Does anyone still have their pets? Like Gilbird, Pochi ,...
(Hi there!! Because my script for this ask was so long, because I genuinely cannot draw animals for the love of me, and because this ask has been waiting for so long [I'm so sorry], here's a text version!!)
//Reply under the cut//
Kiku: Ah! Pochi!
Ludwig: Pochi was the one Kiku introduced to me first, he loves that little dog. I too have three dogs, raised them from when they were puppies.
Kiku: I believe a good portion of our court does own a pet of some sort. And there's a good variety of animal types as well. I have Pochi and I adopted this cat named Tama, Feliciano has…. a number of pets….
Feliciano: Si! There's Fortuna, Fortuna, Fortuna, Gino, Fortuna…
Ludwig: How many animals did you name Fortuna…?
Feliciano: All of the kitties! Minus Gino, Gino's my special little kitty.
Lovino: He's lying, he forgot about Pookie.
Feliciano: No! Pookie ran away!
Lovino: No the fuck he didn't??? He's in my room scratching the hell out of my bedpost!
Feliciano, running off: Pookie!!!!!
Lukas: Hm? I have Troll. He's not a pet, but he hangs around. There's also Bøyg.
Emil: Those don't count.
Lukas: Hm, you're right.
Emil: I have Mr. Puffin.
Lukas: Evil thing.
Mr. Puffin: Don't you say anything, Lukas!
Lukas: I'll shove you back in that cage do not test me.
Mr. Puffin: Try it! I dare you!
Emil: Yikes! Okay, giving the camera over to Tino, bye!
Tino: Oh! Yes, yes! Berwald and I have a little dog named Hanatamago!
Kiku: Why he decided to call her that is beyond me. She loves hanging around with Pochi.
Berwald: Mm, Hana's at home, my brother Erland is takin' care of her.
Alfred: Oh hell yes we have pets! I've got my whale!
Arthur: A whale? A whole WHALE?!
Alfred: You never met her? She's out chilling on the coastline.
Arthur: I did not know about that. What…?
Alfred: Oh, and I have my cat- I call her frosty. I had a rabit, Usa. USA! I love that word.
Arthur: I gave him a unicorn as a coronation present.
Alfred, whispering to the camera: Okay, don't tell Artie but I can't see that thing. I don't know where it is at any given time, and I'm kinda terrified of it. It could be right next to me and I wouldn't know…
Alfred, leaning back from the camera: Ahaha! And I also have my cheese!
Arthur: You're… what?
Alfred: See?
Arthur: WHAT?!
Yao, taking the camera: I have Panda, plus four cats that I have yet to name.
Arthur, taking the camera back: And I have Flying Mint Bunny.
Alfred: Yeah that one I don't know about.
Arthur: He is REAL and he's sitting on your shoulder!
Alfred: WHAT?! Get him off!
Arthur: No!
Alfred: Ah!
Yao: Changing the subject! Tolys, do you have any pets?
Tolys: As of right now, no. I had a pet wolf when I was in Clubs, though.
François: I had a lovely little songbird named Pierre, but that was long ago. Before even Lillian was born.
Lili: Oh, how tragic!
François: Ouais, poor Pierre.
Vash: When I lived out in the countryside, Lili and I owned three little goats.
Lili: Such cuties, those three were! We had to sell them when we moved to the city, but I know they're living a wonderful life right now.
Vash: Mhm.
François: Does anyone else own any pets? Quinn? Antonio? Matthew?
Matthew: I do have a pet! He's currently in timeout, because he ATE MY BREAKFAST.
Kumajiro: Who do you think you are?! That was my pancakes!
Matthew: Kumakuma do not get me angry.
Lili: His name is actually Kumajiro!
Matthew: Yes, that's what I said. Kumahero.
Antonio: Oh! I have some turtles, gifted to me by the Heartian Ace.
François: Oh right! Such a kind thing for him to do.
François: Quinn, any pets?
Quinn: Um… no.
Quinn: Growing up, my brother's cat would scratch at my paintings and break my sculptures. I don't take kindly to cats.
Quinn: Though, they could be considered works of art…!
Roderich: As I see it, there are no animals in the Clubian court.
Vladimir, bursting in: And that's where you're wrong! I've got a ton of messenger birds, bats, and creatures hanging around my quarters.
Roderich: You brought bats into the castle?!
Vladimir: I've been here longer than you, you can't tell me to take them out.
Roderich: What does his majesty say about this?!
Vladimir: What he doesn't know won't hurt him. Plus, he's been in the magician's quarters many times, I'm sure he won't do anything.
Roderich: You better hope Erzse won't find out.
Vladimir: What she doesn't know won't hurt her.
Feliks: Yeah, and, you're totally wrong about pets in the Court. I have some ponies in the stable. Love those guys, I'm gonna go give them sugar cubes.
Vladimir: Yeah you go do that Feliks.
Roderich: …Well… do you have any pets, since I've been misinformed about how many animals are in the court, Raivis?
Raivis: Me?! No sir!
Roderich: What's that on your leg, then?
Raivis: Nothing!
Roderich: Really?
Raivis: Fine, it's a beaver that followed me into the castle. It's already taken apart my bed and my bookcase. The king lets it stick around because he finds it funny.
