His character trope/role is simply "the asshole." He's fun because he says what everyone else is too scared to say!

When I was originally planning the story, I imagined him to be like a teenage Rick Sanchez from Rick and Morty.

He is used to being the smartest one in the room, but has enough street smarts to not get egotistical when someone is smarter than him. This makes him hard to manipulate.

He will always make the practical choice, the choice that will get him to where he needs to go. You cannot rely upon him to make the ethical or good choice.

Devin doesn't believe in good or bad, just self-preservation. He has never had a real family, and is wary of emotional bonds because if he cares about people, then that makes it so much harder to do what he needs to to survive.
