Hello! Just wanted to ask for a headcannon of Ninjago characters (the one you usually do) x unnaffectionate reader? It's not like they're mean it's just that affection isn't a big part in their life and they usually forget about it. And then one day reader is like 'oh shit maybe this makes my idiot feel bad' so they try to make up for it by being super affectionate for a day and beginning to show subtle signs of affection more regularly?

he’s very affectionate, so he’ll eventually start getting hurt that you don’t return his advances as much

he understands not wanting to do it in public, but in private is where it hurts him

one day, he stops trying and doesn’t seem quite like himself

this is what makes you realize that he’s hurt

after taking some time to think about it, you make it a point to show even a little bit of affection

so, one day when he gets home from a mission, you shyly take his hand in yours before asking him about his mission

he understands how much it means coming from you, and he appreciates the sentiment

he asks you what changed, and you quietly admit that you should have compromised more with him, seeing as how he respects your wish for no pda and apologize

then, you press a soft kiss to his lips and vow to gradually increase the affectionate as you grow more comfortable

jay

jay would be a little more understanding; he gets not wanting to be touched as he experiences this himself sometimes

so he’s certainly more patient with you

but there are times when he starts feeling especially sensitive about it, and it makes him start overthinking

over the course of a few days, he starts gradually acting different

at first, it’s him wondering if he’s just overreacting

but as it progresses, he starts hurting and worrying - did he do something to make you mad? is he just misreading the situation?

eventually, he goes to cole about this; cole suggests that he just ask you

so, jay works up to the courage to and does

this leads to a productive conversation, and you agree to start showing more affection as you feel comfortable with it

desperately wants to show his affection, but quickly gets that it isn’t your thing

initially pushes his hurt away, thinking that maybe you just need time

quietly tries to figure out why you’re not keen on affection, but doesn’t get too far

he tries to ignore it; he’ll take his frustrations out on the punching bag or on enemies

but there comes a point one night where it all comes bubbling up

the two of you are alone after a mission one night, and you’re patching up some of his injuries

cole is exhausted and in pain

he can’t help it - he tears up

he just wants a hug, or for you to hold his hand and stay with him a little longer. he just needs something

but all he gets is a distant expression - one that opens an old wound in his heart. and he can’t hide it any longer, so he breaks down

alarmed, you immediately sit down with him and ask him what’s wrong

so, he softly professes his hurt to you

once he’s done, you apologize and give him a hug, promising that you’ll try to do better for him

you end up staying with him for the rest of the night, holding him until he falls asleep <3

he doesn’t really mind initially - he doesn’t know much about relationships anyway, so for a while it works

but as the relationship progresses, he observes that other couples - both in real life and in pop culture - are more touchy than the two of you are.

he asks you why this is - he’s not necessarily hurt, but he wants to understand why you two aren’t affectionate. it makes him think he might be doing something wrong

after explaining that all couples are different, and that you’re just not a very affectionate person, he understands

the two of you continue to talk about it, and after a while, you decide to try small things together - like holding hands or light hugging as you both feel comfortable

he’s never been in a serious relationship before, so it takes him some time to warm up to the idea

he ends up thinking he’s making a big deal out of nothing, so he doesn’t say anything about how he’s feeling

you notice that something’s off with him when starts becoming more distant

after trying a few different things, you end up just sitting beside him one day and taking his hand, quietly asking him if it was something you did

he admits he isn’t sure why he’s upset, but admits your touch is comforting

as the relationship continues, though, he wonders if it’s something he’s doing

panics and convinces himself it was something he did

terrified that he hurt one of the few people who isn’t afraid of him

vinny ends up calming him down and advises him to open a conversation with you

once the talk does happen, he understands and feels much better when the two of you strike a compromise

jay is the type of boyfriend to go and buy drinks for you while you want at your table playing with your phone. dude will legitimately not let you move at all ever since yall start doing. hes like your knight in shining armor always doing everything for you like ur his princess which you obviously are.

as soon he orders he would come back to you without wasting anytime. he like a little teddy bear who you'd want to cuddle forever. when your order number is called jay would have gone to get before you can even ask him if you should go and get it. even after coming back from getting the drinks or before leaving the cafe, jay would ask if you wanted anything else.

while walking back to your car too he wouldn't let you hold the drinks. the only time he'd let you hold something is when he would open the door for you, unable to hold both drinks and open the car at the same time.

while jay's getting into the car you take a sip of your drink and realize you're not a big fan of your drink as soon as jay would have settled into the car you would ask him with if you can try his drink like "can i try yours?" cutely and he wouldnt mind at all he'd just straight up reply with "you want to try my drink baby? go ahead"

once you try his drink you'd realize that you actually like his drink better so you'd ask him again "yo pookie can we switch please?" dude would legitimately be so unfazed by now with the nicknames you've given him. he would just stare at you for a few second while you smile back him and would end up saying "you're lucky your cute and i love you" and give you a peck and then drive off

It depends on who you write for and where but my CPD oneshots do generally well on AO3.

If you are going to write anything regarding Jay (JayxHailey or JayxReader), it will do very, very well (better than most other things). Same with StellaxKelly. Big ships like that do the best.

Anything else is usually a pretty niche community… I have people who like my Hank VoightxReader, but I know a lot of people in the fandom loathe him. It’s pretty niche outside the big ships, like I said…

It’s really unfortunate if you’re looking for material outside of those ships. (I personally don’t care for Jay and I don’t really care about Stellaride either, so finding content is hard for me, which is why I write my own.)

