The various things that Jareth does with the crystal balls (rolling them around his arms and in his hands and so forth) are not camera tricks or any other kind of special effect. They are actually done by choreographer Michael Moschen, who is an accomplished juggler. Moschen was actually crouched behind Bowie with his arm(s) replacing Bowie’s. Unlike a typical Muppet performance, however, he had no video screen to view his performance. Now I know what Akechi's mask is supposed to be, but I gotta be honest, the first thing I thought of when I saw him was a hummingbird...

Like I guess it made sense to me? Hummingbirds are known for their vibrant and bright feathers, which worked with how bright Princekechi's uniform is compared with everyone else's. Hummingbirds are probably one of the most universally beloved species too (I dare you to find someone who hates hummingbirds. You can't.), so again, that fits with how popular and adored by the public his personal image is. Plus, you know, hummingbirds subsist on sweet nectar and sugar. Sweets.

Maybe I'm being too nitpicky toward the graphic novel children's adaptation of Tolkien and Lewis' lives, but also, I can't emphasize enough that logos is not a Latin word. I'll answer the second part first, so the opinions on each captain can stay under the cut - in short, Miele's very attached to the Third, so they spend the majority of their time there trying to be of help as much as possible. However, they're also really fond of some people outside their division, like the girls over at the SWA or Captains Hirako, Komamura and Kyōraku. More on them ->

Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto - “The closest to a good ruler I’ve ever encountered. He seems to take great interest in our military contribution as a special unit. That’s good - must mean he’s not disbanding us anytime soon, neheh.” ;

They see him very rarely, usually for monthly reports about thier contributions as a member of the Cooperative Arrancar Unit. He’s distant, but in a much “healthier” way than late King Baraggan or Aizen. They don’t feel miserable or insignificant in Yamamoto's presence: they cemented his image sitting in his assembly hall like that of a reef’s rock standing firm against the roaring waves. They sense their reverence towards him to come naturally without it being demanded of them, and so vows never to make him regret his decision to establish the Arrancar Unit.

Suì-Fēng: "I'd say... very duty-bound. Kinda scary, considering the Second Division is the one which monitors us Cooperatives...” ;

Another captain who Miele hardly ever meets, although they believe it’s for the best. They know she was one of the least keen on approving the Cooperative Arrancar Program, so they try not to attract her or the Second Division’s attention in any way.

Retsu Unohana: “Oh, Lady Unohana is… so competent, collected… and so beautiful!” ;

A reserved Captain which Miele admires from afar like a rare animal in the wild. They look up to her soft-spoken nature and actively wish they could look as mature and gracious as her. She’s occasionally present at the mandatory check-ups reserved for the Arrancar Unit at the Fourth’s barracks, so they get to chat with her then, though briefly.

Shinji Hirako: "...unpredictable, to say the least. Very informal, looks like he's goofing around a lot but will catch on the tiniest of details, and his eyes are always ...prying. He's so COOL! Captain Hirako is SO COOL! HAVE YOU SEEN HIM STANDING UPSIDE DOWN?! NEH, NEH, HOW COOL IS THAT-" ;

Miele thinks very highly of Shinji, he’s definitely the most approachable of the Captains for them. After all the stories they heard about the Visored (mainly from Rose), they see him like this sort of stylish super-hero who has an answer to anything and just never slips - and when he does, it’s because he’s got a plan. Conversations with him are one of their favorite occurrences: they laugh at all his bad jokes, and get all excited when he suddenly greets them standing upside-down (their favorite trick, never fails to cheer them up). After getting more acquainted, he’s also the one they tend to confer with about matters they aren’t comfortable talking to Rose about.

Byakuya Kuchiki: "SCARY —CAPITAL ‘S’." ;

Another Captain which Miele doesn’t have many occasions to meet. Their idea of nobility stems from Baraggan and Aizen’s examples, so they try to avoid him by default as to not get on his nerves, but just like Yamamoto, Byakuya is different from the rulers they know of… he looks kinda lonely to them.

Sajin Komamura: “…kind. Very kind, yes. I’d love to have tea with him again.” ;

Komamura is a great source of advice for Miele. Since he was also shunned for his nature by other shinigami in his past, he’s of great support when Miele goes through the same thing at the start of their deployment. As a result, they harbor great respect for him, and make sure to visit him often. Not a big fan of his dog Goro though, he gets a bit too loud when Miele’s around.

Shunsui Kyōraku: "Ah, Mister Kyōraku! He's very relaxed all the time - Lady Ise says it's because he's lazy. It's always a pleasure to meet him during walks. If it wasn't for him, I probably would have died of fear the first time I got here, neh!"

