With the grace of a baby elephant, Kenny ran down the stairs and plopped down onto the couch. He had the rest of the afternoon off as his mother had joined them for the weekend and had dragged his father out of the house for a little sightseeing. Now after the whole thing with Melody, he just wanted to focus on training and resting so he grabbed the book his mami had bought him and reclined on the couch. Apollo 13. Not many people would peg him for a space odyssey fan, but rather for a brainless jock. It was okay though. He was fine with it being his secret. Melody probably thought that too. Well, not probably; there was no doubt in his mind that the entitled pest only viewed him as a football airhead, even when she was trying to get him to fuck her. He was determined to ignore her from now and that included nonstop thinking about her so he tried to shake the thoughts away and opened the book.

After shooting off a text to Tabitha to let her know that despite their shared suspicion, he had yet to uncover any actual Ready or Not vibes in the Dubois mansion (and he was still very much on the lookout for any), he pockets his phone so he can give his friend his undivided attention.

At the exact right time, it seemed, tuning in so hear Kenny casually drop a piece of information that had him blinking at them.

"Waaaait," He had smoked a fair bit before he arrived and one with them since he got there but even in his good kush and free booze addled mind, he knows what he heard, "What family did you marry into? When were you married? Are you married?"

Kenny didn't personally know the Dubois but when Keo asked if they would come to a fancy party with an open bar, they couldn't possibly say no. Ken loved parties and, more importantly, loved tequila.

a very quick explanation of kenny's backstory

// HISTORY.         kenny mason grew up on an isolated louisiana farm with his parents, 5 older sisters, aunts and uncles, as well as a few other folk who weren’t blood but were treated as they were. the farm was pretty self sufficient, the masons going to town every other week or so to sell at farmers markets and for supply runs. one particularly hot spring day, some of kenny's cousins went out hunting to bring back a deer to share with the family — a rather normal pastime for the mason boys — but something about this deer didn’t look right to kenny. the fur was matted down funny, the eyes bulged from the poor things skull. his cousins insisted that it was just the heat that did it to the poor buck and kenny wasn’t convinced. he tried to warn everyone off eating it, just in case, but because they are a "no waste" kinda family and all kenny had to go off of was a gut feeling they ate it anyways, and teased him to no end while doing it. kenny went hungry that night, and was the only one that didn't eat the deer’s meat. the changes didn’t take long, everyone on the farm started acting strange pretty quickly; it was little things at first — forgetfulness, listlessness, unable to sleep properly, and some began coming down with some sort of flu. then came the hostile and violent attitudes. It reached a fever pitch when in the early hours of the morning kenny snuck to the kitchen to investigate the source of a horrible ruckus, witnessing his father murdering one of his older sisters and eating her right there on the kitchen table. kenny watched in horror as everyone started turning bloodthirsty and decided then that it's time to go — the only one of his family he was able to pull away from the chaos is the youngest of his older sisters, but even she began to get aggressive, biting and scratching at his eyes. in the struggle he is forced to kill her to escape. he steals the family camper van and drives off, scared about what's happening to his family, absolutely devastated about killing his sister --- so he stays on the run, never settling down, living in the back of the camper van, afraid that some day he will be found out for the murder of his sister, or possibly blamed for the chaos at the farm. or worse still, hes scared that one day he will get sick just like they did.

SBFC 003: My Snake Have Started to Move

Woolie sets up the website, it dies right away and he stays up all night trying to buy better servers and make sure the shit works.

Audible is the first ever sponsor, Woolie says it’s a product he uses and is comfortable advertising. He goes on to list Opie and Anthony as a favorite radio show on the service, he mentions they have Louis C.K interviews on their show. Some comic called Woolie Shitlocks.

[Anthony Cumia got kicked off the show with his name in the title because of racist tirades on Twitter dot com. Louis C.K was cancelled for jerking off in front of people, maybe DON’T do that?]

As Matt cleaned his snake’s tank it escaped the temporary enclosure, he calls out to the silent predator, its name is Jack. “My snake have started to move.”

Pat: Woolie, who are you?

Woolie: A black person.

They make it a point to introduce themselves so the listener knows who is who, and realize they didn’t do it last week.

On to their weeks:

Liam played Dragon’s Crown. He also watched episode 1 of RWBY, he says the action is good but the characters are shallow and tropey, the rest of the writing doesn’t fare better. He doesn’t think he’ll keep watching it. 6/20 review score.