Plus, if you’re like me and don’t read/write smut, your pickings are even slimmer. 🤷‍♀️ The fandom is alive because I see people complain all the time (lol) but it’s very niche.

Insecurities

A/N: This is from my Wattpad account

Y/N has an abusive mother. she has never met her farther. She gets bullied by a lot of the Vks (villain kids) and gives most of her money for food to other kids in need on the isle of the lost. The only people that don't bully her are Mal, Daughter of Maleficent, Evie, daughter of evil queen, Jay, son of Jaffar, and Carlos, son of Cruella de vil. Y/N never got why they didn't bully her because they were the meanest kids on the isle 'why would they take pity on a girl like me' she always thought.

One day the four kids ask Y/N if she would join their crew. Y/N was surprised but agreed to join the crew. The core four was now the core five. They asked Y/N to join the crew because even though they live in a place where people are bad you were good.

A month after you joined the group all of you started to have feeling for each other and Mal was the first one to say something about it. While the five of you where spray painting a wall in an empty ally way Mal said, "Is it weird that I have feelings for all of you?" Everyone said no except you. Mal and the others were waiting for you to answer. you finally talked as you were fishing your painting. "Well I think that we should just.....ah date each other."  When you finished the spray painted art you back up to admirer it as did the rest of the crew. They where amazed with the painting you did. It was a portrait of all of guys holding hands and smiling. Jay on the far left Evie next to him as Carlos was far right and Mal next to him and then you in the middle of the four of them. "Wow" Mal blurted out "it's just a dream" "or maybe it can be reality. If you guys want it to be." You ask nervously but they all agreed to date and the five of you became partners.

Y/N POV

One day I was heading back to the hide out after giving the last of your money to Dizzy. As I was passing by an ally way someone pulled me in it and shoved me to the wall. "What are you doing with the villain kids still? I thought they told you by now." one of them said "What are you talking about?" "Your useless. Your a brat. Your ugly. I don't know how they pretend to love you." I started to cry knowing that every they said was true "I don't know how they do it either."  I was still crying as they laughed. I saw an opening for me to get out and I darted I ran as fast as I could but the faster I ran the faster the tears came down my face knowing all of it was true. I made it back to the hide out and stopped I didn't go in I just sat on the wall and cried. After my tears slowed down I went up stairs hoping no one was there but Evie and Jay were on the couch like they were waiting for me. "Hey Y/N, What's wrong?" " Nothing I'm fine, Evie." "No your not. Your eyes are red." "Jay, It's raining and it got in my eye. Ok?" "I don't believe that" "I'm fine ok?" I said trying to run off into my room but Jay grabbed my arm which gave me flashbacks of my mom. "Please don't!" I almost yelled thinking of my mom "don't what?" Jay and Evie were so confused but not as confused as Malo and Carlos who Just walked in with food "What happened?" I blinked myself back to realty and took Jay's arm off me "Nothing Carlos. Don't do that Jay." This time I was able to get to my room. When I got there I preictally slammed the door before I jumped on my bed and started silently crying and hugging my pillow thinking of what happened earlier and what my mom did.

EVIE POV

I started to get really worried about Y/N after she yelled at Jay. When she slammed her door I jumped 'cause she's never done that before. "Ok someone tell us what happened." "Y/N came in here and it looked like she was crying so I asked her what was wrong but she blow it off and after Jay said her eye's where red she tried to pass it off as rain and when she tried to go to her room Jay grabbed her arm to stop her and you guys heard the rest." "Should we check on her or let her cool off?" "Let's check on her." "Ok." once we all got in there we saw her curled up hugging a pillow and crying. None of us said anything as we gathered around her and started rubbing different parts of her body. Carlos rubbed her lug, Jay rubbed her hand, Mal rubbed her back and I rubbed her arm. After a little bit she spoke up "I'm sorry Jay. I didn't mean to yell at you.(sniff)" "It's ok...... So do you want to talk about the yelling first or what happened today?"  Carlos slapped Jay's making Y/N laugh "ow" After a little more clients she spoke again "It's just when my mom got angry at me she would grab my arm like that before hurting me..(sniff)..and I pictured her instead of you...(sniff)..I'm sorry."  I didn't know what to say to her I just felt bad. We all shared a look before Jay tried to apologize " I'm-" "Don't be it's not your fault." " Is that what happened today." Mal asked but she didn't want to "No.(sniff)" "While I was running back after giving my money to Dizzy some people pulled me in an ally way and said "Your useless. Your a brat. Your ugly. I don't know how they pretend to love you."  (sniff) and I believed them (sniff) because it's what my mom said to me all the time (sniff) (cries a little more) (sniff) I'm sorry for bringing this on you guys." We all started to cry but I couldn't let her think that we don't care about her. "Hay, look at me" she sat up and put her pillow and knees to her chest while looking at me "You are not any of those things. You are perfect and we are pretending to love you we really do. Don't ever thing the opposite." "promise?" "promise" we all said at the same time and hugged her to death (not really)

It was finally summer and you couldn’t be happier, it was by far your favorite season of the year, always giving you many great memories and an amazing vibe overall.

So that morning when you woke up you did your hair, put on your favorite white dress and some white converse to go with it, grabbed some sunglasses and headed out the door to meet your boyfriend for lunch.

“Hi, Trudy” you said once you were at the front desk.

