section G from the oc question list
i’m so sorry this is late!! i refreshed my inbox and completely forgot!!
i’ll answer these for Eralei since she’s one of my few characters whose family actually plays a meaningful role in her story... i have a habit of creating characters whose families are largely irrelevant and/or dead OOPS
thank you so much for asking!
1. Is your OC close to their family?  not at all. she was never close with either of her parents--they were too busy for her--and she was pretty much raised by her nurse anyway. Eralei didn’t make more than token efforts to reach out to them after she was sent to Korriban, and they hardly ever checked in. as of now, they are no longer on speaking terms whatsoever. 2. Who makes up your OC’s family, at least the more important members to them?  just her father and her mother, no siblings. Eralei would consider her nurse and her handmaid to be her family as well, though. she loved them dearly. 3. Does your OC find their family supportive? If not, what would be an example why not?  her parents have never, ever been supportive of what Eralei wanted out of her own life. it was always about what she would do for them; first it was to marry who they said to marry for political gain, produce heirs, continue the family line. then once it came to light that she had the gift of the Force, it was to go off and become a great and powerful Sith and bring strength and honor and power to the family... and then come back, get married, and produce heirs. Eralei had always felt nothing more than a pawn to them, only existing as a tool or a bargaining chip to further her House. when she married--to an outsider, and a woman, no less--her parents were furious. none of that was what they had planned for her. how dare she? they gave her everything, only for her to go on to betray them like this?  never mind the fact that every single thing she’d built up and accomplished, as a Sith and as the commander, was done entirely without their help or support. and so she walked out of their lives and never looked back. 4. What kind of childhood did your OC have?  for the most part, it was quite lovely. she was safe, comfortable, and well cared for by her nurse. she got to live and grow in a beautiful home without a serious care in the world. her biggest stressors were the pressure by her parents to be a Proper Young Lady Of The House™ when all she really wanted to do was explore and play outside, which she still managed to do at every chance. it wasn’t until she got older and less naïve and more aware of the political happenings that her family was involved in that things started to change. her idyllic early years were definitely cut a bit short, and she was forced to grow up in a hurry. she became quickly and intimately aware of all the intricacies of Alderaanian politics, and how delicate and volatile such things tend to be. 5. Did they go through any typical phases growing up?  not really! she was very well behaved, quiet and polite and proper; her parents saw to that. she did start to grow a bit of a defiant streak in her young teens, but that was more because she was trying to push back against the plans her parents had for her (arranged marriage, go make babies, etc) fortunately for her, that didn’t get the chance to happen. Korriban happened instead :’) 6. Do they have any favorite childhood memories?  she had a few years in the sweet spot of relative freedom; old enough that she didn’t have to be watched constantly, but young enough to not be entirely swamped by responsibilities. once she’d finish her lessons for the day, she’d slip out of the estate and go off riding through the mountains and forests of Alderaan, always careful to return before her parents would finally notice her absence. it gave her a few hours of peace, at least. to this day she’s still incredibly fond of going off quietly somewhere on her own to clear her head. 7. Do they have any childhood memories they’d rather forget or be less affected by?  i don’t think she would, no. her childhood shaped who she is today and she’s thankful for the life skills it taught her, especially in her position as the leader of a major galactic power. she holds dearly to the good, and is grateful for the lessons of the bad.

Thank you! <3
1. The ducks. ;) We have a lot of ducks in our neighborhood waterways this year and it’s been entertaining watching all the babies paddling around.
2. The Houston World Series of Dog Shows. We go every year and it was just a little while ago. Found a great guy who makes cat trees, met lots of beautiful dogs, had a fun time with my daughter.
3. My collection of comfy cardigans. I’m often cold ;) And I have several very soft cardis that I love.
4. Books! I’m reading The Expanse and re-reading the Black Jewels. I never get tired of books.
5. My dogs and my silly kitty. They give me reasons to smile every day.