[RWBY is fairly popular, I only see rule 34 in my feed on the rare occasion.]

Matt has been working on Rustlemania and playing Divekick, is hyped for Killer is Dead. His birthday is today (the day the podcast publishes, they record the day before) so his birthday is coming up.

Pat has an aside. He played Saints Row 4 on pc and tried to fix a texture issue, he ended up having the entire rig shit on itself and then just played Divekick on every other console he has. Dork girl beats his ass with Kenny in every match she picks him. He tried to play FF14 but it was broken so he was unable to, Woolie jokes it’s because of its massive popularity.

Woolie has been mourning his recently bought, pre-owned launch PS3 that was also repaired. The group talks about how many 360 consoles they have burned through; Woolie went through 3, Pat through 4, Liam broke 1 at work, Matt went through 5 at work and only 1 personal console. Woolie laments the issue with getting his saves off the console because apparently PS doesn’t automatically back up your saves digitally? Finally he looked up the podcast’s performance, Ep 002 hit #15 the day it came out.

Gamescom time:

They start with the Xbox showcase, or the lack of anything. They laugh at Fighter Within, Liam calls it flail simulator, Woolie calls it QWOP for Kinect. Matt wants to get a copy of Fighter Uncaged and compare the two games jokingly, he then says the game’s screenshots look nice, like it would be a game he’d play if it were an actual fighting game.

PS4 talk begins with talking about how ugly the red and blue Dualshock controllers are, Pat blames it on the ugly PS4 controller. They agree it’s way more comfortable than the PS3, Pat says it’s 1% better than the 360 pad, “Completely negligible,” he states. Pat feels the Xbone controller is worse and feels bulkier, doesn’t care for the ‘Impulse Triggers’, or rumble in general.

They lust for the White Xbox One, which was ultra limited at the beginning of the console cycle. They spiral down conversations about wanting specific color consoles and cobbling their limited run handhelds together to keep them for longer.

The rest of the news:

Wonderful 101 was meant to be a Nintendo crossover game, similar to Smash Bros. They discuss which weapons would correlate to which character, then Liam says, “Yo, a Captain Falcon character action racing game by Platinum!” Pat and Woolie pog. Pat believes there will a Star Fox-like level in Wonderful 101 that just barely skirts the line of being Star Fox, based on Kamiya’s constant talks about the IP.

[Platinum Games made a Star Fox game in 2016, I think people liked it.]

Matt brings up the issue with potentially making 101 a crossover game, claiming people would complain Nintendo is not making new IPs, but then voices that people are already complaining it’s not a crossover game. “Damned if you do, damned if you don’t,” he aptly says.

Pat: The problem is that new IPs are great, but crossovers are rarer than new IPs.

Rare is ‘kicking around ideas for their IPs’. They lament the state of the studio. Matt states ex-employees said they had dozens of game ideas and Xbox shot them all down because they didn’t include Kinect integration. Woolie and Matt mock Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts. Pat doesn’t care about the upcoming Killer Instinct reboot, but says he’d care more if Rare was working on it.

[Rare has put out Rare Replay and Sea of Thieves, they worked with the devs who made KI and the newest Battletoads, and Everwild has yet to be a real game. Not a great record, but hey Banjo and Kazooie got into Smash Bros, that’s something I guess. Also Nuts and Bolts walked so TOTK could run. The validity of the last statement is irrelevant because I have played neither.]

This section is dubbed “SNK get your shit together” by Liam. Evidently there are 4 games called KOF Online, this most recent one is a MOBA. They joke about other kinds of weird spinoff games the series could be, RTS, etc. Woolie proposes Metal Slug as a Maple Story type of game.

Blizzard is not opposed to making World of Warcraft free-to-play. Pat claims they’re on the way to it, based on the decline of players in the game. FFXIV relaunched and people are turning around on the game, the problem is the server are entirely busted. [They go into a viewer question that asks which MMOs the boys played, it’s not interesting enough to reiterate here. But Pat did say this:]

Pat: Phantasy Star Online isn’t an MMO. PSO2 is, but you’re never going to get it, shut up.

Fite Game time:

Woolie and Liam played Aquapazza. They like it as a fighting game but are confused as to why *this* one is coming to the West.

Woolie jokes that Undernight Inbirth is coming over, they all agree that it doesn’t need to come over. [It did eventually, as well as its sequel.]

