As a certified horror movie hater, I really hope the sunrise on the reaping film reads just a little like a horror movie.

COWBOY LIKE ME: PROLOGUE
Tumblr media
pairing: Jack Abbot x rescuer!reader
summary: After an unexpected storm hits Pittsburgh, the entire city stops. Floodings and destruction everywhere. Jack ends up trapped for two days at PTMC. When he's finally allowed to be outside, he ends up at the frontlines of the disaster, back to his MASH unit days. Abbot works right next to the rescuers, helping them stabilize patients before they reach the hospital. He meets an interesting person amongst the rescuers, and the magnetic pull is too hard to ignore. Will he give in?
OR
Where Jack Abbot meets an eccentric doctor in the middle of a catastrophe, and finds light in one of the darkest places imaginable.
genre: romance, slowburn (on paper, speedrun irl), hurt/comfort, breakup, happy ending (?), sprinkled comedy, idk what else, highly medically inaccurate, heavy dialogue for the first chapters.
wc: 2.3K
warnings: age gap, (reader is in her late 20's, jack late 40's) major natural disaster, medical trauma, PTSD, mentions of war and violent situations, graphic depiction of injuries, mentions of COVID and death. Will edit as I write more.
a/n: hiii!! this is the prologue of my story, it's mostly a set up of characters and storyline, I hope you enjoy it! I'll be posting chapter one in the next few days hehe
you can find the masterlist HERE!

"How are we doing?"
Gloria asked as she walked into the never welcoming Emergency Room. Robby stood in the middle of the nurse station, his eyes glued to the board as his mind raced to gather his thoughts and course of action.
He barely registered Gloria’s voice until she stood next to him. He was sure she’d asked something more; her piercing gaze made it obvious. She blinked repeatedly, a silent question, and only then did he snap out of his world and sigh, as if he could handle her right now. As if he could handle anything else right now.
"So far, so good, but we have a lot of people coming in just seeking shelter. Power is out almost everywhere in Pittsburgh, and according to Abbot, there are already entire neighborhoods that got wiped off the map."
Gloria didn't respond; the only answer between them was lightning and thunder outside the ED. The rain was heavy and unrelenting, but the real problem was the number of traumas they weren’t getting; just a few, something they could handle in a couple of hours.
That meant people couldn't reach them, and God knows how many would come once the rain stopped.
It also meant that his adrenaline junkies; or as others called them, students, were fidgety, which was never good.
Shit, it even made him fidgety. He didn’t know that looking at all of those empty rooms would make him feel like that.
"Yeah, I heard it's bad. I'm trying to get you as many supplies and food as soon as possible, but all roads are blocked. How's everyone?"
He stopped blinking.
"Skittish, suicidal, damn; I'm sure they're about to jump out of the building at any moment. I would too."
She stayed quiet once again.
"Yeah, I can't reach my family either."
Robby finally looked away from the board, he sighed once more. Gloria didn’t seem to move, she was oddly calm for a situation like that. It wasn’t foreign to her, in all their years working together, she never flinched. Not even at the peak of the COVID crisis, even then, she was counting patient satisfaction scores.
“I’m sorry. I’ll ask Kiara if she can reach them.”
“Thanks. I’ll be in my office if you need something. I heard it’s all hands on deck.”
Just like that, she left before anyone could ask her anything.
Abbot joined the conversation just as Gloria left. He looked a little bit tired, but he was as sharp as ever. On the other side, Robby felt like something horrible was about to happen and he didn't have any form to stop it. Abbot was the complete opposite, a good man in the storm, —no pun intended—, the clear and calm mind in the middle of chaos. Robby would lie if he said he wasn't a little jealous of him sometimes.
Jack didn't ask about Gloria, despite his shameless eavesdropping from behind. Instead, he looked at the board along with Robby. It wasn’t time to activate full emergency protocols, but he knew it was close. Still, that wasn't the intention of his impromptu visit to the nurse station.
"Did you hear? They declared state of emergency, and they're getting rescue teams down here to help us."
It had been a bad couple of days. The rain came out of nowhere, and it only got worse, slow, relentless, and destructive. Before anyone realized, people couldn't leave their houses and some of them were already compromised by the heavy rain. It was still somewhat salvageable but less than 12 hours ago it got worse, with high speed winds that threatened to make everything worse, the city was on pause. Still in the middle of chaos.
Worse part? Immediate response was already at max capacity, and they had barely touched the surface of the catastrophe.
"Well, I now thank my old concrete apartment complex, at least I know it won't fall apart."
Jack scoffed, his hands going to his face in early defeat. If it weren't for the hospital being in a relatively safe zone, and their emergency protocols in place, he was sure they would be underwater too. But at the moment, it felt like they floating on a bubble under the ocean.
And it could burst at any second.
"Is it true?"
Princess walked towards the two men, her phone in hand, showing them a video. Robby had to put on his glasses to see, but even then, they still weren't sure what they were looking at.
"They say a rescue team from Mexico is coming due to the disaster."
Princess flipped the phone slightly towards her to speed up the video, where now a dozen people with orange jumpsuits could be seen getting ready to board a plane.
Abbot was immediately interested. He’d heard about those rescue groups and knew a bit about them, was never able to see their work up close to thank them for their labor. The wicked part inside of his brain sparked at the idea of seeing that in action.
"They're called topos." Princess’s Filipino accent slipped on the last word.
“Topo? As in mole? Like the animal? That’s Tagalog.”
“And Spanish.”
Perlah joined the conversation and pulled out her own phone to show them more pictures of the team. She knew a little about them too, but it was also mostly a mystery to her.
"Oh, yeah, I know them. They're like rescue nomads.” Abbot said, finding a granola bar in his pocket and opening it as he spoke. Robby took a piece without asking. Princess and Perlah followed suit, which forced him to find another one for himself.
“What does rescue nomad even mean?” McKay asked, sneaking next to Abbot.
Robby bit the inside of his mouth and took a look at the oddly clean board. No one wanted to say anything, they feared the minute they would mention it, patients would fall from the sky into their ED. Something about everyone gathering there started to bother him. Those were the moments when he needed Shen to crack a joke and hope for the best, maybe even throwing the Q word, and just end their misery altogether.
“They’re specialized lightweight first responders, any type of disaster you can think of, these guys can be there by yesterday and help you solve it. Last I heard, they were helping people in Spain due to their flooding. They even have K9s they train themselves, but they’re not your standard government issue rescue, they’re all volunteers.”
“Specialized in floodings?” McKay asked as she peeked beside Robby, trying to catch a better glimpse of the people they were talking about.
“Specialized in everything. Flooding, earthquakes, hurricanes, explosions, fires, you name it.”
“Damn, so they’re pretty badass.”
“Oh, so they’re those people who get under the rubble to pull people out?” Perlah scrolled, looking for more videos and pictures. By that moment, Dana was coming back to the nurse station, which immediately made Robby walk away in silence as he knew what was coming.
“Yeah, that’s why they’re called moles.”
“Wait, how do you guys have wi-fi and I can’t even get—?”
“Looking for anything here, folks?” Dana asked, which made Perlah and Princess scatter immediately. McKay tried to be more subtle, turning back slowly as if she’d just been there to grab a chart. Abbot disappeared before anyone even noticed.
“You’re scary.” Robby whispered, taking one of the coffees Dana offered him. She laughed, taking a sip of her own as she settled beside him. “Is your family okay?”
The hospital was safe, it seemed as the only place like that, for now. The worst of the heavy rain started right in the middle of the shift change, so they were working in a forced on-call rotation. Right now, most of the night shift was sleeping, at least the ones who could.
“Yeah, they left for Florida to visit the grandparents before all of this. At least I know they’re okay. What about you, is Jake okay?”
Jake. A whole unexplored topic for Dana to poke until he caved. Robby looked to the side before laughing to himself.
“He’s good. He’s talking to me now, which is way more than I expected. He and his mom are in a safe zone.”
“Well, yeah. I’m sure he’s feeling guilty about how he talked to you. It’s been almost a year.”
Dana didn’t push further. She didn’t have to. Instead, she stood next to Robby. He knew she was trying to comfort him, but at the same time, Dana would never escape the chance to try and pull him out of the gutter, no matter how much he grumbled about it.
“Stop looking at the board, it’s bad juju,” Samira whispered as she passed by. She had that same energetic bounce as the PittFest mass casualty hit.
“You believe in that stuff?” Robby asked, glancing one more time before walking away.
“You don’t?”.
Sixteen hours and at least two gallons of coffee later, Abbot and Robby started to despise the once beloved cafeteria sandwiches they were eating. Food supplies were still running low, so they were working with what they had and stretching it out as much as possible. But in all honesty, as their once-endless stack of coffee dwindled, things started to get very worrisome.
Doctors could live without food. They’d die within the hour without coffee.
It was noon when the rain stopped, or at least eased enough not to drown anytime you tried to come out. There was still an eerie silence as people mopped the entrance of the ED, but it seemed as if catastrophe was just creeping behind them. The TVs came back on, power was restored all over the hospital but they were told it could disappear again at any second. Gloria still made sure to come back and demand not to use any type of non-essential device, so everyone made sure to charge their phones somewhere she wouldn’t check.
Patients trickled in quietly. The cafeteria, waiting room, and other parts of the first floor turned into a shelter for those who couldn’t get to their home in time, or for the unfortunate unhoused who arrived at the shelters too late. By 2 o’clock, the ED was partially full.
“Hey, Robby,” Dana called from her spot. He walked over, giving Mel a few instructions for an incoming patient. Dana tapped her pen against the desk with a quiet sense of urgency, something she only did when facing a difficult choice. She allowed him to continue speaking even as he stood next to her.
“Command is asking for backup: emergency, surgery, and a nurse. Oh, and anyone else you can spare. Seems like the rescue guys are working overtime. ETA for transport is ten minutes.”
“Oh, yeah…” Robby looked around, scanning the ED before grabbing one of the phones to call surgery. “Can you call Abbot? He might be sleeping, but I need someone up front when I’m gone.”
“I’ll go wake him up myself. Do you want Jesse or Mateo in the field?”
“Either is good, ask them if— hello?”
Robby turned around right as Dana headed towards the call rooms, waving goodbye.
“Yes, Dr. Stevens, command just called. They need at least one from surgery on the field, plus anyone you can spare.”
He paused, the always unfortunate Whitaker walked by, just close enough for Robby to motion him over. “Garcia? Yes, she’ll be great. We leave in ten. Whitaker! Get a jacket, we’re leaving.”
“A jacket?” Whitaker whispered to himself and walked towards the locker rooms with more urgency than expected.
In the meantime, Robby took a final walk around the ED before heading out, but just as Jack walked next to Dana, go-bag in hand, he knew that wouldn’t be necessary. Jack would tackle him before missing the chance of running point at the triage zone.
“Get any good sleep?”
Robby didn’t stop walking, falling in step with Abbot as they reached the ambulance bay.
“I never miss the feeling of sleeping on the floor, but I’ll manage.”
“You can always steal one of those plastic chairs from the cafeteria.”
“And risk hurting my back again? No, thank you.”
They were the last ones to join the group.
Garcia snapped out of her phone but didn't say anything. Abbot dropped the bag on the ground. Rain needled the pavement, the faint wail of sirens layering over the already high tensions in the air.
“Got everything you need?”
Everyone nodded. Abbot stood in the middle of his newfound team and Robby. Silence filled the cracks. His mind raced to find some reassuring words, but he came out empty. He sucked at it. Finally, the transport unit showed up.
“Any words of encouragement, chief?” Abbot inquired once everyone was settled inside.
Robby’s gaze hit him, exasperated.
“Okay then. Let’s go.”
Finally, something broke the silence.
“Uhm, where are we going?”
Garcia, barely spared Whitaker a look, pressed lips into a line. Her fingers squeezed the backpack.
“Triage on site. They need someone to stabilize patients before they reach the hospital.”
Robby held onto the door, Abbot still urged him to say something. But maybe nothing was better.
“The van will take you as close to the disaster zone as possible,” he mumbled. “But there’s about a five-minute walk to reach the rescue teams.”
He paused.
“Good luck.”
Robby stopped himself from closing the door.
“Wait, I forgot.”
He smiled widely, unapologetic.
“We’re out of coffee, try to bring some back, or else.”
“Coffee?” Garcia snarked back, deadpan. “Even the Waffle House back in Washington is closed. Best I can give you is mud with stevia.”
“Damn” Mateo muttered. “Not even a limited menu? We’re in deep shit.”
“I know a Chinese place that’s still open, but they don’t do takeout today. Marco is out.”
Robby sighed in true defeat.
“Then just get the coffee. Organic.”
“Gravel is up to your taste?” Garcia suggested before Robby closed the van’s door for good.
Any sparkle of joy died almost instantly.
The silence was immediately replaced by the rattle of the van. No one said anything, or rather, no one knew what to say. They feared they were getting into something bigger than themselves.
And oh, how true that was.