Fun fact: he's the only Captain which Miele addresses with "mister" or "sir" rather than "captain". When Miele was brought to the Soul Society from Hueco Mundo to be deployed as Cooperative Arrancar, he was the one overseeing the process and told them to "just call him Mister Kyōraku" to make them feel more at ease. The habit never left, and he doesn't seem to mind. Miele is really grateful for Shunsui's efforts made to establish the unit, and for choosing Rose as their Captain rather than himself. They often find themselves having to decline his invitations for a drink, but other than that, Miele feels very lucky to have met him.

Kensei Muguruma: "... I'll admit his appearance makes him a bit intimidating. I ever hardly see him smile... perhaps he needs a vacation from Lieutenant Kuna, neh?." ;

His very serious looks don’t make him very approachable for Miele, but they feel he’s a good person at heart. With Miele being delicate in nature it’s hard for them to find common ground for conversation, but they’ll never miss the chance to greet him and ask him about their day.

Tōshirō Hitsugaya: "He's ...such an exceptional soldier. I feel so inexperienced in his presence…” ;

Tōshirō was one of the captains who was most opposed to the idea of the Cooperative Arrancar Unit, so he’s not a big fan of having arrancars wander around the Gotei 13. Miele understands that, so they mostly observe him from afar and exchanges only quick words with him when necessary. Despite that, they really wish they could be in better terms.

Kenpachi Zaraki: "...NEXT! NEXT!!" ;

Avoid at all costs. He’s the closest thing to Nnoitra Gilga after… well, Nnoitra Gilga, and the fact that he defeated the Quinta Espada makes him terrifying in their eyes. They also have very, VERY bad past experiences with the Eleventh as a whole, since some of the shinigami that would actively be hostile towards them for being an Arrancar come from the Eleventh. They don’t think he’s evil, just… it’s best not to provoke him in any way, good or bad, just when they’d avoid the Espadas. They did hear he immediately agreed on establishing the Arrancar unit though, for some reason.

Mayuri Kurotsuchi: "From what I could gather while reading his interventions in the Seireitei Bulletin, he's definitely a competent person, but... Captain Ōtoribashi was adamant that I steer well clear of him, unless absolutely necessary. A shame, because he sounds like a great conversationalist." ;

I’ve already written a bit about Mayuri here, and though the post relates to the post-TYBW verse, the first part is still accurate for the main one. There are a LOT of stories about Captain Kurotsuchi’s deeds, and as stated, Miele likes to read his publications, if anything to form an opinion on the man. All this secretive talk about him makes them really curious, but curiosity killed the cat, as they say…

Jūshirō Ukitake: "Neeeh, what could one say about Captain Ukitake other that he's amazing? I say, he gifted me candy out of the blue, more than once! I definitely see why he's so popular!" ;

His two retainers are very strict about visiting hours due to Jūshirō's frail health, so Miele doesn't get to spend much time with him, but they're definitely a big fan of his. He too, like Shunsui, was a big promoter of the Cooperative Arrancar Unit, and makes sure to check up on them once in a while to see how Miele's doing, which they really appreciate. They send him a "get better soon" hand-made card everytime they hear he's fallen ill, and gets snacks delivered in return.

#I really like your description of a Fully Ghost Danny#I think it fits him

character design is my favorite thing ever. the outfits themselves im not too good at sometimes, but the physical appearances are like. my favorite thing ever. Coming up with Fem Danyal's design was a treat. I put a claw at the end of her braid and turned her hair into a rope dart, it was fantastic.

Danny's ghost being permanently 14 is so tragic to me, but the ide of his ghost form fluctuating between ages only ust hit me as I was writing it and I thought it'd be neat as fuck ldshf. What age he appears at varies by a lot of different things including but not limited to his mood and attention.

#I also love the whole ‘making his first death more tragic by making him younger when it happened’ thing#it always makes reveals that much more tragic and I am HERE for it

FAIR. I'll be frank I did it here just so that I could have Danny meet Bruce when he was 14/13 and give them more family bonding time, but I fr wanna make more aus where his first death happens when he's a little younger. I forgot that it was just a thing I could just do if I wanted, and its reminded me my Mockingbird Au from when I was still active in Maribat.

And its so tragic! and uncomfortable for the people around Phantom! I'm just imagining little 11-12yr old phantom in a hazmat suit that's clearly meant for someone bigger than him, some of it slightly shrunk to fit better. Maybe there's some tragic reasoning behind it like the heat of the portal melted the suit a little bit so it fits danny a little better but is still visibly too big.