“(Y/N)! Hi! What brings you here? How can I help you?” she said, she had always been nice with you and it made you feel very special, Jay always telling everyone you were her favorite to make you blush.

“I was wondering, is Jay here?”

“Yeah, he’s upstairs” and turning to her left she yelled at Kim “You, Burgess, go tell Halstead that someone’s looking for him”

“But you just told me that…” she started.

“What are you waiting for?” she said while you mouthed a small “sorry” to Kim.

10 minutes later you had Jay’s hand in yours and you were walking down the street.

“Did I already told you that you look beautiful”

“Hmmm… I think only once or twice now”

“Well, you look beautiful” he said leaving a kiss in your temple.

“Stop it, Jay, you make me blush!” you said a little embarrassed.

“I know” he laughed “Wait a second” he said suddenly running away leaving you confused but it didn’t take him long before he was back with an ice cream cone in each hand.

You knew he had to come back soon but in the hour you had together you made the most of your little improvised date, eating ice cream, sitting under a tree and talking like nothing else mattered, all perfect.

Your school bell rang and you sighed , relived that the break was finally here or you could've sworn you would've fainted in the middle of the class . Jokes aside you were really tired and hungry and dealing with someone's bullshit was not on your to-do list , so you made your way to your locker to put your books away so you can peacefully enjoy your lunch . Opening the locker , there was something in that didn't belong to you . You were gonna throw it out untill you actually noticed what it was . Chocolates . Not any brand but your favourite one . You turned your head around to see if anyone was searching for it or anyone who kept it was still looking your way but to your bad luck you found no one . Maybe someone put it in the wrong locker ?! Well too bad coz they ain't getting it back . You opened it happily and ate it feeling complete bliss , your study stress disappearing and your day was suddenly really better . You went to the cafe where your friends were waiting for you and mentally thanked God and the person who the chocolate actually belonged to . Watching you eat that chocolate from the camera , jay could only smile with heart eyes . Yes he kept those . No he wasn't a student there so he had to make some settings but after all putting a chocolate in someone's locker isn't rocket science for a mafia who kills and runs a goddamn big buisness .

He saw you with your sister the very first time . She works in his company . Well the 'cover' he has to hide his mafia identity to police and agents . You came to give her the lunch she forgot and the moment you both made eye contact , he was attracted to you . He knew he wanted you and park jay always gets what he wants so he got all your information the next day seemingly not minding the obsession at first sight . He wanted to gift you something to make him known to you . So he decided to go with your favourite chocolate. You found more chocolates next day and then eventually everyday . You always found a note which had something written in it and it always ended with "see you soon love , J~" . You didn't pay much mind to it thinking the person will step up one day . Yes you were curious but curiosity kills the cat and you certainly don't wanna experience that . Jay was losing his patience and he decided its time to get you . He'll get you and you both will live together in his house . So today when you were reading the note while chomping on the chocolate you were surprised to see that the person finally wanted to make himself known and wanted to meet you . The only strange part was that the meeting place was near a really expensive house and rumours said it mainly belonged to some mafia . You were scared of those assholes but how could you say no ?! Not when you eat the chocolates everyday . So after the break you bunked your classes and went to the meeting spot .

There he was , the only person seen . He turned and started coming towards you but you couldn't move , fuck he indeed was the mafia . Your legs seemed to move as you stumbled back but he caught you , pulling you close "are you scared love? Don't be , I won't hurt you " he whispered while toying with your hair "who are you and wh-what do you want? " you stupidly asked . Well you didn't do anything to him so why was he doing all this ?? You heard him chuckle softly while he stared at you lovingly "I'm sure you know me and I'm here to get you love . It's finally time we both can be together." You were confused "wait what ?" Suddenly your vision started to blur "what th-the fuck is happening " you said in a low voice while trying to stand straight but failing miserably , falling into his arms . "I knew this would be needed , you'll come with me the hard way but that's alright . Atleast the chocolates did thier job . I expect you to obey me from now on though . I am your boyfriend and you only need me . I'll provide you with everything , just don't try to run or trust me it won't be pretty ." Oh so it was the fucking chocolate !! but what the heck was he talking about? And where the fuck is he taking you ? What's all this bullshit ? It was one month that you were living with him and it was hell . You were basically a hostage since you were kidnapped and this damn mafia didn't seem one bit bothered that you don't like it here . You couldn't escape tho , not when jay always seemed to put your parents on gunpoint . He sure would kill them if he couldn't punish you . If only you wouldn't have eaten those stupid chocolates and you wouldn't have came there , your life would've been so much better .

a/n: gosh that one jay vlog lives in my head rent free, is this basically the thoughts/scenarios i had while watching? probably but you didn't hear that from me

there's something about watching your boyfriend cook that was just oh so satisfying. the rich aroma from whatever he was cooking and scene painted in front of you of a focused jay with a dark apron tied around his waist, there was truly nothing better. you watched from the island counter, chin resting in your hand and you observed him dreamily. maybe it was the way he pushed his hair from his face, how he rolled up his sleeves or how he just expertly cooked lunch for the two of you.

you don't even remember what he mentioned what he was cooking, thoughts of how handsome your boyfriend were flooding your mind. you could totally spend hours just watching him busy in the kitchen, and you don't think he would mind.