Roderich: My god…

Germany italy and japan have a close friend and crush who's another country, this country likes their accent and language and go as far as to ask them to teach them the language. How do they deal with that?
I've crawled out from the crypt, I hope this is acceptable lol
Germany • Ludwig Beilschmidt
German is a very harsh and rough sounding language and accent, he's heard plenty of jokes from other countries about it, so he'd never expect that you'd find it endearing in any way
When you asked him to teach you the language, he was slightly flustered, giving you an affirming nod
Hopefully you didn't plan on using this as a chance to flirt with him, because he takes the teaching aspect very seriously, showing up with language textbooks, a notebook, and extra pencils
You really have to buckle down during each session, especially since he's a real stickler for pronunciation
He doesn't mean to be overbearing, but he believes that everyone should put their best effort into everything they do
Plus he likes the idea of you two conversing together in his mother tongue, maybe while grabbing a coffee
That being said, there are mandatory breaks in between lessons, it's important to refresh your brain to help productivity
Also, you may start to notice him dropping German in his sentences far more often than he used to, he claims it's to help, but it's really because he knows you like it
Japan • Kiku Honda
Kiku wasn't too surprised when you told him that you were interested in learning his language, his culture (or a severely watered-down version of it) has been very popular in the recent years through media, so another country wanting to learn the language wasn't all too notable
Considering it was you though, he was delighted
He loves spending time with you, so the idea of spending a few hours a week with you, teaching you about his language and script, sounds more than nice
He focuses on Kanji first, insisting that it will make speaking vocabulary a lot easier down the line
The sessions are calm and relaxing, and he's a very patient teacher, making sure to go to a pace you're comfortable with
He enjoys starting off sessions by trying to converse a bit in Japanese
He finds himself thinking that the words sound gorgeous coming from you
North Italy • Feliciano Vargas
As soon as he found out you were partial to his language, he began to slip more Italian in his sentences than he ever did previously, and his accent became ever so slightly more pronounced
He used the guise of "helping you learn", but he only changed his speech because you like it, and he's not subtle about it at all
While he's excited when you ask him to teach you Italian, the sessions are unstructured and often derail into other topics quickly
Because of this, he opts to drop the books and drag you to his country instead, getting you to order your own food in restaurants and converse with the locals in Italian, insisting that the best way to learn is through the people
In his country, he'll also drag you to mostly empty cinemas, where a movie will be playing in Italian and he'll translate any words or sentences in whispers
He's not too serious on pronunciation and honestly thinks it's endearing when your natural accent, regardless of what it is, shines through the words in Italian
He loves flirting with you in Italian now

Synthetic Son: Chapter 1: Intro
Word Count: 1402
Synthetic Son Masterlist
--------------------
In front of Kiku stands an odd child.
The year was 2246. Just four years ago huge advancements in humanity had been destroyed from fear. Before 2242, great scientists had created humanoid AI and given them mechanical bodies with striking similarity. These beings were officially called “Androids”. The technology spread like wildfire, and while expensive, surprisingly many people bought one. They were a common sight in middle and high class homes, and an even commoner sight in workplaces like factories and farms.
In the year 2242, riots became more violent. People had lost their jobs due to Androids, while some just hated the mere idea. Some were scared of malfunction, some were scared of AI going rogue or gaining sentience. Many people thought AI was going too far. Also, they were totally super horrible for the planet…
Peaceful protests had been made before, to at least regulate the creation of Androids, but money-hungry powerful men cannot be stopped so easily. A few experts got together one evening and created the ultimate weapon to fight the crisis. A virus.
A machine could never gain sentience, but the illusion could be faked. By feeding the AI a script of anger and coding it to be mildly violent, people quickly started to fear that their beloved Androids had begun to understand.
A major recall for all Androids was quickly arranged. People were instructed to  destroy their Androids for any sign of violence or acting out of line. Parts of unalive flesh were melted down and recycled. People vowed to never let the mistake happen again and strict laws were enforced on creating Artificial Intelligence.
Yet there were a few seamless Androids that slipped under the radar. Humanoid enough to pass, and lucky enough to be abandoned or set free.
[Name] was made during the prime of Androids. He was a passion project by three kids with a dream to make advancements in humanity. He was an illegally produced Android, made from the finest materials and semi-sentient. The kids had worked on him for about 3 years, swapping from garage to garage. Back then, making an Android yourself wasn’t necessarily illegal, but these brilliant fellows had given [Name] a more advanced feelings program and tried to make him as humanlike as possible, which was illegal, due to a new law about AI being only used for work and chore purposes. Most Androids had a very limited capacity for feelings and weren’t so adaptable when put in a different field than what it was made for.
For roughly 2 years, [Name] had been wandering around Japan with no clear direction. As long as he wasn’t found out and destroyed, his goal was fulfilled. Until one evening, specific coordinates were sent to his system from one of the three masterminds that had built him. With nothing better to do, [Name] set out on a bizarre adventure.
In front of Kiku stands an odd child.
“Hello! Thank you for opening the door for me.” The robot in disguise smiles at Kiku.
“Uhm… Can I help you?” Kiku nervously asks, looking down at the young one and his stained, old clothes.
