Ive been thinking a lot about this season of Orange is the New Black, which took place during Trumps first term, when he first started cracking down on immigration.

Remember how it caused an influx of children left behind, and we made them represent themselves in court? Children who were as young as 3 years old?

I have to admit some heavy ignorance...I thought this practice ended when Trump left. I thought these children who's parents got snatched away having to sit in front of a judge BY THEMSELVES was a heartless byproduct of his presidency. But I found articles of this still happening as recently as last year. Headlines still begging for something to change about this.

We're going to be seeing a lot more coverage of this, so just remember that...it happened under Biden's watch too. It was just to a lesser degree, so it wasn't on people's radar.

Ya know what one last post for AAA and I think everyone who worked on the show did an amazing job. I think the problem is just the Marvel Format and that Marvel doesn't really know how to end anything cause they want every film/show to like connect with each other which causes honestly rushed endings that feel like they created more inconsistencies than nicely tying everything in the end. Y'know, like in no way did I go into the show for any sort of ships or anything. I loved all the character interactions and I think the first half of the season was really fun and put together in an interesting story. With like well developed characters, that had flaws, motivations, buildup and again development. I think that's why the ending feels so meh in comparison. Like in no way was it the worst and I can definitely logically see how they got to it from a logic stand-point. But like there are things that just make it so short of a good ending. Like Agatha's punishment which was I believe confirmed by Jac Schaefer (don't know if I spelled names correctly or if I have the info correct so feel free to correct me if I'm just wrong) was that she couldn't stop herself from killing Alice, but then she has like insane control over it in the finale like...? Am I insane for being confused by that. Also just how her son died in his sleep is a worse truth than being accused of selling him for the book of the Damned like I'm sorry I think the latter is far worse then the former. Lilia honestly had the best ending, in terms of following her character development. And like Alice's was tragic but I loved Rio being like "but you served your purpose, you protected" and Alice not being ready but still following death to the beyond. Also I liked Billy's character, there were times where I thought they could have handled him, and just the make shift coven dynamic better but I did think he made for an interesting story telling and narrative like hook if that makes sense.

And finally for the Vidarkness fans. Um... Just WTF, we were being hyped up on a centuries spanning love story and got none of it. Like I get the poeticness and that poeticness is beautiful... but like all we got of them was calling each other their loves, a declaration of hate and never wanting to see each other again, and a literal kiss of death. Like I didn't want them to just make out, I wanted to know the story there. But it just ended with no real story just how they came to be estranged and like what happened with Nicky between the both of them (which are essentially the same exact thing). Maybe I spoiled myself with Carmilla and Wynonna Earp. instead of being into OITNB (cause I swear this show was the start of the doomed lesbians trope never seen but can only assume cause I swear ever doomed sapphic lover always recommends that show to me)

Or maybe I'm just thinking about it too hard. This is my actual last post on the show cause of the post show depression and also cause I don't know what else to say. TLDR: I have returned to Tumblr to reconnect with past and current fandoms. Looking to follow new accounts!

I used to be extremely (embarrassingly) active in fandom culture on tumblr until they banned nsfw content and it seemed like everyone left and moved to twitter. It was fun, but now obviously Im not using twitter anymore. Ive been using reddit a lot, but it doesn’t really feel the same.

I remember really liking being a part of fandoms and recently with many shows and movies out/coming out that are part of the fandoms I used to be obsessed with I feel like I should be more excited. I want to be more excited.

I think whats missing is not having a group of other people that are also fans to discuss with. Im also burned out from work, burned out from the state of the world and older than I was when I was active in this stuff. Im hoping I can get back into it and I can get reconnected.

Anyway Im gonna try to be more active on here. Of course my interests have expanded beyond Bucky and Marvel so will be sharing that as well. Idk if i have the energy or time to make this blog look different or pretty on desktop. I think I will just leave it as is for now. Weeks and weeks go by and the letters keep coming in from abby. You can't bring yourself to read them. Maybe you do hold grudges after all. When you look at the envelopes all you can think is she got to walk free and you're still stuck in this piece of shit with stale air that lingers and agony oozing from the walls. It's not fair but that's life. You wouldn't wish her to come back to the personification of hell though. You wouldn't wish prison on your worst enemy. A part of you wants to read the letters she sends though. Gross curiosity about how she's doing. They taunt you.

