Pile One: Flowers

Whether your FS is male or female, I'm getting the impression that they have some similarities to Chapelle Roan, or simply just listen to her. I’ve already written everything I need for this reading, I’m just going back and polishing it, so I would like to take the time now to say that there are three consistent themes within this reading that appeared within this reading for me.

1. Your FS likely resembles a celebrity in some way (you’ve probably read another one of my PAC’s before and you fell under the pile where I talked about Zendaya and Tom Holland)

2. Your imagine of your FS isn’t entirely what you think. There is something here that is a little different than what you image or expected.

If your FS identifies as a woman, there’s a strong chance she has a similar look or vocal tone to Chapelle Roan, this hasn’t leaved me as I typed, although I’m getting that she probably doesn’t sings much, if at all, although she may just have that striking tone to her voice and appearance as a whole. She may also be a theater kid or have more of a theater-kid vibe about her, although this may just be you more than her. There are some parallels between the two of you (I’m also getting red lips, take it if that resonates, drop if not.) they may have a lot of similarities to you if not in appearance than interest. (I’m getting Hamilton and 21 Chump Street for some of you, maybe she likes musicals.) As I mentioned before there is a bit of a queer energy here, although don’t worry if you’re not, i’ll get to those of you who’s partner is likely male in a minute, but I digress. If you’re looking for a woman, I’m getting you’re looking for one who’s not only queer but also has a bit of that femme-fatale, Joan-of-Arc kind of vibe to her, like she’s a mix of princess and knight with a Renaissance-like appearance. I’m getting she definitely has that. Although for some of you this is likely a “Dream” and you’re being asked to be a little bit more “realistic” about your FS, no that they don’t exist or you the way you imagine but some of you imagine this warrior of a woman with big bright red flowy hair, something like maxie from Under the Oak Tree maybe, (but less shy) when in reality, her hair may be more of a brown-ish red rather than that bright almost blonde-ish ginger red you would see in like a movie or something, or perhaps more of a dyed color red. I feel like for some of you your FS may not even have red hair but just have dark wavy brown hair and freckles and while they will be outspoken they’re likely a little bit more introverted than you expected, but this doesn’t mean she’ll be any less fun or into the kind of stuff you’re into, i’m getting this is somewhat of my kinky pile and some of you are looking for a dominant woman, you’ll have it, you’ll have it, but don’t reduce her to only that, okay, haha. <3

If your FS identities as male, I sense a mix of patience and a bit of impatience from you lmao, you’re sick and tired of waiting both for me to get to describing your FS and also you’re sick of waiting for him to show up, but I’m getting there’s this back-and-forth inside you of what you want your FS to look like vs what they’ll most likely look like. (I know what my next PAC is gonna be about now lol.) Look, my love, your FS might not match the exact picture in your mind. 

And that’s okay. I’m literally getting the image of a slightly sun-kissed, blonde-haired, bright-eyed, “golden retriever” type of boyfriend who could be a book lover and surfer who hangs out at the beach often and is a fond of marine life and what not, the “perfect” guy with a chiseled jaw and bright gorgeous brown eyes that make you melt under the sun. Thiiiis is not him lmao, but this does not mean this is “not” him. What do I mean by this.

Much like I told you, or the other side of Pile one if you skipped the first half. Your FS has some qualities about them that are different from what you expected. I get the sense that you’re afraid he’s not going to be your type and that you’re not going to be attracted and perhaps you try hard to let go of this and tell yourself that you’re okay with “any” type no matter how he looks like, but sugar, 1. It’s okay to have a type but 2. It’s okay to allow yourself to be okay to like someone outside of your type. You need to be a little bit more kind to your mind and understand that you have no idea what this guy looks like, perhaps you have very high standards or maybe even a light prejudice that holds you back from imagine him to look like anything except what you imagine him like, I’m not here to judge you but you need to understand that if you want to grow past this, healing does not come from judgment, you can’t grow and shame yourself all at once. If you’re judging yourself, ask yourself why, sit with that thought or feeling and see what it wants and why is it there, do whatever you need for yourself in that moment and then let it pass by and evolve. You’ll be just fine <3 But back to your FS, your FS is a criminally attractive. You might not notice it at first because they don’t look how you imagined in your head, but once you give them the space they need to shine in front of you, oh man you’re never coming back.