“Ah… Yes… I was wondering if I could find a place to rest for the night. Everyone else in this neighborhood so far has rejected me…” [Name] gives Kiku a sad look.
It was a bit of a lie. [Name] hadn’t knocked on any doors before Kiku’s, but they did need a safe place for the night, even though Android patrol wasn’t really going on anymore. The streets were wet and scary nonetheless at night.
“Oh…” Kiku looks back at the boy, feeling sad at the situation, but tries his best not to question him yet. “Please, come in. I’ll make you some tea.” He steps aside and lets [Name] inside.
[Name] takes his shoes and coat off, then sets his bag down. “Thank you so much! I have never been shown such kindness before. Please, let me show my gratitude to you. Is there anything you need done? Like, chores?” He follows Kiku to the kitchen.
“Ah, no, no, no need for that! Please, just sit down and rest for now. You must have been walking for a while. I insist.” Kiku urges and turns the electric kettle on.
“As you wish.” [Name] sits down and watches.
Luckily, [Name] could eat and drink a generous amount to appear more human. It would just go to waste, since his body didn’t have a need for any of it and it was a bit of a hassle sometimes to clean it up. His mouth led to a small empty pocket inside him that could be opened to discard the food and liquids.
“Which one do you prefer?” Kiku offers a plethora of different teas.
“Whichever you like the least. I’m not picky.” [Name] smiles.
“No, please pick whichever one you’d like.” Kiku places the tea packets in front of [Name] on the table.
“Ahh… Well… This one, I suppose.” [Name] points out to [Favorite Flavor].
“Excellent choice. Please wait a moment.” Kiku picks up the tea and takes it to the electric kettle, where the water was pretty near done boiling, then speaks again while preparing the tea, “What is your name?”
“[Name]. What’s yours?”
“Honda Kiku.”
Of course, [Name] had already recognized him when the door opened. As a personification, Kiku was an extremely popular and known figure, and [Name]’s database held information on most celebrities. Especially political figures.
“I think I have seen you in the newspaper before.” [Name] says as Kiku sets the warm cup of tea in front of him.
“It’s not unlikely. Please do not let it discourage you from making yourself at home, though.” Kiku sits down across [Name] with his own cup.
“You must be pretty popular…” [Name] blows on his tea before taking a cautious sip. His mouth, and many other parts, had some pain receptors, so drinking boiling tea wasn’t preferable. “Not that it matters. It was very kind of you to let me inside… It’s getting cold now that November is nearing.”
“It is, indeed. Forgive me if this is a bit direct or personal, but… Do you not have a home?” Kiku looks at [Name] with worry.
“I do not, no. I’ve been traveling around on my own for two years now, I think. My parents… They…” [Name] looks down at his cup and holds it tighter.
“A-ah! It’s okay, you do not have to talk about it, if you do not wish to. You can stay here for some time, so don’t worry.” Kiku quickly says, not wanting to upset the poor boy.
“Thank you, Honda-san. You really are kind…” [Name] smiles a little at him and drinks his tea.
“Let me show you around once you’ve drunk your tea. The guest bedroom hasn’t been used for a while, but I clean it regularly, so I hope it is to your standards.”
“It doesn’t take a lot to keep me happy! Thank you. The tea is delicious, too.” [Name] drinks the rest of it and stands up once Kiku is ready.
Kiku shows [Name] around his house. It wasn’t a major mansion, but it was a nice size and relatively easy to upkeep for one person.
“Your house is very nice, and clean too! I appreciate you so much for letting me stay here. You don’t know how much this means to me.” [Name] stands in the guest bedroom, looking around. His gaze drifts back to Kiku, “Please do tell me if there is anything at all I can do. I don’t mind working a little at all.” He says, bowing his head slightly in respect.
“Thank you for the compliments, [Name]-san… How sweet of you to say. For now, I insist you focus on resting and regaining your strength back.” Kiku bows his head back at the boy. “I will be in the office room I showed you,if you happen to need me. Please do not be afraid to come find me if you have something to ask or if you need anything. Rest well.” Kiku leaves the room.
“Thank you! Don’t work too hard!” [Name] quickly thanks while Kiku is still in earshot.
Maybe it was finally time to start settling down. Though with Kiku being such a known, protected and important figure, it could pose a big risk to being found out.

Penmanship headcanons for Kiku and Yao (Note I am constrained by my penmanship ability)
Honda Kiku 本田菊
Tumblr media
Very quick and angled like when you use a fountain pen
Wang Yao 王耀
Tumblr media
Yao's was a bit more difficult for me to do but I think in general his is a more neat although I couldn't really emulate it i think he have more of a flowing cursive like style that would still nonetheless be easier to read almost like a mix between clerical and running script

𝐌𝐄𝐓𝐀  𝐎𝐎𝟏.   𝐌𝐘𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐒.
Trigger  warnings  for  the  following  content:    death and abandonment.    If  you  need  more  things  tagged,    please  don't  hesitate  to  poke  me  !
Tumblr media
For  centuries,    stories  have  been  spread  both  by  word  of  mouth  and  by  script  of  Hisashi's  existence,    each  version  of  the  tale  diverging  from  the  truth  in  even  the  subtlest  of  ways.    Some  accounts  depict  them  as  a  kitsune - like  creature,    while  others  insist  that  they  are  a  god  in  human  skin,    existing  among  humans  since  the  beginning  of  time  itself.    None  of  these  records  could  be  further  from  the  truth  of  it  all.