“y/n mails here” a guard hands you an envelope and it's another letter from abby. This time instead of shoving it in the endless pile in your cabinet you bring it to the cafeteria at dinner to ask Ellie about it. They have history too and maybe she'll give you some advice.

“If i can guess what the letter says it probably says *speaking in deep voice* hey babe miss you now lemme eat your pussy” ellie makes a v with her fingers and brings it to her mouth to make a crude gesture

“I’m fucking serious ellie. I don't know what to do. I want to know if shes ok but i also dont give a fuck.” you groan

“Well which feeling is stronger? Your love or your resentment?”

Later that night you end up reading the letter she sent. You take a deep breath to settle your nerves. Your hands are shaking as you take the letter out from the envelope.

Dear y/n,

You probably aren't opening these or if you are, i'm sure you don't really want to hear what i have to say. I doubt if th tables were turned that i would be reading this, but on the off chance that you are still reading, i want to try and explain myself which is difficult in a letter and would be so much easier face to face (even though im terrified that theyll lock me up if i step foot in there) i know that the situation in chicago seems fucked, but i promise i was protecting you.

There was a lot going on that I wasn't able to talk to you about and if I had had even a moment alone with you before the trial, I swear I would have been completely open and honest.

The last thing I want after everything we have been through is for you to feel lied to, or used in any way y/n, i promise.

You sit there with your mouth agape.She wants to meet in person? What else can she even say? The next morning you ask your counsellor to add Abby to your visitors list. You wanna hear what she has to say. But you also miss having her in the same room as you. You miss sneaking touches under the table and kisses at night. You even miss your mundane conversations. Couple days later you call Abby to arrange a Sunday for her to come up and see you. You're nervous but also excited to see her again.

That sunday you walk into the visitation room and there she is, sitting at the middle table and she catches your eye. You see a sparkle that wasn't there before and you're happy for her as much as you don't want to be. You give her a quick hug (which got you yelled at) and you sit across from her. Shes wearing that grey sweater that makes her muscles look so fucking good. It's your favorite sweater she owns.

“This is totally weird but, i'm in the wrong outfit”

“I like your sweater.” you reach out to touch her buff arms to just feel that she's real

“Its soft…like your resolve when you're offered a plea deal” you snided

“It came down at the very last minute, y/n. Abby sighed “And they promised me it would put Kubo away for good.”

“But it made me a perjurer and you a free woman.”

“I thought you were gonna tell the truth!” abby yelled

“And I thought you were gonna lie!” you yelled back

“What are we in a fucking novel or something?” Abby said this made you both chuckle.

“It's good to see your face”

You shake your head “I don't know what to say.”

“You have every right to be angry.” abby sits back in her chair and crosses her arms

“I don't know if I'm angry. I'm confused…by you.”

Abby chuckles “I'm confused by me, too. I'm pretty much the master of handling things completely wrong.”

“Well that's an understatement” you say flatly

“Im a fuck-up. And now i get to be a fuck-up in a shithole apartment in Queens. Too afraid to even open my curtains.” abby looks around the room and whispers

“I sleep with a gun.”

“You what?! Abby , what the hell? You're on probation.”

“There is a van parked outside my apartment everyday. He's trying to scare me. I wanna go out there with a baseball bat and smash the fucking windows in.” abby looks scared and defeated

“I should honestly start dealing again”

You look at her in disbelief

“Find a bigger, tougher new kingpin who can beat up my old kingpin”

“That's not funny” you say worryingly

“It's not a joke. What am I qualified to do? Huh? I have…I have no job. I'm scared shitless to leave my apartment. I got so used to sleeping with the lights on that I'm freaked out by the dark. My probation officer, Robert Hill, is a fucking joke. Bobby fucking Hill is my probation officer.” you guys both laugh

“King of the hill?”

“King of sitting on his fat fucking ass eating Little Debbies, hoping to bust me for some stupid infraction.” abby sighs and looks down at the table

“You'd think that part of his job would be to protect his probbies, you know?...Nobody gives a shit about ex-cons.” abby said defeated

“What are you gonna do?”

Abby sighs and presses her lips together “i'm skipping town”

“You can't”

“I don't have a choice. These people know where I live. That's why I wanted to see you. When I go, I can't come back. I have to disappear.”

