Literally he’s just a different take and depending on if he was your first Leonardo or not he’s going to hit really differently. He’s everyone’s first Leon. The amount Rise Leo talks alone is wildly off-brand (Leo has like 6 lines in the entire secret of the ooze movie) and the frolicking was certainly a choice. A good one that I loved. Haaa had you there for a sec. Writers are always a bit ‘wtf do we do with Leo’ and Laird (co-creator of TMNT) has said before that Leonardo speaks formally so we know Rise Leo is on that shit list. But I don’t think the point of Rise was a reiteration, but a reimagining.

Leo, by design, is the responsible kid who despite age always falls into the brother-dad role and ends up in charge of wrangling his brothers (and it being all his fault when they fail). Subsequently he gets a lot of gloomy emo plot lines, a bunch of trauma, and when he does have fun ends up punished for it somehow (the 24 comic line is slapping this guy too- a Leo who loses mercy is actually terrifying. I love the brutality but am also begging them to just let him be happy at some point)

Rise Leo had that older brother role taken which I found refreshing, and then noticed he’d had a core quality stripped and that was really hard to adapt to. He was taken from skilled ninja due to extreme dedication to his craft and let’s face it, obsession with martial arts *cough special interest cough* to being a guy who ditches practice and was just good at fighting anyway; shiny gifted kid aura and full Mary Sue. Rise Leo had his strategic nature was so well written in but he also had no right being any good in a fight, and I have a theory that’s pretty much what pissed off all the people you see so annoyed about Rise Leo and angry about it (that aren’t just raging homophobes who can’t deal with a little queer coding) Leo bi icon real. Immediately, sorry, I have to share this thought, 03 looking 12 straight in the eyes and locking in just to really deliberately say “Gross.” over the Karai thing. 12 staring back “Rabbit.” “That’s not even canon. …D” “Don’t you dare ask me if I think he likes you.” And rise Leo piping in like “Ew 12 is allergic to being interesting, ask anyway, so who’s this guy and be honest does he like 3 furthermore is he also absolutely jacked because that is a lot of turtle, like a lot a lot of one you know what I mean, What are you Saying 12 get out of here, that is so inappropriate.” 12 just staring at him horrified. It was nice to have him not parentified straight out of the gate, and I really liked the spin on his personality (that again was a writer choice because Leo is allegedly both really difficult and not much fun to write) but as someone who came into the 87’s as my sentience was forming, Rise really is like a ‘What If’ version of the turtles that had always been varying degrees of the same people for such a long time.

I completely get the obsessive group of Rise fans. If that was my first turtles I’d be just as in love with it (although I hope not the same breed as those Insta comment kids wtf is that behaviour) but I also get why people hate on it. To a lot of fans it’s like Rise are caricatures or a fan fiction. But the thing is- that’s so fine!? Why the fuck not. It’s good, well written, immensely entertaining and so well animated (Rise is the single best animated television version of TMNT, objectively). Basically the whole of the last IDW comic run read like a big fan fiction too and it was awesome…

So yeah, Wise man say just let people enjoy things and also if someone says they don’t like a thing you do, you can be like ‘that’s fine’ and totally leave them alone. You can just like stuff without everyone else also liking it, abandon the binary 👍

I cannot express how funny this round of the Sims has been. I have several mods installed, this is important to know.

So Catra develops a crush on Luna Villareal after rudely introducing herself before class and Luna laughs and cracks a joke, the first sim who didn't dislike the rude intro. Catra, being Catra, insta crushes. I think to myself, "Guess I'm not making Glimmer or Adora this time. Go wild you crazy kids."

Catra keeps turning down the offer to join the paragons, works hard and goes home to have Weaver spontaneously yell at or slap her, and gets invited to the football team. All weirdly par for the course. Luna is sweet and silly and basically Adora, so it's kinda hilarious that she comes over every day to hang out in the refurbished garage Catra lives in.

About the time I'm thinking I gotta break these two up before the end of high school because Weaver keeps autonomously being really fucking shady with Luna (as she does), these two idiot teens have sex. Thanks deviant desires. I'm over here making sure Weaver stops being a creep for five minutes to learn the Zappity spell and the teens start banging without protection. No babies, Catra will not be dissapeared by Luna's creepy dad. But Catra's a loyal sim so now she's ride or die in love. Great.

A while passes, Catra graduates early, I'm thinking university might be a way for them to grow apart. I still kinda want to make an Adora sim for this playthrough. Luna runs over right as I'm considering it, bursts into Catra's bedroom and proposes marriage to her.

Yeah, okay, fine, I get it game, no Adora this time. Not like Luna is basically Adora, whatever, it's fine, Catra will be devastated if I say no. So I say yes.

Three days later it's the Sims valentines day and Luna invites Catra out on a date. Weaver is getting high on cocaine and complaining that I don't have alcohol in the house right now because I spent it getting her high quality cocaine, this gets me away from her antics and Catra can wine and dine her fiance. We go to a lounge and Luna keeps collapsing to her knees and crying, I'm so fucking confused. Catra keeps trying to talk to her and tell her jokes. Time is running out on the date clock and now Catra is too depressed between Luna's sadness and Weaver being an addict to even try. This is the worst valentines day ever. So far. Because a car then runs a woman over and now Catra and Luna are freaking out and crying with the crowd while the grim reaper takes his sweet fucking time playing fucking candy crush or something on his tablet, asshole.

The date ends terribly, Luna is still crying, Catra is now depressed and just wants to cry in a shower. I invite Luna to her house anyways hoping to figure out what the fuck that actually was.

Luna has a terminal illness, it turns out.

In a panic I have them elope in Weaver's shitty entryway next to the shoe rack and treadmill. Weaver is doing another fucking line of coke before coming to cheer. The eloping takes an eternity because Luna keeps collapsing. I move her to the household and pulled 10k with her. I'm thinking it's time for Dr. Barber surgery time you know?

No. Luna dramatically collapses into Catra's arms and DIES THERE. Catra is crying and babbling to her. I cannot get her to bargin with the grim reaper who suddenly knows how to use his tablet proving he was being a dick earlier, and Weaver hated Luna with a passion at this point so she's high and celebrating.

I am wondering how the fuck I recreated the heart but much sadder on accident in the sims. Catra is inconsolable and offering a candy skull to the urn. I haven't saved in forever, so I guess we are renovating the house with the money. Catra goes to look at the salt and pepper shakers before retreating to cry in her bed.

I switch to Weaver who's clapping over the whole affair which is less depressing, thinking to myself, "Well at least scumbag is still here? Is this better or worse?". And then she needs a breath of fresh air.

She will not be stopped. I am gobsmacked knowing I can't stop life tragedies, even though Weaver literally cancelled her own desire to beat Catra up due to tomfuckery from the sims gods.

