Smiling Scugs

Me and my friend, Miles, played a Rainworld co-op campaign [vaguely] based off Smiling Friends. I played as Charlie, and Miles as Pim. These are a few of the doodles I drew for it just for the sake of it.

We found three pups (two represented as homonculi in the last image), which were named Jason, Smormu, and Zongo. I was the one usually carrying them because I have no lag on my own computer, but realistically, Charlie would probably want nothing to do with them, let’s be honest.

Charlie was made into Gourm purely because he strikes me as the physically stronger character. He also gets winded in a few scenes in the show, so that I thought was also fitting. I did not make him that because he was fat, I will be angry if I’m accused otherwise. Pim, however, I felt fit rivulet purely because of how hyper and fast-moving he is. The giant googly eyes probably didn’t help… Some people like to headcanon him as an amphibian, so I suppose it fits with that stuff too.

This was a dramatic recreation of something that actually happened when me and my friend played. I wanted to imagine it like the characters, they’re in this world with rules they have yet to learn, forms they’re not used to, all that jazz. This took like three hours, I have no clue how.

Ignore the black squares… I couldn’t figure out how to fill the space. The reason most of the text is digital because everyone tells me my handwriting is hard to read.

... to round out the top 5, we have ICIP in 4th place and Mic Mac finishing up in 5th.

these were all based on live performances. we had a scorecard of three categories, each marked 0-20 per category (20 points being max score for a category).

the categories were: danceability, vocals and stage presence.

it was a super fun night, and i'd like to thank everyone who came to join, whether you scored or not. your presence was the most important and made it possible. boycotting together is definitely a beautiful thing.

this year however i still feel an ironic sadness and bitter disappointment of the inherent strange reality that i created a boycott event centred around a person who continues to associate themselves with a contest allowing such a country to be platformed and glorified. (a contest which drove him into the ground mind u that he vowed he couldn't return to). i can't ignore how käärijä is allowing himself to be used as a tool for the ebu to draw in audiences.

and ofc he is likely getting great bag for this appearance, by letting the ebu use him as a tool for their gain. as they allow a country to succeed and reap success as it slaughters women and children and wipes out generations of palestinians while the west smiles and bathes in glitter and 'dabbing' (jfc).

i needed to say this, as it has rubbed me up the wrong way and played on in the back of my mind.

unless käärijä miraculously pulls his finger out his ass and produces more content (there isn't much professionally filmed content out there,) there will unlikely be this event next year.

however as i said, boycotting TOGETHER is so valuable. this is why i still found it important to create some kind of event, though it came with more challenges this year.

i understand this is kind of a break year for him, just as a fan i hope we can expect better collabs and better music. bc eurodab is not that. it's a thoughtless cash grab jake paul dab song that dances on the graves of those suffering.

when the world is scary, we shouldn't live in ignorance and 'dab' - we should come together, talk to each other, lean on each other and do small but radical actions of positive change in order to help make the world a little less scary.

the New Jersey Devils Off-Season (according to me, T) - part one, the 24-25 team

disclaimer: these are my opinions, takes, thoughts, ideas. I am in no way an expert in hockey, I just think about it a lot and talk about it a lot. I will more likely than not say something you probably don't like or agree with about your blorbo, so just a warning.

first, free agency.

Restricted Free Agents: Cody Glass, Nolan Foote, Luke Hughes, Isaac Poulter

Thoughts:

the plan is to sign LHughes, obviously. pls, do not ask me for how much or for how long. ideally, we sign him for under nine million for like eight years or something, but truly who knows what the contract will end up looking like. just sign the Hughes boy, quickly. I don't want a bridge contract, want something long term.

end the Foote experiment, now.

I'm assuming we're signing Poulter. I mean why wouldn't we?

I would like us to keep Glass, but I genuinely do not know what's going to happen there.

Unrestricted Free Agents: Justin Dowling, Curtis Lazar, Daniel Sprong, Nathan Bastian, Brian Dumoulin, Jake Allen, Max Willman, Samuel Laberge, Dennis Cholowski, Tory Dello, Marc McLaughlin

Thoughts:

knowing now what Lazar's season was actually like behind the scenes, I think if he's willing to take a very team friendly contract, I wouldn't mind re-signing him. good fourth line depth, potential additional center depth.

Dowling, Sprong, Cholowski can go fuckity bye for all I care.

I genuinely don't know enough about Willman, Laberge, Dello, and McLaughlin to give any type of informed opinion, but I assume they will be Utica men, so do what you gotta do I guess.

I am of two minds about Bastian, if I'm being honest. on the one hand, I don't think he's actually as bad as all the haters think he is, on the other hand, given the pending investigation of a sexual assault case and it being a team he was on, maybe just cut him loose now. Bastian is a solid penalty killer, and we saw that when he's on a line with an actual identity (the MEAT line, for example) he does deliver, but I'd say if he does come back I wouldn't be the angriest person in the world, but if he doesn't come back I also wouldn't be the angriest person in the world.

Devils want to make something work with Dumoulin and I would not be mad about it. especially if it means he is playing instead of Dillon. the issue is we should not be overpaying to keep Dumoulin and there are absolutely other teams out there who will give him some big money. be fucking smart, Fitz.

Thoughts:

don't think the first two categories of players are even going to be talked about or looked at, so I'm not even gonna pay that any mind

the major priority is getting the fuck rid of Palat, and good news! teams want him! not only do teams want him, but they want him without us having to retain! pls fucking take him. we need that cap space to either sign Luke or to go free agent shopping or to pay someone in a trade.

the Macdermid contract is bury-able, but I hate it and I hate what it stands for. make it go away.

