Hello, I just found your VV1 au and I love it!!!!! Anyway, V2 was the one that built them into VV1 correct? Well, how would react either of them react in the event of one of them being disconnected. By that I mean, one of them being disconnected from the body or the other unit or whatever.

V2 was the one who combined them yes! Made to be a machine of peace, it actually had the gentle dexterity needed for a literal surgery.

V1 also had plenty of issues with movement anyway due to being previously taken appart. Aside just-never being made to be able of gentleness in the first place.

BUT-! As to what would happen- it depends. If it’s during battle. Let’s say Gabriel stabs it through the head and gets to only ONE of the brains and kills one.

W1 (or what remains) would stop getting answers to it’s constant requests to move and it’d kind of flop limply down. The remaining brain CAN control the body on it’s own, but it’d be too busy trying to get an answer from the other one for a considerable bit. Each request for the other to respond would get more and more desperate until it falls into distress and starts screaming.

It really won’t be too hard to finish off, because the initial shock of it’s own head being silent would leave it vulnerable for a while.

OH BUT- something fun I also thought about. Putting on our labcoats for a moment and doing wacky experiments on this thang.

If you were to somehow put W1 to sleep and then seperate the two brains into two bodies. You can put them in view of each other and have them wake up and the scene would be kind of silly.

The initial distress is there, but seeing the other would end up in them confusedly waddling up to each other and *almost immediately* begin tearing each other to pices and parts (with care) so they can reassemble.

Like wow inconvinient I hate this. I want to be myself.

Hey! You like spartan ops? I like spartan ops! What do you think of *modding* spartan ops? (Which I might possibly could do)

I'm curious what you would do with modding because I know there's a general halo 4 mod gameplay update mod. I love 4 but it is clunky and the sprint makes me feel like piloting a spartan is like driving an oldsmobile on ice.

If you balanced the enemy count vs player count, or polished up the points where voice lines trigger, or even added some of the unused lines it'd be fun, but I'm not a modder. I'm curious what you were thinking. SpOps was made in crunch and it shows in the reused assets, bugs, and mission set ups, so I wonder what's there to mod and not break lol.

Are you looking to mod for better balance or shits and giggles like adding a counter for every time Miller warns you about phantoms?

What are your favorite games? BESIDES HALF LIFE.

Full disclosure: I am not a well-rounded gamer at all. I got into video games considerably later than most of my peers and due to a combination of brain wiring and other life commitments, I've only ever played a handful of non-Valve games and I'm perfectly content with that.

That said, highly recommend Disco Elysium! It's the only game I've played besides Half Life (and Portal, for a couple years around the release of Portal 2) that has sparked an enduring interest/obsession. It's a phenomenal game that deserves all the accolades it's received and then some.

That last ask got me thinking, I wonder how tails would deal with running into someone from west side.

The way I've structured the story, they actually spend quite a bit of time on West Side Island. It's where I imagine most of AoStH happening. Once you get to "Mass Transit Trouble" I think they're on the continents instead of the island, but that means they did form a lot of good memories on West Side in general and met a few nice people along the way.

Still, they don't exactly make a habit of visiting.

And they definitely steered clear of Emerald Hill Zone once they went back for the Tornado; after that, they never went back there again. I think the only thing that would draw either of them back would be if Eggman was directly attacking it.

As much as the people there sucked, I don't think either of them would leave them to that kind of fate.

Tails would want to act tough, like it didn't bother him. Like what they did to him didn't matter because, look. He's traveling the world with Sonic the Hedgehog because of how they treated him. He's a world-class mechanic and scientist. He has several workshops scattered across Mobius. He gets to go on adventures. He's surrounded by love (whether he thinks he deserves it or not). He has the best family.

But he wouldn't get too close. He'd hang back. Keep his tails tucked in and his senses alert. A few people stand out to him, and he'd feel the phantom pain shooting up his tails. He'd subconsciously be looking for the quickest getaways. And he'd be ashamed - embarrassed - because he's handled so much worse in his life than a couple of bullies.

But then he sees how Sonic would act - if they were there together - and takes note of the way he holds himself at arms' length from these people. Speaks in short, clipped sentences. No jokes, no easy smiles. He has no patience for them as they thank the two of them and he doesn't stick around for even a celebratory chili dog.

But Tails does. He doesn't like to remember much about Emerald Hill Zone, but he remembers a receipt Sonic still carries on him. So Tails goes to the diner by himself and orders a dozen chili dogs to-go. If the owner recognizes him, he doesn't say. But Tails recognizes him, remembers the lock he put on the dumpster out back to keep Tails from rummaging for scraps in the night. Tails might've learned to pick locks because of it.

Tails still pays him, leaves a tip in the jar.