"(y/n), everything alright?" he asks, snapping you out of your thoughts as he met your eyes. you cough in embarrassment, "yes darling, just admiring my handsome boyfriend while he's so focused on the food his preparing don't mind me" you reply with a smile, jay letting out a soft laugh, winking at you before continuing what he was doing moments before.

you try to help him, offering to wash the vegetables or clean the dishes after but are quickly whisked away and sat back where you were. your pout quickly vanishes as he smiles warmly at you, "you can just sit down, we can worry about dishes after" he adds, the timer reading less than five minutes. he continues to talk with you about anything, you sharing stories from the weekend before and him just listening to your voice.

he finally finishes, setting the plate in front of you. he quickly leaves a kiss on your forehead as he goes to sit beside you on the bar stools, rolling his eyes in embarrassment as you gasp at the food. he shrugs off your compliments, excusing it as being a simple dish. you roll your own eyes, jay was always looking and learning new recipes and sharing with your the results. he always appreciated any opinions you had, and suggestions you could add so he can make the recipe a bit more personalized for you.

"so when do i get to cook with the famous chef park?" you tease, standing beside him at the sink as you both start to wash the dishes. it was a bit of a struggle to start, since you both wanted to do it and let the other rest. though you both compromised when your attempts to play rock paper scissors wasn't working. you playfully hit his hip with your own, jay staring at you sternly before chuckling. "well, we should make something we both want to eat" he suggests. "jay i'll literally eat anything you make even if it's burnt" you deadpan, making the male splash a bit of water at you. "hey that was one time!" he exclaims, huffing as he puts the dried plate on the rack.

you laugh as you rinse the plate, "let's make something we can cook for a while so we can watch a movie or something" you recommend, jay eyeing you with a suggestive look, his facade dropping as he laughs. you hit him with your hip, handing him the last plate and drying your hands, "nevermind we're just making cheese ragoons" you finish, leaving him at the sink by himself. jay calls after you, catching up and tackling you. "don't be like that, let's look for recipes when we're getting ready for bed " he coos, pinching your cheeks as he traps you on the floor with legs over your torso. you slap his hands away, giggling as he leans forward to kiss you.

"so is that a no to the cheese ragoons?" you whisper as you pull away from the kiss, jay rolling his eyes at your question before pressing another kiss to your lips.

Could I ask for a JayxReader oneshot/headcanon for Reader meeting and dating Jay during his TV host phase?

Reader maybe doesn't even know that Jay is the Lightning Ninja (possibly moved to the city as of recent?) and didn't find out until Jay returns from the Tournament of Elements and introduces Reader to the other Ninja? Or maybe Reader did know ahead of time but didn't care since Jay is just Jay to them.

Just Jay

You were new to Ninjago city, hoping to open a nice flower shop or café; something to liven up the place and make it sweeter.

Unfortunately, you only seemed to find bad luck. The shop you wanted was bought out from under you by someone with more money, one of the moving vans with your silverware, dishes, clothes, and decorations was lost, and the people who were already in your apartment thought they still had two days, and hadn't moved out yet.

"No, no, it's okay." You assured the family, "I'll just...find a temporary hotel to stay at."

Every room was full. As if the day couldn't possibly get any worse, while you were looking for a place to eat, someone decided to steal from you.

He was holding a knife at you, and didn't seem to come alone as two men were behind you, ready to catch you if you ran. "We don't want any trouble, just give us your money, and we'll let you go."

You were already in tears from losing your shop and not having anywhere to stay, and this only served to make you more miserable, as you couldn't even move your arms to grab your wallet.

A kind and chipper voice makes you look up, "there you are, dear!" It's a young man dressed in a blue suit, and he's waving to you. "You haven't run into any trouble, have you?"

You played along, and pretended to be his date. You were surprised the men knew who he was, and even backed off.

You expected this to be a simple act of kindness, but he seemed to notice your sadness. He asked you about what was troubling you, and even though you insisted you were okay, you eventually relented and told him what happened.

"Well, why don't I just buy you a new shop? And you can stay with me while your housing situation is being dealt with."

You looked over at him in shock, "what? But I haven't done anything to deserve-"

He shushes you with a smile, explaining he was a television host and made plenty of money; enough to share with you so you could achieve your dreams. "I feel it's only fair, you know? I got to have my dreams come true, so why shouldn't other people have the same?"

After two days of living with him, you learned his name, and a little about him. He was open and honest with you the whole time, and even made you promise to visit him often. You were surprised he was a ninja, with lightning powers no less, but broke off with his old team because they went through a really bad rough patch.

You sympathized with him, and assured him he'll find his old friend again, so they can be a team. "No, it's okay. I don't miss it too much." He looked over at you and smiled. "I like what I have now."

Slowly, you went from being acquaintances, to friends, to really good friends, and soon, you realized you both really liked each other. Yet, secretly, you worried about Nya. You still weren't sure if she was his ex, or still his girlfriend, or what.

He assured you that it was over, that she wasn't interested in him anymore, and with time, he realized he just wasn't interested either. "There's...actually someone I like even more now."

You were happy together, and had dated for an entire month, before Jay just...vanished. He left a note, of course, stating he was meeting with his old ninja friends, and that he would be back...that night. That was the last you saw or heard of him.

Winter was just beginning, and your café was busy with customers looking for warm food and coffees. You had four other employees now, not just you, and it was nice to have others help you run the shop; it could stay open longer.

Others had tried to ask you out, but you insisted Jay would come back. No one really believed you, since he hasn't been seen for nearly a month, and even his television show had been taken off air. Part of you believed he was truly gone, but you wanted to believe he would come back.

