SUPEREGO: FORGOTTEN CLASSICS
SUPEREGO: FORGOTTEN CLASSICS is a bold interpretation of the great works of literature. So bold in fact, nobody at Superego even bothered to read them. In this live and live-streamed show our players will improvise a famous work of fiction, one with which they’re not at all familiar. They’ll be given only the book’s title, its first and last lines, and the names of its characters. The rest is up to them.
This time out, Superego reimagines James Joyce’s Ulysses!
Featuring:
James Bladon
Jeremy Carter

obsessed with the idea of jeremy loving hamlet and much ado and i cannot believe i never stopped to think about what his favorite books would be (& specifically which of the classics he most love) before now and i would LOVE to hear any further thoughts you have on this to supplement my own contemplation🫡
HELL YES MY FRIEND
okay fair warning: a good deal of this will be projection, but hey.
a portrait of the artist as a young man by james joyce: guilt!!! so much guilt! and it’s also absolutely delightful to jeremy that such an overtly religion-questioning queercoded book was published in 1916 ireland. and while he doesn’t relate directly to stephen (lack of religious trauma + lack of loving family) he does relate a lot to cranly
ulysses by james joyce (which i haven’t even read yet, so this can’t be projection): he just really likes it okay. english lit majors need to love ulysses
every single thing by ursula le guin: not classics exactly, but he loves the way she challenges normal literary canon expectations, and he just generally really likes unconventional storytelling
okay projection time: the goldfinch by donna tartt. he loves the goldfinch because i love the goldfinch and also because of the culminating realisation of “the space between reality and the point at which the mind hits reality, the rainbow edge where all art exists, and all magic.” also because literature (art) was a very important part of his growth as an individual and he can see that reflected in the goldfinch
he has something against charles dickens. he doesn’t like him
complicated relationship with byron. he can talk for hours about the romantic friend group (byron, the shellys, keats, polidori) and also about the unconventional nature of byron’s poetry, but he will also never miss the opportunity to drag byron through the mud
what about you what do you think??

I like to think Scout's whole family has J names. Scout is 26 in 1972. So if we assume Scout's mom started having kids when she was 18 and had one child per year leading up to jeremy, she is around 51 un '72. Which means she must've been born in the early 1920s. If we go off popular names at the time I think her name is Joyce.

1x1 RP Request
Hey there! My name’s Teddy, but you can also call me Theo, Ted, or Tedster—whatever feels right! I’m 23 and looking for a long-term, detailed roleplay partner who loves angst, slow-burn romance, and deep character development just as much as I do.
I’ve been roleplaying since I was around 17, starting on Amino before moving to Discord. I took a small hiatus last year due to personal issues, but I’m back and ready to start writing again. I focus on quality over excessive length and love exploring my favorite characters in unique and compelling ways. If you enjoy in-depth storytelling, found family dynamics, and emotional intensity, we’ll probably get along great!

📖 Plot Ideas & AU Preferences 📖
I love character-driven narratives, emotional arcs, and unique settings! Here are a few plot ideas I’d love to explore, but I’m always open to brainstorming something new:
🌙 Post-Storyline AUs – Could be based right after the initial plot took place or even years after it took place.
🏠 One Stayed, One Left – One character moved away while the other stayed behind. Maybe they’ve become a parent, or they’re lonely and stuck in the past.
👥 Foster Care AU – One character is almost 18, jaded and angry after being in the system too long, while the other helps them open up. (Works best as a Platonic RP TBH)
🎓 Teachers AU – They reconnect or meet as teachers in the same school.
🌲 Summer Camp Counselors – A chance meeting at a summer camp leads to something deeper. 🎭 Artist x Theater Kid – Opposites attract in an artsy way!
🌀 Group Therapy AU – They meet while working through their personal struggles.
🔄 Body-Swap AU – Chaos, hilarity, and emotional introspection!
🎓 College AU – A fresh start, new friendships, and navigating adulthood together.
⚠️ Boundaries & Triggers ⚠️
I love writing angst, but I do have a few limits:
🚫 No excessive gore/violence – I can handle some, but not in large amounts or suddenly.
🚫 No gun-related topics – Guns make me extremely uncomfortable.
🚫 No hospital settings – Please avoid this theme.
🚫 No car crashes – I have a major issue with this topic.
🚫 No animal abuse – Shouldn’t have to say this, but I’ve been proven otherwise.
For dark themes, there needs to be buildup – If a character struggles with something like depression or suicidal ideation, I prefer realistic character development instead of it happening randomly.
📌 RP Style & Preferences 📌
✅ I only RP canon characters – No main OCs (I allow side character OCs, but they must be discussed first).
✅ I write in third-person – I’d prefer if my partner does the same.
✅ No script-style RP – No asterisks for actions or “hfjskdj” in dialogue.
✅ Character ages must be 17+ for romance plots and 18+ for NSFW content – No exceptions.
✅ I prefer partners 18+ but am willing to RP with younger partners as long as the RP stays appropriate.
✅ I match responses but prefer semi-lit to literate – I start off with longer responses but may shorten them as we get comfortable.
📩 Interested? Let’s Chat! 📩
If any of this sounds like your vibe, DM me here or on Discord (@awkward_anxiety)! I love OOC conversations and brainstorming, so don’t be afraid to reach out. Let’s create something amazing together!

