All of it. Even hope.”
“She laughs at my jokes. We watch movies together. And when she’s sad… when she’s sad, I hold her. So, she’s real to me.” Mack looked back in the eyes. “If you had the chance to be with AJ, would you stay?”
“I know the truth, Mack… And I know that AJ is safe where he is. Loved and protected. Here…. Here’s not that. Here’s not real.”
“I have to stay.”
“I understand,” Daisy replied. “And I know how hard this is, but you have people who really care about you,” she began crying, “who love you very much.”
“Tell them I’m sorry.”
“Mack, please… I don’t want to lose you.”
“Good luck. Both of you.”
With a deep inhale, the two women looked at each other, both shedding tears. They turned away from Mack. Not wanting to force him into anything. Daisy grabbed Y/N’s hand, quaking the door open as they jumped together.
next chapter >
I know I said that Agents of Shield would end with this chapter, but that ended up not being the case. We will see our Agents of Shield team for the last time in chapter 125 and Infinity War will start in chapter 126.
2021 Masterlist
Here’s a full masterlist of all fics I’ve posted this year.
We’re just gonna place it under the readmore because it is a LOT. They’re just organized by what fics I posted from Jan 1st until now.
Good Luck Charm - Okay so maybe it was odd to keep photos of your old college boyfriend, but memorabilia was memorabilia. Besides, memorabilia turned out to be good luck charms at times. Especially when good-meaning, but obsessive boyfriends were involved.
Sugar and Spice - Peggy is a no-nonsense professor at Brooklyn University. Steve is the University's new art professor and their teaching styles could not be any more opposite. She's a no-nonsense teacher, Steve is laid back. Things were going fine until Steve decided to show his true colors and damn if Peggy couldn't think that this guy was the most adorable thing on this planet.
In a (red) flash - Steve accidentally touches something red while he visits Peggy's grave and finds he gets everything he's always wanted.
Christmas With The Family - It's Steve's first Christmas with Thor's parents and anything that can go wrong does go wrong.
The work you do never stops - Natasha sets a file down in front of Steve and Steve thinks nothing of it. Natasha is known to be secretive but when she sits down and waits for his reaction, he knows it's something more. Much more or where Steve learns that Peggy started underground gay clubs.
Taken care of business - Steve gets stabbed while protecting Peggy at her bar and Peggy learns the truth of their feelings for each other.
A Day To Remember - Peggy Carter is homesick for a life she had lived through, now that she finds herself in the 21st Century with the love of her life. Steve sees this pain and does something about it.
Voice in my ear - When Steve Rogers wakes up in the 21st century, he's reintroduced to sharp-as-ever 90-year-old Peggy Carter. He now lives in her home with a garden outback. She's a voice in his ear as he goes on countless missions, she 'uses' him to spy on debriefings, see how SHIELD is running, and get intel on their new recruits. Everyone knows. No one is stopping them. That being said, Steve is still madly in love with Peggy and doesn't care she's 90. He wants to be with her, but Peggy knows herself, knows her days are limited, and just wants Steve to have a life outside of her. Steve disagrees.
Got That Second Chance - Steve isn't sure how to feel about time travel, especially after the battle with Thanos, he is made aware that time travel has caused him to lose his serum. He still does as he's always planned - to have the life he deserves with Peggy.
An agent teaching a captain - Steve wakes up to a new future, Peggy is assigned as his liaison and that means accompanying her on missions. Today's mission involves a stakeout and the pair pretending to be a couple.
You Never Were - Fitz's father hated everything about him. How his hands shook, how he couldn't keep them still or stop chewing on his thumb. How he stuttered over himself, couldn't get the right words out. How obsessive he was with science this week and flower picking the next. How he had no friends. Most of all, Alistair Fitz considered his son a failure. Fitz did too until he met Agent Maria Hill, until he was taken into SHIELD Academy, and until he met Jemma Simmons who helped him find the answers.
Steve’s Jealous Streak - If there's one thing Steve can't resist, it's his wife in a blonde wig and the knowledge that another man had been touching her. Even if it was for intel.
Here today in memory - In his mind, today marks not just her deathday, but the 72nd anniversary that Peggy Carter had said yes.
Dance With Me Til’ The End - Steve finds a way, even after his death, to give Peggy the life she deserves.
Stars In The Sky - Peggy and Steve share many things in life, including the day they lost their loved ones.
Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy (okay technically this was December 2020, but I finished it in ‘21, so it counts) - Peggy Carter took a chance. She ran away from a loveless, boring marriage to become a dance instructor in America. After her brother tells her that he can't make it to see her for Christmas, Peggy finds herself meeting her (hot) neighbor and his adorable daughter. Life seems to take it over from there when little Sarah insists that she stays for dinner.
Home & Light - Peggy Carter was home for him and Steve was sure of one thing - he'd follow Peggy to the ends of the earth. Losing her is losing the light in the darkness, his guiding star. Without her, without Peggy Carter, Steve is lost.
Past, Present, and Future - It's Peggy's hundredth birthday and Steve has a special plan to celebrate it.
Selfish Kisses - It's the morning after Steve's surprising return and Peggy knows she promised she'd let Steve sleep in but she couldn't help herself.
Meeting The Brother - Bucky has always known Clint had a brother. He knew the pair weren't the best of friends and weren't exactly close, but he never thought he'd get to meet him like this.
The Bet - Steve makes the unfortunate (or rather fortunate) choice to open a porn link that Clint had sent him. Now he's in a long-term bet with Peggy over who can outlast who and so far she's winning.
Life Is Full Of Surprises - They wanted a funeral. Peggy just wanted to sit in the bar and drink
Day Three: Oral Sex - All Bucky wants to do is thank Sam for being the most perfect husband. And what better way to do that is to allow the man to use his mouth like a fleshlight?
Day Four: ABO - What else is Peggy going to do when she wakes up to find an Omega near heat asleep on her doorstep?
Day Six: Thigh Riding - It's Peggy's birthday and she gets to celebrate it as she pleases.
Day Nine: Fisting - What Sam wants, Sam gets.
Day Two: Wax Play - Clint has to make it up to Bucky about cheating (at Mario Kart).
Day One: Double Penetration - Peggy takes on Steve and Bucky
Day Eleven: Threesomes - Following Erskine's death, Peggy does everything she can to make sure that Steve gets out of his head.
Day Thirteen: Squirting - James Barnes has a problem. He believes he's an Omega, but even at the age of 24, he hasn't been able to produce any slick. His doctor refers him to Doctor Steve Rogers, a new hot Alpha in the hospital. And that's all James can think about while Steve's fingers are in him.
Day Fourteen: Deep Throat/Shirabi - It's Steve's day of the week to do what he wants to Sam and he has it planned perfectly. It starts with ropes and ends with a cock down the throat.
Day Sixteen: Lactation - Steve loves that his mama Peggy leaks and that her cock is bigger than his. Size doesn't matter, but Steve is a total mama's boy despite his large size.
Day Twenty: Titty Fucking - Steve is a new sub of Peggy's and she's fully aware of how much of a brat this boy can be. When he starts to avoid his doctor appointments and thinks that fucking her tits is for /his/ pleasure, rather than hers, Peggy comes up with the perfect punishment.
Day Twenty-Five: Pregnancy Kink - Peggy is long overdue to give birth and Steve is fresh back from a mission. He decided to kill two birds with one stone, satisfying a long-overdue need to fuck his beautiful wife and to help her water break.
Day Thirty-One C: Medical Kink - Clint had a problem. Several problems, actually. For one) he hasn't been to a doctor in Lord knows how long, for two) he was starting his heat thanks to neglecting to take his suppressants, for three) he had a super hard crush on the new Shield doctor. And these all came to a heavy head when Shield's new doctor is forced to make a home visit to a very on edge Clint Barton.
The Beast Inside - She looked like an angel standing before him, dressed in black. The only spot of color on her was the trademark red on her lips. If she took her gloves off, Steve knew underneath there would be red on her fingertips where she’d spend hours perfectly painting her nails. Peggy wants to fix the one person who means the world to her, even if that means digging up the past.
We Waited Long Enough - Wedding Day and Steve is nervous. Also, they wrote their own vows.
Big For Their Age - Chester Micheal Carter-Rogers is perfect in every single way. Even if he's a little too advance for his age.
You Are Protecting Our Everything - They know they have no other choice, leaving their baby girl anywhere else would pose a risk to them, to the team, to her. Leaving her here is the best choice that any of them have at surviving. It's just Jemma never thought she'd get to meet her idol and why in the hell is Steve Rogers here?
Unofficial, Official Birthday - July 4th might not be Steve's real birthday and Peggy is determined to find the truth.
The Universe’s Revenge - Chester Phillips had survived a war. They brought Captain America home and he's reunited with his gal. The guy is just tired of all the damn eye fucking. He can't escape it.
New Chief In Town - There's a new chief in town and Jack Thompson isn't happy.
Just Like Old Times - Chester Phillips is a tired man. He's seen far too much between the war and whatever the hell Red Skull was, but with Schmidt now dead and Captain America home (and some of the politics dealt with so the Howling Commandos and Carter can stay together), he just wants to go home to rest. Even if it's in an empty house and alone. Then Carter had to screw it all up and invite him to dinner at Sarah Rogers' home.
The Future Wasn’t Kind To You, Was It? - Steve is a tired man and all he wants to do is rest. He doesn’t want to fight anymore, but he will if he has to. He just wants to lay the shield down and sleep, to let the ground open up and consume him. He can only think of one place where he can go where he might have a chance at a little bit of peace.
The Brooklyn Daily Eagle Interview - After their wedding, Steve and Peggy are asked to do an interview for the Brooklyn Daily Eagle Newspaper.
Prequel: Bring Her Home - One day this will all make sense, but for now, Steve promises himself as he watches Peggy being taken away by Schmidt from Chester Phillip’s arms, that he will kill Schmidt with his own two hands if he has to.
Steve’s Problem and Peggy’s Two-Part Solution - Steve Rogers had a problem and many men wouldn’t consider a hyperactive sex drive a problem, but when you pair it with the serum, it became a constant problem that made life just a tad bit more difficult. And all Peggy wanted to do was help her darling husband.
Just A Drop of Time More - Steve is fucking exhausted. For the past five years, all he’s done is work, work, work to distract himself from the very fact that he was living in the future and everyone who knew and loved him was dead. Or so he thought because when he comes home one evening, he finds a very alive and young Peggy Carter waiting for him
Be The Change You Wish To See In The World - Steve finally gets to tell Jack exactly what he thinks of him after Jack presses a few buttons.
This Looks Bad - This wasn't supposed to happen. Clint Barton didn't know what choices he made in his life (okay he did) to end up stuck in a teddy bear suit to scare his boyfriend. He did know one thing now: Bucky Barnes, the love of his life, got off on teddy bears.
I’m Coming Home - Chester Phillips knows a few things in life. That being: 1. He loves Sarah Rogers more than anything. 2. Joseph Rogers might've married her to get her to stay in America but he's a no-good son of a bitch and totally wrong for her. 3. Steve Rogers might or might not be his child but it doesn't mean he loves the boy any less. That being said, he's done with these foolish letters and wants his gal in his arms. He wants to go home.
What if: what happened to Peggy wasn’t the end - It’s the first sob that wrecks him, shaking his chest, and making him cough. It’s Bucky who draws him in for a hug, wrapping his arms tightly around his frame as he cried into his shoulder. They’d lost one another - he and Peggy. They lost one another and they found each other, just to lose again. He’s not okay. He’s far from okay and he’d give anything to have her back. The right partner, someone who could do some good in this world. Sure, he had the suit, he could help out the Howling Commandos but it wasn’t the same without Peggy.
One Foot In Front Of The Other - After Steve ends up in physical therapy because of a life-altering decision, he finds he's not alone in the room either. Sure, Natasha is there to help him (and he's sure 90% of it is a guilty complex), but there's also someone Steve has been crushing on hard: Captain Peggy Carter.
Time Apart Has Left Me Hollow - After Peggy's death, Steve finds himself spiraling. Tony tries to make it better with a little gift, but in truth, he's hurting too.
Caught In The Act - All Steve wanted to do was have one nice evening, using Mjolnir when Thor decided to pay his boyfriend a visit.
WaWa, BaBa, and Mr. Scruffles - When Jamie's security blanket is in the wash, Peggy and Steve have to find a new way to distract their daughter.
Tre själar - Steve bears the weight of the world on his shoulders and every day that weight starts to crush him a little bit more. He starts to feel it when Peggy's dementia is reaching a point he knows she won't survive for much longer. Thor, always having been smitten by Lady Carter, seeks to rectify the situation.
Double Trouble - Peggy and Steve have an announcement at the same time that Sarah and Chester do. Chester just reacts differently, is all.
Beach Day - Steve finds himself facing his typical neighborhood bullies at the beach when Peggy decides to step in.
Sugar Lips - Steve is only ten years old when his life is turned upside down. His best friend in the whole world is kidnapped, ripped from his arms. Steve is left disabled after the incident, using a cane to get around on good days. It becomes his lifelong obsession to find out exactly who in the hell took his best friend from him. The answers start to fall into place when a mysterious woman he's seen around campus comes to his apartment, the night before he intends to move to California to follow a weak lead. Peggy Carter doesn't serve him answers on a silver platter, but she allows him to join her in figuring out what happened all those years ago.
Steve’s Birthday Dinner - It's Steve's birthday and Peggy has some plans.
Their First Meeting - This is a story on how Alya Fitz meets Chester Rogers-Carter and how they become best friends and run their parents into the ground. Their parents being no other than Agents of Shield, Director of Shield, and Captain America.