(Aw maybe when he's really upset his suit start to get all melty? I've thought a lot about the more horrific aspect of being basically cooked alive in between the doorway of two dimensions. I have this image of the arms become charred and skeletal like when he uses too much of his powers. The sleeves of his suit melting off and onto his skin in plastic chunks to reveal black-charred skeletal arms and hands underneath. I'll spare details on what I think his face looks like, except for the idea that he loses an eye and can roll the remaining one between sockets)

And he's got these long, slightly droopy elf ears that look slightly too big for him, highlighting just how young he is. They move too, pricking up when he hears something, pinning back when he feels a certain emotion. And of course the standard cosmetic changes like the glowing catlike green eyes and fluffy white hair that flicker and moves like an aurora borealis at the tips. And of course, the glowing star freckles.

Overall, him just blatantly looking like a child. It's a constant punch in the gut that this honest to god dead kid is the one protecting the city from harm.

confusion and heartbreak! someone would ask and danny gets all sheepish. he weighs his pros and cons and then reveals his Tragic Backstory™ and the Accident that turned him into a halfa. He explains he used to be a hero in his hometown, and that his godfather -- the one that poisoned him -- was his arch-nemesis.

Which, everyone just listens to with intent horror. It's like listening to a tragedy after its already long passed. A child hero -- first killed by his parents' irresponsibility -- murdered by his arch-nemesis, who happened to also be his godfather. He didn't have anyone to keep him safe; he was completely alone.

What's even worse is when Danny tells them that Vlad didn't even intend for Danny to die -- he poisoned him as a control tactic, but didn't think Danny would actually run away.

the guilt is thick in the air.

i was thinking about this! I think it'd be kinda sweet. Danny doesn't stick around often, but Gotham has a few areas where the veil between the zone and the living world thins out. Once he learns where these shortcuts are, he occasionally pops by to say hi. Usually its only for a few minutes, and only if patrol is slow.

Occasionally he'll start showing up to specific world-ending threats, or if somehow a ghost slips through to the living realm he'll follow right after to curbstomp their ass back to it. Very specific mental image of this teeny 12 year old with stars in his hair cheerfully German Supplexing some Ares-wannabe ghost into the fucking pavement, before turning to the Justice League and saying "Hey guys! Don't worry, I've got this!"

Granted, that’s probably not the first thing Danny should be saying to the guy that just bit the curb, but in his defense; he’s not running on 100% right now either.

The man -- tall, towering, and broader than Danny is tall -- whips around on his heel, black frayed cape flaring out impressively. Danny would've whistled in appreciation, but he takes the time instead to wipe the back of his hand across his mouth, smearing the blood running from his nose across his cheek.

"Sorry." He blinks widely, not even flinching as the man with the horns zeroes in on him. "That was rude of me. I have a really bad brain-to-mouth filter; Sam says its what always gets me into trouble."

And she's not wrong either, per say. His smart mouth is what landed him in this situation -- with blood blossom extract running through his veins and cannibalizing the ectoplasm in his bloodstream. Thanks Vlad.

The man grunts at him; a short, curt "hm" that shouldn't make Danny smile, but he does because he's somewhat delirious and probably concussed. The man keeps some kind of distance, sinking towards the shadows of Gotham's alleyway like he dares to melt right into it.

If it's supposed to scare Danny, it doesn't work. Danny's never been afraid of the dark; he's always been able to hide himself in it. He blinks slowly at the mass of shadows.

"You look hurt." The shadows says, blurring together around the edges. Danny squints, and licks his lips to get the blood dripping down his chin off. Ugh, he hates the taste of blood.

"I am." He says, "My godfather poisoned me. M'dying." The agony of the blood blossom eating him from the inside out looped back around to numbing a while ago, so all he feels is half-awake and dazed.

"Hey," Danny stumbles forward towards the man, a bloodied hand reaching out to him. "You-- you're a hero, right? You're not attacking me; which is more than I can say for most costumed people I've met." Maybe it's a poor bar to judge someone at, but he's already established that Danny's not in his right mind.

The man makes no change in expression, but Danny realizes blearily that it's hard to tell with the shadows on his face. He stays still long enough for Danny to latch onto the cape -- stretchy, but almost soft under his fingers.

He looks up blearily into the whites of the man's eyes. "Can you help me? I don't-- I don't wanna die." Again. He doesn't wanna die again. He blinks slow and lizard-like. "I mean- I'll probably get to see mom and dad again, but I told them I'd at least try and make it to adulthood."

