i wanted to make a post about a thing but the more i think about it the more i want to say and it's just going to end up being a big ramble essay, so instead i'll just give the thesis statement, thusly:
as the #1 Ratgrinders Apologist (self-appointed), of course they're the final boss fight to the death. i expected nothing less and the people trying to make discourse about it are ignoring the entire context of this being a Dungeons and Dragons game
#they're not playing 'discuss our traumas and and try to help strangers grow: the game'#they're playing 'murder people for getting in our way: the game'#which i know is now me being snubbing about D&D as a game but like. siobhan said it: theyve committed SO much murder#did the lunch lady in episode 2 deserve to be murdered? did the skater dwarves deserved to be murdered?#did the monsters the school sicced on the kids in their Last Stand deserve to be slaughtered like that??#its literally the name of the game!#the two things that are turning this into a bigger essay are 1) me being actually very disappointed in Burrow's End with how the players#just did not want at all to engage with the moral greyness aabria was trying to bring into the story#it was clear that was a direction she wanted to explore and i wanted to see it explored#but even OUT of characters the cast just would NOT engage or acknowledge the validity of that direction#and there was only so much aabria could do without being labeled a killjoy... because D&D often ISN'T a game for reckoning with#the justification of your character's actions! its a game for killing giant bears and saving the town from cultists!!#baked into the foundation of the game conceit is 'you are the hero and you are saving the day ergo your actions are Right and Just'#thing 2) i just listened to that WWW fireside the other day where brennan goes on about how combat does not get in the way#of story in dnd. that whole stove metaphor? and it rankled me so much lol because like aabria finally says after that:#yeah you bring your own food to the stove but when what you've got is a stove. the food you make is GOING to get cooked#combat and fighting and killing is baked into the system from its foundation. acting like D&D or even just d20 (the system)#is a resolution engine that also allows fighting and not a fighting engine that also allows other skills is. wishful thinking i think#and to bring this back to the POINT: of COURSE they're going to kill the rat grinders! because it's fun!#because thats how you resolve conflict in a combat game! straight up i honestly believe a lengthy conversation trying to win the kids over#would have been a weird energy to end the season on! it would have been a let down!#it would have been a huge tonal shift. because the tone you bring to a D&D game is 'killing this is fine actually'#and if you dont like that you /dont/ play D&D. its not a value judgment#i LOVE getting into moral implications and justifications and ive gotta tone it down when i run D&D games because it can kill the vibe#anyway. i said i wasnt going to write the whole essay and im not. but i did write most of the rant oops

»Need a ride, doll?« He slowed his car to match my walking pace and looked up at me, slightly bending down to make out my face.
As I had already heard him approach by the all too familiar sound of the engine roaring, I didnât need to look at him to know who was asking me. Not to mention the pet name heâd given me in that sentence.
I scoffed, clearly annoyed.
»No thanks. I hate your guts, remember?« I walked straight ahead.
»Come on, doll. Youâre gonna get cold or kidnapped if you donât sit your precious butt on my passenger seat and bless me with your company.«
He pushed all the buttons.
»Do you want me to list you all the things Iâd rather do than that?« Still no eye contact.
»In fact Iâd rather get cold and kidnapped.«
Bucky chuckled. »I canât be that bad. Besides, Nat asked me to.«
I almost whip my head to look at him.
»She said you were going home but too stubborn to pay a cab.« He explained.
I groaned in response.
»Guess she forgot to mention that Iâm also too stubborn to let you drive me home. Youâll end up wanting something from me, too.« I looked ahead again.
Bucky's silver tongue and charming smile did nothing to sway me. I rolled my eyes and continued walking, refusing to give him the acknowledgment he craved. His ego was already inflated enough without me feeding into his delusions of grandeur.
»Doll, don't be like that,« he whined, his car crawling alongside me. »I'm just trying to help. And Nat's worried about you walking home alone at night.«
I scoffed. »I don't need your heroics, Barnes. I'm perfectly capable of taking care of myself.« The mere thought of being indebted to him made my skin crawl.
Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed him studying me intently, his gaze lingering a bit too long for my liking. »You know, you're even more gorgeous when you're angry.«
I felt the heat rise to my cheeks, cursing myself for allowing his words to affect me. I laughed to cover it up. »Save your flattery for your mindless admirers. I'm not interested.«
Bucky chuckled, undeterred by my sharp rebuke. »We'll see about that, doll.«
I couldn't help but feel the weight of Bucky's persistent gaze burning into my back as I walked ahead. As much as I loathed the idea of accepting his offer, the chill of the night air was starting to seep through my thin jacket. And deep down, I knew Natasha would have my head if she found out I had refused his help.
Stifling a sigh, I turned back to face Bucky, who perked up instantly at the sight of me approaching his car again.
»Changed your mind?« he asked smugly, a roguish grin spreading across his face.
I leveled him with a stern glare. »Don't get any ideas, Barnes. I'm only doing this because Nat asked you to, not because I want to.«
His smile only widened as he leaned over to push open the passenger door. »Whatever you say, sweetheart.«
Resigning myself to my fate, I slid into the seat, doing my best to maintain as much distance between us as possible. The lingering scent of his cologne was already making my head spin, and I had to fight the sudden urge to lean in closer.
As Bucky drove off, I kept my gaze fixed resolutely out the window, determined not to give him the satisfaction of my attention. But I couldn't ignore the furtive glances he kept throwing my way, or the way his fingers tapped restlessly against the steering wheel.
»You know, I'm actually surprised you agreed to let me drive you.« he said conversationally, breaking the awkward silence.
I grimaced in response. »Don't read too much into it. This doesn't change anything between us.«
»Oh, I wouldn't be so sure about that, doll.« His voice dropped to a low, almost seductive rumble. »I have a feeling this is the start of something special.«
I felt my pulse quicken at his words, and I silently cursed my traitorous body for reacting this way. Bucky was the last person I should be entertaining any kind of feelings for. And yet, a tiny part of me couldn't help but wonder if maybe, just maybe, there was more to him than his cocky, womanizing facade.
I quickly shook off the brief moment of weakness, reminding myself sternly of Bucky's well-known reputation around campus. The last thing I needed was to get caught up in his web of charm and false promises.
»Don't flatter yourself.« I scoffed, turning my head to fix him with a pointed glare. »I have zero interest in you and your games.«
Bucky's brows furrowed slightly at my sharp tone, but the confident smirk never left his lips. »Ouch, doll. You wound me with your harsh words.« He placed a hand dramatically over his heart. »But I happen to know there's more to you than this prickly exterior you insist on maintaining.«
I rolled my eyes, unable to suppress my growing annoyance. »You don't know anything about me, I made sure of that. And I have no intention of letting you find out.«
»We'll see about that,« he murmured, his gaze flickering briefly to my lips before returning to the road ahead.
The rest of the short drive passed in tense silence, save for the occasional attempt from Bucky to engage me in conversation. I steadfastly ignored his efforts, staring out the window and willing myself to remain indifferent to his presence.
As we pulled up to the curb outside my dorm, I wasted no time in hastily unbuckling my seatbelt and making a beeline for the door. But just as I reached for the handle, Bucky's voice stopped me in my tracks.
»You know, Y/n, I'm not going to give up that easily.« His tone was low and sincere, lacking the usual playful bravado. »There's something about you that intrigues me, and I'm determined to find out what it is.«
I froze, a strange fluttering in my chest at the unexpected use of my name. Cursing myself for the involuntary reaction, I steeled my resolve and turned to fix him with a cold stare.
»Well, you can save your efforts, Barnes. I have no interest in being another notch on your bedpost.« Without waiting for a response, I yanked open the door and stepped out, hurrying towards the safety of my dorm room, Bucky's lingering gaze burning into my back.