hi!! i love your blog so much!! i was wondering if i could request a movie night with joaquin? or maybe with ash? (maybe ending a bit smutty or fluffy? 👀)
Movie Night Distractions
PAIRING: Joaquin Torres x Reader 💋
WORD COUNT: 692 ✍️
REQUESTS: Open! 💌 (send yours my way — I love writing them all!)
🌟 Danny Ramirez Masterlist
Tumblr media
The first warning sign was the way Joaquin threw himself across your couch like he owned it.
“Okay, what are we watching?” he asked, stretching his long legs across your lap without permission but without protest from you either.
You scrolled through the streaming options, pretending his weight wasn’t making your heart beat faster.
“I don’t know. Something that doesn’t require brain cells. You’ve killed most of mine already today.”
Joaquin grinned, dimples flashing. “Wow. And here I thought my charm was nurturing your brain.”
You snorted. “You threw popcorn at my face for twenty minutes.”
“Character building.”
“Uh huh.” You settled on some cheesy action comedy, mostly for background noise. “Fine. But if you quote every line of this movie, I’m kicking you out.”
He raised both hands innocently. “Scout’s honor.”
“You were never a scout.”
“Exactly. So I’m lying already.”
You couldn’t help laughing, leaning your head back against the couch. The movie started playing, but your attention was already drifting toward the man beside you.
Joaquin smelled like fresh soap and faint cologne, his hoodie soft against your arm where his shoulder pressed into yours. His legs stayed stubbornly across your lap, radiating heat through your sweatpants.
Ten minutes in, he nudged you.
“Hey.”
“Hmm?”
“Is it weird that I like hanging out with you more than anyone else?”
Your breath caught. But you played it cool. “No, it’s because I have snacks.”
He gave a low laugh. “Oh right. Totally the snacks. Not the fact that you’re—” He paused, smiling sideways at you, eyes crinkling. “Never mind.”
“What?” you challenged, narrowing your eyes.
“Nothing.”
“Joaquin.”
He smirked, turning his attention back to the movie. “Later.”
Oh, two could play that game.
You waited until he got too comfortable, head tilted back on the cushions, completely relaxed. Then you grabbed a pillow and dropped it on his face.
“What the hell—?!” he shouted, wrestling it off and laughing as you doubled over.
“Oops. Sorry. Character building.”
“Oh, it’s on, Y/N.”
And suddenly, he lunged, tackling you sideways on the couch. His hands found your sides and started tickling mercilessly.
“Joaquin—stop—no!” you gasped between laughs, squirming under him.
“Say I’m the best movie night guest of all time!”
“Never!”
“Say it!”
“Fine! You’re the best, you annoying manchild—”
He grinned in triumph, his hands slowing. But he didn’t move away. You both froze, suddenly aware of the fact that his body was pinning yours down, your faces inches apart, your chest rising and falling fast against his.
Silence.
Joaquin’s eyes dropped to your lips, and his voice softened.
“You know I’ve wanted to kiss you for, like, months now, right?”
Your stomach flipped.
“Yeah,” you whispered. “I kind of figured.”
He gave you a crooked smile, a little shy beneath all his confidence.
“So... can I?”
You bit your lip. “Took you long enough to ask.”
And then his mouth was on yours, warm and searching, hands cradling your face so gently it made your chest ache.
The movie kept playing forgotten in the background.
You tangled your fingers in his hair, pulling him impossibly closer, and he groaned softly against your lips like he’d been waiting for this forever.
When you finally broke apart, breathless and flushed, he rested his forehead against yours.
“Okay, best movie night ever,” he whispered.
You laughed, brushing your thumb across his jaw. “We didn’t even finish the movie.”
“Don’t care. Got distracted.”
He kissed you again, slower this time, less teasing and more like a promise.
“Stay the night?” you asked, voice barely audible.
He smiled, soft and sure.
“Wasn’t planning on leaving.”
Joaquin shifted to sit up, pulling you along with him until you were straddling his lap, his hands firm on your hips.
“Comfortable?” he teased, tilting his head.
“Very.”
Your fingers slipped under his hoodie, brushing against warm skin. He hissed softly at the contact, but didn’t stop you.
“I thought this was a movie night,” he said, voice low, playfully accusing.
“Change of plans.”
And you kissed him again, deeper this time, until both of you forgot about the movie, the couch, and anything else that wasn’t this.

