Intro: So this one is for the lovely @aphfangirl with the prompt: “It’s okay.  You don’t have to love me.” and the colour grey.
In my defense I thought this one was going to be a lot different than what it came out to be.  But as I was thinking about this drabble I had this distinct picture of the reader in a wedding dress, crying, and Jim coming in wearing a grey suit.  So it’s what I wrote.   I hope its okay!
Pairing: Jim x reader
Word Count: 812
-Enjoy!-
With shaking hands you slid the white fabric onto your body.
“Hey, can we talk?”
Smoothing the hand over the dress, you fisted your hands in the lacey fabric.
“You know I never want to hurt you, right?.”
You stuffed the heel of your hands into your eyes, willing away the impending tears.
“I just, I don’t think I can do it.”
Dragging your fingers through your hair, your breath caught in your chest.
“Do what?”
Tears flowed now, tracking down your cheeks and dripping onto your dress.
“Marry you.”
Sliding to the floor, you buried your face in your hands, your dress billowing out around you and you leaned back against the wall.
“I’m sorry.  It’s not that I don’t care about you, it’s just…”
“Just that you don’t love me.”
“I’m sorry.”
You heard the swish of the door opening, and you tried to calm your shaking limbs.
“It’s okay.  You don’t have to love me.”
A flash of a grey suit, blonde hair, and blue eyes caught your attention and you looked up.
“Jim.” You squeaked.
“You don’t have to love me.”
“Hey.” A soft voice.
“You don’t have to.”
You looked up at Jim with watery eyes, his silhouette nearing you.
“Love me.”
A finger under your chin, blue eyes near centimeters from yours, snapping you out of your memory.
“Hey.” Jim repeated from his squatted position in front of you.
“It’s supposed to be my wedding day today.” You let out a watery laugh.
“I know, Y/N, I’m sorry.” He whispered, tucking a piece of your hair behind your ear.
“I-I couldn’t get my dress done up, will you help me?” You asked, moving to get up.
Jim’s hand on your shoulder stopped you and he knelt down in front of you, indicating for you to lean forward and he slipped his hands around you.  In a quick movement, he zipped up the zipper on the back of your dress, as you stared at the fabric of suit.
“What’s with the fancy getup?” You mused, smoothing your shaking hands down his suit front as he pulled back.
“I should be asking you the same thing,” He pulled at the fabric of your dress with a soft smile before answering your question, “I have a meeting later with Starfleet Officials.” He sat down now, cross-legged, in front of you.
“You should be getting ready for that, shouldn’t you?”
“I just wanted to check up on you.” He reached forward and thumbed at your cheek.
You tried to get the words, ‘I’m fine’, past your lips, but the lump in your throat wouldn’t allow it.
“That damn idiot, doesn’t know what he lost.” Jim looked sad as he moved his hand to your shoulder.
A minute nod was all could manage before you lost all composure again.  You leaned forward and stuffed your face into Jim’s shoulder, and quickly his arms came around you, pulling you into his lap, cradling you in his arms.
“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry, Y/N.” Jim soothed, holding your head to his chest.
“I just feel so stupid-”
“Don’t say that.” You tilted your head up and met Jim’s bright blue eyes as he admonished you, “Don’t say that, this is all him.  All his fault.  You didn’t do a damn thing wrong.  He was just a lying, cheating asshole.”
You nodded up at Jim, another tear sneaking down your face, and Jim brushed it away with his thumb, “What’d I do to deserve you, Jim?”
A heavy tension set in the air and you watched Jim, his eyes not leaving yours, his mouth opening and closing gently.
“C'mon.  Enough moping.” Jim said decidedly and began to tip you out of his lap.
“Wha-?  Jim?” You protested but he interrupted you as you stood.
“Let’s go somewhere.  A cabin in the woods, a beach by the ocean, a road trip that lasts for a week, I don’t know.  Let’s go somewhere.” Jim had stepped away from you and was waving his arms, a very serious look on his face.
“What are you talking about?”
“That idiot doesn’t deserve a second thought, let alone you crying over him and wearing that beautiful dress.  So let’s go somewhere.  Let’s make this a happy day.”
“Don’t you have a meeting-”
“Screw the meeting.”
You were absolutely speechless.  Here you were, in your wedding dress, on your supposed-to-be wedding day, bawling your eyes out, standing in front of a man that you had feelings for forever, a spontaneous trip proposal hanging in the air.  What were you supposed to do?
“Yes.” The word left your lips without you telling it to.
Jim’s head snapped up and the corner of his mouth turned upwards.
“Yes.  Let’s go.  Somewhere, anywhere!” You were giddy now, and approached Jim, who looked at you like you were crazy.
“Alright.” Jim smiled now and took your hand.
“Let’s go.”
-Thanks for reading!  I hope you liked it!-