I’m getting some of you are looking for more of a “Golden Retriever” type boyfriend but you’re likely to end up with more of a “Black Cat” kind of personality. They might actually be Black, like African American (I’m getting some of you are African yourselves, perhaps you’re from West Africa, you might be the same ethnicity but don’t worry this man will NOOOOOT look like your father lmao) or if they’re a woman, they may have more “Cat-Like” eyes and be a little quieter and have sharper more model like features than what you expected, think Nara Smith but with more of a bolder, Alt style/personality. Anyways, your FS is hard for me to describe because of this very reason, whenever I go to say something about them, your energy comes in with a panic “NO!” you say, hahaha. For some of you, you have NOTHING to worry about and they look EXAAAACTLY what you imagine them to look like, but maybe with one tiny, itty, bitty difference like maybe they longer lashes than you expected or they have a beauty mark on their face. But for others, they look like how you imaged but 1 key treat is just the opposite. If they’re male I get the sense, you’re looking for someone whos has softer feature or maybe they’re “beautiful” in an almost feminine sense, your FS will likely be likely be like this.  I feel like this is a very beautiful guy or maybe this is just your rose colored glasses trying to paint him like that again, haha, guys, please, I promise he’s beautiful, he’s very pretty but I get the sense some of you are attaching an almost unrealistic standard to how he’s gonna look like. You’re really indecisive here arent you? I keep repeating myself in this reading, it’s wild. But I promise I get it, it ain’t your fault. But do know that your FS DOES looks like a celebrity of some sort, if it’s not someone you recognie then maybe they just have the appearance of someone who would do good under the public eye, someone who’s very aesthetic and dresses well. But do keep the whole “1 opposite trait thing.”

If you expect them to look feminine, they’ll likely be masculine with feminine features.

If you expect them to be be silent and reserved, they’ll likely be calm but very sociable.

If you expect them to be tough and a lonewolf, they’ll likely be warm hearted but stern in a way.

I’ve been all over the place with this reading, let’s focus solely on their appearance.

If female she may look like Nara Smith or Chapelle Roan, If male a celebrity isn’t coming into mind (instagram model for some) but whatever image of a person, celebrity or not it is that you have in mind is the “Base” of their appearance BUT, find a trait, whatever it is that sticks out to you the most and switch it for something else. If her hair’s short, it’s likely rather long. If she’s Tall in your head, she’s probably a littler short. If he’s thin and a bit more on the delicate side, imagine him to be lean in his built or with a slightly rugged edge. Brown or “Reddish” Brown eyes for them.

Pile Two: Bicycle

Wow.. I don’t know how to describe your FS to you, I suddenly got this overwhelming sense of peace over me. I was just listening to United In Grief by Kendrick Lamar and now my phone’s Playing Blue Dream which honestly tells me so much about them. I feel like this person is just, honestly, a dream, I want to say they’re so pretty, but honestly calling them a beauty would be almost an understatement. They could be very spiritual, I’m struggling to pick up if they’re male or female, they may be non-binary and Identify as they/them or they may just be somewhat genderfluid. If they’re a woman, they have some “masculine” features to them, perhaps thicker eyebrows and wider shoulders, but honestly these features of their just make them appear even more mystical and more elegant. They can have very clear skin. If they’re male they might have some more “feminine” features about them, like soft beautiful lashes or a little beauty mark under the eye like that of a 1920’s actress. This person makes me think of incense, perhaps they meditate often or light some nice incense around the house, they really have this lovely earthy-spiritual vibe about them. If they’re black they may be light skin with soft curls, though for some of you it’s a tighter curl pattern, for others of you this person is simply foreign she could be south african if a woman and kind of resemble someone like Tyla, if male their ethnicity could genuinely be anything, though I’m getting they’re likely very mixed, they really give me Jhene Aiko vibes which makes sense given how she’s Black, Japanese, Dominican and something else I believe??? Correct me if I’m wrong. Overall this man is a beauty, I’m not sure why the Movie Millenium Actress by Satoshi Kon is coming into mind, but like the main character he could have a very calm, yet determined demeanor to him, I’m getting he’s been patiently searching for love for a very long time, much like her, a love that he’s not sure he’ll ever come to cross but he’s possible he’ll find one day. Gosh I can’t wait for you guys to meet. 

Alright let’s continue talking about appearance, they may have a “sleepiness” to their eyes and a sweetness to their smile that’s very calming, they might wear very flowy clothing or comfortable loose fitting clothes. I want to say street wear but honestly it’s a little more modest than regular street wear, this is only for a few of you but they may be muslim. Even if they aren’t they’re very stylish but they have a uniqueness to their appearance you wouldn’t expect to find anywhere else, it’s like a mix of modern and ancient. Like Imagine mixing punk with decora but still somehow making it work. I get the sense your future spouse might either be experimenting with their style or simply not have singular style and likes to try out different clothes. 

This is also something not appearance related, but they may not talk much, they’re likely more a of a listener, they’ll likely like to hear you talk more, although I’m getting the sense you won’t be able to do much talking around them when they’re admiring you lovingly with those deep inquisitive eyes of their, haha. Honestly, being with this person is just going to bring you such a sense of peace and I get when they do open their mouth it’s always going to be the silliest thing that makes you laugh or something that’s thought provoking and inspires soul-searching. I recommend you listen to Blue Dream by Jhene Aiko, their energy to me feels so similar to this. I keep finding myself saying “What a Dream! Pile one and two both had people who’s future spouse’s were likely Female, I’m sorry to say that if you’ve selected this pile expecting a woman, this is likely not for you. Wow, this person is MASCULINE like H.E.L.L honestly, they’re almost influencing the way I write, it’s very hard lmao to type casually like I do, but they’re very forward in the way that they talk. a lot of what people say about jyeshta is probably just misapplied traits from uttara bhadrapada