Alright so some thoughts on the new trailer as someone who read the comic.
Nut you will forever be the perfect Woradet/Prince
You can see more of the actual plot here bc I promise y'all it's not a a silly harem comedy. It's mostly dark historical political drama. You can see that here way better than the previous videos
Seems like they're still making it a harem?? (at least love triangle w/ Banjong) but also keeping the action and political plot. My guess is bc they wanted to insert more romance bc they're promoting it as a bl with bl actors. The comic is like 85% action, and 15% romance.
Banjong romance, if you could call it that, is extremely short lived in the comic. That being said, I'm curious how they're gonna include it. Cause if they do it right it'll make Banjong's plot line hit so much harder.
The king is still not a child and it messes w/ my mind. I'm begging them not to add him to the harem. That's just weird
I still need Kosol to be more evil and violent. Tsundere Kosol please.
I'm excited!! A bit worried if it'll do the comic justice, bit of a high bar. But I'm hopeful!! If they hit their mark, the show might just become one of the best bls!!
You'll probably see me doing little comparisons between comic and series as the show airs.

Rings of Power Characters Favourite Reading Genres
Galadriel – Insists she only reads non-fiction, because why would you waste your time reading about people and places that aren’t real. Would rather die than admit she likes romantasy.
Elrond – One of those rare people who actually likes literary fiction and will bore people to death talking about it. His guilty pleasure is Dan Brown books, which only Durin knows about.
Gil-galad – Usually too busy reading articles and journals for work, but does like a bit of poetry.
Celebrimbor – Classic sci fi nerd. Arthur C Clarke is his hero.
Cirdan – Goes on about books that were written centuries ago that no one knows anything about.
Arondir – Loves books about natural sciences and gardening. He and Galadriel host a monthly non-fiction book club – they’re the only ones who attend.
Durin IV – Action thrillers all the way. The more nonsensical the plot, the better. Once read a poem about a tree that made him cry for 3 days straight.
Disa – Loves fantasy with strong female characters and interesting magic systems.
King Durin III – Listens to audio books but won’t tell you what they’re about.
Narvi – Loves comedies and can often be found sat in an alcove roaring with laughter over his latest read.
Theo – Uses a kindle only, mostly so people won’t be able to tell what he’s reading. Secretly a fan of trashy romance.
Estrid – Reads romance, but surprisingly discerning in her taste and likes complex relationships.
Isildur - Just reads what Estrid reads and has the same opinions Estrid has.
Elendil – Loves old legends with dashing heroes and fair maidens. Loves writing self insert fanfiction where he is the dashing hero and Miriel is the fair maiden.
Miriel – Is that person who will recommend an obscure book that you’ve never heard of, then it turns out to be the best thing you’ve ever read and completely changes your life. How does she find these books? No one knows. (She definitely knows about Elendil's fanfic though.)
Pharazon – Reads motivational self help books. None of them do him any good.
Earien – Likes a good political treatise or spy thriller. Will discuss them intensely as you sit there wondering what the hell she’s talking about.
Valandil – Bizarrely loves the classics. He can talk about Jane Austen all day long.
Kemen – Doesn’t read. Listens to podcasts about how to be an alpha male. Worst person you’ve ever met.
Nori – Loves adventure stories where characters discover new and exciting lands.
Poppy – Fantasy queen. Prolific reader. If you ever mention you like fantasy, she will give you a recommendation list as long as your arm.
The Stranger – Gets way too emotionally invested in characters and has been banned from reading after The Very Hungry Caterpillar destroyed him for a week. (“Why does he never have enough to eat?!”)
Adar – Loves histories, and particularly enjoys discussing where great leaders went wrong. Once read a parenting book and tried out various tips and tricks on the orcs, which was very confusing for all concerned.
Tom Bombadil – Reads Lord of the Rings and looks into the camera like he’s on The Office.
Sauron – Read Mein Kampf and decided Hitler didn’t go far enough. Loves psychological thrillers. Reads the romantasy books Galadriel likes so he can message her incessantly about them (she leaves him on read).