As the weekend approached, I had been blissfully free from any unwanted encounters with Bucky. But of course, that reprieve couldn't last forever.
Natasha had been relentless in her efforts to get me to join the group for a party on campus, and despite my better judgment, I eventually caved. After all, it had been ages since I'd let loose and socialized outside of our usual tight-knit friend circle.
So with a heavy sigh, I begrudgingly allowed Natasha to help me get ready, knowing full well that my run-ins with Bucky were inevitable. As we made our way to the frat house, my stomach twisted with a mix of reluctance and dreaded anticipation.
Sure enough, the moment we stepped through the crowded doorway, I spotted Bucky holding court in the center of the room, a gaggle of giggling girls hanging on his every word. His eyes immediately found mine, and a roguish grin spread across his face as he excused himself from his adoring entourage and sauntered over to where Natasha and I stood.
»Well, well, if it isn't the most breathtaking woman in the room,« he purred, his gaze blatantly raking over my form. I resisted the urge to squirm under his intense scrutiny, cursing the heat that crept up my neck.
»Bucky,« I replied coolly, nodding in greeting. »Fancy seeing you here.«
His chuckle sent a shiver down my spine. »Where else would I be, doll? This is my domain, after all.«
He leaned in, his breath ghosting across my cheek. »And I've been waiting all week to see that pretty face of yours.«
I bristled at his audacity, taking a subtle step back to put some much-needed distance between us. »Well, you've seen it. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go mingle with people who actually interest me.«
Bucky's expression darkened momentarily, but he quickly recovered, the arrogant grin returning to his lips. »I'll be right here, doll, when you change your mind.«
Ignoring the flutter of irritation in my chest, I turned on my heel and headed deeper into the party, determined to put as much space between Bucky and myself as possible. But try as I might, I couldn't shake the persistent feeling of his gaze following my every move.
Eager to distance myself from Bucky's overwhelming presence, I quickly sought out my friends, gravitating towards the familiar comfort of their company. Natasha greeted me with a warm smile, immediately engaging me in lively conversation.
I felt myself starting to relax, allowing the pulsing music and chatter of the party to wash over me.
However, my brief respite was soon shattered as an unfamiliar guy, slightly inebriated, approached and inserted himself into our group.
His gaze lingered a bit too long on me, and before I could react, he reached out and placed his hand on the small of my back, leaning in closer than I would have liked.
»Hey there, gorgeous,« he murmured, his breath laced with the stench of alcohol. »You look like you could use some company.«
I stiffened, shooting him a sharp glare and subtly attempting to shift away from his touch. »I'm quite content with the company I have, thanks,« I replied, my voice laced with a hint of warning.
But the guy seemed undeterred, his hand sliding down to graze my hip. »Aw, come on, sweetheart. Don't be like that. I just wanna show you a good time.«
Just then, a firm hand clamped down on the man's shoulder, yanking him away from me. I whirled around to find Bucky standing there, his normally playful features twisted into a menacing scowl.
»I believe the lady made it clear she's not interested,« he growled, his grip tightening on the other man's shirt. »I suggest you keep your hands to yourself.«
The guy's eyes widened in alarm, and he quickly raised his hands in surrender. »Whoa, hey man, no need to get all aggressive. I was justâ«
»I don't care what you were doing,« Bucky interrupted, his voice low and dangerous.
»If I see you touch her again, I'll break every bone in your body. Got it?«
The man nodded frantically, practically scurrying away in terror. Bucky's gaze followed him until he disappeared into the crowd, and then, to my surprise, his eyes softened as they settled on me.
»You okay, doll?« he asked, his voice uncharacteristically gentle.
I blinked, momentarily caught off guard by the genuine concern etched on his features. »I... yes, I'm fine,« I stammered, cursing myself for the slight tremor in my voice. »I had the situation under control, you know.«
Bucky chuckled, the corner of his lips quirking up in a half-smile. »I'm sure you did, doll. But a guy can't help but want to protect the people he cares about, now can he?«
Before I could respond, he winked and sauntered off, leaving me standing there, utterly bewildered by the sudden shift in his demeanor.