Well  then,    are  you,    dear  reader,    ready  for  a  story?
It  is  a  tragedy,    one  that  people  have  been  trying  to  erase  from  history.
There  was  once  a  young  man  called  Akiyama  Norimune,    the  eldest  son  of  the  Akiyama  family,    who  lived  on  a  quaint  farm  with  his  mother,    father,    and  three  younger  siblings.    When  Norimune's  youngest  sibling,    Yasu,    was  only  four  years  old,    their  father,    Tsuyoshi,    left  during  the  night  in  a  last - ditch  effort  to  gather  more  food  for  his  family,    for  the  crops  were  not  prospering  as  well  as  they  could  have  been.    Unfortunately,    he  had  not  told  his  family  where  he  was  going,    but  did  not  make  it  back  home  on  account  of  a  demon  finding  him  and  making  him  its  next  meal.    Norimune  was  left  to  pick  up  where  Tsuyoshi  had  left  off,    all  the  while  comforting  his  siblings  and  grieving  mother  in  the  process.    Five  years  passed  in  this  way,    though  mysteriously,    the  Akiyama's  crops  grew  plentiful  in  the  years  after  Tsuyoshi's  sudden  disappearance.    All  was  well  and  good,    until  one  night,    Norimune  had  stepped  outside  to  clear  his  head  under  the  light  of  the  moon  and  the  chill  of  the  autumn  breeze.    He  had  not  let  any  of  his  family  know,    as  he  did  not  wish  to  bother  or  worry  anyone  with  his  issues.
He  had  forgotten  about  what  had  happened  to  his  father  until  the  demon  showed  up  in  front  of  him.
This  demon  was  not  your  typical  small  fry    —    the  one  that  had  appeared  in  front  of  Norimune  was  the  King  of  Demons  himself,    Kibutsuji  Muzan.    He  promised  the  eldest  son  a  better  life,    free  from  all  human  stresses  and  free  from  the  impending  clutches  of  death.    Norimune  agreed  to  this  without  thinking,    and  in  seconds,    was  howling  in  agony  as  his  veins  pumped  desperately,    taking  in  the  demon's  blood  and  allowing  it  to  meld  with  his  own.    In  a  matter  of  moments,  he  had  changed  from  a  man  to  a  monster,    caramel  curls  shifting  to  a  platinum  blond  and  sharp,    pink  horns  growing  from  his  forehead.    However,    when  he  turned  to  ask  what  he  should  do  next,    Muzan  was  gone,    leaving  him  alone  in  the  middle  of  the  farm's  rice  paddy.    As  he  contemplated  what  to  do,    Norimune  heard  a  light  and  airy  voice  behind  him,    fluttering  as  the  wings  of  a  butterfly  did,    and  when  he  turned  around,     his  mother,    Kiku,    stood  a  few  feet  away,     not  a  drop  of  fear  in  her  eyes  despite  seeing  just  what  her  son  had  become.
'    My  son  .....  Are  you  alright  ?    '
'    Mother,    do  not  come  closer.    '    Norimune  ordered,    tone  strangled  and  inhuman.    He  was  nearly  frightened  at  the  voice  that  came  out.    '    I  am  no  longer  your  son.     I  should  not  stay  here  for  too long.    '    Sharp  fangs  poked  past  his  lips  as  he  spoke,    clawed  fingers  curling  into  fists.    He  was  probably  hideous,    a  beast  that  should  not  be  regarded  with  such  softness,    but  that  did  not  matter  to  Kiku,    who  stepped  onto  the  paddy  and  wrapped  her  arms  around  her  son,    holding  him  close  despite  the  height  difference.    '    I  understand,    Norimune.    But  to  me,    you  are  still  my  son.   I  will  always  be  your  mother,    no  matter  what  you  become.    '    She  pulled  away  soon  after,    offering  Norimune  a  teary - eyed  smile.    '    What  will  you  do  now  ?    Are  you  going  to  leave  ?    '
'    I  don't  have  a  choice.    Even  now,    I  hunger.    What  would  happen  if  I  hurt  any  of  you  ?    I  could  never  forgive  myself.    '    Norimune  snarled,    placing  a  clawed  hand  over  his  mouth  in  an  attempt  to  hide  the  saliva  threatening  to  spill  down  his  chin.    His  gaze  turned  away  from  his  mother,    but  she  reached  up  and  pressed  a  kiss  to  his  son's  cheek.    '    I  understand.    I  cannot  stop  you.    I'll  figure  out  something  to  tell  your  siblings.    '
Wiping  a  tear  from  her  eye,    she  reached  into  the  sleeve  of  her  kimono  and  pressed  a  small  object  into  his  palm.    It  was  the  pendant  she  had  gotten  from  her  husband,    a  golden  chrysanthemum  connected  to  a  golden  chain. The fact she was giving him the last thing she had to remember Tsuyoshi by said enough about how much she cared.    '    I  love  you,    Norimune.    Please  be  careful.    '    Norimune  held  up  the  pendant,    watching  the  way  the  chrysanthemum  shimmered  under  the  light  of  the  moon  for  a  few  moments  before  placing  the  memento  inside  of  his  own  sleeve.    He  smiled  at  his  mother  one  last  time.    '    I  will.    '    And  with  a  solemn  nod,    the  former  human  turned  and  walked  away  from  the  house  that  built  him.

