Mag 35 - Old Passages
Harold Silvana, 04.06.2002, Pall Mall, London.
Harold worked in restoration and had been hired to work on the basement and ground floor of the Reform club - the work was supposed to be minimal, but due to the fragility of the building they had to take extra care in the work, which meant that it stretched into a week-long gig. They also had to schedule for strange hours because the venue was constantly busy.
At 2am one morning a teenager showed up. Harold was alone with his coworker Rachel Turley, and their other colleague Alfred Bartlett was out getting coffee. In leaving, he’d likely left the door open, and while Rachel and Harold stood chatting they noticed a thin figure in the doorway. He asked them if they’d found any of “Leitner’s pages” yet. This shocked them as they’d just been talking about Leinter as a businessman - who asked for consultation in his offices in pall mall in 1987. He had asked them to dig a hole in his office, and had shouted them out of the building when they stated they needed the building owner’s permission.
The teenager (later revealed to be Gerard) knocks out a fake wall, and the four of them eventually decide to investigate. The tunnels looked to be mid-19th century, and they realised it likely connected to where Jurgen had wanted them to dig. They came to a central chamber with 13 corridors, plus the one they’d come down. One felt like they were going to fall into it, one was incredibly dark, in the centre of the chamber was a datestone. It read “Robert Smirke, 1835, Balance and Fear”.
Suddenly, Gerard took off into one of the tunnels, Alfred followed close behind, and the other two soon chased after them. They chased him, only to find him sprinting back in their direction. He evaded them easily and disappeared back the way they came. Aflred screamed in the dark, and Harold noticed small bones clattering to the ground in the corridor. They found Alfred dead in a small room at the end of the corridor. He didn’t seem hurt. On his chest were more tiny bones. They left, calling the cops. Harold thinks he went down other corridors first, he has vague memories of other entities (the spider, the stranger, the dark, the desolation).
Notes: Alfred’s death was listed as a heart attack. Jon discusses Leitner’s reputation and his collection of antique books, and that likely some were stored in his old offices. He also mentions Robert Smirke (an architect)- and that Tim know a lot about him. Smirke’s buildings have a much higher percentage of paranormal sightings than other architects of similar profile. In the post-statement section, Jon leaves to find extinguishers to kill some silver worms, and in his absence Breekon & Hope deliver a zippo lighter with a spider design to Martin to give to Jon. Sasha worked on this case. This is also likely where Gerard got the bone book for his mother.
Entities: All
Names mentioned:
Rachel Turley
Alfred Bartlett
Harold Silvana
Gerard Keay
Mary Keay
Jurgen Leitner
Robert Smirke

I love this hc. My only problem is that Jon met Jurgen. Jon, who overthinks things so much he had a whole season for paranoia. Who once asked Martin if he was a ghost. If there was even a hint of those two looking vaguely similar, Jon would’ve brought out the red string the minute he found out Martin didn’t know who his father was.
However…. Jon probably didn’t find that out until later in the series. And once he had his whole all-knowing thing going on in season five, I could see him offering to tell Martin and Martin saying no. So…
What I’m saying is that if Leinter is Martin’s father, Jon knows.
Mikaele Salesa : *remarks how much Martin looks and acts like a younger Jurgen leitner*
Me, remembering that Martin’s father left when he was like 9, that he’s supposed to look exactly like him, that Leitner is old enough to be his dad and that Martin’s dad left in the 90’s which is around the same time that the leitner library was destroyed and leitner went into hiding:

[Image ID: twelve small patches and one large back patch.
Each patch in order:
1. Four light blue triangles surrounding a black diamond. "I saw seven birds" is writtenin dark blue in the four triangles. In the black diamond, seven red birds fly in a circle. The patch is sewn on with thick red thread.
2. A black city silhouette outlined in white. "ESKEW" is written on the silhouette in white swirling letters that loop into each other in one continuous line.
3. A green house with yellow windows. On the house is written "Hi, you've reached Mabel Mar.." the rest of the text is obscured by swirling gold and green that fills the lower half of the house
4. A purple and black striped light house on a dark blue background. White text next to the lighthouse reads "May you always find your way"
5. A black patch with a frayed fabric border. Written in white rock band font is "I HATE JURGEN LEINTER". The word "Jurgen is enclosed in an eye-like oval silhouette.
6. A pink smartphone with the caller ID displaying "SCAM LIKELY" with little yellow sparkles and vibration/sound lines.
7. One hundred eyes with red pupils in a dark brown circle. Around the edge of the circle is written "Nikignik"
8. A blue ring surrounds a black circle (i dont know if this comes across in the image but its supposed to be like a blue iris and pupil). In the black circle is a silhouette of Juno Steel (a short-haired black ((nonbinary??)) man/lady.) He is wearing a futuristic/avante guard gold gown. In the blue ring is witten "A Vision in Gold".
9. A red square patch with yellow broadway font text that reads "Pryce and Carter's 1001 tips". Stylized yellow planets, stars, and rocket ships surround the text
10. A square patch with the archive 81 s2 logo on it. It is a black complex, occult-looking sigil on a white background.
11: a brown-skinned hand holding a yellow ligtbulb against a teal background. In the fillament of the lightbulb is the word "underwood" written in dark blue cursive
12: a speech bubble saying "There's whisky in the jar!" Coming from a starship sailing through a purple and blue galaxy.