You trudged home through the newly fallen snow, staring down at your feet as you counted the steps it took to get to his house. You'd check every time before you went to your apartment if he had come back yet. First it started with 319 large steps, but it gradually took longer and longer, dragging your feet because you weren't ready to face disappointment again, until it was taking you 754 steps to get to his house.

"(Y/N)!" You ignored whoever was calling your name. Your shift was over, you just wanted to check Jay's house before going home.

"(Y/N)!" There it was again, but more familiar in voice. For once, you walked faster.

"Oh, (Y/N), what will it take to get my handsome partner to look at me again?" No way. Your head snapped up as you stopped.

"J...Jay?" The name shakily left your mouth as you grinned and began to cry happily. Neither of you had to speak another word as you both dashed forwards, grabbing each other into the tightest hug you could manage. You pressed the side of your head against his, and he nuzzled against you, grabbing the back of your head as he sobbed into your shoulder.

"(Y/N), I'm so, so sorry for not saying anything, or warning you about anything, and I really wanted to but there was no signal or-" He whimpered as you pet down his messy hair.

"Shh," you hushed him, "it's okay, it's okay, you're okay." You smiled into his hair, "I'm just glad you're safe. I'm glad you're home."

You got a solid ten seconds to yourselves before someone grabbed your other shoulder, "so," you yelped at the sudden interaction, "you must be the famous (Y/N) Jay has been crying about all this time?"

"Yeah, you should've seen him, he was checking his phone every half hour for a signal because he was worried that you were worrying about him or mad-"

"Gee, guys, thanks for ruining our moment." Jay frowned, pulling away so you could get a look at the team. He smiled at you and gave you a sweet kiss on your cheek, holding your hand tightly. "(Y/N), you remember the team, right? Well, this is Kai, Cole, Zane, and Lloyd."

One by one, they each waved or winked at you, as you smiled at each of them. "Well, thank you all for taking care of my Jay, but we must get going. I know he loves coming to the café after a long day at work, and I'm sure this is no different." Jay hummed agreement, and went to leave with you, but was stopped quickly.

"Wait, that's it? No, 'oh hey ninja!' or anything like that?"

You stare at them in confusion, as Jay looks to you lovingly. "I think it's nice that they don't mind. They love me for who I am, not what I do."

You grin at him, "and I love your honesty. I...might've been more frightened if you didn't tell me you were a...ninja of magic."

He kisses you as you both walk towards the café. "I'm glad you don't care about my ninja side." He laughs as you call him a magic ninja, "everyone else does, and they act like it's the only thing I do, so...I'm glad I met you."

You grin, "I'm glad I met you, too."

It was strange, the things you thought about when you had a gun pointed at your head, and you’d know, this wasn’t exactly the first time. 

When the drug exchange Intelligence organised had gone sideways in the backroom of a bar in Canaryville and a patron had been taken hostage, you’d decided to do the smartest and most well thought out thing you could think of: you offered to take her place at the other end of the barrel.

Needless to say, this wasn’t the turn of events your unit had planned for, and you just knew the exact conversation you’d be having with Voight about your recklessness later. If there was a later. 

But a civilian was safe and out of harms way, you’d done your duty.

Your Sergeant had sent you in with Jay to make the deal, though you weren’t actually partners, but Jay had the Canaryville insight you needed to make an introduction and Erin had spoken to your suspect in an official capacity the previous day, so Voight had paired the two of you up together. 

Now, you couldn’t help but think about the conversation you’d had with Kim, your actual partner, that morning about the whole situation, despite the gun to your head and Jay panicking in front of you, unable to give up your covers but trying his best to talk down your erratic suspect. 

The whole situation being your feelings for Jay. Oh yeah, you had it bad. And the make it even worse, you were pretty sure he and Erin were together anyway. Kim had told you she wasn’t sure, but everyone had noticed the tension between Jay and Voight recently, and his not so subtle warnings about keeping things professional with Erin. He always swore it was, but you couldn’t help but wonder.

So you’d decided to try and avoid them both, sort out your feelings, but apparently that was too much to ask for when you’d found yourself partnered up with Jay. 

“Listen man, we can work this out okay, we have the money, we showed it to you,” Jay tried to reason with Barney, the suspect in question with the very much loaded gun. He’d been jumpy from the get go, twitching during the entire deal, and Jay had wanted to pull out. You, however, had had to be stubborn, still annoyed about him and Erin even though you’d had no right to be, and so you’d insisted you stay. 

Voight was so going to chew you out for this.

“Nah, nah man I don’t like this, something’s not right,” Barney shook his head, his gun hand very much as unsteady as the rest of him - was he high? Not that it mattered in the moment, you didn’t have to be a sniper to find your mark when the barrel of your gun was firmly pressed into the side of a person’s forehead.

Jay took a deep breath, eyes wide with worry as he looked to you, “take the money,” he blurted, hands still out to try and show Barney he wasn’t a threat.

“No man, the deals not happening-” Barney tried to tell Jay again, but he only shook his head.

“I’m not talking about that deal, okay? Take the money and give me back Rachel,” he offered instead, still using your cover name in an attempt to keep the situation from going nuclear.

You blinked, surprised by his offer, you hadn’t expected him to go quite so off the book. Barney seemed to hesitate too, “the money for the girl?” He clarified slowly, other arm slacking a little from where it had been wrapped around the top of your chest and shoulders.