A truck pulls up and kidnaps Weaver.

Catra has 300 smackeroos to her name, got engaged three days ago, married the love of her life, only to have her die in her arms, and now Weaver was kidnapped while she was crying and not around to kick their asses like fuckign McKenzie who keeps robbing us.

I have decided Catra has suffered enough. Right now she has a mindbreak status debuff, is depressed over life in general, and also terrified by the kidnapping. She deserves to do some murder as a treat. I sell enough to make the 5k and go to the cave.

Catra murders and immediately gains enough buffs from confidence and pride that she's temporarily not depressed. Weaver hugs her three times in thanks. The reaper takes so FUCKING LONG WITH HIS STUPID TABLET GOD DAMN that I regret killing that one dude at the other end of the cave he he survived the choke out and ran. Weaver apologies to Catra while I'm distracted scrolling in and out on the reaper as if he'll get motion sickness and peace out faster.

They go home and Weaver has lost her addiction status, which I think is just a bug or a glitch.

They are now living kinda happily together??????????????? Like in the most fucked up way possible, let's not get into that, but what is this?

I immediately make a new game where Catra lives down the street from Entrapta and Scorpia so there can be a meet cute super poly trio to wash whatever that was out of my mouth.

So far Catra has not wandered by despite all her fucking jogging (I am across the street two houses down HOW does she never run this way were Scorpia can see her??). Also the first night at the new house they are robbed at gunpoint and the fucker takes the fridge because Scorpia loses the fight. There is nothing left to eat except the fruitcake from the welcome wagon that automatically makes you sad.

Still better than that last game so far, but like, c'mon the tragedies are set to VERY slow, let my poor girls have a normal happy life!

The ML sucks. He is kinda bratty in the endearing way in the beginning, but after his official first full appearance in originals he is cringe and his character randomly switches from chill to worst ever asshole for no reason. I literally have no idea why Anya likes him. She admits he's hot but he doesn't have much else going for him besides like,,,having normal convos with her once in awhile. Is,,,is that the standard,,,, Idc how tragic his backstory is he's terribly written.

He can manipulate others bc he's the hottest boy ever- is pretty much his thing. All the girls around him become brain rotted upon meeting his eyes lol.

He has a random split personality btw and its cringe and not a well done portrayal of mental health at all

Anya kinda sucks. She's supposed to be our girlboss heroine but it doesn't feel like anything more than a forced gimmick the author is trying to portray. Usually she's dicked around by Axel with some tennis on the side. It really feels like Axel is the one this webtoon cares about while Anya exists to be in his circle.

"Unlike other guys who just want my body he sees me for who I am" girl did he not command you to be his stripper when you first met. Meet more dudes I promise there's better than THIS.

Also it's weird as hell how much she's sexualized. Especially when the webtoon talked about how much she didn't like having a mature body as a teen bc of how others perceived her. She's still a minor too!

The art style is trying to be mature and sexy, but bc of how wonky the anatomy gets and how much it's trying to copy a style the author is quickly using as a ref, it comes off as really cringy instead. Balloon titties and 5 layers of baby oil.

(If the ADULTS reading this look up the M A T U R E korean webtoon Sweet Guy (It's. Hentai. Lol.) and you will see exactly what I mean by copying.)

Listen, I know the author had health issues which contributed to the declining art quality, but this isn't even about that- its the switch to this complicated art style itself that was a mistake.

Story is the most important element though ofc. And here it's not well done. The set up is made up of crumbs so all the emotional moments that are supposed to be the pay off have no effect, they just feel confusing and out of place. And there's nothing likeable about any of the characters to save it. Except the mom. Bless her for putting Axel in his place once in awhile.

Idk it feels like this webtoon was tailor made to annoy me specifically. The relationship between the leads as well as their individual characters are pretty much the tropes I hate the most in a story lol. Insta love. Naive girl simping for an asshole who uses his mental health as an excuse to jerk her around. Bare minimum push back from her fake moment of growth before she's back on his bs. Etc. Etc.

Bruce, Dick, Cass, Tim, Steph, and Jason all have twitter. The first four have verified accounts (like proper verified, not the shit Musky introduced). Jason's twitter is just something like litlover666

Tim has an extra anonymous account to post absolute shit in and pick fights with. Steph picks fights on main and makes fun of Bruce constantly. Jason posts mostly book reviews with the occasional photo of whatever he's eating right now and recommendation for some mom and pop restaurant in the worst parts of Gotham. He has a cult following

Bruce's account is entirely PR. He doesn't even have the password. Not because he can't be trusted with it but because he doesn't give a fuck. Every once in a while his social media intern asks him for some photo or he texts them about a charity he wants to promote and that's the extent of his involvement

Dick is sporadic with his use. He tweets happy birthdays to everyone including members of the batfam who aren't on Twitter (see Damian) and responds to random @ s a lot

Cass mostly uses it to crosspost videos of herself dancing from Instagram and retweets Steph's shitposting

Duke, Cass, and Steph all have Instagram. Only Cass is verified, because Duke is too new to the batfam. It irritates him more than he'll admit

Again, Cass's insta is mainly photos and videos of her dancing. She also posts a lot of photos with her family tho, especially in embarrassing situations nobody knew she'd managed to capture on camera

Steph uses it mainly to lurk but her friends only stories are a LOT of fun

Duke posts his poetry on there sometimes, but mostly it's a casual Instagram with pictures of friends and family and selfies. He also posts pictures of Damian's pets every once in a while cause he thinks it's a shame Damian is too young to join the platform and post them himself (Damian is like 11 or 12 at most in my mind and Alfred actually enforces the no social media before you're 13 rule)

Only Steph and Tim have tumblrs. Jason would thrive on here, but he doesn't have time to figure out any other platform beside the one he's on. Neither Steph nor Tim told each other outright they have tumblrs, but they found each other and became mutuals anyway. Tim doesn't use the platform so much anymore, he was way more into it when he was like 13 or 14, but Steph keeps up with ALL the memes. Both accounts are anonymous but Tim has a HUGE following for telling random stories about his life that sound entirely made up except he always provides photographic evidence or some other kind of proof

Tiktok

WE PR made Bruce start a TikTok and he insisted it be a Wayne family TikTok because, again, he Did Not Want To Deal With It. Tim's supposed to be in charge of it but Dick is addicted. He has his own account too but he only ever posts on the Wayne family TikTok account, mostly to brag about his siblings' accomplishments

Cass, again, has a dance-focused account. She once posted herself dancing with Jason and everyone freaked out over who this giant dude is until he was legally brought back to life. Nobody in the batfam knows how she managed to get him to agree to participate but he was actually really good