Yatagarasu is getting renamed to Legend of Raven for the Western release, it is also switching from 3DS to Vita. They wonder why the full switch from the different handhelds, Matt says it’s because Nicalis is “a shit publisher that will do anything they can to get the easiest thing….” He is spoken over by Liam and Woolie who adamantly contest his claim.

Woolie says Nicalis deserves respect because he is the guy who convinced Pixel (creator of Cave Story) to get back into making games. Matt’s issue with them is that they promise new games for years, then do not support them. Woolie and Liam are still upset with ‘shit publisher’, Matt doesn’t back down.

Pat tries to divert away from the topic by calling Capcom a shit publisher. They aren’t giving Ace Attorney 5 a retail release, and the WiiU version of Shadow over Mystara has been delayed until September. No one knows why he brought that up during the fite game section.

Ultra Street Fighter 4 is coming out and getting rebalanced. Liam and Pat will fight to the death over Hakan’s oil. Post hit KOs were breaking the game so they took it out.

Killer Instinct has a bit of info. They feel the model for KI is weird with the ‘packs’ that were being introduced, apparently they were different than the new character add-ons and is confusing. Pat would have preferred if they made the whole game then released “Super KI” later like Capcom.

Liam: The biggest bummer for me is that there’s no physical version.

Pat: Hey Liam, get used to that being a bummer.

Matt: Ken Lobb said the physical version will come out way later.

Pat: Oh, I meant in general.

[Killer Instinct’s model is the current model for most fighting games now: launch, add new purchasable characters and costumes, add other free stuff, update until you’re done. Lack of physical releases has only gotten worse, physical is disappearing everyday. I personally don’t care but the choice should remain.]

Pat is concerned about game preservation. If a digital storefront is closing, like Games for Windows Live, the games on it will simply disappear; he also brings up the issue of discs needing to activate via server pinging. He has an opinion about Xbox wanting people to buy into their online infrastructure, even though they have shuttered the OG Xbox online service as well as Games for Windows, though he doesn’t quite finish the thought. He does call those 2 services garbage, however.

[This section is still very relevant, but Pat hasn’t even seen the worst of it yet. Nintendo has closed the Wii, WiiU, and 3DS shops, entirely cutting off the last legal avenue to obtain those games easily; they clearly hate game preservation so it’s a good that emulation is a thing. Xbox has at least tried to get older games onto their backwards compatibility library, though the amount of exemptions is undeniable. We’re still waiting to the Xbox 360 closure coming July 2024, they are vocal about preserving as many titles as possible before then. PS and Xbox are no longer making all-new storefronts it seems, so that’s a plus.]

They have a discussion about how online services lasting longer than it’s initial lifetime is rare, they end up comparing games like APB to digital storefronts, which really aren’t comparable. Pat believes Steam is the gold standard that all other online services should be compared to.

Back to KI [yeah, we’re still on that topic], Ken Lobb promises that KI will be THE first party fighter, they will keep adding onto it rather than make a sequel. A new character was accidentally shown in a Thunder video provided to Gamestrailers, Woolie believes it was Kim-Wu but it is actually Sadira; Maximillian Dood is the only one with the footage of the character so he went sort of viral for it.

Matt thinks all the old characters should be in the game first before a new one, they rip on Spinal for being a dumb skeleton. They also speculate how the returning characters will play.

[Spinal is undoubtably awesome in this KI. The devs release both new and returning characters throughout the game’s life and no one really seemed to complain about all old characters not being before characters like Hisako and Rash.]

Ben Affleck is confirmed the new Batman, “what’s his face” is still Superman. Woolie describes Zack Snyder flicks as ‘cool action, nothing in between.’ Woolie gives Batfleck the benefit of the doubt because of Heath Ledger’s Joker, Pat says Affleck already sucked as Daredevil so he has no faith in the casting. Matt retorts with Chris Evans going from the Human Torch to Captain America. Matt continues with saying people shouldn’t be mad about Batfleck, they should be mad they’re getting ANOTHER Man of Steel movie.

Pat: Ben Affleck has like a 13 movie deal…

A bit of an aside, but they get to Mark Hamill voicing the Joker, they state how he’s ‘not doing it anymore’ because Troy Baker is voicing the character in Arkham Origin.

Pat: Troy Baker is going to be the new everything.