As the night wore on, the initial discomfort I'd felt in Bucky's presence began to dissipate, thanks in no small part to the steady flow of alcohol. Wanda, ever the reliable wingwoman, had insisted on keeping my glass full, and I found myself gradually letting my guard down and embracing the carefree atmosphere of the party.
At some point, I found myself chatting with a guy from one of my literature classes â Michael, if I remembered correctly. Unlike Bucky's brash and overbearing advances, Michael's approach was refreshingly subtle and respectful. We exchanged playful banter, our laughter mingling with the pulsing beats of the music.
I couldn't help but notice Bucky hovering nearby, his brow furrowed in a deep frown as he watched our interaction. Whenever Michael would lean in a little closer or gently brush his hand against mine, Bucky's jaw would visibly tighten, his fingers curling into fists at his sides.
Part of me couldn't help but feel a twinge of satisfaction at the visible display of his jealousy. After all, he had done nothing but annoy and infuriate me with his relentless attempts to win me over. Now, it seemed, the tables had turned.
As the conversation with Michael grew more animated, I found myself subconsciously gravitating towards him, my body language becoming more open and inviting.
I could feel Bucky's intense gaze burning into me, and when our eyes finally met, the raw emotion I saw there sent a shiver down my spine.
Without a word, Bucky abruptly turned and disappeared into the crowd, leaving me feeling a strange mix of triumph and â dare I admit it â a hint of regret. I shook off the unsettling sensation, refocusing my attention on Michael and the growing warmth of his companionship.
Perhaps this was the opportunity I needed to move on from the relentless pursuit of one James Buchanan Barnes. As the night wore on, I found myself leaning in closer to Michael, our laughter and flirtatious banter picking up in intensity. If Bucky wanted to play the jealousy game, then so be it. I was more than willing to show him that I had no qualms about exploring other avenues.
As the evening wore on, my flirtations with Michael grew increasingly bold, fueled by the hazy euphoria of alcohol. But just as I was about to lean in for what I hoped would be a promising kiss, a familiar voice cut through the pulsing music.
»Alright, Y/n, time to call it a night.«
I turned to find Natasha standing there, her arms crossed over her chest and a stern expression on her face. Behind her, Bucky hovered awkwardly, his gaze firmly fixed on the ground.
»What? No, I'm fine,« I protested, my words slightly slurred. »I'm having a great time with Michael.«
Natasha's eyes narrowed as she glanced over at my would-be suitor. »I'm sure you are. But I think it's best if we head out. Come on, Y/n.«
I opened my mouth to argue further, but the look on Natasha's face told me it would be a futile endeavor. Sighing in resignation, I turned to face Michael, who was watching the exchange with a puzzled expression.
»I'm really sorry about this,« I murmured, offering him an apologetic smile. »My friend can be a little... overbearing sometimes.«
Michael chuckled, reaching out to give my hand a gentle squeeze. »No worries. Maybe we can pick this up another time?«
I nodded, my heart fluttering with a hint of excitement at the prospect. But before I could say anything else, Bucky's voice cut in, low and gruff.
»I'll take her home,« he muttered, his gaze still averted.
Natasha shot him a pointed look. »Thank you, Bucky. I'd appreciate that.«
I opened my mouth to protest, but Natasha silenced me with a firm shake of her head. Reluctantly, I allowed Bucky to guide me through the crowded party and out the door, his hand hovering just above the small of my back.
The walk to my dorm was shrouded in an uncomfortable silence, broken only by the occasional glance I stole in Bucky's direction. He seemed uncharacteristically subdued, his usual bravado and confidence nowhere to be found.
As we approached the entrance to my building, I finally found the courage to speak up. »You know, I didn't need your help back there. I was perfectly fine with Michael.«
Bucky's jaw tightened, and he finally met my gaze, his eyes reflecting a swirl of emotions I couldn't quite decipher. »Yeah, well, maybe I just wanted to make sure you got home safe, doll.« he murmured, the nickname slipping out almost involuntarily.
I scoffed, crossing my arms over my chest. »Since when do you care about my wellbeing, Barnes? Last I checked, you were probably just interested in adding me to your list of conquests.«
Bucky's expression faltered, and for a brief moment, he looked almost... hurt. »Maybe you don't know me as well as you think you do, Y/n.«
Before I could respond, he turned on his heel and walked away, leaving me standing there, thoroughly perplexed by the unexpected shift in his demeanor.