There's a clatter down the street, and Danny's ghost sense chills up his spine and leaves a bitter, ashy taste in his mouth. He immediately knows who it belongs to even before the deceptively gentle; "Daniel?" echoes down the way.

"Daniel? Quit your games, badger, Gotham is dangerous for children."

Danny's mouth pulls back, and blood spills against his tongue. "Please." He rasps, and grabs onto the shadow's cape with both hands. "Please. He's going to kill me. Please--"

"Daniel? Is that you?"

His lips part, dragging in air to plead with the darkness again. He doesn't need to, the whites of his eyes narrow, and the cape whirls around him before Danny can blink. Soon swaddled in shadows, the Night lifts him up, and steals him away.

Day 6 of Character Trivia Night!

For tonight we have Micah

Micah is an only child with a mother and a father

He grew up in a small town and his parents were upper-middle class in town standards

They were very religious and paid a lot of attention to always appearing proper. They wouldn't wear the same outfits two days in a row and made sure their clothes were always perfectly ironed

His dad was quite strict with him, not allowing him to play outside and crease his clothes, and made sure he attended church regularly

Micah was never really interested in playing with the other kids so he didn't particularly care about the rules

Even as a child he was aware he was prettier and smarter than most kids around, he was also very apathetic towards others. He didn't particularly care about them but enjoyed when they praised and looked up to him so kept the good boy act

His one joy was growing flowers, because unlike humans flowers are not annoying. If he takes good care of a flower it'll grow up and bloom like planned, it won't betray his plans. Its life is on his hands, if he decides to cut it it'll die, and if he decides to stop watering it it'll shrivel

His parents weren't very into the idea of him taking care of their garden but after seeing he wasn't giving up and that he actually made it look prettier they gave in

He was later on sent to the capital to further his education, joining the cathedral and quickly becoming a high priest

Even away from his parents he continued to live following their teachings. He would wear clean and well ironed clothes, he usually preferred loose fitting ones that didn't show much skin

He also started growing his hair to the possible displeasure of his father, he enjoyed taking care of it and keeping it clean. He naturally had very thick strands but his hair was still very soft

He also quite enjoying coffee, especially with some light sweets accompanying it. Thanks you that he ended up being quite good at brewing coffee and baking low sugar cakes

He was popular with men and women alike thanks to his angelic appearance and polite personality, receiving letters of affection not only from people inside the cathedral but those who simply came to visit it

Soon enough he was more well known than the actual bishop amongst the common people

He didn't really care about ranking up more and taking on the bishop role, he actually enjoyed the fact that he was better liked even as someone of lower status which made the actual bishop quite furious

He was eventually sent to work at a church in a nearby town by the bishop who did not enjoy seeing him around, not that Micah cared. The town was small but clean and well taken care of, he could just live quietly while being adored by those around

He was greeted with many cheers upon his arrival to the church, his fame traveling ahead of him

He greeted everyone and introduced himself, not caring to pay too much attention to the stuff they told him

Around his third day at the church, as he was passing by the inner garden he heard the sounds of giggling

Two nuns in training, seemingly enjoying a conversation between themselves

Micah could hear what they were talking about but somehow it all felt like blank noise, not registering. The weather was nice, he could feel a warm breeze flowing through his hair. The sunlight was just right, making his skin warm and fuzzy but not to the point of making him sweat. He could hear the chirps of birds mixing with their giggles. Everything was so nice, so nice and so clear, and Micah was just standing there. He was just standing there and looking at the nun he seemingly had never noticed before. Was the sky always so blue and full of life?

It wasn't too hard finding more about you as you were on good terms with most people around. He quickly learned that you were a faithful child of god, that your family was quite poor and that you wanted to become a nun in hopes of earning money to help your family

The day he first approached you was an exciting day for you. He's THE Micah after all, anyone would be excited. He was so nice and so easy to talk to, before you knew it you were crying about your struggles and pains as he gently hugged you

You really liked him, he would always listened to your problems so patiently and offer you solutions. With him you felt so seen

At first it started small, Micah bought you the dress you've been eyeing for so long. Then it started getting bigger, he would sometimes directly give you money, telling you to go buy whatever you need

He was like an angel, truly a good person. You thought he must be a savior sent by god to make your pains go away

And so you trusted him, how could you not? He was such a good person, and everyone knew just how good he was. And you continued trusting him when he called you to his chambers late at nights, you trusted him when he locked the door behind you, you trusted him when he was being just a bit too close for your liking

Heartstopper S3 Q&A weekend!