[Ben Affleck was fine(?) as Batman. We wasn’t Batman in very many DC movies, cameo or otherwise. Not naming Henry Cavill as Superman is hilarious to hear today because of his status as the unhygienic nerd’s power fantasy come to life: absolutely nothing against the man himself, he’s just a dude. Mark Hamill voiced Joker plenty of times after Arkham Origins; he has stated that he’s no longer interested in portraying Joker now that Kevin Conroy, his Batman, has passed. a very quick and messy explanation of kennys backstory (until im able to write out something that sounds better lol)

kenny mason from louisiana grew up on an isolated farm with his family and a couple others. the farm was pretty self sufficient, going to town every other week or so to sell at farmers markets and for supply runs. one particularly hot spring some of kenny's cousins go out hunting and bring back a deer to share with the family, which is a pretty normal thing for them to do, but something about this deer didnt look right to kenny. he tried to warn everyone else off eating it, but because they are a "no waste" kinda family and all kenny had to go off of was a gut feeling they ate it anyways. kenny was the only one that didn't eat the deer that night. after that night, everyone on the farm started acting strange; it was little things at first --- forgetful, listless, unable to sleep properly and some began coming down with some sort of flu. then came the hostile and violent attitudes, reaching a fever pitch a few days later when kenny witnesses his father killing one of his older sisters and eating her right there in the kitchen. kenny watched in horror as everyone start turning bloodthirsty and decided then that its time to go --- the only one of his family he was to pull away from the chaos is the youngest of his oldest sisters, but even she begins to get aggressive, biting and scratching at his eyes, and in the struggle he is forced to kill her to escape. he steals the family camper van and drives off, scared about what's happening to his family, absolutely devastated about killing his sister --- so he stays on the run, never settling down, living in the back of the camper van, afraid that some day he will be found out for the murder of his sister, or possibly blamed for the chaos at the farm. or worse still, hes scared that one day he will get sick just like they did.

5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): Gee, I don't have a lot of JJK ships. SatoSugu for sure!! GojoHime a close second. (I actually have a lot of GojoHime brainrot currently) ItaFushi definitely! They're so cute. And YuutaMaki bc they are the GOAT power couple. One is a descendant of Michizane no Suguwara and is as powerful as his very very distant cousin Satoru, and the other completely Uchiha Itachi'd her clan without a single curse technique. Queen behavior.

Character I find most attractive: my first gut reaction is to say GOJO, as I should tbh. But we've all seen Toji, and that dude ain't even animated yet! All the clout he's gained is deserved. idk what Gege was thinking when he was drawing Toji but he sure as fuck knew what he was doing. 😏

Character I would marry: Call me Mrs. Gojo Satoru. He is tall, he's hot af and he's filthy rich. Crazy, stupid rich. If being the strongest wasn't working for him, his deep pockets surely will lmaoooo

Character I would be best friends with: Yuuta. Because he's so shy and adorable, I would love and protect him. This was very hard bc I wanted to choose Yuuji, who is sunshine personified.

a random thought: JJK fandom grossly doesn't know how Gojo's Infinity technique works, it annoys the fuck outta me. In fact, there's so much misinformation about JJK in general such as the No One Can See Sukuna's Marks on Yuuji theory which is debunked in the text itself but it's still regarded as canon, when it's not.

An unpopular opinion: I don't ship Toji and his wife. I ship Toji with MEEE lololol

My Canon OTP: Gojo and I are canon every night in my dreams. JJK doesn't have a lot of canon ships and they sure as hell ain't my OTP but Miwa x Kokichi was sweet.

My Non-canon OTP: I mean SatoSugu is practically canon.

Most Badass Character: Sukuna or Toji idk. Sukuna for being such a wild threat to people that he couldn't even be killed nor destroyed as a curse. Toji bc that mf brought a glock to fight a dragon. And he WON!

Most Epic Villain: Sukuna! All these basic curses and sorcerers wished they were on his lvl. Peasants.

Pairing I am not a fan of: Suguru x Shoko. I just… nah. I don't like it. Utahime x Nanami. I love Nanami but I find him boring to be a love interest. Anyone x Mei Mei. She's a bad bitch, but she's pretty shady and an asshole (and also really creepy with her brother) lol

Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): JJK is so young a manga yet, it hasn't really done any misses for now. But there's a lot Gege can and actually should expand on before he ends the manga. I really wanna see more politics within jujutsu society. Worldbuilding and lore on the Great Three clans. Flashbacks to Heian period society and its sorcerers. More jujutsu clans that aren't the three main ones, like Inumaki. And also, I'm biased so I want to see Utahime's curse technique before I die and it should absolutely be badass. (also revealing how and when she got that scar)

Favourite Friendship: Nobara/Yuuji/Megumi!! they are BESTIES in a way that Shoko/Suguru/Satoru has never been

Character I most identify with: Miwa. I, too, have an super mega gigantic crush on Gojo Satoru. And I, too, would likely get my butt whooped by Maki.

