Hello hello! My name is Genny and I’m the creator/author of The Rhyming Tarot. I’d love to find a community I can squeeze myself into, so please say hi! I’d love to exchange readings and support fellow writers/artists.

I’ve been writing poems and songs since I was itsy bitsy teeny tiny. I remember reading Shel Silverstein’s poems for the first time and thinking that if I couldn’t learn to write poems like that, I might as well curl up and die. That feeling has never left.

I live for high-quality whimsy, magic in the mundane, and solid mnemonic devices.

I’ve been reading and studying tarot for 19 years. I love that a deck of tarot cards functions as its own little world, always there for our entertainment and enlightenment. The more I collected different decks, the more I appreciated the classic Rider-Waite-Smith. To honor it, and to expand on it, I decided to add poetry to the pictures. I think I did a great job of capturing and honoring its heaviness and its humor in The Rhyming Tarot. It’s tarot 101 for beginners, and a meditative device for more advanced readers. Plus, look how sweet it is. Bless.

Ok first of all, this spread is GORGEOUS

Second of all, this reading was very insightful. I'll post it down below:

1) Something the deck wants you to know

The Devil. It is a controlling deck. It holds the power in the conversation. Considering I pulled the empress in a previous interview, I got the image of a stern, motherly figure. Strict, but for your own good.

2) First Impression of Me

King of Cups. Someone who is wise and compassionate, but rarely truthful as they fear hurting the feelings of others. (How does this deck know me so well??)

3) The Nature of Our Working Relationship

Page of Wands Reversed. Feelimg caged. This is so accurate, as the greatest thing hindering me from honing my tarot skills is that I am still in the broom closet, and readings are all done in secret. I have to be ready to hide my cards in a moment's notice when I hear someone approaching. I really feel chained and bound because of this, I feel that I can't explore my spirituality freely

4) Strengths as a Deck.

Three of Swords Reversed. Recovery and forgiveness. I take it that this deck is one that focus on solutions and moving on. It is one that encourages you to forgive, and heal.

5) Limitations as a Deck

Nine of Pentacles Reversed. Mistakes and setbacks. I think this deck is warning me not to get ahead of myself. I am not lacking in ambition to learn, but I have to understand that passion does not guarantee capability. I need to know where I am in my journey first. I need to learn more, basically.

6) Guidance

The World Reversed. Incompletion. There is something I have to do to reach completion. The guidance is for me to get going and move past my obstacle; the finish line is so close. It also indicates that I need to do some inner work for my self in order to improve.

I finally completed the Devil card. This bad boy had me stuck-stuck for a LONG time. I have some real interesting stories behind creating it - dreams and all. . . I started this particular card after completing Justice, but got tangled up trying to articulate my idea and decided to work on something else and come back to it. . . Took me a while, but I pushed through and got it done. The plan was to get super raunchy with this one but my hubby talked me down. In this case, it worked out better. I think I captured sex and opulence pretty well. Less is more. . . For my tarot friends and non tarot friends alike - tell me what you see. How would you interpret this card?