Dick's personal account is not as active as the Wayne family account but he posts gymnastics there sometimes

Neither Alfred nor Kate are on social media for very different reasons. Babs is on every platform as a lurker, but on Twitter she interacts with Dick and Cass sometimes. Damian isn't allowed yet but once he turns 13 he becomes an absolute TERROR on twitter

Diana runs the first for the most part, basically every member of the Titans team gets their chances with it at some point for theirs, and Cassie and Tim have learned their lesson about letting anybody except the two of them tweet from the YJ account

Nightwing's account is excessively popular. A lot of people thirst follow him but also sometimes he eviscerates someone horrible and it's extremely funny

Spoiler's account is also popular for being just as feral as her civilian main

It's a recurring joke among the superhero community that everyone is very lucky that Robin doesn't have an account

Signal's account is low-key

Oracle's account is vital, she provides a lot of early warnings for civilians when there are Arkham breakouts and the like. A lot of people have notifications turned on for her account

Just like the Wayne's account, the batfam has an account. It's mostly funny bits from cowl cam but Red Robin has posted a series of videos triggering Red Hood into talking about his various interests (literature, proper gun maintenance, the actual programs that would benefit crime alley) all of which go extremely viral

2023 FFRC - May 🏉

Hello friends! I hope you had a lovely May! Aside from our ABYSMAL provincial election (Boo Hiss!) and the northern forest fires that made the local air quality the worst in the world (for a couple of days anyway) - things here have been pretty decent. Rugby season was a success, and my Bethy added a second Provincials title to her name (two days after her 17th birthday)! If you're following my Insta, you can see her making tries in eye-black and tackling down girls 4 inches taller than she is. It's been a really fun season.

Unsurprisingly, I wasn't able to read quite as much as I did last month, but I'm only 16 tasks away from finishing the whole @fanfic-reading-challenge - so that's neat. Some of those are monthly and I can't complete them until December - so I'm going to sit back and chill and just re-read stuff that I like.

This month felt less successful than last - but we also weren't down with the cold-from-hell anymore either so there was a bit less time for reading. There were also several shows I watch that ended this week - so I was watching stuff instead.

You know what is interesting? When you find a show you like so much on it's own that you don't really see out fic for it. Strange. I wonder if this is how "normal" people are - you know the ones (they say they are the ones without hyperfixations but I've BEEN to a hockey game and I know non-fic reading hyperfixations when I see them). ANYWAY - I've read a few Ted Lasso fics but haven't really sought any out. I might after the finale now though - but not because I'm searching for fixing, but because I'm not ready to say goodbye to everyone yet. I see you out there with your Midge/Lenny fics and your Succession fics - and I love you all for continuing to make art once the inspiration has concluded. You guys rock!

It's not all fluff and rainbows - but it deals with Mac's birth swap (by way of her brother marrying her sister lol) and the Cassidy feelings - and it's features Noir writer Logan writing long distance love letters to Veronica through his novels.

Notes: This might be the cutest animal rescue story since I fell in love with a pangolin. This was really sweet and true to character and a wonderful AU. It was so lovely and was exactly what I needed this month. 💙💛

CC is probably one of the worst series.

1. Love interests are boring and irrelevant. When the side couple over shadows the main even though it’s equally or more horrendous. Mind f*cking / insta love and surprise surprise she’s a villain but really a good guy! Wow

2. “Let’s vacuum up the villain that was obviously from the 2nd chapter”

3. Word jumble and confusing plot lines and a million irrelevant characters who each have to get their own chapters

4. Everyone IN LOVE with the FMC til the point it hurts and of course she has no actual girl friends because no one can outshine her!

5. The last ditch effort to make the series interesting and entertaining by adding the cross over that will ruin two or more worlds. Mixing modern tech/drugs with people that have to “winnow” to get around.

I do not think CC had any redeeming qualities and will significantly make acotar worse

CC has a much better overarching plot, for example, than ACOTAR, which basically has NO plot anymore.

CC has something definitive--a scary bad guy(s), a great mystery, and things that have to solve and resolve.

But it's so overburdened and bloated with unnecessary fat, that it's like, you forget what you are trying to solve/find out.

The 25-page long oracles scene which just went on, and on, and on and on--whyyyyy?

Emil? Whyyyyy?

Who really needs Tharion? What is even his storyline?

I would much rather have had Ruhn's love interest actually be ... bad. Not some double agent who is secretly good. It would've been so much more interesting if he fell for someone who was not good at all, and they had to work through that.

Quinlar is not an interesting ship. It reminds me of Nessian, which ultimately, stopped being an interesting ship early on, because really, there are no barriers to overcome.

Ugh, the 'everyone is in love with the FMC' thing drives me CRAZY. WHYYYYYYYYYYYY? Because it leads nowhere and makes no difference.

Again, the story is there. It just needs heaps of editing, and tightening and cleaning up.

All of this, and yes not having Sam and Dean doesn’t help and starts you at a disadvantage, plus there were other issues too.

For Bloodlines, they tried to use brand new characters that we weren’t given enough time to give enough of a shit about to be willing to watch a series about. There was also at least one retcon that I can remember (how shifters change), and they didn’t make the logic logic with why Sam and Dean would find out that Chicago was run by vampires and werewolves, and leave them in charge and alive with only a kid, who didn’t even know that supernatural stuff was real nor (as I recall) was any kind of fighter, to deal with all of that. Short version: big plot hole and characters that they didn’t get the audience invested in first.

For Wayward, there’s same logic plot hole with leaving a group of newbie amateurs and only 2 semi seasoned hunters to deal with a bunch of other world monsters. There’s also the issue with making the newbies insta-badasses (Claire having no more than 2 1/2 years of training, if that, Alex having even less since she has way less interest in it than Claire, and Patience & Kaia having 0 training) and damsel-ing the semi seasoned hunters (AND THE ACTUAL SEASONED HUNTERS FFS) so that the newbies can save them. Then there’s the issue with the insta-family BS instead of building up the family bonds (and fighting skills for that matter) organically, seeing as Jody, Alex and Claire are the only ones that had actual quality time to get to know each other and start to form familial bonds. Lastly, Claire was the worst choice for a main character, she was annoying AF, and we already knew everything worth knowing about her, Alex, Jody and Donna, while Patience was as interesting as a piece of cardboard, and Kaia, the only one that was at all interesting, was killed off in the back door pilot. Short version: same big plot hole, crap writing (of story and characters), having too many characters whose story was already fully explored, and putting the focus on the newbie group instead of the characters with the most experience, or evening it out at least were what doomed this spin-off attempt. IF, however, the writers had put some actual elbow grease into crafting a well-written story with actual organic buildup, and at least treated the newbies as the newbies that they were instead of trying to turn them into overnight sensations (and maybe stuck with what was apparently the original premise of Wayward aka Jody and Donna training the newbies, which would make all the sense in the world 🙄), it might have actually had a decent chance, but unfortunately the writers were just to lazy with this one for it to actually succeed.

