Major Monogram from Phineas and Ferb is a fascinating accidental example of unjust biases stemming from ignorance and laziness instead of intentional harm in the ‘species-ism’ that is a root of injustice in the PnF universe. In this essay I will
#okay but like actually#he treats a lot of the agents shitty#especially early on#because he considers himself to be a ‘higher species’#“What is this- pick on the higher species day?#(quote from the hr scene in La-candance-cabra#and even as employees he treats them poorly#but it’s literally just because he’s terrible at his job#mans wanted to be an acrobat#he’s not qualified to learn how to manage a bunch of animals with sentience and bank accounts#or at least#he doesn’t think he is#so he doesn’t try#for most of the snow#he just kinda sits around and complains about his job#but we know he experiences character development at some point in the future#because he goes bowling with Perry and Doof#suggesting he views Perry as an equal#so we know he’s capable of it#just in the future#but in present moment he’s simply refusing to educate himself#and idk I just think it’s a fascinating example of how ignorance can be harmful#and why we should try our best to learn about others differences#phineas and ferb#perry the platypus#agent p#owca#major monogram

aro culture is rehearsing how to come out big brain style, anticipating every single possible reaction and how to respond to them all but i got so tired doing that i decided not to come out LOL how does one come out with a full FAQ list anyway TToTT
honestly it's literally not possible. it's like trying to tailor a resume for each job you apply for. don't. if there's clear categories maybe make variants for those, but like. it's not worth it.

Never getting over Fulcrum being a project manager...
Idk why, but something about that is so funny to me. Not just because the title of "project manager" is inherently kinda funny for a Decepticon, but also because-
1. It's vague sounding and hard to explain irl because it technically exists in multiple fields, like healthcare or manufacturing, which surely translates into canon in some way.
2. In canon, it's simultaneously a really mundane, innocuous sounding job, yet it's also a super morally awful position to reside over depending on the context. (*cough* forced colonization and cyberforming *cough*)
And 3. It solidifies the fact that behind all the surface level militaristic work we get with both the Decepticons and Autobots, there's also Cons and Bots with "normal" jobs in both factions.
Like, sure yeah we get scientists and doctors, engineers and programmers, but usually in big important or warfront positions. (For plot reasons, understandably.) But it's also really funny and interesting to think of those that worked background positions, or minor jobs.
Like an Autobot working in their equivalent of an HR department, or a Decepticon who runs one of their outpost's or starship's kitchens.
Just all the pre-war jobs that didn't just disappear with the war, but instead evolved to exist within the factions.
It's particularly funny with the Decepticons though, because it could be a super mundane job or situation, but because it's them, it has to have an air of ~e v i l~ to it, either legitimately and/or merely for the vibes, like Tarn's "performance reviews".
#theres this one comedy thing. a think its from that like. puppet comedian dude??? cant remember the name rn-#-buts theres a bit about a person in the crowd being a project manager and how silly the job sounds#at some point the person the project manager is with gets pointed out when the comedian asks smth along the lines of-#-''is he a project you're managing? he looks pretty managed to me.'' smth smth. thats fulcrum and the scavs to me#idw fulcrum#fulcrum#mtmte#tf idw#idw tarn#tarn#transformers#maccadam#Decepticons being cartoonishly evil while doing mundane shit will never not be funny to me#'i need to send an evil email to my evil boss about an evil supply chain issue involving my evil workers evil rations and evil mail'#<- fulcrum#sorry. yes he is a tragic yet simultaneously silly guy. but i will never not shut up about his stupid awful job#''he's a project manager!'' oh yay :D! ''he's overseeing the destruction and forced cyberformation of a whole planet'' ...what#not saying he deserved being turned into a bomb. but i think a solid uhh maybe 1000+ organics get a free chance to spit on him or smth#get his ass lmao. i swear hes one of my favs. its just he is objectively an asshole. and i must speak on it bcs i love him#sort of unrelated. but along the same vein of jobs and positions in the Decepticons. ive been trying to puzzle out Krok and Fulcrum's ranks#and. it might not be accurate. idk what sort of ranking system bullshit is going on in canon. so im going off what i know#but. im figuring krok was some sort of warrant-esque officer? aka. he was a general solider. who worked his way up through skill to NCO-#-then specialized in strategy to the point of becoming a warrant officer for strategy and studies. so. higher than NCO but lower than CO#so on the other hand. fulcrum is a CO. bcs he wasnt a solider. he was a technician. but also in advanced management. so. CO???#for irl comparison. NCO/Warrant = worked towards over time from low ranks. CO = fast tracked bcs of formal education or smth#(take the irl comparison with a grain of salt. im not an expert on that shit. i just considered becoming a CO bcs of pressure once)#((CO in this context stands for commissioned officer. not commanding officer btw. so. its like management shit))#(not that i think cons have commissions or anything. just using the terminology as a place holder or smth ig)#who outranks who is debatable bcs canon doesn't specify rank. but if going off this as a basis. fulc would outrank krok by a technicality#but. assumedly. battle experience is seen as more impressive and noteworthy to cons. so its more likely krok outranked fulc bcs of that

I love vampires so much and my "university education" must answer for why it's eating away so much of my time for reading vampire novels
#my ideal way to read a book for fun is to have a stretch of 4-5 days where I have no responsibilities#and can instead clock into the book reading factory like it's my full time job#believe it or not this is somewhat difficult to achieve whilst attending an institution of higher education#(when I binged through tlt last summer the dish situation at my house reached. potentially criminalizable levels.)#marina marvels at life#vampires

Time for my regularly scheduled reminder - DON'T GET A PHD!!!!
So I run a job board for PhDs who are trying to find work outside academia (because the academic job market is a fucking shit-show)
To promote my board, I spend a lot of time on LinkedIn engaging with folks who are in that situation (PhDs trying to find non-academic employment). And I just came across this particularly demoralizing post
I think this person has the right attitude about this. And I obviously don't think there's anything wrong with cleaning houses to make money.
But like...imagine earning a PhD, spending more than a year unsuccessfully job hunting, then giving up to do work that doesn't even require a high school diploma.
And granted, this is a fairly extreme example. But still.
DON'T GET A PHD. I cannot stress enough how much you should not try to go into academia as a career.