This additional content gives fans even more to look forward to as they dive deeper into the series' world.

For those new to the series, Call of the Night offers a fresh take on vampire mythology. The story follows Ko, an insomniac teenager who meets Nazuna, a playful vampire who introduces him to the hidden world that emerges after dark. Viz Media describes the premise: "Nanakusa is a vampire. That's okay with human Ko. He wants to be one too. But transformation doesn't come that easily..." The series distinguishes itself through its focus on late-night urban exploration, unconventional relationships, and the unique atmosphere that exists in the quiet hours after midnight. Rather than traditional horror elements, the show emphasizes the beauty and mystery of nighttime city life.
Source Material and Background
The original Call of the Night manga by Kotoyama (creator of Dagashi Kashi) ran in Weekly Shonen Sunday from August 2019 until its conclusion in January 2024. The complete story spans 20 volumes, with Shogakukan publishing the final volume in March 2024.

Why Season 2 Expectations Are High
The first season of Call of the Night premiered in July 2022 and quickly gained a dedicated following. HIDIVE not only streamed the series with subtitles but also produced an English dub that debuted in September 2022, showing strong international support for the franchise. The combination of the original creative team returning, the addition of compelling new characters, and Creepy Nuts providing another atmospheric opening theme creates high expectations for this second season. CHIAKI: So Sonia, given we are going to talk about those you interacted with, maybe we can start off with the first friend you made?
Tumblr media
Very well...
Tumblr media
I suppose if going in order, I suppose Kikue would be the first; we became pretty good friends in the first 4 months of Hope's Peak Academy...
CHIAKI: 4 months? What happen...?
Tumblr media
She... got kick out as she score the lowest in the exams; if you score lowest in that year you'll be kick out, no exception.
Tumblr media
I often spent time with Kikue and Kiriko around lunch time and usually ate with them, so I would often talk with her during that time.
Tumblr media
But it makes no sense at all, I know Kikue well enough and I don't think she would of flunked that easily, it's...it's not in her character at all!
CHIAKI: She didn't? Well, maybe you can talk more about her?
Tumblr media
Very well, I'll start from the beginning; I know quite a bit about Kikue and the time I spent with her.
...

Date: April 29th, 2010
Tumblr media
Wait so you join the student council?
Tumblr media
Well more like quite a few people wanted me to join so I figure why not.
Tumblr media
But I'm more surprise you didn't want to join Sonia, given your a princess and all.
Tumblr media
Ah well, I think I rather stay out of anything related to the student council; I remember quite a few students voted for me and even my teacher wanted me to join but I choose to stay out.
Tumblr media
I'm sure those like you and Soshun could do a good job, besides I do rather want to relax.
Tumblr media
Well gee, thanks a bunch! I'll be sure to help as much as I can?
Tumblr media
man... you 2 are sure popular but I can't say I blame them, usually people go for pretty people anyway.
Tumblr media
Kikue, don't say that about yourself, I'm sure there must of been people that voted for you.
Tumblr media
Exactly and I think if you cut your hair, I think people might think differently.
Tumblr media
Maybe but I'm not really good with social interactions much. I prefer to stay out of the spotlight and besides I am busy with other things like meeting my editor to discussing new books.
Tumblr media
Oh... you have an editor?
Tumblr media
Yeah I do, he often helps me with what can be change in stories and his criticism are pretty on point and his family is pretty nice too. Even my parents are okay with him as well.
Tumblr media
Right, your one of those official authors; I suppose having an editor does make sense.
Tumblr media
And it's good that your parents seem to get along with him.
Tumblr media
Which speaking of, how are your parents towards you writing novels like these?
Tumblr media
Well at first they were okay with it and when it was discover I got a talent in writing they decided to help me out; even helping me set up a bank account for any money I get from my books. While my parents are fine, my extended relatives can be quite annoying - especially my younger cousins.
Tumblr media
Oh dear... how bad is it?
Tumblr media
Well when you got some aunts and uncles trying to get your money and then you have your cousins rushing in and destroying your scripts that you've been working on for months and you have to re-write them all over again.
Tumblr media
And then when you decided to add a lock to your door and your relatives start to whine about you locking the door, I had to clarify that if they control their brats and tell them to stop going into my room and ripping up my work that I've done for months and should stop bugging us because I got money from my writing.
Tumblr media
Wow that must be annoying to deal with, sorry about that.
Tumblr media
It's fine, besides they don't usually visit unless it's for the holidays; so it's not all that common and my parents were okay with my locking the door, besides they understand that I need to do writing and are okay with it.
Tumblr media
I see well that's good that your parents are quite understanding from the sounds of it.

I know it's a little lost in the shuffle of the Live Action (which I'm watching rn) but we did get a new batch of dub episodes! Mostly the Akazaya v. Kaido and Ice Oni Live Floor stuff. Big moments for Kiku's story but not big lines for her.