If you’re still doing the ship headcanons, can you do Joe x Louis?
I’m totally normal about them
Most certainly! And @takoluka-magurofever also requested them, so tagging you as well! Yep, Joe/Louis was the other couple besides Zoevid that got requested twice, which, I'll be honest, actually surprised me a bit! But anyways, onto the headcanons!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At least they're together now in, uh....not heaven.
If they lived together, they'd certainly need more than one bathroom because Louis would take FOREVER to get ready in the morning (mostly because he's doing his hair). His hands would be covered in products as he meticulously curled his hair, and if they only had one bathroom, Joe would be knocking on the door, begging for Louis to let him use the restroom before he went to work. Louis would say, "Hang on, I'm almost done" (he's been saying that for the past 40 minutes).
They'd be so chatty when watching movies together, everything from drama to comedy to romance to action to suspense, to literally whatever. They'd flop on their couch, commenting on what they're watching, even if they'd dislike other people commenting when watching stuff with them. But with the two of them, it's fine.
Unrelated note: It would suck to watch something with Bateman, especially as he'd probably mostly like really violent films and laugh really loudly if he found something amusing.
I was joking around with two of my friends, and one of them misread something I typed as "Louis has a Costco membership," and we came up with the idea that he does indeed have one. Rozetta, Julia, and Bateman steal it whenever they want to go the store to buy whatever, but Joe always asks nicely first, and he and Louis go to the store to snack on samples and buy whatever they need.
Joe felt incredibly guilty that he wasn't able to break Louis out of prison in time, even though he tried to focus on keeping the rest of his friends alive in Newmark to distract himself from his grief...but that didn't stop him from having nightmares that manifested from his fear, guilt, grief, everything, nightmares that got worse throughout Newmark to the point where he was indeed ready to die by the end of Blaze of Glory.
You know how Joe was canonically the only person Louis told that the neohumans were a hivemind who were biologically compelled to have absolute loyalty to their leader? I headcanon Louis only told Joe this is because, one, not only did Louis trust Joe the most out of everyone in Ad Astra, but also because Louis did NOT trust Bateman, the only other member of AA not in prison when he found out, with said information, thinking Bateman would try to take control of the army and do something crazy/violent/impulsive with the neohumans if he could, and both Louis and Joe were afraid that if Rozetta and Julia were told about the biological loyalty, they wouldn't want to keep a secret from Bateman.
In the period between Denise causing the blackout to stop Louis from sending the message about Plan Supernova going "wrong" to the rest of Ad Astra and Louis being arrested, when Louis was panicking, knowing he was being hunted by Denise, he was scared enough that he wanted to spend his nights with Joe for safety, not wanting to be alone in his home. (Louis might've begged Bateman for shelter at his large, secure, busy estate, but Bateman would probably laugh him off and tell him to man up/that he was panicking about nothing/vastly overestimating the threat Denise posed.) However, Louis was extremely torn about sheltering with Joe, not wanting to make Joe a primary target of Denise as well.
Related to the above, when Louis, Joe, and Bateman were meeting after Louis broke into the dome and where Louis was clearly freaking out, Bateman was openly indifferent and apathetic to Louis' fear. Joe was trying to calm Louis down, frustrated by Bateman's complete lack of empathy. (Yeah, that's what happens when you "befriend" a violent sociopath, dude.)
After Louis murdered Zoe and drove home to change out of his bloody clothing, he tried to call Joe multiple times. When Joe was finally able to answer his phone, Louis basically had a panic attack over the phone, saying how badly he'd screwed up in panicking/losing his temper and killing Zoe, aka the only person they could've used to learn more about the serum, and how they now had no good way to learn about the effects of the serum and fight against Denise, and how Louis was terrified of being either arrested by the police or murdered by Denise. Joe, with much difficulty, managed to calm Louis down, saying that Louis needed to change and go to work where he'd be safe in public, and as soon as Joe could, he'd help Louis escape to either their secret hideout or make Bateman hide him before anyone could hunt him down, but, well, we know what happened to Louis instead.
Speaking of...Joe learned of Louis' death at work in excruciating detail. Mandy/Joe's deputy mayor (weird that we never met them, but I assume he had one?? Where tf were they during all this nonsense lmao) told him there'd been a violent murder at the prison. Joe froze, getting a suddenly horrible gut feeling, but managed to ask, who, what happened? You can probably imagine how horrified he was when he learned the prisoner's name and how he died: limbs blown off in a huge explosion, thrown against a wall, severely burned, blood everywhere, clearly died in agony and terror. Joe's mask slipped for just a moment, enough that the bearer of bad news asked if he was alright. Joe forced a smile, saying it was just disturbing news, before dismissing the person from his office and then having a bit of a breakdown at his desk, before calling up Bateman, saying they needed to get Rozetta and Julia out of prison ASAP before they were murdered, even if it meant taking the serum.
Shoot, okay. That was multiple angsts in a row. Now for a lighthearted one. I was joking with @astra-galaxie and said Louis would be the Daphne of Ad Astra, in the sense that he would be constantly getting kidnapped. I added that he'd be a very annoying hostage, either always screaming or threatening to sue his abductors/expose their secrets on CCN, and Astra said that the real reason Rozetta didn't want the members of Ad Astra to interact in public was to prevent anyone from thinking Louis was important enough to Joe to abduct, and then said that the abductors would drop Louis off at Joe's house due to being extremely annoyed by Louis. That inspired me to sketch this at work:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Louis is a complainer, always whining about something, such as annoying people at work and annoying people he has to interview. I can imagine him flopped on a coach, legs hanging off the side, as Joe sits next to him, nodding along and listening, because Joe is a good listener and advice-giver.
And finally, Louis, for the life of him, cannot open jars. He is always asking Joe for help to do so.
And that's a wrap! I hope you enjoyed these, both of you! I actually have a comic regarding one of these headcanons cooking (and almost done), so stay tuned for that....
(Hint: it'll be angsty.)

Hey uhh this might sound weird or if this makes you uncomfortable you don't got to answer but the bone King which comes from the original creator doesn't the bone King does not like Mac? And keeps him around or something it's a horror au. And I have to ask with all due respect why did you change it when you make the art or comedy of the bone King? Because from when I sing from the original the bone King doesn't seem to like Mac too much but keep him around though because Mac keeps their mind a bit quiet. And isn't the bone King like a merged being? I'm quite curious though that's all.
Don't worry, I have no problem answering. ^^ Honestly, it turned out that way because I didn't really understand the Bone King of this universe or why Macaque was still alive at this point. And because I'm not good at horror. Still, I liked the vibe. I mostly thought Bone King kept Macaque as a kind of pet, or something you got used to having around and got used to keeping or something like that, so he didn't necessarily want it to break or disappear too long away from him. And in itself, yes, Bone King is a fused being. But then I wondered, how much does he remember the people around him? His vision of things seemed a little confused to me. I really see it as if he is himself, and that Wukong and LBD are locked away in the back of his mind, and that sometimes, a strong emotion from them comes out and influences his actions. Basically, that's it. I hope that's understandable…

✨Some random stuff about stuntman AU actor Wukong ✨
He mostly acts in action comedy movies
His big break was very early on in his career and he’s been maintaining popularity ever since
At the start of the AU he is one of the biggest most popular actors currently working with little to no controversy
He owns a successful line of peach flavored drinks and snacks as in exclusively peach flavored nothing else. Many times his manager fans and business partners have asked him to add more flavors but every time he refuses while saying something about “brand integrity”. Many joke about how if he wasn’t attached to the brand it would have flopped years ago.
He’s a bit taller than Macaque and never lets him forget that
While he doesn’t do most of his own stunts he still does some small stuff like minor fight scenes and the occasional backflip. He’s pulled out the backflip and basic combat stances whenever possible to show off including a few less than appropriate situations once accidentally smacking his co star during a red carpet. The video went viral almost immediately
Definitely has a crush on his stunt man Macaque but handles it terribly. He doesn’t even realize it’s a crush for a big chunk of the relationship only properly realizing and acting on it when it’s too late
A bit jealous about competition but hides it well under his goofy star quality attitude
Very trusted and well connected after being in so many projects plus his popularity definitely helps

unpopular opinion, i guess, but despite the fact that nicole claims to be a sociopath, i really don’t think she is. (that being said, she still isn’t a good person.)
throughout the game, she does express empathy and sympathy for characters like jecka, ari, or even jeffery, but will actively choose to ignore her wrong doings in order to peserve her own piece of mind- something that most teenagers do. in each of the endings, nicole will reflect on the actions she took to end up where she did. her reactions can range from denial to her own faults to a realization of what she really did.
though it’s a comedy game, so everything is incredibly exaggerated, nicole is clearly depressed and extremely suicidal. she’s addicted to drugs to distract herself from her own thoughts, which allows her to feel better, even if just temporarily. i think her numbness and recklessness probably come more from her disregard for her own life, rather than for a desire for entertainment. she also has no positive role models, as her brother is slobbish and lazy, and her mother is abusive and irresponsible.
nicole was implied to be a relatively normal person before the events of both games, having become popular in her other school once she became pretty. she also talks about what it felt like to be considered an outcast and to be left out. during the game’s opening, she says she used to be nice and and friendly to people, but she ends up changing her tune just before the events of the game begin, choosing to decide not to care about anyone but herself. she even explains this to her mom during one of the routes.
from what i gathered, her dad was a nice person who was constantly taken advantage of by people (including nicole’s mom), which led him to kill himself. nicole was probably traumatized from watching her father’s suicide, and decided after watching it happen (and having the only words on his suicide note being “nicole’s fault”) that being nice wasn’t worth it.
for example, after the whole school turns on her in the suicide ending, nicole describes how hopeless and miserable she felt. she says how she learned exactly what people wanted from her, which was sex more often than not. she spends the entire route being friendly to people (mostly boys) she doesn’t like for the sake of “being nice” and getting them to like her, only for it to blow up in her face because she didn’t want to sleep with them. she feels taken advantage of, just like her dad, which drives her to suicide.
regarding her apparent lack of empathy, she is said to feel sorry for what she did to ari, though she chooses to ignore it because guilt makes her feel bad. as jecka pointed out, ari didn’t really do anything wrong, which makes nicole feel upset because she knows she messed up. it’s clear that nicole has a morale code, though it’s a bit twisted. she hates people who are homophobic, racist, sexist, etc. (she makes a few odd comments throughout the game, but my point still stands). her lack of remorse comes to people like kyler, who nicole hates because he is a known rapist and misogynist.
as i said before, jecka, ari, and jeffery are probably the best examples of nicole feeling bad for others.
jecka is nicole’s best friend and the person she cares most about. a key moment in the game that shows this is when jecka gets mad at nicole and they temporarily end their friendship. after realizing she’s in the wrong, nicole goes to apologize by getting herself stuck with the counselor (a man she openly hates) all year so that jecka can smoke in peace again, which was something she’d previously complained about.
ari is important because i think she represents nicole’s own sexuality. while nicole is overly harsh and abusive towards her in one of the routes, in the other, she supports ari at first, telling her that even though coming out might seem tough, nobody cares and that most people would be fine with it. i personally believe nicole is gay herself (based on her respective interactions with jecka and emily) and i think that how she chooses to treat ari is based on how nicole feels about herself.
regarding jeffery, nicole probably sees a bit of herself in him. therefore, since nicole hates herself, i think it led her to immediately hate him too. (that’s not to say he isn’t weird and annoying, of course.) jeffery is the school loser that everyone either ignores or abuses. nicole says in the opening that she used to be that kid too. in jeffery’s deranged texts to nicole, he says a lot of the things that nicole had said herself. in one of the routes, nicole can choose to talk jeffery off of the ledge, which leads him not to kill himself nor shoot up the school. (i think jeffery has schizophrenia, so there’s that.)
but like i said, just because nicole isn’t exactly a sociopath doesn’t mean she’s not a bad person. she’s still pretty awful and makes dumb and harmful decisions. i think she’s lowkey a well written character that’s really funny, but has a moments that actual inspire reflection.
anyways, i wanna know what yall think. i could be wrong, and she really could be a genuine sociopath or have sociopathic tendencies, because as i understand, sociopaths are made, not born.