Jay nodded immediately, slowly and deliberately reaching for the bag of money on the table and dropping it at his feet, Barney’s eyes following it with eager curiosity. He may have been suspicious, but he wasn’t very bright. 

The whole point of the exchange was to see the drugs and make the bust, not that pointing a gun at someone wasn’t cause for an arrest enough, but you’d needed to see the product to link it back to a bigger supplier, without that, you were back to square one and out a fair amount of money. 

But Jay didn’t seem to be thinking about that right now, he seemed to be entirely focused on you.

“I kick you the money at the same time as you let her go, how about that?” Jay negotiated, not really hiding his concern. Part of you wanted to object, this wasn’t exactly the objective, but you weren’t in any position to argue, if you’d just listened to Jay in the first place this wouldn’t have happened. 

Barney mulled it over before nodding, the large bag of cash being too good to resist as his grip on you started to relax. Jay kicked over the money, gesturing for him to let you go and take it. 

Hell no, you thought. As soon as his grip on you had relaxed enough you aimed a sharp elbow to his gut, throwing another one into his nose as he stumbled back, spinning around and disarming him before he knew what was happening. 

Intelligence was bursting in in seconds, Jay rushing to you to make sure you were okay. “Y/N, Y/N are you okay?” He reached a hand out to your shoulder but you brushed him off, shaking out your arm and rubbing your elbow.

“Fine,” you basically snapped, surprising him. Honestly, you were more annoyed at yourself at this point, but for some reason you were taking it out on Jay. You knew it wasn’t fair, but you needed some space right now, heading past him to Kim as Erin cuffed Barney, trying not to look at Jay’s confused and hurt face.

A tonne of paperwork and an ear full from Voight later you found yourself sat in the locker room at the end of your shift, head in hands as you thought about the day, unable to make yourself move. 

You’d let your personal feelings for Jay interfere with your job, something you’d wanted to specifically try to avoid by avoiding him and Erin in general, but it clearly hadn’t worked. What were you going to do?

“You still here?” A voice came from behind you, making you jump as you looked back to see Jay wandering in, heading for his locker as he regarded you carefully. 

“Just heading out,” you replied coldly, forcing yourself up to grab your things out of your locker as quickly as you could.

Jay, however, had other ideas. As you slammed your locker shut and turned to leave, echoing a generic ‘night’ in his direction as you did, he stepped quickly into your path.

You nearly collided into him, blinking in confusion. “Jay-” you began but he cut you off.

“You’ve been avoiding me for days, and today- Y/N, I don’t understand what I did, I thought we were at least friends, but you’ve been giving me the cold shoulder and I need to know why,” he said, clearly getting something off of his chest that he’d been debating saying for a while.

You took a breath, not sure what you’d expected really, of course you couldn’t have kept it up forever, but you weren’t really prepared to answer him. “I- I’m not- look, I know I messed up today-”

“It’s not just about today Y/N, but if I’ve done something to offend you I’m sorry, we need to talk about it though, sort it out so it doesn’t affect our job again,” Jay explained, expression softening as he added: “you could have been seriously hurt today, and I couldn’t handle that.”

“I’m sorry,” you swallowed, mind racing to come up with something to day besides telling him the truth, “it’s not you, really it’s not, I’m figuring something out... it won’t happen again,” you promised. 

“If something’s wrong, I’m here if you need to talk,” he offered, “I’m worried Y/N, I care about you and I-” Jay stopped himself, as if saying something he shouldn’t have.

“I’m good Jay, and I don’t want to keep you, if Erin’s waiting upstairs-” you slipped up, wincing in realisation as Jay gave you a puzzled look.

“Erin? Why would Erin be waiting, she went home about an hour ago I think,” Jay told you, “you almost sound like Voight.”

“Is he... wrong?” You dared ask, kicking yourself for even doing it, definitely not being subtle anymore. Though, you hadn’t exactly been subtle before. 

“About me and Erin? There’s nothing going on between me and Erin, she’s not the one I... I just, no, I don’t like Erin like that,” Jay fumbled an explanation, looking a little sheepishly at his feet.

“Oh,” you replied, sounding a little too happy about that fact as you thought about his words, “but you do... like someone like that?”

Jay looked back up at you, rubbing the back of his neck. “Don’t you know?” He asked, looking at you in a way you couldn’t quite describe. 

You looked at him questioningly, mind trying to figure out who he was talking about as he looked at you, and then it dawned. Was he talking about you? He couldn’t be, could he? No, surely not. But the way he had said that, the way he was looking at you...

“Oh,” you gasped as he cleared his throat, looking embarrassed. 

“Sorry, I shouldn’t have said anything, it’s not like I expect anything-” he started but you cut him off with a surprised laugh. Well, he’d been honest with you, the least you could do was be honest back.

“Jay, that’s kind of why I’ve been avoid you,” you said, clarifying quickly when you saw his face fall, “not because I thought you liked me, but because I thought you were with Erin, and I liked you, I like you, and I didn’t want to be weird or awkward, which I guess it exactly how I ended up acting really, but...” - breath god damn it - “I feel the same way, is I guess what I’m trying badly to get across.”

There was a pause before Jay smiled, you loved that smile, “can I buy you a drink?” He offered, gesturing towards the door. 

You smiled back, “I’d like that.”

