Lost in Starlight
Tumblr media
Movies watched in 2025
Lost in Starlight (2025, South Korea)
Director: Han Ji Won
Writers: Kang Hyun Joo and Han Ji Won
Mini-review:
I think this is the first Korean animated film I've ever seen, and it's definitely a great place to start. The aesthetic and vibe clearly draw a lot of inspiration from Makoto Shinkai's work, but having adult characters as leads gives it a somewhat more mature feel. The writing is pretty solid too; although the movie's length is around 90 minutes and things develop pretty fast, the central relationship never feels rushed, and it earns the emotional wallop of the final act. Also, Kim Tae Ri and Hong Kyung prove to be surprisingly good voice actors. Then there's the beautiful music, which is more than up to the task of playing a key part in the story; I can see myself playing these songs a lot in the coming weeks. So yeah, Lost in Starlight is a worthy animated romance with a dash of science fiction.
P.S. That's one gorgeous poster.

If I had a penny for everytime a guy who played a total scumbag on D.P. co-stared in the same project with Lee Jae Wook, whose character is very obviously attracted to LJW's character and who also finds LJW really attractive in real life...
I would have two pennys.
Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.

When My Love Blooms
Tumblr media
I must admit this story is one of those where I don't connect fully with the characters.
Yoon Ji Soo is a divorced woman with a son in a boarding school (sponsored through scholarship). Her ex-husband is vigilant, looking for a moment she falls and he can fight for full custody of their son. She lost her job and keeps taking odd jobs to make ends meet. And her son hides how he is bullied at school to protect his mother.
Han Jae Hyun just stepped out of prison after 4 years paying for his father-in-law's white collar crimes. He returns to a loveless marriage where his wife has taken a lover in a desperate move to feel human connection. His son is at a boarding school, bullying his way through middle school.
What do Yoon Ji Soo and Han Jae Hyun have in common? Their past. And we learn about their story through flashbacks that take us back to the early 90s when college students protested and fought for justice. But Han Jae Hyun has changed and their current situations are not ideal.
I feel for the young Yoon Ji Soo and Han Jae Hyun. Their innocent love, their beliefs and fights for justice. . . That future that crumbled to pieces when her father imposed his ambition over the happiness of his child. . . Their youthful story was beautiful, but the people they became were so full of grayish spots, their decisions, their relationships with their children. . . It's hard for me to fully sympathize with them whole heartedly. They are realistic characters, imperfect, people that make decisions based on their selfish desires, sometimes forgetting their children and how their actions affect them.
It was a good series, it wrapped things nicely at the end, but even then, I wasn't completely happy for them. I always felt bad for Lee Young Min because he loved his mother and even when she said she loved him, he always got the short end of the stick. Even at the end, we don't know what happened to him, and I think that this is the main reason why I can't be completely happy for this couple as grownups.
Anyway, is not a bad story. I think it is good because it made me question things. It made those characters feel real, 3-dimentional.

It's so crazy that it's not just Gi Hun but I genuinely cannot imagine ANY Ljj character to be a top. Like none of them. Ja sung, Ray, Hong ki, Lee Han and now that video of him getting dommed by the woman in Asako in Ruby shoes, none of these mfs are tops. The only one I can think of being a top is his housemaid character 💀
the way that is so correct and accurate 🙏
also, don't forget my jedi mom sol... one of the biggest omegas in jj's character catalogue
i've never seen "the housemaid" and i don't plan to, but i think even he would bend over quick if he had someone hold him by the scruff.... idk he gives off i-have-to-pretend-to-be-a-top-when-i'm-actually-a-huge-sub-bottom-bitch vibes
and the reason all these characters are bottom is bc of ljj, idc what anyone says... they have nothing in common except for him so 😩
this is me whenever is see a jj character (except ray, my nonbinary murder diva):

Daily Dose of Sunshine
Tumblr media
TV Shows/Dramas watched in 2023
Daily Dose of Sunshine (2023, South Korea)
Directors: Lee Jae Kyu & Kim Nam Su
Writers: Lee Nam Gyu, Oh Bo Hyun & Kim Da Hee (based on the webtoon by Lee Ra Ha)
Mini-review:
When I heard this drama was coming out, I got a bit worried, since k-dramas don't have the best track record when it comes to handling this topic. Thankfully, this show's team mostly pulled it off. Sure, it falls into stereotypes from time to time, but its focus is always on empathy, acceptance and tolerance. It really tries to make the viewer understand how hard and undeservedly misunderstood mental illnesses are. For better or worse, that also means the drama doesn't shy away from showing the darkest parts of these illnesses, so please be very careful if this topic is triggering for you, cause there are a lot of hard-to-watch scenes. In terms of acting, the entire cast is great, especially the actors playing the patients, and Park Bo Young. In fact, this might arguably be her career's crowning achievement. The one thing I didn't really like were the romantic parts. I just didn't care for any of the romances, and the show would've been better off without them. Anyway, Daily Dose of Sunshine surprised me by handling a complex topic in a much more humane and hopeful way that I expected.