The Best Panels of One Piece, Romance Dawn (chapter 1-7)

Full video scripts below the cut
Chapter 1:
What are the best panels in One Piece?
Chapter 1, being the very first one, obviously has quite a few contenders. Luffy's very first Gum Gum Pistol is an obvious one, setting the tone of One Piece's battles with its mixture of goofy and badass. Plus, god damn, even in chapter one Oda knew how to do an epic splash page.
I also like this panel, where Lucky Roux shoots a mountain bandit in the head. This too is a major tone setter, driving home the seriousness and danger of pirate life. The story up to this point mostly plays as fairly lighthearted comedy, and seeing the jolly cartoon fat guy casually murder a man shocks the audience a little bit. Despite the cartoony artstyle, this isn't a kiddy pirate adventure.
But the crown has to go to the passing of the straw hat from Shanks to Luffy. It's a panel that has only ever taken on more meaning as the story has gone on, and the symbol of the straw hat has taken on more and more importance. It represents the promise between Luffy and Shanks to meet again, Shanks recognizing Luffy as an equal, and it's the passing of a torch. That straw hat means something, and Shanks is passing it on to someone who he feels is a worthy heir to that significance. “Romance Dawn” indeed.
Chapter 2:
What are the best panels in One Piece?
Chapter 2 is all about establishing Luffy's character now that he's grown up, and especially the scale of the odds he's up against. What does his dream to be king of the pirates really mean?
And this is where Oda shows his skill not just as an action and comedy artist, but as a storyteller. He introduces Koby the Cabin Boy, a character who mostly exists to contrast Luffy. Scared, self-defeating and cowardly, even his body language is Luffy's direct opposite.
When Luffy says he will be king of the pirates, Oda drops the angle down low, playing Luffy's chill, unaffected sitting posture against Koby's shouting. His arms are wide, foreshortening even out of the panel as the nervous boy tries to communicate the jaw-dropping scale of what Luffy has said he will accomplish. "Don't tell me you're after the One Piece"?
We feel the weight of Koby's astonishment here, the monumental nature of what Luffy has promised to do. The One Piece isn't a silly bed-time story for children, it is a real thing, and to go after it is to march to almost certain death. And the fact that Luffy is so casual about it, because he has accepted death, is not normal. Luffy is not normal, and Oda establishes this visually through acting in every interaction he has with Koby.
Chapter 3:
What are the best panels in One Piece?
Chapter 3 introduces Zoro with this amazing panel, which, given how much of a martyr he is for the crew and Luffy, WOW what a hell of an establishing shot. But it also establishes one of the great running themes of One Piece, which is the abuse of power, and the value of freedom. Helmeppo lords his status as a navy failson over the townsfolk, abusing his position and status in a way we will see villains in the story do over and over again.
And Luffy does what Luffy will always do to those who use their power in this way. When he learns that Helmeppo lied to Zoro, let him believe he would be free if he survived a month tied up, only to plan an execution behind his back…
This happens.
There are many reasons One Piece is a fun and satisfying narrative to follow, Oda's dynamic and exciting art is a big one for me, but the thing I love the most might the vicious delight the story takes in showing us the ruling classes getting the ass-kicking they so richly deserve.
Chapter 4:
What are the best panels in One Piece?
Chapter 4 gives us perhaps one of the weakest villain designs in the series, which is Axe-Hand Morgan. His obsession with power and control foreshadows many of One Piece's best villains, but… hoo boy, not Oda's best character design.
On a better note, though, we're getting one of the most important recurring story beats in the narrative, which is the effect Luffy has on people around him. Koby, who not two chapters ago was a cowering appeasing wretch, walks into the execution grounds to free Zoro because he can't stand to see the navy oppressing people this way. He accepted abuse from Alvida, but no more. Luffy changes the people around him, and the most important thing he does is set them free of their fear. He teaches people to pursue their freedom, even if it costs them their lives. He will do this many times throughout the story, and Koby won't be the last person who almost dies to chase the dream Luffy kindled in them.
Chapter 5:
What are the best panels in One Piece?
In Chapter 5 the obvious choice might be Luffy taking bullets for his friends in the nick of time, which is a very Luffy thing to do, but I think the best panel is something much quieter. We get a flashback to Zoro's backstory, and his rivalry with childhood friend and swordfighting prodigy Kuina, who is idly one of the most transmasculine characters in anime history.
The panel that strikes me the most in this chapter, though, is this one. It's just a little transitional panel, Kuina lying there, dead, with the words "humans are fragile things Zoro" hovering above. Oda uses crosshatching to just barely hint at the eye sockets under the cloth, which otherwise erases Kuina's face, erasing identity, erasing life. It's such a quiet and disquieting panel, such a matter-of-fact reminder of cold mortality in the middle of all Zoro's hotblooded shouting. It's a death that is so meaningless, and Zoro, in taking Kuina's sword with him, is trying desperately to make it meaningful. If he becomes the greatest swordsman in the world, then everyone will know that Kuina was his greatest rival.
I think it's the same reason so many One Piece fans want Tashigi to turn out to be Kuina in the end. Because the idea that people can just vanish from our lives, so coldly and so pointlessly… it's a scary thought to have.
Chapter 6:
What are the best panels in One Piece?
In Chapter 6, the easy answer, I guess, is the big epic Oda splash page of the Gum Gum Whip taking out a dozen Marines, but… I mean you know it has to be the introduction of the Three Sword Style. Dear Zoro, with his cool bandana and his intense looks and his tragic backstory… and here he is with a sword in his mouth.
This is the power of One Piece. Because on the one hand, this is stupid. This is objectively stupid. Holding a sword in your mouth is dumb, this looks dumb, this doesn't work, this is cartoon nonsense that doesn't make any goddamn sense.
On the other hand… this totally fucking rules. Oda presents it so perfectly with that hunched over power pose blocking ten swords at once, and the black bandana over his head, although I'll never forgive the translators for covering this much of the art over with sound effects. You miss the rope still falling from his body and the scabbards still in the air from Zoro unsheating them so fast. This panel bypasses every critical neuron in my brain, and speaks to the primal, stupid lizard and monkey part of my man brain that goes "ooooh, three swords cool!" And nobody does that like Oda.
Chapter 7:
What are the best panels in One Piece?
Chapter 7 sees our first parting of ways, with Koby remaining behind to enlist in the Marines. It's mostly an exposition chapter, a cool down from all the action with Axe Hand Morgan, but Oda once again uses what could be boring exposition to do good character building. Because Luffy and Zoro are pirates, they can't stay in a navy town, and as they leave, Luffy begins to spill the beans on how Koby was a cabin boy for a pirate, which might ruin his chances to enlist. And Koby, desperately torn up about saying goodbye to his first real friend… punches Luffy to shut him up. Which then becomes evidence that Koby isn't with them, isn't a pirate, so he can enlist.
It's the first moment Koby fully asserts himself, it's the first punch he throws for his dream as a Marine, but it is also a moment of revelation. However simple-minded Luffy seems, so straightforward and oblivious, here he reveals a deep understanding not only of other people but of the things they need, the push they need to find their courage. He pushes Koby's buttons to force him to commit to his dream, to force him to renounce piracy, and when Koby does… Luffy couldn't be more proud. And maybe a little smug.

