"ORTHUR" and "mahtin" give off the same vibes to me and it's funny. like if your name is jo(h)n you're contractually obligated to say your (boy)friend's name a little silly
mabel "i was tricked and got trapped in a bubble of my own escapism fantasy because i couldn't bear to face growing up without my brother" pines 🤝 martin "i got tired of being a pawn and was casted into The Lonely in my attempt to save the only important person in my life left" blackwood
Alright I'm gonna try my hand at explaining a couple tmagp theories I got hanging around in my head
First, the Archivist isn't Jon, at least not fully. I think in mag 200 when all the fears were implied to have moved on to another world/dimension/universe/whatever, and (seemingly) took Jon and Martin (and quite possibly Jonah Magnus) along with them, the Eye part of Jon split off from him, Steven Universe style if you will. I think the reason it's one of the least human externals we've seen so far is because it took Jon's human-ness with it (something something about Jon being inextricably linked to the Eye bc he kinda sorta helped it win the last time around).
Which brings me to my second theory..
I don't think the fears are the same at all in tmagp compared to tma. BUT I think the Eye might be the same, maybe even the only surviving from the fears' last iteration in tma (bc it won the last time around maybe the Archivist wasn't subject to the same change). I think when they shoved off to a different world, all the fears, except for the Archivist, changed in some way. I feel in tmagp they aren't operating on the same rules as they were in tma, one main factor has changed, they aren't feeding specifically on fear. I think they're feeding on desire and obsession. Many of the episodes we've seen in tmagp so far deal with a want of some kind that goes too far, a few cases that come to mind are Ink5oul (wanted fame), the painter lady that fucked herself up (wanted to be beautiful/perfect) and the scientist guy that made some dude's skull explode (desire for knowledge, maybe related to whatever the Eye is now). And I think it just makes sense for Johnny to flip the fear thing on its head for this series to change things up, if so, good on him and Alex bc that's a fucking genius way of exploring the same ideas but in a different vein. And if not, still good on him, Alex, the rusty quill team, and the guest writers because this series is awesome so far
Anyway those are my thoughts, I'd love to hear what others think! :)
edit: also sorry that some of this theory-dump is worded weirdly, I typed this up kinda late at night so my brain was not up to proper working capacity lol
Keep thinking about an animatic to Mother Mother's 'Arms Tonite' that starts off sappy and bittersweet, with martin and jon waking up in some picturesque field Somewhere Else, and they sit up and look at each other as the lyrics go on and they realize they are, indeed, Somewhere Else, and theres a shot of martin looking at jon in a lightly dazed/surprised expression, then a shot of jon mirroring him before cracking a smile, and the camera backs up for a wide shot of them standing in that field, and to the tune of "dont you think its kinda cute" martin starts cartoonishly shaking jon by the throat, jons yells quiet in the distance+behind the music
eury you will be thrilled to know the tma(gp) interest is still in full swing. i cannot be saved
that being said, what fear would claim you? how? why? would you let it? or would you be Normal like a totally Regular person who isn't obsessed with a horror podcast
STOP STOP IM SO HAPPY <3333
i am also. in the. obssessionf .it is not going well
yea, i'd totally be norm-
*gets attacked by truth serum*
it would totally be the lonely. there's just something about being alone that - i don't know how to explain it. when i was younger, i grew up in the town my family had always lived in.
it's a...weird town. despite being in the literal crack ass of the middle east, always followed by war and hunger, our town had...parks. and swimming pools. and a community centre that was filled with people at any given moment.
i mean, don't get me wrong, i love it there. but when we shifted to the uk, and then to cali, it justr. it became kind of apparent how slightly Off my town was. my bestfriend was from there too, and we shifted together.
it's always been me and him. always. and something about his absence now - it marks me. i went back home for his funeral, and it...i just kept getting reminded of the description for the forsaken.
we're christians, so he had an open-casket funeral. after i delivered the eulogy, i kindf of? fainted? if thats the right word for it. i had the same sensation i usually do when im lucid dreaming. then i had a Nightmare.
all in all, loneliness. the town's always been...separate from the world. separate from me. separate from itself, even. and now i don't have him, what do i do with this? where do i put my hands?
also if we were actually living in the tmagp universe, i would 100% be a servant of the one alone.
headcanon/au where once jon starts reading ANYTHING, not just statements, he can't stop. when jon and martin arrive Somewhere Else, it doesn't go away. on roadtrips, jon has to let martin drive and not look outside too much or end up reading every road sign around them out loud. if he picks up a book, martin has to forcibly close it and take it from him to prevent him from reading the whole thing in one sitting. he gets a text from martin in the middle of work and sneaks a look at it, forgetting himself for a second. "i miss you baby crying face emoji heart emoji" he says in a deadpan voice to the customer waiting at his desk.
[VD: A Magnus Archives animation done in orange and teal titled "Pusryčiai" (meaning: "breakfast"). Mellow music plays as Martin cracks two eggs into a frying pan. He turns away to throw the shells while the pan sizzles, and when he returns with a spatula, a "boom" sound effect plays as Martin recoils with comic disgust.
The egg yolks have been replaced by human eyeballs. Martin stares at them for a moment. He then pokes at the egg with the spatula, producing a squelching sound, and one of the eyes blinks with another gross wet sound. Martin goes from disgusted to comically sad and disappointed, and he fades away before the setting does. The video ends on the words "darė Skaistė" (meaning: made by Skaistė) and a quick shot of an eyeball. End VD]
ty @princess-of-purple-prose for the description, i edited it a bit too.
