fascinated by the dynamic between house and his...old friend
#house md#house season 2#house 2x23#'if he'd been a woman i would've married him'#very normal thing for a straight man to say UNPROMPTED#house admits to wilson that he slept with crandall's girlfriend back in the day#and house's defensiveness and need to help the guy is framed as being mostly due to house's guilt#and it is. but all the same. The Dynamic.#and the way house describes his reason for sleeping with crandalls gf#(him wanting to break them up because he didn't think she was good enough for him)#it just feels awfully similar to house's feelings about wilson's wives#it's JUST INTERESTING#op

So I'm currently in Season 3 of Sg1 and I have been hit with another difference between Sg1 and Atlantis.
The SGC is a job. Atlantis is home.
Don't get me wrong, the sg1 team is pack bonded and absolutely feral about each other. They are family. They are friends. They are also coworkers. They commute to the sgc. They have houses and apartments and lives outside of the stargate program. (Well, some of them do.) They get paid, go on vacations, and get benefits. In the end, this is a job. A job you love, with people you would die for, at a place that could be a second home, but a job.
Atlantis is a home first and a job second. They live there. They fall asleep to the sound of waves lapping against the piers of Atlantis. They go for runs in the catwalks. There's a chess club, a mensa chapter, an outdoors club, they go fishing and play volleyball together. They go for dates in the cafeteria, have Atlantis movie nights, and meet up for breakfast. They're a tight knit community.
The SGC is also a military base and it shows, it's barren and impersonal, there are a few exceptions to this, like Daniel having a picture of Sha're on his desk, but for the most part there's little to no personalization. Even the lighting is often very sterile and military. Again, there's exceptions, like the often warm and yellow lighting used in Daniel's office, but the hallways are all extremely sterile. (There's something to be said for the way that Daniel is most often the one breaking up the uniform and military vibes of the base, but that's another post)
Atlantis, on the other hand, is heavily personalized. They hang posters on their walls, they have golf clubs, art supplies, and remote control cars. There's dirty clothes on the floor of their quarters, a mini fridge tucked into the corner, and books left open on their beds. There's something so familiar and comfortable about Atlantis. A sense of belonging that doesn't come across as much as in Sg1.
Honestly, I think it comes back to how militarized the SGC is and how civilian Atlantis is. The vibe is less found family military heroes and more Atlantis is a home to the lost and the broken.
#I love found family in all it's forms#Please don't think I'm bashing sg1 at all#It's just interesting#I'm also obsessed with the way that Atlantis is a place of belonging to those that don't belong anywhere else#stargate sg 1#stargate#stargate atlantis#john sheppard#sga#stargate sg1#sg1#stargate fandom#daniel jackson#rodney mckay#jack o'neill#teal’c#ronon dex#samantha carter#teyla emmagan

As much as Saw and Luthen are definitely different characters, they also fulfill a VERY similar role within the narratives and in the universe of Star Wars. They're both the grizzled old rebel who's given up so much of themselves to fight the Empire that, in some ways, they've become the Empire. They've had to twist themselves into someone they hate because they believe it's the only way to take out their enemy. They're technically on the same side as the rebellion and clearly have been affiliated with the rebellion in the past, but have ended up at odds with the main rebel alliance by the time of Rogue One. They've been at this for pretty much the entirety of the Empire's reign and neither of them live long enough to see the fruits of their labors but both play a vital part in the beginning of its end. They also both end up with a young girl they have to take in and care for at some point who they have a very complex toxic relationships with and who has to kill them/leave them to die.
I don't know, it's just interesting that they're SUCH similar narratives with such similar places within the context of the greater story.
#star wars#andor#star wars andor#andor spoilers#andor s2 spoilers#luthen rael#saw gerrera#i get that luthen is meant to be cassian's spy mentor who is the one who trains him how to be a spy and saboteur and all#something that saw theoretically would not be able to do and clearly cassian can't have a real relationship with saw#but it's just v funny that so many of saw's own traits and narrative beats were just straight up given to luthen too#i feel like part of what andor was saying is that luthen is responsible for creating saw too#except that we know saw has been doing rebel shit since the clone war#so i'm not really sure that that argument would hold a lot of water#i dunno#it's just interesting

introducing Pierce's father and making him this horrible racist person actually puts Pierce's character into a wildly different light. like, Pierce has always been a super racist character. if you're not white, he knows 10+ slurs for you and has used at least 4 of them in the last week. but Cornelius. Cornelius is racist to everyone. he's got slurs locked and loaded for Finnish people. Pierce grew up with this hyper-racist as a father and then he unlearnt 70% of it, which is. fascinating. and impressive, in a very pathetic way
#not as big a jerk as he could've been award granted#it's just interesting#for no reason#he died working on that last 30%#pierce hawthorne#community nbc#nuclear war speaks