You feel a sting hit the back of your eyes and everything sounds muffled.

“You- you can't leave me.” you say desperately

“y/n, i'm in danger i have no choice”

“But i dont have anyone left…”

We stare at each other, wishing it didn't have to be this way.

“I'm sorry y/n. I'm sorry for all of it. I know my track record id shit…but I really do love you.”

“Yeah well, I hate you.”

“No, you don't.”

You look down at the table to hide your tears ``no… no i don't.”

“Visiting hours are over!” a guard yells and when you get up to leave you look at her one last time because you might never be able to again.

For the rest of the day you worry for abby. She can't be serious right? Skipping town is not the best idea but is it the only way to keep her away from Kubo and his minions? You have an idea to keep Abby from danger but it involves calling your ex fiance who slept with your best friend. He could have slept with anyone but he chose your best friend. Asshole. But he owes you at least this favor to make up for it. You would've said you were even and let it go if he didnt sleep with your best friend.

“Hey y/n” Barry picks up the phone

“Hey are you alone right now?”

“No im with holly and you're on speaker phone” holly says hi

“Ugh great, I need a favour.”

“Depends on what it is”

“I need you to call abby's parole officer and tell him shes breaking her parole”

“Why would I do that?”

“I giving you a chance to fuck over someone you hate.”

There's silence on the other end

“Fine if you won't do it holly will you?”

“Sure whats the name of her parole officer”

“Robert Hill. He works for the DOC in Queens.”

You hang up the phone cause you really dont wanna be talking to them longer than you have to. At least the plan is in motion. It might seem a little selfish and you feel a tinge of guilt but with this plan at least you know she'll be safe. You can't let her skip town, start dealing again, or have Kubo find her. So you decide to be selfish. You wish it didn't come down to this. No one deserves to be in this cease pool, especially abby. You'll be taking this to your grave.

You're working outside today setting up for a mothers day event and the sunshine feels good on your face. The closest to freedom you have.

“Your little girlfriend is back” ellie says to me teasing

“Wha- what do you mean?”

“Yeah I saw her walking to her bunk from the intake. She looks beat up”

“I-I gotta go see her!” you start to walk away

“Inmate, get back here! You can't leave during work!” a guard yells and I slowly walk back with my hands up in surrender.

After work you go back to your bunk and see that the bed is finally occupied. Could this be Abby's stuff? That has to be a coincidence right? Many girls get processed through here everyday. What are the odds this is her stuff?

“We gotta stop meeting like this” a voice behind you says.

So I started watching the 6th season of OITNB and it does indeed look like an improvement over the mess that was season 5. Phew.

Loving the drama with the OGs having to snitch on each other so that they won't get more time.

Red forgiving Nicky for fucking her over? [cries in a corner]

Have yet to feel bad about Frieda for doing the same though, because you don't see her hurting or feeling remorse. Unlike Nicky, she barely hesitates. Checks out. She's a survivor.

I still love Maria (pretty sure it's because the actress is really good no matter how bad the script gets), but can't blame Gloria for getting revenge. Can't blame Blanca for turning on her either.

What pained me a lot was seeing Cindy implicate Taystee. We had already known that Cindy is selfish and a coward, but this season and her new flashbacks really drive that point home. A really nice touch that she was the one to hug Tasha during her breakdown in front of Piscatella (season 5 finale).

Why is Alex not questioned about the events in the pool though? Does that happen in the background?

Moreover, it's a delight to see the OGs (Flaca, Cindy, Lorna, Daya etc.) interacting now that their cliques are not a thing anymore.

Moving on.

A thing that feels forced to me: Red losing all sense of control when she sees Frieda and thus missing the opportunity to meet her grandchildren for the first time. Like, come on. That only happens to trigger the "SHU is cruel and gives you dementia" ending, because it makes no fucking sense.

Red's s6 characterization is so inconsistent with her s1-s4 counterpart's, who played the long game and did not make such impulsive/hasty decisions.

Not counting s5 Red, because almost every character (except for Tasha, Gloria, Soso and Sophia) was an exaggerated caricature of themselves during season 5.

Another lady whose characterization is off? Lorna's, who thinks that joining a gang is good for her baby. Antidepressants (paroxetine) do have side effects, but do not give you a personality transplant.