Doing What Needs To Be Done - Being Director of Shield comes with many pros and cons, the most major con is losing precious time with her husband. After missing a promised date night and the realization that she's far more burnt out than she realized, Peggy agrees to let Steve help her.
Running on borrowed time - Steve is the SSR’s newest agent. People have been brushing him off due to his small size, everyone but Agent Carter, of course. The agent has taken him under her wing and seems determined to help him. He’s thankful, of course, but there’s a secret he harbors, one he’s terrified of an Alpha-filled office finding out - that he’s an Omega. He’s only /just/ able to keep it under wraps thanks to borderline illegal suppressants. And Steve suspects that his good luck with both the suppressants and Agent Carter is about to run out.
Red Alert - Sam and Natasha both make a suggestion for Steve to talk to a new therapist that might be more on his level of understanding his situation.
The Transparent Hand of Lives Gone By - Steve finds himself lost in a neighborhood where every house looks the same. Peggy helps him find his way home.
Tony Stark’s Super Secret Costume - Halloween is just a few short days away and Tony is without a costume. He asks his Auntie Ana to assist him in making his costume and can barely wait to debut it.
Hope - “You owe me that dance, you know? I picked out a dress, you would’ve loved it. Just as much as you loved that one back in the bar. You couldn’t take your eyes off of me, I swore a fly had flown straight into your mouth the way it hung open. I should’ve taken my chance then, asked you to dance on that floor if I had known how this would’ve ended. Peggy starts to realize that Hope is just a word for her, there is very little meaning in it.
Banana Pancakes - After finding a young German soldier who'd seem to have been forced into this line of work, Peggy and Steve work to find him a new home and a new name.
The Magic of Halloween - After moving to a new neighborhood, Jemma and Fitz are taken trick or treating and they get to meet Fitz's hero.
Pumpkin King - "I am the Pumpkin King!"
Ravishment - Unknownst to them, Steve finds himself in a rut and Peggy finds herself in heat. They're not even aware of it until Steve shows up at her home office naked and takes her on her desk.
Husband Material - Being pregnant with multiples is bad enough, but add being pregnant with multiples who perhaps possess the super-soldier serum that their daddy has, is a nightmare. It means Peggy is finding a hard time finding clothes she likes, made out of a soft enough material that she likes.
A Peg for Christmas - After a snowball fight, Steve finds out Peggy has an early Christmas Present for him.
Clint Barton Meets Director Carter - Clint Barton is nothing to the world, but a tool. He'd been used by many folks in his life and he's tired of it, tired of losing, and this time, lets himself get caught to get what he wants. A conversation with Director Peggy Carter. (and punched by Natasha Romanoff)
The Best Things In Life Are Unpredictable - After a one-night stand at a costume party in the Brooklyn Museum, Peggy Carter finds her life being flipped upside down in the most unpredicted ways. She doesn’t know the name of the gentleman with who she slept with, she just remembers the taste of alcohol on his lips and the smirk on his lips while he was between her legs. Steve Rogers aka Captain America on the other hand wants nothing more than to find the mysterious woman who he slept with on Halloween Night, but thanks to the Asgardian Mead in his system he remembers nothing about her. Not even a name, just a vision of red behind his eyelids and a warmth in his chest.
Mistletoe - Steve cannot lie to save his life, especially to his girlfriend whose whole career is built on the ability to lie. His mother's yearly Christmas dinner will be a bit different this year and not just because Chester Phillips is officially his stepfather.
A Father’s Love - Steve and Peggy learn that their son is deaf.
Once Upon A Time - “This is a story about Captain Peggy Carter, a fierce pirate of the 7 seas who takes from the rich and gives to the poor, and Prince Steve Rogers, a prince who is hidden from the world and knows nothing of the world around him.” Steve and Peggy are forced to attend Howard’s yearly Christmas party, leaving their 7-year-old twins, James and Michelle, to spend Christmas Eve with Pappy Phillips and Mama Sarah. Club Pining Fool - Clint likes Bucky. Bucky likes Clint. They're both just terrible at telling one another their feelings and let their dicks handle it.
No complaints here: it’s their honeymoon and Bucky has some ideas for his Omega.
Agents Of SHIELD Series Finale Easter Eggs And References
This is it. The last two hours. What is it they say? It’s all been leading to this? Yeah.
As always, and for the last time, if you haven’t yet watched the episodes, you should stop reading now. This list of Easter eggs assumes you’ve already seen the episodes.
Spoilers.
Also, I’m going to say, since I’m writing about two episodes at once here, and I’m assuming everybody reading this has actually watched the earlier episodes of the show, I’m probably not going to explain every single callback to earlier storylines. When series end, they tend to do even more than usual, and I think most people will pick up on the majority of them. So, they might not all be here.
Now, let’s go.
.
.
.
S7E12 “The End Is At Hand”
Malick wants to set Kora free
I’ve pretty much said this since Kora met Malick, but yeah, their dynamic is so, so, so much Ward and Kara. It’s creepy. But I think Kora recognizes it more so than Kara did.
The Fitz stance
I love that Deke recognizes that Fitz has a certain stance when he tries to jog Jemma’s memory. Does he know that they stand the same way sometimes? Probably.
The blue and purple of it all
Okay, so maybe this is just my tv, but the stuff in space is very much in Daisy’s color palette. Purple has always been her color, and a lot of the stuff in space the last two years has had either a lot of red or blue. When Daisy heads into the chronocom ship, there’s a lot toward the blue end of the colors, showing that this is still Daisy’s story.
Garrett being left to die
I know they call this out in the show, but I do like Garrett being left to die by the bad guys too and realizing he can switch sides, just like in the original timeline.
The shock stick
Admittedly, I don’t remember what this is called, but this a very Whedony throwback. It was first used in the second episode of the series by Grant Ward in Peru. It’s based on a weapon used in the series Firefly. I don’t think it’s been used on the show in quite a while.
Jemma wants a suit
Is Jemma the only member of the team who hasn’t had a formal tactical suit/super hero costume. I think so. She’s had the standard SHIELD ones like everyone else, but not the suits like Daisy, Bobbi, and May have worn. Even Elena doesn’t wear the standard one. Of course she wants one.
Jemma’s rambling
While DIANA is melted away in her brain (which, uh, seems like it would not be good for your brain, just saying), Simmons starts to ramble a whole lot. She references a lot of past events in the show, but also, she kind of sounds like dialogue in Alice In Wonderland, which just seems fitting for a woman who keeps ending up in strange places she doesn’t want to be in by strange travel devices.
The 084 Meet Up
I love that we get slightly familiar faces without them being named. I mean, Victoria Hand is obvious, but not sure who the rest are. I also love that we get pay off for what Enoch and Koenig bonded over when he was left behind way back when. The two of them (and the rest of the Koenigs) distributing 084s throughout time to loyal agents for this moment is genius.
And yes, both episode titles are said out loud in both episodes.
S7E13 “What We’re Fighting For”
Quantum Realm
Yes, that’s the same realm they use in Avengers: Endgame to gather the infinity stones and move between timelines. Fitz is using some Ant-Man tech.
1983 NY
I just want you all to know that there was a major blackout in New York in 1983 in Manhattan…. On August 11, as reported in the New York Times on August 12. The same day this episode aired. I did not know this random bit of information. I googled it.
Back to the season 6 finale
When we get the first tidbit of FitzSimmons backstory for Jemma’s refrain of “we had time,” we get to see Fitz, Simmons, and Enoch go back to the events of the season six finale as they intercept Piper and Flint. Not only that, but the people Jemma brings with her to the temple to save everyone are the actual team. That is some paradox level science fiction right there. Very comic booky. (Edited to say: I can’t believe none of y’all corrected me because I had season five here when this just happened in season six! I literally woke up in the middle of the night remembering that I wrote it wrong. Hahahaha)
The stars in their skies
I love that this episode really laid it on that Jemma’s first love was astronomy. We get the scoliosis story again, but we get to see how Jemma has worked her love of the stars into her life. Her favorite star system as a child is where she starts her family, what she names her daughter after, and she even repeatedly utters the phrase “stars in your skies” as a nod to love. Nice.
A situation in Moscow
Look, all I’m saying is that last time SHIELD was in Russia, Bobbi and Hunter were disavowed by the agency. And Mack is now there with a helicarrier? Hmm.
The anniversary meeting
This is very reminiscent of how Natasha leads her meetings from afar in Avengers: Endgame, though probably enhanced by whatever alien tech Fitz and Simmons have put together here. It’s perfect that Daisy, Sousa, and Kora are in space while Mack and Elena are still part of SHIELD and May is teaching at the Coulson Academy. I really thought Mack would retire, but he just can’t let go, huh? Fitz and Simmons are really the only ones to truly retire. Though Coulson has more time.
Piper’s wish
She gets an LMD/Chronocom version of Davis. I just - that’s adorable. She wants her best friend back. And yes, he’s tech. They didn’t go back and save him. Fitz and Simmons built him because he mentions being programmed to be stupid.
Code 136
The code Coulson puts into his briefcase to get the keys to his new Lola? Yeah, that’s how many episodes there are of the show.
Edited to add: And one I missed, courtesy of VFX guru Mark Kolpack:
And that’s it. The end of the SHIELD we all know. I hope some of these actors will come back to play these characters once in a while for Marvel all over again because I think, despite it ending at a solid point, we’re all going to miss this show a lot.
Half A Heart
Pairing: SHIELD!Reader x Daniel Sousa
Word Count: 2.3K
Warnings: some self-destructive behavior, vomiting, mild AoS spoilers up through 7x04
a/n: Here’s a Daniel Sousa soulmates AU I thought of at like midnight and wrote in two hours because I swear I cannot get enough of that man. Let me know what you think!
___
Everyone started out with their lives feeling kinda off-kilter. Everything felt just a little bit off, perpetually unbalanced, not quite full, and it all had to do with the heart tattooed on each person’s wrist. Or, rather, a half a heart, as it wasn’t until you met your soulmate that the heart became whole and with it the entire world shifted into place. You were a bit different. You still had the same half a heart as all your friends, but yours was white. Nobody knew what it meant. Normal soulmarks were red, a sign that your soulmate was alive and well and you’d be meeting them any day now. Black soulmarks existed as well, though they were much sadder. A black soulmark meant that your soulmate had died, all accounts said the black mark was a terrible burden to carry. However, there were no records of a white soulmark.
Growing up you believed the white mark was a worse burden to carry, sometimes just wishing the mark would turn black. At least then you’d know your soulmate had actually existed. Instead, you had become certain that you didn’t have a soulmate, destined to walk the earth with only half a heart.
So, you had thrown yourself into your career. You were recruited by SHIELD directly out of high school and you spent four years at the Academy of Operations, training endlessly to be a field agent. Four years of hoping that if you just pushed yourself a little harder you could forget the excitement of your peers who were meeting their soulmates for the first time, forget that you would never know the feeling of “rightness” everyone talked about. It was no surprise when you graduated top of your class.
You were quickly recommended to a team of agents who took on SHIELD’s most dangerous assignments. It wasn’t until a couple missions in that you realized: no one on your team had a soulmate. Each of your teammates had a black mark on their wrists and they explained that SHIELD only assigned people without soulmates to the team. The organization refused to send agents with soulmates on such dangerous missions, it would be cruel. You learned the policy was similar to that of the military up until the 80s when people began petitioning to be able to join the armed forces outside of wartime.
Some might’ve found this practice disheartening and sickening, that SHIELD was willing to send you to your deaths just because you didn’t have your other half waiting for you at home but you took it as a good thing. You convinced yourself that not having a soulmate just made you an even better agent. At least, you tried to convince yourself, but some nights you were kept awake by your longing for your other half.
Nevertheless, you were pissed when you received your transfer notice. The higher-ups had recommended you for a different team, and with or without your approval you were leaving. You’d had half a mind to go sulk in your bunk when you arrived at the giant plane you’d be traveling around the world in but your new teammates hadn’t given you a chance. Coulson - yes Phil Coulson, as in died-for-the-Avengers Phil Coulson - had immediately introduced you to FitzSimmons, who had latched onto you immediately.
The team file had led you to believe FitzSimmons was one person, though you quickly discovered that it was a scientist duo, Leopold Fitz and Jemma Simmons. The two were clearly soulmates. You had known without even seeing their full, red marks. They acted like two halves of a whole and for the first month of traveling with the team you did your best to avoid them as much as possible. You felt bad, but you felt worse trying to ignore the pain in your chest stemming from the damned mark on your own wrist that seemed amplified in their presence.
At the start of your time together Simmons had been fascinated by your mark, though after inconclusive test after inconclusive test she concluded that the white mark was a mystery. Though you still didn’t have an answer, the one-on-one time with Simmons had made you more comfortable around the scientist and you found yourself not minding FitzSimmons’ presence as much.
By the time SHIELD fell the team had become something of a family to you. It wasn’t perfect, but you allowed the love you all shared for each other to fill some of the gaping hole your lack of a soulmate left. You still felt like you were walking around with only one shoe most days, but it felt more bearable.
You had a support system now. You comforted each other through Ward’s betrayal and Fitz’s recovery. You stuck by each other through alien cities and the discovery of Inhumans. You were relentless in rescuing Jemma from Maveth and Daisy from Hive. You were a shoulder to cry on as Daisy’s mark turned from red to black after Lincoln’s sacrifice. Your team had been there to rescue you when you had refused to leave the Framework because at least there you had a soulmate. You’d been to the future together, you’d stopped the end of the world, you’d seen way too much loss and experienced way too much suffering but you were still together, even if some members were gone.
You were so thankful to have your family by your side as you dealt with Sarge and Izel, none of you having properly recovered from Coulson’s death and now having to go head-to-head with a man with his face. It had felt like your most difficult task yet, with Jemma off rescuing Fitz and the Shrike’s presence on earth, but you had made it out unscathed.
