I might as well share this, here's a new design for Hades that I've been cooking up!!! I'm so happy with this one genuinely, I've been having trouble with him for so long but this truly feels like the exact vibe I wanted to convey with him

iwonder which is better ,starting art at an early age with little to no knowledge on how to learn stuff or learning to make art once youre old enough to know why youre making it in the first place. kids usually seem to wanna do whatever they want & adults seem like they tend to be more goal oriented but its been the other way around for me so idk. its difficult to unlearn bad habits from childhood and also difficult to try something new as an adult. maybe ppl have a messed up view on art either way and maybe it makes no difference
#tagtag#idfk its kinda late and im thinking in circles#im gonna slleep honkshooo#some people think starting to learn something when youre young makes you a master at it#but children dont usualy know what theyre doing and why#or atleast dont fully comprehend it#my own views on art have changed significantly since i was a kid and im still pretty young#the first decade of my art journey or whatever shows little progress and occasionally i wonder how different it woulda been if that first#decade started just after it originally ended#just in this last year ive made more progress than ever before#what were all those other years of trying to be a good artist for when i couldve just been having fun drawing what i enjoy#ok none of this makes sense as a whole cuz i didnt think of a clear point to make im just rambling abt whatever comes to mind#this isnt to say kids shouldnt draw until theyre older so they can learn more efficientlt#this whole thing is mostly cuz i regret taking art so seriously as a kid

#linktober#linktober 2024#the legend of zelda#wind waker#ocarina of time#loz#loz ww#loz oot#link#josh art tag#had a lot of fun with this one despite how annoying it was to draw#oot link was at a difficult angle and i also just could not shade this for the life of me. restarted the shading like 3 times#i think im reaching that point in the cycle i typically go thru with my artstylr where ive grown tired of my shading style#to the point that i forget how to do it and it never quite looks right#so if my next post features changes to my artstyle thats why lol#but i enjoyed making this despite that cuz i like the ideas behind it!#i normally wouldve redesigned ww!link's outfit but i purposefully drew it accurately#to highlight how its more like a costume. cuz thats kinda what it was! and its modeled after the hero of times clothes#but is pretty innacurate. which i think is cool.. shows how much time has passed and how the view of the hero of time has warped#so i also purposefully made oot link wearing my redesigned outfit for him (even if you cant see much of it at this angle)#to further emphasize how ww!link's outfit is not only essentially a costume but is also quite innacurate#i like having ww!link ditch the costume for something else to show how he stops being some kid in oot!link's shadow#and grows into a true hero of his own#hence my ww!link redesign where i put him back in the lobster shirt. but i do keep some green and something similar to the hat#to have him fit in with the other links while still being unique#look i have a lot of feelings about ww!link and oot!link#i wish zelda would do more stuff like this... i think having oot relate to wind waker makes the story more interesting#and makes ww!link more interesting! cuz he cant be the hero of time they want. but he does become the real hero they need#the oot ww tp trio is so good... and they all work great as standalone games but their connections do really add something

Patalliro! is fascinating to me because of stuff like this. It's unapologetically gay - even within its anime which aired during primetime hours in 1982 - in a way that many later BL manga would never be, like the ones from the early 2000s which would never dare to call their characters actual homosexuals. Patalliro has actually aged quite well in this regard, there's something comforting about how campy it is.
#i still dont really understand how they got away with this kind of thing honestly#female VAs i get that - but first m/m kiss in an anime in episode THREE?????#theres also the maraich/thomas episode where they are *Both* voiced by women....advanced yuri#patalliro#i love how bancorans gender expression is pretty much explicitly to attract only bishounen#you blushed - so you must not be a girl#etc#i also love how joyful it all is#theres never anything sad or tragic about being gay - only that bancoran is forced to kill the bishounen spies/assassins/etc#when bancoran finds out that gay sex feels good after demian; in the manga he is elated. its basically a positive thing#he awakens to his true power...lol#also notable is that while bishounen youth is glorified maraich is 18#this means it portrays being gay as an adult as normal; not a phase relegated to nostalgic adolescent periods of time#according to the NYT japan's psychiatric body called homosexuality a mental illness until 1995#im NOT going to say patalliro changed that or anything lmao but its just significant to me that banmara get to live their lives happily#even raise children together in the manga....???#especially contrasting that with kaze to ki no uta and other manga of the time (no shade intended)#yaoi#<- for tagging purposes#obviously it also got away with a lot by being a gag manga. but still!#months later edit: want to say im not intending to moralize BL manga from the 2000s either. like gen. no hate on them.#as a gay person i just appreciate when characters who act gay are considered gay textually#and its kind of disheartening how gay-as-identity was treated as something incredulous in those manga a lot of the time#even the mere suggestion of attraction to men as a whole and not just the other male lead...yknow#this post is meant to praise patalliro for being unique in its approach to gay content compared to other titles#ive enjoyed plenty of 2000s yaoi titles despite their shortcomings lol#joseiposting#shoujo

i realized i have IMs here that i haven't responded to in months and while it petrifies me because it made me realize how exhausted i must've been to genuinely forget about those, i intend to at least respond to all of them within the week. the heat is still kicking my ass and making my brain slower than usual so the activity for actual writing might just stay the same for another week or two. at least, until the sun stops trying to blast my brain on a daily basis. until then, maybe i'll be watching one piece :pensive:

#the preaching.#my long tome best friend and i were in kpop together and that was much more her thing than mine#and every timr we hung she would tell me about her issues and problems she would have with people in that community#and it was quite draining#and it was a hobby that really consumed her life to the point where its really the only thing she did#she would go to concerts instead of going to her finals 😭#and it was really. like effecting how much i enjoyed the hobby and the music because i would just think of her#idk. she was not a very good friend for me as an adult and its so stupid that im pretty excited to get into kpop but on my own terms yk