"Don't look at me. I'm crazy, but not Florida crazy." Oh, baby.

That's the only reason they kept her there in season 6, because she adds literally nothing to the story.

Now, as for the new characters,

Love the guard who used to be Tasha's friend and Lorna's bunkmate. Hope they both get their own background episodes, because they're the most interesting ones.

Most of the other guards seem pretty bland in comparison--cheap repetitions of previous COs, e.g., Hellman is Humps no. 2.

A good thing that Artesian is back though. She's no Fisher or Wanda, but compared to the rest of the COs... Can't wait to see her PTSD episode.

Why is the show trying to make Dixon, the guard who compared Poussey's murder to breaking a chair and murdered several people and also a girl after he had sex with her because her loved ones "would kill her anyway," goofy and lovable all of a sudden? Isn't the woobification of Tiffany's rapist enough?

I like the "crazy baby killer" (Piper's bunkmate) and want to know what turned her into Medea.

All the new inmate villains (Carol, Barb, Badison & Annalisa) are so cartoonish and over the top. Waiting to see if they'll get any depth, but I'm sensing that the baddies on this show peaked at Vee. Even Piscatella seems more nuanced in comparison.

I'm struggling to see what people saw in Carol... that she's pretty? The older actress is ok, but the younger one's acting is, um, how to put this delicately? Not ideal.

Badison has some funny lines, but she's more of a tryhard high school bully than a compelling antagonist. Waiting to see if that's intentional or not.

Annalisa is so annoying and unnecessary. Could definitely do without her. Glad to know that Lorna attacks her before being moved to Florida honestly.

"Daddy" is so physically unimposing that I find it hard to buy he* is the protector of the block. Androgyny on its own isn't enough. Waiting to see if he'll get some development, because for the time being, it looks like he's Stella no. 2: there to look hot despite the subpar acting and personality of a spoon. But I suppose he's there to trigger Daya's kingpin arc and drug addiction. My point? Missing Boo hours.

*Not sure what pronouns I should use (Annalisa says "he"), because it's not clear to me whether "Daddy" is a trans guy, nonbinary or a cis masc lesbian.

Moving on again.

I found the opening with Suzanne's hallucinations charming yet a bit out of place.

The thing is, S1-S3 were more of a comedy than a drama. S4 was the turning point and the show became more of a drama than a comedy.

Season 5 should have committed to drama, but unfortunately tried to balance the two and stumbled.

Season 6 is another attempt at balancing the two.

Nicky remains funny, but the lines lack the spark and wit of her pre-s5 ones. Maybe that can be explained due to the "We're all in Max now" development, maybe it's due to the new writers interpreting her differently.

Something is missing there for sure and is definitely not the "I'm a player, but suddenly stopped chasing women" bit.

Piper keeps asking for Alex ("a broken record" like Daya says) and then spends her time joking about their wedding. What else is new with these two?

What else indeed. Hm.

Where the hell is Sophia? I know she gets out in the finale, but in the meantime, where is she? We barely saw her in season 5 after 2 interactions with Gloria.

Oh, last but not least, missing Soso and Chang hours.

Not missing Leanne and Angie at all hours. Too bad that they replaced them with equally irritating characters.

my #1 tv show recommendation is to watch the challenge. i literally never cared about competition reality shows besides antm and now i am Obsessed because the challenge is perhaps the greatest show of our generation. i beg of you to watch this compilation video it captures the overall spirit of the show So well and it's also hilarious.

ok now other shows ❤️ i'm not gonna mention shows like succession that are super big on tumblr or well-known prestige television like breaking bad or the sopranos because i'm sure you've already seen plenty of people recommending those yknow? so yeah.

cowboy bebop (anime). the live action does not exist to me. anyway. cowboy bebop is sci-fi. it's western. it's jazz. it's comedy. it's tragedy. it's about love and identity and bounty hunting and a little corgi. there's a reason why it's often called one of the greatest anime of all time. this kinda violates my no reccing super popular shows rule but i think people who don't watch much anime may not be familiar with cowboy bebop so i figured i have a duty to the people.

