my parents are on holidays so every evening i go to their house after work to check on our cat, fill his water and food bowls, empty his litter and let him know that he's not being abandoned in general. i spend about an hour on the couch scrolling on my phone and petting him and then i open the bay window in the kitchen and eat dinner on the terrace, waiting for him to go have a little tour of the garden

ONCE UPON A TIME, THERE WAS A KNIGHT...

the visual inspiration for this was a combination of Frederic William Burton's Meeting on the Turret Stairs and also Bernardo Cavallino's The vision of St. Dominic receiving the Rosary from the Virgin

this was supposed to be just a one off illustration to get the thoughts out of my system, but then I started thinking about medieval politics and warfare and plagues and a castle and home as both a place of refuge, a prison, and a tomb, so perhaps they will end up as ex voto characters as well.

you may say, hey! that rosary looks like it has too many beads! it's a fifteen decade rosary, probably. dominicans are really into marian devotions. it works out.

also. spiral style stair cases. oh boy. it was that unexpectedly more difficult than I originally thought it would be to draw. the more I think about it, the less I understand them, even though I had a million photos of the stairs in front of me while I was drawing it.

#the economy and my bank account are in shambles and i ended up stress drawing this whole thing in one go #its so many lines. the next time i draw this. because i will be revisiting this composition. i want to use a different inking brush #i think. but the next time i draw this it will be with solid blacks on the stair case steps i think #hey here's a fun fact for those of you who aren't catholic. did you know that kissing the ring of the pope/a cardinal/etc #grants you an indulgence. cardinals also used to kiss the pope on the mouth. also foot and hand iirc. anyway #there are no cardinals in this drawing but im saying if you write medieval/renaissance smut about men of the cloth #you can really amp up the friction between holy and seductive with a lot of the (gestures vaguely) that.#actually another fun fact about cardinals. their fun sun hat (it's called a galero) has some fucking weird as hell fever dream (literally)#origin lore. so if seductive isn't your thing. the horror of a thing that you wear is also extremely fun #esp when you get into medieval gender performances of clothes and how they define a person etc #generic medieval tag #original tag

DBD x Met Gala (1/4): Edwin Payne and Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination (2018)

#oh met gala boards how I've missed you ;_;#ok so Edwin. our wonderful smart kind Edwin.#obvi I went the Catholic route OF COURSE I DID #if it ain't broke don't fix it etc etc #but so ok my own personal theme for this was playing off of Edwin's time in hell PLUS the sin of lust #because I just think it's very interesting that lust almost tore him away from Charles I'm just saying IM JUST SAYING!!!!!#I chose some fun Alexander McQueen collections to go through for this one too #the first being the Dante collection obvi inspired by the inferno and it's a really fun collection so I'd definitely recommend looking it up #the second collection was one called Voss which was inspired by madness and the natural world #the last two pieces are both from 2024 one is a SS and the other is a FW look #the one with the body popping out of the back is a look by Robert Wun for his SS24 collection #and the body piece is from Thom Browne's FW24 collection #both of these pieces and collections are super interesting as well so I'd def recommend taking a look at those as well!#but yeah! #this question is very hard for me to answer so obviously I have to torment everyone else with it #cause like. like I can really see the potential in either answer. both are feasible #I will say. most realistically. to me. edwin first charles harder #because I think…..I think the reasoning behind the other way around usually tends to be about how edwin absolutely was slower to bond and #open up in general whereas charles hit the ground fucking running #but i don’t think that particularly applies to their romantic relationship #if you mean ‘fell for’ in a general sense rather than a romantic one then yes 100%#but that’s not what im talking about here #I have a few different reasons but generally I think edwin fell first because like… the way he attached himself to charles and accepted him #as his person and etc is so unlike him to do with literally anyone- especially at the point where they first met/the first years they knew #each other. charles just seems to have hit him as something very very special and irreplaceable quite quickly for him to open up the way he #did and change and flourish into a fully realized person because of how safe and worthy charles made him feel #he took to charles with an unusual amount of ease and trust and I think that says something about how charles struck his heart Early #whereas with charles… yes on one hand he did stay on the mortal plane largely because of edwin and absolutely would’ve been impacted by the #tender act of mercy that was edwin reading to him as he died so he wouldn’t be scared. that’s absolutely what got him to trust edwin and to #want to be with him and protect him and so on #but charles would still do that and be like that under intense platonic circumstances I think #but most importantly I just think charles fell harder. when he fell is less important to me here- more important is that by GOD that boy is #down so fucking bad and outright SAYS IT in so many ways that he doesn’t realize– the sheer amount he restates how he’s content so long as #he’s with edwin. how he doesn’t want to be anywhere where edwin can’t follow. would and Did go to hell and back for him. believes him #to be the kindest and most incredible person he’s ever met. prioritizes him above anything and everything. etc etc etc #that’s not to say edwin doesn’t feel a similar amount of devotion– but charles just. really loves him with his whole person. loves him as a #fact of his existence and a piece of his very soul #idk man. it just feels like he is so incredibly smitten and he doesn’t even know it.#like I said though I can see both options and give reasons for both options so this question EATS at me I GENUINELY don’t have a super #strong feeling either is absolutely correct. it’s so difficult to answer they’re both so smitten and have such a history and GRAHHHH #payneland #dead boy detectives #rambling #polls