request: "Hello, can you write headcannons on the reader taking the Lin Kuei trio to the movies as a date?" warnings: none | notes: maybe a bit ooc? also was very tired while writing this so maybe some writing mistakes

Bi-han is most certainly not a movie guy.
I believe he would lean towards more 'traditional' dates, like going out to dinner or late night walks.
Being the grandmaster of the Lin Kuei, he wouldn't have a whole lot of time for dates. He might also think they are a waste of time most of the time, he thinks there are better ways to show his love for you. But the few times he will initiate dates, he wants it to be somewhere remote, where it is only the two of you. Bi-han has a hard time showing his emotions, and an even harder time saying them, so he prefers to be alone with you to fully express his love.
When you give the idea of going to the movies with him, he is initially against it. He doesn't have a whole lot of movies or films that he is fond of, mostly because he thinks that it is useless fiction.
You are finally able to convince him tag along with you, convincing him that the movie you are going to see would have many fight scenes and said that the two of you could critique them together. You knew that was something you could draw him in with.
You planned a day you knew there wouldn't be many people in the theater so Bi-han wouldn't feel the need to be anxious or tense. You got decent seats in the middle of the theater.
He kept his rough hand over your own the entire time, squeezing it tightly. It was almost a security blanket for him, knowing that you were here and weren't leaving.
He paid close attention to the movie, actually getting quite interested, looking down at you a couple times with your head leaning on his chest.
Once you leave, Bi-han would be talking about the movie on the walk home, criticizing how the characters acted and none of the fight scenes would actually play out that way. Even though he was critiquing it, you knew he actually payed attention and wanted to express his thoughts with you.
→ 𝐊𝐮𝐚𝐢 𝐋𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐠
Kuai Liang thinks that movies are such a fun experience
He loves watching action-comedies with you. He also just loves the idea of being comfy and relaxing with you. Anything that involved him and you just being able to enjoy each other's presence was something he absolutely fawned over.
You told him you had this idea to go see a new adventure style comedy movie and he was filled with excitement. He will stand at the concession stand for a while until he knew that the two of you had everything you needed before watching the movie.
Always on time, usually even early so he can get snacks before the movie starts. He wants to make sure everything is perfect for you so that you can relax and be the most comfortable. Kuai Liang is always going to go out of his way to do the absolute best for you, no matter what it is. You are a god/goddess to him and he would worship you any chance he gets.
Gets really into the movie and the plot line. If you really enjoyed the movie as he did, you two will talk for hours on different parts you enjoyed and how you hope there will be another one.
On your walk home, he will tightly hold your hand while thanking you multiple times for being able to bring him along to the movies and saying how he will never get tired of going out with you. Kuai Liang will pour his heart out to you over and over again until he is drowning you in kisses from the top of your head to your collarbone.
→ 𝐓𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐬
This man adores movies with you.
To be fair, Tomas adores doing almost anything with you. Any sort of outing with just the two of you makes him so happy, as if he couldn't ask for anything else.
Will watch any type of movie with you: comedy, romance, action, horror, etc.
would 100% watch Johnny Cage movies
Once you asked him to go the movies with you, his face lit up and he immediately accepted.
Will plan the entire day around you going to the movies. He will plan a lunch/dinner to go out with you before going to the movies and then would buy a handful of sweets for both you and himself from the movies concession stand. Once the movie would start, Tomas would be leaning down to your ear to comment on anything interesting he'd see in the movie or something he would laugh at with you.
Would have his arm slung around you, either around your shoulders or draped across your waist so that he could hold onto you while he looked up at the movie screen. He'd be smiling and smirking at you every couple of minutes and leaning in to press a kiss to the top of your head.
Wants to go see every new movie with you and will buy tickets early to secure seats for new and upcoming movies.