the get down. i wholeheartedly believe that the get down is the greatest thing netflix has ever produced and it's a goddamn tragedy that it was canceled, but what does exist is just. incredible. it's about the rise of rap and hip-hop, the death of disco, and struggling to figure out identity and the meaning of success in the bronx in the 1970s. created & produced by baz lurhmann, the show incorporates archival footage of new york and real people with fictional narratives in a truly masterful way. it's absolutely gorgeous. the music is fucking fantastic. it's So worth watching and i wish that it had gotten the same hype as other netflix shows like st, oitnb, etc.

speaking of netflix. american vandal. if the get down is the best thing netflix has ever produced, american vandal is a very close second, and i could honestly be persuaded to swap their places, but ANYWAY. it's a mockumentary wherein a kid named peter and his best friend sam attempt to solve the mystery of who spray-painted twenty-seven dicks on twenty-seven cars in the staff parking lot at their high school. it's one of the funniest shows i've ever seen, and also the only show i've ever found to be accurate to the contemporary teenage experience. it's also like... insanely accurate as a parody and critique of real true crime documentaries. also if you're following me you're probably an st fan, and eduardo franco (argyle!!) is in american vandal as well, if that motivates you any more.

xena: warrior princess. it's the best show of all time and also the worst show of all time. everything that people say about shows like supernatural and glee and riverdale? xena did that shit back in the 90s, they did it better, and they did it with lesbians. they did it with swords. they did it with aphrodite. they did it with leather and whips and clones and reincarnation and true love's kiss. please watch xena.

community. if you haven't watched community idk what you're doing with your life to be quite honest. just watch it already.

GLOW. attention all tumblrinas who like messy complicated stupid mean scheming sexy women. you will fucking love glow. sorry i'm recommending so many netflix shows but i can't Not mention glow on here it would be a betrayal of my lesbianism. it is about sexy women wrestling. it's got blood. it's got tits. it's got storytelling. it's got 80s music. it's got fucking your best friend's husband as a means of feeling closer to her. yellowjackets fans i'm looking at you. watch glow.

ghosts (bbc). not cbs. dear god not cbs. bbc. but yeah ghosts is a sitcom about a young couple who suddenly inherit an old home (manor? thing? man i don't fuckin know english aristocracy stuff) full of ghosts. it's a fun, simple premise, and some parts of the show can be corny, but the actors sell it so well that it's just a pleasure to watch. if you're into sitcoms, i think it's worth giving ghosts a shot!

AN OVERWHELMING SENSE OF GUILT hit Nyomi as she walked up to the parked white minivan, suddenly regretting all her choices up to this moment. She assumed that was what the CO's of this place wanted to happen - the higher ups designing the place to have that effect. However, she just couldn't push the feeling down.

Once the doors of the van were opened, she quickly took her seat next to a woman who sat... Bored? Nyomi hoped she wouldn't be sat here long enough to get bored like her, silently sending God a prayer in her head. She hadn't even realised she was staring at the poor woman until she turned her head, sending Nyomi a harsh glare, causing her to look away and hug her bag close to her chest.

Nobody in the van spoke, the woman in the front focused on her magazine with her sunglasses sitting comfortably on her face - she looked to be ready for a wait, which didn't send Nyomi much reassurance.

However, another woman soon joined them - a black hair poised woman, who seemed much too full of class to be joining them. The older woman took a seat beside Nyomi, sitting comfortably before beginning to talk.

"My jacket is itchy," she said, pulling at her jacket, causing her bags to hit against Nyomi as she did - evoking a reaction from the girl beside her.

"Yo stop that, you're hitting us." The girl to Nyomi's left quipped, kissing her teeth before looking straight forward again, shaking her head.

"And this will be where you'll be staying," Morello said, showing me inside this cube-like cell, three bunkbeds sitting against the wall, three elderly ladies currently sitting on their bunks, "bunk give is yours," she said, pointing at it before walking off.

"Don't take it personally," one of the older ladies stood, taking my bag and placing it on the bottom bunk, "the races stay separate here - like the old days, only less 'hatecrimey'. She won't help you like she did the other girls."

Nyomi smiled kindly at the woman, thankful for her advice that she assumed would already help her, "Thank you," she replied, nodding her head, "I'm Anderson."

"Of course sweetheart," the woman replied, holding out her hand, "I'm Irma, them two ladies are Taslitz and Jimmy."