"warrior-ness", stoic philosophy, that's textbook uttara bhadrapada or even general saturnian stuff. when it comes to what type of warrior ubp is i think of joan of arc in particular. jyeshtas are not stoic and tough deep down, theyre just stubborn, theres a big difference. they share the quality with ubp that when faced with disappointment theyre able to keep going but the difference is ubp is more able to let go when they dont get exactly what they want and move onto something else cause they trust in the universe to give them what they need which is greater than what they want, while jyeshta acts like a stubborn pissy baby when they dont get what they want so they keep going after it but their stubborn pissy baby-ness is the reason why they often end up so successful. actual stoic people dont feel like hustling their way to the top cause a quiet average life doesnt bother them. they both have a spiritual side but unlike ubp jyeshta has an association with things like witchcraft which is a paradox of going along with the universe but also having a non-deterministic philosophy and actively trying to work against it, possibly to their demise

As much as I don't limit what I draw to canonical events, vampirism is so antithetical to DU drow's character journey that I couldn't really envision it, to be honest, but who knows! Maybe I'll cook up some Ascended Astarion scenario someday that is kind of a role-reversal of the Bhaalist DU Drow AU I have going on in tandem to the story.

I'll be honest, this is one of the rare times where I'm really not sure which aspect of DU drow's weirdness this is in reference to. Do you know something I don't? 😅

His masochism is very... Classic, I guess? He's in it for the pain and for the emotional connection, and the process of being pierced wouldn't cut it whatsoever, it's too subtle. The body modifications he has are an incidental result of it, but they were never really the goal.

Also having stuff dangling off his face or body would just irritate him, he specifically only does rings because all other types of jewellery get in the way too much. Pre-tadpole Bhaalist drow obviously wore them by the ton, but only as a symbol of status and because he had a permanent new-money complex🤷 so yeah not a piercing-type of character at all, sorry!

He's smooth from the eyelashes-down and profoundly weirded out by body hair LOL

I don't personally think that whatever Astarion had for a home before would bear my resemblance to it after 200 years - having probably gone through several owners, remodeled, if not completely lost to the destruction of the end-game. I do HC that he used to visit it whenever he could as an enthralled spawn to read his mail, but he stopped after his father passed.

Because I made his character on a whim and without any planned backstory, I didn't really put any thought into his Guardian's appearance either, so she's just a human woman with a Joan of Arc look going on who's of no significance to him or his past.

But DU drow did trust her, again not immediately but eventually. It was honestly a big kick in the gut to him when the Emperor revealed himself and it definitely set their relationship up to fail from the get-go.

This is also why he didn't ascend to the next stage of Ilithid power, he just stomped the thing dead right on the spot LOL

He was probably very overwhelmed by the sudden realization that OH, THIS IS ALL HAPPENING BECAUSE OF ME which naturally didn't come across whatsoever to anyone present since he immediately bottled it up and tucked it away out of sight. However, as the story progressed and DU drow helped his friends get out of their respective pickles he was probably able to justify it to himself as it having been for the greater good - since it led to Astarion being freed from his master and Shadowheart to defying the Sharrans.

As for all of the rest of the ensued destruction and death that resulted from it? Well you can't make an omelette without cracking some eggs, or whatever is the wizard version of that saying. He has essentially turned the entire situation into a net-positive in his mind and sleeps great at night because of it.

Summary: Inspired by a prompt by @aconstantstateofbladerunner - what could have been, if not for you - After Inko divorces him, Hisashi’s goes to the press to say All Might stole his wife and son.

Notes: So, uh, started poking around My Hero Academia. I haven't really heard good things about the canon stuff, especially its treatment of the female characters and issues with Tell not Show, but I have found a lot of fanworks I enjoyed!

He got the news after class.

"Hey, uh, Dekiru?" Ashido said, peering at her phone. They had all stopped calling him Deku after Bakugo's third assault on him got his parents called and his former fri- bully expelled and his actions in Aldera revealed to the class, mostly through Auntie Mitsuki's yelling. For a while, it had been awkward in class, especially around the Bakusquad, but things had gone back to normal with a new nickname for him. "Do you know a guy by the name of Midoriya Hisashi?"

Izuku looked up from his homework, where he was helping Shouto and Ochaco pick out a pre-Quirk hero to do their project for history class on. Tenya had already picked Joan of Arc. He hadn't heard the name in a while. Not since his mom and All Might started dating and she had to sit him down to explain the truth about her and his dad's relationship.

"Uh, yeah. He's my bio dad," he admitted, practically feeling Shouto's eyes go wide. He had been so certain about his bio-son theory, especially when his parents decided to tie the knot. "He moved to the United States when he and my mom divorced." Because he had been Quirkless.

It had been a tough pill to swallow, even though he hadn't seen the man since he was four.

"Well, uh...he's claiming that All Might stole your mom from him."

He blinked. He blinked again. The words stalled in his brain for a few seconds. Not even just the fact that he was in Japan again.

"What?!"

Ashido turned on the TV, flipping it until they reached a news channel. "-foreign market manager, Midoriya Hisashi, claims that the former Symbol of Peace, All Might, used his influence in order to send him on a twelve-year post in New York City in order to seduce his wife Midoriya Inko, now Hayashi-Yagi Inko-"

A slam on the table made him flinch, turning his head. "I refuse to believe that!" Ochaco bellowed, looking ready to bolt out and find Hisashi to fist-fight him. "Zuzu-san's mom would never do that!"