I do like we got one nice little hoped for change. That tweaked flashback of them bickering, when they argue about the best parts of the hotpot, Izo's line is something like "I can't believe my own flesh and blood has taken leave of her senses..." which is better than that errant "brother" that bugged me a little when the main narrative is tactful about dodging that. Feel like the dub script really cemented the interpretation of Ice Oni, Kiku's arm, and Queen hammering the "game" motif.

Irezumi (1966)
"See how fascinating this painting is? A beauty trampling the corpses of countless men at her feet, feasting on their flesh and blood to grow and prosper. Tell me... don't you think she resembles you?"
#irezumi#japanese cinema#1966#yasuzô masumura#jun'ichirô tanizaki#kaneto shindô#ayako wakao#akio hasegawa#gaku yamamoto#kei satô#fujio suga#reiko fujiwara#asao uchida#kikue môri#hikaru hayashi#absolutely beautiful film. full of deep‚ rich colours and vibrant detail‚ a masterful composition on a morbid subject#I've loved the other Masumura films I've seen‚ and appreciate his aesthetic focus and eye for detail but this is the first of his colour#works I've seen and it's a whole new level. near perfect in pure visual terms; plotting and script‚ while suitably dramatic#and tragic‚ aren't quite as perfect. centres on a terrific performance from Wakao as a woman transformed from an impulsive and#irresponsible but romantic girl into a cold‚ near monstrous vision of vengeful hatred. arguably Masumura is asking the viewer to look at#Wakao's distorted personality by the end of the film as somewhat grotesque or at least as tragic but i gotta say that in 2023 it's hard not#to feel a frisson of 'good for her' as she engineers the bloody deaths of every man who ever wronged her#the character could perhaps have used a little more nuance and I'd also have liked to have seen more made of the parallels in trading flesh#(both figuratively as sex work and literally as canvas for tattooists) but these are relatively minor gripes. a kind of updated fairy tale#with a moralist slant‚ but a deeply beautiful one. rain swept and blood drenched‚ deep shadows and pale skin‚ flashing blades and#rich fabric folds. sumptuous.

and Finally an actor au. (Sorry for spamming the Ask box!)
YES! No, no, don’t be sorry, I asked you to. Okay, this AU is one I’m so excited about.
I think this actor AU could be very, very fun if they were acting in Hetalia as a live-action show like I’ve seen @cereal-miilk do. But that might just be why they were all together. This is just how I would do them as actors in general.
Here’s my ;) cast:
Feliciano Vargas: Feli does exclusively indie horror/thriller productions as the villian. He has played some incredibly disturbing roles. His ability to convey a truly terrifying (many times inhuman) antagonist has landed him a cult following, tho he refuses to do any projects that would win him real fame, as he prefers the freedom of indie projects to convey truly dark themes. The people who have seen his acting are startled to find he’s a delightful and bubbly person outside of his roles.
Lovino Vargas: Also plays only villains, but he plays high-class types of villains. He plays opposite to action stars. He does a lot of popular movies. He’s great at accent work. His career is much more well known than his brother’s, although the people who know them both do say Feliciano is better for the sheer inhumanness of his performances... And there is a bit of mixup sometimes between them.
Romulus Vargas: Played a lot of famous roles of sexy action heros. Now does mostly cameos that reference himself. (Think Harrison Ford, but if he leaned heavily into his own hype.) Is very interested in sons careers: he’d like for Feliciano to take any role in any other type of movie. He thinks that Lovino should try playing a hero.
Wang Yao: The most famous actor in this lineup, especially in Asia (tho Romulus is more popular in America, Yao is more popular by the numbers). He has starred in a number of dramas. He has a lot more range to his acting than Romulus does. He refuses to tell people how old he is, but also is very insistent that he has more experience than anyone else he works with, and knows better. He has won so many awards and so much critical acclaim. The moves he makes are art.
Honda Kiku: He works mostly in j-dramas. He has a very private life outside of tv shows, and he doesn’t really have much interest in acting in movies.
Arthur Kirkland: Arthur Kirkland exclusively does two things: voice overs for documentaries, and period dramas. He works for the BBC, and he’s content with these two things, and that’s it.
Francis Bonnefoy: Does the cheesiest hallmark type rom-coms. He adores the rom-com. His goal in life is to start in as many rom-coms as possible. He loves over-acting. He doesn’t really do subtlety.
Antonio Fernandez Carriedo: He’s an actor that either plays action roles or like wholesome family type roles and nothing in between. He definitely has a lot of buzz presswise that’s stuff like “got into a bar fight” or “crashed a convertible.” But he’s still nice to his fans.
Ivan Braginski: Is a character actor who plays henchmen or the muscle for any show, but is really a very sweet guy who’s knitting backstage.
Matthew Williams: Does mostly comedies when he does movies. When he’s in TV shows he tends to be a one-off character actor which is something like “a guy who lives in the woods.”
Alfred F. Jones: He started off as Matthew’s stuntman, but when MAtthew found him reading off Matthew lines, he decided that Alfred was good enough to also be an actor and started securing roles for him. Alfred has a lot of range in acting. He does his own stunts. His dream is to play a superhero.
Ludwig Beilschmidt: Like a b-list actor, he tends to do only terrible movies you would find on like the sci-fi channel. Tho his being so handsome has won him a bit of a following, and there are serval memes going about regarding this hot actor.