9, 14, and 15
14 - If you had to narrow it down to 2 things that you MUST keep in mind while working with your OC, what would those things be?
I’m not quite sure if this is meant to be working with the character like, in-universe, or as a creator, but I’ll answer it as a creator. There are two very important things when it comes to writing her character that I keep in mind:
Her personality, which is a bit of a lighthearted stereotypical do-gooder, with a bit of prim and proper mixed in when she gets flustered or feels off balance
She has a very complicated relationship with the Dark Side, due to the fact that she associates it (and to an extent, the Sith) with the death of her parents. It’s a bit complicated to explain, but she both felt the first stirrings of it within herself as well as the presence of the man responsible for her mother’s death, while also feeling her mother’s death through their Force bond. She both fears and loathes the cold feeling of it tangling around her spine, which is in fact a very bad thing for someone trying to resist it’s pull, as it’s kind of like pulling a trap a little tighter around yourself.
15 - What is something about your OC that can make you laugh?
God she’s such a dork sometimes... so she makes me laugh a lot. She takes things very literally a lot of the time, and so things like sexual innuendos have a tendency to fly completely over her head because she’s trying to interpret them at face value. It’s not necessarily because a lack of intelligence, it’s just that it’s almost never the first thing on her mind. More like... the tenth or twentieth.
9 - Are they based off of you, in some way?
Inadvertently? Yes. (I’m going to answer that in a little more detail in a  forthcoming ask) -- however I did intentionally give her a few similarities just because I thought they fit her character or were interesting traits to write in details for to fill out scenes narratively. Things like how she takes her caf/coffee or being a vegetarian I felt were either good story/scene hooks, or helped develop the world or character in a way.

Bedroom/house/living quarters headcanon
Tumblr media
Let’s talk about Merkara’s bedroom because no matter where she gets to live, bedroom is the most important part of any place for her. This is the room that’s exclusively hers, and no one trespasses without an invitation. It’s her personal little fortress, so she makes it all about herself and the things that she enjoys. There is an ongoing conflict between her wish to keep everything neat and her terrible hoarding habit, so expect to find a lot of random objects she likes stacked on every surface. There would be books that she’s been reading lately, jewelry and hairpins that she always forgets to put away, and a cursed ancient artifact right on her nightstand. When there comes a time for her to share her bedroom with her significant other on a regular basis, adapting proves to be very difficult — she absolutely hates giving up bits of her personal space at first. What do you mean you can’t just keep cursed objects lying around the room?

3, 8, and 10 for the ask meme, for whoever you want :)
3. How did you choose their name?
So... this is going to sound stupid. XD
This story starts with a 15-year-old Keldae, going by her RL initials of AJ (... I had a drawn-out edgy phase where I didn’t like my first name. Bite me.). A friend was jokingly trying to guess my first name and said “Ajax!”, and that became my online handle for a few sites... until I was trying to make a YouTubes account and “Ajax” wasn’t available. However, “Xaja” was.
Because I hyperfocus on usernames, I used Xaja as my username on eeeeeeverything fandom-related, including when I first joined Axiom. I made the account before reading everything on the site, and then realized that the account usernames were also character names, so I shrugged and decided that my main character was now Xaja (although I did change her last name from “Silversheen”, the other half of my old handle, to “Taerich”. There’s no backstory with “Taerich”, I just thought it sounded nice.). And she’s kept that name ever since. :D
8. What (if anything) do you relate to within their character/story?
All of my characters are a foil of me in some way -- I think I might actually be closest to Sorand personality-wise. But Xaja is where I write out my insecurities and write out my mental illness issues. She has depression and anxiety like me, if on a worse scale (she also has PTSD in there, which I thankfully don’t have). In a way, part of Xaja is what I aspire to be -- a (reasonably) confident, smart, friendly, strong person. She’s giving me glimpses of future-fic where she’s happy and stable and relaxed, and I want that for myself as much as I want that for her.
10. If they have an LI, how much of their character is tailored to be compatible to that person?
Oooooh, good question. Xaja’s very first incarnation (before I figured out her personality) was more angsty and emo-ish (she came into existence around the tail end of the afore-mentioned edgy phase); by the time I started writing her in SWTOR canon’verse instead of Axiom’verse, she had changed into a snarky, wisecracking midget who both loves snuggles and will throw hands at anyone calling her “Missy”. I didn’t start writing fanfiction for her until KOTFE came out, but had been shipping her with Theron since Shadow of Revan.
It’s hard to say what about her was made to adapt to Theron. She’s always been a night owl (like him), and she’s a sarcastic little hothead (which suits him). Some parts of her I feel adapted to balance Theron out, like her less-than-stellar ability to lie, and her obvious attachment to her family (She was friendly enough with her brothers in Axiom, but she never canonically met her dad... who started out as a Space!Malfoy NPC and only told me otherwise after like four years. Asshole. Anyway, she didn’t tell me she was a daddy’s girl until I was into the KOTFE fic with her.). I feel like she’s the shorter-tempered one of the two of them. Although I think she’s the one who comes up with the plans that tend to be slightly more logical than “blowing up a Sith warship while naked” and “blowing up a train”. >.>
That being said, it was easier to write her relaxing and lowering her defences when Theron was in the picture than it was in Axiom. I don’t know if you would call that “tailoring” to her LI, but I can write her better showing her vulnerabilities with him. In Axiom, she was a lot more closeted about showing attachments and emotions, like the Tythonian Jedi she was trying so hard to be a good example of (... never minding the illicit boyfriend she had, but that’s beside the point); writing her now, displaying expression and fondness towards Theron is much easier. Even in the Shadow of Revan era, she openly flirted with Theron (le gasp!), and I think her willingness to bend some of the Tythonian rules (even before she found out she was half-Corellian) is definitely something that lends itself to the compatibility between them. Her willingness to tell off her superiors *cough*Saresh*cough* (... and *cough*she still told Jace off on Iokath*cough*) and enemies *cough*Valkorion*cough* is also something she would have never done in Axiom, but she does now.
I’m rambling. tl;dr, I think most of her personality was already fairly compatible with Theron, but her sass and courage and openness and willingness to rebel if necessary was adapted into her SWTOR’verse self.