Shouto followed her, little flames puffing out as he hissed, his usual blank expression taken over by anger. "Inko-sama is the kindest, pure-hearted woman I have ever met," he said. "Her first concern is for Midoi." Tenya nodded furiously, his own face turning red, clearly too upset to even bother about a lecture about how heroes like All Might would never sink to that level.

"Aww," Izuku couldn't help the coo even as he pulled out his phone and typed in her number. "I'll tell her that you guys said that." He had to check on her. He knew she was probably fine, but she had received such nasty words when she and All Might came out.

"A lot of people agree with you guys too," Ashido said, scrolling on her phone. Next to her, Tsu and Jiro had pulled out their phones and were smiling at whatever they saw. "People are speaking up against the accusation, mostly for All Might-"

"But a lot of people love your mom, kero," Tsu said, her shoulders shaking. "There's even a tag trending called #DefendMsMight, kero,"

His phone picked up. "Izuku?" his mom said. Instead of tears like he almost expected, it sounded like she was laughing. "Izuku, did you see the news?"

"I did," he said, his heart slowing down. She wasn't hurt, she wasn't even upset. If his bio dad expected this to break her, he was wrong. "Tsu was telling me that a lot of people were defending you online."

"We love you, Inko-sama!" Shouto called.

That received a sniffle. "I love you guys too!" she called, probably crying at the affectionate title. Her voice suddenly sharpened in strange, bloodthirsty, glee. "But Hisashi's getting dragged everywhere and I love it."

"...like, now? Or before the lawyers get him?"

"Yes."

There is all this Nonsense going in Miraculous, and I'm STILL stuck on "Master Fu canonically let the holocaust happen". Like, "Mentor is too scared of failure" is valid and interesting, but why tf would they use WW2 for emphasizing that?!?! And Fu is Chinese. Maybe we should have made a bigger deal about the rising sun flag, actually. Having access to ALL the miraculouses, and still shrugging and walking away from goddamn concentration camps is just- what??? Literally no one would have asked the question, except as a joke, if they didn't put a scene of him and his wife fleeing the nazis. Why would they do this.

Yeah, that was certainly a choice.

When it comes to magic-based fiction that's set in the "real world" or even just stuff that uses secret societies or advanced technology, you generally have to be willing to not think about the way these things should have changed history. It's just part of the standard suspension of disbelief requirements needed to enjoy these genres. If you can't do that - and it's fine if you can't! - then these types of stories aren't for you the same way that dark romance isn't for me.

For example, I once saw someone getting upset about the North American miracle box being in the hands of someone clearly tied to the indigenous population because it meant that the previous guardians could have stopped colonization, but didn't, and it's like, I get where you're coming from, but I think you're taking this a little too seriously. You can't enjoy shows like Miraculous if you try to take them that seriously and that goes for shows aimed at adults, too! The genre generally doesn't support that level of realism.

However, that defense only works if the show keeps itself removed from actual history. Once you include real-world political elements like Joan of Arc - who is famous for her involvement in France's war against England - or World War Two imagery, then you're asking your audience to think about that stuff, which is a terrible idea! Miraculous is not deep enough to support that level of scrutiny! Keep the setting modern and make any past Chosen tied to things that didn't really happen! There was no reason to hint at WWII. It adds nothing of value to the show. If anything, it detracts from the show because why would Fu have time to stop and help while he's running away from Nazis? Why wouldn't he get involved if the guardians had an established history of messing with European politics? Which they canonically do since they were around until the 1800's, meaning that Joan could only have a miraculous if they gave it to her since she's from the early 1400's. It would have been so much better if Gabriel had gone to a random time and randomly landed in front of Fu's shop, allowing Ladybug and Chat Noir to duck inside on a seemingly normal day.

First I checked up on a couple of LPs I have been thinking about. I want a copy of Joan Baez "Diamonds and Rust". Back in Uni my audio buddy and I listened to that one a lot. It was his copy. I still remember the sound. I want one of my own to listen too with my current system.

On his old system ARC SP3a1 preamp, HK Citation 12 amp, Advent speakers (there was only one model). It was warm and rich and resonant. There was this one cut I remember an amazing piano sound with that LP.

The other LP is maybe perhaps a gourmet copy of Famous Blue Raincoat by Jennifer Warnes. I have two copies of consumer grade pressings. There are some old ones kicking about. IMPEX made one of those fancy box issues which costs three digits and even though I really like the record that is too much money.

I found a less fancy Impex issue, but it is sold out. Discogs has some but..... Damn what the market can bear is quite a lot sometimes.

OK lets just check out the CAM listings. No duty and usually no tax, but shipping can be a bitch for heavy stuff. I seem to like stuff that is heavy. Hey there are some interesting amplifiers.

This one caught my eye.