Well, mostly unscathed. You had been a bit injured in the battle at the temple, and Jemma had insisted on doing a full-body check-up before clearing you for fieldwork in the 30s. Yes, the 1930s, because apparently it was the perfect time to add “traveling back in time” to your list of absolutely insane things you’ve done since you first stepped on the Bus. That’s when she noticed.
“Uh, y/n?” Jemma spoke, the professional demeanor she normally assumed when performing medical on the team breaking to show her confusion and concern. “When did that happen?”
“When did what happen? Oh...” Your words died in your throat when you looked down to where Jemma was pointing.
The mark on your wrist— the mark that had always been white, the mark who’s mystery you had somewhat made peace with— was now red.
“H-how is that possible?” You were scared. You thought you should probably be thrilled, you had a soulmate after all but instead you were terrified. The fear seeped into your bones and you thought you might puke.
“I have no idea,” Jemma answered honestly before sensing your distress and tacking on, “but, we’ll do some tests and try to get to the bottom of it. We never find out what the white meant, maybe this was always in the cards for you.”
The results of this round of testing felt somehow more confusing than the first. Biologically, nothing about your mark had changed and yet it was undeniably red. Jemma had tried to reassure you both by reminding you that the science of soulmarks was basically nonexistent anyway but it was clear by her panicked expression and your churning stomach that it wasn’t working.
Entirely lost as to what was happening to you, Jemma pulled you from field work. At some point you had wondered if you were missing the chance to meet your soulmate while you were stuck in the med bay but you brushed it off. If you actually had a soulmate, would it even be worth it to meet them only to be ripped away when the Zephyr jumped again? You weren’t sure you could handle that kind of heartbreak, and you had already gone this long with a half a heart.
When you arrived in the 50s you put up no fight when your teammates left the Zephyr without you. You had already made up your mind on the matter. However, fate, it seemed, had a different plan.
You were really just wandering aimlessly around the Zephyr. You’d needed a break from the chaos of the team’s time travel escapades and most of the team was currently fighting off chronicoms in the train below you.
You hadn’t even realized they had returned until you had meandered into the ramp and storage area of the Zephyr and ran smack into a stranger. You thought he might’ve said something, maybe “woah” or “look out” but you couldn’t tell through the sudden pounding in your ears.
Had you had time to think you might’ve remembered him from your freshman year history course at the Academy. But you didn’t have time because as soon as you bumped into the man you felt the undeniable need to vomit and you turned and bolted from the room. You were thankful the bathroom was where it was as you barely made it before you were spilling the contents of your stomach into the toilet.
Then someone was beside you, holding your hair away from your face and rubbing your back soothingly as you puked.
“Thanks, Jemma,” you breathed, your eyes clenched shut as you leaned over the toilet bowl, praying you wouldn’t start puking again. The pounding in your ears was gone but your whole body felt different.
Jemma stiffened at your words and muttered a quick apology as she backed away. Except that was definitely not Jemma’s voice.
Your eyes flew open as you scrambled away from the toilet, pressing your back against the bathroom wall as you stared wildly at the stranger. It seemed your brain had finally caught up with you as you recognized the man as Daniel Sousa, SHIELD agent, former partner of Peggy Carter, and the man your team had been trying to protect from the chronicoms.
“Wh-what are you doing?” You spluttered and Sousa blushed, looking away awkwardly.
“I-I’m sorry,” he stuttered out himself, “You were just…” he gestured to the toilet, “and, well, i t-think we’re…”
“What?”
“Y’know…”
You did not know. You had never felt more confused in your life. This man, who you had never met before had followed you into the bathroom to hold your hair while you threw up, and his words did nothing to explain his strange actions.
Rather than try to explain verbally, he pulled up his jacket and shirt sleeves to reveal his wrist.
“I think we might be…” he nodded down to the full red heart prominently displayed on his inner arm.
As if on instinct, you looked down at your wrist, breath catching in your throat as you started at the matching red heart now tattooed on your skin. Your soulmark was not only red but it was whole. You suddenly realized why you felt so different: your world had finally shifted into place.
“Oh god this has to be the worst possible way to meet your soulmate,” you groaned, slightly shocked that you were able to speak let alone joke when you thought for certain you should be crying after all the hell your soulmark had put you through.
Thankfully Sousa laughed. “I’m just thankful to have finally met you.”
The way he looked at you was so sincere that you swore your heart stopped right there. You stayed that way for a moment, him looking at you like you hung the stars and you wondering when death would greet you because surely it wasn’t possible to go this long without a heartbeat.
Then he cleared his throat.
“I’m Daniel Sousa,” he introduced, reaching out a hand to you which you took gratefully.
“Y/N Y/L/N,” you introduced yourself. “We should probably get off the bathroom floor.”
Daniel laughed again and your heart warmed at the sound. You clambered up to your feet before reaching out a hand to help him up, thankful to your subconscious for remembering that Daniel Sousa was an amputee and probably shouldn’t be plopping on the floor to help vomiting strangers, soulmates or not.
“Um, I need to brush my teeth, or get a mint, or something,” you rambled embarrassedly as you stood in the middle of the bathroom, suddenly very aware that you had just vomited and not only could you taste it but he could probably smell it and oh god.
Daniel graciously let you go and you reassured him that you’d find him when you were done.
___
You had heard others talk about finally feeling “whole” when they met their soulmate but you disagreed. You had always been whole, but now you felt full. The constant ache in your chest (that you honestly hadn’t even realized was abnormal) had suddenly vanished. You felt lighter and you could’ve sworn the world seemed a little brighter.
Technically it had been decades since the two of you had met but it had really only been a few months, though it felt like you had known Daniel your whole life. You supposed in some way you had, you were meant to be two halves of a whole after all. Regardless of timing, after years and years as a SHIELD agent, throwing yourself headfirst into danger at every opportunity you couldn’t imagine something as domestic as this.
The two of you were cuddled up together on the couch of your shared apartment. Saturday night had become movie night, a chance for you to catch your soulmate up on all the media he had missed between the 50s and the present. The end credits of Monsters Inc played in the background as he leaned down to kiss you softly. You melted into the kiss, the feel of his lips on yours the only thing rooting you in reality. This moment, your soulmate, the perpetual feeling of content, was real and it was yours.
Agents of SHIELD Fic: Tell Me I Got Here at the Right Time
finale and post-finale dousy spec. What if they had to fully reset the timeline before they could take it back? What if Daisy was left out of that decision?
A/N: Genuinely don’t know where this came from, other than I can’t seem to stop writing for these two. Also, I want to state for the record that I love Peggy Carter and shipped peggysous, but these two just have my heart and inspiration rn.
Title from “Here at the Right Time” by Josh Ritter.
Tell Me I Got Here at the Right Time (AO3 - wc: 4378)
They think she can’t hear them. In truth, Daisy wishes they were right.
“I still don’t think this is a good idea.” Simmons has regained a good bit of her sparkle since Fitz’s return, but the worry in her voice is what’s most evident now.
“I know. I’m not sure I do either.” There’s a muffled sound after Fitz’s response that Daisy guesses is Simmons swatting at his arm.
“It’s your idea!” she hisses. “What if-“
“Don’t even say it,” her husband answers. “And it’s not my idea. You know that.”
They choose that moment to step back outside, where Daisy’s wringing the nerves out of her hands, hoping to twist them into even more resolve before she steps into the makeshift portal. She knows Fitz has run over a hundred successful tests, has seen over half of them first-hand. But still.
He’s the one of the pair who meets her eyes first, so she hones in before he can try to talk her out of it again. “You promised.”
“I shouldn’t have,” he admits. He’s probably right. But he knows what it means to her, and they all know she would have found another way if he’d refused to help.
“But you did.”
“Yes, I did.” Fitz grimaces, hazarding a glance at his wife, who’s rubbing anxiously at her arms, and then sighs. “Daisy, are you really sure? If something happens to you…”
“I’m sure.” And she is. Danger be damned. “I’m going. I have to.”
She’s had more than enough of time travel. They all have. She’d be happy to never jump again for the rest of her life. But when she regained consciousness after that final battle with Malick and realized the sacrifices that had been made to defeat the Chronicoms for good, she knew immediately that she would be making at least one more trip.
They’d had to do it, the team swore, though they all had a hard time looking her in the eye. Everything, and everyone, had to go back to its rightful place before they could steal the timestream back from Sybil. Daisy didn’t fault them, but her heart broke down to pieces just the same when she woke up to find an empty chair at the foot of her recovery bed.
“He didn’t want to go. He made us promise to tell you that,” Simmons had told her tearfully, needlessly. She already knew.
It took her less than a month to come up with the plan, but a bit longer to convince the rest of the team -- and Daisy still thought of them as a team, scattered though they were now to their own concerns.
What sealed it for everyone else was a newly-discovered footnote from an historical S.H.I.E.L.D. ledger.
“According to public records, Daniel Sousa still died at the Hotel Roosevelt on July 22, 1955, like he was supposed to,” she’d explained on their video conference, even though the words burned in her throat. “But not long after, an underground faction of early S.H.I.E.L.D. agents started to assemble in the Los Angeles office. They organized in secret, and fought against the shadier HYDRA factions, every time one of its slimy snake heads popped out of the ground. They didn’t always win. But they did their best.”
“We know Peggy Carter was one of their leaders,” Daisy told the group. “But there’s no solid information on any of the others.”
“You think Agent Sousa faked his death again. On his own.” Simmons had been the one to put her pieces together, to say out loud the hope that was stuck in her throat.
“We gave him the blueprint,” Daisy nodded. None among them doubted his devotion to rooting out HYDRA, but she knew hope was part of what had her convinced, and she promised she’d weigh their approval before she’d risk her life. “It would be just like him to keep fighting.”
Fitz had mastered the tech in his time away, and had, of course, immediately started constructing a prototype in his backyard before she’d even thought to ask, much to Simmons’ chagrin. As it stands in modern-day Manchester, it looks like a simple phone booth -- a nerdy tribute Daisy’s dying to tease him about -- but he can calibrate it to any coordinates and time in the known universe. And she knows where she needs to be.
“What if he really is dead?” May had been the one to ask the questions no one else dared, though even she had waited for a private phone call to bring them up. “Or what if something happened, and he doesn’t remember you?”
“Then I’ll know for sure,” she’d answered, in part working to convince herself. There was perhaps a fate worse than being forgotten, in this case. “And even if…. even if he doesn’t want to come back, I’ll at least get to say a proper goodbye.”
It was clear everyone had their doubts, but even the most stalwart member of her found family couldn’t deny her that much.
“You’d better come back.” Simmons is tearing up again, and Daisy definitely cannot handle that right now. “Your goddaughter will be waiting.”
That’s been the hardest part of any of this. It had been a surprise when Fitz returned, just moments after they’d successfully banished the Chronicoms back to their own space and time. It had been a bigger surprise that he’d appeared with a pigtailed toddler in his arms, who’d immediately wriggled out of his grasp and wrapped herself familiarly around Simmons’ legs.
Their daughter was two, almost three, when Simmons forced herself to forget her, but she was brilliant, of course, and somehow made of even stronger stuff than her parents. She powered through her mother’s initial shock and dismay and overwhelming guilt, helping to mend all of their hearts in the process. (Fitz had also dutifully shown her pictures of her S.H.I.E.L.D. family, so she recognized “Auntie May,” “Big Mack” and the rest -- and had a special spot in her heart for “Aunt Dede,” which Daisy did not take for granted.)
“I’ll be back,” she promised. “You tell her to read Rocky a story every night for me.”
She and Simmons had stayed up the night before -- after putting the little girl to bed alongside her favorite cuddly toy -- talking through all of the possible contingencies. Almost none of them were worse than never knowing, never getting any sort of closure, her friend had agreed. Almost.
“You remember the order, yeah?”
“Yes, Fitz,” Daisy answers dutifully, trying not to roll her eyes. They’ve been over this fifty times, and drilled it in person at least ten. It’s more time and practice than they ever used to get in the field, on the fly. She’s itching to get a move on. “Launch, exit, cloak the device with the watch…”
“Then, when you’re ready to come back, de-cloak, enter and launch. It should bring you right back here.”
“No matter what,” Simmons chimes in, casting her a look that says much more than her simple reminder. “24 hours is the limit.”
“I know,” Daisy nods, nervously smoothing down her period-appropriate ensemble. “I just need to see him.”
Fitz and Simmons nod solemnly in unison -- if anyone can understand it, it’s them -- and with that, Daisy steps into the booth, preprogrammed with her coordinates, and hits the button on her modified wristwatch.
The jolt of the jump feels familiar, which she takes as a good sign, and when she steps out of the booth, a quick survey of her surroundings allows her to exhale a sigh of relief as she cloaks the pod.
Fitz had plotted out an alley next to the old SSR office in Los Angeles. They know from de-classified S.H.I.E.L.D. documents that the underground corps started in a hidden basement office of the same building, so that’s Daisy’s best guess as to a starting point. It’s a few weeks after his “death,” and if she knows Sousa, he barely missed a day of work.
She double-checks the lobby just to make sure she’s at the right spot, and then sneaks back around the side to slide in through a basement window well. She lands in some kind of storage room, full of file folders and cobwebs, and makes her way to the cluttered, dingy hallway, where, behind a closed, unmarked door, she hears a familiar voice that makes her breath catch in her throat.
“They need to keep thinking I’m dead,” he’s explaining to someone. But he’s not, and the relief is enough to make her brace herself on the doorframe. “And we need to find out what exactly Stark knows about what I was carrying, and more importantly, what he knows about who might be after it.”