Meet the OC - Sinesi Aclyda

Personality:
A carefree and coquettish girl, with an omnipresent smile of who knows better than you. She may carry herself with an air of superiority, but a bit of flattery is all it takes to win her over.
All her problems are hers alone and, for that reason, she tend to keep others out of them. Seeing her open up to someone is a rare sight, very few people can say they've seen her vulnerable side. Her strong and resolute nature allowed her to fight one of the deepest sorrow she ever felt, but she risked being overwhelmed by it on several occasions. Among all her friends, Vil Schoenheit seems to have the best influence on her. Despite he often claiming he hate her innate passion for lowbrow cinema, he's always there to bring her back down to earth, perhaps the only one truly capable of making her question her choices and pushing her to take a step back. She's quick to anger and when someone is asking her for help, she's always answering in an annoyed tone, but she ends up helping out, even if she sulks the whole time. Just flattering her ability is enough to soften her up. Both with friends or strangers, she's a very frank girl, but her manner may be a little unfriendly or caustic. Moreover, she's a very resentful person, and everyone at school knows this side of her: if someone wrongs her, it's a bit difficult that she'll let it go, and she'll do whatever it takes to get even.
Signature spell:
"Come and serve me well. Who's in control?" In a botnet, allow her to replace the main terminal, physically becoming the botmaster of the network. The larger the network, the more energy she consumes and less time she has. Since botnets are often very large, she has no more than five minutes.
Trivia:
Sinesi's name comes from the greek word ÏÏΜΔÏÎčÏ, meaning 'understanding', 'unification', 'insight'.
Her surname, Aclyda, comes from the greek word áŒÏλÏÏ achlĂœs, meaning 'obfuscate', in reference to her irascible nature.
She's a promising engineer, but she's dyscalculic. When she was younger, she wanted to surrender at the idea that she would never be a technomantic engineer, but Theia, her sister's girlfriend, pushed her to continue her studies. Now, her goal is to be the best in her field of research, so she can make her proud and repay her for all the kindness and support sheâs given.
Since she's slower than her classmates at programming, she wrote a handbook with all the problems sheâs already encountered and various precompiled programs ready for use, so she can review them and complete her tasks more quickly.
After the chaos she did during her first year and after spoken with the ARU, they're watching over her devices to monitoring her behaviour online for the time being, a security precaution. Meanwhile, also their cybercrime department put an eye on her...
She has a fondness for shooter, hack-and-slash and horror games. She often play with Idia, who always push her to try some RPGs. She really don't like them, with the exception of one, single game he maneged to make her like.
She's holding a podcast for the film research club with her club's companions. They have fun talking about B and Z movies, mostly horror, but they also promote their main work done under the guidance of Vil. It's a compromise she did with him.
When she's angry, all her magic run through her robotic butterflies and devices, causing multiple glitch and error that she must repair all the times.
To scary the Ignihyde freshmen, she's developed an hologram of a frightening demon coming from a story written by her friend Adana. They named it Larry, and now "he's infesting the second floor of Ignihyde". Idia's backing her up.
When their ex dormleader wanted her to be the new housewardern, she declined. Now, despite idia not appointed her as his vice, most of the dormitory see her like their vicehousewarden.
At first, she was sorted in Pomefiore, but choose to change dorm after the first semester.

THEME: Dragoons
Hello, so when I followed up with you, you mentioned that you wanted dragoons from Final Fantasy, rather than the historical dragoons - and Iâm glad I clarified, because I was sifting through historical games at first. From what I understand, the main points of dragoons is that they are a class who fights with a spear, with strong elements of launching themselves into the air/attacking from heights to land hits with extreme force. I also understand that they are meant to have strong relationships to dragons. So letâs see what weâve got.
Final Fantasy Legend Edition, by Mildra the Monk.
This is an intermediate-complexity tabletop roleplaying game based on the Japanese console RPG series, Final Fantasy.Whether you're a veteran or someone new to the series, these streamlined rules and various customization options will help you get started with ease.
When I went to check out this game, the Dragoon class was the first image listed on the storefront. This class comes with some classic jump abilities, and other character abilities that are all about pinning down your enemies from the air. You also have access to the appropriately-themed Dragon Arts, tying your character intimately to their historic roots. The game itself moves through what it calls a four-phase structure: Preparation, Exploration, Encounter and Downtime. Each arc is likely to follow a quest that has been given to your characters, and these four scenes give you a procedural structure that typifies many ttrpgs.
Megalos: Crystalpunk Fantasy Roleplaying, by matara.
MEGALOS is a game for telling stories about adventures in the clouds, fighting evil empires, and dueling ancient gods. The Worlds of MEGALOS are vast and old, each a cosmic emanation connected to one another by the Wellspring- the source of all aether in the cosmos. Make your own World of MEGALOS or play in one of ours, from the Oradam Rift to Pallid Telkane to Zone Gachette to The Erefane. Soar through the air in an airship, dogfight imperials, and wield aetheric magicks as a punk-rock witch.
This tabletop game is inspired by things like classic JRPGs, electronica music, and medieval alchemy. MEGALOS is the first game to use the SLIPSTREAM game engine, which uses pools of d20s as the core of its task resolution mechanic.
The martial damage class for Megalos is called the Throne, and it hast at least two subclasses that I think you could use to make a Dragoon-like character. As a base class, Thrones have access to a flight ability called Liftoff, and both Arklights and Champions use this ability to do some neat things with combat.
Arklights are warrior monks, interested in the âprotection and cultivation of âgoodââ. They have a lot of light and wings metaphors, including an ability called Falcon Dive, which allows you to dive at your opponent while in the air, with an upgrade ability to inflict piercing damage to multiple enemies. Then thereâs the Champions, fighters who are all about learning new techniques and experiencing combat as a way of life. Theyâre very brawl-friendly characters, but their abilities Aerial Charge (which launches you in the air) and Meteor Drop (which is practically a dive-bomb attack) give me pretty strong Dragoon vibes.
Lancer, by Massif Press - and the Field Guide to Suldan, by KaiTave.
Lancer is a tabletop role playing game centred on shared narratives, customizable mechs, and the pilots who crew them. Set many thousands of years from the present day, Lancer imagines a future where a survivor humanity has spread to the stars after weathering terrible ecological collapse on Earth -- the end of the Anthropocene as a consequence of unrestrained consumption and poor stewardship.
Lancer features a mix of gritty, mud-and-lasers military science fiction and mythic science fantasy. In the setting, conscript pilots mix ranks with flying aces, mercenary guns-for-hire brawl with secretive corporate agents, and relativistic paladins cross thermal lances with causality-breaking, unknowable beings.
Lancerâs big thing is the ability to make a mech that can do some really cool things, all based around combat. You build your mechs with pieces you gain access to through licenses, many of which are distributed by various companies and organization. The base game has the IPS-N Nelson Frame, which is all about close-quarters combat and high mobility, with a gigantic War Pike that can puncture armour. If you want to go full Dragoon mode though, youâll want to download the Field Guide to Suldan fan expansion, which has an additional frame option for the Nelson, giving you the power of flight - and an ability called Drive Burst, which allows you to move really fast in one direction and do a whole bunch of extra damage to anyone in your way.
If you want a game thatâs all about figuring out neat combos and making your machine really really good at specific things, you want to try Lancer.
Fabula Ultima, by Need Games.
FABULA ULTIMA is a Tabletop Roleplaying Game inspired by Japanese-style console RPGs, or JRPGs.  In Fabula Ultima, you and your friends will tell epic stories of would-be heroes and fearsome villains, set in fantasy worlds brimming with magic, wondrous locations, and uniquely bizarre monsters!
A game that is typically advertised for folks who want a Final Fantasy experience, Fabula Ultima is likely going to hit a lot of similar plot beats and game moments that feel familiar. When it comes to character creation, you are expected to put together a few different options to make someone with a lot of cool talents that you can expand on as you grow.
One of the pre-gens in Press Start, a quick-start version of the game, looks fairly Dragoon-like, with a heavy spear and a move called âSoaring Strikeâ that looks like it can send you airborne to fight flying enemies, so I think it should be fairly easy to make the kind of character youâre looking for.

