Writer tag game
Thank you @skibasyndrome and @iwouldnevergetintofanfic for the tag 💜
How many works do you have on AO3?
74 including works I’ve made anonymous for various reasons, 29 that are available under my pseuds. Most of these are oneshots.
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
517,195 including the anonymised works
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Young Royals at the moment but I have written for several other fandoms. I tend to focus on one fandom at a time.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Excluding the anonymous fics:
Redefine Perfection (Welcome to Night Vale) 2,591 kudos
Introduction to Unconscious Bias (Community) 1,802 kudos
maybe now maybe here tonight (Young Royals) 1,206 kudos
Endgame Studies for False Beginners (Community) 892 kudos
Intro to Lust Bridling (Community) 838 kudos
I love seeing maybe now maybe here tonight so high up! It’s only a year old, whereas Redefine Perfection is from 2013 and the Community fics are all from 2020.
5. Do you respond to comments?
I try to, at least on recent fics.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I’d say Sabotage, although that’s a ficlet of less than 500 words, so I’m not sure you can say it even has an ending. The whole thing is nothing but angst.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Most of my fics are getting (back) together fics, so they have happy endings. I don’t think I can pick the happiest one.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not recently, but I have in the past, mostly because I failed to cater to the commenter’s preferences for top/bottom dynamics 🙄
9. Do you write smut?
I have in other fandoms but not yet in YR. However, the idea I’m currently tinkering with would include an explicit sex scene, so maybe that will change.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I don’t.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes, a couple of my old fics have been translated into Chinese and Russian.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Once a long time ago.
14. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
A strangers to lovers fic I’ve just started working on. I love the idea and I have the whole story arc ready in my head but I fear I’ll lose motivation before I can finish it.
15. What are your writing strengths?
I think I’m quite good at showing a character’s emotions through their inner monologues, maybe? Especially if what they’re feeling is hopeless pining. That’s probably my main writing strength 😂
16. What are your writing weaknesses?
I’d say endings. I feel most of my longer fics don’t have very satisfying endings.
17. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
It only works in very rare situations. For me, nine times out of ten the better choice is to avoid it.
18. First fandom you wrote for?
Harry Potter (it hurts to say it now)
19. Favourite fic you’ve written?
That’s so hard to say (mostly because I have a terrible memory). I’ll say Introduction to Unconscious Bias overall and chapter 4 of maybe now maybe here tonight for YR 💜
I’m doing this so late, I think everyone has already been tagged multiple times. If you haven’t and want to have a go, consider yourself tagged!

wip last line tag game
tagged by the lovely @theimprobable1, whose trobed fics i find myself going back to over and over again. terribly sorry everyone but the stranger things brainrot has finally got to me, so you get this:
“This has absolutely nothing to do with Eddie,” Steve says blankly, trying not to make it obvious that he’s wearing Eddie’s t-shirt. At least he had the foresight not to pick the Hellfire tee when he left the trailer in a hurry earlier, or he may as well have been wearing a label that said ‘Property of Eddie Munson’ around his neck. Eddie probably would have loved that. Should he actually make a label? Change the subject, Steve.
if you are a writer and you want to share what you’ve been working on, please consider this an open invitiation!
#my main contribution to the stranger things fandom: i think steve harrington owns a label maker#shut up sian#you might assume that this means i'm writing steve/eddie but actually both fics i've been working on have been aggressively platonic#doesn't mean i'm not sprinkling it in there. as a treat#my writing#stranger things#anyway everyone go read history of sexuality#intro to lust bridling#and advanced bathing etiqutte#just three of my favourites by theimprobable1!!!

1. I need you to know I read the Brad Bakshi roleplay fic without even knowing who Brad Bakshi was and it fundamentally changed me as a person so thank you and also not thank you for that. 2. I'm watching Community straight through for the first time and like...Troy's text to Abed in Pillows and Blankets is heartbreaking??? Are there any fics that ever address this bc I don't think the show fully acknowledged how DEVASTATING that was (for Abed obvi but mostly for me as a Trobed shipper tbh)
1. thank you!!! (and you're welcome, I think? lol)
2. This is definitely addressed in some fics! Here are a few of my faves:
Applied Repentance and Reconciliation by my good friend @1mechanicalalligator
Behind the Camera (Transcript) by another good friend @greenandhazy (this is part of a series which I highly recommend)
Intro to Lust Bridling by @theimprobable1
and more! (also check out the rest of the works from these authors as they are all incredible 🖤)