Chapter 4: "You like Pac-man, right?"
"How dare you!"
You’ve just finished entering the final character to G0d$l@yeR_69 when you look up from the post-game leaderboard screen.
"Pardon?" you ask in confusion, slightly alarmed by the speed in which a masked man is walking towards you and the Pac-man machine. Even with the mask, the exaggerated furrow marring the man’s forehead is more than enough for you to discern that he is less than pleased. You square your shoulders, in case you need to defend the precious apparatus. Well, that and protect Lee-ssi, but mostly the Pac-man game.
"You're G0d$l@yeR_69?" the man squawks, voice irate. He gives you a once over and bristles further. You can almost imagine his fluffy hair rising like the feathers of an offended bird, and he… kind of sounds like one, too. You struggle to stifle your snicker when he gestures broadly to your grown stature, incredulous even as he finally discerns to himself, “You’re not some pint-sized punk!”
“And yet here you are, humbled all the same.” you respond haughtily, dusting off the imaginary lint off your burgundy dress. “Based on your reaction, I take it you’re ‘Jin the PacMan God’?”
You pause.
Wait.
Jin?
In fact, this offended cockatoo of a man actually looks… familiar. Broad shoulders, nice eyebrows, and –
Your blood pressure skyrockets as you realize exactly who is yelling at you. Unfortunately, your temper rises faster than your self-preservation.
"I'm sorry, BTS Jin is the same stupid kid who calls himself 'Jin the PacMan God?'" you blurt before you can stop yourself. "What self-respecting adult wastes so much time on an arcade game?"
He raises an eyebrow at you with a pointed stare, and you shrug. You don't fit into that category. You certainly don't respect yourself.
"A grown woman calls herself G0d$l@yeR_69?" Kim Seokjin jabs in return, crossing his arms, now looking more sulky than angry.
"Well, it's accurate to lore," you retort with an uncaring flip of your hair, doing your best to look bored rather than reflect the panic beginning to clog your throat. His genuinely offended gasp would have made you laugh if you weren't currently running through the possible exit routes in your head.
And then Jin says, "Well, you must be cheating!"
The egregious accusation dispels all thoughts of escape from your head. Your pride and integrity as a gamer have been insulted, and you narrow your eyes at the self-proclaimed pro-gamer before you.
You’re fully prepared to defend your honor.
It's on.
┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈
Jimin doesn't get it.
How could he be unlucky enough to get sidelined a second time in a row? He wasn't even late this time! But because there had been more men than women (a bit heteronormative for his tastes, but that's the current state of most official speed-dating events), he and a few others had to wait aside for a rotation. And then somehow, everyone had already decided to pair up before he even got to meet anyone!
Perhaps it's karma and he's being punished for telling his Jin-hyung that he sort of kind of definitely looked like a certain pink Moluccan bird species when he was all riled up and red-eared.
With a sigh, he leaves the building, shoulders slumped. He can't quite bring himself to call Jin yet, and so he decides to walk aimlessly for a while. Perhaps some fresh air will cheer him up.
It's a bustling street, and he nervously brings his mask up higher on his face lest he be recognized. No one seems to be paying attention however, and the people going about their daily lives remind him that despite his woes, life goes on.
An arcade catches his eye, and he shrugs to himself. A few rounds of killing zombies or racing fake cars will take his mind off things. It's a school day, so it's unlikely the place will be packed.
When he walks in, he hears a familiar screech, accompanied by the sound of a boot stomping on the ground.
"Yahhh! How did you do that?! That's not fair!"
What is Jin-hyung doing here? And what is he yelling about?
Curious, he follows the voice past the shopkeeper who looks torn between concern and amusement, to where Jin is ranting at someone obscured by his frame.
A p(r)etty sigh.
"I'm sorry this is so difficult for you to get through that coconut haircut of yours, but has it occurred to you that I'm just better?"
Huh, that voice is also familiar.
"That’s just prepos–"
"...Hyung?"
The voices cease as the two arguers turn to look at Jimin, and he feels his breath catch in his throat.
You look particularly lovely today, with a form-fitting burgundy dress that shows off much more soft-looking skin than the business or lounge attire you wear on the rare occasion he actually sees you.
And his Jin-hyung, next to you, all rose-colored cockatoo.
It's more than enough to set Jimin off-balance.
"Oh! Hi, LN-ssi!" he hurriedly squeaks, cursing his voice for cracking. What are all his voice lessons even for?
At least you can't tell his palms are suddenly sweating. Your eyebrows rise and Jimin realizes you never did tell him your name, that he just saw it on your mailbox and it stuck in his brain. Oh no, do you think he's a stalker now?
"You know this phony?" Jin cries, oblivious to the internal crisis his dongsaeng is currently experiencing.
Jimin's brows crinkle. Phony?
Your head whips to his hyung at his words, your eyes narrowing.
"I believe you saw proof with your own two eyes," you say icily, though your gaze has a fire that makes Jimin gulp. "Maybe you should get them checked? Sometimes they can fail with old age."
Jin's jaw drops, and as a constipated sound of outrage leaves him, you take the opportunity to brush past and march to the exit. Jimin, still confused, steps aside automatically to let you pass and you give him a reluctant nod.
"Jimin-ssi."
As you leave, Jin turns to Jimin to demand answers, but he barely hears it over the fluttering in his tummy.
It's the first time you've ever addressed him by name.
┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈
The twelve-year-old boy opens his hand, revealing hard candy wrapped in shiny, yellow paper.
"You like Pac-man, right?" he asks, smiling brighter than the sun.
You accept his offering, sure your own face is radiant enough to power all of Gwangju. You can't say you have strong feelings for the buttery treat, but you do for the little boy who fills your days with laughter and sweet memories. You could spend forever playing with him at the park by your houses…
Except your parents get the brilliant idea of starting their own restaurant in Seoul. You are heartbroken when the decision to move is made, but you do your best to support their dreams, even if it comes at the expense of your only friend.
Out of sentimentality and denial, you save the shiny candy wrapper, holding it when you're sad, as if it's a talisman that can ward off the lonely ache in your chest. It's hard being the new kid in a big-city school, and though you present your mother's strong facade when your new classmates tease you about your satoori, it hurts. You have to be strong.
After one particularly bad day, you decide to drop into the local arcade, because all it will take is one smile from your appa to disintegrate your cracking veneer. You're a big girl, basically an adult at a whopping eleven years old! You're not a baby anymore, you just need some extra time to set yourself right.
You weave through the attractions, passing racing games and claw machines when something catches your eye. A familiar yellow character smiles at you from a game cabinet, and for a moment you feel like he is still there with you.
You walk up to the Pac-man arcade machine with newfound resolve and a sunny smile to match.
┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈
“Sometimes I wanna drop by Gwangju,” Jung Hoseok begins, taking his seat at the dining table next to Taehyung, “But then I remember they already demolished the playplace from my childhood and think, huh, maybe not. Thing is, they sold really good tteok there.”
“Pan-fried tteok?” Taehyung leans back, remembering the taste of his own favorite rice cake flavors from Daegu. “My hometown had that, too.”
“Sometimes the cart owner-ahjussi would give us candy with our orders. I miss it a lot.”
Hobi's eyes take on a wistful look, and Taehyung pats his shoulder.
It must have been some really good candy.
┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈
"Honey! I'm home!" you call, setting your briefcase on the floor as your husband rushes up to you wearing a cute apron that has nothing on his sweet face and sweeter smile.
"I just finished dinner," he says, greeting you with a kiss on the cheek that makes your chest fill with the glow of a million fireflies.
"What, mudcakes again?" you ask fondly. You thread your fingers with his, uncaring of the dirt on his palms, giggling at the pout on his face.
"You said they're your favorite!" he complains petulantly, though he doesn't pull away.
"They are," you agree, squeezing his hand in yours reassuringly. You beam at him, and his cheeks turn pink. "If it's something you made, it's my favorite."
You're suddenly tugged towards him and you squeak in surprise as wiry arms crush the air out of your lungs.
"You're my favorite," he mumbles into your hair, and it's the happiest you've felt in your entire nine years of existence.

It's great to be back in Gwangju, away from all the insanity happening in Seoul. You can finally relax and live life rather than constantly look over your shoulder in the fear of running into another member of BTS.
Fuck you, fate! You're taking a break.
You knock on the old, familiar door, and it opens to reveal a kind, lightly lined face that breaks into a huge smile at the sight of you.
"Halmeoni!" you announce happily, stepping into your grandmother's arms and hugging her fiercely. She hugs you back just as hard, squeezing you with her deceptively spindly limbs as you melt into a hold that feels like childhood.
"We've been waiting!" she replies cheerfully before ushering you to the living room and calling your grandpa to come greet you. The house is the same as you remember, a comforting echo of days past.
"Oh! We ran into that boy you used to play with at the store earlier!" your grandma says just as you pick up your cup of tea. "The one you used to play house with!"
You laugh, thinking fondly of your childhood friend. Perhaps it wouldn't have been so bad if he had been your soulmate, rather than a group of the seven biggest idols in Korea. Or perhaps not – the things that are so simple to children don't always translate to adulthood, and those memories hold an untainted innocence that you wouldn't trade for the world.
You bring the cup of homebrewed tea to your lips, only to choke at your grandmother's next words.
"I invited him over for dinner!"
You stare at the twinkle in your suddenly menacing grandmother's eyes. In just one simple sentence, she has transformed from the kindly, loving fixture of your youth to yet another cruel, scheming matchmaker. Truly your mother’s maker. Leaving Seoul might have saved you from idol-related phenomena, but clearly not from your family's attempts at grand (and great-grand) children.
Instinct drives you to your feet and you grab your purse, tripping over the rug as you rush to the door.
"I have to go," you call over your shoulder, uncaring of the baffled expression on your grandma's face.
"But you just got here?" she says in distressed confusion, and your stomach fills with guilt at the sadness in her voice. "We haven't seen you in so long, dear."
You still, hand on the doorknob and so, so close to freedom and safety. Eventually, you sigh, shoulders slumping as the resolve trickles out of your body.
"Never mind, I'm going to take my stuff upstairs," you say in resignation, grabbing the carry-on still by the door and carting it to the guest room. The wallet feels extra heavy in your purse, and when you're safely within the confines of your room you sit on the bed and pull it out.
You reach behind the ID card in the plastic slot of your wallet and feel the soft, crinkly edges of a fond childhood memory.
You like Pac-man, right?

