👑 Carnaval Macabre 🌿

I like to draw parallels between the imagery of carnivals and the danse macabre, because they represent very complementary ideas for me.

The jester Harlequin originates from a divine folklore character appearing at the head of a great procession of the dead and the living (a danse macabre if you will), making of carnival a period of in-between during which we play and dance with the dead.

The danse macabre motif is meant to remind us of the insignificance of social hierarchies in the face of death: whether you are noble or peasant, one day your time will come! But I find a dissonance in there… while the monarch takes refuge in his privilege tower, Death diligently goes about sweeping the minorities who found themselves thrown into its path by a life riddled with injustice.

These inequalities to which a danse macabre only shows indifference, the carnival overthrows: saints are abolished and fools are crowned. In this period of power inversions, we ward off the hold of the dead on our lives and briefly get a glimpse of an existence that used to be “humble and colorful, chaotic and alive, made of metamorphosis and free relationships”.

This is 𐐪𐑂˚₊·☽ Crepuscule ☾·₊˚𐐪𐑂

The name is another word for twilight. Also, none of the pronouns I looked at seemed to fit Crepiscule, so just Crepuscule's name will do, no pronouns <:-) And I'm very proud of how Crepuscule turned out!

I tried to stay as monochrome as possible. I used some satiny black fabric for the pants and hat, some denim-looking fabric for the shirt, and two materials layered together for the ruffles: light grey and black lacey mesh.

Crepuscule's suit is also removable, with two twinkle-shaped buttons I made out of air dry clay and paint.˚₊·⋆｡
