week 1: introduction

Background

Her full name is Verónica Itzel Fontana Aguilar, she's a mexican-colombian girl. Her parents arrived at El Encanto when they were kids with the group of people in which Pedro and Alma were. Her father's family, the Fontanas, are horsemen from Sinaloa, and fled Mexico during the Porfiriato. Her mother is from Yucatan, and unfortunately, was orphaned shortly before arriving in town, and she and her younger sister were adopted by the Fontana family. They work raising horses and selling them. Their business is well established in the town, and they're one of the most important families in there. Anyways, they're not friends with the Madrigals, and only interact with them whenever they need something. Itzel is the eldest of two children in the Fontana-Aguilar family.

Despite having a normal childhood, Itzel was a lonely child. Her father worked all day in the stables, so he didn't spend time with her; her mother only worked until noon 'cause she's a teacher, but she just couldn't stand her own child, and sent her to her room to keep her away from her. Itzel was a restless and energetic girl, so this affected her a lot, making her look outside her family circle for the attention that she wasn't given at home.

Personality

Itzel is a kind person and has good feelings, but she's very disconnected from her own emotions and her environment, which makes her quite impulsive. Even so, the emotions Itzel feels are very intense, and is a hopeless romantic. She collapses easily, and crying is her way of channeling her anger, happiness, or sadness. She's also a theater kid, and tends to unconsciously create her own problems by believing herself to be the protagonist of her own soap opera/novela. She really likes to grab the spotlight, and knows she's pretty, so she takes advantage of this to get what she wants. Sometimes this attitude of hers gets her into trouble.

Her savior complex and her lack of judgment when in love always make her get into toxic relationships.

Occupation

Since she was a child, Itzel showed special interest in art and knew she definitely wanted to be an artist. When she expressed her desire of devoting her life to art, her parents objected, arguing that a woman couldn't choose that occupation. However, they didn't stop her either, she did what she wanted, and fulfilled her dream anyway. She is the town muralist, and makes oil paintings as well. Her parents began to support her when they saw that she could actually make a living from it.

Much appreciated Itzel! The feeling is definitely reciprocated. And instead of sending this message to all the inboxes, I'd also like to thank all my mutuals for interacting with me and my own portrayal of Hanzo/Scorpion. It means A WORLD to me, and I'm grateful and privileged to have developed him so much thanks to them. Without such interactions, relationships, and chemistries I have built with them over the months and even years, I would have not enjoyed writing as much as I do now!!

I finished the first season of Daddies on Request (Papás por encargo) today and I honestly loved it so much.

California is actually so sweet she needs to be protected.

I love how much each dad loved California and how different each of their approaches are with her. Miguel is definitely the stern loving dad with a soft side, Diego is the more sensitive and emotional dad and Morgan is the fun and excited dad but all three are so protective of her and each have their more softer side when interacting with her.

I’m going to be honest and obviously no offence to anyone who does like her but I’m not that bothered by Itzel and only going by the last episode I’m not a fan of the trope where a parent leaves their child with someone who becomes their new parent and then at the end the child ends up going with their original parent even though Itzel had understandable reasons I don’t really care much for her character and I’d much prefer California stay with Miguel, Diego and Morgan full time because for most of her life they’re all she’s known like obviously Itzel could be part of her life like three men and a baby style but I prefer her dynamic with her dads.

Under cut is basically Itzel tier list based on my preferences, what i see working and tied to some muses i got on this blog.

*First three sections are pretty explanatory. Outside of the ship i have with Allie's Cyno (Orphiicheartd, any other Cyno(s) interactions are platonic by default.

*Although that i, by preference alone, have romantic ships i see working, they can very well be turned into friendships. This isn't some mandatory invitation to ship romantically, i just vibe with these pairs.

*I write several muses alone in the Friends spot, namely my Razor, that's why he's there.

*The last column is also self explanatory, Itzel's got their backs, Collei especially, that's the squad's little sister u-u.

*Anyone not present are just with no real opinions but it can always change. They'd probably be in Friends by default.

In the past couple of weeks, we have seen two relatively new takes on Wickham, and I have to say that Daniel Cleaver takes the cake for being the most annoying of the two as well as Jane Austen’s original character. I found this video on TikTok, which I would consider being a ��thirst trap”. The main purpose of the video is to demonstrate how attractive Hugh Grant is as Daniel Cleaver in Bridget Jones’s Diary. I found the words “come back to me please” to be a little funny considering that I would not let this walking red flag near me with a ten-foot pole. Now, that might be a little dramatic, but I honestly think he might be the worst of the Wickhams. Instead of ever hiding how toxic of a person he is, the reader can understand immediately what his intentions are with Bridget, which would be along the lines of "fuckwittage". Now, the character is attractive on the surface level (a theme of the book). However, Bridget does not appear to see through his physical attributes to what lies beneath very quickly and gives him multiple chances. I guess this is to be expected considering that Bridget herself is very obsessed with surface-level things like weight, calories consumed, and looks. However, I do not think it would have taken her much to consider what Cleaver was really after because their first interactions were secretive and would very much be considered sexual harassment and an abuse of power from her boss. Austen’s Wickham was at least able to look like a good guy for a little while before showing his true colors, and even the audiobook showed more depth to Wickham’s character, which led him to be forgiven by those closest to him. Bridget Jones’s Diary is supposed to be a modern adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, with some relatability directed towards a modern, young adult audience. I found that there were still a few relatable parts to Bridget despite the years since it was written; however, it was hard to get to know more of her character under all the worrying about looks and the obsessive bettering of herself. Furthermore, I found it to be hard to ever find Cleaver attractive considering he was quite clear that he was willing to string Bridget along for his selfish wants. If he wasn’t played by Hugh Grant and instead by someone who wasn’t so conventionally attractive, I think that most people would be forced to look deeper into his character and immediately be turned off by his callousness and, at the least, ethically ambiguous, behavior.

For those of you who don’t know, here’s the catch about mixed drinks: the lack of alcoholic taste can often make them deceiving. It doesn’t feel like you are drinking alcohol. But this, makes them especially dangerous for people who claim to dislike the way alcohol burns their throat.

Itzel had already lost count of how many of those seemingly harmless, colorful beverages she had managed to taste. But it was surely starting to have an effect on her

The brunette swayed to the electronic beat, ignoring the dizziness in her mind. Lights and flashes of all colours drew an interesting pattern on her olive skin. Her big brown eyes remained closed for a good portion of the time. But as she reopened them, she saw the other in the distance, sitting at a corner. She couldn’t tell whether they had been looking at her or not, but there was something about them that made the stranger stand out. And so, letting her curiosity take over, Itzel approached them.

“Hey, why aren’t you dancing?” She asked, raising her voice to be heard. Her signature toothy grin made it to her features, and she gently took the other’s hand. “C'mon, dance with me !” she said with an audible glint of enthusiasm “I promise I won’t step on your feet!” the turkish exclaimed, as she carefully dragged the other to the dancefloor