Hoseok still remembers the smile on your face whenever he gave you the extra candy he would get with his tteok in the park. As well as the thinly hidden devastation on your face the last time he saw you, and you told him your family was leaving for Seoul.
Despite him being older, he had always admired your courage and tenacity, the way you would charge head-first at the things you wanted. Your unwavering support whenever he was feeling down or uncertain. During hard times as a trainee, he would sometimes picture your determined expression and feel an extra spark of energy.
He really isn't sure what to expect, or even if he's in his right mind, coming to dinner to see his long lost… friend? Play-spouse?
Would you even remember him?
The door opens, and Hoseok's heart jumps at the sight of you. The tentative smile on your face fades into an expression of utter shock, and he belatedly remembers exactly who he is.
"Wh–what the–I–" you stammer, looking just as mortified as Hoseok feels. In his ruminations of childhood, he had completely forgotten his present state of being and how it might impact new encounters. "Can I help you?"
"Y-Y/N?" he asks tentatively. To his bafflement, you flinch as if he had screamed at you.
"How do you know my name?" you ask, stepping back with your hand on the door. You look five seconds away from slamming it in his face, and despite his misgivings, Hoseok's heart sinks. For some reason this cold reception feels worse than if you were a saesang.
"I'm… I'm here for dinner?" he says tentatively, proffering the seonmul he brought. The expression on your face is so reluctant that for a moment he takes a whiff of the bag in case the pastries from the most expensive bakery in the area have somehow gone bad.
With a spark of panic, Hoseok wonders if he accidentally went to the wrong address. The house is familiar, and you look similar to the little girl he remembers, but perhaps he's just let his hopes affect his memories. Why else would you look so shaken, other than a strange man showing up out of nowhere?
"But you're… you're not–"
"Y/N, what's taking so long?"
Relief fills him momentarily as your grandmother comes behind you, though it's tempered by the way you haven't relaxed.
"But this is… this isn't…" you stammer, face pale as you look between Hoseok and your grandmother. It hits him that you probably don't remember his real name, as you had been too young to pronounce it correctly when you had first met.
"You used to call me Hoba," he says with a smile, realizing that this is why you must be so confused – you've recognized him as Jung Hoseok of BTS, and thus not your playmate from so many years ago. "It's nice to see you again."
┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈
This cannot be happening.
Not only is the smiling boy from your fondest memories Jung Hoseok of BTS, but he just somehow had a break in his schedule the same weekend you're in Gwangju, and he ran into your grandmother at the supermarket? You left Seoul to get a break from these ridiculous situations and not to end up having dinner with one of your soulmates!
What kind of contrived, unimaginative bullshit is this?
"These are for you," Hoseok tells your grandmother with a formal bow, offering the pretty, pastel pastry box you had refused to accept earlier. She beams approvingly while you pinch yourself. Hard.
Through the pain in your arm, Jung Hoseok is still standing in your entryway, a sunny nightmare you can't wake up from. The old wrapper, once a magical talisman to ward off gloom, is lead weight in your pocket.
"Um," he begins awkwardly, looking bashful. It is not cute. He is not cute. "And this is for you."
He holds out a fuzzy yellow ball you immediately recognize, and you stare at it in shock. Your chest is doing something very funny, like tachycardic arrythmia. Yes. Hilarious.
Hoseok evidently takes your silence as disapproval, and wilts like a flower deprived of light. "Uh, sorry, you probably don't like Pacman anymore…"
"I do," you reply faintly, reaching forward to take his gift. Only to be polite. That's it. Certainly not because his dejection makes your insides roil with guilt. "Thank you."
"Of course," he replies, looking only marginally relieved by your lukewarm response. "Oh! You dropped something."
He dips low to grab something, and to your horror, your wallet is open –
"Wait, is this–"
"I JUST LIKE THE CANDY!" you blurt in a near scream, feeling your entire body light on fire. This would be humiliating in the best of situations, and Jung Hoseok discovering you kept the wrapper from an old candy he had given you, like a sentimental loser, is decidedly NOT the best of situations.
His resulting smile almost blasts you off your feet, and you wonder if overexposure to sunlight can lead to cardiac arrest.
“Y/N-ah,” Jung Hoseok says, tentatively, but with soft affection. It is more devastating than you could have ever imagined. “I missed you too. Have you been well?”

on my knees BEGGING for more price and civilian!reader. i just read it and i can’t stop thinking about all the cute itty bitty interactions- their date, their convos, maybe him meeting her surprisingly scary dog (currently in love thinking about COD men and K9s yknow?).
Like if there’s not a single supporter for this, i’m dead in a ditch somewhere
what it's like dating john price as a civilian.
john price x gn!reader
part 1
more fluff, more domesticity, me being down bad
a/n: KSAHDASDKJ im so glad u love them as much as i do!! hope this does them justice for u <3
-
the date went really well, thankfully. he showed up at your place ready to pick you up with the bouquet of flowers he knew you deserved. call him old-fashioned, but he was adamant on making sure you didn't have to lift a finger for anything.
hell, he even asked you why you were standing out there in the cold by yourself, saying, "i could have come to your door so you didn't have to freeze all the way out here, sweetheart!"
he held out his hand for you to take as he guided you down the stairs, opened your side of the door for the car, and always walked with you on the side closest to the street.
the movie was a cute action comedy. it was even funnier with john because he'd sometimes pipe up at the action sequences talking about how unrealistic some scenes were.
when you told john that the main character's actor, a built, older-looking man, was used to be your celebrity crush in high school, he couldn't help but let a chuckle rumble in his throat and ask, "got a type then, love?"
"yeah, probably do," you admitted shamelessly.
the dinner was just as nice as the movie: he took you out to a nice restaurant and hung onto every word you spoke. likewise, you couldn't take your eyes off him whenever he told you stories about him and his boys.
he wouldn't tell you stories about him doing his job, mostly because he didn't want to disturb you with what he's had to do. he did, however, happily tell you stories about the ridiculous things he's seen his task force get up to.
"they sound like a handful," you said warmly, "you sure they're not your kids?"
"no, but they certainly sound like it," he leaned just a little bit closer to hear you better over the chatter of the restaurant.
"i get that. i've got a handful at home, too." you paused to take a sip of your drink. "a little puppy."
"really? what's its name?"
when he takes you back home, he wordlessly walks you back to your door.
"would you like to meet beau, john?" you ask, hand hovering over the door you unlocked.
he opens his mouth to speak but gets interrupted by the sound of scratching and a dog panting on the other side of the door.
"well, only if he's okay with meeting me."
when you open the door, john is surprised to see a full-grown rottweiler launching at him at full speed. for a second, he saw his life flashing before his eyes before he realized the wagging of beau's tail.
"oh my god, i'm so sorry!" you call out immediately, "he's usually more polite around strangers. beau- beau get down!"
john only laughs at your panic and took your dog's friendliness as a sign to pet him. "'s alright, love. i trust you enough to know you wouldn't put me in harm's way."
he takes in beau's stature. from the looks of his larger-than-average size, he might be a guard dog for you. or maybe you just wanted company and decided to hone in on his scariness and bulk by adding that spiked collar.
"so, a puppy, huh?" he points outed humorously, locking eyes with you after realizing that your canine was, in fact, fully grown.
"hey, he's still a puppy to me!" you interject, kneeling down beside john's crouched figure to also show the rottweiler some affection.
"i see," he nods thoughtfully, turning his attention back to beau. "you're just as gorgeous as your owner, huh?"
your face is on fire again. "you flatter me, john."
"how does the saying go? it's not flattery if it's true?" he stands up much to the disappointment of beau and to take a step closer to you.
"you're too kind."
"jus' trying to treat you like how you deserve."
it's like he's trying to light you aflame on purpose. your embarrassment grows so much you have to cover the smile on your face with your hand. once your face has cooled down, you take a deep breath and let your hand fall down back to your side.
"thank you for tonight," you say quietly. "i had a really good time."
"glad to hear," he replies. "'m also happy to see beau likes me, too."
"well, we both have that in common, i guess."
"oh, who's doing the flattery, now?" john says playfully, his hands on his hips as you laugh softly at him.
"still you!" you insist.
"hm. maybe next time we can figure it out, yeah?" he proposes, a hopeful glint in his eye.
"next time? you already ready for a second date, price?"
oh, he was ready for more, but he didn't think you were ready to hear that.
"unless you're not," he tells you slowly, afraid of pressuring you into saying yes already.
sensing his worry, you reassure him with, "how could i not be?"
he relaxes at your admission and leans forward to give you a kiss on the cheek. "i've got your number. next week sound fine to you?"
"of course. whatever you like, soldier," you nodded, the lingering feeling of his lips on your cheek leaving a tingling sensation. if you were just a bit more confident, you would have kissed him then and there.
"i'll see you then, love."
he bends down to give beau a well-deserved goodbye pet before turning to leave, looking you in the eyes one last time before leaving for home.
