Stonehenge Redux

In addition to visiting Sam Hill’s Maryhill Museum of Art, I took in his replica of Stonehenge nearby. Hill wanted to build a monument for servicemen from Klickitat County who had died in the Great War, and this is the form it took, high on a hill overlooking the Columbia River.

The man himself is entombed on the hillside just below where I took the second picture. I had mistakenly thought Sam Hill to be James HIll’s son, and he was part of the Empire Builder’s family, but by marriage—to Mary Hill, and thus the name of this place.

Lunch Hour - James Hill (1962)

Bored, boring married long face attempts to embark on a lunch time affair with pretty art school beatnik chick - who's decided to work in a wallpaper company for some reason - but their every tryst is thwarted comedically in some way.

Then they finally book a hotel room like some cheap hookers and dissapear into fantasies about their married with kids cover story rather than getting jiggy. 

It's a kind of fun film, with music that sounds exactly like Mike Leigh's Life is Sweet so has that same kind of whimsical feel if you're after a bit of kitchen-sink that doesn't get heavy. Umm, that's about it really.