A one-page RPG created for the game(s) jam. In the year 199X, technological cities grow thicker by the day, feeding off the planet's resources. Demonic fiends fill the wilds, attacking anything that moves. With a weapon by your side, you travel the world. This is your mission. This is your story.
First-Fantasy is a single page full of a lot of roll tables, both for character creation and adventure creation. This game feels like itâs relying on folks who are well acquainted with the lore and tropes of Final Fantasy, and gives you a few tools to add chance to your story. Character creation is pretty slim, but the Dragoon class does give you the basics: a spear or a sword, a Jump-charge ability, and the metal plate youâd probably expect a knight of some kind to wear.
UMBRA, by Star Bear Games.
UMBRA is a Table Top Role Playing Game in which you delve into a world of bug Knights! It features the quick and snappy combat of the LUMENÂ system.
Under and within a grand oak tree lays a sprawling metropolis known as the Cradle. Making their lives under the watchful rule of the Ashen King, are the bugs of the Cradle. Every bug has a part to play, big or small, in the kingdom. For you, oh noble Knights, your part is that of protector.
Inspired by Hollow Knight, I thought about Umbra for two reasons: one, because the titular character of the game does a lot of jumping when in combat, and two, because this game is based in LUMEN, which is all about modular combat and strategy.
You cobble together a few different things to make your character unique, including a House, a weapon, and armour called Regalia, which give you different abilities or advantages. If you want to make a Dragoon-like character, Iâd recommend making a bug from Horn House, which gives you the hard-hitting, high-damage typical of an armour-puncturing spear. Youâd then make your spear by taking a Point weapon and giving it tags like Reaching, to give yourself the ability to stab from a distance. Then for Shell regalia, you can take either Hovering Wings, which gives you the ability to fly, or Propelling Wings, which give you heightened jumps, allowing you to stay in the air for extended periods of time.
If UMBRA itself isnât the setting that you want but you like this level of customization, then I recommend checking out some other LUMEN games for different genres, but the same easy-to-learn fast-action strategy.
RottenFall Heroes, by LazerSamuraiGG
In a world forever changed by cosmic disaster, ordinary lives collided with the extraordinary. It all began with the sudden appearance of mysterious beings, turning unsuspecting humans into monstrous entities known as the ROTTEN. The trigger? A mysterious collision between an Obsidian Pyramid and the moon.
As if this upheaval wasn't enough, interdimensional beings known as VILLAINS seeped into our reality, distorting familiar landscapes into surreal nightmares.
Yet, amidst the turmoil, emerged a glimmer of hope â the Heroes. These courageous individuals joined forces, establishing schools and enterprises to combat the encroaching darkness. They ventured forth into the warped realities, confronting villains and safeguarding the innocent.
Mechanically, I cannot honestly say that RottenFall Heroes has anything that looks like a Dragoon in fighting style. However, what it does have is a class called a dragon knight, which involves a person who has a solemn pact with an ancient Dragon, who has granted them access to special powers. In Dragon Form, you are especially talented at wielding two-handed weapons, and I think you can choose a spear or lance if thatâs what you desire. You can also re-roll your attacks when fighting with your clawed hands, and youâre resistant to fire. If you want the connection to dragons more than the ability to jump really high and pile-drive someone from the sky, then you might be interested in RottenFall Heroes.

In case youâve been living under a rock, Bleem for Dreamcast allows you to play PlayStation games on your Dreamcast, but not only that. The games are enhanced with smoother graphics 640x480 (better than what the PS2 does) and hi-resolution full screen anti-aliasing (better than what the PS2 does), but with a price. There is a price, though; each Bleem for Dreamcast can only play one game that itâs designed for. There is another Bleem disc around on the net that will play many PlayStation games, complete with smoother graphics and higher resolution, but there are graphics problems with some games. But itâs a small price to pay for expanding your Dreamcastâs library of software.
I also own the original copy of the game, by the way. While I am not a big fan of the Tekken series, I have to conced that Tekken can be easily said to be one of the best games (especially, in the fighting genre) available on PlayStation. When you add up the awesome fighting engine with the number of characters and the overall graphic excellence, you get a fighting game that you shouldn't miss out on. This is one of those games that don't come around too often and will be played for countless months.

Iâve heard this is supposed to be Weavelâs gunshipâŠ

However, we also get a proper look at it in this concept art and it looks so different to me. It could just be the angle, an updated model, and the low resolution but they feel like different ships to me. The only source I can find on the first ship being Weavelâs is Wikitroid, which doesnât cite this claim.
Thereâs also another ship we see in concept art for Hunters, as part of the cancelled feature of dog fights during the game:

Given other hunters are lacking in terms of canon ship design, I want to assign it to one of them; Probably Kanden, due to the insectoid appearance. Kanden was injected with insect DNA, allowing him to turn into a Stinglarva; Similarly, we know his Volt Driver is actually a living creature! So it stands to reason Kandenâs ship would also be alive⊠So it could be this ship that might be less a mechanical approximation of insects, and more a literal, bio-engineered one to begin with!
This does make me consider the ship we see in the cutscene however; Its color seem green/yellow, and before I learned of the concept art I did toy with assigning it to Kanden. But if we have to give it to someone else, may as well change the color scheme; Now I have to consider either Trace or Noxus, because of the smooth grooves and points. Maybe Noxus, since I already have a broad HC for Traceâs gunship...
Since every bounty hunterâs ship in this series resembles its pilot for some reason, Iâm not assigning the mystery gunship to Spire because it doesnât resemble a rock. Maybe Spireâs gunship IS just a rock, a flying meteor whose thruster is a volcano at the bottom that erupts to achieve escape velocity lol.

