rest in peace bridget’s twin. shes the one with the lil black mustache.
thought i saw fin rot again, started medicating and the 2 affected are feeling better! but bridgets twin must have had something that wasnt fin rot, and she passed overnight.
still trying to get the goldfish a bigger tank. the one on facebook marketplace turned out to be a lure, almost got carjacked :/ super uncool. and the last time i trust someone with a doberman as their profile pic lol
also i drew the fishies! sizes r not accurate lol

these are my six goldfish!! they were feeders we got for our pond last summer, but my gf said i could keep a few indoors, since we found a 20g that one time in the alleys 😭 did i ever mention that??
their names are big papa, lil mama, norange, koiboi, bridget, and bridget’s twin. bridget and bridgets twin look nothing alike btw, their colors changed, as fishies do sometimes. There were originally two more, but we lost 1 guy the first week we had em (the normal casualties of buying feeders) and the other died of fin rot- i was too late to save him, but i used melafix on the tank and saved the rest!
Actually ive been stuck in suburbia dogsitting for my parents and bro, and i havent seen em in a week already. I feel like dogs dont vibe with me the way fish vibe with me, ykno???

Here’s tank numero uno. Its a 20 tall planted tank with 2 sponge filters. It has the aqueon (i think) buffering substrate (it was originally for caridina shrimp) . Unfortunately I lost the single neon seen here, although the cardinals are doing just great. Definitely gonna get more cardinals when i have money again! We have 3 neocaridina, and ten more should be arriving today or tomorrow depending on shipping. We’ve got a ghost shrimp too, the last of his squad as well. Theres a big ol mystery snail too, who we think actually killed the other mystery snail. Planted wise I’ve got one crypto, wendetti i think? A bunch of java moss, and I recently added some hornwort, stolen from the goldfish tank. I’ve also got some pothos, a monstera and a wandering jew chilling in the back. Driftwoods malaysian, and some indian almond leaves. The tank is very well cycled at this point, and has a ton of those little white bug guys, which the shrimp and also the tetras love snacking on.
The only issue I’m having rn is this hair algae epidemic. It looks okay here as I’d just cleaned it, but it grows so fast! I’ve neen moving the light around some and keeping it on for less, and being very careful not to overfeed- which is easy because they are constantly eating the things in the tank. It’s definitely growing a lot slower than before, but I still wish it’d go down a bit. Perhaps the incoming shrimp can help a bit? It’s not their preferred snack, but they will eat it.
I’ll get pics of the goldfish tank soon!

today i must report some good things and some bad things.
tank number 1 (tetras, shrimp, snail) has been scraped for algae, and ive removed as much hair algae as i can (the worst!! 😭) and did a 20 percent water change. they look way happier. only positives here
tank #2 (goldfish, pleco, snails) is healing from its fin rot. the medicine is healing them, and theyre playful as ever.
unfortunately, i think we lost the last goldfish in our patio pond this morning. my gf usually takes care of them personally, but recently shes been having a hard time, so i took over and fixed as much as i could. it was pretty heavily neglected, the wild grasses roots were taking up half the pond and had strangled more than a couple fish and shrimp! i trimmed those and took out some as they grow far too fast. i then did as many water changes as i could before my back started acting up, and i made my metamour carry the buckets back and forth.
this patio or porch pond was pretty much a huge experiment from the start. it’s one of those big black bins with the yellow lid removed, stocked with feeder goldfish, no filter, no heating, built from backyard shit. to be fair we had no money, and they did pretty well!! chicago winter is tough, though. Yesterday i noticed that they got that goldfish slime, i got them medicine and a proper heater, but it was too late. the last 3 passed this morning. i couldnt find any others.
i feel like i learned alot from them. today i am going to build a simple bucket filter- although now that they’ve all passed, perhaps our attention should shift towards preparing the bigger outdoor tank space we got. maybe a bigger and nicer home for the next fish will be better!!
heres some old photos. ill take new ones soon!