It is a Pioneer M 25. Dual mono check, that is good. It looks really cool to me. It is 150 Watts full tilt, but is high bias and runs Class A up to a few Watts. She is very handsome to me. It is not very unreasonable at just over $1k, but from a dealer that promises free shipping coast to coast from Ontario. (That is at least $100 bucks). It was a statement amp for Pioneer back in the day. Really tempting, mostly because of the look, dammit.

Oh it's harmless to keep looking right.

Just look for amplifiers under $1100 and there are hundreds. (No tube amps worth looking at that price for sure)

Oh, what is this?

These are Audio Research DS450s. 450 Watt per channel stereo. The owner used them mono into the second ugliest speakers I ever saw. He wants $4700 for the pair original cost $18k. So one for $2350? They are solid state. According to ARCDB they are quasi Class D? That is interesting from a technical perspective.

The ARCDB description notes the power supply is conventional linear with big transformers and Capacitors. I doubt those tiny class D amps can actually work as I do not see how small switching power supplies can put out enough amps. I mean the wires are tiny too. Normal speakers need amps more than volts to work right. But here the output circuit is high current switching. And ARC brags they make everything in house rather than buy "modules" from you know where. So efficient, and ampere heavy.

Too damn expensive for this human, but I am intrigued. Leave it to ARC to avoid the Switching Power supply and have a heavy and expensive iron hunk in the front. I think that is confirmation that of my suspicion there is a fundamental flaw in Class D tiny amps.

I find it amazing the price on much of this stuff. I mean it is just for a stereo after all.

I also find it amazing that reviewers spew so much ignorance about the stuff they criticize. Regarding the big ARC I read a man who praised all the other amps ARC made as "Class A". Obviously confusing the type of circuit with some "class" of quality. He also thought that the aluminum case was for shielding RFI from getting into the amp, but with 400khz switching frequency, it was probably shielded to keep stuff in.

It is fun to explore the listings. I have found treasure from time to time.

Fanfic / fan author ask game: 5 and 30 please ✨✨

I'm finding this months later, I'm so sorry. Somehow I forgot that the "Inbox" was a thing? Oops.

Anyway, if I remember well it was for this Ask meme! (Hopefully I remember well, or I'll just be answering the wrong questions... oops².)

5. What’s something you learned while researching a fic?

I learnt MANY things while researching for stories! But I think the most impactful was when I was researching for my Narumitsu magnum opus, Ardebat Sed Non Comburebatur. The story is an AU (that ends partially rooted in canon by the end) in which Phoenix Wright is an actual phoenix, the immortal firebird. He lives through different eras, all of them quite cruel, and I ended up researching a lot about how people have tortured/killed other people throughout the ages. This was... disturbing. French wikipedia has a particularly complete page on execution methods. It made me a little sick. I actually had to get away from the computer for a while after reading about the death of Joan of Arc : they burnt her three times, and the description is particularly gruesome.

ANYWAY I also learnt something very important: it's extremely dangerous to research too much. First, because you learn this type of facts that you'd rather ignore. And second, because all this time spent researching is spent NOT writing! Researching and accuracy is important, but it shouldn't be detrimental to the actual writing of the story. I made this mistake a lot and I'm trying to get better now. (It's hard.)

30. Have you noticed your style change over time?

Not really in the past 10 years. 10 years ago, my style underwent a MASSIVE change when I decided I wanted to improve my writing of (original) short stories (in French.) I worked a lot on that, and at some point tried to write one short story per week. It made my storytelling easier to read, I think, by trying to follow the rule of Keep It Simple Stupid. No super long sentence. Jump into the mind of the character. Add TONS of indirect speech. Hook the reader in and make him feel. "Show don't tell". All that stuff.

Then I tried writing many different things. I had my "Daily Shorts" in English for a while, one micro-story a day on Instagram, which forced me to be super efficient in my wording and the way I set scenes. I had my blog in French for everything stream of consciousness.

Moving to fanfiction probably impacted my style, because you don't write the same when you use someone else's universe. You don't need as much time to set the scene: your readers know what's happened, who the characters are. You can just jump in. I wouldn't be able to say how my style changed!

That said, I'm afraid I haven't read enough different things in the past ten years. So while my style still changes over the kind of things I write (and the language in which I write them) I'm afraid it has stagnated a little "in general". Maybe it's just that I settled for something I'm comfortable with. It wouldn't take much to kickstart new exercises in style, but that's not something I'm tempted to do right now. I'm definitely keeping it for later writing adventures though!

history

Born in the regular world, Jordan grew up in Brooklyn, New York. He lived in an orphanage with various other kids for a while, never having known his real parents. He later moved out and was able to get a small apartment a few blocks away. Whenever he wasn’t at his job, he was spending time drawing in his sketchbook or walking around petting some stray cats and dogs or playing games or riding around on his bicycle. The latter activity would end up being the last thing he really did in that world he was so used to. While riding on his bike under sunny skies, Jordan was having a rather normal day that would end up turning into the craziest adventure ever. He, uh, couldn’t really describe how it happened. But he just sort of—well, went through a portal?

It definitely was a fell down the rabbit hole type of situation, except imagine the clumsiest guy you’ve ever seen in your life. A domino effect that involved Jordan flipping off his bike, falling on his face, and the bike landing right on top of him, all while multiple strangers were watching him. A few people asked if he was alright and then there were some instinctual laughs from others, but otherwise they didn’t seem that surprised by his sudden presence.

