Bruh even when I search x reader fluff 80% of it is smut anyway. It’s not that I don’t read smut but it’s annoying when I’m in the mood for soft fluffy content and I have to sit there and scroll thru porn most of the time. No one is claiming to be holier than thou, it is merely an annoyance when we use the right tags but creators tag fluff even when it’s purely porn w no plot. So calm down, it’s not that deep
I genuinely was just ranting and didn’t expect that post to break confinement in any way, but while I’m here, I’ll bite!
on one hand, I don’t know how to explain to you that the webbed site will not always show you only exactly what you want to see. literally no search engine or site online does that. like i said in the original post, the search results are a conglomeration of what everyone is interested in—if it’s 80% smut, that’s because smut is doing well and people want to read it. maybe not you, but the collective at large. you can blacklist smut in your settings! and if you block a lot of the blogs that only churn out smut, you may find the tag clears up for you considerably. I do this for a lot of hurt/no comfort I don’t want to see, it does work. but your best shot for a truly curated experience is going to be on ao3, not here on the hellsite.
however, I do agree that there has been a HUGE degradation of tumblr tag etiquette over the past few years. people used to get pissed if you cross posted your fic in the wrong tags, and now it’s a free for all. as an example, jjk x reader fics in the honkai star rail x reader tags when none of those characters are even referenced in the post at all—not even in a “i wrote a short blurb and am now saying it’s 20 possible characters from 7 fandoms” way, which is like the easiest, low effort writing ever. people are using every single trope tag instead of just the ones in their fic. platonic fics are being tagged with “x reader” when the “platonic!reader” tag should be used. that sort of thing. the searches are only as accurate as we all are about tagging and a lot of people are just not giving a single fuck about it nowadays. so on that level, anon, right there with you.
