just finished playing portal revolution. I like evil science lady and her rabid vacuum cleaner
#my art#portal revolution#very well put together portal mod#puts in on the shelf with stories mel of good portal mods i have played that connect gaps in the story or add to it in some way#i think i shall put this in the portal tag as well. apologies if it does not belong there#portal#portal 2#this mod was well written and well voice acted. only thing i didnt like so much was the ending. them being sent to the moon was funnny tho#i mean the after credits scene made me feel better but at first i was just like. huh? so they just all die in the end?#it was a bit fast paced like riiiight at the end. the very very end#also while im talking ive noticed a lot of portal mods struggle with 'boss fights' and making them puzzles but still fast paced.#which is fair because its hard to make fast paced puzzles while still being challenging while still being easy etc etc#the puzzles in the last chamber were a bit confusing to figure out at first and i got stuck a lot#which led me to just standing there trying to figure out where to go at times which slowed down the pacing#the rest of the puzzles were great tho. maybe a bit easy but still great#also i spent like 5 hours in the game! so far! thats a good 5 hours of extra portal content! woohoo!#art of duck

finished the folk of air series and debating if i want to read the stolen heir books 😅 i loved oak in the original series, but idk if i want to read more... the series had ups and downs for me so im to too attached??? i enjoyed it over all and maybe it wasn't my cup of tea in totality. tho, i probably just need to digest it more! ☺️
#tho! there are still some great things i loved about it#and the last book was more my style!#and cardens novella was fun to read#i think its just what i was diff from reading and its taking me a while to get used to that#im used to more romance#i knew it was sloooow burn and they didnt get together until the last book#so i wasnt going in expecting love at first sight#but i wish there was more...#more angst between them#more hints at romance#i feel the kiss scene came out of nowhere????#like ofc i enjoyed it but it just felt random... where was the build up?#maybe more internal dialogue or even some cognitive dissonance with wanting carden but still hating him#and i know we get some of that but it only feels like after the kiss????#maybe im misremembering but thats what i felt in that moment#i do like theyre not your typical goody couple#as cardens story told#hes a wicked tongued king and jude a murderous queen#i didnt mean to write so much in the tags LMAO oops#my thoughts#folk of the air

i'll be like "i'm a god of writing" and then an hour passes after i post or submit something and i'll be like "i'm so dumb there's so much i could've done better if only i'd waited a bit and looked at it with fresh eyes i would've noticed how much it sucks & what i could've improved that looks so much like first draft material there's so many revisions i could make why i am i so impulsive and overconfident" and then i'll start writing something else and be like "i'm a god of writing" again
#the woes of having both a superiority and inferiority complex#also i think this might be similar to how i only get performance anxiety AFTER the performance is done. i'm always like this#i'll be super chill before a play & during it but then the play ends and i'm like “fuck they must've hated my acting” or whatever#or i'll be super chill while singing but then it ends and i go “man i sung way too quietly & i think i was out of pitch i suck”#and once again as soon as i go back to doing it again i go “wow im super great at this im amazing”#on related news i applied to a zine with 2 out of 3 snippets being ones i started writing as soon as i decided i was actually gonna apply#& i decided i wanted to apply 5hrs before i sent the application#so uh. i wrote ~2.7k words within 5 hrs & didnt give myself time to edit it bc im a dumbass w/ no concept of time#(“the applications close jan 2nd so i need to get this done asap” dude there's like a week til then why the rush- oh youve already sent it)#tbf they're more like 2nd drafts? one is a scene i'd kind of written b4 but w/ the intent of no one seeing it so i completely rewrote it#& the other is a very VERY loose eng translation of like the first quarter of one of my one-shots. when u compare its more of a rewrite rly#but still i'm looking at them now & im getting 2nd thoughts i shouldve waited eughhh#if you're a mod of that zine pls look away hahahaha.....#unless you liked those last 2 snippets & r impressed with the fact they were rushed. if so then yea im a god of writing ik ik#but to be fr tho i actually think snippet 2 is pretty strong but i think the 3rd one is... very weak. there's not much cohesion#like i def could've added more connective tissue. i was just a bit over half the wc limit so that was def smth i couldve done. ugh

tell me why im back in full hellcheer brainrot. maybe it’s the fact that the 3rd anniversary of the ship’s inception just passed? idk i was just going through the saved ship tags i have on ao3 and reading new fics for ships i havent touched in a while and got down the hellcheer rabbit hole again. its nice to see a pairing i consider one of my favorite ships (aka any ship where i have saved the tag on ao3) get relatively popular (as in, breaking a thousand fics. they’re close to 4k fics now). since a lot of my fave ships hover around 200-500 fics on average but obviously I still have a bunch that are like 60 fics total or below. but yeah their dynamic just tickles my brain in the right way
#hellcheer is Eddie and Chrissy from s4 of stranger things btw#they’re the first couple ive seriously shipped for stranger things#tho i would consider myself a Nancy/jonathan shipper too but only casually#the amount of fics is definitely due to the sheer popularity of the show#but (SPOILER) its very impressive considering they only had two scenes together and both characters are canonically dead lol#but those scenes just left an impression on so many people and the actors and creators were like ‘oh yeah their chemistry is crazy’#idk if I’ll ever write anything for them since there’s enough fics to basically cover any and all ideas I would have had to write anyway lol#crest thoughts

Yeah actually I'm a little annoyed by that vampire video it's not even that wrong it just doesn't make sense to me...(Person who has read numerous academic publications on vampires for fun).
#.txt#okay i said for fun and it WAS for fun#but i also did a huge presentation on the evolution of depiction of vampires in media#and what fear they represented over time#the reason why all the first ones were so sexy is bc people were panicking over sex#especially women having sex#and yeah theres the assault narrative#but its more about moral purity and not giving into ruinous temptation#and that changes as sex becomes less scary#tho of course the fun paradox is that whenever you write a morality play you also get to express said sexuality#thats why its weirdly easy to read carmilla as not totally against lesbians#i think its bc its from lauras perspective? you get the sense she would have been happy if the men hadnt intervened#but maybe thats the only way i can read it now thanks to carmen maria machado's edition..#theres a convincing paper from the 90s that even dracula was a reactionary response to oscar wilde's trial and conviction#at least partly. bc stoker sent love letters to walt whitman..lol...#anyway as time passes you get kind vampires representing contagious disease#i am legend. the hunger#a lot of vampire fear is also like racism/xenophobia#fear of invaders#thats also present in dracula but other stuff too#there was another big thing but i cant remember rn because i got 3 hours of sleep and dont have access to my notes#but even this concept of the fears they represent evolving over time isnt like. a hard and fast rule#especially with how much we remake the old stuff over and over#*kind of vampires representing disease. they arent kind. lol#near dark has multiple things going on but the blood transfusion scene also treats it like a disease#v