Now with the Winchesters, I have watched a few episodes, and between that and clips and commentary from people who have watched all of the episodes, this one just sadly came out looking like a cringy hot mess. Firstly, about the leaked script, if I recall it correctly, it mentioned Deanna being there, but unless I missed something, she wasn’t in the series (which I don’t get, but anyways), so the script wasn’t the actual one, but it was accurate unfortunately. Now as to the issues, lack of Sam, plus the prequel debacle (since some fans are petty AF and just looking for an excuse) set the prequel back from the start, and not coming out with AU part from the beginning, when it would have been more to the benefit of the show to explain some of the apparent “retcons” as “this is where this AU world differs from the original world in the parent show”. It also didn’t help that Jensen (and co.) didn’t get a seasoned professional in show-running on board for guidance and pointers on how to do it well. Then there’s poor choice in who was brought on for lore research/confirmation, because while you technically can explain some stuff (vamps/holy water 🤦🏻‍♀️) as different worlds having different rules for somethings, I still don’t think that’s a good idea even if the explanation was put in canon, which as far as I know, it wasn’t in this case. Then there were some straight up logic fails: not pulling hair back/tucking as fully as possible in scrub cap (literally what it’s there for), the holy water in the hair, being that the hair would keep most of the water soaked in, and be far less effective than just splashing it straight out of the canteen THAT THEY HAD IT IN IN THE FIRST PLACE, and being temporarily blinded while applying it (I will never understand why the vamps didn’t take that massive opening to attack and kill, not that I actively wanted Carlos and Lata dead, but because it made the vamps look like massive dumbasses). If you want to do something cool like that right, you first have to destroy the canteen, but have a water source nearby that can be used, and the hair cannot be what is used to absorb the water, as it is the least effective method and cuts off line of sight to prep. A scrap or piece of clothing or kerchief would be better (not the absolute best objects, but a hell of a lot better than hair), while the other person uses the machete and they teamwork it that way, would probably be the best method in leu of a handheld container of holy water. The acting was overall meh, Carlos was too over-the-top, not obnoxiously so, but still too much, and (he?/they?) and Lata weren’t developed very well, which is a shame because I would have liked to see who they were had they been put out as actual good and interesting characters. Lastly, we were already given the important waypoints of John and Mary’s story and there was never as much interest in those characters themselves as there was in their relationship and interactions with their sons. Even if any of those helming the prequel were willing to promise that we would’ve gotten to see John, Mary, Dean and Sam hunting as a family and that Sam and Dean would still be very, very close eventually if the prequel lasted long enough, they would’ve had an uphill battle trying to keep their audience interested until then. Basically, The Winchesters had a lot of issues.

The type of spin-off with the most potential is one that has Sam and Dean in it: Sam and Dean the early years or AU Sam and Dean. This said I do think that there is real potential for a spin-off that actually has the work put into it to make it an actual good quality show and if it is started with the right chararcters and a good premise.

As an example making a spin-off about Max and Alicia Banes picking up where Twigs and Twine and Tasha Banes left off, using it as a back door pilot, as it actually has the perfect setup to be one. It would be about characters that we have met enough times to care about, but still left a lot to explore, and it actually makes sense for Sam and Dean not to stick around, as they have a good guess as to what happened, but don’t actually know, and Max is a grown man who can handle himself and is capable of asking them for help if he needs it. Lastly there’s also the mystery of Max’s fate, and what will ultimately happen to Alicia/the Alicia doll.

A second example is a Bobby and Rufus prequel. The characters have already become beloved, they have a great dynamic that is fun to watch, we know some things about their relationship and history, but not that much, and watching them hunt together would just be so much fun. Plus we could potentially have some wee Dean and/or wee Sam moments.

How come every supernatural spin-off failed? Supernatural bloodlines, the Winchesters, Supernatural animation.

What went wrong with them?

A lot of people don't even know the existence of Supernatural bloodlines and Supernatural animation

Jared and Jensen's lightening in the bottle chemistry pretty much cursed spin-off attempts. Those spin-offs failed because there was no Sam and Dean, especially the no-Sam part. They tried with diversity Sam in Bloodlines but that didn’t fly, but the lack of chemistry among the cast is also to be blamed. 

Then they tried to pretend Alex-the-reformed-vampire-bait and Claire-the-discontinued-barbie-Novak are female versions of Sam and Dean, but the actresses have as much chemistry with each other as a cat and a wet towel.   The no-Sam in The Winchesters was so glaring that they tried to craft John Winchester into Sam 2.0.

When Sera Gamble introduced the Campell family in season 6, I thought they were going to explore the Winchester-Campbell family tree.  There was a lot of opportunities to mine stories from that family and even a potential for a spinoff.  I think Sera Gamble had the right idea in the post-Kripke era but it seems that the numbers weren’t there for the Campbell storyline, which should have told WB that The Winchesters wouldn't have worked.

I am the absolute worst at chosing and prioritizing my faves but here goes!

1. Under these lights you look beautiful

Miles got completely lost in his voice. There was a faraway quality to it, like he belonged somewhere else entirely, but somehow had decided to grace them with his presence and Miles felt blessed to be near him if even for a short while. The subtle elegance hidden in his slender figure, the mannerisms of his fingers wrapped around the corners of his notebook. His words were spoken softly, quietly, but without any hesitation or faltering.

Alex is an elusive poet, who has a way with words and Miles is a bartender, who is completely mesmerized.

My biggest fic ever and one I spent soooooo long writing. It's the first time I felt a true connection with the people reading the story and I was honestly blown away by the love and support it received, and really made me feel part of something I had only been on the outskirts of before. I really loved writing it and even though it was so hard sometimes, it taught me so much and I challenged myself and grew a lot as a writer during the course of that story. It gave me a lot of courage and confidence in terms of writing in general and I've never felt as much as part of a community as when I was writing that one.

Aside from that I truly fell in love with the characters of Miles and Alex in that one. I loved exploring them and watching them grow, and watching their relationship bloom. I loved writing their different journeys, how they evolved through the story and how they dealt with their own problems and how they took care of each other in them, how the issues they faced made them stronger and brought them closer together and only strengthened their relationship instead of tearing it apart. I saw a lot of myself in both of them and I loved exploring and dealing with a lot of things through writing about it.

I also really really loved writing Stacy as the sort of no-bullshit best friend I'd love to have had growing up myself. I loved how feisty and spunky she turned out to be, whilst at the same time deeply caring and filled with love, and I was actually quite proud of myself for managing to pull her off.