This friendship started from nowhere. You and Jay were in the same high school, when you moved to Chicago from New York. He was your best friend from the begging. You didn’t have much friends, but he was always for you, since first day. You remember it, like it was yesterday. Your mom drived you to school and wished you good luck, then from nowhere, Jay appeared. He told you that he’s the one who will show you the whole school. Of course, you thought he’s cute, but nothing more, besides at this time he had a girlfriend. So at this day, he showed you his favourite places in the building, told you about an amazing lunch place and showed you your locker. You had almost every class with him, so you couldn’t even get lost in school.

And it was only the beginning. Time in collage was your best time in life. You met new people, made new friendships, you even had a boyfriend but things end up bad. Then, it was time when Jay left to join a military. You were still in touch with him, even it was hard, so you knew when he'll be back. Days were passing by, you found a job as a cardiologist in Med, you started a different life, when this day came. Jay was back, but it was all strange. He wasn't the same, so do you. Work, always being in the hospital, you couldn't find enough time for him when he needed you the most. He was broken, so badly, but you didn't know what to do. As much you wanted to help, he started to refuse and then he got an idea to join police academy. You weren't sure about this, because you knew how this can hurt him again, but in the end you decided to support his decision. He was good at his job, maybe even more than that, he has you by his side, so everything was simpler.

Things got complicated. Your feelings to be more clear. You started seeing each other more often, nights in your apartment, dinners in fancy restaurants, sometimes it was just a beer in some bar. But you never thought this will change your life. Jay got a proposition to work in Intelligence unit and he of course agreed. He wanting you to meet all of the members, so one night you joined them at Molly's. You really liked those people, they were like a family to Jay and he finally looked happy.

And here we are. You and Jay know each other for almost 15 years, he's working in Intelligence, you still have your job at Med, which is awesome and you have a lot of new friends from CPD.

"Look what we got!" Kevin smiled when he saw you walking into district with coffee and some food for the unit. Every Wednesday you were bringing them something to eat and you had a lunch break with them. It became a thing after Hailey joined the unit. She had a good influence on Jay and in some way you wanted to thank her, not too obvious, so it turned out to bringing food to everyone as a thanks.

"I'm so sorry that it took me this long, I couldn't find a parking place." you greeted him and went upstairs right behind him. Jay was sitting behind his desk, Hailey on the other side. You smiled at them and went to the break room to see Kim.

"Hey, what's up, why are you not talking to them?" she asked you. You frowned and looked at her.

"What? No? Of course I'm not avoiding them." you smirked and gave her a coffee. She knows you too well.

"Y/N, please... I know what I see. You haven't talked to Hailey for few weeks now. And Jay? Are you even listen to me?"

"I just... I'm not sure how to tell you this, but um-" you almost whispered, when you heard someone entering the room.

"Y/N, I'm so sorry but we've got a case and Kim needs to go with me on crime scene." Adam said. You nodded in agreement and they left. You didn't have much time before your shift, besides, you didn't want to stay here alone with Hailey and Jay, so you decided to go to work sooner.

When you were walking out of the room, you saw Hailey and Jay talking and laughing at something, guess you didn't want to bother them and you decided to go a little bit faster, but Hailey saw you.

"You're going? I hope we're still having our night with Kim and Vanessa tonight?" she smiled.

"Oh, right, I totally forgot about it. I have to work tonight, I'm so sorry." you gave her a weak smile and waved, then quickly left.

Praying and almost running to your car, you had so many thoughts in your mind. You love Hailey like a sister. She and Kim are your closest friends since you met them because of Jay, but now... You felt like a extra wheel. Hailey and Jay were more than friends, that was obvious. But you couldn't get your feelings out of your chest.

After 10 mintues riding around the Med, you noticed that someone is following you. At this point you were so sure that you don’t know this person and because of the Jay’s job you were too touchy about situations like this. Every day you heard about kidnapping, murder or even worse if it’s possible. You parked and left your car being extra careful and watching every person who was around you. But after a moment, from nowhere you felt sharp pain in your arm, someone’s scream and everything went black.

I opened my eyes and saw nothing but a chair in front of me. I was sitting there alone with covered mouth and tied hands. Nothing seemed familiar, it was so cold.

“Oh, who’s finally awake” some guy said and took the material out of my mouth.

“I don’t know you, what am I doing here?”

“But honey, I know you and that’s all the matter.”

“You got the wrong person, I’m not even working in CPD.”

“You started to understand... I’m not looking for a cop. I’m looking for a doctor. I need you to help me with something.” he looked in the corner. Young male walked by with a girl in his arms.

“What do you want from me?” you snapped.

“She got a bullet in her leg, you need to do something.”

“How? You shooted me in my arm, I’m barely feeling it.”

“What did you do? What the fuck man, are you crazy?’ the other guy asked. He sat the girl on the chair and started to argue with my I guess kidnapper.

“She needs a medical treatment, a hospital, not me.”

“But you have no choice! Your job is to save people’s life, so shut up and do your thing!” he untied you and pushed to the girl. She was bleeding pretty bad, so did you. You couldn’t raise your arm anymore, it hurt too much.

“I need some things...”

JAY’S POV:

Hailey entered the room with a weird look on her face. She looked definitely scared,

“Jay? Can we talk?” she asked. Something definitely happend.

“Sure, what’s wrong? Don’t tell me that our surprise won’t work”

“No, it’s not about that... Actually it’s about Y/N. Will called me and...um... He said that her patient saw a guy who were shooting at parking lot and he shooted her. Then she couldn’t find her, like she just disappeared.”

“You’ve got to be kidding me!”