Among the many victims of Russiaâs full-scale invasion of Ukraine are some of the most important ecosystems in Eastern Europe: Ukraineâs forests and protected areas.
The full extent of the damage, however, is unknown. Thatâs why we are launching a new tool that will help open source researchers track destruction from afar.
In September 2022, Ukrainian environmental researchers visited national parks â which are more resilient to climate change than artificial plantings and support crucial biodiversityâto assess damage to forests and wildlife. Initial findings revealed broken trees, damaged root systems due to trench digging and unexploded munitions scattered across protected lands.
âForests have suffered a lot on the frontline⊠huge areas of forests are being minedâ, Yehor Hrynyk, an environmental campaigner at the Ukrainian Nature Conservation Group, told Bellingcat. But large parts of Ukraineâs vast national parks, mountainous regions and woodlands are inaccessible for on-the-ground environmental monitoring.
Thatâs where open source techniques come in.
The OSINT Forest Area Tracker
Weâve launched the âOSINT Forest Area Trackerâ, hosted on Google Earth Engine. Our tool compares data collected by Sentinel-2, a satellite which detects changes in infrared wavelengths and can be used to study the health of forests.Â
The tool reveals the scale and intensity of anomalous changes on land. This narrows down search areas for researchers working on environmental damage in Ukraine.Â
Importantly, the map does not attribute the cause of these changes, meaning that it is crucial to find corroborating evidence from other sources before concluding that they were the result of military activity.Â
The tool uses the Normalised Burn Ratio (NBR) index to estimate burn severity.
Researchers can also use the tool to select custom date ranges for geographic locations of interest.Â
As Ukraineâs official database of protected areas includes over 7,500 sites, we chose not to study them all â among their number are botanical gardens, city parks and archaeological sites. That list also includes many areas in the far west of the country which have not seen intense conflict.Â
Therefore, we selected 16 areas which featured the highest number of detected fires over the first year of the war, based on Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) data. MODIS is a sensor which allows satellites to detect thermal anomalies, including fires in active war zones (Along with VIIRS, MODIS data can be accessed on the FIRMS system; you can read more about its use to open source researchers here). We also added Svyati Hory National Park because of its proximity to fighting. The tool includes a drop down list preset areas from across the country, including those near military activity. These preset areas are referred to by their acronyms, for example SHNP for Svyati Hory National Park. A full list of these acronyms can be found on the toolâs GitHub page. If researchers are interested in areas of the country not included in the dropdown menu, the coordinates can be entered manually.
While the new tool focuses on Ukraine by default, the methods it employs could be used to analyse areas elsewhere in the world.

Future Development
In the case of Svyati Hory, the tool identified damage to a protected area which deserved further investigation. In the case of the Kinburn Spit, it allowed us to further verify existing open source claims about an attack which had caused damage to a forest â also enriching our knowledge about the extent of the damage, which was less easily visible on real colour satellite imagery. However, both cases demonstrate the importance of corroborating the toolâs findings with other sources before drawing any conclusions about the causes of such damage. The author will continue refining and improving this tool in order to better understand the scale of damage to Ukraineâs many protected areas. Feedback or suggestions for improvements are welcomed. U.S. Air Force Upgrading Litening Targeting Pods To New Large Aperture Variant

Northrop Grumman disclosed recently that the U.S. Air Force is currently fielding the upgraded Litening Large Aperture targeting pod, which incorporates significant enhancements in electro-optical/infrared sensing and processing capabilities compared to the older variant. The news follows the recent frequent sightings of Litening pods on active-duty F-16s instead of the Sniper pod.
In fact, while the AAQ-28 Litening targeting pod was previously fielded across all units, USAFE, PACAF and ACC units replaced it with the newer Lockheed Martin AAQ-33 Sniper targeting pod, while the Litening remained in use by ANG units. Since late 2023, however, many photos surfaced online both from the Air Force and aircraft spotters showed a new return of the Litening on USAFE, PACAF and ACC F-16s.
Northrop Grumman listed in its press release the three main features of Litening Large Aperture:
Digital, high-definition daylight and infrared sensors in multiple wavelengths increase the resolution of the pod, allowing imaging from greater stand-off ranges.
LITENING LA features faster video processing, greater image stabilization, enhanced pod command and control functions, and continuous roll for uninterrupted imaging during maneuvers
Enhanced air and ground targeting modes offer greater accuracy and tracking under challenging conditions.
The Air Force first selected Litening in 1999, before selecting also the Sniper pod in 2001 and adopting both. The service now plans to integrate Litening LA throughout its existing aircraft inventory. In fact, since the new pod uses the same form factor as earlier versions and aircraft on which it has already been integrated do not require further modifications, the pods already in inventory can be upgraded to the LA configuration.