I was also quite proud of all the different scenarios that made it into the story, all the settings and places they went, the events and the world I managed to build around them in general. Usually my stories can get a bit lost in emotions and thoughts of my characters, or move within a fairly limited setting, but I liked how "out in the world" this one turned out to be. And I'm super proud of a lot of the scenes, the pumpkin patch, the halloween party, their little picnic and make out sessions, and the entire setting at the different bar nights. I'm proud and happy that I managed to pull of my vision for this story and to have it unfold exactly how I wanted it to.

2. The element of surprise

"Yeah! I'm not one to judge, just want ya to be prepared, you know, just in case.."

"In case what?"

Jamie rolled his eyes at him.

"In case nothing. Nevermind. Forget it. Just help me find your skiing gear and we'll be off."

"Skiing?"

"Yeah, didn't you hear the lady? We're taking you on a surprise skiing trip to celebrate your birthday, mate!"

The Monkeys invite Alex skiing for his birthday and little does he know that there's a very special surprise waiting for him.

My most current fic and one that I really enjoyed writing. It's a bit silly and very sweet, and it was really what I needed myself at that time. I was so inspired by their insta snaps from the trip - Miles' hurt elbow, the gang hanging out in a hottub outside, so many of Alex's birthday skiing trips and I just had a lot of fun with it.

I loved the world building and thinking up the resort and the cabins and structurally it was interesting to work within a week's worth of story time, a set frame in which the story had to unfold, a new challenge I hadn't tried before. I also really loved having the whole gang there and try to work out how to have everyone be part of the story without really getting too much into it. And them being such little shits throughout was really a lot of fun!

I looooved writing Miles and Alex's little moments in the cabin. And I had a blast writing Alex's birthday and his presents, especially Miles' one and everything that came with it. I love friends to lovers, such a hoe for that trope, and this was such a prime example to me and it was so much fun. I love their relationship both as friends and what it grew into. It was important to highlight their strong friendship, how important they were to each other even before anything became more than platonic. And I enjoyed having Alex freak out all the time about his own emotions and I like how the confession turned out. I loved having them both be absolutely head over heels pining for each other and having the sexual frustration that comes with that in there as well.

Writing it felt very natural, like the words just came out one after the other and it felt kind of straight forward in a really nice way. It's a story that's sweet and fluffy and fun, and one I sometimes peruse through if I need a little pick me up.

3. I've been saving all my summers for you

They were 11 when they first met at the beach, now at 21 they’re back. Back at this place that became theirs. The place they became best friends.

The place where Alex fell in love for the very first time.

This one is sort of my baby in a way. It's very dear to my heart and I love it so much and it gives me so much warmth to read it and I'm so happy it managed to bring the same to others. It's one of my earlier stories and the second story I ever began work on, and it was inspired by a lyric, as so many of my stories are.

I liked trying to work around a different structure and it was so much fun trying to write through the perspectives of a few kids growing up, the way their thoughts and feelings evolved and how they got more and more introspective and reflective about their own lives and experiences. I fell so much in love with the characters in this story and I think back to the time I wrote it with such fondness. It capsulated that perfect feeling of summer and sun and holiday by the ocean, childlike play and endless laughter and slow love growing and slowly taking over everything. I just really enjoyed writing it and I sometimes reread it if I need a bit of softness.

Reading it I can still see points where I was very much still learning and growing as a writer and it's nice to be able to look back and see how far I've come.

But I'm pleased with how I managed to evolve the story, to create a bit of conflict and angst, to have arguments and them being hurt and sad and finding reasonable solutions and believable conversations to hash it all out.

4. You're so pretty and I'm so shy

“Fine, if you’re so shy then why don’t you write him a note? Like in the films, write your number on a slip of paper, give it to him or slip it into his pocket or summat.”

“That might work!”

“I was kidding Alex!”

I loved writing this one and I had so much fun writing it! I remember the dialogue just came so naturally and I'd found a really nice flow. I feel like I managed to get their voices down for the characters in a really nice way and I found the premise endlessly hilarious. I made myself laugh a lot and judging by the response other people found it funny as well. It was just a super fun process for myself and I loved trying to incorporate the texts and selfies into the story, and elements from the lyrics as well.

I loved writing Matt in this one, he was so much fun and such a shitty little enabler but also a super supportive and take-no-shit sort of friend. I love incorporating that kind of character and he is really a prime example of that. I loved their pingpong, the back and forth between Matt and Alex, their easy friendship and I loved their chemistry.

I also really got to practice my smut skills, which is a nice little bonus!

5. You just ain't the one for me

Suddenly she had an idea.

"I wanna fuck him. Miles. I wanna fuck him."

Alex made a weird choking sound.

"Pardon?"

"I wanna fuck Miles. And then I wanna watch him fuck you."

Taylor has an idea of how to spend their sunny afternoon and she's not about to take no for an answer. Sexiness ensues and she makes a few decisions about their relationship.

This one was really fun to write (even though I was super sick and had a quite high fever when I wrote it) and I thought it up, wrote it and published it all in one day, which was a little bit crazy but kinda fun as well. The premise just came to me and I couldn't let it go and I had to get it out. It's also the first time I've ever written a story as a gift for someone else, for dear @trickztr and it was a lot of fun to have that in mind as I wrote it. Couldn't have written it without her! ❤️

The story is in many ways different to my other fics, and it was such an interesting and fun challenge to try and write from Taylor's pov and to have it be something a little bit removed from the fluffy sweetness I usually gravitate towards. I'm quite proud of myself for pulling it off and I like how it turned out! It's also the first time I've written anything with different partners involved and also the first story that's been quite so pwp without much else going on. It's a brief moment in time and I liked the challenge of not going any further with it, even though some people were asking me to explore Alex and Miles' sides more, I liked where it ended, it just made a lot of sense to me. I liked trying to write a love confession that just slipped through whilst desperately pounding each other against a wall.

I really got to let loose a bit in terms of the smuttier scenes and it was fun to explore it in a different way. Aside from that, I really like the humour in it, the image of Miles' orange bucket hat floating in a pool, and I like how simple and straightforward some parts of it are. It allowed me to try a few different things and to challenge myself in new ways and I really enjoyed that.

This was super fun and I've enjoyed revisiting some of my stories and see how far I've come since I began writing for this pairing! ❤️

♡ even if neither of you can skate, it’s fun and you can learn together. having fun when he’s with you is always the aim so anything like that is something he really enjoys

♡ skinship- skinship happens very naturally for you pair and it’s something neither of you have ever shied away from. he loves it when you hold hands and it makes him feel super proud that you can show him off like that. also loves when you let him rest his head in your lap and play with his hair.