Alex Pascall, OBE (November 21, 1936) is a British broadcaster, journalist, musician, composer, oral historian and educator. He was one of the developers of the Notting Hill Carnival, is a political campaigner, and was part of the team behind the birth of Britain’s first national Black newspaper The Voice. Credited with having “established a Black presence in the British media”, he is most notable as having been one of the first regular Black radio voices in the UK, presenting the program Black Londoners on BBC Radio London for 14 years. Black Londoners became the first Black daily radio show in British history.
Born on the island of Grenada, he was the eldest son in a family of 10. He traveled to Britain, having represented his country as a musician in the Bee Wee Ballet Dance Troupe at the inauguration of the Federation of the West Indies. He remained in the UK for more than five decades. He involved himself with music and his group The Alex Pascall Singers, is reportedly the first known multicultural choir in London.
He provided a mouthpiece for many Black musicians, artists, and politicians who either lived in or passed through the capital. Prominent guests on the program from the worlds of politics, sport, literature, and the arts included Muhammad Ali, Alex Haley, Bob Marley, Marvin Gaye, C. L. R. James, Maurice Bishop, Michael Jackson, Arthur Ashe, Althea McNish, Mustapha Matura, Jeremy Corbyn MP, Leon Britton MP, Angela Davis, Miriam Makeba and the Mighty Sparrow, Juliet Alexander, Syd Burke and Mike Phillips.
He presented A Different Rhythm, an eight-part BBC Radio 3 series, on the impact of the Black presence on British music and musicians.
He has researched and presented Caribbean Cocktail on BBC Radio 2, They Came Before the Windrush on BBC Radio 4, Alex Pascall’s Caribbean Folk Music, Let the Music Talk, Sophisticated Ladies, and World War Calypso.
He and his wife Joyce have lived in Crouch Hill, London, since 1959. Their daughter Deirdre is an arts educator, composer for film, professional cellist, and pianist. Their son Ayandele is a film editor. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence

Note
favourite books you read in 2023? least favourite?
To the surprise of absolutely no one, my dearest, favourite book I read this year was T.E Lawrence's Seven Pillars of Wisdom. It was the kind of book that was not only damn good but also changed me fundamentally as a person and put my personality and interests on a new trajectory with a jetpack strapped on. It's impossible to overstate the impact this book has had on me. The actual, physical edition I read is also part of my dearest 2023 memories: I was on a mission to find it when I went on a solo-trip to Berlin this summer, the first bookshop I went to gave me a postcard and wrote some suggestions for where to find it on the back (I have the postcard taped up by my bed) - I took the U-bahn straight to the first shop and they had it! I loved that shop, it had such a cool vibe and the man at the register was really nice. Bought way too many books there most of which I still haven't read. When I open that edition of Pillars it's like I'm back in Berlin in the summer heat. I've said all of this and not even talked about the inherent qualities of the book, but they're many and I loove it. WE SEVEN PILLARS POSTING IN THIS INVIOLATE HOUSE AS A MEMORY TO YOU.
Lawrence's The Mint was also another favourite, as was Jeremy Wilson's Lawrence biography and John Mack's Prince of Our Disorder.
On the topic of non-fiction, I read a very entertaining book called The Fires of Lust: Sex In The Middle Ages which I recommend. Really interesting and enlightening research and assertions. It humanizes peoples of the past and effectively makes the point that people, across time and space, are pretty much the same while pointing out the differences between medieval sexuality and our popular (mis)conceptions of it.
Back to literary fiction, I also read and very much enjoyed The Color Purple by Alice Walker, The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath and Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison. James Joyce's The Dead was my favourite short-story, with E.M Forster's The Life to Come and D.H Lawrence's Fanny and Annie coming in at 2nd and 3rd, respectively.
I didn't read any fiction I would call bad or anything, but if I have to say least favourite it's probably Emily St. John Mandel's Station Eleven. Just not my type of book.
Some of the (new) books I hope to read and finish by 2024: War and Peace (cirka 200 pages in rn), Anna Karenina, Orlando, The Odyssey, A Passage to India, The full Oxford text of Seven Pillars of Wisdom, and Jens Bjørneboe's Bestialitetens Historie.
This got kinda long but thank you for the ask darling❤️