âJust as the first LITENING targeting pod transformed close air support more than 20 years ago, LAâs passive targeting capabilities have the potential to change the way pilots approach combat in high-intensity conflicts,â said James Conroy, vice president, electronic warfare and targeting, Northrop Grumman. âWe are widening the aperture on how electro-optical/infrared targeting can contribute to mission success, with a more advanced and powerful pod.â
The pod enables a wide range of missions, including precision targeting, Close Air Support, Non-Traditional Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (NTISR), Strike Coordination and Reconnaissance (SCAR), but also air-to-air identification. The pod features high-resolution, digital color video and infrared sensors, datalink capability and advanced algorithms to detect, identify and engage targets from long ranges. A more powerful mission processor accelerates imaging functions and allows for future capabilities, says Northrop Grumman, including artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Trump Blocks California E.V. Rules in Latest Move to Rein In the State. (New York Times)
Excerpt from this New York Times story:
President Trump signed joint resolutions of Congress on Thursday that block Californiaâs effort to phase out gasoline-powered vehicles, his latest attempt to reduce the power of the nationâs most populous state.
The Republican-led Congress passed the resolutions in May to reverse the Biden administrationâs approval of Californiaâs electric vehicle efforts. When signed by the president, joint resolutions revoking federal rules carry the force of law and are not subject to judicial review.
Even so, the move drew an immediate legal challenge from California, as well as an executive order from Gov. Gavin Newsom directing state officials to find another path that would move the stateâs drivers toward electric vehicles and encourage companies to make them.
Mr. Trump signed the resolutions at a time when he was battling California on several fronts, most notably in a dispute over immigration enforcement, in which the president has sent National Guard and Marine troops to Southern California in an extraordinary use of military force.
On Thursday, Mr. Trump took aim at Californiaâs longstanding authority under the federal Clean Air Act of 1970 to set pollution standards for the state that are more strict than federal limits, and at Governor Newsomâs ambition to fight climate change with an aggressive transition to electric vehicles. Repealing Californiaâs automobile policy is central to Mr. Trumpâs agenda of bolstering the production and use of fossil fuels in the United States, while eliminating policies that promote renewable energy and reduce planet-warming greenhouse gas emissions.
Mr. Trumpâs action reversed a Biden administration decision that allowed the state to require that electric vehicles make up a progressively larger share of new vehicles sold in California until 2035, when the state would ban the sale of new gasoline-powered cars entirely.
Speaking in the East Room of the White House, Mr. Trump called the California plan a âdisasterâ and said it âwould effectively abolish the internal combustion engine, which most people prefer.â
Republican lawmakers, automobile and trucking industry leaders and oil industry executives including John B. Hess, chief executive of the Hess Corporation, were in attendance. Californiaâs policy promoting electric vehicles would have been a major blow to the oil and gas industry.
Anticipating the presidentâs action, California leaders responded on Thursday with a two-part plan. Rob Bonta, the state attorney general, filed a lawsuit asking a federal judge to overturn the resolutions. And Mr. Newsom directed his administration to develop new rules that encourage the use of electric vehicles and reward car manufacturers who agree to follow Californiaâs plan to phase out gasoline-powered vehicles.
For more than 50 years, the Clean Air Act has allowed California to set pollution standards that are stricter than federal rules, as long as the state obtains waivers for them from the Environmental Protection Agency.
The resolutions Mr. Trump signed on Thursday also revoke waivers for two other California clean-air policies. One blocks California from requiring that half of all new trucks sold in the state be electric by 2035. Another stops the state from putting limits on allowable emissions of nitrogen oxide from cars and trucks. Those emissions can form smog and contribute to respiratory problems like asthma.
Chris Spear, president of the American Trucking Associations, said that ending Californiaâs electric truck policy was âcommon sense,â because the policy would have forced long-haul trucks and others to transition away from diesel power far faster than the existing infrastructure for electric vehicles could support.