♡ his love language- quality time- creating special moments with you is something that he will never forget and something that he’ll always bring up. he’s so grateful that you want to be with him and around him even at the most randomest times when you could be doing something else, but he loves it and he doesn’t ever want to see you leave.

♡ kisses- most are short and sweet but some, rare kisses can last for a while, where he smiles onto your smile because he just can’t believe what’s happening. he really likes those kisses but doesn’t initiate them all too often because he’s worried it’s the wrong moment. he actually asks the older boys for advice too 🥺

♡ his love language- words of affirmation- hearing you saying he can do it only makes him more determined and, even though he doesn’t realise it, it actually makes him more independent. you know when he’s having a bad day, or if he’s got something important going on, so you drop him a little text which makes him so happy and he wants to make you proud (which he does and you tell him that all the time)

♡ kisses- kisses are something he craves a lot since the feeling of the first kiss you shared has stayed with him, but is always too afraid to make the first move. afterwards, he’s always a real giggly mess. every kiss is awkward with him at first since you’re both quite inexperienced, but soon you both start to understand what the other likes.

♡ introduces “tech free” dates where neither of you can use your phone. they actually work really well for you two and you get to know each other a lot better

JJ slammed the door on your suv as he got out, eyes already on the large plantation style home you were parked in the horseshoe driveway of. Despite the sunglasses he was wearing he shielded his eyes as he stared at the opposing building. “Can we talk about why you’re forcing me to come to this party if you hate all the people here?”  

“Cause they’re my friends from school. Sarah will be there too, I don’t hate Sarah.” You reasoned, grabbing the card for your friend’s birthday and making sure you had everything else on you. Keys tossed to JJ over the hood of the car as you slammed your own door shut. He slipped the lanyard around his neck.  

“No, but you constantly bitch about everyone else.”

“It’s cause they’re the worst.” You shrugged. And they were truly the worst people you knew. Like all the mean girls from every teen drama rolled into one ultimate evil entity, these girls were literal demons but you were obligated, through school hierarchy and the desire to not ruin your social standing, to attend social gatherings like birthday parties. And you’d been blowing them off lately to spend all your time with JJ.  

“But we’re going?”

“Yes.”

“I’m so confused.” JJ confessed, “you know if you don’t like someone, don’t hang out with them.”

“Says the most likable person I know.” You grabbed his hand and pulled him toward the front door.  

“Hey, just cause everyone likes me but that doesn’t mean I hang out with people I don’t like. Except you…but I really needed a new phone so-“  

You stopped to turn and smack his arm, a fake gasp leaving your lips as if you were truly offended by his teasing. “JJ! Shut up. You’re such a jerk.”

“And yet you like me.”

“Maybe.” You shrugged, “I’m good at faking it.”

“I’ve seen you with people you don’t like…you’re incapable of fake nice.” He replied.  

“Prepare to be amazed.” You leaned up, closing your eyes and pressing your lips to his for a kiss only to be interrupted by the door opening and the distinct squeal of your most hated friend. You pulled away and turned around so fast you practically gave yourself whiplash.  

“Oh my god you made it!” Scarlett bounced out of the house, wide smile on her face as crossed the threshold and wrapped you in a tight hug. Despite dry hair and skin that looked like she’d just applied a layer of body shimmer her bikini was slightly damp against your cover-up.  

“Hey! So sorry we’re late I was halfway out the door when I saw myself in the bathing suit I was gonna wear and had to change…it was not cute.”  You lied, returning the hug. You’d pit stopped first to buy a last-minute card and take money from the atm and then to get coffee. As you had reasoned with JJ, there was no way you were surviving this pool party without caffeine in your system.  

“Lies, you look good in everything.” Scarlett insisted though she’d definitely sung a different tune in the past. Her eyes landed on JJ as she stepped back and she smiled, “whose this?”

“Oh, duh, this is my boyfriend JJ, I figured when better to introduce everyone than at Ashley’s party.” You offered, stepping aside so you weren’t blocking him.  

“For sure,” She did a once over of him like he was merchandise and JJ only smiled, biting his tongue to stop himself from saying anything you would be pissed at him for. He would save his comments for the sanctity of the car. “Well I’m Scarlett, there’s a lot of people here so if you forget just let me know and I’ll tell you.”  

“Awesome.” He replied. Scarlett grabbed his free hand, pulling him away from you and beginning to drag him inside the house as you followed behind. He looked back at you, mouthing an ‘I’m gonna kill you.’

‘Airpods’ You mouthed back, ‘and you love me.”

He shook his head, a grim expression on his face but you knew he was only joking.

Despite the entire crowd being contained to the outside pool deck and yard you lost Scarlett and JJ relatively easily. Or, Scarlett lost you so she could spend quality time cozying up to your boyfriend. While you felt bad leaving him to the wolves while you found the drink table and chatted with Sarah, you weren’t too worried about him otherwise. You had heard all about JJ’s past womanizing from a wealth of jealous pogues but you didn’t have any doubt that he was faithful.  

He was a great boyfriend, better than any guy you’d dated before. Too good to be subjected to a round table of Scarlett, Ashley, and their friends. So you grabbed yourself a drink and headed over to save him.  

“Oh my god and one time-” Scarlett’s voice died off as she saw you getting closer to them and she smiled at you in faux excitement, “oh hey!”

“Hey,” you nodded at her before turning to look at JJ, “hey there you are.”  

“We were just getting to know JJ. You know, vet him and all.” Scarlett replied, leaning over her armrest to grab JJ’s arm. He shrugged her off and shifted in his seat.

“Exciting.”

“You wanna sit?” He asked, tilting his head back to look at you, pleading eyes begging you to sit down.  

“Oh I don’t think there’s a chair.” Ashley piped up, looking around the table. Four other girls occupied the chairs around them.  

“No problem, I’ll make do.” You tapped on the arm of JJ’s chair, smiling at Ashley when he moved the chair so that you could comfortably sit on his lap. He put and arm around your waist to keep you secured and laid a kiss on the side of your neck.  

“Oh, good.” Scarlett forced a smile, jaw tense. “Anyway, I was just telling JJ, do you remember that time in 8th grade when we went on that double date to the ice rink on the mainland.”  

You paled almost immediately. She was really going to play that game. “Uh…no.”  

“Oh my god!” Scarlett turned more toward JJ, wide smile on her face, “First of all, she was so chubby in 8th grade like thank god for hitting the gym and doing those CrossFit classes cause you looked like a potato. Plus she ate like everything! Do you remember that? You had like a hotdog and fries and ice cream and then we were skating and she said she didn’t feel good and she blew chunks all over the guy! Who was it, I can’t remember his name?”  

