(in case you haven't watched hit animated series avatar the last airbender this is based off of the scene when the gaang go to watch the fire nation's play and this kid runs up to zuko, not knowing that he actually *is* the famous prince zuko, goes "your zuko costume's pretty good but the scar's on the wrong side" and zuko shouts back "the scar's not on the wrong side!!!!!" so. idk its funny please laugh xx)

I really appreciate how emphatically insertdisc5 does NOT want to answer any fandom questions. They made ISAT, put it out into the world, told the story they wanted to tell, and that's that.

What happens after the credits roll? That's what fanfiction is for. There is no canon outside of the game. Canon is what the fandom makes of it. Each person has their own version of the story after the credits roll and that's something insertdisc5 has encouraged. And that really speaks to someone who is deeply familiar with fandom and tumblr fandom culture.

There is no gospel for these characters. There is no divine truth. We no longer have to look towards the creator for answers to who these characters are. It's in the hands of the fandom, and more importantly, each individual fan, to craft any potential story moving forward.

Even in the artbook, everything stated is said in a "I think" or "I had the idea" but nothing is definitive. Fandom is allowed to continue the story anyway we want. That's pretty cool, I think.

Finally finished In Stars and Time! I cried! Multiple times! Such a lovely game.. thankful to my partner for suggesting it

I just have such strong feelings about In Stars and Time.

Because it’s not just the great writing, the amazing quality of life, and the masterful gameplay…it’s also how InsertDisc5 brings the player into the story.

It’s the illusion of choice.

Siffrin is a protagonist, not a player stand in. For example, Siffrin will always make the joke about the Favor Tree even if you select “stop,” it’s funny, he loves puns, of course, they must go on.

So, when I tell you how nauseous I became when I had to physically choose more and more unhinged and cruel options as Siffrin snapped, it was the most emotional response I have had to a game in a long time. Had to take a lap, honestly.

Because it’s not really a choice. It’s a line of dialogue. But the act of picking it, having to come to terms that “oh, this is happening now, ok, ok, this is fine, we’re fine,” brings about all these feelings of hopelessness, desperation, and, yes, really does just stab into the heart of “I can’t choose the bad dialogue option because they’ll get mad at me”.

That’s the point! It’s a meta narrative about someone believing they have to be perfect to be loved. That they have to do all the right things, in the right order, at the right time to lock the people they care about in an elaborate scheme to win their love.

To unlock all the achievements. To get the best ending.

But there’s just Siffrin. And we, as players, are just as trapped as he is.