RAR Musings #27: Reputation Mechanics
Starting to progressively lose my mind over dice mechanics, honestly.
Besides the fact that there is no perfect system that checks all the boxes of things I'd like a system to be able to do, spending some time to look into Forgotten Lands more than I already had has tacked the possibility of a "Roll a dice pool and count 6s" as a means to play Road and Ruin, one that's probably a lot better than the adding-based system I began with, but probably not as good as the Outcome Spectrum that I started to move to, but which handles Attribute + Proficiency + Gear activities better.
Forgotten Lands resembles the plans I have or at one point had for Road and Ruin so much for so many mechanics, that a smarter person might recommend that I simply move to play that game instead of continuing to spend almost a decade on a project that can't seem to decide exactly what it is.
I am not that smarter person.
But despite so many similarities, Forgotten Lands also has it's drawbacks. It's rulebook, for how punchy and impactful the page layout and lore fluff is, doesn't have very good chapter flow or lesson priority, and in the case of the actual rules themselves, there are several mechanics that make me frown and go "hm".
Social mechanics, for example. I was quite intrigued that Forgotten Lands would have classes such as Path of the Liar as a Peddler for a non-combatant class, but that it only goes one step further than DND, as "here are advantages you can add to your basic resolution mechanic" contested by "here are some penalties that impact your basic resolution mechanic", while having septuple the number of rules for combat options, means that it really doesn't go far enough in presenting social manipulation as a viable alternative to combat, even if the actual benefits in-game of doing so means it's strongly encouraged.
Take teamwork: having assistance from other characters grants only +1 to +3 in bonus die, with no statistic from the allies making an impact, means that there isn't any more advantage to doing a task with 50 or 100 people, and encourages small groups of adventurers, but it still makes me scowl to see that it isn't at least acknowledged, when later chapters describe making strongholds and filling it with able bodies. But even that is a sight better than the reputation system:
"If you have more Reputation than the current target, gain +1. If you have twice as much or more, gain +2 instead. Here are some examples of actions or activities that can increase your reputation. You have a higher starting reputation the older your character is."
The bit about age is cool, but like...
Is that it???
Granted, this is not a game about social engineering, it's an old-school brute-force RPG about clearing dungeons by any means necessary, and complex social mechanics isn't what it's going for.
But I was so irked by this and attempting to explain what I didn't like about it to others, that I ended up going ahead and just codifying what I wished reputation could do, as a Road and Ruin mechanic. _____________________
A good portion of this plugs into the BELIEFS system and philosophy; Reputation, and Influence as an extension, hinges heavily on exactly what the person becoming influenced actually allows themselves to be changed by it.
Reputation is only meaningful as a modifier if the person who's meant to be observing it feels that it's worth observing.
Strange women lyin' in ponds, distributing swords isn't a valid system of government, after all.
But not only is the actual attitude toward whatever heroic, barbaric, sinister, magical, or splendiferous claims to fame you feel are deserving of respect going to change from person to person, but the extent of the claim will be more believable or less depending on the claim, and that's all accounting for whether they've even heard of you at all.
For instance, simply because you were named the king's champion to fight in a tournament, doesn't mean that some distant rural farming community up in the mountains has caught wind of that. Even if someone had made it out that way, that kind of information, in a town like this, desperate for gossip and news, still may not have made the cut, may have been misremembered, or have been entirely forgotten about. Further, if your heroic deed of slaying a terrible monster in some dank cave somewhere went entirely unobserved, there's no reason why anybody would have found out about it, unless you 1) Told everyone, and 2) Had evidence to back up the claim.
If you don't have bards singing songs about you, there's every chance that nobody is going to give a fling about your wild claims of significance, same as how carrying a badge of office representational of a larger authority is going to depend on how believable that badge is (documents can be falsified), and how the target feels about that authority, by either respect or fear of consequence from disobeying that authority.
In an effort to try to summarize A) Renown, B) Separation from it's source, C) Familiarity, D) Outlook, and E) Current Mood in a sort of 'First Impressions' setter for social interactions going forward, I've set things up a bit like this:
Rolling a d20 under the character's Renown value indicates whether the target has heard of the character.
Add to the Renown value 1-10 based on your deeds having affected the target to a noticeable degree, or subtract 1-10 if the target is especially remote or removed from the center of your deeds.
The difference between the rolled result and the adjusted Renown value indicates how much the target has heard of your deeds.
An Outcome roll, determining +1, +2, +0, -1, or -2, can add even more granularity to this specific individual, as well as alter your Reputation: that is, what the character's Beliefs tell them about your deeds, and whether it flips a Positive Reputation to a Negative one, or vice versa.
A Positive Reputation means that characters feel good about your deeds and working with you, to give you what you want, and enhance efforts to Persuade. Comparatively, a Negative Reputation means that characters feel badly about your deeds, and will feel that working with you will be under duress or threat of consequence, enhancing efforts to Intimidate.
Negotiation can benefit from either positive or negative rep, by using a carrot/stick argument.
Deception, on the other hand, can attempt to enhance or minimize an existing reputation, or generate an entirely new reputation.
You can also borrow reputation, in the form of declarations or badges of office representing others of a greater authority, including using deception to fabricate such badges.
Your final reputation value acts as a gear-based modifier to social-based rolls going forward.
Having a herald or a bard can grant you a Renown bonus, as can boasting of your deeds while waving any evidence under people's noses, or intentionally letting a victim go, so that they may spread word of what transpired to them.
ALT: As an additional rule, one might order their reputational deeds in order of weakest as lowest, and most notable as highest, and everything above the value the target rolled in their "heard of you" roll is something that they've heard about. That is, someone who rolls a 1, has heard of every one of your deeds, no matter how obscure.
Put into practice, it might look something like this:
Gilderoy Goldenloins, Lord of the Golden Globes, is travelling with his party, and entered a remote mountain village. Far from the streets of the capitol, where he's been seen in parades and had his face plastered on posters on every street corner, this is far away, rendering a -6 Renown modifier on his otherwise-12 Renown. Rolling for First Impressions, the shopkeep Gilderoy has eagerly taken his place at the front of the party to negotiate prices with rolls a 3, for a "heard of you" of 3.
Gilderoy has somewhat of a gilded reputation. Savior of the people, knight of the king, and winner of the Tournament of Champions, his reputation is definitely a positive one. But, rolling for Beliefs, the shopkeep's eyes narrow.
"Weren't you that twig what swore allegiance to the king?" "Yes, that was me." "The guy what done fought as his champion in the Tournament of Fates?" "Yes, I was positively radiant, wasn't I?" "And killed the guy who placed against him in a dual of honor?"
"Well hold on," says Gilderoy, a little exasperated. "That was a whole thing, cultists had invaded the tournament, and the whole thing had been rigged so that-"
"I don't put stock in people what don't fight their own battles," the shopkeep scowls. "But I absolutely don't proffer wares with people who kill in an arena of honor. Now, get the fuck out of my store."
Rolling a Critical Failure in Reputation, Gilderoy's "heard of you" 3 is instead multiplied by x2, and flipped, for a -6. This shifts the Outcome spectrum from "success on a 7+, and an additional cost per value beneath 7" to "succeed on a 13+", back down to 10 thanks to Gilderoy's natural charisma and charm. Still, using 3d10 and discarding both the highest and lowest, Gilderoy needs to roll at least two nines for even marginal "success at a cost of 1."
Rolling a 2, 5, and 10, for a final of 5, he does not.
In fact, having 5 or more result below the target constitutes another critical failure. Gilderoy, laying on his charms to try to win over the shopkeep, instead only serves to make the situation worse. Not only are they kicked out of the store, but in the coming days, their reputation in the region will worsen, as the shopkeep complains to his neighbours in the street and pub about this rich kid silvertongued prettyboy who'll say anything to weasel out of his dishonorable actions. It'll take either establishing that the shopkeep is a grump, that nobody in the town takes seriously, to avoid this consequence, or several tasks of helping out the town to raise the locals' outlook on the party. But, given how this was merely a pit stop on the way out of the mountains, and the party wasn't intending on staying for long, chances are, this town will continue to harbor sour feelings about the party going forward.

I'm still working on the ins and outs of this, and this is the 'advanced' rules for reputation. The goal is to get all this mathy stuff sorted out at the start of/between conversations, so that in-character roleplay isn't stuttering starts and stops to figure out game mechanics and advantages, but something like this is necessary if I want a socially-driven campaign to work.
In fact, each of Road and Ruin's nine 'pillars' of play needs to have the option for basic and advanced rulesets, so that players can come to agree on which pillars they'll be using for their game and story, and which ones will be off the table. Each of these pillars needs to be established enough that someone could run a game off of even a single pillar, even if the intention is that they wind up using multiple.