“I have no idea.” You replied.  

“Oh my god I totally remember that!” Ashley laughed. “Someone videoed it and put it up on the school’s insta...it was hilarious.”  

“Doesn’t really sound it.” JJ said, grip tightening.  

“You’re way cuter than he was anyway,” Ashley mentioned, “I think he was like a family friend or something. And you’ve stuck it out too, how long have you guys been dating?”  

“Three months.”  

“It’s good it’s the summer. You can get out before you have to experience hibernation weight.” Scarlett added and the other girls around the table laughed at the joke. You smiled nervously, trying to look unbothered by what they were saying. You should have known that the moment you sat down the attack would start, Scarlett had her eye on JJ the minute she walked out of the house.  

“What?” JJ was not laughing.  

“Oh my god, I don’t know what she does but she always gains like…what is it? Like 15 pounds?”

“Yeah.” You nodded.  

“Like 15 pounds in the winter.”  

“Yeah get her while she’s still cute cause you are way too hot to spend time stuck with someone who bloats up every winter.” Ashley replied.  

“I can’t believe I haven’t seen you around, Ashley’s right you’re super hot.”  

Suddenly Ashley smiled, reaching across the table to tap the space in front of you and get your attention. “Oh, oh my god do you remember okay, so this one time-“  

“Actually, I gotta go. I got work.” JJ said, cutting her off. He bounced his knee to signal for you to get up, “babe,”

“Yeah, of course, I’ll see you guys later.” You stood, trying to remember if JJ had told you that he had a shift today. You couldn’t think but then your mind was swimming with their insults. You were only vaguely aware of JJ grabbing your hand.  

“Seriously? You’re ditching in the middle of the party?” Scarlett asked, offended that he was leaving and even more so that he was leaving with you.  

“Yeah well,” JJ shrugged, looking over at her, “if I stay any longer I’ll probably punch one of you in the mouth so, not really in the mood to sit around and listen to you bullshit about my girlfriend.”  

“We were just joking!” Ashley insisted, “Weren’t we joking?”  

“I wasn’t laughing.” JJ replied. He tugged on your hand when you didn’t move, “come on.”  

The two of you excited the backyard and made it all the way to your car, JJ slipping in the driver’s side as you sat in the passenger seat, still trying not to have an absolute meltdown in front of him. And in front of the security cameras they would probably check later just to see if they made you cry.  

“Thanks…” You muttered, leaning against the window.  

“You weren’t kidding, they are the worst.” JJ replied as he backed down the driveway. In the santity of the car he could say what was actually on his mind and it was extensive.  

“I know.” You did know, you’d been dealing with it since you were in kindergarten and Scarlett told you that you had fat thighs. “Scarlett’s known me forever so she has years of embarrassing stories.”  

JJ nodded. He took one hand off the wheel and reached over to hold your hand. “You know I think you’re beautiful right?”  

“Yes.”  

“Yes you know and believe me or yes I don’t want to talk about it anymore so I’m agreeing with you?” He asked, glancing over at you.

You bit your lip to stop from smiling, “if you know which one it is, why are you asking?”

“Cause I want it to be the first one?” He said. “Those girls are seriously the worst.”  

“Well I hang out with them less now that Kie goes to school with me but I still have to see them sometimes. I can’t avoid it.”

“Yeah I know.”  

“Thanks for coming, and for saying you’d punch them in the mouth.” You said, laughing a little as you recalled the horrified look on Ashley’s face when he said that.  

“Them and anyone else who talks shit on you.” He replied.

Merlin and Naruto

I did Merlin here, so here’s Naruto! :D

[disclaimer for everyone: I have only watched up through Season 10 of Shippuden (the arc with the Five Kage Summit), and I am trying to avoid spoilers for everything after that point, so please don’t interact with this (including tags, because tumblr shows them to me automatically) unless you are avoiding ALL spoilers.  For me, this includes discussion about whether you like/dislike future seasons, comparisons of various seasons in terms of quality, etc.  Thanks, everyone! <3]

My favorite parent-child relationship: I know they’re not blood-related, but Iruka and Naruto have me crying every time I see them together.  Naruto straight-up says that when he’s with Iruka he feels like he knows what it’s like to have a father, and honestly, Iruka loves Naruto so much at this point that he would insta-adopt him if Naruto asked.  I love how Naruto always cites Iruka as the first person who cared for him even later in the show when Iruka hasn’t had as much screentime, and when I saw Iruka cry because he’s so proud of Naruto at the end of the Pain arc, it was just...too much for my little heart to handle.

My favorite sibling relationship: You know, thinking about it, almost all of the people in Naruto are only children, as far as we know!  But in terms of just that sibling vibe - Sakura and Naruto definitely give me that feel.  I know he has a crush on her, but their relationship has always felt more sibling-like to me, and I especially love how deep their bond has become by the time we get to Shippuden.  They are just so comfortable with each other now - the depth of the love and friendship they feel for each other is palpable.  

My favorite family relationship (other): I adore Naruto’s relationship with Jiraiya.  That scene where Naruto falls asleep against his back almost killed me, and Jiraiya’s later line, “Your smile is my salvation” - that was too much.  It absolutely destroyed me.  The way Jiraiya kind of gave up on everything after his old life went to hell - neverending wars, Orochimaru gone, his original students dead, his student’s students dead, Minato dead - he just ran away after that, and it was meeting Naruto that kind of rekindled that spark of hope in him and helped him reconnect with his community and rediscover a sense of purpose in his life.  Naruto enabled him to finally come home, and I think that’s beautiful.