Jordan had somehow stumbled upon – and stumbled was an understatement – an almost sci-fi looking city that he’d only ever imagined from books or seen in movies. He was bewildered, looking around in complete awe, confused at how he ended up there. But also where was there exactly? It didn’t take long for someone wrangle him up and start to explain that he was in a place called Hiraeth. And Jordan was like the awkward standing person emoji while listening, nodding a few times while his mouth was just partly open. A lot of ohhhs and woahs and okay yeahs coming from him. Meanwhile he couldn’t remember most of what was said to him then, in all honesty.

It was definitely a learning curve, being in a whole new world and having to kind of relearn a lot of stuff. He was fascinated though, trying to take in everyone’s stories and the like. That was around three months ago, and Jordan has now made the choice of being a Virtue along with being a Pawn under that umbrella. A green ID that previously marked him as a Tyro has been replaced with more of a goldish looking one. Working at Frenchie’s as a server, Jordan has been taking it one day at a time, continuing to get used to this new life. He has started doing art again too, sketching or painting various buildings or nature areas or people, cherishing the beauty of what is around him.

Joan(Jaune) had a quandary on her hands. She had opened the box that had been addressed to her. Inside she found two sets of shoes and several packages of clothes. Well five clear plastic wrapped sets actually. Four where standard slightly modified Beacon female uniforms. Blouse, skirt, blazer, socks.

The fifth was significantly... different. Joan(Jaune) liked the fifth one. It had a certain allure to it. There was even a card with it!

"Welcome to Beacon Ms Arc. I hope you have an enjoyable time with us. The Beacon uniforms are dull, so after speaking with Mrs Cotta-Arc I was able to assemble something I hope is more to your liking." -- Sincerely Headmaster Ozpin

"I think I like this outfit better." Joan(Jaune) whispered to herself, a sly grin on her face. "And I know just the accessories for it!"

"Joan(Jaune) we're going to be late!" Glynda called out as she finished touching up her hair. "Aren't you dressed... WHAT ARE YOU WEARING???

Joan(Jaune) shot her Aunt a Cheshire grin as she posed in the doorway to her room. Joan(Jaune) was almost in a complete copy of Glynda's own outfit, except for the fact Joan(Jaune) was wearing what looked like tailored black pants, instead of a skirt. Very well tailored pants. They hung perfectly, clinging in just the right places.

The outfit was topped with a tasteful white blouse, and a black corset type vest, that gave Joan(Jaune)'s lackluster chest a needed boost. Then of course there were the accessories. A pair of black wire rim cat's eye glasses, and what had to be at least four inch high stiletto heeled calf high black boots.

"You like?" Joan(Jaune) asked a huge smile on her face. Glynda was getting a headache. She knew exactly who had snuck this outfit into the order she had made for Joan(Jaune). "Well?"

"You look good Joan(Jaune). You do, but... the glasses? The heels?"

"The glasses i can toss, not that I need them, but the heels..." her voice grew dark, and sinister, a scowl crossing her once happy features.

"Joan(Jaune)?" Glynda asked a little shocked at the sudden emotional shift in her niece.

"Were a gift from Saph an d Terra. No one touches them!" Joan(Jaune) hissed. Yes actually hissed.

"I was just..."

Glynda was cut off as Joan(Jaune) strutted past her with perfect poise and balance. Grabbing the attaché case Glynda had given her last night, and without any sign of faltering or flaw in stride, Was out the door.

"Joan(Jaune) wait up!" Glynda called after her. "We have a staff meeting first!"

After a forty minute staff meeting, that really could have been handled in ten minutes, or even better and email. Joan(Jaune) followed her Aunt into her first class of the day. The bustle and hum of active conversations abated as Joan(Jaune) watched her Aunt take center stage.

"Attention class! I am Professor Goodwitch, and this is your designated Combat Class." Her voice was strong and powerful. Commanding respect and attention. Joan(Jaune) half listened, as she tried to determine how she too could get the type of voice her mom and Aunt both used so easily.

Pyrrha had tuned out Professor Goodwitch's opening speech, to focus on her inner turmoil. She noticed the person who entered with the Professor, and recognized them instantly. That was were her current crisis was focused, as her mind fractured and began arguing with itself.

"She's a babe!" voice one.

"Don't be stupid. He's a dude." voice two.

"Are you sure. I think those are boobs." Voice three.

"I don't think they are." Voice four.

"I swear to you all NOW. That is a girl! Look at the clothes, the bust, those hips, THAT ASS!" Voice one.

"I agree with the ass, but I don't a bust. So I'm going with a dude." Voice two.

"Eh? Guys can wear feminine styled clothes just as much as girls can were masculine stuff. So that argument doesn't work, but yeah those are boobies. Girl."

"You guys need your eyes checked. Ass yes. Hips okay, yeah, clothes... don't care. Boobs? Don't see any. That's a Guy."

"You are all shitheads! That is a fucking girl!" voice one.

"Watch the gods damn language! there could be kids around her!" voice two.

