One of the weirder mistakes in the game: ever since the statue subplot came up on this playthrough, I've been asking myself where it supposedly is at the train station.

There's absolutely no statue here. I've zoomed in as far as I can go and there's nothing.

Then I visited in chapter 20...

Lo and behold, there is a version of the background art with a statue! Just not the one that's used for most of the game. This must be something left behind from a previous stage of development, a version of the story where the train station either doesn't have a statue at all, or there's a plot point about it being removed. Very strange that they didn't notice the primary background art was missing a huge item the characters keep saying is present.

Okay, in general there's not too much removed content in this game--the DS didn't give them a lot of space to work with. But, there are two little sections that escaped my notice until just now: the text files "gmsys" and "term_imp". Now, "gmsys" is an important file because it contains all the Thought titles, but I actually copy-pasted those into a separate file some time back, because I was sick of scrolling past all the other stuff. And "term_imp" I just didn't touch for some reason.

However, it looks like gmsys also has the titles attached to the terms you implant into people, which of course are in term_imp, and some of these look very unfamiliar to me! After looking through this walkthrough, I think I've identified the ones that don't appear in the game. A total of 13(!), including some that seem to imply a different backstory for Atsuki, one where he may have had powers in his childhood. Or at least, something unknown that was worrying his parents.

Failed Kidnapping Attempt

The culprit acted alone and is being pursed by police. Their face has been uncovered, so the arrest is only a matter of time.

NOT USED IN GAME. What on earth could this have been? I'm guessing it was related to the driver's license, which would have been used to reveal the culprit's face.

I wonder if this was the original way Tanaka attacked Sayuri. As I've mentioned before, Killaware was founded by people who left Atlus between the release of Persona 3 and Persona 4--it was so early on that Persona 4 couldn't have been past the idea stage, but they clearly brought a few seeds of the Adachi plot to Tanaka. (And there's definitely a straight line from Elizabeth's design to Nola.) In the final game, Tanaka seems to choose his targets indiscriminately and has no sexual motivations, but the three targets we focus on are all women. It's possible he was originally meant to be more like Adachi.

Of course, that would require the face on the Driver's License to be a dead end so you don't find the midboss in chapter 3. Maybe the plan was for him to have access to other people's ID because of his job?

The number of sprited characters is 49, with a little scrap of data showing that Mint once had a sprite. 50 is such a nice even number that I think it's unlikely they were planning to have more. So if characters were completely scrapped, I think it would've been in the planning stages, and no traces of that character would have made it this far into development. Hibiki shows several signs of someone who was still being altered late in development, but I think a different backstory for Atsuki is the most likely option here.