Daisy takes a slow, deep breath and knocks softly on the door — and three things happen. First, she hears the conversation go silent, saved for a concerned murmur. Second, Sousa opens the door and she sees him for the first time in months, handsomely square as ever in a dark grey suit and pale green dress shirt. And third, she scans the room and realizes there’s a non-zero chance that she’s about to cry in front of Peggy Carter.
“Daisy?” Sousa’s eyes go wide when he sees her, and it’s hard to be concerned about comporting herself in the presence of the legendary founder of S.H.I.E.L.D. when she’s wondering if his heart is stuttering in his chest the same way as her own.
It hits her in that moment, how much she’s boxed away the memory of him, how much she refused to let herself mourn his loss. He’s right there in front of her -- the man who’d carried her out of Malick’s torture chamber on a bum leg and kept vigil as she healed, the man who’d pushed her towards closure with her mother when she needed it most, the man who had appeared in her life and upended it simply by being kind and loyal and supportive in a way that she’s never known another person to be -- and god, she’s missed him.
“Agent Sousa,” she grins, even as traitorous tears threaten to cloud her vision. “Good to see you again.”
He stares at her, slack-jawed for a long moment, saying only her name again, but softer, and that’s when she realizes she’s frozen too, helpless to move at the consoling sight of him. They only startle from their reverie when the third person in the room primly clears her throat.
“Pardon my manners.” Daisy moves past Sousa, hyper-aware of all the places she brushes against him, to finally break his disbelieving gaze and extend her hand. “Agent Daisy Johnson.”
“She’s CIA,” Sousa adds after her, and they both watch Agent Carter bristle a little, so he tacks on: “One of the good ones.”
“Well if Daniel vouches for you, it much be true,” the woman stands and straightens her skirt, still eying Daisy suspiciously as she reaches out her own hand to shake. “Peggy Carter.”
“Of course I know who you are.” This earns Daisy a small frown, so she scrambles to cover. “From Daniel… er, Sousa -- he’s told me all about the great work you guys are doing here.”
Another frown, and a glance at the man behind her. Daisy realizes after the fact that it would make a better compliment if the work they were doing here wasn’t supposed to be top secret.
“Are you alright?” Sousa’s brain starts catching up, and he reaches out, fingertips brushing against her waist, before pulling his hands back just as suddenly. “Is everything okay? How are you….here?”
“I…” Daisy hazards another awkward glance at Agent Carter, who’s looking at her like she just stepped out of a spaceship, which, honestly? Not far off. “It’s kind of a complicated story.”
“I’ll give you two a moment,” the other woman offers, her accent masking politeness over her obvious concern. “Then, Daniel, if you-”
“I know,” he answers, though he never takes his eyes off Daisy. “Of course, I-- thank you, we’ll just be a minute.”
“An honor to meet you, truly,” Daisy stutters as Peggy freakin’ Carter exits with a slightly disapproving eyebrow raised in their direction. Simmons is going to kill her.
Sousa closes the door and turns back to face her slowly, almost like he’s preparing himself to find an empty room. But the second his eyes meet hers, the paralyzing effects of surprise and awkwardness fade and Daisy rushes forward into his arms. Burying her face in his neck and catching the scent of his aftershave, she feels herself relax for the first time in a long time.
“Daisy.” He whispers her name, still sounding just as awed, but this time, it’s for her alone. “I thought… is this real?”
“Yes,” she nods into his shoulder, trying not to let him notice that the word comes out on a sob. “I’m sorry.”
Sorry they made you go. Sorry I wasn’t there to stop them. Sorry there wasn’t time to tell you. Like everything else when it comes to him, the apology is so much and not enough, all at once.
“Don’t be sorry.” He pulls back a little, takes her face in his hands and swipes his thumbs at the tears that are smudging her eyes. “Don’t cry. Please.”
“I woke up and you were gone.” She didn't let herself cry about it at the time, the combination of shock and other distractions keeping her emotions occupied. But every time she came to, alone in that healing chamber, was a fresh wave of heartbreak, and they’re all returning to her now, on a tide of tears. “And I--”
“I didn’t want to go,” Sousa interrupts, reaching down to squeeze her hands in his.
She just nods, still taking in the sight of him. “I know.”
“Why— how are you here now?” His brow furrows and she knows exactly where he’s gone, from shock to worry. “Is everything okay?”
It’s the kind concern in his eyes, the way he’s still steady and supportive, even when she’s dropped in from the future, unannounced, pulling the rug out from under him once again. (If she’s totally honest, it’s also the set of his jaw and the memory of how his chest felt beneath her palms.) Daisy lets herself give in, reaching up for his shirt collar in a familiar movement, and pulls him down to capture his lips. Just like before, he pauses for a second and then gives chase, kissing her back with a passion she thought she’d been exaggerating in her memories.
“Sorry,” she whispers again when they pause for a breath, even though this time she’s really not.
“Please don’t be sorry for that,” he grins, blinking his eyes open slowly. She remembers that soft look of wonder, from a stolen moment when there wasn’t enough time to bask in it.
“I just- We did that once before,” she admits, “back in the time loops. But you didn’t remember.”
“Well, now I’m extra glad you came back, if only to remind me,” he grins, and it makes her want to kiss him all over again. So she does. But he keeps this one quick, pulling back to ask again, “How did you come back? What’s the plan here?”
Daisy doesn’t quite realize what he’s asking at first.
“Fitz knocked off the Chronicom tech and built his own pod,” she answers, fluttering her hand to the side before bringing it back to his lapel. “I’ve got 24 hours before I’ve got to bring it back.”
There’s a question that goes along with her explanation, but she can’t find the words to ask it just yet, not when the answer could break what’s left of her heart. Instead, she tells him the first truth at the front of her mind. “I just missed you.”
“I’ve missed you too,” he answers. His hands are warm around her waist and she has the fleeting thought that it’s been worth it, even if this is all she gets. And then, because she didn’t catch his meaning the first time, because some part of him knows some part of her better than anyone ever has, he just... asks.
“So, can I come back?”
Daisy goes light-headed with possibility. It can’t be this easy. “What?”
“Can I come back with you?” She watches for a joke in his eyes but it’s the same old earnest Sousa. “Will they let me? Will it… end the world?”
“No. I mean, yes. Are you sure?” She’s not even sure if her words are forming coherent sentences. Every relationship in her life has been fraught with conflict and heartbreak, for as long as she can remember -- and this one she just gets to have?
“Yes, I’m sure.” Now the teasing smile makes a hint of an appearance. “I’ve been wondering if you’d come back for me since the minute I woke up back in my old house.”
That confession hits her sideways, just like it had when she asked if he was the type who liked picking other people back up when they fell, and he’d looked into her eyes -- and even deeper -- and answered: “Not for everyone.”
She knows what the longing has been like for her. But she had so much more time with it than he did. They never even came close to defining this...thing, this flint of friction that gives off sparks between them, and still, he’s just been here. Waiting.
“You had goodbyes you wanted to say, loose ends,” she recalls, trying to clear the whiplash from her mind. The last thing she wants is for him to take the leap and regret it halfway down.
She shuffles a small step back, but unwilling to completely lose contact, takes one of his hands in her own, studying it intently as she offers him the easy out.
“Daisy.” Sousa lets out a little humorless laugh. “You know they had to knock me out to send me back, right?”
She didn’t know that, actually, and her fists start to clench in an instinctive response. But he eases them open, drawing her gently back towards him, and she follows.
“My loose ends aren’t in the past anymore,” he says softly, rubbing a thumb over the pulse point at her wrist. “I came back and I made my peace -- said what I needed to say to the people that needed to hear it.”
He glances towards at the door -- she’d known that one of those conversations was always meant for Peggy Carter -- and then back at her, and she believes him. Somehow she trusted him from the beginning, even when she had little more than his name and photo on an old S.H.I.E.L.D. file, and she trusts him now more than ever, even as a tiny bit of skepticism is still warring with her hopeful heart.
“But your team. The underground S.H.I.E.L.D. force. That’s you, isn’t it? You and Carter?”
“It is. And a few others. They’re gonna do good work, I know it.” She nods a confirmation. They will. “But I built it so I can lift right out. They’re a well-oiled machine already. Plus, everyone already figures my days are numbered.”
He’s been planning for this. For her. Of all the possible outcomes, she hadn’t even thought to hope for one where he was waiting with his bags packed, metaphorical or otherwise. He’s a constant surprise and it makes her heart leap to dangerous places every time.
“I went back to work because I’m devoted to the cause,” Sousa continues, “but if you think I haven’t spent every free moment trying to figure a way back to you, thinking about what I’d do if I saw you again...”
“Daniel...” There isn’t much more to say but his name, and even that’s difficult when her throat is thick with emotion.
“Unless you don’t want me to.” He saves her again, breaking the heavy moment by teasing her some more.
“Of course I do,” Daisy answers, swiping under her eyes. “But I’m gonna ask if you're sure a couple hundred more times.”
He nods, lips pursed. “My answer won’t change.”
“Okay, but we do have some time,” she reminds him with a nervous laugh, even as she’s starting to have faith in his certainty. “You want to sleep on it? Get some dinner or something?”
He grins even wider. “Yeah, you know, pizza sounds good. Your place? In about sixty years?”
She rolls her eyes at him, achingly grateful for even the hint of their familiar dynamic amid all this intensity. “All right, all right, old man. I get it.”
“Do you?”
“Yeah, I do.” She reaches up to soothe her thumb over the crinkle beside his eye, another tiny detail she’s spent the last few months missing. “But you can keep reminding me.”
He catches her hand, pressing a kiss to her palm and promising, “I can do that.”
She takes a deep breath as he gathers his suit jacket from the back of the chair. Here goes everything. It’s not until they turn to leave that she realizes.
“Do you need to…”
He’s a little solemn when he catches her meaning, but she’s surprised when it doesn’t make her worry. “Give me just a moment with Peggy, and I’ll meet you…”
“In the alleyway,” she finishes. “I came in through the storage room.”
He nods, and tugs her close for a hard and fast kiss to her lips that has her still dazed when she grasps for the door handle.
To Agent Carter’s credit, she only looks slightly impatient when Daisy exits, pursing her lips as she brushes past her in the narrow hallway, unsure of what else to do or say. There’s an echoing silence that borders on uncomfortable, and then the other woman speaks.
“He’s been different lately,” she offers softly, like a secret, before she’s close enough for Sousa to hear, and Daisy stops in her tracks.
“I thought it was the obvious. I got the sense he was weighing his days after nearly dying. But he’s been waiting for you, hasn’t he?”
Daisy nods, sheepishly, turning back to meet eyes that impossibly seem to already know what’s about to happen. “To be fair,” she answers, truthfully, “I was waiting for him, too.”
The S.H.I.E.L.D. founder gives her a small smile then, and to her surprise, it’s one she recognizes from the mirror. It’s genuine, but sad, and Daisy feels it even deeper because she knows that an affection for the kind and loyal man waiting on them both isn’t the only emotional baggage they have in common. (A very small, very selfish part of her counts her blessings, though, that the other woman hadn’t been able to love Sousa the way he deserves.)
She nods in return, and makes her way back down the hallway, back through the cluttered room, back out to the alley, and back to where she first landed, where she ends up standing, waiting, twisting her hands nervously for the second time in just a few hours. But before she even has long enough to start worry that he’s having second thoughts, Daniel rounds the corner with a suitcase in hand and a grin on his face she wants to remember forever.
“You’re ready?” she asks. He nods, never breaking his stride or her gaze. “You’re sure?”
“I told you,” he assures, pressing a kiss to her forehead, “my answer’s not changing.”
“And Carter?” She takes his hand to step him back against the building, away from where their portal might appear. It’s only partially a distraction from an nerves that might be lingering on her face.
“She understands.” Sousa laces their fingers together and squeezes. “And I may have told her there’s a chance I could pop back around someday, if she needs me.”
He’s not totally out of line. Fitz had warned that the tech was to be used for emergencies only, but Simmons will surely convince him that anything involving Peggy Carter constitutes a proper emergency.
“She doesn’t seem like someone who would be very supportive of a team member jumping ship mid-mission,” Daisy observes, aiming for casual, as she uncloaks the device, which is, thankfully, right where she left it. “Pun not intended.”
“She’s not, usually. But I told her the truth.” A spark of fear lights inside her chest, but he puts it out immediately. “Just enough of it. I trust her.”
“Well, if there’s anyone who can keep a secret...”
Daniel ducks his head in agreement and adds softly, “And then... I asked her if there was anything she wouldn’t do, to have more time.”
There it is again, that cymbal crash of her heart that takes her breath away. Daisy’s never known a man like this, and while she knows the future is always uncertain, she’s grateful to the abstract laws of time, science, fate and whatever else that she doesn’t have to lose him to the past.
“So, where are we headed?” Daniel follows her into the booth with a hand at the small of her back. It’s a bit of a tighter fit than her arrival trip, but neither of them mind in the slightest.
“If the wind is right, English countryside, 2020,” she answers with a grin. It’s a bit of luck that threading her arms around his neck allows her to kiss him and press the button on her wrist at the same time.
“We’re going home, Agent Sousa.”
Love Persevered
Also on AO3
It's not S.W.O.R.D that ends up with Vision's body, it's S.H.I.E.L.D, and a miracle happens when Wanda goes to collect his body.
Wanda Maximoff had heard of S.H.I.E.L.D. Of course she had - she had heard many, many things about them during her time with HYDRA. How evil they were, for standing in the way of greatness, of glory...
When she’d heard about the real S.H.I.E.L.D from Clint and Natasha, she was almost disappointed she never got the chance to work with them. Nick Fury and Phil Coulson sounded like better people than the monsters that had tortured her and Pietro and brainwashed them into doing their bidding.