Character I wish I could be: Tsukumo Yuki. One of the only four special grade sorcerers, she don't even do shit, but still gets payed big money and she looks good doing it. Love that for her, wish that was me. Also her spending quality time with Choso. What a lucky gal.

002 | Send me a ship and I will tell you: Zutara

When I started shipping them: Zutara? Oh boy, it all started a long time ago, when I was 13/14 years old when ATLA was still airing. More than a decade later, and I'm still shipping them.

My thoughts: bryke missed out on the greatest love story that could have ever been told on American TV.

What makes me happy about them: the fact that they are complete opposites and still so much alike. fire/water, blue/red, awkward turtleduck/fierce opinionated baddie– and yet both are incredibly righteous to help people, both are loud and have a temper and have absolutely the worst, lousiest sense of humor. The way they understand each other, the way they both had to grow individually and how they grew together. Nah, they're perfect, your honor.

What makes me sad about them: the fact that they were denied the opportunity to heal the world together. If the comics are to be believed (and I do NOT consider them canon) Zuko spiraled into loneliness and distrustfulness after the end of the war. While there was a whole bunch of nonsense in those comics, something which is absolutely true bc it's just something repeated in history again and again; a sudden change in regime will always have detractors; some more violent than others. So assassination attempts on Zuko's life is something that definitely would have happened. It's unfortunate he went through that alone. And if LoK is to be believed, Katara didn't do much in terms of reformation post war besides being Aang's GF/Wife. The disrespect. Nothing would have been a better show of unity than having the Fire Lord marrying a woman from the SWT and then they do everything to heal and regrow their communities together. Worlds of potential wasted there.

Things done in fanfic that annoys me: Bashing Aang. I do NOT fuck with that. Aang is a sweetie, innocent little bean. I understand he would have some emotional distress at Zutara, but fics bashing him or writing him completely OOC in lieu of Zutara is a no-go. I immediately skip. We love supportive, grown-out-of-his-childhood-crush Aang, not whatever the fuck some authors do with him to make Zuko look like the better option for Katara.

Things I look for in fanfic: Usually fix-it fics. But I'm a sucker for arranged marriage AU

My wishlist: I go back in time and somehow create ATLA when I was a kid and pitched it to Nick instead.

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: Jet. Both of them. Jetkotara is god tier!

My happily ever after for them: Fire Lord Zuko and his consort Katara, being so fantastic at repairing the world and ushering a golden age of peace and prosperity, that they're canonized into legend and protective spirits centuries down their line. Kind of like Oma and Shu, people make art about them, stories are told and rewritten about their love for each other, statues are erected in their honor, kids named after them, cities retitled because of them etc. forever after.

How I feel about this character: Aleksander, you deserve so much more than these books.

Any/all the people I ship romantically with this character: Alina doesn't deserve him either, but their symbolism together is so beautiful. And Nikolai with Sasha, that handsome bastard!

My favorite non-romantic relationship for this character: Sasha and Ivan. Ivan really was his ride and die, till the end. Wish we had Aleksander's POV to know how he felt about his death.

My unpopular opinion about this character: He shoulda fucked Elizaveta. And let Alina suffer the consequences of being a Grisha for a few centuries on her own. That'll teach her.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: He became the motherfucker TSAR! And won! And saved his people from death and persecution all around the world! Made his country flourish in culture and technology. Lived forever, yes. But happily. Knowing that no other child have to suffer fear and torture ever again the way he had when he was young

Favorite friendship for this character: Sasha and Nikolai and David. Completely fanon, but the potential of all three of their dynamics together would be hilarious, chaotic and ingenious.

My crossover ship: Aleksander Morozova, the Darkling, the Black General, descendant of Ilya Morozova and the Starless Saint x the Queen of Fire and Blood herself; Daenerys Stormborn of House Targaryen, Queen of the Andals and the First Men. Protector of the Seven Kingdoms. Queen of Meereen. Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea. Mother of Dragons, The Unburnt, and the Breaker of Chains. They would have too many titles between them lmao but they would absolutely rule like no other has before and they're the power duo of all power duos.