My favorite friendship between two people: There are so many friendships in Naruto that I love (one of the greatest things about this show for me has been how little focus is given to romantic relationships, at least so far; it’s very much a friendship-oriented show), but right now I’m in a bit of a Kakashi-Yamato hole.  I was super primed to not like Yamato when he first showed up, because him being there meant that my favorite character WASN’T there, and also he ended up replacing Kakashi on the one mission where the team finally found Sasuke, but the guy won me over in the end.  He is one of my favorite characters now - my heart just swells every time I see him - and I think his relationship with Kakashi is super interesting.  I’ve written before about how Kakashi’s only truly intimate friendships are with people who are dead, and I do think that applies when it comes to Yamato, too, even though the two of them are obviously very companionable and close.  There is still a level to that relationship where Kakashi is a bit of a mentor figure, the “superior officer,” which results in a degree of (still friendly and affectionate) distance.  And as with all of his other relationships, Kakashi doesn’t really confide in Yamato about his life or open up to him in the same way that he does when he talks to his dead friends - but at the same time, there is an element to their relationship that doesn’t exist in Kakashi’s other friendships, and it’s the fact that Kakashi trusts Yamato with his kids, implicitly and without reservation.  Kakashi’s entire life right now is very much enmeshed in what happens to his students, and even if he doesn’t necessarily talk about that with Yamato, Yamato is still deeply involved in that work.  Yamato VOLUNTEERED for that work.  And he continues to dedicate himself to it even when his first mission as Kakashi’s stand-in ends up going completely off the rails and turning into WAY more than he signed up for.  He keeps doing his utmost for Kakashi’s kids without it even being his original responsibility, and that is such an unusual thing, for Kakashi, who in every other circumstance is always the one stepping in to help other people, the one who always shoulders his burdens alone.  Nobody ever asks Kakashi if he needs help with these incredibly high-needs children, and neither does Yamato - but the difference is that Yamato jumps in to help regardless, and he stays no matter how complicated things get.  That’s huge, and it’s only going to become more important.  It’s just - it is difficult for Kakashi to have intimate friendships with people who don’t share his history, and this rules out almost everybody else in the world, because all the people who truly share his own history are dead.  But the degree to which Yamato has altruistically and irreversibly entwined himself into the most important parts of Kakashi’s new history - the chapters being written right now, the ones that are going to define the rest of Kakashi’s life - means that Yamato is well on his way to breaking through that wall and becoming the first exception to a universal rule. [There is a lot to be said on Kakashi’s side of this, too, like - every time Kakashi refuses to call Yamato by his code name I lose my mind just a little bit, and I have MANY thoughts about Kakashi basically dragging folks who’ve been victimized or exploited or experimented on out of ANBU and then absorbing them into his own team, where they become a part of a family-type unit that respects them and cares about them and treats them like human beings.  I mean, there’s a huge difference between the Yamato we meet in S2 vs. the Yamato we know in S10 (and the same thing goes for Sai!) - and that’s something I think about a lot.]

My favorite friendship between a group:  I love all of the team dynamics, but Team Gai is a fave XD  The absurd contrast between oh-so-serious Neji vs. Gai/Lee’s incredible goofiness (with Tenten’s exasperation in between) is comedy gold.  I screamed with laughter in S1 when Gai was trying to get Neji to put his hand in the circle and do their “shout a slogan like a sports team” thing - I’ve never seen anything funnier on this show than jonin!Neji trying to put up with Gai’s antics.  

My favorite mentorship: My favorite mentorship is always Kakashi and whichever kid happens be onscreen with him at that moment, but I’ll be honest and say that Kakashi+Sasuke was the first dynamic that got me actually invested in this show (as opposed to me just watching it because it was on and not really caring what happened to any of the characters).  They are still the mentorship dynamic about which I have the most complex feelings, and that is especially true after the last season we watched.  I will probably end up making a separate post about this, because I still have not written down all of my thoughts about the end of Season 10 and I am still trapped in my feelings about this very lost child and the only adult who ever tried to help him the way he deserved to be helped, and I know I have way more to say about them than I can reasonably fit in this bullet point.  But - the short version is that I am super compelled by the way that every tragedy that’s befallen Kakashi is precisely what shapes him into the only adult who can help this particular kid, the way seemingly senseless events ended up putting Kakashi in a position where he’s the only adult who can intervene on this kid’s behalf many, many years later.  The way Sasuke’s plight (and the potential that Kakashi has to help him) suddenly grants meaning to the worst parts of Kakashi’s life - that knocks me on my butt.  

My favorite rivalry: So I probably would not have said this until the episode where Kakashi comes three seconds away from being made Hokage, but I’m gonna say Gai & Kakashi, solely to express my love and appreciation for Gai in that episode.  This is the ep where Gai challenges Kakashi to a race through the entire village (as a sort of “last hurrah before we can’t do this kind of silly shit anymore” thing) and Kakashi is initially kind of reluctant to do it, because he’s stressed out about a lot of things, but he does end up agreeing to it, and then he has SO much fun, and I LOVED this so much; I can’t even tell you.  This moment takes place immediately after Kakashi returns from that horrible, awful confrontation with Sasuke, and everything preceding this scene was very hard for me to see, because everybody is just asking Kakashi to do more and more and more for them without giving him even a hot minute to be like “i almost just killed my own kid.  i almost just had to kill my own kid, who was trying to kill my other kid, who was trying to kill kid #1 first, so i wouldn’t have assume the burden of killing him myself.”  Nobody checks on him, nobody asks, and Kakashi has to just hold onto that horror and also fret over the uncertain yet chilling secrets that Madara Uchiha disclosed and also prepare to shoulder the crushing weight of an office he never asked for - AND THEN.  GAI SHOWS UP.  And even though Gai doesn’t really know what happened, he still checks Kakashi over from top to bottom to make sure he’s in one piece, and then he drags him into this stupid competition, and it makes Kakashi LAUGH.  They go running all out across the craterized scene of devastation that used to be their home, and they have FUN doing it, and Kakashi straight-up tells Gai, “This was just what I needed,” which - god.  It would be great if Kakashi had somebody he could actually talk to, sure, but there’s also a space in our lives for people who just cheer us up, no questions asked.  It’s like when you tell someone you have a problem and they ask, “Do you want to talk about it or do you want to be distracted?”  Sometimes you don’t need to talk about it.  Sometimes you just need people who will take you for a goofy footrace and make you feel like you’re running too fast for any of your troubles to ever touch you again, for a few minutes. 

My favorite hatred/antipathy: The answer to this question used to be Kakashi and Itachi, and while I’m even MORE fascinated by their dynamic now than ever, it’s taken on a whole new dimension, given that I think Itachi is (secretly) thrilled to see someone like Kakashi so committed to taking him down and keeping Sasuke safe.  So, in place of that, I’ll just say that I love how much all of the Akatsuki cannot stand each other XD  Almost none of them get along, and it makes me laugh every time - I can’t believe they ever get anything done, though I guess that’s to be expected when you get that many super-criminals together in a room.  I especially love how they all think Orochimaru is so stupid...cannot get over them laughing at him and his body-snatching immortality schemes.

My favorite potential relationship between characters who never talk in canon: Okay, these are both silly answers, but - I would have KILLED to see Jiraiya interacting with Minato’s team.  Like, I’m certain they spent time together, but honestly, what I wouldn’t give to have witnessed some of it.  All I could think about during that mini-arc where Jiraiya teaches Naruto how to sync up with Gamariki was how little!Kakashi would have taken one look at the dancing frogs and decided he would be using dog!summons for the rest of his life; meanwhile Obito would have already been in the frog’s mouth begging to be launched into the air like a cannonball.  Also - my sister said the other night how it is a CRIME that we never got to see Sasuke forced to interact with Jiraiya and honestly, that is too true.