18. A kiss on the forehead :)
Scourge looks up from where he’s just turned the caf on to brew when he hears a noise in the doorway, smiling at Semiri’s sleep-tangled hair and the way her voluminous nightgown flows around her. He crosses the kitchen and rests a hand on the growing curve of Semiri’s stomach, leaning over to press a kiss to his wife’s forehead. “How is Marise today? You look slightly more rested than you have been lately.”
“Not for lack of her trying,” Semiri grumbles. “She’s being a pain in my kidneys, as usual.” As if to corroborate this, Scourge feels what is unmistakably a kick underneath his hand. “See?”
“I do indeed. And how are you?”
“I could go for some breakfast,” she says, going on tiptoe to press a kiss to her cheek. “Can I convince you?”
He smiles. “I’m already mid-preparation. Go sit down and relax; I’ll bring you a plate when it’s done.”

Bloop Bloop Bloop
Zura doesn’t ever attune to the Force. she grows up to be an architect, and paints in her spare time. She doesn’t make any money with her art, but that’s not why she does it. Her mother could not be more proud.
Bestian has the same (potential) strength in the Force as his sister, Aemilia, but he has neither the aptitude nor desire to become Jedi - or join any kind of Force cult, for that matter. This isn’t to say he doesn’t use it unconsciously, Force-sensitive-Han-Solo-theories style, but his interest in the Force begins and ends with ‘not’.
Speaking of Aemilia, her first calling in life was as a Jedi historian - her special area of interest is the Jedi Civil War, and particularly the influence it had on the civil unrest on her homeworld of Onderon. Unlike some Jedi, Aemilia grew up on her homeworld, tutored by a Jedi who lived in Iziz, and the connection between the unrest among the Jedi and the internal struggle her own people faced is a prime example, to her, of why the Jedi cannot afford to disconnect themselves from the world - because in doing so, they only make the conflicts that seek Jedi out all the worse for it.