wanna ask how you feel about the eridan bpd headcanon/theory(?? not sure what to call it!) you're so good at your character analysis and i'd love to see your outlook on it

Since I don't have a degree or any formal training in psychology, I feel deeply uncomfortable diagnosing characters. I've made an autism joke before but only because I'm on the spectrum. He's definitely traumatized and anxious, but I mean those as descriptors of his behavior rather than capital-D Diagnoses. I try to focus on those when I can - the cause and effect of cognition, self-image, and behavior - and those factors may very well match up with DSM criteria, but I try not to touch an actual diagnosis with a ten foot pole unless the author has explicitly stated that X character has Y condition.

#there's a variety of reasons for this #part of it is that im GROSSLY unqualified to be handing out diagnoses when it takes a full on PhD to do that in real life #part of it is that psychology is inchoate and we are still very much in murky waters #for example: complex ptsd isn't even IN the DSM yet #and iirc my therapist told me it was because theyre still figuring out how to classify it (attachment disorder? trauma disorder? etc.)#part of it is that (from my limited and undereducated understanding) there are diagnoses that you can assign by completing a checklist...#but some that require a hell of a lot more testing and ruling out other potential causes #and the cluster-b personalities are (IIRC) not even ones you're supposed to diagnose minors with #bc of fears of self fulfilling prophecy and because minors in general are still developing personalities In General #and like the fact that i can't say that with authority speaks to how unqualified i am to do any diagnosing right? hahaha #and part of it is just because like #unless the story is specifically About That and the author has stated so explicitly #i think diagnosing characters tends to put blinders on analysis #like if i were to seriously go 'eridan is autistic' then it would massively bias my reading and understanding of his character #and we have 0 indication that eridan was ever explicitly intended to be autistic or that the author was trying to do an autism specifically #that doesn't mean that the reading is invalid because like thats what death of the author means #all readings are technically valid including stuff the author didn't necessarily intend #but that's just not the way i like to engage with media and not the way i like to approach character analysis #because PERSONALLY it just feels kind of reductive - but also -#i'd wager MOST of us don't have degrees in psychology #so when i say 'X character has Y condition' it might mean something totally different to somebody reading my analysis #even people who have Y condition aren't exempt because a lot of mental illnesses differ from person to person #whereas if i explain “X character has Y thoughts and Z behaviors” there's no ambiguity in that #eridan struggles with noticing that people are suffering and with realizing that he should care #at least part of this is due to his horrific murder-filled upbringing which rendered empathy a detriment & so he learned to ignore it #it could be autism - but it could also be trauma -#or he might just be Like That without actually meeting the diagnostic criteria for autism #& you can't even technically be diagnosed with C-PTSD #or maybe he has a burgeoning personality disorder but you aren't supposed to DX those too early anyway #or maybe hes just 13. see what i mean hahaha. ive reached the 30 tag limit