Almost immediately he left the station, but Hailey, Adam and Kevin rushed behind him. They all decided to look for some informations and drove to the hospital, while Kim stayed at district.

Time was passing by and there was no sign of Y/N. They talked to Will, he told them the same thing that before. He wasn’t outside when it happened, so he couldn’t help them more. He gave them an adress of Y/N’s patient who saw this whole situation. They all agreed to go and talk to her.

MEANWHILE Y/N’S POV:

I was tying up my arm, when the younger guy appeared. He was furious I could say.

“Are you kidding me? You suppose to help he, not yourself!”

“Can you just shut up?! I’m trying to do my job and guess what with this arm it’s hard!” you yelled. It was the stupidest thing you have ever done. You didn’t know if he could do more damage, but right now, this girl’s life was your priority. You took the advantage, maybe this will help in some way.

“I’m sorry, it’s just... I love her so much. I didn’t have a chance to say that to her yet. I’m so scared.” he said.

“I know how this thing works. I have the exactly same problem right now.” 

“Is she gonna be okay?” he asked.

“I’ll do my best kid, just please keep your friend away from her and me.” he nodded and walked away.

JAY’S POV:

“Kim? We’ve got a lead. Search for a car, old SUV, with white marks on the back.”

“I’ve got something. The same car was here at the district few hours ago and then we can see him at the parking lot at hospital.” she said.

“Keep searching, he can’t be far away."

They all headed back to station, only to find out that Kim found SUV. Team went to the place.

Y/N'S POV:

"I need more time! It's not that simple to remove a bullet okay?" this was getting only worse. This younger guy went somewhere, he was the only one who I could talk to without yelling. But this older one? Well, he's standing there with gun pointed at my head.

"I feel like you're doing this on purpose. Tell me, you know someone, right? A cop, firefighter, maybe some doctor, huh?" I looked at him confused.

"Of course! You know someone! That's why you're so calm!" he yelled and went closer to me. He grabbed my hand where he shooted me and clenched it hard.

"Chicago PD! Drop your gun!" Jay was standing in front of you, when the guy pulled you closer to him.

"Let her go or I'll shoot you!" he yelled. The guy almost immediately dropped his gun and pulled you on the ground. Hailey ran to him and handcuffed him. Jay in meantime went to you and helped you to get up.

"Are you okay? Oh my god, I was so worried, let's go to Med." he hugged you, but you pulled away.

"I'm fine, the bullet isn't stuck. I can go on my own." you snapped and went to Kim. She offered you to go with you and you agreed.

Jay at the other hand, was standing there, not knowing what to do. Hailey sent him a smile.

"Talk to her Jay. She deserves to know." she said.

They all went back to the station. It was a hard day to everyone. Jay walked upstairs and saw you in Voight's office, but he wasn't there.

"Y/N? What are you doing here?" he asked. You looked at him and didn't know what to say. You just wished he wouldn't be here now.

"Er... I didn't need to stay in hospital so Voight asked me if I could meet him here to get my statement.

"But he won't be here for next couple of minutes so I want to talk to you." he said.

"Now? Is it important? We can talk later..." you started to make more excuses.

"No, we need to talk now. Let's go to more private place." you went behind him to locker room. You could feel this look that Hailey gave you when she saw both of you. Oh god, it was awful.

"So, what's the thing?"

"What's wrong Y/N? You keep avoiding me and Hailey and we don't even know what happened."

"Are you kidding me Jay? I'm... I'm done playing this game. I like you Jay. More than a friend and uh, I won't let me ruin your relationship with Hailey because of it. Yup, that's is, I said it." you snapped. He was looking at you with mouth wide opened. Your cheeks went red, you felt so embarrassed.

"Wait, what? What relationship? And you love me?"

"Oh please, cut the bullshit Jay. I saw you today with her, few days ago too, one week ago too, you're with her in every free second and I just can't do this anymore. She's my best friend, just like you and I'll play it cool, I want you to be happy, but... Nevermind, I said too many things." you passed by him and wanted to just go home.

"Y/N, wait. It's not what it looks like. Me and Hailey... We're not together. And what I'm gonna say it's probably ruin the moment, but anyway... I like you too Y/N. More than a friend. And this thing between me and her, oh gosh you silly, we were trying to make you a dinner surprise for our friendship anniversary. I wanted to ask you if you feel the same about me, but now I think it's all clear." he laughed. You felt so bad at this point. You took everything wrong. And wait? Jay is in love with you too?

"Oh my god... I ruined everything! Gosh, I was so stupid." you said. Jay walked closer to you and took your chin and made you look at him.

"Wait, but... Is this dinner still up? Cause i'll totally say yes to this." you asked him. He laughed at you and nodded his head.

"Of course. Whenever you want baby." he answered.

"But not today. I think I need to go and talk to Hailey, I definitely owe her an apology and we definitely need to go for our girls night tonight." you fixed your hair and went to the door.

"Y/N, wait! I think we should uhm..." he scratched his head and looked at you, looking kinda nervous.

"We should what Halstead? I need to fix my friendship..." you teased him.

"Kiss?" he blurred out.

"Oh, right... Kiss." you walked closer to him and looked into his eyes.

"Halstead, I don't have a whole day."

"Yeah, you're right." he smiled and went closer until your lips finally met. He kissed you slowly, like you were gonna disappear after this. After a moment you pulled back and said:

"But don't think I won't be jealous anymore."