Gilbert Beilschmidt: Was a popular vlogger before anyone cast him, and his casting was a surprise to people. Not considered a “real” actor. He is good at acting, and he works hard to be taken seriously, especially with his online image.
Extra Stuff
Okay so these are just my ideas for if they did do a live-action version of Hetalia where they all worked together.
Feliciano & Lovino working together and they have some tension that bleeds over into their acting (along with their villian energy that they have to work to tone down):
Feliciano: you need to stop telling the people I’m flirting with that I'm a slut. Lovino: you need to not pretend to be me and then say I do cocaine in interviews. Ludwig: .... What? You didn't actually do that did you? Feliciano: UGH ONE TIME!
Feliciano *brushing a strand of hair from his face, flirting, kinda softly*: I'm not that annoying in real life, you know-- Lovino *from the background*: BEG TO DIFFER!!!!
Also like, Matthew being like “you were my stuntman, then I started your career. So like, I kinda own your career?” And then he’s dedicated to just annoying Alfred-- peak sibling energy.
Matthew: "Alfred wants to play his younger self too." or “Should Canada just murder America in this episode, ‘cause--” Alfred: "Working with you is a nightmare"
The cast is surprised by the sheer volume that Matt can yell "ALFRED" across the set bc he's always whispering in character. (To which Alfred will shout back just as loud.)
Francis & Arthur are married outside of their roles, and they have to tone down being sweet and married in the show, bc they know they’re supposed to be fighting. But also:
Arthur *watching Francis play France*: You’re never like that with me at home." Francis You want me to be... Annoying? At home?
Romulus roped Yao into doing this project, and that’s the only reason such a  talented and famous actor is in the show:
The rumor mill is like "are famous actors Romulus and Yao dating???!!" Based on this stupid show, and Yao sends Romulus that headline like "every day I work on this project my life is measurably worse and it's your fault."
Alfred is also in awe of Romulus’ action roles, and he’s like “wow can you sign my face??”
Other random details I would include:
Gilbird isn't part of the script Gilbert just loves his bird that much and asked if he could have him.
Lovino and Feliciano are also trying to make a crossover project where they’re two different types of villians having it out: it’s a movie.
I think it would be funny if Ludwig was actually American with German parents, and Alfred is actually Canadian like Matthew but can do an American so well.
Everyone on this set is having so much fun.

Week 2.2: Photography, Type, and Alphabet
Photography
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I spent a day outside of work photographing Hamish and a lot of his personal work in order to build up a background on irezumi tattooing and practice
I also wanted to test whether this could be an option of alternate imagery in my publication rather than the straight illustration.
Although I wanted to illustrate. I also tried out photographing other artists and their work for the publication imagery to see if it could be a better fit. These images are of Hamish Mclauchlan, the tattoo artist I work under. He specialises in largescale Irezumi pieces and is widely recognised in the tattooing world.
Ultimately I decided against using an artists face or their professional work in my publication. This is because I wanted the focus to be on the concept of irezumi itself, without attaching a specific person and their established style of tattooing to it.
I used my own illustrations because although they are all produced by one person, they are an ambiguous interpretation of a massive collection of irezumi artwork. The reader should be able to envision their own world of irezumi from the publication without bias.
Typography
I know I want my display type and potentially bodycopy to follow a loose, script like/ handrawn, personable feel. Something inky and imperfect would be excellent for a title font as I want it to match the illustrations in this illustrative and painted style. Below are some rough options that I was drawn towards for the minimal type that I plan to have in this picture book like publication.
Tumblr media
Alphabet for Irezumi
Since I want my picture book to follow this ABC structure I started brainstorming ideas for each letter of the alphabet. I thought this would be a way to link the western world to this popular Japanese tattoo style that has been made popular worldwide. Western clients are becoming more and more common and this is likely who my picture book will be aimed towards as they are more likely to have a lack of understanding of the cultural and historical symbolism of the irezumi style rather than local Japanese people.
The only thing to take into consideration is the fact that in japan a few letters in the english alphabet do not exist so I will have to comment on this at some point in my book as some letters such as q and x. Below is my current list that I am constantly returning to in order to structure my illustrative process moving forward.