He takes the chili dogs to the beach, far from the village, where they left the Tornado. Tails finds Sonic there, tense and tapping his foot in the sand as he stares at the ocean with an unreadable expression. Sonic doesn't hold grudges, but he's holding onto something.

Tails sits on the wing of the Tornado and Sonic turns at the creak of the metal. Tails pats the spot next to him. They sit together, overlooking the ocean, and each take a chili dog.

"None of this would've happened if they'd been decent people," Tails says as they eat, and he's not talking about the bullying.

And Sonic knows he's right.

"I wouldn't want to do it differently, you know," Tails continues and hands Sonic the receipt. "Of all the potential outcomes that could've played out, I'm glad it was this one."

And Sonic knows he agrees, even if he quietly wishes their present didn't rely on Tails's suffering in the past.

Tails knows. He knows Sonic doesn't dwell on the past, but when it comes to the people he cares about, if he could take their pain and shoulder it for them, he would. There are things about himself Tails wishes he didn't still carry with him from Emerald Hill Zone. He wishes he could've left them in a cave tucked away deep in the jungle.

But then he gets an arm tossed around his shoulders and he doesn’t flinch or run away. Just a steady, comforting presence. And maybe he didn't leave the bad things behind all at once and maybe Sonic can't carry them for him, but every day forward lightens the load a little bit more.

And isn't that what living is for?

How about everything in Dramatic for Team Sonic?

Team Sonic - I am presuming you mean the og 3, Sonic Tails and Knuckles?

😨 What do they each fear? Do the other's know?

Well everyone knows Sonic's scared of water. Knuckles totally flicks water on him to piss him off. Tails tries to get him to back off.

And they know Tails is scared of thunderstorms. I think Sonic would be understanding, and Knuckles thinks its reasonable - the lightning storms up on Angel Island are no joke.

Knuckles got away with not letting on that he had any fears for a long long time. Probably until heroes. He does not like ghosts though, and he's in good company. Sonic definitely sticks a sheet on his head to spook them though, because he's a bitch 💙

Other than their obvious fears, I think Sonic gets scared of sleep paralysis, and dreams about his feet getting stuck, so maybe also quicksand getting to him? I think Tails is scared of lots of supernatural things, not just ghosts but also zombies and werewolves. Not so bad he can't do halloween, but he's easily spooked by horror stories. Knuckles is also kinda... well not scared, but on edge in social settings. Gets very riled up about it.

🤕 Have they shared with eachother what hurt them the most? How do they care for eachother?

No! Hell no! We're just cheerful bros, right!

'Do you think about... what happens after we die?'

'More since I died.'

Sonic will not talk about his pain ever, not until it literally becomes a huge problem for everyone else. Tails... is gonna follow in his footsteps, but Sonic was there when he was a hungry little kit with nobody to love him. Knuckles probably would talk about his worst memories. But not like, looking for comfort, more like 'hey here's a fun story - the Master Emerald one time threw me off the island to teach me to fly, so I smacked into the cliff and went unconscious' And they just have to try to unpack that

🏥 How is their health? What do they worry about for eachother?

Knuckles is throwing vegetables at them. Please, eat some fibre. How are you guys going to the toilet? Pls.

Yeah, Sonic eats like dogshit, never gets his teeth checked, just presumes every ache and pain will go away if he ignores it.

Tails is much more curious about these things, I think once he's had a thought he can't let it go. Because of him, Sonic gets his shots and stuff. Knuckles... he worries about their health, but he doesn't really trust medics. He might get his vaccines if Tails can explain it to him well enough. I think mostly they don't worry about eachother's health, they're too busy feeling invincible.

🗣 What can get them to raise their voices?

Excitement. I think Tails gets louder and louder when he's talking about things, and faster and faster. Also if Tails is frustrated and not being understood, same happens. Knuckles shouts defensively, sorta like a scared cat might howl. When he's happy he's quite soft spoken. He's recently picked up the sense to joke around, yelling about things he's not actually mad about only to switch out on people, but only Sonic, Tails and maybe Amy can tell it's a joke.

Sonic does shout, he's not scared to be loud, but he doesn't do it over just anything. He does not like not being heard however. If he's mad at you, and you're not listening, he'll shout. Especially if you're Knuckles. Never if you're Tails.

☣️ What's each of their top toxic trait/ vice? Is it funny or a problem?

Sonic's toxic trait might be burying his feelings. He's sort of getting better, and he is emotionally intelligent, and it's hard to tell if he's doing it out of some sense of duty as a hero, or because it's a habit built from being a natural loner. It makes it hard to be his teammate sometimes.

Knuckles isn't toxic for being naïve, but he is a stubborn arse. He will resist even more if everybody tries to pressure him to change his mind, very non-newtonian contrarion. He gets himself into arguments he doesn't really mean to just because he doesn't like being seen to back down, then can't figure out how to fix it and needs help.

