I know this is such a regurgitated take, but MCD had so much wasted potential.

The idea that one group of friends will die, meet each other in a different life time, die again, and they cycle repeats is such a beautiful trope.

I love reincarnation tropes, I think they can be beautiful and a can symbolize loyalty and closeness to one another, while also simultaneously having angst and one sided love tropes.

I believe Jess and others could have made it a beautiful piece of media, but they squandered it because of poor writing. The amount of plot holes, storylines, and characters arcs she was trying to write, that a lot of it just fell flat.

They did try fixing it with my street and whatnot, but without MCD being complete, it feels like something is lacking within the characters. The fact that MCD never finished means we didn’t get to see the full storyline and how these characters developed around each other that could have possibly shown itself into the future.

Though, tbf she also messed up the future by making them so wildly out of character. I understand you have to update their way of speaking because they are in modern times and not medieval, but some of them were completely changed.

Anyways rant over IG. I was just thinking about what MCD and future could have been if it had been properly planned and written out and actually finished. Toodles

Love that Kanan and Hera Canon fucked and had a kid and were so in love in the most healthy way, and that their love made the galaxy a better place through that love.

Hate that Anakin and Padme Canon fucked and had twins and were so obsessed with each other and had zero chemistry whatsoever it made no fucking sense that they got together and this glaring error of obsession made the galaxy a terrible place because it was so easily exploited and twisted for evil.

Another thought about "Damage" I had is that while it tries to grapple with everything Spike did by literally having him face his victims in a way, it still kind of drops the ball in the same way "Lies My Parents Told Me" did. I do think it is a little better but not great. Particularly in the last scene. Now obviously Angel and Spike are main characters, the episode ending with them isn't necessarily the problem. One part of the problem though is the framing, Spike is laid up in bed in a hospital, recovering from what the newly activated slayer did to him. He's the victim here.

Another thing is when he says he thinks "She's too far gone." Spike isn’t exactly the best to judge how far gone someone is after killing innocent people. If we're going with the "vampires are objectively evil demons separate from person they were when they had a soul" reading that BTVS used in regards to both Spike and Angel, then her situation is ostensibly similar. With all the shit she went through it could be argued that she didn't really have control of her actions the same way they did. She wasn't maliciously killing for the sake of killing; her perception of reality was genuinely skewed.

It ends with Angel saying how "We were all victims once." The comparison of them all somehow being victims in the same way is laughable. I don't remember Angel's backstory of how he was turned, but Spike definitely wanted it to happen. He asked for it, begged for it even. Comparing that to a little girl who saw/heard her entire family get brutally murdered, was then kidnapped and tortured for months on end, and implied repeated sexual assault to be a part of that torture, only then to be tossed into a psychiatric ward, being plagued by nightmares, and reliving not only her own trauma but that of countless others is ridiculous.

And lastly of course, the jacket. She strips it off him like Robin did. In having her take it, Nikki takes it back. Do they finally send it back with Andrew to give to Robin? Do they leave it in that basement, lost? Nope he gets it back. Because he is still good you see he has a soul. Therefore, why give the jacket back, it's part of his character design and it looks cool and isn't that so much more important than any compelling character stuff?

Sometimes I just think about Soi Fon. Like that shit was so insane. Easily one of The characters of all time. You’re going to give me a woman who hates the physical manifestation of her soul because it’s loud and explosive and she doesn’t think it’s “proper” that it suits her, but it’s so obvious it does because she’s angry and stubborn and loud and explosive!!! And then the fact that she never ever calls upon that physical manifestation of her soul until things are so dire it’s practically that or death? The fact that in so many ways she lets her emotions build and build and build until they quite literally explode???? And then!!! AND THEN!!!! Add in that she hates her bankai because it’s “inappropriate” for an assassin… for her role as captain of the Stealth Force… the position she inherited from Yoruichi after she abandoned Soul Society for Urahara… She despises the physical manifestation of her explosive nature, the nature she hides until she can’t, just like she shoved down her feelings for Yoruichi, the betrayal, the hurt, the love, until she quite literally couldn’t anymore and it all came back up in a BANG!!! Like god… oh my god, no one will ever do it again and kubo did not deserve such a cool fucking character in the least

What really irks me about the two* spicy scenes in OMG! Vampire this week isn't even that they're (at the very least) dubcon but that they're just so... lazy - which in turn makes the whole thing uncomfortable to watch at best.

*There was a third scene between Zen and Run that was much more palatable but it too did include a rather awkward "Did you do anything to me while I was asleep?" which makes me wonder if the writer has... certain preferences. 🥴

And it's kind of ironic that both the scene between Joe and Jackie, and the scene between Patrick and Poom have been done before AND WAY BETTER by some of the same actors (in a way):

Bonus, who plays Jackie, had several similar scenes in Gen Y 2 that were full of tension and lust DESPITE the characters arguing (to put it mildly) at the time. It was set up really well because it had none of the lukewarm "I know you like it" dialogue (with the other character visibly not liking it lmao) that ruined a much anticipated love scene between Jackie and Joe.*

*To be fair, not much happened anyway except for some vague ear biting and one very drawn out camera angle. Sugus' long hair was wasted on this and it's an outrage.

As for the scene where Patrick makes out (and possibly more) with a very asleep Poom. Funnily enough, almost exactly the same scene happens in Book 2 (or was it 3?) of Love Syndrome between Itt and Day (who Frank and Long also played) - only it's very clear that previous consent is given and that Itt (once aware) is very enthusiastic about it. So none of that weird "Did you r*pe me?" that certain flavours of old-school yaoi are so fond of in order to make it "okay" for a character to lose control and enjoy himself. 😐

And I'm not at all opposed to toxic and dark tropes (especially not in fic or novels) but at least do them well (and maybe spread them out a bit between episodes and couples 🥴).

But, uh, yeah, maybe skip this whole show if noncon isn't your thing.