Hello everyone! I don't usually use this blog to answer questions, but I've been wanting to answer some of your questions about season 3 of Heartstopper, and I figure this is probably the best place for it!

It's nearly 2 months since the release of S3 and I'd love to go on a deep dive with you all. I always feel like I don't express myself very well in interviews, so I feel more comfortable getting to express myself in the written word here! You may have questions about characters, relationships, themes, production, music, animation, and more... I shall try my best to share some interesting behind-the-scenes trivia!!

they first met at joe's fantasy world, julie (my self insert! hurrah!) had just moved to eltingville and was checking stuff out, jerry was hanging back watching bill and josh argue over something, and she asked him if she could go over to joe and buy a first edition pokémon booster pack with her money for her, since joe was looking at her weird just for being there. he said sure, and when they went outside to open it together, they got two of the base set 1st edition holo zapdos. they both freaked out together and she gave one of them to jerry for helping her out. before he could say anything else, bill yelled at him to get back there, which he did, before noticing she stuck a post it with her number on the back of the zapdos card she had given him.

they started hanging out more and more, and eventually, with much sucking up to the guys and her drawing girls with big boobies for them, bill very very begrudgingly let her hang out for some of the eltingville club meetings, angrily kicking her out if she ever touched anything she wasn't supposed to.

other than jerry, her best relationship is probably with pete, with their shared interest of monsters and scary creatures, and he often makes her draw cool creepy stuff for him which she finds a little fun. although, she gets squeamish and is not too fond of actual horror movies, so they don't get that close, he thinks she's kind of a pussy for that. she's also kinda terrified of him after discovering he watches gore.

josh hates her, and she hates him too, probably. he kept bugging her about not being able to name any star trek characters, and when she asked her dad about them to tell josh, he dismissed her efforts as being a wannabe. though they bond the tiniest little bit over having watched akira and josh liking the same stuff as her dad (star trek, star wars, dr. who).

bill is fond of her even less, somehow. though he doesn't see her as a threat to the club as much as jerry's other girl friends (like agnes) were, he's still incredibly annoyed by her presence and tries to make up any excuse to kick her out of his basement whenever she shows up. the only times he doesn't complain is when she's drawing stuff for him or when kairo is around, since they're besties.!!!! jerry is the closest to her out of all of them (obviously), and, after getting over his fear of talking to girls in general with her, they got really really close. they very often had sleepovers together, hung out in the mall, had walks together, and more stuff, making it baffling to any outsiders to learn they weren't dating at all (yet). she torrented the first lord of the rings movie for him, and in turn he got her into d&d. they also watch ghibli movies and go to renaissance fairs together, and jerry almost passed out when he saw her in fake elf ears for the first time. they often draw stuff of each other (that one doodle of knight jerry and elven princess totally not julie i did), and they're both equally oblivious that it's supposed to be them when one shows a drawing to the other. jerry also always calls her over to open card booster packs for him, because she somehow has incredible luck whenever it's her that opens it for other people.

they all also sometimes make fun of her jojo's interest, calling it gay shit, but they do respect how much trivia and useless fun facts she knows about it. also, other than her drawing ability (and the fact that she's okay with drawing weird shit for them), they fuck with her music taste a lot (she listens to literally EVERYTHING). and whenever one of them is sick or unable to go for other reasons, she's happy to play d&d with the others as a replacement, though they get pissed off whenever she doesn't take it that seriously and jokes around a little (think perception check by tom cardy).

her and jerry stop hanging out after this fan, this monster, due to jerry's mother thinking she was involved and forbidding jerry to talk to her, and julie's mom also forbidding it for thinking all the boys decided to burn joe's down and that none of them respected her at all (kinda true). and, due to none of them really admitting they had crushes on one another and not dating at all around that time, that did stop their relationship from evolving.

she met mandi in college, bonding over liking cosplay and other stuff, and developed a crush on her, becoming incredibly surprised when she started dating jerry, her old crush, of all people she expected. they started hanging out together as a group, regaining jerry's friendship, before she eventually worked up the courage to ask to be their third when drunk in a bar and, since both of them liked her back too, they agreed. (jerry + julie + mandi ship name is jumanji btw. because i love being silly !!!)

julie got a whatever degree and became a full time commission artist, mostly doing gigs for big companies and games (i like to think she did something for like. marvel once and when she says this in the epilogue, bill, josh, and pete all fucking freak out).