Tails is a bit young to have entrenched toxic traits, but we can already see he will be a workaholic. He's also likely going to be quite competitive, especially as he starts measuring up his achievements next to Sonic's, who he struggles to find fault in. So, I think that could be a problem for them down the line, but for now - no, I'm not calling an 8yo problematic!

My dream team favourite silly guys, why don't I write them more? Oh yeah, because I'm scared I'll never do them justice! I hope this is all okay, and thank you so much for the ask!!!

So I was going through the cutscenes for Sonic Colors, as you do, and wanted your thoughts on some scenes. The first scene is the scene where Sonic and Tails run into Eggman, and he tries to use his mind control beam on sonic, but Tails takes the hit for him, and almost fights sonic.

The other scene is near the end of the game where Sonic and Tails get to the space elevator and Eggman ambushes them. You then get the shot of Sonic's POV where he pushes Tails into the space elevator for his safety,which is justifiably since Tails did take a "bullet" for sonic earlier. The you get the whole sonic and eggman fight, yada yada yada, but during that, Tails is on the space elevator, alone with his thoughts, where his last line to sonic was, "I have to admit I'm a little sacred. I don't think we can beat this guy."

And THEN sonic is really only saved from the explosion by the wisps and when he gets to the ground he really looks out of it.

Sorry if this seems like I'm rambling, but I just have the image in my head of Tails in the space elevator, alone with his thoughts, pushed away by sonic for his safety.

I've been saving this ask because I just wasn't sure with how I wanted to tackle it, but then so much time passed! Sorry about that!

And no need to apologize, I totally get where you're coming from. I think about the scene with Sonic pushing Tails into the space elevator all the time.

I use that scene to fuel Tails's insecurities in the fics leading up to Frontiers, one of the instances he keeps coming back to when he thinks about how Sonic treats his involvement in adventures these days. How he's gone from someone Sonic could count on to help him shut down a space colony, to someone relegated to the sidelines, pushed further and further away with each adventure.

Tails is getting older, he should be allowed to help more not less. But he's also made more mistakes, had more opportunities to let Sonic down as time passes. So he's acting a little more recklessly, putting himself at more risk to prove himself, and getting pushed away again and again and again.

He's not thinking about this from Sonic's perspective. How the stakes have been so much higher. They've gone from fighting the robots of one guy to having to stop literal gods and save entire planets' existences from being wiped out entirely. And Sonic is also seeing the mistakes he's made with time, in a constant push and pull between the physical cost of putting Tails in danger and the emotional cost of not letting him help. And maybe not even being fully aware of it.

Sonic is instinct and action. But over time his instinct has shifted from "Tails will be safe as long as he's with me" to "Tails will not be safe as long as he's with me." Because he's not: he literally just got mind controlled on his watch, and it could've gone a lot worse than it did. Sonic didn't free him, Eggman's mind control serum just ran out before he could really make him do anything. Sonic didn't let Tails out of his sight, and he was still put at risk. Sure, he's not going to dwell on it, but it's still there. It's an experience he's subconsciously storing away and slowly shifting his worldview, little by little.

The moment Tails tells him he's scared, Sonic doesn't think his presence alone is enough. Whereas I think Tails is just seeking reassurance. He wants Sonic to tell him everything will be okay, that they've got this. That there's nothing they can't figure out as long as they're together. That's what he needed to hear. He's a kid, Sonic is his hero and caregiver. He's his secure attachment and he's looking to him for that security.

But Sonic sending him away sends two messages to him: 1) everything will not be okay, but Sonic being Sonic still has to try, or 2) even if it will be okay, Sonic doesn't need Tails's help.

To Tails, Sonic probably never needed his help.

To Sonic, Tails will probably be safer if he's not with him.

From the way I look at their relationship over the years, and if we're looking for some kind of continuity between the games, that's what makes the most sense to me. Miscommunication on both ends. Sonic not hearing that Tails needs reassurance, and Tails not hearing that Sonic can't compromise his physical safety for anything.

What about some stuff about Sonic's past now? I wonder if eggman ever kept any records of what happened on Christmas island, maybe a certain fox would eventually unearth them. Or maybe, Tails see some weird activity coming from that zone and decide to investigate, I mean he does want to go on more solo adventures and sonic originally took down this place when he was the same age sooo. I wonder what sonic would think, his brother adventuring to that place. I wonder what tails reaction would be upon finding that it's not just a scrapyard, but also a graveyard.

Aw, yeah! Sonic's turn!

Eggman actually doesn't know Sonic was on Christmas Island! He rounded up all the mobians living there to use as test subjects, but he used his own system for documenting them once he rounded them up and had them on his airship. As far as he knows, the first time he encountered Sonic was on South Island. As far as he knows, he only lost two of his test subjects before experimentation began…

Tails could potentially unearth the documents on Christmas Island, not knowing it has anything to do with Sonic :) I have plans for his solo adventure fic, plus he still has a lot to do in An Unstoppable Force, so we'll see where it takes him.