I nodded, "Nice to meet you all," I said, shaking Irma's hand.

Irma then sat down, causing Nyomi to go to do the same before an alarm went off, causing the three to stand up by their bunks, which Nyomi followed and did the same.

"It's count," Taslitz said simply, seeing the confusion on Nyomi's face, "don't sit down until we do."

A few seconds later, a guard came in, clicking his counter four times before leaving and going to the next room. Following him were two other guards, who both did the same.

After count was dinner, so Nyomi followed them to the lunch hall and watched them make their way to a long line, hesitantly following them and finding herself a few people behind. Looking around the hall, the girl quickly noticed how decided the room way, cliques forming at tables, the only dividing factor being race - Irma was right.

Receiving her tray from the hispanic ladies serving dinner, Nyomi was quick to smile at the woman serving, offering a thank you befote going to find a place to sit. Not wanting to assume she was welcome to any of the cliques, she found a seat at an empty table at the back corner of the room.

Beginning to eat silently, a woman set infront of Nyomi, causing the girl to take ahold of her tray, expecting the woman to tell her to move. However, she didn't, instead she placed a toothbrush, bar of soap and toilet paper infront of Nyomi.

"Taystee sent me," the woman spoke, looking the girl up and down, "now you have to follow me."

The phrase 'the races stay separate here' from earlier repeating itself in her head - Nyomi didn't want to be on bad terms with the only people she had here.

Once they reached the table, Nyomi stopped, unsure where to sit so stood at the head.

I'm sorry.. why is the Muslim character on oitnb trying to convince her husband to get a second wife!!!!!?? Because I've never ever in my 24 years of living, have i ever heard of a woman trying to convince her husband to get a SECOND WIFE!!!! The show writing that, just makes me believe that not a single Muslim or at least a person who lived in a Muslim country is on the writers team! These people are just making shit up!!!

Now, I'm not exactly an expert on this matter but just by the virtue of living in a Muslim society and being a Muslim for the majority of my life, i can tell you that a woman trying to convince her husband to get a second wife, because they both work and need help around the house, is pretty much a non existing concept! I'm 99.99% sure that no woman is gonna suggest that and no woman is gonna be someone's second wife and live in the same space as his first!

The men who have multiple wives are the men who are rich enough to afford a multi-story house, where every wife gets her own space, they're not sharing the same space and they're sure as hell not doing eachothers laundry!!

The only time, some women will push for their husbands to get second wives is when they can't get pregnant and the husband wants children. That's literally it.

I'm just so bothered with this revelation about this character, because it feels like a bunch of writers who barely did any research, making shit up and maybe even trying to put a progressive spin on polygyny in Islam by making the wife push for it.. i was so fucking pissed off watching it!! And the way they made her be like "just think about it, we work, we're tired, the house is a mess, we need help, we can't enjoy eachothers company"... like bitch!!! That's how you convince your husband to get a maid, not goddamn second wife!! For fuck sakes!

Now for my feelings about polygyny in Islam, i hate it, Muslims (even me until a couple of years ago) will give you the same, 4-5 reasons (that was drilled into us in Islamic education class) on why it's actually a really good thing!... for example, men die in war and that leaves more women than men alive, so what are those poor women supposed to do, they need men... Or some women can't get pregnant so instead of leaving his wife, a good man will marry another... Or some women are widowed or divorced and have children, so of course a very good Muslim man will have to marry them and shelt them..... it all boils down to "Muslim men are good and polygyny exists to help women"..

I fucking hate this religion! If islam really cared about women, it would've advocated for women to work and have finances to support themselves, it would've gave women equal inheritance to men, it wouldn't be consistently yapping about how men should shelter women and how women need men to support them..

Also isn't polygyny illegal in America? So that other lady is just his live-in girlfriend, not wife!

Just thought of a conversation I had with a cousin ages ago. Warning for lesbophobia/biphobia/queerphobia, you know.

My cousin told me she loves OITNB, and I said I didn't really enjoy it that much. She went "Oh, because of the lesbians?"

