im so conflicted about the watcher tv streamer thing that's going on.
like on one hand, i dont want them to fail this thing, i love them.
but on the other, i cant pay for it. i don't even pay for any other subscription to anything. literally. no netflix, no whatever. i cant afford to.
they make so many shows and i watch like 3 of them. for the money and for how much of them i actually watch, it aint worth it for me. I'm tryna save as much money as possible, here
i really want them to succeed cause they're so passionate about what they do and them and their team work so hard for it. they deserve the rewards that come of this.
but i cant afford to do it myself. and it makes me a little sad, yknow.
i want to support them in this way but i cant.
i wish them the very best of luck, in whatever they do.
:)

Not people making a whole hashtag(#sick of the smut) against smut on social media and a publisher jumping in on it:
Tumblr media
More of people talking about the hashtag:
Video 1
Video 2
And on the smut in YA discourse that’s been talked about along with this hashtag, I’m a fresh 20 years old(birthday was last month) meaning I’ve been(and still am) reading YA for a good portion of my life. Yes, I know YA is for 12-18 year olds. But, 12-18 is a large developmental gap within itself. This shouldn’t really need to be said, but not every book in the YA genre is going to be able to cater to the age range that’s included in the range for reading YA. The singular or few smut chapters in YA that’s everyone’s having discourse about isn’t for 12-14 year old YA readers, no debate about that.
The singular or few smut chapters are for the 16-18 year old readers, because that’s what lines up with the developmental experiences of someone within that age range. Especially the 17-18 year old readers considering they’re either in college or about to be going to college. Sex and dating normally starts to be more relevant or interconnected topics or things people are going through at that point in life. This shouldn’t need to be said(again) but 16-18 year olds(speaking as a former 16-18 year old) aren’t going to really relate to the level of romance that would be appropriate for a 12-14 year old. They’re on different ends of the puberty spectrum and in different environments(mainly 17-18 year olds).

My love language is making things for my friends whether that be cooking or quilt blankets.
I don't care about the money because I don't make these to sell em.
But I did the math
And holy shit artists don't sell their works for enough.
Just fully goes to show that any quilt blanket you can buy for 60€ (or whatever equivalent in your currency) is made either only machines or most likely slave labour.
The blanket, factoring in material×3 + decent hourly wage, would be around 1475€ (rounded up to 75 from 74.something)
Y'all, pay yourself better.

TImes are hard. But I feel like it's worth looking at this one again.
In the future, children will think our ways are strange. "Why do old people always grow so much milkweed in their gardens?" they'll say. "Why do old people always write down when the first bees and butterflies show up? Why do old people hate lawn grass so much? Why do old people like to sit outside and watch bees?"
We will try to explain to them that when we were young, most people's yards were almost entirely short grass with barely any flowers at all, and it was so commonplace to spray poisons to kill insects and weeds that it was feared monarch butterflies and American bumblebees would soon go extinct. We will show them pictures of sidewalks, shops, and houses surrounded by empty grass without any flowers or vegetables and they will stare at them like we stared at pictures of grimy children working in coal mines

it's extremely critical that you see the photo of the perp walk for luigi mangione as being propaganda. i've seen so many people wave it off and instead fawn over his looks. and trust me, i know it ended up being kind of pathetic and weird - but please don't brush it off as a "modelling opportunity" for him. it's a fucking terrifying message the police are sending.
i want to make a few comparisons here, in case you're not from the US or familiar with why the perp walk thing is something to pay attention to. just to set the groundwork for why this is a purposeful, unusual, and cruel act by the nyc police - for why this is not a common occurrence and for why that matters.
the prosecution alleges the show of force is due to the charge of "terrorism." for comparison, in june 2015, tsarnaev was found guilty for the boston marathon bombing, which killed 3 people and injured hundreds. his actions are considered to be an act of domestic terrorism. i have spent the last hour looking through google for pictures of similar to mangione's perp walk - and so far, i have found zero. i also just do not personally remember a moment like that, despite living in boston at the time.
they allege that luigi is a stone-cold killer who carried out a longterm plan, making him particularly dangerous. again for comparison: in nyc, recently cory martin was found guilty of the killing of brandy odom. the murder was planned and premeditated to steal insurance money. and yet no staged perp walk. why didn't her life matter enough for a "show of force"?
but mangione gets paraded by a veritable army of police officers as if he is a rabid animal. for a single citizen who allegedly killed one other single citizen, the "largest perp walk ever" occurs.
so what is the "strong message" that the mayor and the police were trying to send here? the mayor speaks as if mangione is already convicted of terrorism. there is a very thin number of people who feel threatened by the CEO's death. none of us felt like mangione needs to be under massive armed guard.
the message is that you shouldn't resist. they are trying to "make an example" of him - that if you behave badly and kill a single rich person, you'll be treated as if you killed hundreds of people. you will be treated worse than a man who was found guilty of terrorism. you will be considered guilty without trial. the message is that the rich are a protected class, and you cannot touch them without massive punishment. they are trying to prevent a revolution by showing dominance and force against you.
the message is that the police are a puppet of the wealthy and that the law is not equally applied across class disparity. it is "some are more equal than others." it is "one life is more precious than another."
the show of force wasn't for luigi. it was for us. it was a warning. they are trying to remind us who is really in control.