She shuddered a little, striding into S.H.I.E.L.D’s headquarters. It was smaller than she would have anticipated an organization of its caliber being, but Wanda supposed, after all the damage that had been caused after the Blip and other issues leading up to it, she should be grateful the organization existed at all.
What she was worried about was why they were the ones that had Vision’s body. Yes, he had been listed on the Wall of Heroes, and she was very grateful for it, but why hadn’t he been buried? Why hadn’t he gotten what Tony Stark had?
It was up to her to give it to him.
“Can I help you?”
“I’m Wanda Maximoff. I’m here for Vision’s - I - I’m here for Vis - ” she’d tried to steal her nerves, tried to come to grips with what she was asking for, but the words just wouldn’t come out. “Please. I know he’s here.”
The woman behind the desk gave her a sad, understanding smile as she picked up the phone. “Director, Wanda Maximoff is here.” A pause. “Yes sir,” she put the phone back down and turned back to Wanda. “Director Mackenzie will be waiting for you on the third floor at the end of the hall. Just use those doors. Elevator is on your right.”
Wanda blinked in surprise. It would be that easy? Really? Normally with government agencies there was a host of red tape she needed to cut through. But maybe S.H.I.E.L.D understood she wasn’t here to fight, or even talk. She was just here to give Vision the goodbye he deserved.
“Thank you,” she managed to choke out, before rushing through the doors and up to the third floor as directed.
“Hello Miss Maximoff. I’m Director Alphonso Mackenzie. Welcome to S.H.I.E.L.D.”
“Wanda, and thank you. Can I see him?”
“Of course, right this way.”
He pushed the door behind him open, allowing Wanda to step through into what she could only describe as a lab. On a table, covered in a white sheet, was what she assumed was Vision. However, she was more concerned with the people that were standing nearby, looking at records and computer screens.
“Who are they?” she heard herself ask sharply.
“Fitz,” the one woman said, pointing at the man next to her.
“Simmons,” the man said, pointing at the woman who had first spoken.
The second woman rolled her eyes, holding out her hand. “I’m Daisy.”
Wanda shook it suspiciously. “What were you doing with Vision?”
“We… were hoping to give you some options, Wanda,” Mack began. “S.H.I.E.L.D has been able to create androids called Life-Model Decoys, or LMD’s. They’re essentially reconstructions of people. Originally, they were intended to be used as shields to protect our agents, but there were a couple of extenuating circumstances.”
Wanda furrowed her brow. “And that means…?”
“We created decoys to… essentially resurrect the dead just… not in their original bodies,” Fitz said. “Jemma, Daisy, and I were making a map of Vision, in case you decided you wanted one of him.”
Wanda felt her heart stop. She must have been dreaming, right?
“You would… bring him back?” she choked out over the lump in her throat. God, she did not want to hope, but it was so, so tempting. “What - what’s the catch?”
“There is no catch,” Simmons answered this time. “I swear on my cottage in Perthshire.”
“Why do you want to help me?” Wanda had done so many terrible things to so many people. Why would a government organization want to help her now?
“Because S.H.I.E.L.D believes in helping people, and that no one should be alone. But at the end of the day, this decision is up to you,” Daisy said. “As his next of kin, this decision is yours alone.”
She could have him back.
Wanda had not dared to hope for such a thing. But she could have him back. These people - a group that Clint and Natasha trusted - were giving her a second chance she wasn’t sure she deserved.
Still, she looked suspiciously at the scientists in front of her. “Would he be the same Vision I fell in love with?” she asked.
“We can replicate his personality and his appearance, yes. He would no longer be considered a synthezoid, however. He would be an android. We’ve also never created an LMD of a synthezoid, so we don’t know for sure if he’d still have his powers, but… otherwise, he would act and look just the same as you knew him,” Fitz confirmed. “He will have all of his memories of you as well.”
Wanda was shaking now, and her knees buckled. If Mack hadn’t been right next to her, she knew she would have fully collapsed to the black tiles below her.
“Do it,” she gasped, nodding once. “Please. Bring him back to me.”
“It will take a few days,” Mack said, helping to steady her. “You’re welcome to stay here if you don’t have a hotel or anything else.”
The dam broke, tears racing down her cheeks. “Thank you. You don’t know how much this means to me.” She rubbed her eyes. “Can I have a minute alone with him before you start?”
“Of course.”
The scientists and director stepped out of the room, the door clicking shut softly behind them.
She rubbed her eye against the sleeve of her sweater again, swallowing back a wave of nausea as she peeled the sheet back.
He looked as she remembered. That was good. Part of her had been worried that any government agency would dissect Vision, or worse - try to turn him on their side, but it seemed S.H.I.E.L.D wasn’t like the others.
She was so glad he’d ended up in their hands.
“I’m sorry there wasn’t any other way…” she whispered, hovering a shaking hand over where the Mind Stone should have been. “I can’t feel - ”
Wait.
Wanda paused, frozen over Vision’s form.
She felt something. It was faint, so very, very faint, but it was there.
It was him.
“Vision?” her voice cracked. “Vision, can you hear me?”
If he could, he didn’t respond, but that little flicker of feeling meant that… maybe this body could be saved.
“Director!” she called.
Mack was in the room in a second. “Wanda? What’s the matter?”
“I - I think Vision is still alive.” It was a sentence she didn’t think she would say after the battle with Thanos.
“Tremors! Fitzsimmons! We may be on a resuscitation job instead of an LMD job!”
The scientists rushed into the room, their eyes wide as they rushed to the computer and monitors.
“My God,” Simmons murmured, turning to Wanda. “Did you… happen to use your magic at all while you were alone?”
Wanda swallowed thickly. “I… yeah, a little bit. It’s something I used to do with him.”
“We registered a trace amount of energy when we brought him in, but we couldn’t place where it came from. Only that it was partially found in space. That same energy was picked up by our computer when you were in here. You were the one to originally - ”
“Yes, I was,” Wanda interrupted, not wanting the word spoken. “What does that mean?”
“It means Simmons and I can repair Vision’s body, and you can repair his mind,” Fitz concluded. “Some of the more… mechanical pieces of him began to deteriorate over the last five years. I can upgrade that, but we’ll need your energy to… bring him back online.”
“I - I can’t - that’s not how - ”
“Wanda,” Daisy said firmly, and Wanda turned to her with wide eyes. “I know how you feel. You don’t feel strong enough, or powerful enough, right?”
Wanda nodded a little.
“My sister thought the same. She has powers too - so do I. She was asked to do something she never thought possible with her gifts.”
“What’s that?”
“Bring me back to life.”
Wanda thought the breath was knocked out of her as she stared at the agent in front of her. “You - you died too? And - and you were brought back?”
Daisy nodded. “My sister and I are known as Inhumans. Kora has energy manipulation. She managed to manipulate my life energy after I was - literally - floating in space without any protection. You said you felt a flicker of Vision?”
“Yes.”
“Then you need to focus on that feeling and fight like hell to bring him back.”
Wanda took a deep breath, all of it overwhelming. She’d thought she would be coming in here to claim VIsion’s corpse and take him to be buried. Now here she was… potentially bringing him back. Small as it was, she knew she couldn’t turn it down, so she nodded.
“Okay. I’m ready.”
“Fitz and I will begin the repairs right away,” Simmons said, giving Wanda a kind smile. “You can wait in the hallway. We’ll let you know when we’re ready for your powers.”
“I’ll wait with her,” Daisy offered, leading her back out into the hallway.
“I’ll leave you all too it. Call me if there’s an emergency,” Mack said. “It was nice to meet you, Wanda.”
Wanda nodded, sitting on a bench with Daisy. Was this what it was like when someone was in a hospital waiting room, waiting for news about their loved one’s surgery? That must have been what this felt like.
There was a comfortable silence between her and Daisy, as Daisy quietly tapped on her phone and the muffled sounds of machinery whirred behind the lab doors.
“What was it like?” she choked out, wanting an escape from the sounds.
Daisy looked at her in surprise. “What?”
“Your… dying. What was it like?”
“Oh.” Daisy paused, slipping her phone into her pocket before she leaned back on the bench. “Well… we were fighting this guy named Malick. He had inhuman powers like my sister and I, and he managed to pin me against this… energy thing. We planned for this. For my to - to sacrifice myself. So I managed to grab him, look him right in the eye, and just let out the strongest attack I could. The last thing I remember was everything exploding around me… and then it went dark. Empty… until Kora brought me back.”
“Is that what Vision’s feeling now? Empty?” she whispered. “Has he felt this for five years?”
“It’s hard to say. But I know you shouldn’t dwell on it, Wanda. Just focus on him. On your future.”
“Westview…” she said softly, a sad smile on her face. “Vision bought a plot of land. We were supposed to build a house there. ‘To grow old in’.”
Daisy smiled. “I think that sounds sweet. Hold on to that. Focus on that when you’re doing your magic, or whatever it is.”
Wanda nodded, her hands shaking. “I can’t believe it’s real. Now that I actually have time to think - I was afraid I was going to be alone forever. The other Avengers went home to their families but I - I don’t have anyone. I thought I was coming in here to retrieve a corpse… and now I might be walking out of here with the man I love.”
“You will be. Fitz and Simmons are the smartest people I know. They will work until their fingers fall off to bring Vision back to you.”
“She’s right about that. They’re the ones who brought me back.” This voice was new, and Wanda jumped slightly as she turned to it.
“A.C! I didn’t know you were coming in today. How was Miami?” Daisy asked.
“Humid. Wasn’t so easy on my circuitry,” the man replied, glancing over at Wanda. “You must be Wanda Maximoff. I’m Phil Coulson.”
She blinked, rising to her feet. “Clint and Natasha told me you were dead.”
“I am. Well - my body is. I’m an LMD. Did they explain to you what your option was with Vision?” Coulson asked.
“They did but… I think we can bring him back, just as he is. Your associates are repairing his body now.”
Coulson’s eyes widened. “Oh - well, that’s surprising. But good. We weren’t sure, which is why S.H.I.E.L.D offered you an LMD of him.”
“It’s very appreciated, Agent Coulson.” Wanda picked at the hem of her sleeve. “Do they know you’re alive?”
“Who?”
“Clint, Thor or Bruce. They were part of the original Avengers, right? Do they know about your… new form?”
Coulson hesitated. “No. I was kept in the shadows, and then it’s been a little nuts the last five years.”
She pressed her lips together. “I think you should tell them. I mean, the rules are being bent all over the place now, right? They would be happy to know your consciousness is still alive. Clint especially. He - he told me he still has regrets over what happened with Loki.”
A look of guilt crossed Coulson’s face. “I see. I’ll contact them, then. Thank you for letting me know. Do you mind if I wait with you and Daisy?”
She shook her head. “Maybe you can tell me about what Clint and Natasha were like when they worked here.”
Coulson laughed. “Oh, I have a few stories about that.”
It was hours later before Simmons poked her head out of the lab. “You can come in now, Wanda.”
Vision was still purple and lifeless, but his skull looked good as new. She could see the reinforcements that had been made to the non-organic parts of his body too, and smiled in relief.
Now came the tricky part.
“Whenever you’re ready,” Fitz said, a tablet in his hand.
Wanda nodded, stepping up to VIsion. She placed her hand over his head where the stone should have been and focused on everything she loved about him. About the future they’d tried to build. About the future they would build, when he came back to her.
“I can feel you, Vision,” she whispered. “Please… come back.”
She watched as the energy in her hand suddenly turned yellow - the Mind Stone! - and poured into Vision’s skull. The color began to return to him, and finally, those blue eyes opened.
“Wanda?” he asked.
“Vision?”
He sat up, holding his head. “What happened? Where’s Thanos? Are we still in Wakanda?”
“Thanos is gone. We’re safe now. We’re at S.H.I.E.L.D headquarters,” she explained.
“S.H.I.E.L.D. Yes, I recall stories about them.” He paused, data downloading in his mind. “Ah, yes, I see. And you took custody of my body because of my connection to the Avengers?”
“That’s correct. Agent Coulson here was one of the founding members of the Avengers initiative,” Daisy explained.
“And you died, but apparently returned as well. It is comforting to know I’m not the only person to return from death,” Vision said.
“Everything seems to be stable with you, Vision. How are you feeling?”
Vision hopped off the table, testing a few of his abilities quickly. “I feel brand new. Thank you Dr. Simmons.”
“Then I clear you for discharge,” Simmons smiled, holding out a card. “If you need anything, S.H.I.E.L.D will be at your call.”
Wanda leaned against Vision. “Thank you for being so kind… for doing all of this for me.”
“You’re welcome,” Daisy said. “Good luck in Westview.”
“I quite liked them,” Vision said as they got into her car. “Did you know Agent Coulson used to have hair?”
Wanda chuckled softly, switching the car on and pulling out onto the busy street. “It’s not hard to imagine. Human men go bald sometimes. I guess Coulson just got unlucky genes.”
“What do you suppose I would look like bald? As a human, I mean. I know I’m… quite bald in this form.” He patted his own head for emphasis.
“I don’t know. But I think we have all the time in the world to find out.”
Vision smiled. “Yes, we do. Westview awaits.”