2020 Fic Year in Review
Nobody tagged me but I decided to do this anyway just because I can
Total number of completed stories: 11
Total word count: 69,986 on AO3, plus more sitting in my drafts
Fandoms written in: Community
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d expected? Definitely more. I didn’t write much in 2019 and I didn’t expect to find a new obsession.
What’s your own favourite story of the year? Probably Introduction to Unconscious Bias. I like rereading that one and it has the fewest things I’d change. In some ways it was also the most satisfying to write because the scenes just came to me on their own. The night I started writing it I got barely any sleep because every time I lay down I got a new idea that I had to write down immediately and it just felt so good to feel inspired. It’s also my only fic that that has a (brief) scene with the entire study group and I’m proud of how it turned out because I find it hard to juggle more than two characters at a time.
Did you take any writing risks this year? Uh… I wrote a pegging fic? (Don’t look me in the face) I don’t know if that counts as a risk but it’s definitely a departure from my usual fare in more ways than one and I was nervous about posting it.
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the new year? Keep writing. I feel pretty uninspired at the moment and there’s a chance I’ve exhausted all my Community ideas, but writing fic has definitely improved my quality of life this year so I’d like to keep at it.
Most popular story of the year? Introduction to Unconscious Bias (by kudos)
Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: I don’t know if any of my stories should be more appreciated than they are, but Real-Life Consequences of Role-Playing Games has the worst hits-to-kudos ratio. Which probably makes sense because it has a pretty narrow target group and the way it’s written won’t work for a lot of people, and I also think it’s a fic that people might skim through out of curiosity without intending to actually read it. There are definitely things I’d change about it but it has some good character moments that I really like.
Also maybe The Actor Inside, but I think the flaw with this one is that it’s probably kind of confusing unless the episode it’s based on is fresh in your memory.
Most fun story to write: Hmm… I had fun writing all of them, but probably Intro to Lust Bridling. I made myself laugh with that one.
Biggest disappointment: That I didn’t write this idea.
Biggest surprise: That I wrote so much (for me). Every time I posted something I felt like “this is it, I’m all out of ideas”, and then I wasn’t.

20 Questions For Fic Writers
Thank you @darktwistedgenderplural and @malinthebodyguard for the tag!
How many works do you have on Ao3?
24 that are currently available under my pseuds and 45 that I have made anonymous for various reasons
What's your total Ao3 word count?
481,107
What fandoms do you write for?
I only tend to write for one fandom at a time, so YR right now. I have also written for Community, Shadow and Bone, the Simon Snow trilogy (Carry On), Welcome to Night Vale and The English (side note: please watch The English (2022) it’s amazing and will break your heart!) Plus a couple of other fandoms with the anonymous fics.
Top five fics by kudos:
Excluding the anonymous fics:
Redefine Perfection (WTNV) 2,480 kudos
Introduction to Unconscious Bias (Community) 1,650 kudos
maybe now maybe here tonight (YR) 954 kudos – you guys work hard! That’s my most recent fic, whereas Redefine Perfection is nearly 11 years old.
Endgame Studies for False Beginners (Community) 853
Intro to Lust Bridling (Community) 787
Do you respond to comments?
I try to
What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Probably and then, one day, you miss but the ending is really only angsty because it’s a missing scene and you know what happens next in the show.
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
It’s hard to say, most of my fics have happy endings. Probably History of Sexuality because they get married.
Do you get hate on fics?
Not recently, but I have in the past. I dared to write a fic where one half of the fandom’s most popular pairing ended up with an OC. Also, some people are weirdly obsessed with top/bottom dynamics and heaven forbid you write something that doesn’t comply with their headcanons.
Do you write smut?
Occasionally.
Craziest crossover:
N/A
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes, several.
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yes, once.
All time favourite ship?
Don’t make me choose between my children 😭
(But it’s probably trobed. Sorry to say this on my YR blog but it’s the friends to lovers for me)
What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
The one I’m writing right now 😭
What are your writing strengths?
Pining. It’s also my favourite thing to write. I love it when canon gives me a character who’s born to stare forlornly at the love of their life (looking at you Wilhelm)
What are your writing weaknesses?
I suppose my greatest weakness is losing interest too quickly. Most of my fics are one shots for a reason. I really admire writers who stick to writing the same fic for years, I could never do that.
Thoughts on dialogue in another language?
It can occasionally work well but it’s very rare. Most of the time, either your POV character doesn’t understand what’s being said so it makes no sense to include the dialogue, or they do and therefore so should your reader.
In YR specifically, it doesn't make sense to me when fics include words in Swedish. Everything the characters say is in Swedish, not just those words. (No criticism to people who do this, it just sort of breaks the immersion for me, I guess.)
First fandom you wrote in?
Harry Potter
Favourite fic you've written?
Introduction to Unconscious Bias. I’m ambivalent about a lot of my fics but I do love this one.
I don't know who hasn't done this yet, consider yourself tagged if you want to!