So, I'm a little (ha!) behind in my season 7 rewatch of OITNB, but I'm up to 7x06 and I just finished watching the scene above---new parolee Piper's first visitation after her bloob-fueled slipup (which nearly lands her back in prison with Alex). She misses Alex, she's frustrated by the restrictions on her personal freedom, so she's acting out...in a very unwise and dangerous way. Alex is, understandably, concerned but (as usual) tries to cheer Piper up with her trademark sardonic humour --"I guess we're two fucked-up peas in a pod"-- to which Piper responds "I wanna be in your pod." Alex's wistful response: "Me too...(sighs)...Too bad we're not even in the same garden." The (crappy-looking) gif (I created) above starts with Piper's frown after Alex's line....and then we have Alex's non-verbal response. I've been singing the praises of Laura Prepon's non-verbal acting on this show for years on my tumblr. It's a small moment, but it speaks volumes. After the "garden" line, Alex looks down at something out of the frame, moves her left hand (to press her hand against the glass where Piper's hand is, I strongly suspect)... and then locks eyes with Piper (with *that* look) for...well, seemingly, forever. She doesn't have to say a word because everything she feels about Piper is in that look---all the love and adoration and hope and longing. I could go on and on, but you know what I mean if you've ever watched the series. I will never get over how Alex looks at Piper. Never.

hi zal! this is gonna be really long so i apologize in advance! before i get to the subject i just wanna say that ive been putting off this ask for a while now because its about oitnb and that show left a really bad taste in my mouth with the way it handled certain topics and i know you feel the same way. pousseys death was especially upsetting for me. with that being said, poussoso is my favorite ship of all time. at the beginning of the show i wanted to see poussey with taystee and i was kinda upset when it didnt work out (i know you felt the same way) and i was so not expecting to ship poussey with someone else (especially not with brook who was super annoying in the beginning) but their build up was done SO WELL that i started rooting for them way before they even became a thing. i remember watching s3 and feeling their loneliness on a personal level. i could actually really relate to poussey because im a lesbian who lives in a very homophobic area and i struggle with an alcohol addiction, so her arc really hit me. pouesey had so much love to give but didnt have anyone she could give it to meanwhile brook was completely isolated because of the bullying she received and it just made so much sense for them to get together. basically i started rooting for them when brook talked about what norma meant to her and poussey understood her 100%. i just really really enjoyed the wholesome energy they shared in that scene. what i also loved about that scene is how poussey reacted to the hostility brook received from one of the inmates and they just kept adding little details like poussey sticking up for brook and distancing herself from normas group because of the way they were treating her. so when poussey ended up saving brook i was already a bit overwhelmed with how invested i was. and then... the lake scene happened. and i was like... im going down with this ship. they officially became my otp after the lake scene. because after all the loneliness and desperation they experienced in s3 they finally found some peace together. and more importantly they found hope. they kinda remind me of stelena in that way. "you should love the person that makes you glad youre alive" i feel like that describes poussoso to a T. and i think its so poetic that during their first real interaction brook explains her depression by comparing it to putting on a heavy armor everyday and the exhaustion from that and then we see her happily floating in the water while holding pousseys hand and they both look so carefree. and then they actually start dating in s4 and they had so much chemistry and i didnt know what to do with myself. granted they didnt have that many scenes together but it still bothers me how underrated they are because their build up was so beautiful, they had natural chemistry and poussey is portrayed by a real lesbian so theyre wonderful wlw representation. i know you like poussoso too so my question is if you consider them an otp of yours and which scene turned you into a shipper. also what did you like the most about them and why do you think theyre so underrated? again sorry, i know its a lot but i know only one other person who ships them so im really desperate to talk about them 🤣 love your blog sm 🥰

OK. So. The thing about Poussey and Brooke is that when I did watch them as a couple, I thought they were very sweet, they did have this nice, natural chemistry like you mentioned, they did have this sense of peace and being carefree with each other, like you mentioned,

so I liked them in that respect, I liked them for their chemistry because it was a really, really nice, light, gentle chemistry,

but I don't consider them an OTP because I also had a lot of narrative issues with them. The entire time I kept asking myself, what about Poussey? I know they made it seem like she wasn't getting the short end of the stick in that relationship but they didn't give me any reasons to believe that she wasn't.