They drove off into the sunset, and the promise of tomorrow.
sharing a short dousy video edit i made.
i don't know why but i really like this and thought i'd share it on here too.
should i rant about what goes in my head while making this video? no. will i? yes.
basically the song is beginning middle end by leah nobel from to all the boys i've loved before part 3. this song is basically about two people falling in love from the early years of their lives. since lara jean and peter met when they were kids. but then started (fake) dating in high school and their adventure together started right then and there. anyway, watch the movies if you haven't already. this song fits lara jean and peter so well (i don't know if it was written specifically for them or not).
but daisy and sousa didnt meet when they were kids because of one obvious reason: when daisy was a kid, sousa's dead; and when sousa was a kid, daisy hadn't been born yet. they weren't supposed to meet. so their journey started off separately.
daisy's beginning in shield was rocky, to say the least. but she found a home there with coulson, fitzsimmons and may (i'll get to ward) in season 1. they bonded quite quickly, mainly daisy skye and coulson. i think it shifts when she got shot by ian quinn. everyone in the team, especially ward was terrified and angry at the situation. now. she had a relationship with miles early on in the season, which was broken off. but within the context of the song, her beginning was ward. he was her s.o. she was falling for him when she uncovered that he's hydra. add that trauma to the ones she already had prior to shield. no wonder she has trust issues.
her middle was her powers. even though the story started early in the series, it's still the middle. because she struggled with her powers throughout seasons 2 - 5. the middle would always be the bulk of it all. it's where everything happens. it's the crux of a character, of a person. it's where daisy became daisy. now, in the middle of her middle (pun very much intended), was lincoln. the first inhuman who helped her and understood her. i'm sure they've got their own problems and everything, but it doesn't change the fact that he was someone who knew what she's going through. none of her found family could help her the way he could. this is where i think it gets interesting. seasons 2 - 5, where i said was her middle, and basically the peak/climax of daisy as a character, she was falling for and fell for lincoln. it was known that daisy was still in love with lincoln in season 5. possibly around 2 years after he died. but then we found out that she had moved on from lincoln in the beginning of season 6.
season 6 and 7 is the end of her journey with the team. they're still a family. just a family who occassionally see each other. now in season 6, like i mentioned previously, it was acknowledged that daisy had moved on. the past will always be with her, no doubt. the trauma would stick. hopefully just bits and pieces. but it would still be there until she either had alzheimer's, dementia, any other retrograde amnesia injuries or diseases, or the day she died. she would never forget lincoln or ward, heck even miles. she won't forget her past. unless it was taken away from her. so, back to the topic at hand, she wanted her own fitz. she had grown from the woman she was in the beginning, she had grown from the woman and superhero that she was in the middle. she knows who she is now. with the people she worked with. and the people she calls her family. and also with anyone. daisy's ending was perfect (to me at least). she wasn't looking for love right then and there. she was burnt one too many times. but she wanted that kind of love and support. the love and support that fitz and simmons have for each other. something that daisy lacked all her life. she ended up with someone who gave her what she wanted. and what she needed.
with sousa, it's a little different. because we didn't get to see much of his background and family life. we didn't get to know what his life was like during the war and before the war. we begin to see him in the ssr. we all knew, literally everyone knew, even the characters knew that sousa's practically in love with peggy. except for maybe peggy herself. but i'm sure she had an inkling. she definitely had an inkling. but then things go on and he became chief of the west coast office and he was in los angeles while peggy was in new york. he moved on (or so we thought). he started dating violet and was ready to marry her. he told her he loved her. and he did. it's just that he was also in love with peggy. still. and violet saw that. it's as clear as day. and they broke it off.
we didn't get to see much of sousa's middle. mainly because ac wasn't renewed for a third season. which was such a waste because it ended with so many things left unanswered. but we know that between 1947 - 1955, peggy and sousa broke up. we have no idea why. we don't know if steve was back. nada. all we know is that they broke up. when did they break up? again. no idea. but we know that peggy means a lot to sousa. she's like (sorta; i don't like making comparisons but anyway) sousa's lincoln in a way (i'm not saying that they're the exact replica. daisy/lincoln and peggy/sousa are quite different. but they do have similarities. those pairings are the kind where they want to be together forever but knew that it wouldn't work; my interpretation). she didn't die, we know that. but she's sort of the one that got away. my guess is that it's because shield and the world was more important than each other. which wasn't dissimilar to daisy and lincoln's situation. so, yes. peggy's sousa's middle. she influenced him a lot. and he found himself amidst ssr and shield (just like daisy did).
sousa's end was again, perfect. he went to the future. got to see what the organisation he helped build came to be. he went on an adventure to explore space. which he would geek out over. instead of dying, he got to live. with the love of his (new) life. he may be a man out of time, but with daisy and their ragtag family, he is right where he belongs.
daisy and sousa began with "who the hell are you" and ended with "it's beautiful" (just putting this here because i love that fact).
so. they started pretty quickly, didn't they? 4 episodes in and sousa fell in love with daisy. 7 episodes in and daisy fell in love with sousa. though i doubt that they thought they're in love. but they're falling. or walking towards it. 7x03 was when they met. it's where it all began. in area 51 of all places (foreshadow much?). but what's even more interesting is that technically, they began twice. from daisy's perspective, they met in 6x13 (which plenty of people had pointed out; but @agents-of-fangirling was the most recent). even though they didn't actually meet because sousa was wearing that blue (seriously his colour really is blue) hazmat suit and daisy was disoriented (may dying and all that jazz). but from sousa's perspective, they met in 7x03. where they actually made eye contact and conversed. how many couples can say that the when of their first encounter was debatable?
now. their middle, in the video edit, i used the scene from 7x10. because i think that's a pretty good middle. they had their first first kiss. sousa had no idea that happened. yet, there he was, wanting to help. just like his time-loop self. he extended a hand and she accepted. she accepted help. do you know how much of a development that was??? because i think that it's a huge character development (i still haven't rewatched so don't take my word for it). i think that's a good depiction of their middle. oh yeah. before i forgot. they also had two first kisses. and again, i say, how many couples can say that they had two first kiss? figured i'd choose the scene in the middle of those first kisses (pun intended lmao).
sidenote: did y'all see the devastation in her eyes when sousa volunteered to stay in the 80s? or how her eyes went wide and she started to panic when he was injected in the time loops? sousa's a man of action. and when he says something, he means it. so, his constant concern over daisy and him wanting to help in any way he can, it's his love language.
and then we have their ending. the perfect end to an imperfect couple (because nobody's perfect *cue hannah montana*). daisy got sousa a typewriter. because he's from the 50s. since when did daisy buy gifts for her boyfriends/partners/lovers? and they watched e.t. together? that's normal couple things. even though they are far from normal. but they get to experience it all together. daisy didn't get to in the past. none that we know of anyway. and now she does. also, that smile when she talks about him. that fond smile that grazed her lips at the thought of him. i've never seen her smile like that before (none that i remember; and if she did, well then i'm so so happy for her). she looks happy. serene. and her saying "he's a dork" twice in the season just makes my heart burst with happiness for them.
sidenote: my headcannon is that "he's a dork" is code for "i love him too much to explain it in words."
i'd like to believe that even though it has ended, their story has just begun. they're going through their middle right now. and i hope that they won't end. in other words, their end was not an ending. it was a beginning of a new life.
as daisy said, "we're loving the journey together." keyword: journey. it's a long road up ahead. with countless of challenges and obstacles in the way. but in the end, all that matters is that they face it together.
that's it. thanks for coming to my ted talk (for those who actually read it all the way through, i love you).
#watch the video til the very end😉#dousy#i know nobody's gonna read this#but i needed to hash it out#😬😬#character analysis#sort of#relationship analysis#🥺👉👈#sorry for the long ass post#like seriously long#i set out to write a quick lil paragraph and ended up writing an essay
Finale Predictions
Well guys, it's been quite the ride and here we are ready for the finale. First and foremost I have to thank you all for sticking with me over the years. Sending the asks, supporting the theories, dealing with my sometimes crazy metas and predictions, that sometimes hit and sometimes didn’t. And trusting me to be the Fandom Mom.
As is now an annual tradition I’m putting up my post of Finale Predictions before going dark until after the finale airs. This is for fun as I always like to see how well I did. Please no pitchforks if I am wrong on any of these.
So here we go:
Everyone’s favorite villains, Nathaniel, Kora, and SIBYL will all make it to the finale while Garrett will be killed or locked up by the end of the first hour (and it will use some of Fitz’s tech).
SIBYL will eventually get herself a new body.
Nathaniel will turn on Kora and try to take her powers and/or kill her.
Kora has already turned on him and he/we just don’t know it yet. Either betrays him and helps her sister or tries to kill him herself in revenge for her mother. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.
Daisy will be the one to end Nathaniel and it will be oh so satisfying giant fight scene….even if we have to wait until the second hour for it. Bonus points if Sousa get a hit in first too
Coulson, May, and Elena are able to get to space thanks to Coulson’s new computer Genius Super Power OR Garrett is ordered to bring them so they can lord their victory over them all.
Even though they have pretty much ended Shield and Hydra in the “hot mess” timeline SIBYL and Nathaniel set their sites on the OG Timeline and/or Fitz once they realize he has come into the mix and ruins their plans in the hot mess timeline.. As they are both aware he is the one who ends their little party.
The Chronicoms will not all be super thrilled with what SIBYL has been up too or her methods. This could be another thing that drives SIBYL into the OG Timeline.
The battle between SIBYL and Coulson seems to have gotten a bit more personal so my money is on Coulson being the one to take her down. Close second goes to May and Fitzsimmons.
Diana didn’t only block Memories of Fitz it took out the memories of people associated with him. IE she is not going to remember her friends or Deke.
Deke will earn her trust quickly and be an A+ overprotective grandson of his Nana as they are rescued and get back to the team.
The team will rescue Deke and Jemma, take out a few Chronicoms, and Independence Day their way out of there.
While it won’t be the romantic Philinda some fans want we will see some quality Philinda banter over the finale as it seems they’ve settled into a good place between the two. Coulson has also passed the torch of “team parent” onto her.
Philinda will not end as a couple.
At some point Sousa is really going to question what is going on and his life choices. AKA He looks around stunned at what is going on.
More quality Dousy flirting and banter….they will kiss again and I do see them being a couple when things end.
Fitzsimmons family feels just a lot of them over the whole finale. Iain and Elizabeth are going to murder us with feels. I mean Fitz with his little girl. I shall perish.
Despite not knowing everyone Jemma is going to be super insistent on building or activating a device (that has been stashed on the Zephyr) that she doesn’t know what it does but just knows she needs to build and activate it. She will be the only one who can activate it and possibly it will take something very personal of hers to turn it on. IE how she was hiding Fitz’s ring/necklace in Season 6 she might have the key hiding again. But lets all freak out that Jemma will literally be the key to getting Fitz.
We won’t see Fitz until near the end of 12 if he is not the cliffhanger.
That Bar place in the promo pics is either Keonig’s Bar or the Playground of the hot mess Timeline. Seems to be some sort of secret Shield Base or what is left of them after the big attack as there are some random Shield agents milling/wth/who are these people in the background. We know The Playground was off the books in the OG Timeline and would make sense it was also in the Hot mess.
Jemma will have her memory resorted relatively quickly after Fitz Kool Aid Man’s in all Star Lord from the portal thing Jemma activates. And it’ll be the freaking power of her love for Fitz/her Family that overloads her (Gimme my Framework fix here). Or Fitzsimmons have a fail safe password. BUT GIMME TRUE LOVE.
CUE THE SECRET CHILD REVEAL!!!!!!!!!! Yes, I will be screaming. The team will be stunned.
I’m sticking to my theory that they will give their daughter a “celestial” or astronomical name to pay off “One of these days we’ll find something magnificent out in space,” thing from Season 3 (especially if she was conceived on the way back from Kitson). Or a name that is very reflective of their Scottish/English roots.
Everyone needs to hold onto their hats because once Jemma has her memories back it will be because they are gonna want to get home to their Little Girl like yesterday and have one hell of a plan that involves saving the world and taking care of Nathaniel, SIBYL, and the Season 6 Finale attack on the Lighthouse.
This is likely where a ton of the Flashbacks come in.
Where has Fitz been? He’s been back in our OG Timeline. The finale confirmation for me came last week when Nathaniel revealed that SIBYL’s time stream couldn’t see him….or their daughter, and that thing sees EVERYTHING in the HOT MESS Timeline. This would also be why Jemma’s messages didn’t reach him, she couldn’t get them to cross into the OG Timeline and this was something she would have known but Diana blocked as part of hiding where Fitz was.
How has Fitz been watching the Chronicoms? Insert incredibly complicated timey whimy thing the writers came up with that me and my Marketing degree can not fathom so just go with it okay, via the using the Framework in the OG Timeline to get into the Chronicom’s system. Little pay back for what SIBYL has been doing in the Hot Mess Timeline. Him being connected to the Framework explains why he was so exposed. Because when someone is hooked up to that thing they can get their heads cut off and not know it.
Now reunited and having dropped the baby announcement Fitzsimmons will present the plan for the “Final Mission” the team must embark on to save the world….again.
And oh baby is it complicated.
Part of said plan will have them back at the Lighthouse during the Chronicom attack.
The dudes that showed up with Jemma at the Temple will be explained. IE I think its some of the team and they cleared out of the Zephyr before the time travel party got started. They also may have grabbed other hunks of the monoliths.
The fight will take place in both the Hot Mess and OG Timelines
We have not seen the last of the Monoliths. The fact we are jumping timelines and have Flint in the mix over in the OG timeline makes me think they are gonna need Mr. Swirly’s help in doing said jumping (Mr. Swirly is the Grey Monolith). Or they really go with the OG and its Harold (Black Space one) that allows for it. Kind of fitting the Monolith that tore Fitzsimmons apart is now the one that reunites them.
We will for sure see Enoch (via Flashback), Davis (please not by Flashback #davislivesagain), Piper and Flint as returning Favorites.
If they have Davis back to life I just gesture exhaustedly at the Monoliths again. Not even gonna try to explain it.
Small chance we run into the Hot Mess’s Timeline Enoch but he will have no relationship or connection to the team and will make me cry.
