Anon here responding to the other anon's question and your reply about why it is the FE fandom is so hostile to Fates fans.

I want to add another point to this discussion by pointing out that there is a downright bizarre and stifling assumption that the only way to measure the whole work is by being "objectively correct". The vocal minority of shitheads who dictate discourse are allergic to any kind of subjectivity, to the point there's an entire point made in argument for this with "Personal Experience Means Nothing". Originally used to shut down anyone who argued for a bad unit as good (regardless of how customizable FE is), it's the ethos the series went by; that there are simply objectively good and objectively bad stories and games, and deviating from that consensus in any way at best gets you shit-talked, at worst outright dogpiled for it. It's the pursuit of an undefinable, unattainable idea of rightness that's downright tautological; it's right because it's right, and anyone who has the unassuming gall to act like there's room for alternate interpretation needs to be gatekept out of the fandom to keep people 'correct'.

If you knew me for more than five seconds, you'd know that I generally despise the idea that anyone is more deserving of preferential treatment solely for existing, as opposed to doing something to earn that sentiment. And what utterly aggravates me is how these same people who refuse to hear any sentiment about people who love Fates's story (like me) are so provably incorrect on the matter; like, to quote your tag notes, that exact sentiment how one line colored a character's perception as inconsistent when the inconsistency was goddamn intentional. And when you present evidence on the contrary, they double-down and dismiss it as "cheap setting filler" or "a weak attempt at sympathy," in an attempt to resolve the cognitive dissonance and discredit the sentiment utterly. And then these same people have the nerve of acting like they're being perfectly logical, enough that they can effectively "teach" people the "right" way to enjoy the series, all while gaslighting people that elitism is no longer a problem while they call anyone who dismisses their sentiments as plainly incorrect (even when they are) as "the real elitist".

You see the problem, right?

The FE fandom is in this weird spot in being technically mainstream while at the same time niche in the Western space, and while most fandoms have kind of moved on from the tendency to gatekeep that defined communities in the 2000s and 2010s, the FE fandom... did not. If anything, it's gotten worse as the series continued to evolve, and a lot of this response against any kind of sentiment that contradicts how they feel is reactionary by nature. What gets me is that they're not just irrational and emotional, but they themselves don't see it - they are so emotionally unintelligent that they assume their subjective feelings are objective facts, and then get mad when people refuse to be bullied into silence over the matter. I have legit seen hardcore tryhard fandoms be regularly less toxic than the FE fandom, and it's infuriating that these select few want to openly exclude somebody like me who has the facts in order and a new perspective on the series, because they are so confident in their ignorance and refuse to actually adjust or change in response to evidence on the contrary, because they are ultimately defined by their feelings over facts. It's such a total double standard and I hate it.

The truly ironic thing about this is that Fire Emblem is the romanticist and subjective JRPG on the market. It checks off all the books: a wise and caring prince seeking to avenge their kingdom by defeating an ancient evil and restoring his right to the throne, emotions and love being heavily emphasized, kickass swords, extreme emphasis on emotivist sincerity and romanticist idealist... the series would be genuinely not out of place of the romanticism movement of the 1800s, and what makes it so aggravating is that the FE fandom is so hamstrung by being seen as objectively correct all the time and perfectly logical and orderly that they refuse to see what the series is actually about - evidenced by developer testimonies, no less! And the problem lies in these select few controlling the discussion of the series while most are apathetic on the matter, and it's just utterly infuriating because I deserve to be taken seriously as I put into it more effort than they ever deserve, and if they can't understand that or refuse to let people like me exist in the community, then maybe they're playing for the wrong reasons.

I adore FE. My favorite fictional series of all time. But dear God, do I hate the fandom beyond words.

Honestly as a HUUGE Shadow Dragon and Mystery of the Emblem fan, Fire Emblem Warriors (1) should've just been Fire Emblem Fates and maybe Fire Emblem Awakening.

The game clearly wasn't interested in Shadow Dragon given the info on the game was often blatantly incorrect, representation was below bare minimum (Camus is said by the writers to be in many ways the real main character of the games and he was absent), and it didn't get a stage like Awakening And Fates did.

Almost none of the Shadow Dragon characters added anything to the game either with the vast majority of them being, the only real unique one was Tiki and she could've easily been Awakening Tiki, Dragonstone moveset Corrin, or Lilith among others.

Gharnef was of course redundant to with Validar and Iago existing.

Meanwhilst if they'd stuck to Fates, they would've been able to get Fire Emblem staple classes like Armored Knight, Lance Cavalry, Bow cavalry, Axe Fighter, ETC. We also could've gotten more unique villains like Hans (Axe Fighter) and Garon (Armor axe). Anankos would've definitely been cooler than Velezark.

Also best of all, there's alot of stories you could tell with all the major characters of Fates as well as the villains and nations as oppossed to just having a bunch of crossover characters, many of which occupy the same archetypes.