"Seriously. Kids. In our own head?" voice three.

"Listen, it looks like an introduction is going to happen. Let's hear the name, and then we can have our sexual identity crisis after. Sound like a plan?" voice four.

"Okay." the three other voices agreed.

"Now as you can see their is a charming young woman who has accompanied me to this class. She is Joan(Jaune) Arc, my niece and will be serving as my Teaching Assistant." Glynda continued to address the class, her very tone forcing compliance and attention for everyone, well almost everyone.

"YOU'RE A FUCKING GIRL????" Pyrrha Nikos shot to her feet, her face a blazing red.

"Ms Nikos!" Glynda started to reprimand the four time champion only for Joan(Jaune) to decide she need a piece of the action.

"Is that a problem?" Joan(Jaune) snapped "Do you not believe your eyes? What is it my tits? Yeah, that's all your huntsmen and huntresses focus on. Big honking hooters!"

"Joan(Jaune) enough!" Glynda tried to regain control, but as soon as Joan(Jaune) started to rant, she knew the only way to regain control was to use "the glare"

"You know what I got, that is better than sweater stretchers? DO you?" Joan(Jaune) continued to rant, her eyes focused directly in Pyrrha. "Well Ms Nikos, do you?"

"I have this!" Joan(Jaune) twisted about popped her hips and gave her own behind a hard smack, causing the sound of flesh striking flesh to echo about the room. "I have an ASS that can beat yours any day of the week!"

Glynda pulled unleashed "the Glare" just as the room burst into chaos, and Ms Nikos promptly fainted, overcome a whirlwind of confusing thoughts and arguing voices that filled her mind.

"Everyone! Sit! NOW!" Once order was restored, Glynda instructed Joan(Jaune) to escort Ms Nikos and her team to the infirmary. Before Joan(Jaune) could complain, Glydna added. "This is your mess. You started it. You end it... civilly!"

"Yes, auntie." Joan(Jaune) sulked for the whole trip.

BACKGROUND: 

Born in the regular world, Jordan grew up in Brooklyn, New York. He lived in an orphanage with various other kids for a while, never having known his real parents. He later moved out and was able to get a small apartment a few blocks away. Whenever he wasn’t at his job, he was spending time drawing in his sketchbook or walking around petting some stray cats and dogs or playing games or riding around on his bicycle. The latter activity would end up being the last thing he really did in that world he was so used to. While riding on his bike under sunny skies, Jordan was having a rather normal day that would end up turning into the craziest adventure ever. He, uh, couldn’t really describe how it happened. But he just sort of—well, went through a portal?

It definitely was a fell down the rabbit hole type of situation, except imagine the clumsiest guy you’ve ever seen in your life. A domino effect that involved Jordan flipping off his bike, falling on his face, and the bike landing right on top of him, all while multiple strangers were watching him. A few people asked if he was alright and then there were some instinctual laughs from others, but otherwise they didn’t seem that surprised by his sudden presence.

Jordan had somehow stumbled upon – and stumbled was an understatement – an almost sci-fi looking city that he’d only ever imagined from books or seen in movies. He was bewildered, looking around in complete awe, confused at how he ended up there. But also where was there exactly? It didn’t take long for someone wrangle him up and start to explain that he was in a place called Hiraeth. And Jordan was like the awkward standing person emoji while listening, nodding a few times while his mouth was just partly open. A lot of ohhhs and woahs and okay yeahs coming from him. Meanwhile he couldn’t remember most of what was said to him then, in all honesty.

It was definitely a learning curve, being in a whole new world and having to kind of relearn a lot of stuff. He was fascinated though, trying to take in everyone’s stories and the like. That was around three months ago, and Jordan has now made the choice of being a Virtue along with being a Pawn under that umbrella. A green ID that previously marked him as a Tyro has been replaced with more of a goldish looking one. Working at Frenchie’s as a server, Jordan has been taking it one day at a time, continuing to get used to this new life. He has started doing art again too, sketching or painting various buildings or nature areas or people, cherishing the beauty of what is around him.

BACKGROUND: 

As the youngest child of Torrance Sinclair, one of Hiraeth’s vice kings, Laurie enjoyed the upper-class society her family flaunted about in. It was what she was used to, even if that did result in her being spoiled growing up. Hanging out in penthouses that their parents paid for or hanging out with so-called friends who really only stuck around because of their affluent statuses. The family was pretty much a mirror image of what Vice was meant to be. Powerful and prestigious with some chaos sprinkled in too. But despite seemingly having everything, she and her brothers lacked something that could’ve changed how their childhood was if they had it: love. That may have sounded dramatic but the truth was lingering.

Their father was strict, ruling with an iron fist and thinking that status and power were really the only things that were important. Then there was their mother who never really cared much about the children or she at least did a horrible job at showing otherwise. Parental affection was basically non-existent, the children a product of the environment their parents constructed. Laurie focused on trying to make them proud for a long time despite all of this. Got fairly good grades, was popular in school, things like that. But they still didn’t seem to give her accomplishments the time of day.