Pardon my lateness, but I was only today years old when I realized that Rosh HaShanah is directly related to the Arabic term for the New Year, "رأس السّنة" ("ra's al-sana", or "ras e'sene" in Lebanese dialect), which literally translates to "the head of the year" (yes, as in the literal head).
#raya reflects#arabic#hebrew#semitic languages#man i love finding root connections between my native tongue and its sister#it's just interesting#obviously i remembered that time my mom (and another lebanese chick) took a hebrew course in cambridge#and utterly annoyed the prof with their constant remarks on similarities between arabic and hebrew#i also knew about how yom kippur = 'يوم كبير' ('yowm kabir') meaning 'big/great day'

More fucked up evil men should act as aroace representation methinks
#this can be about whatever#but this is a post about alastor from hazbin hotel#he's such an evil lil guy#and to my knowledge the only aroace viziepop character#it's interesting that he's explicitly ace#it both adds nothing to his character and adds everything to his character#cause he is a shippable character but him being in an actual relationship makes no narrative sense#it's just interesting#alastor#hazbin alastor#hazbin hotel

I need y'all to know for the record that I am NOT having a pjo phase. This madness extends to none of the rest of the franchise, it's just about Jason Grace and will end when I finally say everything I have to say about Jason Grace. I am possibly the first person in history this has happened to.
#i was going up the stairs and tripped over a step that wasn't there#since then I've been studying that gap with every instrument known to man#it's just INTERESTING#it's an interesting conundrum! there's something wrong with him! he's not A Person he's A Role!!! what the fuck!!!#the jasoning#jason grace#ook txt#ook meta#pjo hoo toa

I think it's telling that, being in a 100% male academic training (Engineer in on-board electronics systems), my brother took longer than his classmates to find an internship outside of the country because, contrary to them, he had "scruples" and refused to go for the easiest/most obvious option: working for a weapon manufacturer.
#i tried to translate the name of his degree the best i could lol#it's just interesting#worth mentionning#rambling into the void#radblr#men vs women#yadda yadda war is good for business. technological progress. etc.

have one of those "THK lives" AUs and insert a character who is super upset with them because the bugs they cared about died to the infection THK was supposed to stop for good
#sky rambles#thinking out loud#this like me @ me situation but will I ever get to explore this dynamic?#idk man live is tiresome lol#it's just interesting#because I feel like THK would be torn whether they should feel responsible or not#in the same time this upset bug is mostly blaming them because their hopes were put into their success of stopping the infection#but they didn't come through. and now THK is alive but their loved ones aren't#*life is tiresome#i can't words today my brain is fried from waiting room noises

was his plan to be cute forever
#the way he started like. playing The Role of Adult Man in certain ways#tbh this is about the cutesy little eyeroll in that interview again#because i just rewatched part of Thriller and 'you and i to cuddle close together' he does ANOTHER cutesy little eyeroll on that line#reminds me of Cosmo in Singin in the Rain. with that dummy and also when Kathy kisses his cheek#like#over the top blushing cutesiness#that was the only kind of romance he would show all the way til... Bad?#it's just interesting#i feel like he was so settled into his role as a child and teen IDOL. when he reached adulthood i feel like there was a part of him#that was like. Oh shit they expect me to do Romantic Man stuff now#bc let's think about a teen idol for a sec. it's not that they're not sexualized or objectified at all (and i'm talking about boys here)#but there IS i think an unspoken line that you don't cross. people are allowed to say he's cute or handsome or popular with girls#if you're a teen fan you can say he's sexy#but you don't expect a teen idol to PERFORM romance or anything too Heavy to do with it#michael was comfortable in that#and i think he didn't see that it would change.... i think he thought it was a Him thing not an Age thing ykwim?#you know how you feel a certain way and you expect everyone to know it. not realizing that you're just another persin to everyone else#i think michael was walking around at 20 like Obviously I Am A Child. having been a professional child for 15 years by then!!!!#that quote where he was saying why he didn't wanna do talk shows n stuff: 'what am i gonna talk about. i have no life. all i do is work'#!!!!!#i really think that was true of him since he was 10 years old#people think about work-life balance but when you're a child it's already so unusual and wrong that you're working that it takes over#everything#and in his case he was way overworked and his particular job involved travel and fame. so. how do you even start to escape that#ok. stream of consciousness rambling

Was wondering yesterday if Peeta's parents roles were switched--so if Mr. Mellark were the one calling Peeta names and hitting him and Mrs. Mellark was nice and soft-spoken--how people's opinions of them would change.
#just...mr. mellark was probably abused by his wife too#if we had a mother in his role with a husband like mrs. mellark everyone would be screaming she was being abused too#but instead people insist that mr. mellark should have like beat up his wife#or at least assume he did nothing when we have no evidence or clue of how he reacted to the abuse either#he wasn't there during the bread scene--it was only peeta and mrs. mellark#it's just interesting#i think about the mellark household probably too much#and what laws/practices there are for dv in d12