Top Picks for SURPRISE not on the Press Release faces to pop up if we get them: Ward (I mean really how have we not seen him again yet), Mace, Robbie, Bobbi, Hunter, Koenig (any of them) and Mike. REALLY WANT IT BUT WON”T GET IT! Dadcliffe
Who was keeping Fitzsimmons Daughter safe:
Top Pick: Piper and Flint: Given Fitzsimmons would have run into them picking up the Zephyr and they could have been the “we had help” they talked about.
Second Place Because I Badly want him back: Uncle Enoch 2.0
Left Field Surprise Option: Huntingbird
LOLA RETURNS
We will get a lot of really fun callbacks to past stories or even lines IE “I’m just the Pilot” For May.
“What We Are Fighting For”: Family. The team family….and the Fitzsimmons family. Also they will have gone 13/13 in that someone will say the titles name at some point in the episode.
We will see old weapons and tech from previous seasons make one last appearance, we’ve seen 2 so far in promos and will see more.
Shotgun Axe gets a proper send off in battle (this one is for Kiddo 3)
Bear will deliver the most amazing soundtrack that we’ll never get to buy.
Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story (Sorry Couldn’t Resist)
Nathaniel: Dies, and we will all cheer.
SIBYL: Dies, and we will all cheer.
Garrett: Dies or locked up, won’t make it to the second hour.
Kora: Toss a coin. If she dies she killed for trying to take down Nathaniel. If in her betrayal of Nathaniel she helps Daisy get Jemma and Deke back that could be a good starting place for the sisters to work thing out. Starting place, she has a long way to go to get in good with Daisy and setting up an 11th hour redemption arc.
Mack: Still so nervous for him based on how he has been in interviews, especially the SDCC ones last year. He was so clearly upset by it. So Mack either falls or does something so out of character (Bails before the finale battle which just is not making sense to me Mack is in such a good place right now) for Mack that Henry was upset by it. Essentially I am very confused because what I am seeing on screen now isn’t matching with how Henry was talking as Mack has really come around since his Endgame stage.
Elena: Easily lives. If Mack doesn’t die, wherever he lands she’ll be with him. They’ve been a steady ship all season and I see no reason for them to break up outside of death. And while I have a mountain of concerns for Mack, I have none for Elena.. I also see her still being a presence within Shield, she’s become a good solid agent, and bonus points if she keeps Flint with her….and he gets all the tacos he wants.
Sousa: Totally lives (they might give us a good fake out though because he and Daisy are becoming a thing)I can still see him being Director of Shield if Mack falls or steps down. He’s a good Agent in a new time but he said he is right where he is supposed to be, at Daisy’s side. Where she goes he goes. IE he’s not letting her get away and will always be there after she runs into a wall. So if Daisy leaves Shield, so will he. If she stays so will he. If she opens a coffee bar he’ll learn to make an espresso.
Daisy: Totally Lives, but there will be something about her ending that some fans won’t like and some fans are going to love. Staying with Shield or no whatever she does will involve Inhumans be it the Secret Warriors are up and running again, she is mentoring and training new Inhumans coming into Shield, or my favorite option still is she reopens Afterlife. I’ve been feeling that option for most of the Season and feel like it was really set up with Jaiying as was Daisy looking out for her little sister should the chips fall the right way. The SS Dousy will be sailing right along. IF Kora survives I can see her being in Afterlife as well, Daisy taking her mother’s passion that Kora has a good heart to heart herself.
Deke: Okay this one is weird because I feel like we are going to lose him somehow, but he won’t die. I didn’t get the vibe from Jeff, Elizabeth, or Iain that he died and those three are pretty tight. However, in that I don’t think I’m going to get my Fitzsimmons Family all settling down in a giant castle in Scotland together. They set up for him to make a sacrifice, he’s grown, and has something he’s really truly fighting for. I have loved seeing how close he and Jemma have gotten and how fiercely he’s protected her and her secret. Even in the face of torture he didn’t betray her. It will come as no surprise if he doesn’t sacrifice himself somehow. Either in taking a hit for his family or doing something similar to what he did in Season 5 to make sure they got home. Bringing things full circle. He also expressed that he wouldn’t mind being stuck in the hot mess timeline in ‘83. He built himself a nice life there and Nathaniel did a pretty good job of taking out Hydra...with just a bit of Shield hanging on. So if it comes down to it I don’t see him minding if he gets stuck there. Sure him saying goodbye to Nana and Bobo is gonna hurt like Hades but if he ends up alive, I’m good.
Fitzsimmons: Both live, yes they will scare the crap out of us more than a few times especially after we know about the daughter, but they will live. Totally peace out, we’ve done our time, leaving Shield with the adorable daughter and its Perthshire or Bust. They’ve sacrificed enough and will not be willing to risk it again.
May: Lives and reminds us all that she is one hell of a pilot. If Mack decides he wants to step down, dies, whatever I’ll throw her back in contention for Director, especially as I see Sousa Following Daisy if she leaves. Coulson seemed to have set her on that path and at the very least passed the “Team Parent” torch onto her, that it would be her job to give the Coulson talks to those who needed it. If she’s not Director, she’ll be whomever is right hand, or I still have that option for the Academy being up and running and she’s running that, training the next generation.
Coulson: Lives.I know SHOCKING. I think he was very ready to throw in the towel after spending 20 months in the TV but then Enoch’s moving words in his death were what changed his mind about ‘powering down” when this is all over. Coulson realizes that yes, while it is hard to be the one to leave it is harder for the ones that are left behind but it's also necessary that they move on, and live for those they have lost before. Like Sousa and Fitzsimmons, he’ll be another that they’ll fake out death a few times. I see him leaving Shield though, taking Lola and finally just going and seeing the world, watching the history he loves so much happen. We get to see him driving around or even off in Lola for the last time. Other options include he does something that will allow him to totally run with his new super computer super power. The final thing I can see him doing is being the coolest professor at the newly rebooted Academy.
Flint: Get’s his tacos.
Piper: Keeps being awesome.
Davis: Better live dang it.
Kiddos Predictions:
That weird device Jemma makes brings Fitz
Deke sacrifices himself for Fitz
Fitzsimmons and their kid have to leave Shield
Mack leaves shield
Fitzsimmons, Dousy, Mackelena all stay together
Daisy kills Nathaniel, Daisy needs to quake him up
May or Nathaniel will take out Kora. But if she survives we want Daisy to take her in.
Fitz takes down SIBYL
Piper is watching the Daughter
The daughters name is Olivia
Robo Coulson will sacrifice himself
GHOST RIDER HAD BETTER BE OUR SURPRISE CHARACTER (this was literally shouted at me). Kiddo 3 voted for PIkachu (Lincoln)
Have no idea what will happen to May
We will get a “flash forward” ending showing what the team that is still alive is doing
Flint gets his tacos
They save the team and have a full out war at some point in time
The episode is going to be super good
Mom is going to cry
Well there it is. We’ll check back in on Thursday to see how I did!
Take My Hand (take my whole life too) - a Daisy/Daniel post S7 oneshot
Fandom: Agents of Shield
Pairing: Daisy x Daniel
Rating: G
Word Count: 3033
Author’s Note: Here’s a little post season 7 oneshot. Just some ideas I had for how the series could end for our lovely ship. I’m sure the next episode it will get ‘Jossed’.
Take my hand (Take my whole life too)
Daisy found herself alone, sipping on the last of her champagne. Sounds of laughter fill the backyard where the small reception is taking place. She’s filled with happiness for May and Coulson, but as she stares across the patio, eyes lingering on Sousa as he plays with little Diana Fitz-Simmons, she can’t help but feel a deep well of sadness. May and Coulson have known each other for two decades, and they’ve just now settled down and committed to a life with one another. It makes her hurt for all the missteps and loneliness that her pseudo-parents took to get here.
It makes her hurt for herself, and the man she’s just starting to realize means more to her than she’s comfortable with.
The sliding of a chair brings her out of her melancholic reverie, and a warm hand settles on her shoulder. Without thinking, she leans her cheek on it as she continues to stare out across the party.
“Do you want to talk about it?” Coulson prods.
Taking in a deep breath, Daisy exhales her sigh. She doesn’t want to dampen his night, but she knows he won’t settle until she’s given him something.
“It took so long for you to get your happy ending.”
That’s all she says, and she thinks it’s enough to convey all the things she’s feeling.
Coulson follows her gaze, his thumb rubbing soothing circles on her shoulder. He has easily put two and two together over the past few months as he’s watched Daisy stumble and dance herself around Agent Sousa.
“You’re wondering if it’s worth it?”
She nods, a hand reaching up for his to pull it down with hers as she turns her body to face him. He’s so happy right now, which should be answer enough to her concerns. The burdened weight of years of sacrifice have lifted from his face and posture, replaced with soft laugh lines and warm eyes. A mist settles over her eyes when she remembers that she had lost him once upon a time before traveling to the past, and fixing that one wrong that cut deeper than all the others. He was flesh and bone once again, and he was happily married with a gold band on his finger. He’ll be able to grow old with May instead of having to watch her die one day.
“Happiness seems tenuous at best. Our life takes it away so often, why risk it after so many years of not getting to this place?”
“I get it, I do,” he admits. He takes a swig from his bottled beer and sets it back on the table. His fingers fiddle with the bottle wrapper as he gathers his thoughts.
“We took a long time, and yeah, sometimes I wished we hadn’t. I wish we’d figured things out sooner, but I have to believe that it gave us the foundation we need to make it last, that otherwise we would have started something we couldn’t finish.”
“You know more than anyone what I’ve lost. I know what you’ve lost. I don’t know if I can survive losing someone else.”
The smallest tear squeezes out as she admits her fears. Coulson wipes it away immediately, and then tucks a few stray hairs behind her ear.
“You can survive anything. You’ve always been capable of so much more than you know. It’s the very reason you deserve your own happiness. I know you’ll get it one day, because there’s no one that deserves it more than you...except maybe a displaced WWII veteran,” he pauses with a soft chuckle as he glances back at the dark-haired man shuffling a toddler around on his feet.
Mirth fills his eyes as he returns his gaze to Daisy, her face burning red while she pointedly stares at the ground.
“And when you do, you’ll know. The bones will be good, and the time will be right. Every couple is different. Your happy ending might be a lot closer than you think.”
Daisy scoffs.
“Nice. Subtle.”
Coulson gives her that dad look.
“People arrive, so we celebrate, and people leave us, so we grieve. We do what we can with the time in between,” he pauses and gives her a knowing look. “For a sentient chronicom, Enoch understood the crux of humanity. Life can’t be just the things we lose.”
“I’ll try to keep an open mind,” she begrudgingly acquiesces.
He looks mollified as he leans back in his chair, crossing his arms. She’s reminded of how lucky she is to have him back in her life, to have someone who cares enough about her wellbeing to have this conversation. As they sip their drinks under the night sky, she thinks back on their first night of freedom at the rundown motel after Hydra was exposed. Even then, with half of a chocolate bar, he was trying to take care of her. Not for the first time, she wonders what her life would have been like, and what choices she would have made if she had had a father figure like Coulson in her life all along. Would she have chosen people like Myles and Ward?
She does know that Daniel’s unlike anyone she’s met before, and she doesn’t just think it’s because he’s a man out of time. There’s a goodness and steadfastness that is woven through him like the suits he still insists on wearing. Somewhere in there is a joke about how girls fall in love with men like their fathers. There are a lot of differences between Daniel and Coulson. There are also a few similarities. Apparently Daniel is the original Agent Suit, and apparently he also likes to take care of her. After going through countless time loops that proved over and over the type of man Sousa is, she’s doing her best to accept the help, and maybe let down her defenses a little bit. But accepting help is one thing, and jumping heart first into a relationship is another. They’ve barely been able to catch their breath since defeating the chronicoms, much less have any time to see if their feelings were more than surface level.
A small wrapped box is placed in front of her on the table, bringing her out of her conflicting thoughts.
“I got something for the new Director. Something every Director of a super top-secret spy organization should have,” he finishes with a grin, looking so much like the adorable nerd he is.
“Um...this is your wedding day. I’m pretty sure I’m supposed to be the one giving you a gift.”
Coulson merely shrugs. Daisy starts pulling the string on the wrapping paper.
“It’s also the first day of my life as a civilian.”
She can’t help but laugh as the dark blue paper falls revealing a simple wooden box.
“I don’t think you’ll ever be just a civilian.”
Her wide grin drops from her face when she sees the familiar keys nestled in the now opened box. She looks up at Coulson with wide eyes, words of refusal already in her mouth.
“No, I--” but he doesn’t let her finish.
“Yes. It’s time to pass the torch. She deserves to keep going on adventures, not sit in my garage,” he insists, closing his hand over hers, folding the keys into her palm.
****
She watches as Coulson steps in, lifting Diana into his arms, swinging her around in a half waltz. Daniel laughs with his hands on his hips in mock anger. Daisy looks away before she gets caught staring, and instead looks to her phone for a distraction. She flips through her photo album, gazing at candids from the small ceremony. Eventually she lands on the infamous picture of Daniel in an alley from literal decades ago.
“Looks like I could use a new dance partner.”
In an instant her phone is fumbling out of her hands, falling hard on the patio underfoot. Her face burns red with embarrassment as her brain tries to catch up to what he said. She blindly reaches for the phone while looking up at him.
“Dance partner?”
And she wants to slap herself in the face for her lack of finesse.
Daniel leans down a bit, holding his hand out for her to take.
“Let me try that again. May I have this dance?”
And Daisy doesn’t think she’s ever felt a rush of butterflies quite like that before. No one has ever asked her to dance with them. There weren’t many school dances she actually went to, and all the boys she’s been with before...well dancing wasn’t their style, at least not the kind with soft music and romantic lighting. She’d had a lot of experience with thumping bass, dark rooms, and wandering hands.
She likes to pride herself on the growth she’s made, the woman she’s become. She wears her independence like a badge of honor, but in that moment staring at Sousa’s hand, she feels young and completely smitten.