The toll from the chaos surrounding the Trump administration’s reduction or suspension of financial support for university research, particularly through the National Institutes of Health, continues to mount. An increasing number of research universities have recently announced they would be trimming their budgets, freezing new hiring, or pulling back on Ph.D. admissions because of concerns over federal funding constraints. They join other major institutions — such as Northwestern University, MIT, Washington State University, North Carolina State University, and Columbia University’s Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons — that have previously indicated they would pause some spending or hiring due to the federal cutbacks...

Applying for my Master's in gender studies kind of feels like shooting myself in the foot, but then again, it's not a useless discipline if it's being systematically censored and erased.
#not sure what research i could offer that has actual value#like i'm not doing scientific or health-related research. i'm not an engineer like all my relatives lol#i just like to think... and theorize..... what happened to all the theorists and philosophers?#seems like nowadays there's no point to grad school unless you're doing something stem or business related#annoying as fuck really.#i thought very hard about information technology and there's still time. i just have such a passion for gender/queer studies#too bad there aren't any programs that are just focused on queer/trans studies :)))))#and gender studies programs are at risk of being shut down. so that's awesome.#i still have some thinking to do....... because i don't want to shoot myself in the foot#like do i really want to work in higher education? do i reeeeally?#at the risk of sounding very arrogant i will say i'm not worried about my application if and when i do it#because i was easily the top student in my undergrad program and i have my current job to show for it#i've got great references and writing samples. just need a more concise idea for a research project...

If my prof ever decides to ever speak about her experience with my academy, it would probably be an international gaffe.
Which I kind of hope that happens because something bad has to happen for the Direction(useless bucnch of people) to wake tf up...
#steel rambles#i am sorry for the prof#If she decides to do something drastic I wholeheartedly approve#well I like her and admire her tooo much anyway she could set me on fire and I'd go “hell yeah art aaaaaargh”#but she wouldn't set me on fire#she has too much patience#the exams with her will be an utter massacre#and I mean a small group and I don't have to worry about it because we did our job and all#but for the rest#and like i know the situation was peculiar and why my classmates were put off#but#BUT#but fkn hell at least don't annoy those who want to follow the lesson#so anyway#I need to finish this bunch of exams too my god i need the summer break#I'm just mad I won't finish them all a month early as I planned but i will either give the last one in July or September if i fail#which is unlikely#but i am ready for the possibility#tho it's not the best option since i want to have my vacation sjhfjgjhhkhk#and a good grade to accompany it :)#rule of thumb accept everything over 27 and 25 and 26 too if the exams are hard or the professors are assholes#some things at uni are sadly not in your power unless you change prof or proceed legally#so accept that damn 28 even tho you want to spit in the professor's face#(the max is 30 or 30+laude)#which is dumb#but aight ig#this kind of grading in a “higher education” setting is ineffective and inefficient but i digress

sorry to send an ask about such an old post (loved it by the way!!!), but do you have any citations for charles' education history? (tumblr dot com / racefortheironthrone / 650366189549338624)
its kind of become a running joke among charles obsessives (theres dozens of us! dozens!) that he's actually just adding degrees to a list whenever he needs to seem qualified 😭 bc he's always assigned this long list of degrees, but its so hard to find individual confirmations of them in the text! and even when you think you've found one, there's a detail that contradicts a different supposed confirmation. but he IS clearly, to reference your stellar phrasing, superfluously educated
thanks! + thank you for sharing a perspective on 616 charles that is interested in who he is as a person — we desperately need more of that 🥲
Hi, not a problem - always happy to chat about Xavier and X-stuff.
I got the info about his educational background from the Marvel wikia (which is a very handy resource for anyone who's into X-stuff, btw), so I would look to the footnotes there.
It's possible that Xavier's engaged in credential fraud; that happens quite a bit in elite higher education. As I said in the post, however, I think it's more likely that:
"Charles has difficulty with social interactions, because he didn’t have much in common with his chronological peer group and spent a lot of his life in a bubble of other academics."
As a coping mechanism for his social awkwardness, he became a perpetual student and then a perpetual academic, so that he could stay in his bubble and avoid having to grow as a person by interacting with people with different backgrounds and life experiences.
And this tendency is quite common in the Marvel Universe: T'challa has 5 PhDs, Hank McCoy has 6 PhDs, Reed Richards has 18!
Now from a Doylist perspective, this is just due to the fact that comic book writers don't understand or care about the economics of academia and are just looking for a simple way to communicate "this character is a genius."
But from a Watsonian perspective and an insider perspective, it suggests a lack of self-confidence and sense of direction, such that rather than going out on the job market, getting a job and having to show their intellectual community that they can drive a coherent research agenda, these people just want to stay in the psychological womb of studenthood where they can keep trying to "find themselves" with disconnected dissertations in different fields.