Dillon isn't actually going to be traded this off season, future off seasons is a different story, but he's probably not going anywhere at all. however, he is our worst defenseman, and he should be playing third pair minutes next season and if we sign Dumoulin, Dumoulin should absolutely be getting more starts than him, but also we're paying him four million, and you're not gonna healthy scratch the dude you're paying four million for are you. I will say, I do really appreciate his fighty-fighty. but like the rest of it is...no thank you.

for Mercer and Haula, I think I'd be fine if they stayed and fine if they didn't. I'm not wholly on the trade them train, but I'm also not on the we have to keep them train. just chilling. will judge the trade as objectively as possible if it happens. and if there's no trade, I will be ready to feel an expansive set of emotions towards Haula (starting with hate) and forgive Mercer for almost everything.

Casey is...difficult. he needs another year in the AHL and I'd be upset if we traded him without giving him an actual chance to develop and have time to prove himself. I think at the end of the day it depends on the details of the trade if Casey is involved. honestly, someone should seriously tell Casey to take the transitioning to playing forward thing seriously. it would solve so many of our problems.

this team would be fucking dumb to trade Nemec. yes, I'm very biased, but I'm also very fucking right. you can fight me about this. there is like one trade and only one trade that would be acceptable and that isn't happening this summer anyway, so, Nemec stays.

Hamilton. genuinely, don't think he's going anywhere. I think if Kovacevic wasn't missing the beginning of the season and most likely missing at least a few months of the season, we would be having a different conversation. I do not believe Hamilton will finish his contract in New Jersey, but I don't think the trade happens this summer. Our blue line is too precarious at the moment given the injuries (Kovacevic, LHughes, Dillon) to be thinking of getting rid of Hamilton. plus, we need puck moving defensemen and that is one of Hamilton's stronger skillsets. but we are getting closer to end of the Hamilton era of the Devils. and we absolutely need a healthy season out of Hamilton next season.

I hate how my Kikaider brain rot has actually worsened since watching the sequels because I thought it would put it at bay since it’s been putting me off from doing other stuff but I just keep ROTATING all the stuff about 01 funnily enough.

01 is just so *weird* because it’s not like I’m having a relationship where I hate it and I think it ruined the original but then become obsessed with wanting to fix it-I have had rewrite ideas but it would come with their own problems nor are they really striking me-no, I don’t actually feel super negative towards it, even if it’s objectively so flawed for multilayered reasons but I keep hyperfixating on WHY it’s so flawed because the OG show and even the crossover are not nearly as flawed in comparison. They do have their issues but they serve their purpose.

The original show having a recap ep was a odd decision and unfortunately the ending feels rushed/unsatisfying due to they had to make a up a ending since they couldn’t do 01s yet, but also as a self contained story it’s still incredibly solid and works for 12/13 episodes. Where as crossover despite being a single episode works for its runtime since it ties perfectly back to both the OG show and 01 + gives Jiro a ending that’s the closest thing to closure he’ll ever get, it’s biggest flaw is just the Inazuman characters are something you won’t have full context on if you don’t read the manga because they sadly didn’t get a anime-which yes I am also reading the manga, didn’t get far but I like what I have read-but that also does not actually effect the Kikaider side of the crossover.

But then you have 01 which absolutely FAILS at using the 4 episodes it’s given in almost every way: It doesn’t tie back to the original despite the originals ending being the way it was for 01, with plot holes being caused from it and it’s tonally different as it leans more on action than story which is not in its favor as it takes up most of its short runtime leading to the new characters and the story not being as developed as the original despite having incredibly interesting plot points, just the execution is not there.

It’s the one Kikaider show that needed to be longer, either the episodes needed a 45 minute runtime or it needed to be 6-7 episodes which is at least half the length of the original if it also couldn’t get the 12/13 episodes treatment. It just baffles me how 01 was given such little time especially as a OVA yet was still made likely due to the first show doing decently, yet they didn’t use their time wisely at all to make it actually tie to the original.

But I still can’t find myself to actually hate it or deem it as bad because maybe I appreciate the fact it existed just so the crossover could happen and we could also see the 01 characters animated, or just again, it doesn’t ruin the original so you could honestly pretend it doesn’t exist even if I don’t because I like the crossover and it’s important there. It’s something I don’t feel strongly for and I will always just advise the first show to people, since it being so flawed for so many reasons that’s it’s baffling at least makes it interesting to think about rather than boring or god awful.

I do kind of hope a series gives us a Megatron and Optimus with a “strangers to respected enemies/rivals to potentially more (at least in the fanfics)” sort of dynamic

Because I feel like that doesn’t really happen, at least not to my knowledge. I feel like if Megatron has a respect for Optimus, it’s usually due to their long, shared history, not something that develops over the course of the series

And I know some people say that’s what happens in TFA, but no, it really doesn’t. The two never reach the “respect” part, with Optimus hating Megatron for being an evil villain, and Megatron seeing him as a nuisance at best and never bothering to learn his name, only calling him it once like 2 minutes after being told it earlier in the fight, which I think in context doesn’t really count for much

I just feel like it’d be neat to properly explore, especially since I’m realizing we seem to have it fairly consistently be that they were “old friends” for a while now, let’s shake it up a little
