Akihiro finds an old newspaper clipping
AGHHHH I LOVE HER MY FAVORITE MARVEL COMICS CHARACTER THAT HAS ONLY APPEARED ON PANEL LIKE THREE TIMES
Also, Itsu is devastatingly underdeveloped and we know literally nothing about her so I gave her a surname. I like to think that once Akihiro finds out more about his mother he takes on her name

It’s hellfire-fueled, claw-slashing action in the Mighty Marvel Manner as HELLVERINE blazes a new path across the Marvel Universe! The Demon Bagra-ghul possessed Wolverine, turning him into a killing machine… but Logan is no stranger to caging the beast within his soul, and the demon learned his heroic ways. Now it’s resurrected Akihiro, and the two must learn to live as one — the HELLVERINE! But they can’t do it alone — enter: Doctor Strange!

adding onto my tags ive always envisioned the Itsu we've seen as a fantasy version of her, nothing like the real product. When we see her through Logan's pov she's always beautiful, wearing pink, docile, with not much of a personality. Definitely orientalism at play here but I love to think of it as Logan's idealized memories of a relationship from many decades ago that he believes he ruined. The idea of Itsu being this pretty, perfect wife who he failed and cast him out feels very much like he is misremembering and idealizing her as part of his narrative that he himself always ruins what's good in his life, the people who he loves being perfect and not flawed in his head.
And when Charles linked his mind with Akihiro to show him the truth about his Itsu's death, he likely passed this down to him. Akihiro therefore thinks of Itsu as this fantasy of a perfect mother that he never got to have. He doesn't know what she was like, he doesn't know what she really looks like or dresssed like either probably. All he knows is that she was beautiful and Romulus took her away from him before he was even born.
Therefore when he buries this random woman dressed in pink, he probably sees his mother in her. Another woman killed who he never got to meet, he buries her with the care that he would have given Itsu.
I'm really hoping this is foreshadowing of what will come when he goes to Japan.

What are your Itsu headcanons? I enjoy your thoughts on these comics stuff :)
I have so many! I actually have two drafts of Itsu fics, so I've been thinking about her a lot.
(1) Logan likes strong, assertive women. Look at Jean, Ororo, Yukio, Mariko*, Melita, Tyger Tyger, etc. So I don't think Itsu is really just a damsel type woman. I would imagine that she really would have a headstrong personality. There's this earlier post from yesterday about how Logan imagines Itsu in hindsight in a certain way, but how much of that is like from decades of distance? How much of it is colored by grief? How much of it is like filled in with other thoughts, especially with a mind as fractured and complicated as Logans?
(2) In Jasmine Falls, Bando says that all of the villagers in the town are former ninjas who have decided to live a life of peace. So does that mean that she's a kunoichi and revoked that life intentionally? Is she the daughter of a kunoichi?
(3) If she is a kunoichi, I think it'd be interesting to tie her style of fighting to Akihiro's pheromone powers. Like if she dealt with poisons and elixirs, and that somehow informs Daken's powers.
(4) I have this headcannon that as much as Logan is a japanophile, Itsu is an anglophile. I just wonder the type of woman who would go for the one white guy in the village and the kind of looks that she'd have because of the weird customs around missegination in 1950s Japan. I like the idea of them bonding over how much they love each other's country and why they don't like where they come from nearly as much.
(5) It's so weird to me that Jasmine Falls is like... this idyllic 1800s Japan when they're in a post World War II 1950s Japan that's really barreling toward globalization. If Itsu is an anglophile and Logan is obsessed with Japanese culture, I think the two of them would visit town and cities often. Itsu to look at the new buildings being built in European styles. Logan to look at just Japanese things. And they'd just walk around admiring things.
(6) This has no logical basis other than I think that Itsu and Logan would have read Osamu Tezuka's works as they were being published. >_>;; That's solely just wish fulfillment.
(7) Itsu and Logan would have just left to live in Canada if it didn't work out in Jasmine Falls. It would have been fine if Logan didn't pass the test, but she died.
(8) Logan loses a part of his memory and his love for Itsu when he has Muramasa cut out a part of his soul to make the Muramasa blade. Because as much as his rage is in that blade, that rage is informed by his grief, which was informed by his deep love. I think it also goes back to #1 where he flattens the idea of Itsu to just a beautiful woman, where there could be so much more to her.
*Mariko is arguably the most passive of Logan's love interests, but she like is a noble woman, trying to beat out the yakuza, and she's just dainty doing it. And with the Scarlet Samurai revision, she does kick butt, actually! It's also weird to me that passivity is a quality in Logan's romantic interests especially when they're Asian (Mariko, Atusko, but def not Yukio).

New fic, baby!
As excited as I am for upcoming Hellverine series, I got a feeling we’re going to be experiencing some serious angst before things start getting better (I mean, Aki’s supposed to be too afraid of himself to seek out his family????)
So to cope, as you do, I created a fluffy little backstory fic to help brace myself, lol.
I’m hoping we get some long overdue proper Itsu characterization in this series, but I’m also tired of waiting and did some myself. It’s mostly Logan and Itsu’s married life – how they lived together, preparing for the baby, dealing with insecurities as expecting parents, etc. Akihiro does also directly appear briefly in the epilogue.
(Also side note: I did some rereading and good lord, that timeline is even more of a hot mess than I remember. This fic is kinda canon compliant, but I also did what I want because not even the canon makes any sense, lol. So maybe it also falls under a fix-it, IDK)
Anyway, if you're interested, I hope you enjoy and thank you for taking the time to read!