“You’re holding back.”
Thank you. It gets a bit grim, I’m afraid.
Those three words had followed her since childhood, always in that resonant, hated voice. The voice of her father, saying them to her with subtle mockery.
She had rolled onto her back and sighed. It hurt just as much this time as it had the half a dozen times before. Her mother looked concerned, but did not try to stop the “training”. They were the royal family of a warrior people, and she would learn. Her father did not even show that much emotion. Her brothers? Absent, as they had been these last months.
She had cheered their victories. They could have at least consoled her in defeat.
She rolled to her feet and picked up the staff once again. She would lose again, but that didn’t mean she would give up. She would stand again until she could not stand any longer, she swore to herself.
She heard his voice. “You’re holding back.” She did not turn her head, but she could sense him smiling down at her. She gripped her staff, but never used it.  Steeling herself, focusing her will, the Knight’s staff stopped before it could hurt her again. Then, the Knights were stopped before they could hurt her again.
Her mother’s voice, calling her name. Her own fear, confusion, regret. Her father turning away, but with a mix of satisfaction and, what, fear? Of her? No, the Eternal Emperor would not be afraid of a mere child.
She had sat in her cage, looking at her few things. The carvings, the picture, a book. Her brother had just brought her another block to carve, from another conquered world. He was the only one to visit. Just one of two. Never her father. Never her mother.
No, her mother had visited, hadn’t she? She remembered running with her.
No, her mother had abandoned her here. How she hated her mother.
She wondered what she would make.
They allowed her a single knife. The one they’d used to… Better to not think of that. Just use the knife and carve the wood. Just use the knife and carve the wood.
Jarak came to the door. His eyes crinkled a bit as he smiled behind that mask. “All right, Princess Vaylin, it is time for another treatment.”
She looked at the knife in her hand. She remembered it carving, but not wood. She heard his voice again, this time a memory. “You’re holding back.”
She threw the horrid thing from her. Tears streamed down her face as she looked up at her tormentor. One of her tormentors. Really, there were so many. She stared, and her face contorted finally into a grin that would have scared her if she could see it.
She laughed. And laughed. What Jarak heard clearly disturbed him, and he eventually backed away. She could not hold it back any longer. She laughed until she no longer could, her throat raw, then she sat dully in her cage.At least there was no more regret.
Her brother brought her home. She was kneeling before her father, his gift at her belt. “You’re holding back.”
Yes, she thought, smiling. For now. Not for much longer.
Her brother ruled, with her at his side. What freedom he gave her. She could almost forgive him. She probably would have, eventually, but then, he brought it up. As though he wasn’t, himself, responsible. As though he hadn’t destroyed the only thing that gave her solace.
No, he was hurting, too, a voice said. The voice of a little girl that loved her brother.
“You’re holding back.”
The little girl was silent. The voice of the woman that laughed herself hoarse every night, then cried herself to sleep, was the only voice that mattered.
The Outlander stood before her, taunting her, but it did not matter. The only voice that mattered was her father’s. “You’re holding back.” She attempted to destroy him then and there.
She knelt, in pain, the sickness she had been inflicted with dragging her down for all to see. She had lashed out at the Outlander, and this was the result. She fled. There would soon be a reckoning.
She screamed. She had known the process was dangerous, known she would need to be strong. She had no idea how much pain it would cause. How much fear. She could not die here. Perhaps, perhaps death would be a relief, but not here, where her spirit would be drained, trapped.
If she must die, she would die free, die fighting.
“You’re holding back.”
She was free. Now, to prove it.
She stood on the platform, fought with all her might against her family, and failed. For all her unlocked power, she was still mortal, still weak. She could not stand against them. She had been driven to her hands and knees, where she cried out in pain.
For the last time, she heard it. “You’re holding back.”
She could crush them all, collapse the Alliance base, swat their ships from the sky. She could destroy them all, finally, everyone that had hurt her, betrayed her, abandoned her. All she needed was enough time. All she had to do was let go, to not hold back. Like in the arena.
She stood and looked to the Outlander, and saw the determination to stop her, the villain, the monster. If there had ever been any sympathy, it was gone. From her mother all she sensed was despair. Her brother? He needed to atone, and she would die for it. That was, perhaps, the most shocking feeling.
All she sensed from Father was satisfaction. It would be over soon.
She drew her lightsaber, his “gift” to her, and looked down at it.
She threw it to the ground with such force that it shattered.
“Yes, ‘Father’, now, finally, you are right. I am holding back. Because it takes strength, and because I’m finally free of you.”

To: CasseopeiaSubject: Question
I’ve been noticing something about Cipher 9. She seems to be spending her down time with Vector more and more. I mean; he’s super great, who wouldn’t? I never had a damn clue why they alienated him as a diplomat, he could broker a treaty with the Empire and Republic if he wanted too. I mean his eyes are, something? it’s gonne be hard not to stop staring at them even more now.

In the face of criticism, is your character defensive, self-deprecating, or willing to improve?Nal: Self-Depreciating-- she feels like SHIT and isn’t used to people criticizing her.Yahno: Defensive. It’s just how he reacts to a lot of things. Ard: Always willing to improve. He’s a good agent...