One of the issues I had with OITNB was how the Black characters in particular were the characters who took in other characters (a lot of whom were racist) who had no one else or who were kicked out by their own groups, the characters who had to educate others and that's how I felt about Brooke and Poussey. She definitely goes through a character arc and becomes a better person through her relationship to Poussey and for you it's a relationship of understanding and growth, which I get for all the reasons you listed, but for me, because Brooke, from what I can recall, didn't add any dimensions to Poussey's character, it just makes for yet another Black female character being instrumental in another character's development and getting nothing in return.

It just was not enough for me that Poussey could understand Brooke, that Poussey could relate to Brooke, that Poussey forgave Brooke (for her racist stereotyping), that Poussey told Brooke she didn't have to worry about not reciprocating the type of physical intimacy that she gives, just like how it's not enough for me that Bonnie tells Caroline I want to be at your wedding because your happiness is my happiness, I just wasn't cool with how much Poussey gave so I liked them and found them sweet but I didn't "ship it" if that makes sense.

In terms of them being underrated, I think some people feel the way I do and I think there was a Brooke doesn't deserve Poussey sentiment and Poussey was just desperate for any kind of non-platonic affection and forgave Brooke when she shouldn't have, and I also think that a lot of the time, despite the constant complaining about it, a lot of viewers are more attracted to the torrid relationships.

1. Zuko and Katara (ATLA)

Well, this one is kinda complicated I guess lol. I obviously wish they were canon but at the same time I do kind of think it's a good thing they aren't? As much as I love ATLA I think it sucked at handling romance (with the exception of Sukka) so the writers may have very well handled Zutara badly if it had been canon. Plus the ship not being canon is at least partially why it has the amazing fanworks that it does. Still in my eyes they are the greatest ship that never was!

2. Buffy & Faith (BTVS)

The enemies to lovers are that should have happened.

3. Damon & Bonnie (TVD)

This is another case of 'the writers probably would have fucked it up if it was canon' scenario but idc the reaction from the DE fan base alone with have been worth it lmao. And Bonnie deserved to have a romance with a character she had chemistry with and wasn't irrelevant.

4. Grace & Frankie (G&F)

This is one that actually kind of frustrates me because it so clearly SHOULD be canon. The subtext is all there. But the writers are probably cowards and think that one gay couple on the show is enough.

1. Eleanor Guthrie (Black Sails)

Honestly while Black Sails is overall a pretty solid show, I don't think I'll ever be able to do a full rewatch again and one of the reasons is because the treatment of Eleanor makes me too angry lmao. Paired off with two awful men and then made pregnant just so her death would be more 'painful' for her awful husband. Eleanor deserved better and fuck the Black Sails fandom for always justifying her treatment in the final season.

2. Tara Knowles (Sons of Anarchy)

God another one that makes me see red when I think about it. She was killed for Jax's man pain even though he treated her like shit for 95% of their onscreen relationship. They had her killed in such a needlessly brutal way. They had Gemma be the one to kill her (who used to be my second favorite character on the show) and ruined the great a nd complex Tara/Gemma dynamic they had going in the first four seasons. Basically this death destroyed multiple things for me.

Also Jax's overall character arc would have been 100% more powerful if Tara had lived. Just imagine him finding a way to help Tara be able to take the kids and run. But he doesn't follow them because he realizes he's become too much of a monster and wants them to be safe. Like, that actually would have made me feel something for him.

3. Poussey Washington (OITNB)

The show was going downhill before it happened but her death was the final nail in the coffin for me. I could never enjoy it the same way again. They killed her when she was finally finding happiness again :(

Also, while I don't want to speak too much on the message they were trying to send with her death since I am white, I was pretty uncomfortable that they spent so much time on trying to make everyone feel sorry for the guard that killed her in the season afterwards.

4. Finnick Odair (The Hunger Games)

Suzanne Collins killed him off because she knew he was a fan favorite and wanted to make Mockingjay as depressing as possible. So needless. And another character that died right as he was finding some happiness :(

5. Tara Maclay (BTVS)

One of the older victims of the bury your gays trope. A sweetheart who deserved better :( While my feelings about Tillow are complicated after the shit Willow pulled in S6, I still kind of think they should have been endgame you know?

While I may not have changed the fact that Padme died in Star Wars (just because her death is kind of narratively important) I would change the way she died. I follow the theory that Palpatine killed her via the force by draining her life source to revive Anakin as Darth Vader, but that's not technically canon.