Unprepared. Unprepared is what she is, but it can’t be that different from sparring, right? She’s nothing if not ready for a challenge.
Sousa takes the hand she places in his, and a large grin spreads across his face. It takes her breath away.
“I don’t exactly know how to do this,” she admits, embarrassed.
“Do what? Dance? No way.”
Daisy nervously places her hand on his shoulder like she’d seen in the movies, while their fingers spread and squeeze into a firm hold with each other. He feels solid under her touch.
“True story.”
“Well, we’ll just have to fix that. Just follow my feet. When I step back with one foot, follow it with your opposite. When I step to the side, just go with me. When I step forward, you step back.”
“So it is like fighting,” she mumbles mostly to herself.
“Hmm?”
“Nothing.”
And it’s not so bad after the first couple of awkward shuffles. Eventually they find a rhythm, and Daisy’s surprised to find she’s enjoying the moment. She stops staring at their feet long enough to relax and watch the people around them, her people. She’s lost in thought while staring at Mack and Yo-Yo swaying to the music, arms wrapped tightly together.
Sousa clears his throat. “It was a beautiful wedding.”
“Long overdue, and exactly what they deserve.”
“You really love them.”
“More than anything. They’re my family.”
“You’re lucky to have them. And they’re lucky to have you.”
“I’m so sorry, Sousa. You must feel so alone,” she responds guiltily.
“I don’t feel so alone. Not right now. It’s hard to feel alone when I’m dancing with a real-life superhero.”
“If I’m a superhero, it’s only because of people like you.”
“People like me?”
“People who save people like me, who follow us into the dark, and pull us back out. People who roll with the punches and have good hearts. Solid people.”
“If I didn’t know any better Director Johnson, I’d say you were still trying to sweet-talk me into the Co-Director position.”
“That works too.”
Sousa looks at her skeptically before Daisy continues.
“So, what do you say? Ready to accept the position?”
With that, he is distracted. He chews on his lip in thought.
“You know I want nothing more than to help you, help SHIELD...It’s just hard for me to imagine being that useful in the 21st century. I’m so behind on modern technology and culture. I worry that I’ll be more of a burden.”
Daisy’s hackles raise at his blatant disregard for his worth.
“You think you’d be a burden? You’re a brilliant detective and strategist. You’re the guy that figured out Hydra’s involvement in SHIELD before anyone else, and was willing to give his life to stop them. You’re the guy that saved me from Nathaniel Malick. You’re the guy who took every time loop in stride and helped me break that time loop. You’re the guy that I…”
Daisy stops herself mid-sentence, almost saying something that she can’t take back. Something she’s too afraid to voice. Sousa looks down at her, hanging on her every word as she pauses. She shakes her head as if to clear it of her runaway thoughts. She decides to go with a much more palatable truth.
“You’re the guy I trust to have my back,” she finishes with a gulp.
For a moment she thinks she’s gone too far. He’s staring at her intently like he’s trying to crack a code or needle an interrogation suspect. After what feels like an eternity, he finally speaks up.
“Well, Director Johnson, how can I say no to that vote of confidence.”
She releases a nervous laugh. “You can’t. That’s the point,” she says with a satisfied smile.
“No, I suppose not,” he says with a twinkle in his eye that she has become increasingly fond of.
They settle into a comfortable silence as a new song comes on. Neither one of them make to leave the makeshift dance floor, so they drift into the opening tunes of Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling In Love.”
It’s soft and whimsical, and Daisy can’t help but let her mind wander to the man in front of her. He makes her feel things she doesn’t remember feeling before, not even with Lincoln. She’s hyper aware of how perfectly their hands fit together, and the gentle touch of his fingers on her waist. She has to physically stop herself from leaning forward and resting her head on his shoulder, to seek out the comfort she remembers from the barn. She wonders if he would follow her lips willingly just like he had in the time loop.
She thinks he might always look like he stepped out of a classic, black and white, Hollywood film.
As if he can read her thoughts, he pulls her a little closer, their arms wrapping around each other a bit more than what’s expected of two colleagues or platonic friends, but not quite as intimate as Mack and Yo-yo. She can’t stop the next words out of her mouth, because they’re simply true and pure.
“This is nice.”
Because it is. It’s so nice, and she’s still struggling to accept that she deserves to feel something this good.
With a knowing smile, he hums in agreement before gently turning her out, guiding her into a slow spin. When she steps back into his arms, neither one hesitates in drawing in a bit closer. The world is spinning around them, but he’s her only focal point. His kind eyes with slight crinkles, the touch of gray around his temples, the mole just below his Adam’s apple...the softness of his lips.
“You look beautiful tonight.”
And if that doesn’t take her breath away. When was the last time someone called her beautiful? She’s heard plenty of other adjectives: strong, stubborn, leader...destroyer. She wants to be all those things, and beautiful too.
“Thank you,” she responds quietly, not quite capable of meeting his eyes.
Then he says her name softly, prompting her to look up. The way he says, “Daisy,” instead of Agent Johnson, the way he’s asking for the answer to a question he doesn’t even know...she’s sure she knows the question.
It probably sounds a lot like, “Why does this feel so right? Why do your arms feel like home? Would it be alright if I kissed you?”
And her answer would be, “Because your favorite people are people like me. Because you’ve held me close before. Please, kiss me again.”
She never told him about the time loops. She never wanted to take away his free will. But right now she’s ready to tell him everything. She’s ready for a kiss that can never be erased.
An alarm starts blaring from her wristwatch, and the two of them jump apart. She can see several other members of their team all stop what they’re doing and look to their phones and smartwatches.
Daisy knows the night is over and duty calls. She’s surprised the whole wedding wasn’t interrupted, but she can’t help but feel angry nonetheless.
“Want to catch a ride with me?” she asks the suddenly sullen looking man out of time.
His face lights up with a smile, and he gestures to her to walk in front of him.
“After you, Director.”
She can feel his eyes on her as they make their way to the tables where she picks up the keys to Lola along with her belongings. It doesn’t feel like he’s leering. It feels protective and comforting, just like someone who’s got her back.
Coulson hugs her tightly, and May wishes them luck as they head out to chase down their next mission. It should feel sad, leaving them behind, but it somehow feels right. They’re her family. They’ll always be there for her, but now it’s time for her to lead, and she has one hell of a right hand to help her out.
As they make their way to the parked car, red and shiny in the moonlight, Sousa can’t help but ask, “What’s an 0-8-4?”
He must have taken a moment to read the alert sent to his phone.
“It’s an object of unknown origin. Probably alien. Think you can handle it?” she asks, and she can’t help but feel a thrill of excitement for the unknown.
“I’ve traveled 70 years into the future, I don’t think much will surprise me now.”
At that, she laughs out loud as she slides into the car.
“You might be right. Alright, last chance. Sure you want in?”
“Positive. I’m where I need to be.”
The way he looks into her eyes when he says it lets her know he means so much more than just the next mission.
“That’s good to hear. Now buckle up, I just might surprise you now.”
“I’m counting on it,” he says with an excited grin.
Daisy can feel his stare, even as they rise above the trees, Lola taking flight. Without looking at him, she takes his hand in her own.
If her cheeks turn red and her heart beats harder, well at least Coulson’s not there to notice it.
It's been over a week now since the AOS finale and I still haven't had the heart to rewatch it, so I'm just gonna share with you my opinions from that night (I wrote most of this the next day, just haven't posted yet lol)
It was next level excellent, overall, but I have A LOT to say, this is gonna be long
YES TO EVERYTHING DANIEL RELATED!!! The thing I loved the most was that they made him so useful, he wasn't just helping Daisy or doing whatever people told him to do, he actually had a great idea and executed it with Mack’s total support. He went to action and it gave me LIFE!
Another thing that gave me life was the philindaisy moment at the bar. I’m a sucker for them. When Daisy got there and hugged Coulson I was AAAAAAA and then she went to hug May and you see her stop, like, “oops, should I?” AND THEN MAY HUGS HER HERSELF!! Now, you can argue that May is an empath and felt Daisy’s emotions at that moment, but lemme tell y’all THAT WAS NOT JUST DAISY’S FEELINGS, THAT WAS MELINDA MAY'S GENUINE HAPPINESS FROM SEEING THAT HER DAUGHTER MADE IT BACK SAFELY!!! Try to convince otherwise and fail miserably. My family is just perfect like that.
The Fitzsimmons reunion scene I WAS SOBBING from the moment she realised the key was her ring!!! AND THEN FITZ JUST xkskdxkkm COMES BACK LIKE THAT kxsmkdsms I CAN’T djkskdsjsms I WILL NEVER EVER GET OVER THAT!!! That whole thing was genius, honestly. They were truly able to take a hard situation in which an important actor wouldn’t be able to be there for most of the season and used it amazingly to their advantage. And then Fitz HELPED HER REMEMBER BY TELLING THOSE STORIES = MORE TEARS. That whole scene was beautiful. AND WHEN SHE REMEMBERS ALYA OH MY GOD by that point I was screaming. Btw, I love how they chose their daughter’s name, it’s beautiful and has an even more beautiful meaning for them <3
Since I’m already talking about Fitzsimmons I’m just gonna go ahead and say that their ending was so well deserved. They suffered a lot, literally every season some shit would happen to them. I’m so glad they got their happy ending and are right now living their best life as a family <3 fitzsimmons family = everything to me. (are there any Fringe stans in here????? Did y’all notice that parallel at the end? If not, let me explain: aos: jemma sitting on the grass seeing fitz and alya playing together and smiling. Fringe: olivia sitting on the grass seeing peter and etta playing together and smiling. BOTH ON THE LAST EPISODE!! And both episodes were number 13. This is too much for my heart.)
About Deke: I really love that he was the one to “sacrifice” himself for the team. I’m not really a fan of Deke, but I was glad that he did what he always wanted, in a way; Contribute significantly to the team and be acknowledged as part of said team. It felt to me that by doing that he was doing what he often tried, but no one ever really took him seriously enough to allow him to do. I think he was selfless and then ended up finding his true place, after all. Nicely done, if you ask me.
On that note, and shifting back to Daniel once more: when he said he was gonna be the one to stay behind I was like “NO YOU’RE NOT! Don’t even think about it. You, buddy, are going with Daisy.” What was he thinking? (I know what, and I know it was brave and selfless of him, but just let me have my moment, okay?)
Now the answer to ending the war was empathy?????????? GENIUS!!! Mojed, you went beyond terrific there. I love everything evolving May in that part of the finale, how she dropped from the ceiling calling herself The Calvary (talk about character development!!!) to philinda fighting together and exchanging looks, to her saving the freaking world with her empath abilities!!!! I have some serious goosies just remembering.
Something else that was just genius to me was that they were the ones at the temple, THEY CARRIED MAY OUT OF THERE, I did NOT see that coming. WHAT?!
OH! And what about what Piper asked for??? She asked for Davis!! That’s adorable! That had me crying too, I love their friendship.
Now Kora. I was a little bothered about how fast things happened for her and Daisy on the sister bonding thing. Like, don’t get me wrong, I like that her and Daisy ended up working on the same team for SHIELD and that they were in a good place in their relationship, but what I’m saying is that Kora hated Daisy’s guts on one scene and Daisy had literally said a couple episodes ago that she did have a sister, but it was Jemma, and then Daisy died, and I liked that Kora saved her, is just that I got a vibe off of them in that scene that seemed like they had the best kind of sister bond for ages. Was that just me? Maybe, but hey ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
That’s not really a problem, I'm just saying.
Btw, when Daisy died for, like, two seconds, I was out of my mind!!!! I couldn’t even scream, I just froze in place. Thank God or whomever that she was brought back to life. I wouldn't be able to continue without my baby.
Now back to philinda and probably the only "complaint" I have: Let us agree, despite wanting them to be together in the end, there was very little chance of that really happening, right? Because he’s a robot now. But I did have a lot of hope, those episodes >>gave me<< a lot of hope. Y’know, in episode 12 they had that moment talking in the hallway, the explosion happened, he protected Melinda... I was like, “that’s my couple right there, you guys”. Then at the fighting scene they exchanged some looks at the end that really left me “it’s coming, people. Their happy ending.” It didn’t come. I took another blow to the face. A blow that was expected, yes, but a blow nonetheless.
I wasn’t all that excited about Coulson’s ending at first, you know, him just traveling the world, but I understand what they did and why. He’s still getting used to his new self and rediscovering his life, so it makes sense that he would need time to do that. That last scene with Lola was simply EVERYTHING TO ME tho!!!!
But May’s ending… the thing is, I had a lot of expectations for how she would end up. Throughout the seasons something that was very clear to me was her desire to be a mother and I know that she built that relationship with the youngest agents on the team, but I kinda expected, aside from philinda endgame, more of that. But my biggest problem here isn’t even that, is that I really, REALLY don’t see Melinda May giving lectures????? Melinda May? The woman who now calls herself The Calvary, teaching theory or history or whatever???? I’m not saying she can’t, I’m just saying I never thought of that as a possibility for her, it sounds more like a Coulson thing to me. But then again, that’s all they showed us from her life. They gave us very little details about how she (and everyone else, honestly) is living and I think in a way I like that because it lets us imagine whatever we want. So she could very easily just be there at the academy for one lecture, she could be training (physically?) new agents instead? IDK. Also, Flint was there, they could have built a relationship. Mentor\mentee like hers with Daisy at first or even mother\son? I’d like that. I like the “found family” thing.
I have two ideas of fanfiction out of the finale. The first one is a Dousy that I had already thought of and completely fits with one thing that Daisy said, and the other is basically a Philinda fix it because, well, I want to. I'm very lazy when it comes to my writing, but I really wanna do these two, let's see how that turns out.