I do think, at some point, Sonic wants to make good on the promise he made in Finders Keepers to get everyone's records in a digital database. Tails would be the one he'd trust to do it, so he'd have to explain some of what he knows about the place and why.

Since I actually have future story beats dealing with this, in a way, I can't go into too much detail, but it is fun to think about! Thank you for asking!

This may have already been asked before but, what are your favorite characters to write for? (Besides Sonic and Tails) Are there any characters that you wish you could write better/write more often?

I don't know if I've touched on who I like writing besides Sonic and Tails! I've mentioned before that Eggman is a challenge for me, but other than that, I can't say it's come up.

My favorites are definitely Amy and Knuckles! Once they find their footing in a fic, their interactions are always so fun to include! And Knuckles always surprises me; he's actually very comfortable to write from the perspective of, which I never expect!

Oh, and Chip!! I love writing Chip, he's a joy. An absolute delight 💕

I still wish I could write Eggman better xD I work so hard on his dialogue, I'm constantly trying to hear Mike Pollock in my head as I write. But aside from him, I'd really love an opportunity to try writing Blaze 💜 I think she'd be a fun challenge, but I haven't thought of many ways to incorporate her into stories just yet.

😅 What's a story or scene you've created that you're a smidge embarrassed exists?

I’m better about it now because I’ve been taking opportunities to write scenes like it more when appropriate, but I was a smidge embarrassed by “Where Water Wears Away the Stone” when Sonic and Tails are hugging and bonk heads together at the end. I second-guessed it a lot right after posting, feeling like it was too cheesy or saccharine and just not suited to the characters, but it was how I wanted to end it. I like schmaltz, I like soft moments that feel earned. After everything they went through in that fic, I felt like they deserved hugs and a nuzzle!

But yeah, I get embarrassed sometimes when I make things a little too sappy xD

💥 How do you feel about criticism? 

Depends on the context, but I’m going to take this opportunity to firmly state I’m against unsolicited criticism in all cases. There is no situation, in my mind, where criticism the author did not ask for will not leave them feeling discouraged in some way. Especially for newer writers. It’s not helpful, no matter how good the intention behind it is.

I’ve been in professional writing workshops and have had my work critiqued by my peers where we’re all in the same boat. We’re all trying to improve and we’re not trying to diminish anyone’s hard work. We’re all in the same place of vulnerability because everyone is sharing their work for feedback in this moderated space. We’re also receiving this criticism expecting it for a work-in-progress rather than a finished product. The people in the writing workshop know the story you’re trying to tell, and are trying to help you accomplish that goal.

By the time a fic has been posted, the author is typically not looking for critique. There are unique cases where they do ask for it, but if a writer does not say specifically in their author’s notes, “I would like any feedback - positive and negative - to improve as a writer” then a comment in their inbox that just highlights things they did wrong or that a reader didn’t like is going to be upsetting. It might even keep a newer writer from continuing a fic or trying again because they don’t yet have the experience to know how to parse out what is useful to them and what isn’t. Readers' experiences with the text are valid, their interpretations can vary, but an author’s intent is also important to keep in mind and the author’s intent and the reader’s interpretation might not always line up.

Sorry, I just feel very strongly about this xD I feel like if teen me received unsolicited crit on my fics like what I see today, I’d have stopped writing, so I’d hate for that to happen to anyone just starting out and kill any progress they might’ve made as a writer. AO3 comments just aren’t the place for criticism, especially when proportionally writers tend to get so few positive comments as it is.

If you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all and hit the back button, please and thank you.

But in a mutually agreed upon setting with a beta reader, when I've asked for criticism myself? Love it! Perfectly okay with it when I'm seeking it out to improve something.

🤗 What advice would you give to new fanfic writers that are just getting started?

On the heels of the last question! New writers, it’s okay to ask people not to send you unsolicited crit. I’m sure you’ll get it at some point, so just take a deep breath and step back, remind yourself that you are likely doing this for fun in your free time while you have a job or school or chronic illness or what-have-you affecting you in real life. You’re putting effort into this thing people get to read for free, and while they do have a right to speak their mind, you also have a right not to listen if you’re not in the headspace for it.

If you get feedback that makes you feel bad, do something nice for yourself. Listen to a favorite song, take a relaxing walk, eat a yummy snack. Vent about it to your friends or write a strongly-worded response that you’ll save in your Tumblr drafts and never let see the light of day again. You’re doing your best, you’re learning, you’re here to have a fun time. Don’t let anyone take that from you.

Then write the next fic and keep moving forward 💖