Torrance’s attention tended to be more on the oldest brother Kol instead, leaving her and Jaren more to the side, barely in frame at all. Out of the two, ambition was strived for more by Laurie. While she liked to party and hit the clubs sometimes, there was still focus on doing well at the university too. Or she tried, at least. During her last semester, Laurie’s grades had started to drop a bit. She was distracted, starting to stress out about what would happen after all of this. Would all of it be for nothing? Would her parents still not really care? Hell, the girl could end up at the podium making the graduation speech for her class and they still may not even be sitting at the audience at all. Nevertheless, she persisted.

After Laurie succeeded in graduating from the university, she chose Vice without a second thought and became a Diamond too. Her occupation kind of ranges from socialite to model to influencer, stuff like that. Her persona toward strangers and even just to people she knows usually isn’t a surprise to anyone. It usually is the collective conclusion of people being like oh, you’re exactly how I imagined you’d be. You’d have to ask those people themselves to know whether that’s meant as a compliment or not.

i watched the passion of joan of arc today.

incredible film, one of the best ever, every shot is incredibly pretty, it feels rather soviet-inspired in a way, at least from what i know, a lot of the editing and montage stuff, the extreme closeups. god, it moves like little else, and it's really what i'm interested in seeing with these silent films, where it really gets at a more out there notion of grammar/narrative arrangement, a lot of them do give me that because they're so distant but there is a way they make sense as well, this feels shocking still, the scene where she bleeds, both in its place among images, and as image, the way the shots of her face, her expressions, and the performance on display too, no other performance like it on earth, they all add up and you cannot prevent yourself from crying as she does, and when she's on the scaffold we really are the carnival, the crowd, we are there knowing her to be sainted and condemned by the hierarchy of the church, of faith which seeks symbols that can be made sense of, the cold logic, and then the heat of believing, or maybe most root, of affirming life, the passion. so often she says "oui", and that ending, i can't believe the explosion of the people, the violence, the soldiers beating people, how it's as much an explosion within the film's way of operating. it's so much. of course, the presence of artaud in the film as an actor, seeing him realize what has happened, his gentler style of asking her why, what these things mean, his face upon realizing what has happened and that failure, his face, my god, maybe him being really beautiful helps this along but he made me cry and feel as much as she did, maybe with the force of his work behind him, god. and the sets in the film, i want to read up on how it was made and things, becuz i wonder if it's pointedly not trying to draw attention to those places, to have them be white negative spaces with odd shadows, an almost more expressionist approach with some of the shots... i dunno... a lot to think about with this film, it's just massively important... it's so beautiful... it's achingly beautiful, truly truly achingly beautiful.

any more thoughts on dennis cooper's new book?... not particularly... wish i wuz smarter. well here's a quotation i marked when i finished up the book, that i neglected to post (this is how it appears in the book sans caps):

" 'forgot about world existing around you. you can change yourself into infinity, but still get the changes to the location from where you left. may i know who you are and where do you live?' there is no real description on whats going through my head at the moment. all i can say, someone will get hurt."

writing it out, what's striking me now is that he uses this kind of broken person freaked out online type writing as well as extremely, pointedly, literary, ways of speaking which draw attention to the gaps in what they can express, it feels especially the focus of the internet people ones that he's trying to get at this blanchot type thing, the failure of thought, the impossibility of constancy, of any 'self', these people even when stuck place, doing single things, feeling terrible and lost, well they are lost, impossible to find in the first place. it's odd. there's no beginning with some of these characters, they are not, they just do, but their relation to themselves and even their actions is pretty, well, they're alien to it, that they exist, they could not smell themselves, ghosts of their own lives. which is less about some emotional thing, some tragedy of that, everything is imbued with tragic character here so it's not special in that way, it's more like, i don't want to say deep, maybe it's the opposite, it's not about it being sad or messed up that people feel that way, it's that they are that way, that there's this impossibility at all levels, where something strange gets admitted, which is why i marked that quotation, you can change yourself into infinity. who are you. where do you live. there is no description. it's not flowery for the sake of it, it is pointedly about dissolving any linear sense. i guess in a sense it's an effort at montage in text almost? it gives that feeling though it is quite contrary to montage in that it's not images cycling together to produce something else... it's admission that thoughts give up on themselves, that this is their own articulation, that moment to moment , us caught in the vicious circle, there's these shifts, inconstant hearts, and when caught up in atrocity... then what??? in the story gold, where a father fucks his kid, and it's revealed he was similarly fucked and was this popstar boy and how painful it is to not be what he was, that pain isn't like sharp, or dull even, it's diffuse it's just a lamentation that can't complete itself or know itself. it happens with the everything else, awfulness is partially an avalanche, as much as being someone who wants to die online, it's all this nightmare avalanche thing.

this is why he is such an excellent writer!!

new word to me: propaedeutic, a kind of preparatory study for something, introductory studies, introduction to things... but especially study i suppose.

only a few pages into stricture, i am liking it, it has a hurried quality that recalls how lispector can write. so far she is just imagining herself being abducted by aliens, in an orderly and pleasant way almost, convinced of them, packing for it, sitting and waiting, thinking about her routine and the escape from that. she is a child, now, i imagine she will stop being a child at some point.