Ape, Akkorokamui (octopus)
Bones, Baku (devoured of dreams), Blossum, Botan (peony)
Cat, Crab, Crane, Crysanthumum
Daruma
Enkō (kappa of shikoku), enenra (yokai of smoke)
Frog, Fujin, Foo dog
Geisha, Golden boy, Genbu (black tortoise)
Hannya, Hou-oo (pheonix), Hebi (snake), Heikegani (crab)
Irezumi, ikuchi (yokai of the sea, serpent)
Jorogumo (spider woman), Jishin-namazu (giant catfish that causes natural disasters)
Koi, Kitsune, Kappa, Kirin, koinobori, Kiku (Chrysanthemum), Kaeru (frog)
Lotus (Hasu)
Masks, monkey, Maneki Neku (cat)
Nue (chimeria), Namakubi (severed head), Namazu (catfish), Noppera-bō (faceless ghost)
Oni
Pheonix, Peony
Q
Ryu, Raijin
Serpent, Sakura, Samurai

Would the axis/allies be good at standup comedy:
Matthew: I think Matt is a very funny guy, his type of humor is usually sarcasm and observational comedy so he can relate to his audience a lot. However, he has trouble woth public speaking and tends to stutter when he’s in fromt of crowds. Would he be good at the comedy part? Totally. Just...not too great in front of people 8/10
Yao: Yao would kill it!! He has centuries and centuries worth of funny stories to tell and hey, Yao is a master at exaggerating things lmao. He’s funny and great with people!!! He can relate to an older audience more for sure :) he complains about achy joints or young people driving too fast, all kinds of ‘old people’ humor, which would make him very likable!!! 10/10 I’d pay to hear him up on stage lmao
Arthur: Art is funny without even trying really. He’s sarcastic and blunt, which makes him even funnier. His comedy bits are usually observational humor based but there’s nothing wrong with that. He also has a lot of stories about traveling cause Brits are always a mess when traveling, he’s no different!! He always takes a minute to warm up onstage but once people start laughing, he feels more at ease! 9/10
Ivan: I don’t really even see Ivan getting up on stage lmao but if he did, it would have to be in front of small audiences. Ivan is a very blunt guy who also tells jokes about neighboring countries cause that’s funny to him. He doesn’t expect people to laugh and he’ll kinda hurry through his routine 5/10
Kiku: Kiku would NOT enjoy being on stage. He is a fan of comedy and watches a lot of comedians when he hangs with Alfred but he wouldn’t do it himself. Cant even give him a score really cause he...just wouldn’t do it -/10
Ludwig: We’ll get Lud out of the way too, I don’t think he would go up on stage either 😅 he is a funny guy!!! He really is!! He’s great at telling jokes and goofing around!!!! But he just wouldn’t do that for strangers, that’s very stressful. This dude doesn’t do press conferences unless he has a script because he’s so afraid of making a fool of himself!! He would never do stand up lmao. Gilbert is enough of a fool for the two of them -/10 cant really give him a fair score either cause he wouldn’t even step foot on the stage
Francis: Ok...we all knew what this was gonna be. Fran is made for the stage. He’s a total drama queen and is great at making things a bigger deal than they need to be :) he has such a way with words too which just makes it funnier cause here we have a very eloquent talker just...roasting the shit out of the English. He has other jokes than picking on the English but he’s been doing it for centuries, he’s mastered the art of annoying British people :) he also tells a lot of stories of how he’s gotten in trouble like falling off the Eiffel Tower, dumping wine in the river, calling the king a weiner, he’s done so much shit...and he can tell you all about it in a way that’ll never make it to the public tv stations cause it’s so indecent 8/10
Gilbert: Like Fran, Gil is meant for the stage. He is funny without even trying and he’s LOUD! He doesn’t even really plan before getting on stage he just gets up there and tells stories and makes fun of the audience! Yup, he picks people out of the audience to pick on sometimes! Not in a mean way of course it’ll be stuff like ‘you!! Yeah you in the orange! You look like my dad! And boy oh boy do I have a story about my dad-‘ he also goes off on tangents in the middle of a joke too so you’ll get like three jokes in one! His stories always end in a way you never expect too so it’s like a punch in the balls every time 10/10
Alfred: Al is a total ham, he would love to give stand up a try!! But the problem is, he always laughs before he can get the joke out lmao. He has a very contagious laugh!! So that helps! Cause the audience will start laughing too :) he has all sorts of crazy stories cause he is the embodiment of ‘florida man’!! He’s seen it all. He’s been to Walmart at 3am. He’s driven on dirt roads during constriction. He’s seen southerners try to navigate .005 inches of snow on the road. He’s seen it and he has a way of telling it 7/10
Feliciano: Feli is a funny guy but he would have trouble on stage just cause he’d get distracted by all of the people out there! He would also totally laugh at his own jokes and get side tracked. He’s funnier when his jokes aren’t planned, the stand up format probably wouldn’t do him justice 4/10 If you got him on a live podcast, his funny side would really shine through! :)
Lovino: Ok I can actually compare him to a comedian I love omg Sebastian Maniscalco!! He has such Lovi vibes, I really think Lovi would bring up a lot of the same stuff this guy does. He’ll complain about people, how they dress, how they act, just...people. And he moves around a lot, especially his hands. Cause he’s...italian. 10/10

Note
Hi many are complaining that the battles like Kiku/Kanjurou, sulong minks/pirates,Jack/minks sulong Dogstorm and Catviper/Jack are ofscreened! what do you think? Does it bother you?
it’s like- i understand where the complaints come from, but it doesn’t really bug me personally. given the sheer number of characters present and the number of fights happening, showing them all blow for blow just isn’t really feasible without dragging the story to a stop. we already have so many characters in play that every chapter is bouncing between like ten different focuses just to keep up with them all. additionally, the idea of scripting all those fights to make them interesting and unique is a lot of ask of oda as a writer, especially given the ones involving many combatants like the minks.
so i understand the desire to see those fights on screen, and in a world where one piece isn’t written and drawn by one man with human restraints on his time and health i’d love to see them, but i’m not upset about the fact that we can’t.
also, i bet we’ll get a bunch of them expanded on as anime filler anyways.
