I think the Journeyman Project is probably the most realistic portrayal of alien contact I've seen in media. The aliens will come in peace and most people will be like "fuck yeah aliens", but there's always going to be that one asshole who's watched too much sci-fi and thinks that the "Symbiotry of Peaceful Beings" is CLEARLY a dastardly alien plot and takes it upon himself to start the interplanetary war for them

The story takes place in the future, years after Earth has established relations with an extraterrestrial race, the Dragids from the planet Zoreclya. Young Cole Marquez enlists in the Bureau of Galactic Security (BGS), and is mobilized to locate and arrest a Dragid-human hybrid, ex-agent Bryan Agramonte, who has been tampering with Zoreclyan and Earthling technology. Cole's investigation leads him to the abandoned and derelict Nova Research Center for Robotics, said to be inhabited by a sentient artificial intelligence created by Dr. Joseph Cladwell. This AI being, the wisecracking Sophia, guides him through a procedure to transfer her consciousness into a bio-android body, convincing him to allow her to aid in his mission. They track Agramonte to the Museum of Terrestrial and Extraterrestrial History, where he gracefully surrenders, though he also delivers a cryptic warning.

After bringing him in, Cole and Sophia learn that Agramonte was trying to stop a mysterious alien fleet which is heading towards Earth to find an ancient crystal Annunaki relic known as the Gift of Enki. The Zoreclyan ambassador, Yorra, identifies the aliens as the Endar, a race that Zoreclya has been at odds with since "that incident in Nuremberg in 1561"; for its protection, the Gift was disassembled, with three shards hidden in three different areas on Earth, while the Dragids hid the forth shard on the Moon. Cole and Sophia resolve to find the remaining shards of the Gift in order to prevent an intergalactic war, and Yorra gives them coordinates to their locations before she sends for the shard on the Moon to be brought to Earth.

The duo first travel in a miniature airship to the catacombs of Rome, where they learn that the first shard was known as the Philosopher's stone. After finding it, Cole and Sophia are confronted by Vados, an Endar mercenary sent after them to steal the shards. Escaping Vados, they fly to South America.

In Machu Picchu, Sophia is mistaken for a goddess and kidnapped by inhabitants of the hidden city of Akakor. Giving pursuit, Cole discovers that they are in possession of the second shard. Noticing this as well, Sophia steals the shard and escapes before she is forcibly wed to Akakor's prince. Reuniting, Cole and Sophia travel to Japan to obtain the final shard.

On Mount Osore, Vados ambushes them and steals what he assumes to be the third shard, trapping them underground. However, they discover a secret passageway to a hidden chamber, where Lianna, an ancient Dragid warrior, guards the true final shard. She allows them to take the shard and leads them back to the surface. Together, the three return to the Bureau, where they assemble the Gift.

Meanwhile, the Endar mother ship reaches Earth. As the Endar storm the Bureau to seize the Gift, it magically opens an interdimensional gateway to admit the Annunaki goddess Ninmah, who declares that, because of Cole's heroic deeds, humanity shall become the heir of the Annunaki legacy. As Ninmah departs, Vados and the other Endar soldiers unmask to reveal themselves as a close relative of the Dragids.

A few days later, Agramonte has been reinstated into the BGS and met an Endar woman, while Cole is now an official member, with Sophia as his partner. Together, they head out on another adventure.

The Journeyman Project 3 Legacy of Time is a sci-fi first person live action adventure game developed by Presto Studios and published by Red Orb Entertainment for Windows and Mac.

The Journeyman Project 3 Legacy of Time is the final entry in the The Journeyman Project trilogy released from 1993 to 1998. The fill trilogy would be released together in 1999 with a 10th anniversary edition releasing in 2009 on Mac.

this immediately made me think of Artie from The Journeyman Project 3: Legacy of Time. Please tell me someone else remembers this game, it was the best.

This little asshole, Arthur the AI from Journeyman Project 3, is who you have to blame for why I speak in like 50% pop culture references. Because I was obsessed with this game as a kid, and this guy had basically three forms of dialogue; infodumping, pop culture references, and sarcasm, usually in some mixture of the three. And he is your main companion in the game, so you hear him a lot. And I picked up on it, A LOT.
